Mark of the Asphondel (Fanfiction account and Archive of Our Own account)

The Apocryphal One

Blonde Panther

  • Recommended by Fireminer
  • Summary: An author who specializes in Fire Emblem 3, 6, 7, 8, and 13 short stories. The most common themes are family and friendship. New stories come regularly at about two per month.
  • Comments: While her earlier fics might not seem very good, throughout the years the quality of her writing has improved considerably. The content of the stories are mostly about mundane subjects (like Roy growing a dragon tail), but they are well explored and will no doubt give the reader a pleasing experience.

The Erudite

  • Recommended by Robotortoise
  • Synopsis: A veteran FE author that posts many one-shots and various Fire Emblem stories, many dealing with Anna/Robin. All of the stories feature witty banter and are incredibly entertaining.
  • Comments: His fics have some of the best rapport I've ever seen between characters. Everyone is so playfully snarky to one another and it's so much fun. He manages to make mundane stories (like a family shopping trip) incredibly endearing and entertaining.

Naryfiel Lilith

  • Recommended by SpiriTsunami
  • Synopsis: Adaptation Expansion: the author. As of this recommendation (April 2017), she has finished a four-part novelization of the Elibe saga—two for the events of the two games, one for the legendary heroes of the Scouring, and one set in the generation immediately before that of the FE7 leads—through the eyes of the FE7 tactician (female) and other OCs of her family line, and has four other novelizations in progress, of FE4, FE8, FE11, and FE13.
  • Comments: All of her fics are quite good and detailed, and they portray many of the villains in a more sympathetic light, even giving the most monstrous of them some sort of motivation. The expansion to the world of Elibe is so extensive that you might find yourself taking it as Fanon. Additionally, original characters are tied to canon characters in ways that actually seem believable (e.g. Duke Victor of Velthomer is stated to have had a "myriad of mistresses", yet as far as canon is concerned Azelle is his only bastard child; the viewpoint character for the first generation of the FE4 novelization is thusly made another such child, half-sister to Azelle and Arvis.)

TheRepeat

  • Recommended by Robotortoise
  • Synopsis: TheRepeat's fanfiction works are novel-quality. His works are funny, charming, and drama-filled with fantastic and true characters. When they do have original characters, they're non-spotlight stealing and well thought-out characters that add to the story, not detract from it.
  • Comments: He's only been on the site for a year and a half, but already has some of the longest, funniest, and overall best Fire Emblem dramedy stories I've ever had the pleasure of reading. It's also very clear that his stories are thought-out well ahead of time, with foreshadowing and literary devices used accordingly. Stories have no typos. An underrated author that should not be missed.

I Challenge My Fate!

  • Recommended by Godlizard, The Giant Rock
  • Synopsis: As the name suggests, this writing blog focuses on Fire Emblem: Awakening, mostly doing whatever readers request them to write (which so far consists largely of shipping fics of varying pairings and happiness and a few non-shipping explorations of canon).
  • Comments: They take requests, but they're currently closed so they can catch up on their prompts. Posts relatively short (1000-3000 words) one-shots, but pays close attention to canon and is a very careful editor. Generally has at least a few new fics a week, hiatuses notwithstanding, and doesn't write anything explicit or that makes characters act OOC. Family (see below) is definitely their most popular fic.

FE14Drabbles

  • Recommended by Robotortoise, Skybrigadier
  • Synopsis: Welcome to FE14Drabbles. We write short stories about Fire Emblem Fates. We hope you find something you like!
  • Comments: A writing blog focused on Fire Emblem Fates. Mostly romantic fluff fics, but some contain very silly content. For instance, one of their most popular posts is a romantic dinner date between Leo and a tomato. Requests are open, but not usually for very long at a time, as they fill up fast.

Unassuming Venusaur

  • Recommended by: Prejudiced Pizza
  • Synopsis: Unassuming Venusaur and several other volunteers have written a plethora of fanmade Support conversations between characters who otherwise can't interact in the game. Many of these conversations are accessible in her Gay Fates hack, which, as you can guess, vastly expands the number of gay relationships you can pair (as well as including some new straight pairings like Flora/Jakob.)
  • Comments: All these supports are known for being very well-written, even expanding upon the characters and their backstories further in the process.

Diary of a Wimpy Kris by edgy5ever

Prologue

  • Recommended by: Raeknowsrae
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: New Mystery of the Emblem but in Diary of a Wimpy Kid form.
  • Tags: Humor, Parody
  • Comments: This series of summaries of chapters perfectly captures the writing style of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Even the people who hate Kris, found Kris very likeable here. Perfect companion while playing the NME.

General Fics

Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

    Awakening
Dark Awakening by The Giant Rock
  • Recommended by Winterkari
  • Status: Dead (last updated April 2020)
  • Synopsis: Alright, I get to star in a Fire Emblem SI. Stats? Check! Skills? Check! Inventory? Che- wait, "Estus Flask"? … Oh, shit. FE13 x Dark Souls Crossover.
  • Tags: Adventure
  • Comments: The characters are well-written and the plot is pretty engaging. The self-insert is set in the world of Awakening, but there's some elements taken from Dark Souls. This means things can get dark, so read with caution if that’s not your jam.

Change of Heart and The Fell Mask by Terry-N-Muse

  • Recommended by Louie Yang
  • Status: Complete and Dormant (last updated January 2022)
  • Synopsis: Grima returns to the past and replaces the man called Robin. Lucina knows it. The existence of Morgan becomes the spanner to break both their plans to pieces.
  • Tags: Adventure/Drama
  • Comments: A LEGENDARY FANFIC with a LEGENDARY upload speed. He wrote 258,000 words in 1.5 month(s)! The story explores an ingenious idea of Grima becoming Robin and having a family with Morgan during war. Explores deeply about family and trust. That doesn't mean other characters are cardboard as their stories are also explored such as how other shepards view a very dangerous relationship and how the children generation act in counterterrorism to make sure Grima doesn't do what he does and make Morgan to betray said Grima. You won't regret reading this story I PROMISE! (VERY HEARTWARMING)

A Day in the Life by smileplease91

  • Recommended by 017Bluefield
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: Drabbles of Fire Emblem Awakening characters. Relationships, family, friends- perhaps even those whom we wished had supports but did not. Requests are temporarily off since I need to catch up on the ones I have now. I'm so sorry! (as of October 8th, 2015)
    • Discontinued as of September 2017
  • Tags: Family/Friendship
  • Comments: Reading disparate scenes in the FEA universe has never been this much fun. smileplease91 writes the happy and sad moments that probably should be in Fire Emblem Awakening. There's already almost 300 chapters' worth of drabbles and content, with various scenarios, AUs, and story arcs. Maybe you'll get some laughs with a crazy Chrom and his "new best friend" in the "New Robin" arc. Maybe you'll cry when Henry pulls a crazy stunt on Robin—and keeps her alive through her sacrifice in an unexpected way. Maybe you'll enjoy the concert where they play "Somewhere Only We Know" by Keane (disclosure: I made the request for that one). All in all, at this point, you're bound to find something in smileplease91's A Day in the Life that'll tickle your fancy. I'd hold off on giving her requests right now, however—she's practically drowning in them! That's how popular this fanfic is!

Birth and Re-Death by ThreeDollarBratwurst.

  • Recommended by Bismuth_Mountain
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: To quote the tropes page: After Randall wakes up in an unfamiliar bar with no memory of where he is or how we got there - or why he has the accoutrements of a monk or priest - he discovers two unsettling facts. First, he is trapped in Ylisse, the fictional land of Fire Emblem Awakening, and second, the frustrating process mentioned above has become his reality - when he dies, he returns to a previous point in time and can "retry" what got him killed in the first place.
  • Tags: Adventure/Drama
  • Comments: Birth and Re Death quite cleverly and carefully uses the death/return mechanic, and doesn't lean on it to keep itself going along. It deviates from the plot of Awakening in enjoyable ways, at times employing entirely original characters and world building to fill the gaps the game leaves. If you like Self-Inserts, this is absolutely worth a read.

All the World's a Sale by Narwhal Lord

  • Recommended by Bismuth_Mountain
  • Status: Dormant; last updated August 2021
  • Synopsis: An actor and self-insert wakes up in Valm after a nasty incident in a play, soon joining Anna on her trip out of Valm. They become fast friends as the adventure unfolds, but the road to the end of Awakening won't be so easy...
  • Tags: Adventure/Humor
  • Comments: If ATWAS has one thing going for it, it's definitely the presentation. The banter and character writing is usually high quality, if sometimes focusing too much on that and meandering as a result. Probably has the best-written Adult Tiki out there.

Fire Emblem Awakening: Invisible Ties by metallover

  • Recommended by Prometheus 117, The Giant Rock
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: When Robin wakes up in the middle of a field with no memory of his past nothing could prepare him for the adventure that awaits. Alongside the Prince of the kingdom of Ylisse Chrom and his faithful band of Shepherds, Robin rises from a humble tactician to one of the saviors of an entire world.
  • Tags: Humor/Parody, Violence
  • Comments: Despite the fact this story is listed as an adaption of Fire Emblem: Awakening, it manages to flesh out the characters in a way that, while still keeping in canon with the story, manages to make them more human and believable, showing off what might have been only implied in-game. Robin, for example, develops his own interesting, quirky personality that makes him both funny and yet understandable and natural to the audience. OCs, while present, do not take away from the main characters, but rather flesh out the plot and make it even more enjoyable. The result is potentially the greatest adaption of a Fire Emblem game that has come out in recent years.

Shadow of a Doubt by ancestrallizard

  • Recommended by Inner Glow
  • Status: Completed
  • Synopsis: Frederick is rightly suspicious of the Shepherds' new tactician.
  • Tags: Adventure
  • Comments: An AU where Robin is a dragon. The concept and way they write it is great! I would love to see this become a big fanfic!

Daydreams and Nightmares by lambentLodestar

  • Recommended by Hollownerox, Skybrigadier
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: It's a weird sensation to fall asleep in California one day and wake up in Ylisse at the same time. Apparently, my name is now Shanzira, and I'm trying not to die here. Came pretty close already. I need to brush up on my knowledge of this game; it's been two years since it came out, and being in college and all, I've had my hands full, what with animating. Robin, don't let me die!
  • Tags: Humor/Adventure
  • Comments: Another surprisingly well written self-insert fic. This one goes in the "dreamer" direction, with the main character shifting between dimensions whenever her respective body goes to sleep. Lots of comedy and interesting additions to the plot that will keep the reader's attention; mainly having to do with a group hunting the "dreamers".
    • Eh... Personally, I found the main plot enjoyable, but the main character was incredibly grating. She acted like one of those "quirky" girls that try very hard to be unique, yet fail to be so. The writing itself was well-done enough, but it's a very archetypical self-insert fic. - Robotortoise

The (Cruel) Mother's Gift and other Tales Through Time by Dane-Namor

  • Recommended by SEESWildCard, The Giant Rock
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: A series of tales dealing with different possibilities throughout FE:A. Heavy focus on second-gen characters and parent-child relationships.
  • Tags: Adventure/Drama
  • Comments: The chapters will either leave you laughing, cheering, crying, and anywhere in between. The author seems fond of putting his characters through hell and having others drag them back out. Well-written character interaction. WARNING: Heavy angst in some parts.
    • There's a lot of variety in individual stories. Better yet, each chapter is usually self-contained; the author will take an idea and run with it to a satisfying conclusion, no matter how long the chapter ends up being. The grammar is sometimes weak in early chapters but improves later on. There's a lot of interesting ideas, so give it a read!

