Set five years to the day after the Grand Finale of Carmilla the Series, The Carmilla Movie covers the realities of trying to move on with normal life after Carmilla's three centuries of evil and the rather traumatic final battle of the series. When Carmilla's spark of life begins to flicker, causing her to "re-vamp" for short periods of time, Laura calls her old gang back together to visit to Elle's manor home in Styria and unravel the mystery.

Contains examples of:
- Babies Ever After: The end credits show the stars with a baby. The baby is a producer's child and the photos weren't intended as official in-character pictures, but the writers have said they can be canon or not as fans desire.
- Back from the Dead: At the end, Mattie is back. For real this time.
- Black Dude Dies First: Gender-inverted and invoked by Mel when she yells at Kirsch for wandering away from the group in a haunted house, but averted. In fact, nobody dies but the people who were already dead.
- Broken Masquerade: Implied throughout the movie and confirmed at the end through Laura's news reports. That said, it's only natural it would have reached this point after the events of season 3 and the obvious fallout of the aftermath.
- Big Bad: Elle Sheridan has been manipulating everyone the whole time in order to steal Carmilla's spark.
- Cast Full of Gay: Even more so than usual, since most of the ghost girls are Carmilla's exes. (And the one who isn't is into Mel instead.)
- Dance of Romance: The ghost girls decide to throw a ball before moving on to the afterlife or so they think. Carmilla and Laura dance, and so do Mel and Charlotte Bronte.
- Decomposite Character: Elle is the original Victorian Laura from Carmilla, while Laura has some aspects of that character updated for the modern day.
- Evil Wears Black: There are two, the nightmare/memory version of Carmilla and a veiled figure who turns out to be Elle.
- Fate Worse than Death: Being sacrificed to Lophii traps your spirit in a horrible dimension composed of your worst memories.
- Happy Ending Override: Carmilla returns to being a vampire at the end, losing her regained humanity. However, in The Stinger Laura has also found a drinkable fountain of youth, so it's possible they will avoid the usual Mayfly–December Romance issues.
- Haunted House: Elle's manor home in Styria is full of ghosts accidentally summoned by Carmilla trying to come to terms with her past.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Not fatal, but Carmilla gives up her humanity willingly, so that the girls she lured to be sacrifices can be free from the Lophii hell dimension.
- Last Kiss: Mel and Charlotte, before the ghost girls finally move on. Also counts as a Last Request.
- Manipulative Bastard: Turns out Elle orchestrated the entire plot once Carmilla accidentally summoned the ghost girls. She lied to the other ghosts, telling them that a spell which would give her Carmilla's life at the cost of sending them back to the Lophii hell dimension would actually free them.
- Meaningful Echo: During the ball, Mel asks Charlotte if she wants to dance, and Charlotte says "Obviously." Right before Charlotte goes on to the afterlife, she asks if Mel wants to kiss her, and Mel says the same thing.
- Psychic Dreams for Everyone: Laura starts having dreams of Elle's memories. Later it turns out Elle has been sending them on purpose, trying to warn her away, as in her opinion Carmilla is still a monster.
- Race Lift: The Bronte sisters are played by Ojibwe Cara Gee and East Asian Grace Lynn Kung.
- Reformed, but Rejected: Carmilla's many victims over the years don't readily accept she's changed or that she cares. However, they figure she doesn't need to have changed; she just needs to help them with the spell, and therefore they are perfectly willing to be friendly. Except Elle.
- Sequel Hook: There's one at the end that the Eldritch Abomination of the series are going to make trouble again.
- Time Skip: About five years out from the Silas Incident.
- Vegetarian Vampire: A possibility now that LaFontaine and Perry have apparently worked out a vegan blood substitute, called Hemo-Soy, during the Time Skip.
- Whole-Plot Reference: Averted. It's based heavily on the original Carmilla tale but goes in a different direction.
- Woman Scorned: Elle, in a big way. To be fair, finding out your girlfriend was a vampire all along and that subsequently leading to your painful death and imprisonment in a hell dimension is a pretty understandable reason to be put out.
