A Completed Fic Doorstopper in the style of Déjà vu no Jutsu, Catch Your Breath, and Dreaming of Sunshine, Vapors by ElectraSev5n is an OC Self-Insert story that details the life and trials of Naruto Uzumaki’s twin sister, Aiko Uzumaki.

The first-born by a few minutes, Aiko Uzumaki did not become the Kyubi jinchuriki because she was spirited to safety by her godmother Mikoto Uchiha, who was present to support her best friend and help handle the twins. Unfortunately, the Uchiha Lady being the sole survivor of the attack only puts more suspicion on the clan, so Mikoto isn’t allowed to help raise her god-children.

Aiko and Naruto grow up alone and under-supported, but because Aiko has some memories from a past life and an adult’s comprehension level, she cares for Naruto as best as she can while also undergoing her own training, because she Will Not allow Naruto to go through all the suffering of canon.

Unfortunately, the Ripple Effect can have strange consequences…

Vapors contains examples of:

• Actually Pretty Funny: Inverted/Averted in the time-travel arc. Naruto and Sasuke, attempting to blow off steam and break the tension, tease Aiko about the time she was captured and almost vivisected by Sasori and her resulting hatred of puppets. It isn’t until Tsunade and Jiraiya rake them over hot coals and make clear exactly how close she came to horribly dying that they realize how inappropriate they were.
• Adaptational Badass:
  • Due to being found by the Third Hokage and adopted into the Uzumaki Clan as well as studying under Anko, Karin here is capable of holding her own with Sasuke in combat and is often paired with him on missions.
  • In canon Konan got caught by Jiraiya, acted as support during Pain’s attack on Konoha, and got killed by Tobi. Here she demonstrates exactly why she’s The Dragon.
• Adaptational Villainy: The Tsuchikage in canon was gruff and crotchety hardass who didn’t appear to hold much of a grudge against the Leaf or the Fourth Hokage. Here he’s a lot more bitter and antagonistic.
• All Just a Dream: Inverted. Aiko is rather traumatized when the drugs wear off enough for her to realize that being kidnapped by Sasori is not a fever dream.
• Aloof Ally: The Mizukage averts this out of necessity. She knows that if she wants to survive then she has to bind her village to the Leaf-Sand Alliance for the long term.
• Amazon Brigade: Downplayed. Once it is fully formed, the Uzumaki Clan consists of three females, and one male who spends three years out of the village. There's also the all-female team of Anko, Hinata, Karin, and Shizune sent to Nadeshiko.
  • Also, the allied village of Nadeshiko is all kunoichi.
• An Arm and a Leg:
  • Hinata ends up facing Gaara in the Chunin Exam Preliminaries and comes within seconds of losing her arms.
  • Deidara and Aiko both nearly lose a leg each when they fight.
• Asshole Victim: Most of Akatsuki, and Danzo once Tsunade and Aiko finally move against him.
• Asskicking Leads to Leadership: While this plays a part in selecting a Kage, the Fourth Raikage is used as an example of why using this as the only requirement can end badly.
• The Atoner: Kakashi tries to be this, but is so awkward that he sometimes tries to atone for something by giving up so he can stop ruining the person’s life.
• Attractive Bent-Gender: Although it happened later than canon, Naruto still invents the Sexy Jutsu to invoke this. Except he bases this version on Aiko.
• Awesomeness by Analysis: It doesn’t come up often, but Aiko is very good at this due to information learned from her previous life. She deciphers and masters the Hiraishin to a level even Minato couldn’t, is responsible for most of the plans that take down Akatsuki members, and studies the math of Danzo’s Root seal until she can remove and reapply it effortlessly.
• Badass Family: Three members of the Uzumaki clan have studied under a sannin or their student while clan head Aiko is Kakashi’s apprentice and was considered an S-class threat before turning seventeen.
• Batman Gambit: When Tsunade agrees to help Mist make a new jinchuriki as part of their alliance she knows that Danzo will try to interfere, so she sets it up so that if he succeeds, they get a new weapon, but when he preferably fails the Mizukage will find information implicating Rock or Cloud and trust the Leaf more.