De-cruited by thewhitepatch

  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: After the defeat of Grima, Robin has been tasked with firing the different Shepherds. Join him as he lets each of them down as easily as he can.
  • Tags: Humor
  • Comments: Robin is a jerk and has no compunctions about breaking the fourth wall. It could use a quick spell-check, but if you don't mind that it's pretty enjoyable.

Unconventional Tactics by WeEatBabies

  • Recommended by The Giant Rock
  • Status: Dead (no recent updates)
  • Synopsis: Because the title "Avatar" is extremely misleading and Robin doesn't do a damned thing the same way we'd really want to. A series of one-shots.
  • Tags: Humor
  • Comments: Short and hilarious, featuring an OOC Robin. The sheer face-palming he inspires in his comrades will bring a smile to your face. The title may be misleading; this isn't a satire of FE mechanics, barring the first chapter.

Grimaspawn, Timelost Psychotics and Lesser Irritants by MorayInTheWreck

  • Recommended by The Giant Rock, Robotortoise
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Standalone stories of Morgan, Morgan, Lucina, and the rest of Fire Emblem Awakening's cast, with a focus on the second generation.
  • Tags: Humor/Drama
  • Comments: A story with a similar setup to The Cruel Mother's Gift. Characters are mostly on-point. Individual stories can have abrupt and jarring twists (ex. Robin is dancing one second and finds himself in an imagined hell the next second), but they're usually interesting.

Family by I Challenge My Fate!

  • Recommended by Godlizard, The Giant Rock
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Awakening. Lucina ventures into the ruins of Ylisstol and finds an old oil painting of the parents she never knew, which reveals some things she probably would have rather not discovered.
  • Tags: Some mentions of violence and a lot of sadness
  • Comments: A short but sad one-shot that focuses on familial love and the ramifications of the Avatar being Lucina's mother. Easily the most popular fic that this author has written.
    • My favorite premise for Lucina's backstory, and it's done well to boot.

Cycle by RoseWarden

  • Recommended by The Giant Rock, Robotortoise, CrusaderJerome
  • Status: Dormant (last updated February 2022)
  • Synopsis: Robin is a young woman who bakes cakes during the day, sleeps at night, and drinks on weekends. She does not wage wars, fight demons, or solve dating issues. Yet, somehow by divine mistake, she's found herself doing just that. Clearly, someone has her confused with another Robin...
  • Tags: Adventure, Drama, violence, language, and mature themes
  • Comments: A pseudo-self-insert in which canon has been skewed. Most alterations to the story feel pretty organic, and the world builds itself up well, if slowly. Robin feels very much like someone from our world trying to do the best she can. She screws up, gets lucky breaks, and is generally fun to observe.
    • Also, it's worth noting that the thing is ENORMOUS! Currently clocked over 600k words and still frequently updating, it feels like a large-scale, grand adventure. A fantastic, very entertaining read!

Asleep by Gone2GroundEX

  • Recommended by Strunk64
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: A Fire Emblem fan finds himself sucked into the world of Awakening. In Lunatic Mode.
  • Tags: Drama/Humor
  • Comments: Well written, updates fairly quickly, keeps the cast in-character. Manages to create an actually likable Self-Insert, and has enough surprises to keep you guessing. Contains some shipping, but it doesn't override the plot.
    • It starts off following somewhat of Awakening's plot, but will most likely make a clean split from the original storyline with the introduction of the Divine Pantheon. Don't expect it to follow even anything resembling Awakening's plotline after the Plegia Arc ends.
    • There's cool ideas, and the author is clever enough to add a way of offsetting the self-insert advantage of foreknowledge. However, I couldn't keep track of the new characters and the scope of the story in later chapters.

  • Pairing(s): Nah/M!Morgan, Owain/Inigo, Severa/Lucina

Multiverse by The Right Hand of Light

  • Synopsis: In the infinite realities and worlds that exist, most things stay the same—but Robin is always different. A series of one-shots exploring Chrom's relationships (platonic and otherwise) with a different Robin each chapter.
  • Tags: Friendship/Humor
  • Comments: Discrete one-shots, each with an interesting setup, and always with a Chrom and a Robin. Some are humorous, some are romantic, some are platonic, and some just have Robin annoying the hell out of Chrom. Each one-shot is always well-written and very entertaining.

Dissonance by TheRepeat

  • Recommended by Robotortoise
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Robin's lost his memories again. Wacky rom-com hijinks ensue (but not really).
  • Tags: Drama/Romance
  • Comments: Starts off as a romantic comedy, but soon evolves into an action/adventure drama. Incredibly clever, and really well-written. Dialogue is very humorous and witty, yet the story itself is rather serious. Chock-full of good ideas, realistically-acting characters, and a zany Morgan, this story is a joy to read. Starts off at the end of Awakening, but quickly evolves into its own tale.

Singularity by CondorTalon

  • Recommended by Robotortoise

  • Synopsis: Grima is defeated, Robin is gone, and the world moves on. Or so the story is supposed to go. And as Robin wakes up once again in the familiar field, alone, he quickly realizes that this isn't how it's supposed to happen. Supposed to happen? Why does Robin know what that means?
  • Tags: Adventure

  • Synopsis: Sir Fredrick did not understand much about advertising, nor how overbearing his master found him to be at times. He walks into a print shop in Ylisstol to enlist the aid of an artisan and his assistant to create some rather interesting propaganda. "You want me to draw and print WHAT?" The tale of an infamous poster and the graphic designers hired to make it.
  • Tags: Humor
  • Comments: Frederick and Chrom’s C-Support from the perspective of the merchant who had to draw the posters. Surprisingly original. Of course, it's also very funny.

Lookin' at the Bright Side by MatchaMida

  • Synopsis: Man, I totally need to change my fashion sense. It's probably the reason why I'm having so much bull. Maybe I should go to Maribelle or Sumia for some advice. But on the bright side, at least it's not bad like milords. Who in Naga's name wears only one sleeve? If this is some disturbing method to attract the ladies, it's not working.
  • Tags: Humor/Adventure
  • Comments: A Robin that has a sharp tongue and masculine appearance goes through the plot of Awakening. Robin is very snarky, aloof, and silly, which is apparently a dangerous combination. Very fun fic that has a more realistic take on Robin.

  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: "Welcome to the world of Fire Emblem Awakening. I'm here to make sure you don't die in a stupid way. If you listen to me, your death will be heroic and dignified." A different sort of Self-Insert story.
  • Tags: Drama/Humor
  • Comments: A self-insert story that bites the hand that feeds it and pokes fun at self-insert stories while being one itself. More or less a “'How to Be Sucked into the Awakening Universe 101'” guide. Has less of an emphasis on the Awakening plot and more on character interactions.

Metallover's Self-Insert Adventure by metallover

  • Recommended by Robotortoise
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Ever wonder what happens when an aggressive, foul-mouthed, broke-ass geek gets transported into his favorite Fire Emblem game? Yeah, I'll bet you do. A light, humorous self-insert crack re-telling of Awakening starring me, the author of Invisible Ties. Warnings for swearing, violence, sexual content and bad pop-culture references. And why the cat, you ask? I don't know either.
  • Comments: A self-insert story that doesn't take itself seriously at all and focuses on character interactions, rather than the Awakening game plot most readers have already read about a hundred times. It's similar to 'Teachings of the Bard' in that respect. That, coupled with the great writing (this IS the same author who wrote Invisible Ties, after all!) make this a fic worth reading. Oh, and it's really funny, to boot. Has a cat as the story cover, for some reason.

The Lost Children: Ananias by OkayDokey33

  • Recommended by Robotortoise
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Anna's future son. He lives to serve since he's long accepted the fact that he's not talented enough to do much of anything else, unless you count manual labor and his ability to keep his cool in most situations. Apparently the Anna philosophy of "customer satisfaction" runs deep within his veins. Is the best listener in the entire army. These are his Paralogues and Supports.
  • Tags: Family/Friendship
  • Comments: A support log for an original character named “Ananias”, son of Anna. Ananias is a surprisingly great original character with an Awakening-styled gimmick of being non-expressive. Supports are written in normal fiction style rather than script format. His supports and interactions with the other Awakening characters are very entertaining and keep everyone in-character. Eventually, has supports with the author's own OCs.

  • Tags: Asexual Character, Friendship, Time Travel, Family
  • Comments: An Awakening AU where there's a lot more to Grima than meets the eye. Great writing, jumps around a bit but uses different POVs and flashbacks to show different sides of a larger story. One such flashback is one of, if not the best, Robin-becomes-Grima scene I've read.

Interviews with a Tactician by Scourge of Infinis

  • Recommended by Robotortoise. Seconded by Lucky Flanker 13
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: In which Robin decides to conduct interviews with existing and potential Shepherds to ensure their loyalty and commitment to the cause (and some other details). What could possibly go wrong?
  • Tags: Humor/Romance
  • Comments: An absolutely hilarious story with an out-of-character, extremely bureaucratic Robin that has immense love for Sumia's pies and consistently goes on absurd rants. He's an absolute joy to watch bumble around in his incompetent manner, getting into all sorts of wacky hijinks. This story will have you rolling on the ground with laughter. He also tends to do things right, such as having the disciplined and orderly Cordelia as his secretary and having Miriel research and examine Stahl's complete average-ness.
    • I second that - Robin's silver-tongued obliviousness, wittiness, and overall silliness will leave your sides splitting from the sheer hilarity. Interviews balances comedy and character development so well that it'll leave you sad when you reach the current endpoint. Five Stars~

It's fascinating seeing how far she grows from her first journey as a mute in the desert to speaking complete sentences and earning friends. • Tags: Humor/Drama
  • Comments: This very funny dramedy features two Robins, (one of each gender - not twins, thank god!) and a much more knowledgeable Lucina. The plot unfolds as normal, but the story doesn't focus on it; instead, the friendships between the cast are in focus here. A somewhat lighthearted adventure story.

  • Tags: Adventure/Hurt/Comfort
  • Comments: An interesting story of time travel that stars one Robin betrayed by the Shepherds in her own world, then travels to another to protect the Robin of that timeline. Natzo takes a more cynical and realistic look on each individual member of the Shepherds without ever seeming over-the-top gritty or depressing, and including several heartwarming or even humerus scenes to break the melancholy. Worth a look.

