  • Within moments of his reveal, Reiji Akaba has been christened by many as "Hipster Kaiba", especially when he wears that trendy hoodie while eavesdropping in episode 9. Just take one look at him and no further explanation is needed.
    • Speaking of Kaiba, if you change his hair to Kaiba's and take away his glasses...
  • Yuya has been nicknamed "Tomato Head" by many. Once again, such a name needs no explanation.
    • Posts with Yuya being sad, uncomfortable or upset are often tagged as wilting/rotting tomato, and posts of him injured are "bruised tomato".
  • The Dark Duelist Yuto is also referred to as the Goth Duelist, Eggplant, Eggyuya, Purple Kotori, or Dark Yuya. As of Episode 35 and the duel splash screen that renders his name as "Ute", the less-serious nickname "yoot yoot" has also been making rounds.
    • Due to the infamous "Duel with Smiles" scene, some fans started calling him "Mr. Egao" or "egaoplant".
  • Around the Xyz Arc, when Yuya's Entertainment Duel seemed to be able to turn people good, fans began to refer to him as "The EGAO Messiah." This usually goes in line with referring to "EGAO" (smiles) as some kind of Cosmic Horror or religious ideal, similar to the Light of Destruction, which brainwashes anyone who experiences it.
  • Immediately after his appearance without the helmet was revealed, fans started calling Yugo "Banana Head" due to his bangs, or "blueberry-banana" in reference to his entire hairdo.
  • The alternate Yuzus are known as Fuzu (Serena), Xyuzu (Ruri), and Synczu (Rin). Yuzu herself is usually named "the citrus" (which her name literally means), to go with the tomato.
    • In contrast, the Yuyas all have some sort of fruit or vegetable nickname; there's Yuya's Tomato, Yuto's Eggplant, Yugo's Banana, and Yuri is generally referred to as Cabbage, or occasionally Cabbage Brows due to his distinctive fluffy pink eyebrows.
    • Yuzu's manga countepart, on the other hand, has earned the title Jewzu.
  • Some fans who both followed the anime and know Five Nights at Freddy's have started to call Sora's deck "Five Nights At Sora's". It does help that his ace is a box puppet, like the Demonic Spider "The Puppet" in Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
  • Futoshi is universally known throughout the fandom as "Shivers Kid." Largely because no one remembers his name or anything about him besides his catchphrase.
  • The Raid Raptors/Raidraptors are called "RuriRaptor", or "RaidRuris" by the fans, due to Kurosaki's obsession of rescuing his sister. Kurosaki's picked up the nickname of "the imoutoman" in some circles, for the same reason. Revolution Falcon on the other hand, given its MO, has earned the nickname of "carpet bombing", to the point that fans will often jokingly denounce Raidraptor decks without it as not having enough carpet bombing.
    • He and Crow are sometimes referred to collectively as "the Angry Birds," though this is more likely to apply to Kurosaki.
    • Raidraptors "GENESIS Freedom Falcon" for Satellite Cannon Falcon due to its effect being a Beam Spam similar to the Freedom and its Finishing Move being a Kill Sat invokes the GENESIS.
  • People has nicknamed Yuya and his counterparts from each dimension the "Yu Squad". Another one is "Yu4" and the "Dragon Boys" since them having dragons as ace monsters.
  • Whenever Yuya or his counterparts use their Superpowered Evil Side, everyone calls this their "Berserk Mode" or "Berserker Mode". Series director Katsumi Ono refers to it as "Awakening".
  • Fans have taken to calling Yuya/Yuzu and his/her counterparts the "King/Queen of" based on which dimension they come from.
  • The Obelisk Force have picked up the fairly accurate nickname "Jobelisk Force", due to the fact that they keep jobbing to the important characters.
  • Rin got the nickname green cabbage or apple when her design was released. Apple is more common, as it fits to Yugo's "Banana".
    • Her or Yugo's D-Wheel are also called "Rin-Go" by the fans, as it is a pun to "Ringo" which means "apple" in Japanese. "Rin-Go" literally means "Unit Rin".
  • Due to his manliness and him referring to himself as "the manly Gongenzaka" or "the man Gongenzaka", people often call him just "The Man" in honor of him.
  • Due to Sawatari calling himself "New Sawatari" and "Neo New Sawatari", fans tend to extend his name to make it more ridiculous.
  • Roget resembling Godwin earned him the nickname "Frenchwin".
    • Fans also call him "Pinocchio" because of his long nose and deceptive nature.
  • Since there are characters who resemble other characters in other works, Olga is called "Elsa" and Halil "Aladdin".
  • Since the reveal that he uses a deck full of bee-related monsters, Shinji has become "Bee Man", "The Bees", or "The reBEElion" to some.
  • Ever since Sergey's first appearance, the fandom refers to him as Synchro!Barrett due to his resemblance to the latter.
  • Many fans have come to call Dennis The Menace, for obvious reasons. "Bennis" is also popular for some inexplicable reason.
    • It has something to do with Spurdo Sparde and their bastardization of the word "Penis", that's for sure.
  • Due to the way how the Japanese pronounce "City", fans who hate it and its population call it either "Shiti" or "Shitty".
  • Because of his last name, Allen is often called "Not!Anna"
  • Fans have taken a liking to calling Noro "Noroma-chan" or "Blockhead", thanks to Grace and Gloria.
  • It's relatively popular in Reddit to call Akaba family "Keikakunote  Family", with Leo as "Keikaku Dad", Reiji as "Big Keikaku", Reira as "Mini Keikaku", and Ray as "Keikaku onee-san".
  • Episodes with Hidekazu Ebina or Kenichi Hara, arguably the best animators of ARC-V, as chief animators are called "Ebinanimation" or "Haranimation", while episodes with Koreans (non-arguably the worst animators) animating have the stigma of "Koreanimation".note
  • The Fake Gang are this. Dipped is Fake Yugi Card is Fake Jaden Shinji is Fake Yusei and is Fake Yuma
  • Thanks to the persistent Running Gag about people messing up his name, fans now consistently refer to "Yugo" as "Fusion".
  • The alternate universe versions of characters from previous series (Crow, Jack, Kaito, Asuka and Edo) are usually referred to as "Legacy Characters".
  • The five duelists who fought (and got destroyed by) Yuri in episode 106 are collectively called "GX Nostalgia" thanks to their summoned monsters being the ace cards of the main characters in GX.
  • Many fans like Strong Ishijima's dub name enough that even ones who prefer the original names have "The Sledgehammer" as his nickname/Stage Name.
