Do warn when a fanfic may head into non-canon territory. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business.
knives4cash is a pleasure to read when it comes to one-shot shipping and friendship for the White Rose and Bumblebee pairings. With over fifty works on the shelf with his series "Pollination: The Bumblebee and White Rose," you'll be laughing and smiling for a good while, and the occasional references, crossovers, and alternate history writing make the experience even better.
As above, a writer who focuses on one-shots of Romance and friendship. Top quality work, though her fics "Roses" (about Ruby and Weiss' Dust-born child) and Transiency (Not gonna spoil), received criticism for being too sad.
Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance. The Best Laid Plans by RadiantBeam

Synopsis: "Ruby. This is a horrible idea. Please tell me you realize this is a horrible idea." ::One-shot, AU:: ::Ruby, Weiss::
Synopsis: Beacon has had its share of extraordinary new students as of late, but one more is about to be accepted in that trumps them all in just how unusual he is. Those learning at the academy will soon find that sometimes your peers can teach you lessons as well… and that the most sinister plans can be hidden.
Comments: Despite the somewhat vague summary, the story itself is a well written (both in terms of content and grammar) and interesting ride. The plot runs parallel to the series canon and the author has made it a point to make sure that the events of the main plot don't change for the most part, with only slight alterations when they do. Mind you, this doesn't mean the OC characters don't interact with the main cast, they do, but they're all well done and add depth to the main plot. You could easily see this story with its characters existing in RWBY canon. It even has its own side story called XTRA: Resolve, which covers material not seen in the main fic, at least, for the most part. The characters are great, have their own lives, and while the focus is on the protagonist, we still learn about them as well. Easily one of the best RWBY OC stories out there, I can't recommend it enough.
Synopsis: Members of Team RWBY find themselves stranded on Earth. Arriving at different times and in different places, with no idea where they are or how they got here, can they adapt to this new world and reunite with their teammates? (Takes place between Volumes 1 and 2 of RWBY, and around late 2014 on Earth.)
Synopsis: Inspired by the infamous Blood Rose, <Rage, Weep, Bleed, Yird> examines what would RWBY be like if all four members of Team RWBY had to face their inner psychosis. Be very, very afraid. Author plans to write a thousand words a day.
Synopsis: Part 1 of a semi-AU world focusing on a half-crippled Jaune as he tries to navigate the dangerous power politics of Vale and survive his time at Beacon. Even as his massively powerful family who thinks he's betrayed them guns for him.
Synopsis: Headmaster Ozpin and Glynda Goodwitch have found a potentially powerful artefact in the Emerald Forest. When brought to Beacon Academy, the students are clueless as to what this artifact, the luminescent, could mean to its holder. The students go about their not-so-regular life, unaware of what sort of trouble is caused by the Luminescent, and its brothers, the Shining Artifacts.
Synopsis: Being from a family of heroes, Jaune had long ago realized that heroism wasn't all it was cracked up to be. It was just plain sense to take a safer course in life. Unfortunately, nobody bothered to tell him that the world just didn't make sense. Inspired by the Ciaphas Cain series of Warhammer 40K.
Comments: While based on the Ciaphas Cain books, the author does not ape the series and eschews the first-person biographical style for a third-person style with alternating character POVs, getting into the mind of each. Has an interesting take on Jaune in that while outwardly he acts very close to his canon self, inwardly he, like Cain, schemes for a way to keep from getting into trouble (and fails due to rotten luck).
Synopsis: Roman attacks a street vendor who sells a special variety of dust, the only problem aside from the robbery? the special dust is spilled directly on Jaune as he fends off Roman's attack. Little did Jaune know how much of problem this would be.
Comments: Basically, Jaune gets covered in some special Dust that makes every girl in Beacon go crazy for him... including RWBY, Nora, Velvet, and a couple of O Cs. If you like watching Jaune suffer, you're bound to get a laugh. A few grammatical issues, but it's still legible.
Synopsis: If the RWBY characters were all faunus… AU in which a certain Jaune Arc fakes his transcript to gain admission into an all-faunus battle school - except he's the only human being in all of Menagerie. With his luck, it doesn't take long before he's embroiled within all their petty school politics. Which may or may not be related to all those unplanned panty shots.