  • Synopsis: Chrom and Robin successfully defeated Validar, but when the Hierophant awakened Grima on her own, Robin failed to resist the fell dragon’s power and became Grima’s vessel. Carrying the Parallel Falchion and the Fire Emblem, Lucina and the other Shepherds fled Grima’s Table, leaving behind Robin and a badly-wounded Chrom, both of whom they assumed to be dead. Now Risen roam the land and Grima pursues the Shepherds. But somehow the Vessel seems to have retained a little more of woman she once was this time...

  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: In the blink of an eye, I was transported across dimensions into a world I'd only seen through a screen. It wasn't a game anymore, though. It was a living, breathing place, filled with people that had their own problems and troubles. The road ahead is stained with blood and laden with bodies, but it's one that leads to a beautiful sunrise. (SI)
  • Pairing(s): OC/Cordelia, Chrom/Sumia
  • Tags: Adventure, Drama, Tragedy, Romance
  • Comments: A great SI story with a compelling main character and interesting story. Characters are written well and the story from start to finish is filled with much twists and turns. Along the way, the main character, Alex, faces many hardships, all of which develops him a lot. A must read for a SI fic with a really good plot from start to finish.

Fire Emblem Awakening: Purpose by JHAkrasia

  • Recommended by BrandedKing
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: A novelization - Robin is adopted into a family of fighters and noblemen called the Shepherds. He must guide them and their prince into battle against a vengeful foe from a war neither of them partook in. Chrom must rise to the occasion and cast off the yoke lain on his family by his father, and Robin must find his place in the world while he keeps his new family safe.
  • Pairing(s): Robin/Cordelia, Chrom/Sumia
  • Tags: Adventure, Drama, Fanasty
  • Comments: This story is seriously slept on. It follows the plot of Awakening from the point when Robin awakes in Southtown, but is very character focused. Robin fills his role as the tactician of the Shepherds well, getting to know each of the Shepherds well and forming bonds with them. A really good Awakening novelisation story.

  • Comments: A look at how the present-day second-gen characters might feel about their future counterparts, told mostly through the viewpoint of Lucina, here called Nina to differentiate herself from her adult self. Most of the other kids get a few cameos, too. There's some seriously emotional and complex stuff in here; Nina's feelings towards Lucina are all done very realistically and relatably.

  • Synopsis: Even if the blood of the Dragon flows in your veins, you can not escape death. Even if you give your loved ones as much love as possible, they will still grief when you are gone... This is the story how his comrades and family mourned for Corrin, the Prince of Two Kingdoms and King of One.
  • Pairing(s): F/M Corrin/Azura, Shigure/Soleil
  • Tags: Spiritual/Tragedy
  • Comments: You'll have to read this story from start to end to truly make sense of it, since the rosy writing and the fact that it's a part of a bigger, unpublished story make the short extremely abstruse. Other than that, the writing is quite impeccable.

The Invisible Princess by The Apocryphal One

  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: She was a ghost at court, always watching, always silent, always ignored. The story of Mikoto, and how she became the Queen of Hoshido.
  • Tags: Drama/Tragedy
  • Comments: A phenomenally-written drama that elaborates on the backstory of Mikoto, Garon and others. Could be its own officially-licensed Fates novel; it’s THAT well-done. Keeps within the Fates canon, though it should be noted that Corrin starts off with the name “Kamui” and is male. Other than that, everything fits within any and all Fates canon. There are quite a few interesting ideas. Most importantly of all, Mikoto feels like a real, clever person, rather than “Hoshidan Emmeryn”, and her relationships are explored and fleshed out in-depth.

  • Comments: Psuedo-sequel to The Garden Club. Jakob’s thoughts and worldview make for an entertaining romp as we see his special brand of cynicism first-hand. Doesn’t follow the in-game plot at all, but does contain Revelation spoilers. It’s absolutely hilarious, and its absurd surrealism is unlike any other Fates fics.

  • Tags: Alternate Ending, Abduction, Battle, Captivity, Post-Betrayal, Drama, Alternate Universe, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Rescue Missions
  • Comments: A divergence from the canon Hoshido path, in which Corrin is captured shortly after chapter 18. The way this fic explores the progression of this war onwards is exciting, Nohr characterization is expanded well, and in my opinion this is more engaging to read than the actual game story itself.

A Brighter Dark by DeathDealer-Inc

  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: Nohr was dying. Even in her castle, Corrin could see that. So, if the Hoshidans wouldn't share their sun, then she would take it; to save her people. A retelling of Conquest.
  • Tags: Tragedy/Family
  • Comments: A serious fic that features a Corrin who is not a ball of sunshine and deconstructs a number of events that happen throughout the story by playing them out in a more realistic way. A retelling of Conquest that you should definitely read.
    • I disagree. The "not all sunshine and rainbows" Corrin as depicted in A Brighter Dark is unbearable as a viewpoint character, and the changes the story makes to the worlds of Hoshido and Nohr for the sake of "realism" makes both sides even less believable and relatable (removing Valla from the setting but still sticking closely to The Stations of the Canon brings up its own set of issues). The constant slamming of the Hoshido side (and Fates as a game in general) is also grating, as is the overall grimdark tone—the attempted "War Is Hell" message doesn't work when the narrative revels in describing the gruesome deaths inflicted by Nohr's war machine. All in all, not one I'd ever want to read again, or recommend to others. - Willy Four Eyes.
    • I've got to agree with Willy Four Eyes. The author was clearly a teenager when he wrote this because his idea of what's tough and cool are just so juvenile, and there's way too much focus on making things Darker and Edgier to the point where the setting couldn't even exist (deleting the sun?!). - Industrious Arc, a.k.a. Death Dealer Inc (author of A Brighter Dark)

  • Comments: A promising Peggy Sue fic in which Bernadetta is thrust back five years into the past to her first year at the Officers Academy. Bernadetta proves to be an interesting protagonist in that, while she is carries with her the Character Development she had via her supports, she isn't quite cured of her Shrinking Violet tendencies and lack of social skills. In fact, her knowledge of future events ends up causing her more personal grief and embarrassment than magically fixing things. Mixing things up further is the sudden presence of Sothis in her mind, with the two of them having an entertaining dynamic, and the earlier appearance of Monica aka Kronya, who proceeds to establish a one-sided Friendly Enemy relationship with poor Bernie against her will.

It's an Ongoing 4 part story, currently in the Academy phase and the politics of Fodlan are going to be quite different, Ferdinand is the heir of Adrestia, the Duscur genocide was averted and there's no war in sight yet. • Comments: An interesting take of an Alternate Universe role swap with many parallels to canon events and characterizations, where Nemesis becomes The Atoner after a while instead of being truly evil, leading to Seiros hating humanity more than her canonical counterpart did, becoming the villain instead. And instead of Fodlan's history being crafted in lies, the history of this story's Fodlan had it's message and true story distorted in time, which all leads to Claude becoming the Tragic Hero instead of Edelgard. An intriguing story.

The Winter Lady of Fraldarius; by teecup

  • Status: Dormant (last updated June 2022)
  • Synopsis: A few months after leaving the monastery with his daughter, Jeralt goes to an old friend to ask for help in protecting his daughter and helping him find out what the Archbishop had done to her. The king of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, of course, agrees to help his old friend and decided that making Jeralt’s child the daughter of his closest friend and greatest ally Duke Fraldarius would be the best way to keep her safe.
  • Comments: An AU that promises to be massive, where Byleth was secretly adopted by Rodrigue and raised alongside Glenn and Felix. It expands on Three Houses already fantastic worldbuilding by delving more into the history and culture of Faerghus, the various noble families, and the parents of the Blue Lion childhood friend squad, in a way remniscient of A Song of Ice and Fire. Will eventually have Dimitri/f!Byleth, but it's very much not the fic's focus.

  • Comments: An AU story that while only having started, shows a lot of potential and a very interesting premise. I am personally very interested to see how things will go with Byleth siding with Those Who Slither in the Dark.

  • Synopsis: How do you hide your true nature when it walks the world beside you, for everyone to see? You can't. So, what then? Or: If Edelgard believed in signs, she’d struggle to think of one stronger than this. Dimitri’s worst moments haunt him like the ghosts. Claude is a trickster, a schemer; might as well own it. And something is Wrong with Byleth. Or: The daemon AU nobody asked for.
  • Comments: An AU borrowing Daemons and general metaphysics from His Dark Materials. Starts off as canon plus Daemons and lets things snowball naturally. I am personally very interested to see just how far off the rails said snowballing takes things, and how the truth of the Red Canyon is handled. At this point it's looking very certain that by the end of part one nothing of the canon rails will remain intact.

  • Synopsis: [Verdant Wind] Byleth offers her hand to a defeated emperor. A delirious Edelgard accepts.
  • Comments: An interesting canon-divergence AU following the Verdant Wind route in which Edelgard's intended Dying Declaration of Love causes Byleth to spare Edelgard's life and offer her a chance to fight by her side. Redemption naturally doesn't come easy to Edelgard, partially as a result of being surrounded by many who don't naturally trust her and partially because she sees herself as a prisoner. It does lead to a very different side to Edelgard often not depicted in fanfics, specifically how she would react if she failed in her pursuits but was left alive. A bit of a warning, several characters you might be a fan of such as Dorothea and Bernadetta are confirmed dead at the very start of the story.

  • Comments: A very well written and enjoyable fic, the best parts for me is the character interactions. Santos is a very well rounded character, and his interactions with other characters are incredibly done, whether they be characters featured in the original game or were only mentioned in passing. I cannot recommend this story enough.

Perhaps that was why he was drawn to those who could not find a place in this world. Or rather, what if the Ashen Wolves were a legitimate house and Byleth chose to become their instructor?
  • Comments: An interesting look to what if the Ashen Wolves are a legitimate house instead of being anh unofficial one. It has only recently started out but the story is promising. Worth a read for those who love the Ashen Wolves.

  • Comments: As implied by the title, this story is going to focus on the consequences of the Crimson Flower ending. So far, Claude's death has already driven a young Almyran woman into a spiral of vengeance against the Empire. Fair warning, this story has heavy spoilers for the Crimson Flower route as well as Claude in general.

  • Synopsis: Byleth.. a teacher? She has never allowed any challenge to beat her, but this new scenario is especially perplexing since her first task is to decide which house she is going to chose to mentor. Used to Jeralt making all of the important decisions in her life, this - her very first independent choice - may be too much to handle.

It's not like who she chooses is going to be all that important though .. right?

  • Comments: An interesting and heartwarming AU that, like the synopsis states, features a less emotionless Byleth that with a child (that just so happens to secretly be Sothis reincarnated), an expanded look at Jeralt’s Mercenaries, Byleth’s letters to his deceased lover, side stories, all rolled up in the Golden Deer route.

