Trying to juggle vicious internal politics, envious neighbors, foreign threats, and its own colonial ambitions, combined with the author's knowledge of history and geopolitics, create a believable alternate history that will educate as well as entertain.

It has popped up here and their from time to time in history, from Ancient Egypt to Roanoke, but no infestation has grown so large, or so quickly, and by 1838, just about every nation in the Western World has been affected in some way, with no sign of it slowing down. You must lead your nation through the Apocalypse, and work to rebuild civilization after the Apocalypse subsides, while at the same time face defending yourself from opportunistic nations.