Synopsis: When Ruby is forcibly taken as a bride by one of the Princes of the Cesartvo Empire, she is thrust into an alien world where might makes right and plots are around every corner. Literally less than a slave in this new realm, Ruby must utilize all her cunning to simply survive. WARNING: Contains brutal rape and torture.
Synopsis: Ten years after Beacon fell, the world has become under the control of The Cleric Foundation, an old organization from Remnants dark past. Team RWBY rejoin to not only free the world from The Cleric Foundation. But also must free themselves of their past mistakes.
Comments: This story has some pacing problems, but overall is an enjoyable ride so far, with the author promising an entire trilogy. There is also a Prequel of anthology stories that the author is allowing people to contribute too.
Synopsis:There were once three children. One looked at the ground and hated the world. One looked at the stars and hated herself. One looked forward and hated her past. Then one day, they looked at each other. Slight AU, Rated T.
Comments: The story has good action, an interesting premise, and presents an interesting, if AU, interpretation of certain characters' backgrounds. See if you can spot the Metal Gear Rising reference.
Synopsis: Cinder Fall is a young huntress who has recently been accepted into the world famous Beacon Academy, a school that will train her to fight the evil forces of the Grimm. Of course with the evil Blood Rose family, lead by the evil crime boss Ruby Rose taking action from the shadows who knows how she will survive.
Synopsis: While on a school trip to a new dig site. Jerry, a dorky sixteen year old finds a crystal filled with Dust, with a capital 'D'. His body-filled power makes him a target from a criminal, and the people who can save Jerry belong in a world that shouldn't be real. These people are 'Team RWBY'. Trust me; this isn't your typical OC story. note Not an opinion, that is literally what is written.
Comments: This story was inspired by Trogdor7620's RWBY Reckoning. So far, a very immersive and enjoyable story, with really unique characters. Overall, it's a story that is really coming into it's own, and is up there with writing.
Comments: An extremely interesting and heartwarming read about Jaune's interactions with the rest of team RWBY and JNPR. I highly recommend this great read. Word of warning though the chapters are extremely long.
Comments: Essentially, what happens when Weiss gets her hands on fanfiction and has to deal with just about everyone else being completely insane. The scope of the fic gradually expands to general tropes like Beach Episodes and genderbending, other things like video games; One chapter even covered this very wiki, referencing the Trope Pantheons. It also often features actual fics the writer deems worthy of attention. Word of warning, though; the fic is 70 chapters long and counting and the author doesn't seem to be set to stop anytime soon.
Synopsis: Team RWBY has a target painted on its back as a crack of a sniper rifle sends the team spiraling into chaos. When Weiss meets a strange yet powerful man, also seeking the same goal of vengeance, will the orders of Fate and Light prevail? Can Weiss halt the series of events that could crush the very foundation of their home, or is Vale doomed to eternal Darkness?
Comments: A thrilling read that begins with the RWBY cast being caught in a mundane assassination plot that quickly escalates into a war upon god-like figures. Word of warning: the story does pair together Ruby and Weiss fairly early, in case it isn't your cup of tea.
Synopsis: Eight years ago, Ozpin made the biggest mistake of his life. One that cost the life of a great huntress, and another huntress' faith in humanity.
Comments: A fantastic fic that manages to be surprising and heart-wrenching even though its events are a Foregone Conclusion. It also gives brief appearances to Team RWBY when they were younger, giving an idea of how they'll grow up to be who they are in the series proper.
Synopsis: A darker take on the girls of RWBY and the world of Remnant. The girls of RWBY have deadly secrets that they'd do anything to protect. Whether what they have done to get to Beacon, or their reasons for starting over at the Academy, their pasts are catching up to them. The Malachite twins have enrolled to salvage their careers, and what they know will cause everything to begin unraveling. White Rose v Ruby/Miltia triangle, Bumblebee.
Comments: A long, well planned Fanfic that seems ready to take the girls to very dark places. Inventive and intelligent, this story is worth reading if only for the unique pairing it provides and the deep and complex character arcs.
Note: A continuation of Volume 1, written before Volume 2. Worth recommending on the quality of the primary relationship alone (Pollination, aka team RWBY OT 4), the characterization and interaction of the cast is definitely the star of the show. It's also consistently funny and mostly lighthearted, though there is occasional mood whiplash into some fairly bleak territory. Also be advised about more risque scenes. Hormonal teenage girls, they are, even if written with care.
