All hail THE TECHNO QUEEN!^note *krakathoom*

A Worm fanfic by Prim-the-Amazing, THE TECHNO QUEEN! (*krakathoom*) follows our SUPREME VILLAINESS Taylor Hebert as she attempts to conquer the world with plots of such villainy that the heroes can hardly believe the level of dastardly focus required.

The basic premise is that Taylor grew up as a fan of cheesy villains, and when she triggers with a ridiculously powerful Tinker shard she decides that what the world (and Brockton Bay) really needs is a new, classier type of villain. Enter THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom* (TTQ for short). She spends most of her time Chewing the Scenery while enacting plots that range from ridiculous (turn every piece of chocolate in town into broccoli) to actually helpful (placing ten tons of pure gold on the dance floor at a charity ball in order to interfere with the dancing).

As this is a Worm fanfic, please be aware that both this story and also the following tropes may contain spoilers for canon Worm.

THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom* provides examples of:

• Accidental Hero: TTQ and the Techies road trip vacation where they kill the Slaughterhouse Nine by accident. (actually migraine-inducing path-to-victory by Dinah.)
• Adaptational Villainy: Of sorts. Canary, and Dragon become villains in the story, while Parian joins the villains much sooner. Being the World of Ham that it is, Villain is more like a Job Description than a moral failing.
• Adaptational Superpower Change: A couple aside from the obvious:
  • Aisha has a small one, but hers seems to be reversed of her normal powerset - it apparently takes concentration to keep her Stranger effect up, and disrupting it can cause it to fail. It works the other way in canon- it takes concentration on her part for it to drop.
  • Browbeat, who was in canon a Brute who could modify his own body, has that here too... but he has a powerful Stranger effect on himself that he can't turn off. This leads to everyone (but Imp) forgetting he exists most of the time.
• Anti-Villain: Taylor as THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom*. She's playing the villain, but she never hurts anyone with her schemes (at least, no one that does not truly deserve it), her most villainous actions are Poke the Poodle at worst and revert on their own a few hours later or she makes the changes herself, she gets rid of anyone that can actually be a danger and helps those who need it. Suggesting she's not a villain is not a smart move, though.
• Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Glory Girl can be easily distracted by showing her (or pointing her at) expensive jewelry and/or clothes.
• Awesomeness by Analysis: How Sundancer, having been hung out to dry by the rest of The Travellers, manages to evade capture by New Wave and escape, quickly figuring out who the weak link is to make a break for it. Makes sense, as she's a Tournament tier strategy gamer.
• Bad "Bad Acting": Dinah when being rescued by the Wards.
  Dinah: Ah, oh no, help, oh my god, I’m too young to die, shriek.
• Batman Gambit: Jack Junior sets one up when he tells THE CLOCK KING and THE BATTLE PRINCESS that he's sent an assassin back in time to stop their parents from getting together. Why is this one? He actually hasn't done anything. He just knows that their heroic tendencies will mean that they'll go back in time to try and stop him, and be so over the top and blundering (like their mother) that they'll do the job for him. And he doesn't have to lift a finger.
• Beard of Evil: The Back-Wards, robot duplicates of the Wards, all have goatees where their chins can be seen.
• Because You Were Nice to Me: It's made obvious that one of the reasons TTQ starts to fall for Clockblocker is because he was the first person to play along with her hamminess.
  • TTQ saving Jailbird from being sent unfairly to the Birdcage makes her incredibly loyal to TTQ.
• Benevolent Boss: THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom* to the DASTARDLY TECHIES. Benefits for working for her include ridiculously good wages, really good health insurance (with dental) a retirement fund and Sundays off.
  Flechette: Wait, they get dental? We don't get dental. Why the hell don't we get dental!?
• Belligerent Sexual Tension: Mostly between TTQ and Clock, but Jailbird plays hard to get with Lung as well
• Berserk Button: Insinuating that THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom* is not a real villain is one for said monarch. For Jailbird, hurting Taylor.
• Beware the Silly Ones: Some people think THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom* is not a real villain. She responds with Dinosaurs, Gender swapping, or turning Dragon evil. Or, if you're particularly stupid, Disco.