-A mystery/intrigue Rock band AU disguised as a dry-witted romcom-
  • Tags:Alternate Universe - Modern Setting
  • Comments: This is an AU that stars 3 of the Blue Lion childhood friends, alongside Annette, which takes place in a modern setting with a rock band. Happens to be one of the top stories featuring Felannie and Sylvgrid, and it shows how the characters grow as they play in their band. There are some strong moments of angst here and there to make things interesting. Would recommend a read all the way through.

Hubert is unusually cheerful, Byleth teaches the Blue Lions, and nobody has heard of the Flame Emperor.
As she works to figure out how to return to the world and the future she knew, Edelgard will do anything to get close to her beloved wife Byleth again... even if it means abandoning her friends in the Black Eagles Strike Force. Meanwhile, she must unravel the mystery of the Hurricane King and his sinister henchman the Death Knight. What could Those Who Slither in the Dark be plotting in this strange new world — and if Edelgard isn't a part of their plans, then who is?
  • Comments: An interesting premise where Edelgard, Post-Crimson Flower route, finds herself in the body of an alternate version of herself, six years in the past where she never went through the Crest Experiments and the Insurrection of the Seven ended more amicably. Now Edelgard has to figure out on how she got stuck in this world and how it's connected to the machinations of Those Who Slither in the Dark while connecting with Dimitri who in this alternate world, took her place in the Crest Experiments and is the Hurricane King.

  • Synopsis: By now, you already know how this goes. The protagonist dies, meets someone important, and gets a second lease on life in another world. Our hero meets his untimely end after saving a kid from being hit by a car, only to reawaken in the body of a nobleman recently deceased. He now inhabits the body of Lord Joshua von Cristo, head of House Cristo, who the world believes has somehow returned from the dead! Between political intrigue and dangers that lurk around every corner, "Joshua" is going to need every possible advantage he can get if he wants to survive the war looming over Fódlan's horizon!
  • Comments: Currently only three chapters long at the time of this writing, but is arguably one of the better Self-Insert OC-centric fanfics out there. It's stylized like a Light Novel isekai story, which helps add to the charm, and the characters are well-written. Worth a read if you're willing to overlook the current focus on an OC.

Blue Blood Runs Red by earthdeep

  • Synopsis: In the midst of the campaign against the Adrestian Empire, Byleth is captured by the enemy and presented with a job offer they simply cannot refuse.
  • Comments: A relatively dark story about Azure Moon!Byleth being taking by the Empire and made to work with Jeritza. Could be considered a slow burn Bylitza fic, although the focus is on Byleth witnessing the toll the war is taking and (as of new updates) challenging their allegiance to the Kingdom of Faerghus and its nobility. It's personal, rather dark, and very well written, plus it features the wholely underrated they/them Byleth and Byleth/Jeritza pairing.

  • Synopsis: Edelgard hated the Archbishop. But the woman in front of her wasn't Rhea, the Archbishop. She was Rhea, the mother begging for her child's life. And Edelgard didn't have it in her to refuse.
  • Comments: A gripping fic that seems to be heading towards a Golden Ending. The stakes have never been higher for all involved now that they are working together, but the story has it's fair share of heartwarming moments; the very concept of all three Lords and Byleth united as one is heartwarming in and of itself. Superbly written, better than the comments I leave for my recommendations, I highly recommend this fic.

A man left the Tomb with him, an ancient champion of the Church of Seiros, tired and broken, but willing to lend his strength in the fight to free Fódlan from the Adrestian Empire. Old secrets are unraveled, and a forgotten history unveiled.
  • Comments: Yes, I know that a lot of the fics I recommend are either OC or self-insert fics, but I legitimately feel that they are very well written. This one is unique in the sense of when the OC first arrived in Fodlan; instead of during the events of Three Houses, he arrives during the war between Seiros and Nemesis. If you're looking for something different from your general OC fanfic, this one is for you.

  • Synopsis: It is the Year 352 Post Upheaval, or 2385 AD had the United States remained on Earth. Due to a treaty signed between the nations of Fodlan and this lost nation, many Americans had been allowed to attend Garreg Mach Monastery's Officers Academy for almost one hundred years, but only recently had they been permitted to form their own house: The Emerald Diamondbacks.
With this new house, the students of the Class of 1181 (by Fodlan's years) will have to brace themselves for a new kind of student: Students that have been bred for battle; students who have their own agenda to fulfill that will conflict with even with the most powerful of Fodlan's leaders, both known and unknown; students who have their own secrets to keep as a dark shadow suddenly looms over the Academy; students who, at the end of the day, may just be the key to challenging the church's authority over the people and usher in a new era for Fodlan, and perhaps, the world.
But to the natives, they are only known as the few, the proud, the Marines.
    Semper Fidelis... Always Faithful...
  • Comments: The premise of this fic reminded me of America's Stepbrother, America's Enemy, which I enjoyed reading a lot. While this story has only just started and progress seems to be slow, it is very well written and is setting up some interesting plot threads. I recommend this ambitious fic to anyone who is looking for something a bit different from this fandom.

Varley VS The Crown by Commander_Freddy

  • Pairings: Edelgard/Bernadetta and Ferdinand/Hubert
  • Synopsis: Count Varley has had it coming for a long, long time. With the end of the war, Bernadetta's own success in the eyes of the Empire, and, now, the death of her mother, Bernadetta is finally ready to face him.
Or, at least, she's gotten sick enough of running from him.
  • Comments: Set after Crimson Flower, Bernadetta and Hubert travel to Varley territory, seeking evidence which can be used to prosecute the Count and prevent him from retaking power in the wake of his wife's death. There Bernadetta must confront her childhood trauma, what she wants from the future, and the nature of her feelings for Edelgard. The fic does an excellent job of capturing the bleak and oppressive atmosphere of Varley territory and the plight of its denizens, which serve to parallel Bernadetta's story and her attempts to come to terms with her past. The author is fantastic at capturing each character's voice, especially Bernadetta's anxiety which is painfully true-to-life. The fic is canon compliant with vanilla Three Houses, but not Cindered Shadows or Three Hopes.
CONTENT WARNING: As is to be expected of a story centering on Bernadetta and her father, physical and psychological abuse feature heavily in the story. The fic also contains explicit (non-abusive) sexual content involving both listed pairings, but it is not the primary focus.

Thus Byleth embarks on a whole new route to find his path after the betrayal of the one he held close to his heart. Will his former students stand with him or stand against him? (Ashen Demon route, a different take on Byleth, flashbacks to White Clouds)
  • Comments: This AU fic addresses a possibke What If? scenario that I'm surprised has not been explored more until now. The story so far is very gripping, and the action scenes are extremely well written. Additionally, the character's personalities are captured extremely well, and I find myself engrossed and invested to see what happens next. A must read for any Three Houses fan.

  • Synopsis: A Darker and Edgier AU story focusing on Elincia. After Ike and his company do not manage to arrive in time, having to sacrifice Lucia becomes Elincia's first step down a long, dark and cruel road to protect her kingdom at all costs, occasionally reminiscent of Lelouch vi Britannia. Quite a few character deaths and surprises. Now with its very own trope page!
  • Tags: Drama/Tragedy
  • Comments: Dark, but in believable levels. Comes over quite realistic in general. Now complete.
    • Seconded. Though it's quite dark and angsty, it's kept to believable levels as said, and the writing itself is quite good, as well as it being a fairly interesting concept to begin with.
      • I hate to be the dissenter but if you enjoy Fire Emblem this fic is not for you. It is utterly depressing and I get the comparison to Lelouch but even he pales in comparison to the true amount of evil that is Elincia. If you like villain protagonists, have no issues with a crapsack world, and want to see the most evil character to ever appear before this troper look no further than "Elincia"
      • Seriously? You think this Elincia is the "most evil" character ever? Then you clearly haven't played Radiant Dawn, because I can name at least four people in that game alone who are a lot more evil than her... and they all appear in this story.
      • Ultimately, this story is an excellent example of the phrase "the road to hell is paved with good intentions," and Utopia Justifies the Means comes into play at the end. So if that's not your thing, don't read it. But if it is your thing, then you should read the crap out of it.
    • A darkly enthralling and unique piece of work. You won't find many fics with the both the same atmosphere and excellent execution in the FE fandom.

  • Tags: Humor/Parody
  • Comments: I don't even play the games, but I ended up laughing reading it! A good written crack (yeah, I know, sounds like an oxymoron, but it's right) that pokes fun at elements of Tellius (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn), especially in characters' interaction, especially Ike. The author also writes some other stories (also humor) like Diary of a Wimpy Kid that focuses on Pelleas, and so on.
    • YMMV. There's a lot of Micaiah-bashing, and being a Micaiah fan that is a tad upsetting. In addition, there is at least implied Ike/Soren, and being someone who is sickened by the ship, it was difficult to read it without being distracted. If you are a humor lover, rabid Micaiah hater, and Ike/Soren shipper, this is your thing. If you aren't, then you'd best move on.
    • Excellent satire. Read the first chapter at a minimum to see if the style is right for you. You won't be disappointed.

  • Synopsis: A young man from earth gets sucked into the world of Fire Emblem. He experiences life, romance, and hardships along the way.
  • Tags: Adventure
  • Comments: This is one of the best first-person fics in the fandom I've seen in a while. John, the self-insert, is not a Gary Stu, but rather a confused young man who ponders his place in the FE world. Also, cameos from other FE games come in as part of the Greil Mercenaries. A truly, awesome fic filled with references that you must read.
    • Still recommended, but YMMV. While the attention paid to the large cast is great, the protagonist skirts dangerously close to being a Stu at times, Parody Retcon notwithstanding: everyone's attracted to him, he can do magic nobody else can, he solves everyone's personal problems with his infinite wisdom etc... At times it seems to morph into a rant by the author about his (real) life, and the constant references get really annoying. It's down to the reader whether this detracts from the story or not.

The suspense raises up when you see the evil(OC) scientist turn Lethe beastly and the Greil Mercenaries waste no time to go and find their teammate through waves of enemies. A great story that truly shows Nakama bonds and development with the main characters (Ike, Soren, Lethe, Mordecai, Zihark, ect.), and would have fit PERFECTLY in the actual game, even if it can be only be called Filler. Also features a more traditionally Sueish tactician. Who dies. At least once.
  • Tags: Violence, Death, Adventure/Romance
  • Comments: Be prepared to have your mind screwed with. There will be death, repeatedly (not to mention one character is saved by having an arm amputated). X was the inspiration for me to launch this YKTTW. Also, utilizes many of the fandom's favorite triangles (More victorious pairing first in each triangle: Priscilla/Erk/Serra, Lucius/Serra/Erk, Guy/Priscilla/Erk, Raven/Rebecca/Wil followed by Sain/Rebecca/Raven...Priscilla/Guy/Florina?...and, yes, Sain actually apparently wins, greatly delighting this shipper.) For laughs, read the summaries of the previous chapter. The further I get into rereading this (yes, I recommended it despite not having read it in quite some time; mostly Dead Fic), the more I want to do a full-on Trope Listing. (Serra gets a Green Rocks-type MacGuffin! But later, she dies! And it's actually heartbreaking!)