Comments: We all hate how weak Jaune was in canon and thus many had taken to making Jaune into a badass in their fics. CrossyCross decided to make him work for it. All in all a very enjoyable read, if rather dark, with plenty of O Cs that fit into the setting.
Synopsis: Tired of the effort of choosing all the names for new teams at Beacon, Professor Ozpin acquires a new piece of software intended to make things a little easier on the staff. He probably should have done a little more window shopping first.
Synopsis: Rookie monster hunter Lie Ren is subcontracted by Beacon to deal with a monster problem outside their purview. What the young hunter finds in the frozen forests of Norway, however, will change his life a great deal more than any simple raging beast...
Synopsis: Blake knew that the life she had at Beacon was a fabrication built upon a lie. No longer able to live with it, she decides to shatter this illusion and accept reality. However, she soon discovers that what she possesses within Team RWBY is something more real than anything she could ever imagine.
Synopsis: A sudden influx of Grimm in the Emerald Forest mean the perfect opportunity for surprise evaluations at Beacon Academy. Ruby and Pyrrha come out of it needing stitches, Russel and Lark almost ruin everything, and Jaune screams a lot. Hopefully they’ll get A’s.
Comments: A short fun story leading up to a glorious ending.
Synopsis: Cardin Winchester took his information to Glynda Goodwitch, leading to Jaune being forced to leave Beacon after the events at Forever Fall. But just because that avenue was closed to him, it didn't mean he couldn't find another way. When he and his former friends meet again, Pyrrha sees he's a changed man.
Comments: A simple short-story about what could have happened if Cardin lived up to his threats. The author leaves it open for anyone who wants to take the idea and run with it.
Synopsis: AU where the cast of RWBY live in a pastoral village community. Ruby spends her days as a Huntress, hunting wild game to support herself and her older sister Yang, a local blacksmith. Time period is set in medieval times in the Kingdom of Vale, right before the discovery of dust. Adventure and eventual romance with multiple pairs. Contains blood, violence, language, and sensuality.
Synopsis: A good self insert fic where Darrel is pulled from our world to the world of RWBY by an unknown force in order to save two worlds. He must now survive in an alien world by his wits and new skills.
Synopsis: Alternate Universe. Five years ago, the White Fang triggered a second Human-Faunus War. The Faunus lost and were all enslaved. One day, Velvet Scarlatina is sold to Jaune Arc, son of the legendary general who led the humans to victory. To her surprise, he is kind, generous... and a member of a group working to bring down the current social order.
Synopsis: Summer didn't know what was happening. One minute, she and her husband were in bed, the next she was here in this strange room with even stranger people. And she has to watch "visions" of the future with them? "What the heck is RWBY!"
Comments: Team RWBY and JNPR's loved ones are shown visions of their futures and struggle to deal with the knowledge, like how Summer is going to die and Blake will abandon Adam.
Synopsis: Balthazar is no hero. He has no godlike powers or skills. He has no secret past. He's nobody noteworthy. He had been an orphan, a poor street boy and finally a thief. But now, he won't even stay a thief anymore. He is going to become something infinitely tougher: a student in Beacon. Parallel to Team RWBY storyline.
Comments: One of the better RWBY OC fics, it breaks the norm by following the original characters on their own story rather then just having them tag along with Teams RWBY and JNPR. The original characters are entertaining, and the canon characters are used well without having them take over the plot. A few grammatical errors do not detract from this entertaining read.
Synopsis: What started as a late night conversation about breaking legs turns into a struggle very few would understand for Ren as he faces several facts about his childhood friend and partner, Nora Valkyrie.
Note: Don't let the title and description fool you, this is not a Dark Fic.
Synopsis: The Longest Christmas RWBY Story! Join the girls and many others as they try to make this holiday their own! Moody, lovestricken heiresses, meddling sisters and students, incredibly vivid dreams, and family drama! As a simple cry for love snowballs into something incomprehensible for one Weiss Schnee, everyone must be ready to face the cold reception surrounding a blooming rose!
Comments: Despite the author's constant jokes about overrunning till next Christmas, the fic itself is a fantastic White Rose fanfic that shows the emotional development of Weiss as she gradually opens up and finally accepts Ruby in a romantic relationship. Despite several pacing issues, the fic remains an enjoyable read and the plot manages to keep people begging for more.
Synopsis: "These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon, so it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well. That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years."
