Fanfic / After the Abuse, Part One

Go To

Severus Snape visits the Dursleys after it is learned they abused Harry Potter. The Dursleys DIE!
—Actual description on Fanfiction.net.

After the Abuse, Part One is one of the most bizarre fanfics in Harry Potter history, ranking alongside My Immortal and Thirty Hs in terms of insanity, to the point that it is almost impossible to describe.

The plot, as far as one can tell, is that Severus Snape randomly decides to murder the Dursleys for unspecified "abuse" of Harry. It just gets weirder from there.

It should be noted that there is no "Part Two" of this story. This is a good thing, since "Part One" by itself will drive most readers to insanity.

The story can be read here. Be warned: Despite being very short, this is easily one of the worst-written fanfics in the site's history. The writing style is extremely bizarre and nearly incomprehensible. Don't say we didn't warn you.

Also has a loose reenactment of the first chapter Built with LEGO.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Artistic License – Physics: After blowing up a bomb in Abingdon (a market town in England), a river quickly fills up the hole and floods the city.
  • Asshole Victim: The Dursleys. Oddly enough, the fic is listed as "Horror/Tragedy." To quote one of the reviewers: "It would not be a tragedy if the Dursleys died. It would be a day for national celebration."
  • Ax-Crazy: Snape, to an extremely disturbing degree.
  • Bad Guy Bar: The Nasty Bar, where Voldemort apparently likes to hold parties.
  • Bold Inflation: The first three chapters are entirely in bold. For equally unclear reasons, the fourth chapter cuts off the bold halfway into the first sentence.
  • The Chosen One: Snape gives Harry the title "Wizarding World Savior" (W.W.S. for short).
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Inflicted on both Petunia and Vernon, complete with Gratuitous Rape.
  • Continuity Nod: Somewhat shockingly, the story manages to do this, with Dudley being turned into a pig.
  • The Corrupter: Snape teaches Harry to abuse Muggles, telling him that he is the "savior" only of the wizarding world, not the Muggle world.
  • Crossover: The way chapter 4 is written, it's unclear whether it's meant as a Shout-Out to "Resonance by GreenGecko", or a very terse declaration that the events of that story are also canon to After The Abuse.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: The Dursleys were abusive in canon, but Snape's actions are quite excessive.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: The Death Eaters join in torturing the Dursleys to punish them for abusing Harry. This makes about as much sense as anything else in this.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Snape is portrayed as a psychopath who uses Unforgivable Curses on the Dursleys, teaches Harry that he should abuse Muggles, and commits a terrorist attack that even injures (and presumably kills) other wizards. He is still portrayed as working against Voldemort despite this.
  • Failed a Spot Check: A Muggle doctor is accidentally brought to St. Mungo's and treated for radiation poisoning. Presumably, this leads to the Muggles finding out about the magical world.
  • The Fundamentalist: Snape is implied to be this, invoking the crucifixion as a reason why Harry shouldn't care about protecting the Muggle world. Yeah.
  • Gratuitous Rape: This is done to Petunia (by a werewolf.) A bunch of Death Eaters also do this to Vernon, "every way possible."
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Sort of. Snape transforms Dudley into a pig, which is then eaten by the Death Eaters.
  • Info Dump: Chapter 3 goes into great detail on radiation poisoning treatment.
  • In Name Only: This goes without saying. Most obviously, this version of Snape bears zero resemblance to his canon self.
  • Karmic Rape: The rapes that happens to Petunia and Vernon are supposed to be karma for their abuse towards Harry.
  • Kick the Dog: The Dursleys apparently did this to Harry off-screen, but we're given no details, except that it took Harry a while to recover.
  • Kill It with Fire: What Snape does to Dudley, after turning him into a pig.
  • Meaningless Meaningful Words: The entire thing is borderline incoherent. The final line of Chapter 3 deserves special mention: "Tom Riddle screams all the way to hell, where he is placed into solitary confinement."
  • Mind Screw: The whole thing.
  • Noodle Incident: The exact nature of the "abuse" that Snape is punishing the Dursleys for is never specified. It seems to have been something recent, as Snape should have known all along that they treated Harry badly before he arrived at Hogwarts.
  • Nuke 'em: Snape and Harry commit a terrorist attack by detonating a nuclear bomb in Abingdon. They also do this to the Riddle House to destroy Voldemort's Horcruxes.
  • Parental Substitute: Snape is a very bad one to Harry.
  • Purple Prose: All over the place. The Dursleys being raped is twice referred to as "carnal knowledge."
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Snape does this to the Dursleys on Harry's behalf.
  • Shout-Out: An extremely bizarre example. Chapter 4 is not part of the story at all, but what looks like a plug for another author's story.
  • Silence Is Golden: There is no dialogue at all in the story. The reader is just told everything that happens, most of which makes no sense whatsoever.
  • Stress Vomit: Dumbledore does this upon discovering the Dursleys' bodies.
  • Understatement: The first line tells us that Snape "stopped by to see" the Dursleys. He does much more than that.
  • Title One: The fanfic is called After The Abuse, Part One, presumably under the assumption that there would be a Part Two.