    • Raxis: YMMV. The author tries to trim the fat off the proverbial meat of the storyline, but ends up taking huge gouges out of the plot along with it, filling them up with the aforementioned OC tactician's past. At least a few characters take minor levels in jerkass (Lyn in particular is much more snappish and prone to anger), and said OC tactician is a God-Mode Sue who'd make a fool of bloody Lelouch in a strategic battle, and is badass in actual fighting to boot. Finally, several characters are unceremoniously and pointlessly killed off at the end.
    • TheAstronomicon Being fair here, the author cut out the turn-based axe-versus-swords of FE and replaced it with realistic-ish tactics applied to an actual medieval world, the pointless and unceremonious event at the end was called a Rearguard.

Wraith of the Lorca: Legend of Lyndis by SoloWing

  • Recommended by Calahad, The Giant Rock
  • Status: Complete: Book 1 of 3
  • Synopsis: A retelling of Fire Emblem 7: Rekka no Ken's Lyndis route. With the author taking several small liberties with the plot that adds an interesting twist to a story done to death.
  • Tags: Adventure/Drama
  • Comments: A retelling with interesting character interaction.

Origin of The Prince of Light by Scuttlest

  • Recommended by: Delfage
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: "All tales have their beginnings, all legacies have their roots. This is one such story, the origin of Marth, the Prince of Light. FE11/Shadow Dragon."
  • Tags: Adventure/Drama
  • Comments: While the fic has plenty of holes, the author can't write fight scenes too well, women get much too emotional, and there's way too much talking and comic book-style writing, the fic is still an excellent take on the events of FE11 with plenty of characterization, an excellent relief from all the Awakening run fics taking over the franchise. Just watch out for the Spotlight-Stealing Squad in the Wolfguard.

Dancing Shoes by Lemurian-Girl

A Garden of Our Own by Shimizu Hitomi

  • Recomended by: Pata Hikari

  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Saying goodbye is often too much like mourning. Ephraim, alone, the ideal king.

The Plight of the Lycia Alliance Army by Metadash

  • Recommended by Get_Salty, Animenutcase
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Eliwood has tasked his faithful servant Merlinus to guide and watch over his son and his army, but little did he know, he would end up being the only sane one there. A series of warnings and comments to each member of the group after every battle. FE 6, spoilers for both Elibe games. Inspired by Mistress Nika's Bleach fanfic "Please Stop Eating the Hell Butterflies." Total crack.
  • Tags: Comedy, Crack
  • Comments: Rapid fire crack comedy that has me rolling on the floor. Basically takes the characters of Binding Blade and turns them Up To Eleven on their traits. Merlinus hatred towards characters like Saul, Lalum, and Raigh are special highlights for me.

    Awakening
Snowed In! by signelchan
  • Recommended by Secret Agent 12
  • Pairings: Sully/Vaike, Lissa/Vaike, Lissa/Lon'qu, Maribelle/Frederick, Olivia/Chrom, Sumia/Robin
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: In this modern AU, officers of the law Vaike and Sully find themselves stranded high up in the mountains, far from any other people. With no chance of being rescued until after Christmas, the two will be forced to spend their time together. Alone. By themselves. With their love ones a snowstorm away. Nothing will go wrong, surely.
  • Tags: Romance, Modern AU
  • Comments: In a brilliant modernization of the lands known in Awakening, Snowed In focuses on two co-workers sent to the remote mountains for what is supposed to be a simple rescue mission. Unfortunately, a poorly timed blizzard makes this rescue mission anything but simple. With Christmas merely days away, and most of Ylisse being battered by snow, it doesn't look like anyone's holiday plans will be working out. With twists in the plot that throw the characters and their relationships for a loop, as well as the clever involvement of different Shepherds (and their lovely children), there's a little bit of something for everybody.

Blood of Dragons by Subatomic_grape

  • Recommended by InnerGlow
  • Pairings: Robin/Chrom, Sumia/Frederick, All others implied
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Ylisse carries a history of dragons, and stories whisper of their powers mingling with Exalts and Grimleal. To a prince and tactician they are only tales, until a fateful night burns away myth and makes it all too real. Together they will have to face down kings, conquerors, and what lurks in their own blood.

  • Comments: I have long looked for a novelization of the game that has a female Robin instead of a male and this one is just about what I was looking for! It is an AU so not exactly what I wanted but the idea and plot along with the excellent writing have made me fall in love with it. I couldn't get enough of it and am looking forward to more! (The chapters seem to update fairly frequently and are a decent length, making it one of my favorite Awakening fanfics.)

Potentia Amoris by Lux Aureus

  • Recommended by gone2ground,Robotortoise
  • Pairings: Avatar/Cordelia
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: Gangrel lies defeated, but the war for Ylisse has just begun. This story, focusing on the gaps in the story left by the missions of Fire Emblem: Awakening, sheds light on the male Avatar's personal life over the second half of the game.
  • Tags: Adventure/Romance
  • Comments: The writer has stated he dislikes requited love, so currently Cordelia is still in love with Chrom while the Avatar (Named Pyrrhus) is trying to get over a crush he has on her. Unfortunately, circumstances force him to interact with her. The writing is of excellent quality, with almost no mistakes. The only real issue I have with the fic as a whole is its pacing, although that's more of a personal preference than anything else. Check it out even if you dislike the pairing.

A Feather On The Wind by Woofemus

  • Pairings: F/F Sumia/Cordelia
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Sumia and Cordelia, from the past to the future, and the things in between.
  • Tags: Unrequited Love, Canon Compliant, Developing Relationship, Friendship/Love, Childhood Friends
  • Comments: A three-chapter story that, as the summary states, covers the main couple and their relationship as it evolves from friendship to love over the years. A fantastic yuri story that not only keeps everyone in character, but does a fantastic job of demonstrating how love can blossom from friendship, and shows good backstory such as how the two met and became friends. It has a good compact version of the main game's canon, and has some nods to game's mechanics.

25 Lives by SophroniaMiko

No Matter What The Future Holds by GhostPanda1314

  • Recommended by: Skybrigadier
  • Pairings: Robin/Lucina
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: A Princess fighting for her future. A Tactician with no past. Together, they find the one thing both longed for more than anything: happiness.
  • Tags: Fluff
  • Comments: An absolutely fantastic collection of fluffy vignettes all about the main couple as they develop their relationship, both within the context of the main story and afterwards- and despite some rough spots, generally keeps Lucina in character and makes Robin into a plausible love interest. Also features a hilariously written Papa Wolf Chrom and a shipper Morgan. A warning though: Some of the chapters can seriously tug at someone's heart.

Golden Threads Tie Us by magicasen

  • Pairings: Severa/Lucina, Chrom/Sumia and Cordelia/M!Robin in the background
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: How the bonds in Severa's life are broken, then rebuilt again. Takes place in the Future Past timeline.
  • Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon, Canon-Typical Violence, Sister-Sister Relationship
  • Comments: An emotionally intense story (as the Future Past tends to be) Severa deals with guilt over her sister Morgan's disappearance and realizing her feelings towards Lucina. I recommend this for everyone who ships Lucina/Severa.

Chisel by JumperthreeDS

  • Recommended by: Pegashush
  • Pairings: Robin/Lucina, Chrom/Sumia and others in the background
  • Status: Dead (Possibility of Resurrection)
  • Synopsis: A story of a young princess and tactician, whose destinies unknowingly intertwine on their way to carve out a fate of their own. A special retelling of Fire Emblem: Awakening. The story begins at the beginning of the Valm portion of the game, with 'Marth's' arrival.
  • Tags: Adventure/Romance
  • Comments: Interesting take on Robin/Lucina, the first few chapters are a bit rocky as the author attempts to establish Robin's personality and his relationships with the other characters, but it gets better by the time they reach Valm proper. Add onto that some interesting changes, such as Sumia and most of the first gen females actively trying to get Lucina and Robin together and having Morgan show up at the Mila Tree alongside Tiki with Lucina's outfit and only having memories of Lucina instead of Robin.

Letters for Cordy by drunkdragon

  • Recommended by OldBen
  • Pairings: Robin/Cordelia, Chrom/Sumia in the background
  • Status: Completed
  • Synopsis: It had been a year since Robin disappeared from the world and Morgan decided that enough was enough. It was time to see where the key led to.
  • Tags: Romance
  • Comments: Starting with Morgan opening a drawer with love letters her father was sending, it evolves into a two stories at once - one describing how Robin and Cordelia slowly fell in love, and the second showing her, her daughters, and to some extent, all the Shepherds dealing with the loss of their tactician. A sweet, touching fic with some minor deviations from canon(which I don't mind) and slightly anti-climactic ending(which I DO mind). As a shipper for these two, I might be biased, but I think it's a story worth reading.

  • Synopsis: Robin Grima is the daughter of Plegian President Validar Grima, currently living in Ylisse and practicing as a trauma surgeon. Chrom Exalt works for the Ylisstol Police Department, which is investigating the creeping effects of the Grima Syndicate and its expanding influence into Ylisse. Then one day they meet, and Robin hijacks Chrom's police bicycle to get to work. Hilarity Ensues, along with a budding romance between said By-the-Book Cop and Mafia Princess in the shadow of a foreboding mob war that may shake the city to its very foundation.
  • Tags: Rape/Non-Con, Romance, Organized Crime, Police, Slow Build, Humour, Dark, Awkward, Alternate Universe - Modern Setting, Swearing, Murder
  • Comments: When the author says "slow burn", she means it. But boy does the result really pay off. Characterization is excellent, with a take on Priam that you're definitely not going to find anywhere else, and the story manages to capture a very realistic feel of modern-day relationships and all the uncertainty that follows with unanswered texts, nosy friends, and drunken shenanigans. Chrom & Robin are probably the most adorkably awkward pair yet still somehow manage to smolder with unresolved sexual tension between them, all taking place against the backdrop of a dark and explosive setting involving dangerous secrets and a brewing gang war. And as if all that wasn't enough, Robin also has to come to terms with what she feels for her stoic protector Lon'qu and just how loyal she will be to her family and its evil activities.