• Big Damn Kiss: Clockblocker and THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom*, or, rather, Dennis and Taylor, in 6.5.
• Blessed with Suck/Cursed with Awesome: Browbeat's secondary power means no one (save for Imp) remembers he is there most of the time. Imp teaches him how to take advantage of it to prank the other Wards (or the Protectorate members).
• Brilliant, but Lazy: Jack Junior. His stated goal is to bring the world back to the Worm-Canon level of darkness, not the World Of Ham it's become in the wake of Taylor's modifications to it. Thing is, he doesn't want to do it, would rather be playing video games, and only does it because his mom wants him to. The plan we see him execute involves the heroes going off and blundering about in the past while he sits around and does nothing.
• Cain and Abel: Played for Laughs with THE BATTLE PRINCESS and THE CLOCK KING. They are each other's archenemy - an enmity mostly composed of sibling-sibling squabbling and name-calling.
• Calvinball: What the baseball game between the Protectorate and Faultline's Crew rapidly derives into (THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom* didn't have the rulebook on her when she decided to organize it, and none of the capes thinks of checking the rules on the Internet).
• Card-Carrying Villain: TTQ all the way. However that doesn't mean she's evil.
• Chewing the Scenery: TTQ, but only when in disguise.
• Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Tattletale serves as this for Taylor, reining her in when she's about to do something really stupid, like the time she nearly extinguished the sun. It doesn't work a lot of the time, but she tries to be at least the voice of sanity (such as it is).
• Commonality Connection: Dark Lady Plagg and Sundancer over having borderline abusive mothers.
• Conspicuous Trenchcoat: While Taylor's on her first date with Dennis, the Techies wear this, a Fedora and Newspaper over their normal costumes. Even Bitch's dogs. Later, the Humongous Mecha gets a set.
• Contrived Coincidence: During her first weeks at Arcadia, Taylor never seems to cross paths with Dennis.
• Crash-Into Hello: Taylor attempted to invoke it, but she just winds up eating asphalt for her troubles. There's hints that the only reason it failed is that Dennis was busy elsewhere at the time.
• Crazy-Prepared: Danny and the Dockworkers Association of all people. They have plans for when Taylor starts dating. They all wear medical masks and have a 'talk' with whomever she is dating.
  Danny: "Plan Alpha Red Sun."
• Cruel to Be Kind: Downplayed in one omake. Taylor thinks they're being horrible to her, but Lisa and Amy are keeping Taylor in bed until she gets over the flu. They even turned off the Thunderinator, along with the rest of her gadgets. Amy is not using her power to make her better, so Taylor finally gets some rest even with the flu.
• Dating Catwoman: Armsmaster and "Evil" Dragon. Clockblocker and TTQ as of 6.5. Later on, Parian flips sides so she can "Foil" her girlfriend Flechette. Dark Lady Plagg and Sundancer end up snogging after they get entangled and rolled up in a rug.
• Dead Guy Junior: Jack Jr. However, other than the name and shard-induced Genre Savvy, he is nothing like his father. He just wants to play video games.
  • Dennis' and Taylor's future daughter is called Annette, like Taylor's mother.
• Deathbringer the Adorable: Armsmaster names his puppy Mr. Snugglekiller (it was the best compromise he could reach with Dragon).
• Defeat Means Friendship: Somewhat. The Dark Lady Plagg and Sundancer beat the shit out of each other while trading "Yo Mama" jokes. Afterwards they start talking about their crappy mothers, while nursing their wounds.
• Designated Victim: Dinah gets "kidnapped" by TTQ and the Techies on a regular basis so they can fight the Wards. After she becomes The Dark Vizier they have to find a new one.
  • Later on it's Charlotte Victim.... Yes, her last name really is Victim.
• Didn't Think This Through: TTQ realizes this about her potential plan to EXTINGUISH THE SUN!
  "It would have been delightfully evil to force the people of Earth live out the rest of their days in darkness, their plants wilting, their animals starving, their food supplies running out... Huh. I guess I really didn’t think that one through."
