A Guide to Recent Equestrian History was first published on May 16th of 2014. Written by mint20, it is an attempt to gather a complete catalog of all events in Equestria's past, starting with the fall of the old Equestrian Republic and going from there.

A Guide to Recent Equestrian History contains examples of:
- Apocalypse How: The Reign of Discord classifies as Planetary Societal Collapse. While Equestria is hit the hardest, the entire world backslides to a technology level comparable with the Classical Era.
- Curbstomp Battle: The Battle of Las Pegasus. The Third Army of Equestria was taken completely by surprise and stomped so badly that only fifteen ponies survived (out of ten thousand.)
- During the Battle of Ghastly Gorge, one of the battles of the Harmonious Revolution, due to Changeling infiltration and night attacks, a Changeling army of one hundred thousand managed to defeat a force of one million ponies.
- To be fair, they suffered almost 50% casualties.
- By himself, Discord manged defeat over one and a half million warriors at the Battle of the Republic.
- During the Battle of Ghastly Gorge, one of the battles of the Harmonious Revolution, due to Changeling infiltration and night attacks, a Changeling army of one hundred thousand managed to defeat a force of one million ponies.
- Democracy Is Bad: The Equestrian Republic, which was the form of government until Discord came around, was ineffective at best, failing to agree on any topic, even about how to counter Discord's alarming attacks against Equestria.
- Final Battle: There are a ton of these.
- The Second Battle of Ponyville. Final battle fought between the Equestrian Resistance Alliance and Discord and his Changeling minions. Brought down the Reign of Discord.
- The Second Battle of Las Pegasus: Massive battle between the Armies of Equestria and the Changelings controlling Las Pegasus. End of any meaningful threat posed by the Changelings for over a thousand years.
- Heel–Face Turn: Scorpan defects to Equestria after being saved by Star-Swirl the Bearded, even though Star-Swirl knew that Scorpan had attacked a pony settlement.
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Before the Reign of Discord, the ponies of Equestria were on the brink of civil war. Good thing he invaded, and gave the ponies someone to unite against.