Synopsis: What does it take to be a hero? What must one give up in order to defend others? What does one gain? What if you don't have the same advantages as everyone else? Jaune will have to find out whether he wants to or not.
Comments: A AU in featuring Jaune in what is already a Fandom Specific Plot (Jaune is/becomes a Badass), and in which becomes Weiss’ partner. What distinguishes this fanfic is how well it is written. The author puts considerable time and care in crafting his alternate-Jaune and Jaune and Weiss’ interactions. A few spelling errors here and there, but very minor. Due note though, that due to Jaune's altered circumstances he's not that similar to his canon self, but he's not completely different either.
Synopsis: What if it was Nora that found Jaune in the Emerald Forest? Join our lovable members Nora and Jaune of Team JNPR as they partner up and set sail on the silliest adventure at their time at Beacon Academy!
Comments: The very first fanfic to DARE pair Jaune and Nora together, but pulled off so well it turns out to be NOTHING like a crack fic at all! True to form, you’ll find yourself grinning from ear to ear from the very beginning at the antics of not only the ever lovable Nora, but the rest of the main eight; all while remaining completely believable and lifelike in its dialogue, detail, and consistency. That said, while Nora is still the epitome of wild randomness, simpleminded hyperactivity, and overwhelming energy, it also fleshes out her character, as she does get her moments. It’s also a refreshing change from all the fics that try to turn Jaune into a badass from the get-go, designating him instead as the brains behind Nora’s immense brawn. It’s also one of the few to alter the beginning, with Nora being Jaune’s partner due to a single small happenstance, yet keep going with the dynamic of teams JNPR + RWBY as opposed to mixing it up. If you want a fun-filled, awesome, and lively story with our favorite Butt Monkey and Cloudcuckoolander, then this is the tale for you!
Synopsis: Jaune has no idea what he's doing. Nora is hyperactive. Pyrrha is composed but overwhelmed. Ren just wants some peace. Ladies and gentlemen, Team JNPR. With a room shared between these four disparate personalities, what shenanigans can ensue over the school year?
Synopsis: A story revolving around Pyrrha's affections for her goofball of a leader, Jaune's total obliviousness and all the hijinks in between. And of course, the rest of the RWBY cast will be there to put in their own useless opinions.
''Synopsis':' Beacon is home to many students with bright futures as Huntsmen and Huntresses. But for Jaune Arc, it is nothing but stressful expectations and constant failing. Already brimming with anguish, a fight with his father leaves the boy in pieces. Who will be there for him and to pick up the pieces?
Synopsis: Jaune discovers more about his partner, as he learns about her past, how will it affect him? How will it affect her?
Comments: A nice bit of backstory for Pyrrha, and how it builds the bond between her and Jaune. Also, Cardin gets pounded to a bloody pulp. Then a little Defeat Means Friendship has Jaune helping Team CRDL with their issues and gives the bully team some characterization.
Synopsis: One shot- Yatsuhashi and Velvet spend some time together. Slight Yatsuhashi/Velvet or Yatsuhashix Velvet as I don't think they have a ship name yet.
Comments: A light shipping fic about Velvet and Yatsuhashi's relationship as friends and teammates, and a heartfelt exchange they share while Coco drags Fox off to help her shop so that Velvet and Yatsuhashi can bond.
Synopsis: A sort of Pre-Verse AU. What would happen if the RWBY characters were born a couple of decades before the present? Like, for example, during the beginnings of the Faunus War. I'm going to be playing around with the relationships, romantic and otherwise. The main pairing is monochrome/checkmate.
Comments: Follows Blake and Weiss as they learn to overcome the social barrier between them and become comfortable with one another.
Synopsis: Jaune grows as a person and as a warrior with Pyrrha and Ruby falling for him in the process. To make it more complicated, Jaune reciprocates back for both of them.
Comments: A at first shaky fan fic that closely follows the actual story with some deviations that becomes it's own story after the volume 2 finale, getting smoother as it goes along. It includes and gives time to almost all the characters in the show as of the mentioned finale and several O Cs but still focuses on the growing love triangle between Jaune, Ruby, and Pyrrha. Although it is a romance, it is chalked full of fighting, gore, drama, Reality Ensues, and humor.