• Berserk Button: Do not hurt one of the twins in front of the other. Also, reminding Aiko of the time she got a teammate’s throat torn out is a bad idea.
• Beware the Nice Ones: Chouza Akimichi was on Minato’s Anbu team.
• Beware the Silly Ones: Aiko usually has no problem going off and joking around, but she’s also an acknowledged prodigy who has taken down Akatsuki members and jinchuriki alike as well as earning an S-rank threat level before age 17.
• Big Brother Instinct: Naruto has this towards Aiko as much as she does towards him.
• Big Damn Heroes:
  • Aiko shows up to help Gaara fight Deidara.
  • Deconstructed earlier, when helping Anko track down Orochimaru’s fight only results in him getting serious and ripping out Sakura’s throat.
• Bilingual Dialogue: In-universe, Aiko still speaks English, and has taught it to Naruto as their twin-speak that no one else knows.
• Book Dumb: Aiko actually recognizes Naruto’s problem as resembling what might be dyslexia, except that hasn’t been discovered in the Elemental Nations. Since doctors don’t know what it is, she reads textbooks aloud to him whenever she can.
• Boring, but Practical: Early in her genin career, Aiko reflects that basic conditioning is like this, as elite ninja like Kakashi and Itachi make simple kunai and stealth extremely deadly. Taking it far enough, she could (like Gai) become a legendary ninja without ever learning another ninjutsu, but she’d die for sure if she couldn’t dodge a knife in a fight.
• Brainwashed and Crazy: Tobi does this to Kabuto after Orochimaru’s death.
• Break the Haughty: Aiko and Tsunade do this to Shimura Danzo with great pleasure.
• Broken Pedestal: Tsunade sees the Third Hokage as this when he tells her the truth about the Uchiha Massacre.
• Brought Down to Normal: When the Akatsuki captures Aiko Uzumaki they invoke this by having Kisame drain her chakra to almost nothing.
• Character Development: Naruto matures, Aiko freezes over and then thaws again, Sasuke becomes more personable and patient, and Hinata’s teacher makes her much more self-assured.
• Chef of Iron:
  • Aiko does most of her family’s cooking.
  • While the only thing Kisame can cook is sweet rice pudding, he makes lovely salads.
• The Chessmaster: Tsunade repeatedly reminds us that she is not only a deadly and genius kunoichi, but she was also raised the granddaughter, great-niece, and heir of two village leaders, and thus practically has politics in her blood.
• Combat Medic: In addition to canon ones, Sasuke.
• Combat Pragmatist: Aiko. She beats Zabuza by hitting him with a lightning jutsu even though it will also hit Kakashi, invokes Naruto’s Roaring Rampage of Revenge on Gaara by purposefully getting hurt, and overwhelms a team of 8 Cloud jonin with ridiculous ease by using speed and shock tactics.
• Comically Missing the Point: Aiko is a stereotypical genius in that she has very low social IQ, and despite faking it well she’ll often miss obvious cues. On her date with Tenten she misses the significance of Tenten taking them off the path to an isolated clearing, laying on the grass and touching, and Tenten eating a mint and clicking it around her teeth. It takes the explicit “So, do you want to make out?” to get the idea.
• Completed Fic: At over 600,000 words and 103 chapters, with a sequel that is over 200,000 words.
• Cool Teacher: Aiko thinks this of Kakashi, describing him as one of the most awesome people in the world.
• Curb-Stomp Battle: First when Aiko fights 8 Cloud jonin, including C and Yugito, and she completely humiliates them. Then when Fu loses control of her Biju Aiko takes about five seconds to wrap her in chains, which is longer than she needed against an infiltrator.
• Cuteness Overload: Naruto pouting or almost any dog (especially Pakkun) can inspire this in Aiko.
• Dangerous Forbidden Technique:
  • Nagato’s Rinne Tensei is this if he isn’t very careful.
  • There are about a dozen safeties built into Hiraishin to keep it from being this. But using it while bleeding in the brain is still a bad idea.
• Darker and Edgier: While there are still times of peace and fun, even before the first Wham Episode the sudden deaths of Haku and Zabuza signaled where the story was going.