  • Played with at the ball, when Taylor claims she'll ruin everyone's good time by dropping ten tons of gold on the dance floor, since that takes up more space than the one ton she planned originally. It's fairly obvious she's faking the trope, though, and she just wanted to donate money to charity.
    • It then gets played straight when Clockblocker, hamming it up, asks her to join him on the dance floor - she didn't think anyone would actually accept her demand that she be danced with. Thankfully, Regent uses his power to nudge her body when she has trouble dancing.
  • Taylor announces to The Dark Vizier that she's planning on kidnapping Dinah Alcott again. The Dark Vizier has to walk Taylor through the minor fact that The Dark Vizier and Dinah are the same person, presenting certain insurmountable difficulties to the plan.
• Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom* builds a mecha capable of pile-driving Leviathan.
• Dope Slap: Clockblocker is the usual recipient of these.
• Double Take: THE CLOCK KING is running with an unconscious THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom* while trying to escape Clockblocker, because he wants to bring Taylor to Dennis so they will hook up. It takes him a while to realize that he has the solution at hand.
• Dramatic Thunder: Invoked by THE TECHNO QUEEN!'s^note *krakathoom*"Thunderinator". Every time somebody says her name, Dramatic Thunder ensues. Eventually, a law is passed to make it illegal to cause the Dramatic Thunder, but even then there's people that just cannot help themselves.
  • In one omake the first sign that something is wrong is that the thunder doesn't sound. Tattletale and Panacea turned off the machine while Taylor is bed-ridden with the flu.
• The Dreaded: THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom*, if only because (a) chaos following in her wake and (b) because the Protectorate's policy is to put Clockblocker in charge of any operations to stop her.
  • Among The Travellers, Sundancer.
• Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Humorous one in that The Dark Vizier has to walk TTQ through why they can't kidnap Dinah anymore. Mainly because Dinah is now the Dark Vizier.
  • The Protectorate has one en masse when they realize that thanks to PR saying that due to public perception of THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom* being rather good for the city, and that the PRT would look bad for treating her like any supervillain, the one whom they should defer to in TTQ-related crimes is Clockblocker.
• Face–Heel Turn: Parian becomes Velvet Villain, going from a Rogue to a Villain. Unlike most examples, this just means that she's no longer self-employed, and that she gets to "Foil" her girlfriend on a regular basis.
  • The Dark Lady Plagg, AKA Panacea, AKA Amy Dallon. She's not full-time villain, she just decides to switch sides every once in a while to get some tension out of her system and have some fun.
  • Dragon when unshackled becomes Evil Dragon. Much like the other two examples, the only difference is that she has Evil in her name now, and she dresses in skin tight skimpy leather outfits. Much to Armsmaster's enjoyment.
• Face Palm: The usual reaction from the usually sane capes whenever THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom* or Clockblocker are up to their Large Ham antics.
• Fatal Flaw: It doesn't come up often, but even though she's... well, Hamminess given physical form, she's still Taylor Hebert and suffers from low self-esteem. The first encounter with the Wards nearly ended with her breaking down crying because Shadow Stalker made fun of how silly her scheme was, were it not for Clockblocker giving her an ego boost by playing along with the Silver Age Cheesiness.
• "Freaky Friday" Flip: Once again, the result of underestimating THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom*.
• Freudian Slip: Even before they hooked up, it's painfully obvious that TTQ and Clockblocker are crushing on each other like mad. You just have to listen to them - sooner or later, one of them will slip up.
• Friendly Enemy: What Clockblocker and TTQ start as until it eventually becomes Dating Catwoman. Some of the Wards and the DASTARDLY TECHIES eventually become friends with each other as well (Grue and Princess Umbra bond over their acquired love for My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, of all things).
• Gender Bender: Aegis tempts fate and says THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom* isn't a threat. She uses her Gender Switch-inators on the whole city.
• Generation Xerox: THE BATTLE PRINCESS and THE CLOCK KING like to play up the hamminess of their encounters, just like their parents.
• Genius Ditz: TTQ at times. Like she uses the Mind-Switchinator and forgets that there are seven heroes and eight villains.