The Autumn Wind's Song by Okaeri-Kairi

  • Recommend by: Sophiebybophie
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Chrom/Robin
  • Synopsis:
    • Discord: The neighboring countries of Plegia and Ylisse have been at odds for generations. But when he turns sixteen, Chrom is given a bride, a Plegian princess, to cement a new alliance between the former enemies. He soon finds that though their countries are ready to make peace, Princess Robin is determined to make their life as newlyweds a battlefield of its own.
    • How Much More: Grima doesn't understand why she's let him live. He's useless, not even good material for a servant. But she can't do it, she can't kill him, though she's tried countless times. There's something about his clear blue eyes that reminds her of something important she thought she'd abandoned long ago.
    • August Serenade: Robin has always hoped that when the war is finally over, she'll be able to tell Chrom how she feels. But when a beautiful dancer joins their ranks and it looks like Chrom might be smitten, Robin decides it's time to take fate into her own hands.
    • Imaginary Folklore: In order to save his dying sister, Prince Chrom has been sent on a journey to find the daughter of the God of Death, for only the taste of her blood can heal Lissa. Along the way, he's joined by a mysterious young woman who claims she can lead him to his destination, but can Chrom really trust her to bring him to the goddess he's looking for?
    • Dream Catcher: Going back to work after being a stay-at-home father for so long is tough, but Chrom doesn't mind if it's for the sake of Robin and their family. But when a single phone call threatens to tear his world apart, he'll have to reevaluate just why it is that he's working so hard in the first place.
    • Strawberry Swing: Lucina has never known her parents to fight. As far as she's concerned, it's almost sickening how well they get along. So when she receives an urgent text from her little brother saying that Chrom and Robin are threatening to split up, Lucina can't believe it; the very idea is ridiculous.
    • The Answer to My Question: Robin can't shake the feeling that something is wrong. Though she's supposed to be suffering from amnesia, everything about her time with the Shepherds gives her a sense of deja vu, especially when it comes to Chrom. Why does he feel so familiar, even though they've never met before? Why do all her dreams, no matter how varied, always involve him?

Two Years and a Fortnight by EarendilElwing

  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Cordelia's been following the questionable guidelines of a book on relationships in order to win Chrom's heart. Unfortunately, the prince is not the one who is falling for her.
  • Tags: Romance/Angst
  • Comments: I personally really like the story's characterization, and there's no moment that was unnecessarily OOC. The events and backstories matches well with canon, so if you are someone who prefers a story that doesn't stray too much from canon while still adding in fluff and filling in the pieces canon did not include, this is the perfect fanfic with you! The most of the time, the chapter starts with bits and pieces from "How to Make Him Fall for You in a Fortnight," a guide on romance that Cordelia owns, then she tries acting on it (hilarity ensures). Having both humor and touching moments are a big plus! Do be warned: the first half of the fanfic or so focuses on Cordelia's desperate crush on Chrom and how she realistically overcomes it while also giving Cordelia much-needed character development. There was a innuendo or two, though they're both lighthearted jokes, so there's nothing overly sexual. There are some minor typos here and there, but mostly it's unnoticeable. Nonetheless, it's a great read!

    • This fic is interesting because it really dissects the idea of Corrin marrying one of their adoptive Nohrian siblings and shows why it could work in the game's setting. It also portrays a somewhat more mature Elise; still funny and a bit childish, but doesn't come across as an actual child.

    • Even if Corrin x Flora isn't your pairing of choice, these drabbles are still good reads overall, plus it contains one of the cutest Kana and Corrin scenes in Chapter 18. The typos are annoying, but they are infrequent enough that they don't ruin the overall quality. -Karxrida

    • Thirded. Moments of comedy and heartwarming blend perfectly into an adorable sibling relationship, and despite not making an appearance (yet) their parents still have a background presence that lends itself to the familial feel. • Tags: Romance/Hurt/Comfort
  • Comments:
    • Fascinating enough to get a look at a Post-Conquest Hoshido, but Sakura herself is really interesting to follow. There's an air of discomfort in the whole thing, but in the atmospheric sense. Special note to Sakura's internal rant near the end of the first chapter. The romance is handled well too- not too fast, and works up to the point of being believable. If nothing else, it helped me to like the pairing.
    • If you were left unsatisfied by the apparent Easily Forgiven Nohrians in Conquest, this fic will sort that right out. The Nohrians' actions had consequences, and the Hoshidans are not as happy as they pretend to be. Sakura is angry and hurt over what they did to her country, and that is a real hurdle in her relationships with them, especially Leo and Corrin. It's a very well-done transition that doesn't demonize nor whitewash either country.
    • The story is really believable, and I love how the character relationship (especially the arc with Corrin) are presented and developed. The pacing is good, and there are barely any mistakes (I only caught one or two typos). The story feels like it can fit within canon well. It's a worthwhile read!

    • An excellent one-shot that delves into the inner conflicts behind the icy maid's professional mask. I thought the author really nailed Flora's character, that of a mere young girl whose various roles have placed numerous burdens on her shoulders. Flora's doubts and self-loathing are conveyed very well, as is her relationship with Corrin, enough that the ending might be a Tear Jerker for some.

  • Comments: An enthralling yet humorous take on the idea of Corrin and Azura getting married. Corrin and Azura have unresolved feelings, as do other couples, Love, jealousy, and possible betrayal is abound. Surprisingly fresh and original; it doesn't tiptoe over the big issues, either.

When Nohr and Hoshido go to war, four individuals find themselves torn between their hearts and their obligations. For Kaze, his choice to fight for Nohr has made him into a traitor back in his homeland, and his motives for doing so aren't as pure as he'd like to believe. For Laslow, the war means protecting someone important, though he soon finds his personal feelings getting in the way of his mission. And for Princess Azura, who has been forced to return to Nohr against her will, the longing for home is greater than she can bear. But Princess Corrin's burden is all the more difficult. In choosing Nohr, she's instigated a war against her family, against her adoptive father, and against the ever-present instinct of the dragon that lives in her blood. And when she starts to fall in love with the one person she shouldn't, the strength of her desires threatens to destroy her from within.

  • Comments: A really sweet series of one-shots exploring the impact Corrin's being a manakete has on her daily life, as seen through the eyes of everyone's favourite overthinking mage. This fic does an amazing job of expanding on all the perks and conflicts that would come with being a dragon, and showing how the Avatar and their family would adjust to all of it, which were oddly never touched on in the game itself. Some of these stories are angsty, some of them are meditative, some of them are just pure fluff, but they're all just lovely and add so much depth to Corrin's character.

  • Comments: Retells the story of Tatiana and Zeke's romance from when she finds him washed up on the shore up until after their recruitment by Alm. (Assumes that Alm's forces rescue Tatiana, of course.) Not only is it a great, well-developed and absorbing romance, it adds a lot of backstory for Tatiana that really works, and incorporates the few things we do know in canon extremely well. It also includes several original characters who are really done well (especially August), and adds a friendship between Rinea and Tatiana that is totally believable and enjoyable. Rating is Teen, so nothing too explicit.

  • Comments: A "what if?" story that examines what happens if Celica dies near the end of the game, allowing Faye to end up in a relationship with Alm. It gets pretty dark at some points, but the author does an extremely good job of portraying Faye's devotion to Alm and showing just what would've happened if she'd gotten her wish to be with him while sacrificing her desire to go back to Ram Village. A big Tear Jerker, and essentially a Be Careful What You Wish For scenario.

  • Comments: A hilarious story where everything about the plot of the game is entirely derailed because all of the students are hormonal young adults suddenly experiencing the concept of feelings and can't figure out how to express them to one another. The tags say the author reads too much shoujo manga and it absolutely shows; misunderstandings upon misunderstandings just keep piling up in cosmically implausible ways that you just can't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. And at the end of the day, it's also a feel-good story that doesn't dismiss the genuine tragedy that the characters in each relationship have gone through, and the misunderstandings end up being as heartwarming as they are funny. If you ever need a good palette cleanser after all the tragic stories this game provides, this is absolutely a great one to look for.

Most of the story takes place in between the major story events, but that only serves to give Byleth's interactions with each of the Golden Deer more development. • Pairings: Edelgard/Dimitri, background Claude/F!Byleth, background Sylvain/Ingrid
  • Synopsis: The tale of Dimitri and Edelgard's reconciliation and romance on a deserted island and their eventual return to society, consequences and all.
  • Comments: An AU series consisting of two main stories and a sidestory where Dimitri and Edelgard survive an assassination attempt by Those Who Slither In The Dark while out at sea which leaves them stranded on an island. During the first installment, Isle of Lords, Dimitri manages to coax Edelgard's memories back of their childhood friendship and rekindle their latent feelings for one another. The second installment, The Winds of Change, sees them return to a Fódlan that is struggling with power vacuums in Adrestia and Faerghus due to their presumed deaths, and attempting to forge a new path for the continent by manipulating those opportunities. Characterization is wonderfully accurate and the author manages to weave a very complex tale that diverges from canon in a skilled manner that feels incredibly natural. This is also the longest and most extensive Dimitri/Edelgard story ever written (most others tend to be one-shots or much shorter novella-style lengths), with the first installment clocking in at over 100,000 words and the second over twice as long.

Dorothea, in the height of her career with the Mittelfrank Opera Company, takes it upon herself to reunite the lost noble, 'Blue', with her family. As she helps Blue come to terms with her situation and her identity, a mysterious plot involving the Crest of Maurice unfolds.
  • Comments: A lovely soft romance between an especially uncommon pair that also explores transgender issues in a way that's gentle but somewhat involved; Marianne's general attitude of feeling like an unloveable monster certainly fits. In what is not a surprising twist if you know trans women who are fans of the game, this takes place in the Crimson Flower route, although while it ultimately agrees with Edelgard's wider plan it is critical of some of her actions, especially with regards to the Agarthans and her Flame Emperor identity. The romance is incredibly soft, loving, and fluffy, and all the major characters get a happy ending, regardless of canon.

  • Comments: You don’t need to know the myth for you to enjoy it, and it has some little references to Three Houses. The prose is dazzling and poetic, the dialogue is witty and charming, the characterisation is captivating and enjoyable. A few fairly lengthy chapters long, and it's structured really well. I was blown away by the chemistry of the leads as well as the strong sense of tone. This fic does not pull its punches (you will cry). While I used to feel that Eirika wasn't stoic and reserved enough, it's actually to the story's benefit: her giggling and being so carefree in general emphasises how relaxed she is around Forde, which given her burdens during canon is a necessity. The fic in general is very well-written, with the interaction in every chapter sounding more and more believable as the author grows into her style. • Comments: This story is what can basically be called the Fire Emblem version of Thirty Hs. The insane descriptions are absolutely brilliant, and bring some of this best laughs in Fire Emblem fanfiction. The way the story describes these insane metaphors in such a sophisticated manner makes the whole thing even more worth the read, and adds even more hilarity when the sophistication gets thrown out the window at the end. The short length of the story is also great for those after a quick read.