• Deliberate Values Dissonance: According to Kakashi, same-sex relationships are usually much more common among the (stereotypically uptight/conservative) civilians than the ninja because of politics requiring shinobi to marry off and produce young to replace the previous generation when they’re killed at 22 or so.
• Denied Food As Torture: When captured by the Akatsuki, Aiko is denied food both to make her more pliable and to keep her from recovering her chakra and escaping. She breaks out literally under her warden’s nose and takes two captured jinchuriki with her.
• Determinator: Not always in a good way, as Aiko has been conditioned to keep working through the most difficult circumstances without help, even when she really should get assistance instead.
• Didn't See That Coming: Although she quickly realizes that Aiko must be planning something, Tsunade did not expect Sai to walk into her office and announce his desire to defect from and sell out Root.
• Dirty Old Man: Jiraiya obviously, but he’s overjoyed that Aiko is following in his footsteps by reading Icha-Icha, flirting, and endorsing his habits.
  • He turns out to be Not So Shameless when he has to look at Aiko unclothed and it makes him cringe and whimper in awkwardness.
• Distracted by the Sexy:
  • Naruto doesn’t develop his Sexy Jutsu until later in the story while training with Jiraiya, but when he does he bases it on Aiko instead of himself.
  • Deidara's death is partly caused because he got distracted by a half naked Aiko teleporting on his lap during his fight with Gaara and taking advantage of the distraction by throwing them both from the flying clay bird.
• The Dreaded: Along with the many canon examples, Aiko makes a name for herself such that Fu, the seven-tails jinchuriki, is very anxious and snappish about being in the same room as specifically her, even with almost a dozen other A- or S-rank ninja present.
• Dude, Not Funny!: To break the tension on a mission, Naruto and Sasuke tease Aiko about her phobia of puppets, which comes from a time when Sasori captured and almost vivisected her.
• Entertainingly Wrong: Konan concludes that Aiko uses something that is not the Hiraishin but just called the same for intimidation purposes, for admittedly good reasons.
• Epic Fail: When Aiko is captured by Akatsuki she explains to her jailor Kisame that she’s going to escape and take the other prisoners with her, and that no, having no chakra, no weapons, no idea where the others are, and bleeding in her brain are not going to stop her. She lies about her precise methods, but she then proceeds to do just that while literally within arms’ reach of him.
• Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Konan for Pain, Rin for Tobi, and Danzo doesn’t love a person but rather the entire village of Konoha.
• Even Evil Has Standards: Surprisingly, Suigetsu's narration in Clarity has him commenting that if he found the leader of Akatsuki was a pedophile, he'd kill the man. Not that he wasn't already planning that, but it's implied he would take action even before his plans firmed up if it was true. (Of course, since this is the leader of Akatsuki, he's way out of his league, but it's the thought that counts).
• Even Super Perverts Have Standards: Despite being the biggest pervert in the land Jiraiya is disgusted at the thought of being turned-on by Aiko. Naruto’s Aiko-based version of the Sexy Jutsu horrifies him, and when Aiko gets a seal stuck on her chest he complains that she should’ve put it on her stomach because these are breasts that he never wanted to see.
• Eye Scream: Done to Danzo when he is captured.
• Face–Heel Turn: Averted. Not only does Sasuke never defect to Orochimaru, but neither does Karin, who instead ends up adopted into the Uzumaki.
• Failure Is the Only Option: At the end of the first chapter, Mikoto is determined to find some way to care for her god-children despite the Hokage’s prohibition. We know she makes a good effort throughout their Academy years, but then the Massacre happens…
• Fatal Flaw: Aiko’s intelligence and Determinator habits mean that she tries to do things on her own even when she shouldn't. Part of her Character Development is learning to get help and approval for the important things.
• Fiery Redhead: Not so much Aiko, but the Mizukage turns it up to eleven when angry, as for a lava user “boiling rage” can be quite literal.
• First-Name Basis:
  • Aiko reflects on how abnormal it must be for other people to realize that she has this with three different Kages.
  • Fish, her Anbu team leader, is originally a touch bitter that he got handed such a young rookie, believing it to be a slight on his abilities. He then has a hilarious Oh, Crap! moment in chapter 70 when they report to Tsunade after capturing an infiltrator, and the Hokage immediately greets Aiko by name and personally heals her minor injuries.
