Everybody Cries / Anime & Manga

• A Place Further than the Universe: During episode 12, Shirase completely and fully breaks down seeing the thousand emails she sent her mother are unread, giving her the emotional closure knowing that her mother is gone; Kimari, Hinata, and Yuzuki all cry with her outside the room. Along with the entire audience.
• The ending of Assassination Classroom features Class 3-E finally assassinating Koro-sensei. Nobody takes it well. Even Blood Knight Karma, Robot Girl Ritsu and Delinquent Terasaka couldn't stop themselves.
• In the final chapter of Attack on Titan Eren has been defeated and the power of the Titans, as well as Ymir's curse, has been removed from the world with his death. The memories of Eren speaking with his friends are all returned, causing all of his friends to be over come with grief at his passing, having realized the truth behind Eren's actions. As multiple characters openly weep over what has happened, others are shown tearfully reuniting with loved ones, or saying goodbye to the dead. Notable moments include Jean and Connie seeing Sasha, who smiles as she disappears, and Levi sharing a final salute with his fallen comrades while shedding a Single Tear.
• Cells at Work!: All the erythroblasts at their graduating ceremony do this in episode 6.
  • Cells at Work! CODE BLACK has all the glomeruli cry after the Elder Glomerulus does an Heroic Sacrifice during the urinary tract infection. And it was AA2153 who told them, unlike the Elder Glomerulus, that it was okay to let your feelings out in sad situations such as that.
• In Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, the death of Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku brings tears from all the main characters, even Inosuke.
• A rather justified instance in Doraemon: Nobita and the Green Giant Legend when the gang made their way back to earth... and realize the green nuke had turned the world into a forest-covered wasteland, with vines and leaves covering even the Tokyo Tower. Gian tells everyone who's sobbing that crying won't save the world, but then he remembers his mother and sister are likely among the victims and eventually lets out Ocular Gushers.
• Hamtaro: From time to time, the titular character and his hamster pals are occasionally prone to doing this at the drop of a hat.
  • In "I'm Worried About Sis!", the hamsters are tearful when Sandy is taken to see the doctor after catching a cold.
  • There's a LOT of group crying in "I'm Parting, Clubhouse!". First, it seems that Hamtaro is moving away, then it escalates into Tears of Joy later on when it turns out he's not. (However, during that scene, Dexter and Howdy mistake Boss's Manly Tears as joyful, when they are actually Tears of Remorse, due to Boss having made a mistake in trying to woo Bijou.) The hamsters later cry again when Boss leaves.
• The 139th episode of Kamisama Minarai: Himitsu no Cocotama has Kokoro's Cocotamas and Sui cry when they think they save to say goodbye to Kanna.
• Episode 20 of K-On!. Knowing that this is their last school year together, the gang literally cries themselves to sleep.
• The train station scene from episode 11 of the second season of Love Live! involves all 9 members of µ's sobbing hysterically due to them breaking up after their final performance.
  • Additionally, an earlier episode has a scene where Kotori, Eli, Hanayo, Nico, and Umi are shown crying over a sad movie they were watching.
• Midnight Horror School: In "Teacher's Day" Inky's speech causes all the students to break down in tears.
• Mobile Suit Gundam: The entire crew of the White Base cries after Ryu sacrifices himself to save the crew.
• Mysteria Friends: Hanna's determined speech to bring Anna and Grea back together that she gives her team of students causes streams of tears to come from all of their eyes.
• In Oyaji, one of the most emotional scenes in series, Oyaji, his wife and two children decide to sleep all in the same room, Oyaji and his wife have a heart-to-heart talk where they sincerely thank each other for being their spouse, for both previously emotionally tortured people to form such a beautiful family, their children Yosuke and Kumiko silently cry while hearing their parents say this.
• Pokémon: The Series:
  • All of Gary Oak's cheerleaders cry whenever Gary loses a match.
    Misty: If I cried every time Ash lost, I'd be waterlogged.
  • Pokémon: The First Movie: Ash is turned to stone when caught in Mewtwo and Mew's crossfire, causing all Pokemon - both clone and original - to cry. Their tears revive him.
  • In Pokémon 4Ever, everyone cries when they realize Celebi has died.
  • In Pokémon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, it happens again when Ash appears to have died trying to save his Pokemon. Once again, he comes back moments later due to their tears.
• Parodied in the first episode of Puni Puni Poemy. When all the girls cry in the living room, Itsue Aasu suddenly dons her scantly-clad outfit and wielding her whip around telling everyone to knock it off.
• In Episode 19 of Stellvia of the Universe, four of the five main girls cry; first one by one, eventually altogether.
  • And if that wasn't enough, Shirase does this to the entire expedition team with her farewell speech during episode 13.
• Tamagotchi: The Movie: Literally everyone on Tamagotchi Planet (as well as the planet itself) cries when a giant fireball has seemingly engulfed the rocket Mametchi's gang was in.
• The people at Toei Animation seem to love this trope:
  • Practically a tradition in the Pretty Cure franchise. You're pretty much guaranteed to see a scene like this at least once a season whether in the show itself or a Non-Serial Movie.
    • All the girls cry near the end of Pretty Cure All Stars DX3... twice!
    • The main girls from Glitter Force cry together quite a bit during the show's run. And you thought only Yayoi/Cure Peace was the crybaby.
    • In episode #16 ("A Rapidly Approaching Danger! Yukari and Rio!") of KiraKira★Pretty Cure à la Mode, Yukari's creepy-looking fan club are "deeply moved" after seeing her dolphin shaped daifuku. They even wipe their tears with "Yukari Love" embroidered handkerchiefs.
  • Happens a few times on Sailor Moon:
    • In the first season of the 90's anime, Sailors Moon, Mercury and Mars cry with Naru when her crush, Nephrite, dies.
    • In the R movie, the scene with the Senshi and Tuxedo Mask all surrounding the deceased Usagi (with Rei shaking Usagi to try to wake her up to no success)...just before Mamoru brings her back to life thanks to Fiore's sacrifice, causing all of them to break out in tears.
    • In SuperS, Usagi telling Nehelenia that she can't imagine living as lonely and sad as she did (after Nehelenia explains her Freudian Excuse and Start of Darkness), then sweetly begging her to let go of the others and focus only on her, if she truly wants revenge. And then we see the Magic Mirrors the Senshi are trapped in and every single one (even the Outers) are weeping as they foresee Usagi's upcoming Heroic Sacrifice. Heck, even the brainwashed Mamoru cries, which saves him from his brainwashing.
    • In Sailor Moon Crystal, Sailors Mercury, Mars Jupiter and Venus all cry when the four generals were destroyed by Queen Metalia's death beam after having their memories restored.
  • The death of the Going Merry in One Piece. Everyone, including the supporting cast of the arc, is shown crying (except for Sanji and Zoro, but they never cry at anything).
    • Donquixote Doflamingo's defeat at the end of the Dressrosa arc gets an entire town weeping Tears of Joy.
  • Digimon Adventure:
    • When Leomon gets destroyed, Joe, Mimi and even his rival Ogremon were in tears.
    • In the final episode we see most of the Digidestined and their Digimon cry, one scene at a time, as they both say farewell and return to the real world.
  • Ojamajo Doremi has plenty of these moments, particularly most of the season finales and the end of the Mo~tto movie.
  • Powerpuff Girls Z:
    • The Kabuki Monster^note Reinhold the Comedian in the English dub. tries to invoke this trope by firing beams from his eyes that make people cry torrents of tears.
    • Blossom, Bubbles, Buttercup, and Ken all shed tears after Peach gives up his white chemical Z waves before the final battle with Him.