Synopsis: Ruby finds herself facing her end. As she pushes her semblance to new heights, the world breaks. In one fluid, crystallising moment everything changes. A 23 year old Ruby Rose, one of the deadliest hunters on Remnant, spills out of the void and into the dorm of team RWBY, including a 15 year old version of herself. A hunter in a world of unknowing prey.
Comments: Time travel AU fic but done so incredibly well. Eight years of war has transformed Ruby (known in the fic as Rose) into a very complex, tragic and dangerous person. And also incredibly brazen, vulgar and horny which thoroughly embarrasses her younger self and teammates along the way. All the characters are magnificently written and the world building and plot is so detailed that it's awe-inspiring. This is a fic that would be good enough to be its own spinoff series.
Synopsis: Ash finds himself in a new world, and in a new body, he isn't sure how this happened to him, but he will do what he can to survive and figure it out, meanwhile Ruby of team RWBY discovers something that should be impossible: a Grimm with an aura.
Synopsis: At a young age, Drake was adopted into the Ebony family. After getting accustomed to his new life he was trained to be the very best, to be the very image that was the Ebony name. Now after his 17th birthday, he is enrolling to Beacon Academy. Little does he know that he will soon experience the adventure of a life time, with a Faunus by his side, what could go do wrong? DLT stands for Delete.
Synopsis: Ruby has found every season of Red vs. Blue in her basement and saves them for summer vacation so that her whole team can watch it with her. Join them as Team RWBY watches the story of the Blood Gulch Crew and the fall of Project Freelancer... in High Definition, of course. Meanwhile, Jaune finds some Red vs. Blue songs.
Synopsis: Set before RWBY begins. There is an old and almost forgotten legend in Remnant about a mysterious man with a blue box who keeps appearing/disappearing throughout history. Who is he, really? The four members of Team RWBY all have their own unique encounters with the Doctor, and here are their stories. This story features an AU Doctor.
Synopsis: The girls from Team RWBY have been thrown into The Hetalia Universe and the nations are baffled from what these girls can do! Also, the Grimm are here as well and the world needs these unique girls to save them!
Synopsis: After experiencing a strange vision, Sora goes to a new world called Remnant to rid it of the Heartless. But when a much bigger plot rises that threatens the entirety of Remnant, Sora must team up with Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang to defeat an evil most potent. Set after Dream Drop Distance (KH) and after Volume 1 (RWBY).
Synopsis: A new piece could change so many things, but the same applies for pieces that could be aligned better as well. The world of RWBY with small, but major changes that would change their world as we know it. An AU Crossover fic.
Synopsis: After getting rejected from Signal again, Jaune becomes a Gamer, with all the RPG Mechanics Verse shenanigans you might expect from that, and his life takes an unwanted turn when he accidentally gets himself involved with the White Fang. Pre-series, slightly AU-ish.
Comments: A really pleasant read. You feel a level of emotional investment you find rarely in other fanfics. I recommend this to anyone who wants a fresh perspective on Jaune Arc.
Synopsis: A young girl rescues a small wounded animal that asks her to become a magical girl. Yuuno Scrya meets Beacon Academy student Ruby Rose. (Takes place sometime after Volume 1 of RWBY, and at the very start of Nanoha.)
Synopsis: At the brink of death, Jaune is visited by the mysterious Outsider, given his mark and the powers that come with it. Jaune now struggles to understand his role in the grand scheme of things as he utilizes the powers granted to him. (Crossover Elements with Dishonoured)
Synopsis: Jaune's village is destroyed by two invading armies, and his lover Jessamine Kaldwin is killed. Driven by a desire to honor her memory & protect their child Emily, he agrees to serve an Eldritch Abomination- the Outsider...
Synopsis: Remnant is a world besieged by Grimm. During the initiation test for the new semester at Beacon Academy the students encounter an outsider. What will change with this outsider involved and who exactly is he?
Comments: Very dark. Yang looks into Ichigo's eyes and sees a man who has given up on life. According to his flashbacks, Soul Society lost against the Vandenreich and he was the only survivor.
Synopsis: While investigating the alleged alien sightings north of Vegas, the Courier is abducted and, through a mishap, transportalpondered to the planet Remnant. It seems, however, that the planet's newest "hero" isn't as heroic as he first appears. Can a man be trusted to save a world when he's just as likely to turn his back on it?
Comments:A hilariously insane courier finds himself in the world of remnant, antics fueled by his complete insanity make for quite a laugh.]]
