Khilari

  • This guy/girl has written a handful of fics for Toy Story. Simply put, they all read like scenes from the movies.

Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

Caught on Film by Qoheleth

  • Recommended by Blue Hospitality, Dogman 15 and Ack Sed
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Just whose cameras were those that the toys used to blind the Prospector? And what happened when that family developed their film? Follows a Jessie doll and a young man named Jake and their time together.
  • Comments: Incredibly interesting, well-written story that explores the consequences of humans discovering the secret of toy animation. Has a good bit of length to it, and looks like it's picking up pace. Highly recommended.
    • This really fleshes out what it'd be like for animate toys; I've hit 16 chapters and I'm desperate to read more. Seconded. - Ack Sed
    • Thirded by gingersnap - This is a gem of a fic. No actual Toy Story characters (save Stinky Pete) but a great examination of the whole concept of "alive toys".

New Home, New Life by Dragon Star Empress

  • Recommended by Ryan Lohner
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis: It's time for Bonnie to go to college, and Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye are sold to none other than the granddaughter of Jessie's owner Emily. That night, circumstances force them to reveal to her that they're alive, leading to everyone living together and the younger Emily trying to get the whole family back together.
  • Comments: The story is a hard sell early on due to some very uncomfortable touching on adult subjects like rape, but after the initial reveal that the toys are alive it settles down nicely and becomes quite moving when we learn what really led to Jessie being put in that donation box. Plus, some fun examination of the mythology of living toys when Emily learns the whole story and notes some inconsistencies.

Breakable by khilari

  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Andy is housesitting for Bonnie's family over Christmas. When he trips and hits his head with no one around but his toys Woody goes to help him. But what can toys really do?
  • Comments: This story shows how the toys are willing to help Andy, even to the point of bending the rules. The author captivates the bond between Andy and his beloved toys.
    • Seconded by Digi Flame. Short and sweet. It's hard not to get pulled into the worry that the toys feel. It might as well be canon it captures that sort of spirit of it so well.
  • alternate link here.
    • Thirded by Gingersnap. If you like your Toy Story fic with a good helping of Woody/Andy devotion, then this is just the kind of thing you've been searching for.

Take The Long Way Home by Cody The Maverick

  • Recommended by Ka Blamoid 4 Life
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: After the events of the movie, Lotso manages to get himself off of the truck, but, by mistake, ends up in the hands of another child. But not just any child. This story follows his journey as he discovers that there just might be some love left in the cracks within his heart of stone.
  • Comments: As with any story starring Lotso, expect quite a bit of angst. There is also some prime tear jerker near the end.
    • The movie didn't make me cry. This fanfiction did.

Just This Once, also by khilari

  • Recommended by Fiwen9430
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Andy figures out who wrote him the note at the end of the 3rd movie, and asks if he can borrow Woody from Bonnie for one day.
  • Comments: To me, this felt so real, like a scene from the movie. The relationship between Andy and Woody is so well captured, and it made me cry from about halfway through. The author's other gen fics are also worth looking through.
    • Seconded by gingersnap. Still, I think, the best Toy Story fic I've ever read, despite its shortness. Very Original Flavour, and the relationship between Andy and Woody is simply magnificent.

Toy Size by Blackwolf-20

  • Recommended by Twoie 92
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: When Andy tinkers with a mysterious new toy, it shrinks him down. Now Woody and the gang must decide how far to expose themselves while helping their human get back to normal.
  • Comments: This Troper was surprised that this story wasn't on here already. Despite what it sounds like, it's brilliant.

Strange Things (Are Happening) by DontMindMeNow

  • Recommended by Pren
  • Status: Completed (on September 2023)
  • Synopsis: Bonnie is a huge fan of Frozen (2013), so naturally her parents get her an Elsa toy for her birthday. The gang is eager to welcome their new addition, but there's just one problem: just like Buzz when he was first opened, Elsa thinks she's the real thing.
  • Comments: Everyone's perfectly in character, and there's plenty of fun ideas of how this setup can be used; this isn't a story that really relies on big twists so you can easily imagine how things will turn out.

The Road of Life by Impressionsguy

  • Recommended by N8han11
  • Status: Dormant
  • Pairings: Woody/Bo, Buzz/Jessie
  • Synopsis: Thirteen years after the events of Toy Story 4, Bonnie has left for university and arranged for Andy's toys to be delivered to his children. But when an accident causes the toys to get lost, a surprise reunion with Woody, Bo and a toy repairman who knows the toys' secret may be their only way of getting home.
  • Comments: While it hasn't gotten too far, the interactions between all of Andy's toys are well-written and both heartfelt and funny, with Woody/Bo being particularly fun to watch. Eddy the toy repairman is an interesting new character in that he fully knows the toys are alive, providing some interesting interactions with Woody and Bo so far.

Stories focused on the romantic relationships between the cast.

Reunited byD.M. Robb

  • Recommended by Autumn
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairings: Bo/Woody
  • Synopsis: Woody and Bo finally have the chance to see each other again. The main problem is that Bo may have found someone who needs her more. Woody X Bo. Some Jessie X Buzz.
  • Comments: This story reads like a continuation of the third film and really develops Bo Peep’s character. It also has a different twist from your standard Woody-and-Bo-meet-again fic and contains some truly touching moments.

The Intervening Years by BOC42

  • Recommended by Fambera
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairings: Woody/Bo
  • Synopsis: For toys, the friendships and relationships forged over many tender years are held in the small, sticky hands of children. Woody and Bo have learned their lesson well: don't waste the intervening years. Woody x Bo, some Buzz x Jessie.
  • Comments: Hands down, the best Woody/Bo story out there.