• Flat "What":
  • Tsunade pulls off an epic one (with three lines of epillepses before and after it, just to make it pop out) when Aiko admits she's Hot for Teacher.
  • A far less humorous one when Danzo gives Aiko the code name of 'Sakura', as a reminder of Sakura's 'weakness' that led to her death. Thankfully, Aiko manages to keep it internal.
• Flechette Storm: The Shuriken Shadow Clone jutsu is such an impressive version of this that serious-mode Aiko actually squees and begins begging to be taught it.
• Foreshadowing:
  • Nagato describes the Rinne Tensei as resurrecting the body and spirit the way they should be, which hints at the complication that pops up with Aiko. Previously, the nature of Tobi’s growing obsession with Aiko also foreshadows what he does in the last chapter to take advantage of the complication.
  • Earlier, Shizune is waiting for blood work from “an academy student of dubious parentage” in her office while telling Anko to get a student. Both the child and Anko’s search for a student have surprising outcomes.
• For Want Of A Nail: There are some insane breaks from canon that leave people dead, alive, or of different opinions than expected. See the Wham Episode entry.
• Fragile Speedster: Aiko is this to a degree, but she can take a hit if she has to.
• From Bad to Worse: First Kumogakure is on the brink of declaring war against the Leaf, then Akatsuki attacks an international peace conference, kidnaps two jinchuriki, and frames Aiko for it while kidnapping her so she can’t prove her innocence.
• The Gadfly: Aiko has elements of this and a filthy vocabulary learned from Anko.
• Generation Xerox: Invoked by the Third Hokage, Jiraiya, and others, because Minato and Kushina’s kids are too skilled not to pass the techniques onto. Notably, Aiko acknowledges the logic in this but still hates being compared to people she doesn’t consider to be her parents.
• Gone Horribly Wrong: Sending Naruto, Sasuke, Yamato, and Aiko on a mission to capture a chunin-level missing ninja was supposed to be overkill in order to give Aiko a badly needed vacation. Instead, they end up accidentally time-traveling back 20 years into enemy territory with no sure-fire way to return.
• Guile Hero: Aiko, being a Badass Bookworm. Her Xanatos Speed Chess against Danzo is impressive, except that she slightly outsmarts herself.
• Gut Punch: Sakura Haruno’s death happens with no foreshadowing at all, in a part of the story that is usually strictly formula, and changes the plot in massive ways.
• Happily Adopted: Hinata is adopted into the Uzumaki Clan.
• Heel Realization: There are several times when people have to realize that they’ve misjudged or unwittingly wronged Aiko, such as when she loses her temper at Kakashi for the only time ever after he tries to teach her the rasengan.
• Heroic BSoD:
  • After the incident mentioned in Gut Punch the entire team is in shock for a while. Kakashi in particular drops back into ANBU to avoid thinking or feeling.
  • Aiko spends chapters 76-79 continuously on the verge of one after she gets dropped into a ridiculous situation that never appeared in the manga and worse off has to guide her brother and Sasuke through it with no idea of what’s going on.
• Heroic RRoD:
  • Ordinarily Aiko can use Hiraishin as easily as breathing. Using it when she has an aneurism leaves her nearly dead and comatose for two days.
  • Aiko’s run-in with Sasori leaves her badly traumatized; later, trying to keep up with her regular missions, ANBU missions, and her work in Root as The Mole leaves her exhausted and on the verge of breakdown.
• Hero of Another Story: Half the time, Naruto is having his own adventures separately.
• Heterosexual Life-Partners: Karin and Hinata may be this, or may be in a relationship. Karin is confirmed as bisexual but Hinata is left just a little ambiguous.
• He Who Fights Monsters: Danzo is what happens when a former hero hits this and keeps going.
• Hidden Depths:
  • The rest of the cast sees the full extent of Aiko’s intelligence as this, as they didn’t even realize that they didn’t know how smart she was until Tsunade and Inoichi put their heads together about it.
  • Also, Gai and Lee are both fond of Ikebana and carnival games.
• Hoist by His Own Petard: Due to dropping some clay, Deidara accidentally blows up his own leg when attacking Sand.
