This Won't End Well is a Warhammer 40,000 Self-Insert fanfic written by user StrangerOrders on SpaceBattles.com. It follows the life of Galtine Ailbe, Primarch of the Second Legion as he adjusts to the craziness of being a Primarch, the setting he is in and the world he landed on.

This Won't End Well provides examples of:

  • Adventure-Friendly World: Calengwag is an unholy fusion of Arturian and Irish Mythology with a party-based dungeon delver.
  • All There in the Manual: SO likes to publish cast lists, setting information, and even game rules as their own chapters.
  • The Anti-Nihilist: The Dawn Knights are a very happy-go-lucky for a legion of demon hunting supersoldiers.
  • Archaeological Arms Race: Par for the course with 40k but Calengwag takes this up another step and makes it an economic model with an entire caste based around encouraging this.
  • Blessed with Suck: Calengwag is littered with unique and powerful Lost Technology but is also stuck in near-constant war over said technology which is in cities filled with literal demons. And that technology almost kills the planet.
  • Cool Sword: Moraltaches are a unique form of Energy Weapon (in the 40k style) which excel at killing Daemons. Calyburne deserves special mention.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Trystane.
  • Death World: Calengwag in a nutshell.
  • Determined Defeatist: For all that he Lamp Shades the nature of the setting, he possesses unswerving loyal to the Great Crusade.
  • Dungeon-Based Economy: Seekers make their living off of venturing into daemon-infested ruins to look for 'Treasures' (Archaeotech which they sell to the highest bidder). Hilariously enough, this leads to a wildly unstable system and the world is littered with unleashed superweapons from Imperial Knights to a 'siege-bear' a beast that most consider using tactical missile weapons to face.
  • Flash Step: The main use of the Authority-Enhanced Navigators in combat is to pull off ridiculously precise warp-jumps
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Galtine.
  • Mage Killer: The Hat of the Dawn Knights.
  • Mr. Exposition: Merlin informs Galtine as to the nature of the ruins, the Fall and the imminent doom of Calengwag.
  • Power Limiter: The aurumite collars that the Emperor gives Galtine and Morygen repress their Blank auras.
  • Ragnarök Proofing: Much of Calengwag's tech, although it also veers into Techno Wreckage.
  • Scavenger World: Calengwag is essentially a medieval-flavored deathworld with shades of this.
  • Self-Insert: Subverted. The Emperor reveals that Galtine is a set of memories he implanted in a Primarch.
  • Silly Rabbit, Cynicism Is for Losers!: Morygen's opinion on negativity.
  • Talking Sword: Calyburne is a conduit for Merlin and later the Stalwart Gold. Neither are exactly discreet.
  • Time Skip: Chapter 39 and Chapter 40 are set thirty years apart.
  • The Idealist: Morygen takes nearly everything in stride. Which is impressive given that her father was assassinated, her mother neglected her, she has looked after her sister since she was fourteen and lives under constant threat of assassination.
  • The Witch Hunter:The official purpose of the Second Legion. As the Eldar learned firsthand.
  • Worthy Opponent: Galtine Lamp Shades that he should not like a Daemon as much as he likes the Bloodthirster he duels.