  • Synopsis: All Boyd wanted to do was offer his hand to Mist in marriage, but he never expected he had to eat his way to her heart... in a speed-eating match against Ike no less.
  • Comments: Ridiculously sweet and funny. Boyd and Mist is such an underrated couple and easily my OTP of Fire Emblem (hey, my avatar IS Boyd the Reaver, what did you expect?), and this fanfic really highlights why I love them so much, albeit in a funny, gross-out way. Everybody is completely in-character, and the events taking place is hilarious. I highly recommend this fanfic to anybody who's a fan of Boyd/Mist.

Hail the Marquess! A Fire Emblem Story by Spare Time Entertainment

  • Recommended by Scott Marshall
  • Pairings: Lyndis/Florina is the main one, with some Eliwood/Ninian and Raven/Lucius on the side
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Jubilation in Caelin! On the fourth anniversary of his ascension to the seat, the great Marquess Eliwood of Pherae is to be honoured on a night of celebrations hosted by his dear friend, the Lady Lyndis. But despite the lavish presentation for her honoured guest, Lyn's heart is torn. With her own lordship imminent and her seat of Caelin guaranteed, would-be courtiers are flocking like vultures - but the most heartfelt and unassuming one of all is Lyn's own dearly beloved Florina. Meek as ever, Florina would need a miracle - or a master plan - to win Lyn's heart. Fortunately for her, a familiar tactician just rode back into town...
  • Comments: A delightfully lighthearted romantic comedy, what really makes this one stand out is the unique worldweary, cynical characterization of Mark, a character too often ignored in Blazing Blade fics.

  • Pairings: Focuses on Seth/Eirika, but other pairings are stated or implied, such as Joshua/Natasha and Kyle/Syrene
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: When Seth is struck down in battle, he thinks for a moment that he might be dying. But what he wakes up to isn't the afterlife, it's... yesterday?
  • Comments: A "Groundhog Day" Loop romance is not the most common of premises, especially one that leans more on the dramatic side. But this ten-chapter story, taken from Seth's point of view, sought to create a heartfelt story, and it delivered. The story examines Seth's feelings for Eirika just before the final battle, and weaves a tale of love as he struggles to find a way to escape the time loop he is trapped in. With excellent characterization, solid pacing, and a plotline that hooks a reader despite the repetitive nature of the loop, this fanfic is definitely worth a read. Keep in mind, however, that there is some implied sexual content in the middle, although there is nothing explicit.

  • Pairings: Eliwood/Hector, with background Florina/Lyn and others
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Hector's entire world is his daughter. He doesn't have space for anyone else, and he's fine with that. And then Lilina's first-grade teacher turns out to be his former childhood best friend. That meeting digs up a lot of things Hector would have rather kept buried - from old scars to secrets with the potential to shatter his whole world. And, of course, it changes everything. Sometimes, though, change can be a good thing.
  • Comments: A Modern AU Fic that perfectly translates the setting and characters' roles—for example, Hector is a CEO, and Pent and Louise run an advanced K-12 school, which is attended by much of the cast of The Binding Blade—and delivers a delightfully tender and hesitant single dads romance along with it. And a surprising amount of plot adapted from the Elibe games!

    Fire Emblem Crossovers
When Tactics Collide by Koriember
  • Recommended by Robotortoise
  • Status: Dead
  • Crossover with: Awakening and Fates
  • Synopsis: When three armies- Nohrian, Hoshidan, and Ylissean- and their respective personalities join forces, chaos ensues.
  • Tags: Adventure
  • Comments: Fire Emblem Fates meets the world of Fire Emblem Awakening. It’s exactly as chaotic as you’d expect, which in this case, is a good thing! Very well-written, with dialogue getting a special emphasis, as would be expected. Character interactions and dialogue are really the heart of this, but the plot is surprisingly well-thought-out entertaining as well. Grima, in particular, is a show-stealer when he appears. Diverges from the timelines of both Awakening and Fates (duh!). Uses “Kamui” as Corrin’s Hoshidan name.
    • An expanded version titled When Houses Collide also exists, which sends an eight-person team led by Lucina to Fodlan on a Naga mission to save Rhea. Robin (male) and Corrin (female), plus Azura, Tiki, and Lucina's brother Laslow (indicating Chrom married Olivia), are also involved. The prologue indicates a fanfiction being written by Bernadetta as the starting point.

Corrin & Robin - Supports by Veymorak

  • Comments: What if Corrin could support with the Robin amiibo? Written in script format, as per the standard Awakening/Fates support style, yet has some very clever ideas and is about as humorous as you’d expect.

Into the Outrealms by The Repeat

  • Recommended by Robotortoise
  • Status: Dead
  • Crossover with: Other Fire Emblem games
  • Synopsis: It has been eight months since Grima fell. A missing person must be found in the Outrealms. Conflict, Einherjar, and adventure await.
  • Tags: Adventure/Drama
  • Comments: Sequel to 'Dissonance' which is recommended above. This story is a hidden gem that explores the concept of the Outrealms incredibly in-depth. Like its precursor, it takes some of the ideas presented in Awakening and takes them to their logical extremes. Dialogue is incredibly witty, contrasting with a serious story very well, and the overarching plot is very wide and even bigger than 'Dissonance'. Characters act very realistically, and Morgan is a highlight. Explores the state of mind and rules of Einherjar. It's also notable for being one of the few fics to feature Old Hubba as a main character.

  • Synopsis: Nerdboy falls into Fire Emblem. Nerdboy uses SCIENCE (dubiously) to solve problems. And when I say Science, I mean the kind that invariably happen when you give magic to someone who watches anime. Takes small elements across all of Fire Emblem universe.
  • Tags: Humor
  • Comments: A SI in the Awakening world, featuring occasional appearances from other FE characters. The SI uses improbable technological advancement as his primary weapon, but it's rather humorously hand-waved by technobabble that doesn't take itself too seriously. The blasé style of narration between the SI, author and the reader is refreshing, to-the-point and pretty funny.
    • Sorry, but I disagree. It's certainly entertaining if you shut off your brain, but... Between the blatant power fantasy (the author is well-revered in the Awakening world and everyone considers him a genius) and the ridiculous harem and sexualization (there's a segment where the main character goes into an Outrealm, and all the women in his harem wear cat ears and adore him), it's just stupid and unfun. And I'm not even going to start on the war scenes, which drag out for way too long and are much too elaborate. I'm all for self-aware crack and silliness, but this is certainly not self-aware. It reads like some neckbeard had a power fantasy and started writing about how much better and smarter he is than everyone else. In short, the fic is...well, if you're looking for SOMETHING to read, it's fine - otherwise, stay clear of this one. It's bad. - Robotortoise

Robin's Family Counselling (warning:refunds not accepted) by Chimebelle

  • Synopsis: Robin was annoyed. No. Actually, she very, extremely pissed, at Xander, Ryoma... in summary, at all of Corrin's siblings. Because what kind of brother or sister forced their loved one to choose one over the other? When it was absolutely obvious that such choice was tearing their precious princess apart? Corrin better be grateful for her interference.
  • Tags: Humor, Family, Godlike!Robin
  • Comments: There is some spelling, and grammar mistakes but I honestly didn't mind. This story is just so great! Basically Corrin is kidnapped by 'Grima' who is actually Robin, in a attempt to get Nohr and Hoshido to work together. But things don't always go the way you want them ;) SO Funny and I'm very excited to see where the Author is taking the plot!

What's in a Name by cesau

  • Status: Completed
  • Crossover with: Fire Emblem Fates and Fire Emblem Gaiden
  • Synopsis: The Corrinsexuals find a loophole in their curse and attempt to exploit it for all its worth.
  • Tags: Humor
  • Comments: One of the funniest fanfictions I've ever read. The premise is thus: The Fates "Corrinsexuals" (Flora, Scarlet, Izana, Gunter, etc.) all know that they can only copulate with Corrin - an invisible force prevents them from doing it with anyone else. Kamui, from Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, magically gets transported into the Fates world...and since he shares a name with Corrin (Kamui), the curse doesn't apply to him. So, naturally, all of the Corrinsexuals try to get into his pants, and chaos ensues. Everyone is in-character, and the ridiculous scenario is handled with relative sincerity, making it an absolutely fantastic read.

Now trapped along with a few others from their world, they must work together in order to deal with the Invisible Dragon. Good world-building and character interactions.

Nonetheless, he's found himself the only hope for Askr in their war against an empire that would subjugate every world there is - including his own. Whether he likes it or not, he has no choice but to become the legend they need him to be. Hopefully, the heroes he summons may be able to help him get there.
  • Tags: Adventure/Drama

Three Houses,Three Legends by Captain Jack X

Brought together for varying reasons, the three heroes must come together and unite if they hope to save the continent - and the Outrealms - from the brewing war.
  • Comments: Exactly what it says in the description. This fic is very well written; the author may be slow to update, but the quality of the chapters more than makes up for it. Seeing how Robin and Corrin interact with the people of Garreg Mach is brilliant as well. If you ever get the chance, check it out. You won't regret it.

Shepherding The Flock by Reverendswing

  • Recommended by Ajanisapprentice
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Crossover with: Fire Emblem: Awakening and Fire Emblem: Three Houses
  • Synopsis: A traveling Robin and Lucina land themselves in Fódlan after mentions of an isolated continent beyond a notoriously treacherous sea pique Robin's interest. In order to learn more about the place, seek out answers to some questions he has, and earn enough money to pay the local Anna for a trip back to Ylisse in one fell swoop, Robin comes up with what Lucina thinks might be his most ridiculous plan yet : get them hired as instructors at the Garreg Mach Officer's Academy. The students and staff at the monastery learn to deal with their two new oddball foreign instructors. Somehow, this is a good thing.
  • Pairings: M!Robin/Lucina
  • Comments:
    • Exactly as the synopsis says. Reverendswing is a masterful author, managing to juggle the many many characters of Three Houses whilst adding Robin and Lucina without any trouble. The interactions between the Three Houses cast and the two Awakening members are exquisite, everyone in Three Houses staying perfectly in character despite the incredible shakeup Robin and Lucina's mere presence brings. Meanwhile, Robin and Lucina themselves are wonderful. While they may seem slightly different from the canon game counterparts (especially Robin at times), it never feels truly out of character. Rather, the author writes them as we'd have likely seen them had Awakening had the same level of downtime and voice-acting as Three Houses; in essence Reverendswing expands upon the solid building blocks we had from Awakening to give us what Robin and Lucina look like when they aren't busy worrying about the fate of the world. On the topic of Robin and Lucina, their relationship is not the highlight of the story (it isn't a shipping fic) but it is very well written and always a delight to see for any Robcina shippers. This is also a bit of a word of wording to anyone who doesn't like the ship: it's not the focus of the story but it is prominent enough that it may bother you.
    • Additionally, this fic has some of the best worldbuilding I've ever seen in a Fire Emblem fic, especially in a crossover one. Explanations on the history of the world and how Fodlan is seperated from the Ylissean and Valmease continents (as well as the world as a whole) are given, discussions on the mechanics of magic, combat arts, skills and so on are present, deep dives into some bits of history like Gangrel's rise to power are provided as lessons to the young rulers. The attention to detail Reverendswing puts into things is astonishing, helping to make this one of the greatest fanfics I've had the pleasure of reading.
    • The fic itself has modest update speed as of recent, a chapter every month and a half to two months, but the quality more than makes up for this. It isn't beta-read, so there are some minor mistakes in grammar and spelling, though never does it even approach illegibility. While the story so far has stuck mainly to canon (this review is being written as of the 20th chapter's release which lines up with the post-Chapter 4/pre-Chapter 5 of Three Houses) this is only due to the fact that Robin and Lucina's arrival at the monastary was only a few weeks before the start of Three Houses and thus they've only been there for a handful of months. Reverendswing has said that their presence will cause some dramatic shakeups, which we've already begun to see some small hints towards. Expect a divergence from canon going forward.