• Honor Before Reason: Aiko’s adherence to her version of this eventually gets her the respect of 4 of the five Kages and is what convinces Fu and Yugito, as well as the Raikage later of her sincerity when she rescues them at great personal risk despite it being much easier to escape on her own.
• Hot for Teacher: Aiko for Kakashi. It is not played for laughs, and causes her considerable embarrassment and stress.
• Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Aiko can use her chakra chains for this, but usually prefers blunt force trauma. Later, by way of apology for his Heel Realization, Kakashi develops and teaches her a water-release version of his chidori.
• I Need a Freaking Drink: Aiko, first after a prison escape forces her to kill helpless prisoners, and then after her Jumping Off the Slippery Slope event.
• Insistent Terminology: Aiko refers Kakashi as “shishou” and gives no one else the title; she snaps at Jiraiya when he brings it up while teaching her sealing.
• In Vino Veritas: Invoked by Shou to feel out Aiko for potential recruitment into Root.
• Irony:
  • Emphasizing Sasuke and Naruto’s potential romantic feelings is the fact that Karin and Hinata—the girls who were their most fervent suitors in canon—are mostly uninterested in the boys because they appear to be dating each other.
  • Chapter 48 is titled In Which Danzo is Blamed for Something He Didn’t Do (For Once) and deals with exhuming Sasuke’s family and discovering that their eyes were taken (Tobi did it, but no one else knows that).
• It's Personal: Aiko treats the Akatsuki as this because they threaten her brother. Also, she originally wants to eliminate Danzo due to plot reasons and general dislike, but after he makes a crack at Aiko’s My Greatest Failure she resolves to ruin him.
• Jerkass Has a Point: While Aiko thinks Danzo is a monster and wants him dead, she agrees that some of Tsunade’s policies are flawed and Konoha needs black-ops like Root. She just thinks that Danzo goes too far and is unnecessarily cruel.
• Jumping Off the Slippery Slope: Aiko takes advantage of a year of being on a team with Shou to murder him when he tries to get her help during the sting operation against Danzo.
• Kick the Dog: Like many other traditional clans, the Hyuuga are sexist enough not to let women form their own family branches even if they can inherit. Thus, Hinata being branded with the Caged Bird Seal is this, as usually neither she nor Hanabi would be subject to it no matter who the heir was.
• Killed Off for Real: Zabuza and Haku, Sakura Haruno, Orochimaru, Deidara and Sasori, Killer B, and Danzo all get this treatment.
• Kind Hearted Cat Lover: Aiko and Naruto take in a cat named Smaug and Karin, Hinata, and Sasuke all take care of him at one point or another.
• Klingon Promotion: Aiko accidentally pulls this on herself when she kills Danzo and steals his seal. His other followers think she’s his chosen successor.
• Knight in Sour Armor: Sasuke
• Knight Templar: Danzo is this. He is a callous and jaded monster, but his cruelties are (in one way or another) for the betterment of the Leaf and its shinobi. When he lies dying, he refuses to flee Konoha, but begs Aiko to have Tsunade alter the explosive seal on his chest so that his death doesn't cause collateral damage.
• Laser-Guided Karma: The Raikage laughs off Leaf and Sand’s warnings about the Akatsuki as paranoid fear-mongering and personal problems respectively. He stops laughing when Akatsuki kidnaps and kills his brother Killer B.
• Let's You and Him Fight: When Konoha tries to spread warnings about Akatsuki, they retaliate by setting this up between the five great nations.
• Living Weapon: All jinchuriki.
• Long-Lost Relative: Karin is this to the twins. Also, Nagato, though no one knows it.
• Luke, I Am Your Father: Inverted in the Time-Travel Arc. Minato quickly realizes that Naruto is probably his son, but it takes much longer for it to click that Aiko is his daughter.
• Making a Splash: Aiko is a water element and knows several ninjutsu. Also, because she didn’t want Naruto to be traumatized by Mizuki, she taught him the Water Clone technique so that he could pass the graduation exam.
• Memetic Badass: In-Universe, Aiko’s reputation is beginning to outstrip her skills.
• Mind Rape: Aiko gets put under the Tsukiyomi by Itachi.
