Waking up usually isn't a cause for concern. Waking up in a strange forest when you're ninety-nine percent sure you didn't take an impromptu camping trip? Not so much.

Meet Christie Christoferson, an otherwise normal girl who finds herself in the Land of Fantasy and Illusion, Gensokyo, as she...

Well, she doesn't do much to be honest.

Forest Mix is a quest run by KChasm on Touhou Project. Its five threads can be found here, here, here, here, and here. It also has a mirror on the Sufficient Velocity forums here.

This quest provides examples of:

  • Affectionate Nickname: Christie often refers to Rinnosuke as "Mac."
  • Big Damn Heroes: Rumia saves Christie from death by record.
  • Blasphemous Boast: Done by Rumia against Kana. Kana calls her out on it.
Rumia: "Qui respondit: Nequaquam sed sum princeps exercitus Domini, et nunc venio."note
Kana: "What a blasphemous thing to say."
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
  • Disproportionate Retribution: What's Rika'snote  response to having to pay more for some CDs? Attempt to demolish Kourindou. With a tank.
    Rika: "Extortionists don't get shops."
  • Faux Affably Evil: Kana Anaberalnote .
Or ya guess it's the other way 'round, that that ugly was always there and you and Rumia knocked the wall down, little by little, till Rumia knocked it down all the way.
  • Flowery Insults: Christie flings some of these towards Rinnosuke post-poltergeist incident for insinuating she was a fool for following him into a storm of records.
  • Good Thing You Can Heal: A trait of many youkai. Despite being told so, Christie hadn't quite internalized this, meaning she was surprised to see Rumia after she heard Marisa "exterminated" the youkai.
  • Gratuitous Latin: Courtesy of Rumia. More specifically, they're quotes from the Vulgate Bible. The chapter titles are also in Latin.
Christie to herself: Seriously, though—screw Latin. Some dead languages oughta just stay dead, thanks.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Done by Rumia so Christie could make it back to Rinnosuke's shop after they rescued the horse leg from Marisa's experiments.
  • Insistent Terminology: Rinnosuke and Christie argue about whether to call Kana a noise spirit or poltergeist respectively.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Between Christie and Rumianote , and Christie and Rinnosukenote .
  • It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time:
    • Spoken word for word by Christie when Rinnosuke asks why she punched Marisa in the face
    • Turns out trying to punch a poltergeist doesn't really work out in the puncher's favor.
  • Ludicrous Gibs: What happened to the first homunculus Marisa made in Kourindou after Christie blasted it with the Mini-Hakkero.
  • Mundane Object Amazement: Rinnosuke is awed when he and Christie play a music record for the first time.
  • Odd Friendship: Between Christie and Rumia. One's an Outsider naive to the workings of Gensokyo, the other's a youkai with no compunctions about eating people. Yet they somehow make it work.
  • Running Gag: Christie's reaction to missing yet another chance to make some headway on getting back to the Outside will inevitably be some variation on "Aw, nuts."
  • Sudden Sequel Death Syndrome: Discussed by Christie when she learns that Kana wasn't permanently put down by Rumia's attacks.
Christie: “Well, lemme lay it out for ya—the dudes who survive a horror flick? They totally bite it in the sequel. Like, nine times outta ten, decidin' to costar in The Revenge of the Attack of the Music Box Ghost when ya barely survived The Attack of the Music Box Ghost in the first place is just straight up temptin' fate.”
  • Poor Communication Kills: Christie tells Rumia to escape while she distracts Marisa. Somehow Cirno misinterprets this as Christie bullying Rumia, and has twice attempted to attack her for revenge.
  • Verbal Tic: Christie has a bunch, though the author has admitted he was a lot more inconsistent in the beginning.
KChasm: Enh, it's a matter of making up rules and sticking to them. Christie drops her g's. Doesn't say "ain't." Says "ya" instead of "you" when the word is unstressed. That sort of thing.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: The aforementioned horse leg is a fully sentient youkai, however Marisa has no compunctions using it as an ingredient for a homunculus. Christie encouraging that caused a brief falling out with the half-youkai Rinnosuke, and led to the impromptu rescue operation partnered with Rumia.
