The Doctor's Doctor
is a crossover fic by KCS, merging the Sherlock series, Doctor Who, and the Sherlock Holmes Canon. The FF.N summary is as follows:
John Watson, late of Her Majesty's Army and specifically a tour in Afghanistan, is drifting in London, alone and without purpose, until he meets two very remarkable people who will test his loyalty and change his life forever. Written for sherlockrebang, summer 2012. Triplicate crossover/AU with ACDcanon, DW, and Sherlock. Features Thirteen!Sherlock and Weeping Angels. Gen.
John Watson, now a police coroner, is good friends with Detective Inspector Lestrade, which makes him aware of an incredible locked-room murder case. What makes it so incredible? The fact that the case consists of multiple murders, and the death toll continues to rise. John does a bit of investigation and deduction on his own, and realizes that these deaths are somehow related to the angel statues that keep cropping up in the victims' houses.
Enter Mycroft Holmes, who has a proposition for John that grows increasingly unhealthy to ignore as he embroils himself deeper into the locked-rooms case. Thanks to Mycroft, he becomes aware of alien life - the Weeping Angels and the Doctor in particular. The Doctor is now on his final regeneration, and John has to choose a side...

- Come with Me If You Want to Live: Subverted. John realizes that he has to stick with the Doctor if he's going to avoid Mycroft's vengeance in the form of psychopathic killer statues. Then an Angel gets him.
- Composite Character: The thirteenth incarnation of the Doctor, who is basically an alien Sherlock (yes, there is a difference).
- Continuity Nod: Many, to all three fandoms.
- "And none of [my regenerations] were ginger!"
- "Run!" (Obviously, it's something of a Character Catchphrase for the Doctor, but "Rose" is where it all started.)
- And one gem of a line that makes a beautiful nod to both Doctor Who and Sherlock:
"Ah...John. I think you should know that I consider myself in a relationship with my TARDIS, and while I'm flattered by your interest, I -"
- Crapsack World: Pretty much how John regards Victorian London... and the next few decades of history he'll have to live through, World War I included.
- Establishing Character Moment: For Thirteen, a Chase Scene followed up by a Sherlock Scan. Yep, that pretty much says it all.
- From Bad to Worse: From rocky relationship with the boss to target. Poor John.
- Genre Savvy: John, to the point where he does a lot of Lampshade Hanging. (Unfortunately, it doesn't stop him from grabbing the Idiot Ball when he's angry - he should really know better than to stomp away from the Doctor when he's a marked man.)"I'll not appreciate my computer blowing up in my face if I try to locate fanbases for this character to gauge public opinion, or my files being wiped if I should try to email one of his former associates."

Alternate Character Interpretation. - Hope Spot: After basically rejecting the Doctor, John changes his mind and turns around to go back... He never saw the Weeping Angel emerge from the shadows just behind him.
- Inspired by…: "The Six Napoleons" (from the Sherlock Holmes Canon).
- Insufferable Genius: What else do you expect when it's the Doctor and Sherlock rolled into one??
- Last of His Kind: Invoked by the Doctor, but really driving the point home by this being his final regeneration.
- Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Either that was very sound logic, or very bad novel-writing.
- Mythology Gag: After all, there was an old saying that when the impossible is ruled out, whatever remains has to be the truth —
- Narrative Profanity Filter
- Nice Job Breaking Yourself, TARDIS: But at least John and Doctor!Sherlock Holmes now get to have all those adventures together in Victorian London.
- "Not So Different" Remark: Overlaps with John's "The Reason You Suck" Speech, when he sees uncomfortable similarities between the Doctor's disregard for patch-up duty and the major world powers in the Middle East.
- The Nth Doctor:
- Oh, Crap!: Again, more than once.The Doctor: "No, John. I mean you really need to get out of here, now!"
- Police Are Useless: Subverted - the Yard is shown to be more or less competent, but they're dealing with aliens and they don't even know it.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Mycroft Holmes... then things go downhill, and he turns out to be something of a Diabolical Mastermind, or a Magnificent Bastard at the very least.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: A truly wince-inducing one from John to the Doctor:"You've done nothing to prove [Mycroft's] opinion of you wrong, now have you? Has there ever been a time - where the Earth was threatened and after the threat was neutralised, was there ever a time when you remained behind to help with the aftermath? The stories might be part true, or part lie - but all of them agree, that once you've taken care of the supposed threat, you disappear, and everyone is left trying to salvage the wreckage of what had been their world! What sort of creature does that, leaves an innocent society trying to pick up the pieces of something that was not their fault? Do you condemn me for wondering who is more callous, the alien who directly threatens humanity, or the one who saves humanity only to then condemn it to years, even decades of recovery without any type of help?"
- The Reveal: The Doctor is revealed at the end to have been the "real" Sherlock Holmes all along, just not who the world thinks Sherlock Holmes is (i.e. human).
- Sherlock Scan: The Doctor upon meeting John, of course (but justified, as the Doctor has done the scan before, most notably in his tenth and eleventh incarnations).
- Shout-Out: To Star Trek, several times. Doubles as Author Appeal, as the author is well-known for her Star Trek fics (as well as her Star Trek/Sherlock Holmes crossovers).
- Curiouser and curiouser.
- "I'd like a name to put with your face, unless you'd like to be referred to as Mulder indefinitely."
- The Slow Path: In the end, the TARDIS effectively forces the Doctor onto the Slow Path alongside John Watson... not that the Doctor, a.k.a Sherlock Holmes now, apparently minds.
- The Smurfette Principle: In full force - out of two female characters (counting the TARDIS, Molly is the only one with speaking lines.
- Unwitting Pawn: John in Mycroft's machinations to trap the Doctor.
- Victorian London: John is dropped in January 1881 by an Angel, and the rest of the fic takes place there.
- Wham Line: More than one, but perhaps most notably this:"According to all records, you disappear without a trace on the night of October 12, 2011 - there is no confirmation of you ever showing back up in your proper time period. [...] I. Cannot. Change. That."
- What the Hell, Hero?:John: "And you wonder why I found it hard to choose sides. In the past, your other incarnations at least tried to minimize damage and save the Earth. But we never saw your twelfth incarnation at all, and this one - I know you aren't human, Doctor, but I didn't peg you for nothing more than a machine."