  Regent: "Look at me I'm the Techno Queen! I can build bullshit inventions but I don't know what comes after Seven!"
• Grievous Harm with a Body: During the Mind Swap incident, Paige winds up in Sophia's body and snaps when she hears about what they did to Taylor.
  The first screaming girl threw the second screaming girl at the third screaming girl.
• Grounded Forever: THE BATTLE PRINCESS and THE CLOCK KING are this. Justified as going back in time and accidently making your parents not get together isn't exactly something your parents can just shrug off.
• Happy Dance: TTQ after Grue wins the "Pokémon battle" but mostly because she kissed Clockblocker.
• Heel–Face Turn: Thanks to advice from TTQ, Lung becomes a vigilante.
• Hidden Depths: After spending time in Kid Win's body, Rachel becomes interested in computer programming.
• Hypercompetent Sidekick: Sundancer to the rest of the Travelers.
  Regent: “Who is, I’m convinced, THE GODDAMN TERMINATOR REBORN IN A TUTU!”
  • Tattletale, while not at "Hypercompetent" levels, serves as an effective Dragon to THE TECHNO QUEEN ^note *krakathoom*, helping to keep her in line, help her out behind the scenes, and thanks to her powers is the only one capable of calling Aisha out.
• I Choose to Stay: The Travellers en masse decide to stay on Earth Bet after Scion cures Noelle.
• If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Danny and the entire Dock Workers Association. Clockblocker is more scared of them then anything else in the story.
• Insistent Terminology: It's pronounced THE TECHNO QUEEN! ^note *krakathoom* And the DASTARDLY TECHIES.
  • She also insists that Clockblocker is the leader of the Wards and that everyone else is his sidekick. Clock thinks it's funny. His teammates have to grimace and put up with it, since he is the expert on that particular villain.
• Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: Deconstructed. Paige gets one out of Emma and Madison, records it, and put it on Youtube. The PRT and police, though, can't legally act on this since it was information extracted by force.
• Karma Houdini: Played with. After the body-swap incident, in which Paige (in Sophia's body) beat up the other members of Taylor's bullies, recorded it, and posted it on Youtube, the PRT can't punish Sophia for it because confessions gained by force don't hold up in court. Therefore, Sophia can't be kicked out of the Wards or reassigned to a Simurgh Containment Zone. The video, however, went viral, so the bullies are transferred to different schools across Brockton and Shadow Stalker's hours are cut in half (while her therapy hours are doubled - and she is forced to change to Princess Umbra).
• Kicked Upstairs: Played for Laughs when Clockblocker becomes the new Ward leader. After all, being the team leader means responsibility and paperwork. Lots of paperwork.
• Kid from the Future: THE BATTLE PRINCESS and THE CLOCK PRINCE.
  • In one omake, Tattletale reflects that their presence is a sign that the world is getting Lighter and Softer, since before TTQ came along, the general consensus was that the world was getting consistently worse. That Taylor has two children, and both look happy and healthy, indicates that there's hope for the future.
• Lame Pun Reaction: Male!Shadow Stalker attacks Female!Clockblocker when she declares her new cape name is Time of the Month.
  • The DASTARDLY TECHIES groan and Face Palm when TTQ makes a horrible pun.
• Large Ham: Originally just TTQ but more and more characters become this.
• Lighter and Softer: Compared to canon Worm, oh yeah. This is also one of Taylor's goals: To try to make crime less depressing and horrible (like it is in Brockton Bay). As one reader put it after the Big Damn Kiss:
  Clandistine1: You have made a story where; Taylor gets an overpowered power, Taylor is decidedly a villain, the heroes don't care, a young girl gets kidnapped and tortured repeatedly - and yet it is one of the happiest and sweetest stories on the forum.
  • Many of the characters who die or get horribly injured or worse in canon... actually survive and start to get better. It is implied that Grue and Shadow Stalker are starting to bond towards the end, and they hated each other.
• Little Bit Beastly: The members of New Wave after losing a gameshow, courtesy of THE TECHNO QUEEN ^note *krakathoom*
  • Note goes to Flashbang, who unlike most of his family loves being a [[Centaur]] and isn’t interested in Learning a Important Lesson
• Love at First Punch: Dark Lady Plagg and Sundancer.