• The Mole: Tsunade has Aiko serve as her Mole in Root by pretending to be Danzo’s mole in her camp, and Aiko later convinces Sai to also turn double-agent against Danzo.
• Mood Whiplash: Setting the tone for the rest of the story, the first chapter moves from Kushina giving birth and holding her son to Tobi murdering Biwako and holding Naruto hostage as Mikoto desperately races to the Hokage Tower with Aiko.
• Mundane Luxury: Whenever she doesn’t have a mission and really wants to relax, Aiko indulges in the glitter-laced, vanilla scented shampoos that Karin favors.
• Mundane Made Awesome: Hinata fills out paperwork to renounce the Hyuga name, and at the court hearing to approve it she tells her father “Fuck you,” before thanking him for his time.
• Mundane Utility: Aiko commonly uses Hiraishin, an S-rank jutsu that made her father into a One-Man Army, to deliver messages and skip long, boring journeys.
• My God, What Have I Done?:
  • Aiko feels guilty for every bad thing that happens because she views her presence and actions as the cause.
  • Tsunade has this reaction when she realizes that assigning Aiko to infiltrate Root put her in a position where she was forced to murder her own teammate in cold blood, despite the man trusting her.
• Necessarily Evil: Nagato feels this way about Akatsuki’s methods and employees. He dislikes that Sasori would kidnap as bait a person who technically doesn’t need to die for peace, but rationalizes that he has to let his operatives fulfill the mission.
• No, Mr. Bond, I Expect You to Dine: The sting operation against Shimura Danzo is kicked off with a meeting at a restaurant between him and four clan heads.
• "Not Making This Up" Disclaimer: Yes, in the story Sasuke studies pediatrics and willingly spends time with children, Hinata swears at her father in public, Jiraiya asks a nubile girl to please put more clothes on, Naruto out-logics Jiraiya in an argument, Kakashi abandons his team, and Danzo tries to give the Uzumaki twins more political power than they’re comfortable with. While being completely in-character. It Makes Sense in Context.
• Not So Stoic:
  • On missions Aiko is usually serious and all business, but there are several times where she breaks this, such as her Squee at the Shuriken Shadow Clone.
  • Kisame is surprised when Pain orders them to forget their mission and get back to Headquarters immediately, and later is visibly emotionally distraught.
• Obfuscating Stupidity: Aiko did this through the Academy in an attempt to stay with Naruto, but the teachers caught on. Later though, Tsunade reviews some reports and wonders if Aiko had been hiding her real intelligence even more than they had assumed.
• Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Many of Naruto’s missions that Aiko isn’t on, but the crowner has to be when Jiraiya and the Sandaime team up to kill Orochimaru.
• O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Played variously for laughs and drama.
  • Laughs: Team Gai is first freaked out by Aiko asking Tenten on a date out of the blue, and then when they mention this to Tsunade she excuses herself and steps out on the veranda, leaving them unattended in the Hokage’s office, whereupon she breaks down howling with laughter until she actually chokes and gags.
  • Drama: Tsunade nearly breaks down crying when she has to explain to Kakashi that no, he can’t ask the Third Hokage about who raised the twins when they were young. Why? He’s going senile, and if you ask him about Aiko he’ll fumble around for a few minutes before deciding that you must mean “little Kushina-chan” and explaining how he’s been tutoring her if fuinjutsu recently.
  • Aiko is usually very focused and serious on the clock. Why is she acting so empty-headed and ditzy? Because her fight with Konan gave her an aneurism.
• Overshadowed by Awesome: Played with. Aiko protests Tsunade’s assertion that she’s ready for a jonin promotion because Kakashi and Yamato always kick her around in spars. Tsunade reminds her that they are among the strongest ninja in the village, and can kick around most veteran jonin, never mind a chunin they trained.
• Paper-Thin Disguise: Konan doesn’t bother with a disguise at all, she just waltzes into an international conference on the subject of opposing the Akatsuki using her real name and face. Because no one except Aiko knows that she’s one of Akatsuki’s founding members as well as a leader of Rain, it works perfectly.
• Parental Abandonment: Aiko has shades of this towards Minato and Kushina. She hates when people compare her to them because she’s not them and she doesn’t consider them her parents; Aiko points out she’s been more of a mother to Naruto than either of them.
