Fanfic Recs: Nightwing

Title of the Fanfic by Author OR Fic Trope Page, by Author (Link) Recommended by: Troper Name
  • Synopsis: What's the story about? Give here a brief summary of the plot. It would be also useful to point out in what moment of the series the story takes place. If it's a Gen Fic but it has some romantic elements, note here the characters involved too.
  • Pairing(s): If it's a Shipping Fic, list here the pairings that feature in the fic (warn here if it's het, male slash or female slash). If it's a Gen Fic, remove this line. To tell the difference between the two, notice if the focus of the fic is on a romantic relationship or if it focuses on the other aspects of the story. In case of doubt, classify the story according to the genres it's been tagged: the Romance tag for Shipping, absence of that tag for Gen Fic.

General Fics
Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

Court Martial by Charlene Edwards
  • Recommended by Kirayoshi
  • Synopsis: After the murder of Blockbuster, Nightwing faces the music, and surrenders himself to the Justice League for trial.
  • Taut courtroom drama, superhero-style. Also a Fix Fic for Devin Grayson's Tarantula arc on Nightwing, and a grimly satisfying alternative to Identity Crisis, as the question of what to do about Dick Grayson threatens to split the JLA down the middle.

"A Spot of Tea" by paganpunk2
  • Recommended by Luanna255
  • Synopsis: Alfred and Dick have a common love; tea. A series of shorts centered around a certain butler, Boy Wonder, and beverage.
  • Charming, well-written, and well-characterized. It's also nice to see Dick's relationship with Alfred get some focus. Highly recommended!

'Forever Evil) by Xenitha
  • Recommended by Night Robin
  • Synopsis: Forever Evil AU where after Nightwing is taken captive and exposed as Richard Grayson by the evil crime syndicate from a duplicate universe and Owlman, Thomas Wayne, approaches him, asking for a partnership like that of his own, now-dead Talon. Lots of evil!Bruce/Dick father/son fluff. This does take place in New 52 but if that bothers you it can be easily ignored as long as you know the basic plot for the Forever Evil comic.

Stories whose primary focus is on romantic or sexual relationships between the cast.

  • Synopsis: Nightwing and Deadpool have a very chatty fight. "You're holding back cause you're all 'Oh, I cannot kill! For killing is Wrong and Bad and I am Good!' But me? Well," he yanked his sword out of Nightwing's leg. "no such worries."

  • 'The Spark in the Dark'' series by paganpunk2

    • Synopsis: "Orphaned and removed from the only life he's ever known, Dick feels like there's no light left for him in the world. His new benefactor, however, still sees something worth saving... Chronological beginning of the Spark in the Dark series. T for language, abuse, and death imagery." This summary does not give this first fic or in fact any of the series justice. This is the best origin story I have ever found for Dick Grayson in any fandom or website and almost all my headcanons come from this author.
