** There is a noteworthy divide on the left between a larger group on the left advocating for a one state solution[[note]]where Israel is entirely subsumed into a secular Palestine governed by a constitution offering equal rights to both Jews and Palestinians[[/note]], and a smaller group[[note]]primarily tied to old school social democratic, Labour Zionist, and moderate democratic socialist currents[[/note]] that supports the two solution and is even supportive of Zionism to a degree. This is because of the perception in these circles that "New Antisemitism" is a legitimate issue on the left, that a fully pro-Palestinian platform would not garner much support in America, where the population leans strongly pro-Israel, that Zionism cannot entirely be seen as a settler-colonial ideology, that the one state solution is unfeasible and/or naive as it stands, and that groups like Hamas would always oppose any secular constitution providing any rights to Jews. This divide became very apparent following the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas with the leftists supporting a two-state solution prioritizing the return of hostages captured by Hamas over a ceasefire and supporting some of Israel's war aims, with said leftists accusing the rest of the left of supposedly showing a lack of concern to any threat posed by Hamas to any peace process regardless of legitimate critiques that could be made about either the Netanyahu government or the proportionality of Israel's response.

* Throughout the 1960s, a civil war happened in North Yemen after a republican coup d'etat against the monarchist government. The Arab monarchies supported the toppled Yemeni monarchy whereas the Arab nationalist republic of Egypt backed the now ruling Yemeni Republic which they were victorious in the war. Around the same time, a Marxist-Leninist government was established in South Yemen which led to the Arab monarchies to begrudgingly support the ruling Yemen Arab Republic against the more radical communist South Yemen since they deemed communism as a more dangerous threat than Arab nationalism.

* While there were elements of the Trotskyite left that did view the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China as a lesser evil compared to the US[[note]]Mainly, those that subscribe to the "degenerated workers state" interpretation of the USSR[[/note]], Marcyite Trotskyism takes it one step further. The ideology of Marcyism, created by and named after Workers' World Party founder Sam Marcy, posits that the USSR was leading a "Global Class War" against capitalism and imperialism alongside the Warsaw Pact, Communist China, and various anti-Colonial movements. In this "Global Class War", Marcy posits that all socialists must put aside their differences with the USSR and unite with it against NATO. Most notably, Marcy and his followers defended the Soviet Union in both its response to the Hungarian Revolution and the Prague Uprising. With the fall of the Soviet Union, the Marcyites continued to express support for both surviving Communist states like Cuba, North Korea and even China after its Market Reforms, along with anti-American non-Communist states such as the Islamic Republic of Iran, Baathist Syria, and Putin's Russia. Because of these geopolitical worldviews, today Marcyites are seen as synonymous with "tankie" and "Marxism-Leninism". For their part, the Marcyite parties(The Worker's World Party and the Party for Socialism and Liberation) have seemed to embrace the ideology of Marxism-Leninism wholeheartedly. That said, they tend to view Trotsky in a far kinder light than most other tankies and apply his "Unifed Front" strategy of political organizing over the traditional Marxist-Leninist strategy of "popular front" political organizing.
* The Falklands War was this on steroids: the militantly anti-Communist and (supposedly) pro-Western Argentine junta was at war with the also staunchly anti-Communist government of [[MargaretThatcher]] and received support from the USSR, Cuba and Libya by appealing to Third Worldism and anti-imperialism.
** Other Latin American governments were split on the conflict: the equally right-wing dictatorship of [[AugustoPinochet]] backed the UK and Colombia remained neutral, whereas Peru, Brazil and (most ironically of all) Cuba all sent arms to the Argentine junta, while several other governments in the region expressed their support for the Argentine war effort with words but not much else.

** One way in which Apartheid South Africa made itself marginally less of a pariah in the West was by backing the UK, largely out of "Anglo-Saxon ethnic solidarity", plus also being strategically an important ally for geographical reasons. (Before then, they actually had quite good relations with the junta).
** Certain countries, such as France and Israel, sold arms to both sides and didn't maintain a firm stance diplomatically one way or the other.

** During the UsefulNotes/IranIraqWar, China, France, Britain, the Soviet Union, the United States, the Gulf States, and a variety of other countries all gave more support to Iraq than Iran; the Westerners were displeased that a West-friendly regime had been overthrown (not to mention Iranian support for terrorists that killed American and French troops in Lebanon), the Soviets had been Saddam's main sponsors even before the war and stuck to it (which had a good deal to do with Khomeini's vocal anti-communism and persecution of Iranian pro-Soviet leftists), the Chinese wanted to both make money with arms sales and curry favor with the Arab states, and all of the above regarded militant Islamism of the sort embraced in Iran as a threat to their interests. Henry Kissinger is said to have said "I wish they could both lose." On the other side, Iran received support from Iraq's rival Baathist state Syria due to a falling out between the two countries prior to Saddam Hussein's ascension in Iraq (which also led Iraq and Syria to support competing factions in the Lebanese Civil War), as well as a great deal of weapons and aid from Israel, because both countries considered UsefulNotes/SaddamHussein a far greater enemy (Hussein in fact disseminated a notorious pamphlet written by his father-in-law titled "[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Whom_God_Should_Not_Have_Created:_Persians,_Jews,_and_Flies Three Whom God Should Not Have Created: Persians, Jews, and Flies]]"). Historian Trita Parsi has also claimed that Israel's bombing of Iraq's nuclear facility at Osirak was assisted by Iranian intelligence, but Iran officially denies this. Iran also received arms from Libya despite the two countries having very different ideas about Islam's role in government and society and suspicions that a prominent Iranian cleric was murdered by the Libyan government.

** In relation to the above, George Galloway, a British socialist infamous for transphobic views and populistic pandering to right wing sentiments, received critical support from otherwise social progressives leftists that would normally find said views abhorrent during and after his 2024 by-election(which he won) due to his consistent pro-Palestine stance at a time where Israel's actions are seen as extremely dispropotionate on the left, combined with the perception that pro-Palestine or pro-Peace voices have been marginalized in Labour since Jeremy Corbyn's resignation as Labour leader(and many on the British left would argue even during Corbyn's time as well under the perception that allegations of antisemitism against Corbyn's Shadow cabinet were primarily weaponized to purge Labour of its' left wing)

"Trans woman" is the preferred term in this context; also, fixed the line so that it clearly refers to the girl as John Evenhill's daughter

* John Evenhill in Nebraska, who was known for his anti-LGBT political activism, not only accepted but even endorsed a male-to-female trans to teach piano to her daughter. The reason? The latter was displaying a bit of a tomboy attitude, dressing in a street fashion, and neglecting to behave more like a lady (according to Evenhill, who feared she might become lesbian). But the trans teacher was particularly leaned towards displays of femininity and what could be conceived as "traditional gender roles" (she just felt to be a woman). Evenhill believed that the teacher would influence his daughter to be more feminine, particularly regarding dressing and make-up.