• Power Perversion Potential: Downplayed, but it’s brought up that Hiraishin would make it ridiculously easy to have an affair with someone in another village.
• Precision F-Strike: Hinata gets better at this after training under Anko. The defining moment is outlined in Screw This, I'm Out of Here! when she calmly drops an f-bomb to her father’s face.
• Promoted to Parent:
  • Aiko feels that she was this with Naruto.
  • Sasuke finds out that Itachi missed a then-unborn, illegitimate child during the Massacre. And with her parents’ deaths he is now partly responsible for her.
• Reasonable Authority Figure:
  • Tsunade.
  • Even if a memory-wipe jutsu made him forget the details, Minato’s subconscious reaction to the idea that future!Kakashi is sleeping with his daughter is to ask them to wait until she turns seventeen.
• Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Aiko invokes this during the Chunin Exams Invasion. Naruto, due to changes to the timeline, hasn’t had experience at using the Kyubi’s chakra before, so she purposefully takes a hit from Gaara to make him react.
• Screw This, I'm Out of Here!:
  • Whenever Sasuke comes upon an awkward situation he has developed the habit of using Substitution with a potted plant to escape.
  • On a more political note, Hinata gets fed up with her family’s denigration and abuse and casts away her clan name.
• Secret-Keeper: Too many to easily count.
• Secret Secret-Keeper: Subverted. When Itachi tortures Aiko for information with Tsukuyomi she spills more than she realizes/remembers. But with her foresight, he thinks she’s prophetic, not from a different universe.
• Sexy Discretion Shot: Aiko has a downplayed one of these with Sai from Root. While it’s clear that they didn’t have sex, something happened that’s distracting her later on.
• Shipper on Deck: Aiko is responsible for introducing the phrase “shipping” to this world when she admits to shipping Asuma and Kurenai and others ask what it means. Tsunade appears to ship Aiko and Sasuke.
• Ship Tease: Aiko gets it with Sasuke, Tenten, Kakashi, and maybe even Fu and Gaara at various points. Also, Hinata and Uzumaki Karin have implications of this, and maybe more.
• Sibling Yin-Yang: Naruto here is still his regular Messianic Archetype Idiot Hero self, loud and friendly with unbelievable chakra reserves despite still being a genin. Aiko is a socially inhibited genius who graduated the Academy two years early, made chuunin before Naruto put on his headband, and generally works as a tracker and support fighter. Also, while Naruto is a big believer in redemption, Aiko does her best to follow his ideals, but can easily be ruthless for the sake of her mission or goal.
• Spared by the Adaptation: The Third Hokage, Jiraiya, Itachi, Kisame, Hidan, Kakuzu, Konan, and all but one of the jinchuriki so far.
• The Stoic: Most of Root, especially Sai. For him, a finger twitch is a major reaction.
• Story-Breaker Power: The Hiraishin is acknowledged as this in-universe. Tsunade describes the technique as “internationally reviled,” and when we see what Aiko Uzumaki does with it, it makes sense why.
• Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Karin Uzumaki serves as one for Sakura Haruno as they have similar skills and personalities. Arguably invoked by the Third Hokage when he made the assignments, because he knew Aiko and Naruto needed help of that kind.
• Suspiciously Specific Denial: At an inter-village kunoichi diplomacy meeting with a hotsprings the subject of Jiraiya is brought up, and Aiko mentions that Even Super-Perverts Have Standards. Yugito says:
  “Uzumaki, you’re a buzz-kill. I think in punishment, you should be used to ward off Jiraiya. That statement is not merely motivated by self-interest or personal dislike.”
• Sympathy for the Devil: In spite of her hatred of the man, Aiko finds herself feeling a moment of pity for Danzo when he is crying at her (faked) demonstration of loyalty to him and Root on his deathbed.
• Taking You with Me: As a Heroic Sacrifice, Uzumaki Aiko uses a massive explosive seal to do this to the body of Pain that she’s fighting. It ends up turning the tide of the battle because the last body had planned for the one she blew up to aid in its battle against Jiraiya and Tsunade, which it could not win alone.