Magic Happens by Safi Kittykat

  • Recommended by Ka Blamoid 4 Life
  • Status: Dead
  • Pairing(s): Woody/Dolly
  • Synopsis: Set after the events of Toy Story 3, Andy's toys are enjoying their new life with Bonnie and her toys...but Woody still misses Bo Peep. During one of Bonnie's playtimes, Bonnie "kisses" Woody and Dolly together, and Woody feels like he's cheated on Bo. But a chain of events unfolds that brings Woody and Dolly closer together.
  • Comments: Very sweet, touching and well-written. There's some great characterization here, especially for Woody (his pain over losing Bo is very well portrayed) and Dolly (without spoiling anything, she is given a bit of backstory).
    • Kriegsmesser: Short, but very good. It doesn't drag on needlessly.

The New Normal by Kayt

  • Recommended by lettergirlmj
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Buzz/Woody
  • Synopsis: Takes place after the events of Toy Story 3, Bonnie decides that Woody and Buzz were made for each other, and should never be apart. In time, they come to accept it too.
  • Comments: Simple, sweet, and well-written. This one-shot that gives an interesting take on how Buzz and Woody could convincingly get together. And Bonnie is adorable, as always. There are also a few cute moments between some of the other characters as well.

Mr and Mrs. Nesbit by jessieheart (WARNING: There is some explicit toy sex in parts 3 & 4)

  • Recommended by lettergirlmj
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Woody/Buzz
  • Synopsis: Sheriff Woody has been secretly meeting Mrs. Nesbit for tea once or twice a week. One day they take the play-acting a little too far.
  • Comments: I. I don't even know what to say about this fic. It's amazing. The characterization is spot-on. One reviewer described it as "charming and moving and, shockingly, kind of sexy." I don't really think I can describe it better.

Under the Table and Dreaming by snooter (WARNING: Slight sexual business at the end of part one, and explicit sex in part two. Rated NC-17, so use caution)

  • Recommended by zydratebrat13 and Igknighted
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Andy/Sid
  • Synopsis: Andy met Sid when he was four years old, and while some things change, a lot of things stay the same.
  • Comments: This is really so well written. The dynamic between the boys is believable, the characterization is wonderful, and the story manages to never get too sappy or over-dramatic while managing to be a great read. It might even make you have flashbacks, to playing games with your toys and neighbors, feeling the pangs of a first crush, and remembering your first real kiss.
    • Seconded. I've read this a few times already and I can't get over how realistic it is. I can't say anything else because I'd just be repeating what's written in the comments. - slashhearts
    • Also second. Definitely one of the better coming of age stories in the Toy Story fandom. It handles their lives with the kind of slice of life realism that clenches your heart the same way the movies did, and along the way you learn not just about the hardships of devoting yourself to another person, but life in general. More amazing is how the author brings in a slew of character, OCs and Canon alike, that each stand up as distinctive individuals that manage to make you care about each and every one.
  • Be sure to read the sequels To the Dogs or Whoever (Complete) set three years after "Under the Table" (also rated NC-17) and The Second Most Important Person in the World (Complete) Which bravely follows Andy and Sid through the next forty years of their life and ends in a rather heart moving way. (Rated R)
    • An extra short that continues immediately after the events of the first is now up.

Toy Story 4: Andy's Freshman Year of College by Tremendosaue (Warning: Sexual humor)

  • Recommended by Chabal 2

  • Synopsis: Andy keeps Woody and Buzz through college, then brings a girl to his room...

Never Get Over Losing You by Crimsongypsy

  • Recommended by zoeymoe
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Woody/Bo and slight Buzz/Jessie
  • Synopsis: Andy's toys are adjusting well at Bonnie's house. However, Woody feels as if someone is missing.
  • Comments: The story has a wonderful Heartwarming Moment.

Reading by dogangelsrule.

  • Recommended by Pichu
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing: Woody/Jessie with slight Woody/Buzz.
  • Synopsis: Woody spends too much time reading. One-shot. Major WoodyxJessie. Hinted BuzzxWoody.
  • Comments: It's a short, cute little fluff fic that reaches the mild side of sickeningly sweet. Due to one line, it can be seen as sexual. Still it's worth the read even if you aren't a Woody/Jessie fan. It's not OOC, it's well written, and not complicated. Not that many errors either.

Maybe by dogangelsrule. (Warning: Has sexual content)

  • Recommended by Pichu
  • Status: Dead
  • Pairing(s): Woody/Jessie/Buzz
  • Synopsis: Life is changing, but Woody's two best friends will always be there to keep him company.
  • Comments: No, this isn't one of those "He likes her and he likes her but she likes.." stories. It's a OT3 fanfic, aka a polygamous fanfic. Woody has been down in the dumps for some time now so Jessie conjures up a plan to help their friend out, and said plan involves both her and Buzz dating Woody. It's an overall rare treat and while it may not be the best fanfic in terms of style, character, and dialogue it's still worth the check.

Hair by dogangelrule

  • Recommended by Pichu
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Woody/Jessie, one-sided Buzz/Woody.
  • Synopsis: Woody braids Jessie's hair. One-shot. WoodyxJessie, one-sided BuzzxWoody hints.
  • Comments: It's an endearing story. Not one that you'd typically see in a fanfic, especially a Toy Story one. Woody/Jessie is surprisingly rare, and this story (along with others by this author) capture the characters quite well. While it can be a bit creepy to people, I find it cute.
