They also don't all have the ''experience'' necessary to put this mindset into perspective. Because of this, it takes a conversation between Juushiro and Yamamoto to avert PoorCommunicationKills.

* EveryoneIsGay: WordOfGod [[https://crossoverqueen.wordpress.com/2017/02/19/worldbuilding-reproduction-rated-pg/comment-page-1/ says]] that Shinigami, Akuma, Hollows, Youkai and Arrancar and probably yuurei (normal responders) and hanyou have three sexes and all of them are necessary for reproduction. This means that bisexual will be the most common sexual orientation at the Project.

* InfantImmortality: Averted, although not on-screen in the first three installments.
** In "Project Asclepius," we (and Retsu) learn that everyone of ''any'' age who couldn't make it to a shelter (or form a chrysalis) in time died. [[FigureItOutYourself Toshirou was not the only child on the base before the attack, but he's the only one among the survivors.]]
** In ''Sanzo vs. the Alien Invasion'', Sanzo saves the kid acolytes with the help of a boy who was kidnapped and transformed into an akuma. [[spoiler:That boy was Goku.]]

* AmbiguousGender: Juushirou in ''Resident Project'' is described as male by Yamamoto, as in canon, but is slated in the Project Verse to undergo an involuntary sex change called "second puberty," which means transformation into a tritiya, a member of a third sex necessary for reproduction. In ''Project Tatterdemalion'', ''Project Asclepius'', and ''Project Thoughts'', this had not yet taken place; it would have been stated if it had. By ''Resident Project'', Kryal and Vathara weren't sure if it had happened and the character only appears in a scene written from the point of view of Yamamoto, whose attitudes toward tritiya are unknown.

* Badass
** AgentPeacock: Yumichika is just as vain careful his appearance -- and just as deadly--as he is in canon.
** BadassBookworm: Five scientists of various fields, three doctors, a data analyst, a covert agent who can pass for a scientist, an administrator whose encyclopedic knowledge is a job requirement... and that one strike trooper who reads scientific journals for fun. [[spoiler: All of these people end up as shinigami.]]
** BadassFamily: The "family" part is instinctual, and the shinigami are quickly approaching the status of BadassCrew. [[spoiler:Literally true in the case of Isshin and Kaien, and (depending on how the author assimilates the revelations of the final arc) possibly Ryuuken and Masaki, too.]]
** BadassInCharge: Among the [[AsskickingEqualsAuthority shinigami]], we have [[MajorlyAwesome Shunsui]] [[HeroesPreferSwords Kyoraku]] and [[BadassBookworm Juushirou]] [[BewareTheNiceOnes Ukitake]]. For the rest of the survivors, we have [[FourStarBadass General]] [[BadassGrandpa Yamamoto-Genryusai]] and Sgt. Petrillo of the strikers.
** BadassLongcoat: Played with. Kyoraku first winds up in a pink camo bathrobe that is decidedly not badass. He does, however, do badass things while wearing it.
** BadassNormal: Sergeant Petrillo and General Yamamoto. Also Ikkaku, Yumichika, and Kaien, before becoming shinigami.
** BadassUnintentional: At first. Killing a Hollow with a chair instead of a flamethrower, freezing a Hollow solid, blowing up the entire physics lab, and outrunning bullets were all reflex actions on the part of unwitting shinigami... And ''then'' they start figuring out the real extent of their new abilities.

* BioAugmentation: Strictly illegal in the Republic (the Quincies were only grandfathered in because they were highly prized as human weapons). Which seems like it's going to have some nasty consequences for our heroes, as those laws don't make exceptions for situations like theirs...

Most of the anatomical differences are internal, so what were once men and women look very much like men and women.

* ActionGirl: Of the female shinigami, Yoruichi and Isane are the most "front lines" types (ironic given Isane's timid personality in canon).
* ActionSurvivor: Even with the CombatTentacles, some of the shinigami qualify, especially at first. For instance: the scientists who have never before seen combat (and may or may not be {{Reluctant Monster}}s afterwards), the Project's medical staff, a twelve-year-old kid who had to fight off his father's zombified remains, and that one data analyst who woke up with a Hollow in his face. Even after most grow into the role of BadassAbnormal, some (like [[CombatMedic Hanatarou]]) just aren't meant for the thick of combat.