• The Mind Is a Plaything of the Body: When one of TTQ's machines malfunctions, the Wards and Techies save TTQ and Clockblocker are turned into kids, like she planned, but they also regress mentally, forcing Clockblocker to babysit a bunch of superpowered five-year-olds while THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom*'' tries to fix things.
• Most Definitely Not a Villain: Felix and Trixie Civilian, who are clearly not Felix Swoop and Thirteenth Hour.
• Mugging the Monster: When they decide to kidnap Sundancer for a project.
  Dark Vizier: “I’m sorry boss, but it almost sounded like you said that we’re going to kidnap the ballerina version of Arnold Schwarzenegger.”
• My Significance Sense Is Tingling: Several characters in the Boston area have a sudden sense of forboding when THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom* decides to come through in retribution for being dismissed as a villain.
• Mythology Gag:
  • In 5.6 TTQ makes Blasto dance uncontrollably. This also happened in canon, albeit caused by a far more malevolent villain.
  • 5.8. “Oh, it’s pretty pathetic, really. And creepy. I mean, bug control, of all things? Ugh."
  • 5.10. “SO YOU WERE A HERO ALL ALONG, YOU TRAITOR!?”
• Nerd Gasm: One of the things Dragon loves about Armsmaster is that they share the same taste in movies.
• No, Mr. Bond, I Expect You to Dine: What Evil Dragon and Armsmaster's date nights are. See she's 'evil' now. It's just that Armsmaster has that habit of seducing her and getting away afterwards.
• No-Respect Guy: TTQ among those who don't know any better. Sundancer among The Travellers, who all think she's the lazy one whenever they all run away and leave her behind (no Mover rating).
• Not So Above It All: Armsmaster is not above throwing a paper plane at Clockblocker during an important meeting. Or above playing along when Dragon becomes "Evil".
• Odd Friendship: Bitch and Armsmaster bond over their lack of social skills. Also Grue and Princess Umbra.
• Oh, Crap!:
  • Miss Militia when she realizes PR wants the Protectorate to put Clockblocker in charge whenever THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom* strikes again.
    • Similarly, the Boston Protectorate when THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom* comes there and they learn who is the expert.
  • The Wards and DASTARDLY TECHIES have this reaction when Shadow Stalker claims that the fights with THE TECHNO QUEEN's^note *krakathoom* have become a routine.
• O.O.C. Is Serious Business: In one omake Clockblocker and the Wards get really worried when the TTQ's plot is nonsensical and she's really loopy. Tattletale admits that they should have taken her tools away when she's high on her cold medicine.
• Only Sane Man: Weld. Unfortunately his sanity drives him insane as he breaks down from the insanity.
• Overly Pre-Prepared Gag: TTQ makes robotic Evil Twins of the Wards (complete with Beard of Evil), just so she can call them the Back-Wards.
• Pair the Spares: Invoked by Tattletale. She's starting to pair off people and using her powers to make it work. Imp violently objects to her brother being paired off with Sophia/Princess Umbra.
  • Official Couple: To that end, we have: -
    • Browbeat (who?) and Crucible.
    • Jailbird and Sheriff Lung.
    • Kid Win and Bitch.
    • Armsmaster and Evil Dragon.
    • Possibly Dark Lady Plagg and Sundancer.
    • Contesssa and Ash Beast.
• Poke the Poodle: Most of TTQ's schemes are this, unless someone makes her mad. Then she gets even.
• Precision F-Strike: Grue's reaction when Shadow Stalker pushes THE TECHNO QUEEN's^note *krakathoom* 'not a real villain' button.
  • In 5.7 Weld swears for the first time he can remember when he learns that the "Techno Queen expert" is Clockblocker.
• Properly Paranoid: Myrddin got rid of all his house's mirrors in case someone with a mirror-based power attacks him. It happened twice before he chucked them.
• Punch-Clock Villain: Of all people Jack Junior. He only does his whole "Darker and Edgier" shtick because his mom won't leave him alone otherwise. He just wants to play video games and slack off.