• Teleport Spam: The Hiraishin allows users to do this for almost no chakra.
• Tell Me About My Father: Averted with Aiko. While she’s willing to consider Minato and Kushina family in the distant sense that Karin is, she does not consider them her parents and is sick of people who think she should feel otherwise.
• Timey-Wimey Ball: As per the Naruto movie, Aiko, Naruto, and Sasuke get sent back in time to the middle of the Third Great War. Because Aiko only knew the manga storyline, this completely blindsides her and she spends the better part of three chapters on the verge of a breakdown.
• Tomboy and Girly Girl: Karin and Hinata respectively. Also Aiko and Ino/Sakura.
• Tongue Trauma: Kakashi fears that Tsunade is going to remove his and Tenzo’s Root seals by cutting out their tongues. This happened to others previously.
• Took a Level in Badass:
  • Karin and Hinata get this after training with Anko. Also, after the time-skip Naruto and Sasuke working together can force Itachi to retreat.
  • Karin again in Rain, when she develops chakra chains of her own.
  • Once she masters Hiraishin Aiko can use it to humiliate 8 Cloud Jonin on her own.
• Took a Level in Jerkass: Aiko, Naruto, Sasuke, Tenzo, and many others all have periods of this. Usually, it’s because they’re upset, disgusted, or under a lot of stress, and they go back to normal when things get better.
• Training from Hell: Aiko’s Anbu initiation training. Along with the sleep deprivation training, Maito Gai is the physical conditioning trainer.
• True Companions: Team Seven has this, and later Hinata, Karin, Naruto, and Sasuke form strong team bonds.
• Underestimating Badassery:
  • Akatsuki’s Epic Fail at capturing Aiko, as outlined in Denied Food as Punishment.
  • Earlier, during Yamato’s first meeting with Aiko to help train her chakra chains, she shows up wearing casual clothes and glittery, scented shampoos. He judges the book by its cover and she immediately forces him on the ropes when they fight.
• Undying Loyalty: Despite the occasional denial, Aiko shows this not only for her family and Konoha, but also for her brother’s fellow jinchuriki. She is one of Gaara’s closest friends and literally nearly kills herself breaking Yugito and Fu out of captivity despite it being much easier to leave them and escape alone.
• Vitriolic Best Buds: Naruto and Sasuke have this verging on Ho Yay.
• Wham Episode:
  • Chapter 14: Orochimaru brutally kills Sakura Haruno with almost no foreshadowing.
  • Chapter 28: Tsunade informs Koharu and Homura that she wants them to retire, and then hints at the truth about the Uchiha Massacre to Sasuke before revealing that they’ve recently discovered another family member.
  • Chapter 41: Aiko has a major fight with Kakashi, over her not wanting to learn the rasengan and him seeing her as an amalgam of Minato and Kushina.
  • Chapter 79: The Akatsuki successfully captures its first jinchuriki. It’s Killer B, and the Raikage believes Konoha is responsible.
  • Chapter 90: Aiko puts her plan against Danzo into action, and has to assault or kill several Konoha shinobi along the way, including an Anbu teammate of over a year who trusted her.
• What Happened to the Mouse?: While Danzo continues to be a problem, the Third Hokage shows up maybe once after his retirement, and the other councilors appear to have disappeared completely.
• What the Hell, Hero?: Almost everyone gets these at one point, even Tsunade and Jiraiya.
• Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?:
  • Played for humor with Aiko, as after signing Kakashi’s Dog summoning contract she grows a dislike for Naruto and Sasuke’s summons, claiming that they smell slimy.
  • Then played for drama with her phobia/hatred of puppets, a remnant of a very close call with Sasori.
• Would Hurt a Child: In a world where child soldiers are common, this isn’t as rare as most might hope. That said, the good guys at least try to avoid it when possible.
• You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Several people give this to Aiko at various times when she’s at or nearing a Heroic BSoD.
• You Called Me "X"; It Must Be Serious: The only time Aiko ever calls Kakashi by his name to his face instead of “shishou” is when she’s chewing him out for seeing her as an amalgam of her dead parents.
• Your Head Asplode: Aiko weaves an explosive note into her Hiraishin seal so that she can do this to people, including Shou.