Goddess of Wind, Thunder, and Fodlan by ReynaAtTheEnd

  • Recommended by: legomaniac90
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Crossover with: Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War and Fire Emblem: Three Houses
  • Synopsis: Ishtar would need a miracle to be freed from Julius's side. Tine needs a one-in-a-million chance to escape her tormentors. A mysterious spell that yanks both into the strange and unfamiliar world of Fodlan puts that chance into their hands. Will they be able to grasp it? How will the machinations of many be changed by the children of the Crusaders?
  • Comments: From the same author as The Savior King, the Master Tactician and the Queen of Liberation comes this tale that is just as well written as Savior King. Ishtar and Tine bounce well off each other and Byleth, and their confusion over Fódlan being much Lighter and Softer than Jugdral is portrayed excellently. Both Judgral and Fódlan are portrayed accurately, with Reyna capturing the tones of both lands perfectly. There’s even Adaptation Expansion that fleshes out most of the Jugdral characters like Loptuous and the Loptuous Cult. Well worth the read.

  • Crossover with: Everything, as it's a Fire Emblem Heroes fic, but with emphasis on Radiant Dawn
  • Synopsis: It is well-known that Branded cannot transform, and full-blooded laguz don't need transformation stones like the manaketes and beasts of other worlds. But what if these stones could still draw out the power in their blood? In which Soren finds out about his heritage in what might be the worst way possible: accidentally turning into a dragon.
  • Comments: A short yet nevertheless gripping fic with an interesting premise. It's very compelling to watch Soren come to terms with his heritage and get used to his dragon form, and his unlikely friendship with Ninian is surprisingly sweet. Though it's not the focus, there is some Ike/Soren, just to be aware. A fun read overall.

As the leaders of Fódlan attempt to restore the peace, they quickly find themselves entangled in a dangerous conflict that spans well beyond their country’s borders. Faced with sinister shadows, deathly magic, and the ghosts of their past, they must join forces with heroes from other worlds to fight against an ever-looming darkness… before they—and reality as they know it—are broken beyond repair. A crossover between Three Houses, Fates, and the entire Fire Emblem Universe.
  • Comments: Incredibly complicated plot but always keeps you invested in action, interactions, and high stakes. Updates are slow for now but it's very much alive.

There, with the help of the storied Ashen demon, he will trample the fine and delicate political balance of Fódlan and the many schemes interwoven beneath it. All for the sake of playing matchmakers, and worth it nonetheless.
  • Commentary: the first to third chapters are the weaker links of the story. Nonetheless the interactions between the characters are quite often times on point and brim with character and passion. I was particularly impressed by Dimitri's visions, which were quite more unsettling than the standard fare most authors do.

  • Tags: Adventure/Mystery
  • Comments: Probably one of the very few good Berserk fanfics I've read, and there isn't many to begin with. Guts is kept fairly well in character and is as awesome as he usually is. A very interesting concept, and one that should definitely be checked out if you enjoy both franchises.
  • Comments: I'd have to disagree with the above comment. Guts is not written nearly as strong as he should be with the Berserker Armor, there's a lot of grammar issues, and a plot point that appears in a later Chapter throws the lore of Berserk and Fire Emblem Awakening into the trash.

  • Comments: Scamming Cthulhu at it's finest. The jokes are great, the characterization is spot-on, and the whole fanfic is one giant love letter to both franchises as well as a clear nod to Creed. It's a damn shame the author is barely known, he's very creative, so I put in a recommendation for him. A great, funny and even heartwarming one-shot if you seek to escape the grimdark nature of Warhammer 40K.

  • Tags: Adventure/Friendship
  • Comments: Despite all the spelling errors, which may or may not have been corrected by now, This is a rather well-written story, and definitely worth looking into. While a few things that are written in confusing, everything written in has a purpose of some sort, often times it is why the character does this or that, and takes place immediately, and some have yet to be revealed. The pace varies throughout, of course, but often keeps a moderate pace, and has very little clunks in it, if any. Overall, this story is well written and a worthwhile read.

  • Comments: A very entertaining, very true-to-source Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney/Fire Emblem crossover. The main character, Robin, takes on Phoenix's role, and investigates and prosecutes cases just like the real deal in this Fire Emblem-themed mashup. Takes place in a modern alternate universe, yet the characters still refer to Naga, the Grimleal, etc. The cases are all very well thought-out and well written, as is expected of the genre.

  • Comments: Basically, Link becomes unsatisfied with his life in Hyrule and gets on a quest in search of adventures, eventually ending in Fodlan. The two universes are both well integrated so far, and there is a good insight in Link’s personality. It has only just begun, but it shows potential.

  • Crossover with: Persona
  • Synopsis: Byleth Eisner knew she was born a mercenary, she decided to live as a mercenary, and she assumed she would die a mercenary. The cards, however, told her that a different fate was in store for her, and meeting it would require the two skills she lacked in life: understanding people and understanding herself.
  • Comments: A great fic that places Female!Byleth as the Fool fumbling her way through human interaction while still being badass on the battlefield.

    • White Houses: Complete
    • Azure Moon: Coming soon
  • Crossover with: Zombie Land Saga
  • Synopsis: (Author's summary—) A weird and random crossover. When the members of Franchouchou, plus their zombie dog and manager, end up in Fódlan, they must attend the Officers Academy until they can find some way to get them home. Watch as Bernadetta tries to avoid being bitten by the Legendary Tae Yamada, Lily enjoys sweets with Lysithea, and Sylvain makes the wrong decision and flirts with Saga Jeune Ai Mizuno.
  • Comments: Surprisingly a fun time with strange character interactions between the casts. Support conversations and character moments are solid. Also has a little cute crossover ship that kinda works. Overall not too shabby.

Whom She Found by HylianHero5465

  • Recommended by AmityDreams
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Crossover with: The Legend of Zelda
  • Synopsis: Before the battle with Nergal, before the fight for Caelin, before her journey began, Lyn found a young man unconscious on the Plains of Sacae, only he wasn't a tactician or even from the same world.
  • Tag: Adventure
  • Comments: Probably one of the best crossover stories I've had the pleasure to stumble across; to put it simply, it's an adaptation of The Blazing Blade but with the Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask incarnation of Link replacing the tactician. While there are grammar issues, long paragraphs, and Link can be OP at times, it's a surprisingly solid read for a fanfic that's been ongoing for over 15 years with slow updates. With exceptional character interactions, well-done action and suspense, and comedy scenes giving a balance to the story's seriousness, it's worth checking out if you're hoping to find a good crossover between these franchises.

An Awakening in Cold Steel by YuShaJi

  • Recommended by SilentScreamer99, GarthSerca, Deegeetal
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Crossover with: The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel
  • Synopsis: Morgan starts her new life as a student at Thors Military Academy. Naturally, she finds herself in the middle of a growing crisis.
  • Comments: While admittedly leaning more towards the Trails side than the Fire Emblem side, the author deserves major props for the way they were able to seamlessly weave Morgan into the Trails universe, and considering how the Trails games are infamous for having a tightly-knit narrative that leaves no stone unturned, that is saying a lot. Morgan still retains the aspects of her personality that made her endearing in her Awakening, but now there's an air of intrigue floating around her since her past is only shown through flashbacks. The first several chapters have a case of Early-Installment Weirdness, as the author was trying to find their footing at the beginning, but once it starts reaching original content separate from the main game's storyline, it becomes an engaging read.

Demon in Fodlan by Mundatorem

  • Crossover with: Fate/Grand Order

Despite the rather unusual nature of it, he finds himself disappointed that he see's much of the same human nature that he saw on Earth. Determined to discover what it was that made human life worth the struggle, he decides to use his second chance to find the meaning of his own life.
  • Comments: After being defeated by Fujimaru, Goetia ends up stranded on Foldlan. Under the disguise of Solomon, he decides to observe humanity once more when he senses unknown magic being cast, leading him to meet Byleth and the three House Leaders in Remire Village. Soon the one-armed mage becomes the librarian assistant in the monastery as he tries to solve its mysteries which has intrigued him...

Outlaw Knight by Ernestrunningaway

  • Crossover with: Red Dead Redemption II
  • Synopsis: Defeated by his nemesis, abandoned by the man he gave his life to, and dying from his ravaged lungs, Arthur Morgan was certain his time was at an end as he looked to the dawn one last time. But through the will of fate, or some silent, unknowable power, he awoke to a foreign land, tended to by strangers. Among them, none baffled him more than this cobalt-haired girl with a sword...
  • Comments: This is one of the last kind of crossovers I'd imagine anybody making, but honestly? The author makes the premise really work, especially with how the characters interact off each other. Arthur and Byleth's interactions together are the highlights of the fic so far, and I look forward to seeing where the author goes with this story once it really gets started.

  • Crossover with: The Legend of Zelda
  • Synopsis: One day, the students of Garreg Mach disappeared without a trace. Two weeks later, they returned, having spent three years in Hyrule. This is their story.
  • Comments: From the writer of The Miracle of Life comes another incredible piece. Watching the main characters on their adventures in Hyrule has proven to be a very entertaining experience, even if at the moment I feel that Link is being overshadowed by the colourful characters of Three Houses. Nevertheless, I'm excited to see what awaits them all as the story goes on, and how their experiences will effect the future of Fodlan upon their return.

Professor Joker by 0n3dge

  • Crossover With: Persona 5
  • Synopsis: It was going so well. They'd won. They'd stolen the world back... So why is Joker's reward another world on the brink of ruin? Crests? Magic's real here? And now teaching? Next you'll say the Metaverse is here in Fódlan as well... Okay, that was sarcasm but sure, why not? A Phantom Thief's work is never easy, or ever done it seems
  • Comment: Just as the final battle was over, Ren and Morgana found themselves at Fodlan, encountering Jeralt and Byleth. While Byleth and Ren choose Black Eagle house, the first two new Phantom Thieves in this new world were the Golden Deer's Claude & Lysethia.