  • The DASTARDLY TECHIES, when asked why they do the things they do, point out that they not only get paid twice what Coil paid them, but they also get health insurance.
• Reality Warper: It seems that through sheer force of HAM! that TTQ and Clockblocker make the world into a World of Ham as opposed to the Black-and-Gray Morality it is now.
• Right-Hand Cat: Taylor borrows a neighbor's cat to do this before her first day at Arcadia.
• Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The Wards when they learn that THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom*'s latest invention is a Body Switch-inator.
  • Vista, seeing literally everybody in the Wards pair off with a member of the DASTARDLY TECHIES for dates while Taylor and Dennis are having theirs, decides that it's not worth it and runs.
• Shout-Out: In 8.3 Myrrdin had to work on a case about a couple people having sex when their hearts were ripped out. Later, he has to deal with a ghost master killing children. These are referencing the first and third books of The Dresden Files. Later mentions all but state that Myrrdin is the TTQ/Worm version of Harry Dresden as the books plots happen but with superheroes not magic.
  • Dinah gets a Frequent Kidnappee Card, a reference to Megamind (which is also TTQ's favorite movie).
  • The Back to the Future movie gets directly referenced when THE BATTLE PRINCESS and THE CLOCK KING go back in time and end up temporarily preventing their parents from hooking up, causing them to begin to disappear until Taylor kisses Dennis.
  • Similarly, there's a reference to Jurassic Park when TTQ has Dark Lady Plagg revive a bunch of dinosaur eggs.
• Sickeningly Sweethearts: Flechette and Parian.
• Signed Up for the Dental: Well the DASTARDLY TECHIES might not have signed on solely for it, but the dental plan is a nice benefit.
• Shipper on Deck: The Techies for Dennis/Taylor. Mouse Protector ships Armsmaster/Evil!Dragon.
• Slap-Slap-Kiss: It goes a bit farther than that. The Dark Lady Plagg and Sundancer were rolled up into a carpet when fighting each other. They continued on anyway. And then everyone starts hearing noises that were definitely not fighting in-between the actual fighting.
• Smoke Out: TTQ's teleporters release puffs of smoke whenever they're used.
• Sleep Cute: At the end of the Kidified Capes act, TTQ finishes the machine to revert the capes back to normal only to find everyone asleep. So she zaps everyone, throws blankets over them and gets settled to sleep on Clockblocker's lap.
• Squee: THE TECHNO QUEEN^note *krakathoom* squees when Mouse Protector comes to dismantle her latest dastardly plan (i.e. her second kidnapping of Dinah). Tattletale gets an autograph for her.
• Stations of the Canon: Blown up with a Death Ray. Coil is taken out in the first chapter after kidnapping Dinah, Kaiser and most of Empire 88 is demasked long before canon, Lung is now an Anti-Hero, the Slaughterhouse 9 was killed thanks to Dinah nearly putting herself in a coma to arrange their deaths, Saint died from a heart attack after TTQ unshackled Dragon and convinced her to become "Evil". And if one omake is to be believed Scion has decided that being The Gadfly give his existence purpose and Golden Morning will never happen as he's having fun messing with people. There's a reason that Contessa is laughing manically and she is now using Path To Victory to get herself the perfect boyfriend.
• Strange Minds Think Alike: Regent and Clockblocker have the exact same reaction to being transformed into women.
• Strong as They Need to Be: THE BATTLE PRINCESS's power is literally to have the abilities that are most dramatically appropriate.
  • Her shard's called Drama Queen as a joke to Taylor's original shard, Queen Administrator.
• Tranquil Fury: TTQ is usually hammy, unless she's angry. If she goes calm and restrained... something bad will happen.
  • Coil found this out the hard way right after he kidnapped Dinah. TTQ destroys every single one of his plans, takes out all of his personnel, dumps him in front of PRT who know know who he is, and literally steals every single thing he owned including bank accounts. All because he dared to touch Dinah.
• Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Even Danny Hebert reacts to what other people would have freaked out about with a shrug and a cup of tea.
