Mars vs Jupiter (As Told By Mina) is a Sailor Moon fanfic written by Louis Gagliano, aka LouEthelip in 2008. This story is narrated by Mina, or Sailor Venus. It focuses on the growing rivalry between Raye and Lita (dub names used in the story), which culminates in an all-out brawl. The fic can be found here.

Tropes found in this work:

  • Action Girl: Raye and Lita took this trope up to eleven, both curbstomping their first opponents.
  • Cool Old Guy: Raye's grandfather broke up the initial brawl between Lita and Raye, convinced the two to face off each other for the advertised MMA tournament, trained them before the upcoming match, comforted Lita after her first match and prevented a gravely injured Lita from continuing the fight.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Lita's first fight with an unnamed contender was this, with Lita winning in 28 seconds. Raye also dominated her first opponent, nearly breaking xir arm. The matchup between Raye and Lita ended with Raye delivering a painfully one-sided beatdown to Lita , reducing her to a blubbering wreck.
  • Death Glare: Lita and Raye gave each other an atmosphere-chilling glare after the first day's matches were over.
  • Defeat Means Repaired Friendship: After the match ended, and Raye was said to have lost while the "winner" (Lita) was too battered to even move, let alone fight, they healed in the Cherry Temple, and patched up their friendship.
  • Determinator: Both Raye and Lita took a massive battering from one another, but refused to end the fight until Raye won by dislocating Lita's shoulder. Even then, it was only Grandpa Hino's forbidding Lita from continuing the match that prevented her from moving on, stating that if her allowed her to continue, she would've been beaten to death.
    • Determined Defeatist: It became clear that Lita had exhausted herself and been dealt a critical injury in the second round, and that Raye would curbstomp her in the third. All that Lita had to say was: "Stop this match and I will never speak to you again". During the third round, she is even crying out of sheer agony, but wanted to continue the match.
  • Force and Finesse: Lita, obviously, is force, with raw strength and power. Raye, due to her martial arts training, represents finesse, and has better stamina, versatility, and agility.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: This is Lita's style of fighting.
  • Gray Rain of Depression: The morning of the second day of MMA fighting was a rainy one, reflecting how stressed Mina felt about her two good friends having an all-out fight.
  • Heroic RRoD: It was Lita's going all out in the first round that left her winded and ultimately gave Raye the opportunity to crack her ribs and dislocate her shoulder, with little resistance.
  • I Can Still Fight!: Lita begged Grandpa Hino not to take her out of the competition, despite the face that her ribs were broken and her arm had been dealt heavy injury. Grandpa Hino forced her to rest up.
  • I Know Karate: While Lita represented pure power and strength, Raye, on the other hand, has martial arts that she learned from her grandfather.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Lita 's biggest challenge was to control her overwhelming rage with Raye , and think clearly.
  • The Medic: Amy was put into this position as she had the best knowledge about anatomy and was best equipped to tend to their injuries.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Lita was shocked by how brutally she'd beaten her first opponent and had to be led away from the ring.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Lita delivered one to her first opponent, leaving her wracked with guilt. The final round the girls' MMA match ended with Raye delivering one to Lita, which left her with injuries lasting for months.
  • Parental Abandonment: Grandpa Hino cited wanting to be strong enough to defend herself as the reason why Lita was so determined to become the best fighter.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Raye genuinely won the Raye vs. Lita match but Lita was announced the winner, because her ribs had been so broken up, that holding her arm up above her head would be agonizing for her. Raye was visibly disappointed with the outcome, but took it in stride.
  • Red Baron: The announcer tried to give Raye "Blazing Heat" Hino and "Thunder and Lightning" Lita Kino one of these. It was so awkward that it almost made the very tense Mina laugh.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Raye's first entry into the ring had her basking in the audience's attention and working up a sweat before the match started. Lita entered the ring of her first match and merely gave a Death Glare to her opponent.
  • The Rival: This canon explored the relationship between Raye and Lita, and how and why they believed themselves to be the best fighter out of the inner senshi.
  • Stepford Smiler: Grandpa Hino advised Mina to, along with Serena and Amy, hide how worried they are about Raye and Lita and give the two their smiles and encouragement.
  • There Is No Try: Grandpa Hino said this to Lita after hearing that she wanted to try to win the tournament.
