The evil antagonists of SPOON, no longer pending our relocation to the Darth Wiki.
The hordes of Friends Of Really Kool Sobriquet, otherwise known as FoRKS or FoRK, stand for complicated and/or original names, as opposed to simple, succint and/or technical names, for tropes. Our rivalry with SPOON is similar to that of "Lumper vs. Splitter."
What are you waiting for? Post your name below to retrieve your FoRK Badge, join The Dark Side, and help us take back this wiki! Contrast with SPOON, KNIVES and PLATTER. Not to be confused with Forks, WA, where vampires suck and we dont mean blood here. Also, y'know, the cutlery.
Then head to the Crowner Activity page and head off our boorish rivals' ham-fisted, loutish attempts to rename tropes such as The Rashomon and others!
Attention, FORKS: We must foil a plot to rename a good chunk of the tropes in Everything's Better With Indexes!
Deus Ex Biotica, self-proclaimed holder of the position: Trivial yet Indisputable Title of Lord of Evil (TITLE)
SpiriTsunami, who still misses The Toblerone — and loves the fact that there's now a Just for Fun page with that name, causing a lot of misplaced wicks, especially those coming in from off-site. Also, wondering how so many tropes get renamed, yet Yuppie Couple stubbornly managed to avoid it so long.
Captain Thunder - The day The Toblerone devolved into B*** B*** (a title unworthy of even being mentioned) was the day TV Tropes fell into a lava pit and had all its limbs chopped off.
Paradoxical Frog here, who refuses to acknowledge any of these recent renames. The cool names are half the fun here, dammit!
Rayquaza7996 here, who is too lazy to have a contributor page but who things that SPOON is over the top D8 I like our trope's names!
Redlar, who learned a lot thanks to Tv Tropes having obscure pop culture references as titles and would like to see them brought back.
Crapface - I Believe That SPOON has gone too far renaming Instrumentality to assimilation plot and I want to bring back the clever trope names of old!
Civanfan - If people find the prospect of learning obscure words, concepts, and phrases horrifying, maybe they shouldn't be on the Internet in general, let alone this site. I see no reason to indulge willful ignorance.
Hershele Ostropoler - The names, and the idea of the sort of place that would have names like that, is what attracted me to TV Tropes. If really kool soubriquets are contrary to the wiki's mission, I'm clearly not welcome here.
Dick Richardson - Fighting the forces of anti-lulz and fun everywhere.
Wraith_Magus - Let us fight the good fight. And the bad fight. And someone else's fight. Let's just fight.
Masked Jedi - Comedy Through Superior Firepower was the best a trope name could be. There was no reason to change it. Except that people are boring. And they changed Reverse Funny Aneurysm? Those bastards!
To tell the truth, I'm forced to agree with SPOON on this one, just because I thought the trope you meant was about guns being very funny, not fast-paced jokes.
Vanille Mint mourns the weird and wonderful trope names that first drew her into the site.
Also, I noticed that the only reason that we're in the Darth Wiki is because we always lose. If we could trade trope for trope, then it would be a compromise, but no. SPOON has to win every time. We never get to reclaim a trope or get a trope changed to be more referential. We ALWAYS lose.
Dammit, does no one in Fo RKS know how to spell aneurysm?! And Sonic's quality is subjective. VERY subjective.
* shrugs* Copied it from a comment above due to laziness. Corrected now. But the iconic name of Sonic Syndrome will still be missed.
Bellona - If you don't know what the reference means, learn. Problem solved.
According to SPOON, if you don't know what the reference means, just use alliteration and hope no one notices what you did.
Xianpu - *sticks tongue out defiantly at the annoying SPOONS*
Spidey3000 - ...the people that put a link to my name in all those other factions were trying to trick you... honest. Totally not joining three factions at once here. Um... PARTY! Anyway, on a more serious note, the original, clever names are in keeping with the snarky attitude of the site, and should be kept clever and snarky! And they entice people to wonder about the trope name.
Wretchkin - They renamed No Purple Dragons?! Damn you SPOON! WE HATES IT, WE HATES IT, WE HATES IT FOREVER!
Flint_A looked at all the factions... and realized that rather than liking one faction, he mostly just hates SPOON. So Fo RKS shall rule!
Pita is upset that they changed Rape The Dog to Moral Event Horizon, and will one day write an intelligent rant on that matter. Here it is, today is today:
Kick the Dog was an act a villain did so the audience would immediately dislike him, that doesn't influence the plot, for example, kicking a passerby dog. Shoot the Dog would be to do something that's lethal to someone else (in a way that will not influence the plot) to make the audience dislike him, for example, shooting a dog. Note that L's death from Death Note is not a Shoot the Dog, because it had influence on the plot. Rape The Dog was an act that would not influence the plot at all, but due to its Squick factor, is more offensive than any of the others here. Moral Event Horizon, however, appears to be something you cross, and then the fandom considers you evil. Note that Evil Is Sexy, so this trope doesn't even mean that the audience hates you. GAH. There. Get it? Good.
Zemyla here protesting the double renaming of The Ruri, first to Deadpan Loli (because we can't have names that reference characters), and then to Little Miss Snarker (because we can't have Japanese stuff). Also, Morale Event Horizon, which was a good pun. I miss it.
Krieg, who is getting tired of all this "clarity for the masses" bullshit.
Diamonnes, who hates the SPOONs and their idiotic want for simple names. Our fight is eternal.
Isabel - If all the titles were simple and un-obscure, this place wouldn't be half as much fun.
Shadow Of The Sun - Who dislikes the idea that the title 'must' explain the trope because THAT'S WHAT THE FUCKING ARTICLE IS FOR.
Dominus Temporis - Wondering why trope names are changed for being "too obscure" when there's supposedly that whole thing about "no such thing as notability." Also lamenting the loss of The Catapult Turtle Flying Castle Gambit.
Azukar - Originally a theoretical supporter of PLATTER and KNIVES, but joined Fo RKS after one too many kool sobriquet was replaced with something Boring, but Practical...
Idraena - One of the things that I first enjoyed about this wiki was a single word: Phlebotinum. I had no idea what it meant, but it made me curious, and so I went to look at it. Honestly, I don't look at tropes I can understand without reading the article, because the obscure, punny wittiness, even if impenetrable, was half the fun. At least. I think I will be forced to leave if they get rid of either Phlebotinum or Crystal Dragon Jesus.
The Ultimate Fangirl - To cite the Bad Idea Bears from Avenue Q with just one little edit, "More Words! More Fun! YAAAAAAAAAAY!"
Twos Complement - The article titles should be as esoteric as possible.
Ilphae - What's the point of linking to a trope page if I can tell by the title exactly what the trope is?! Also I want the TheCatapultTurtleFlyingCastleGambit back.
reaper-angelique - I want my gambit back... *sniff*
Gendoikari1 - Metal Gearing? Metal Gearing. *finger quotes* Parrot Exposition */fingers*. I even managed to remember World War II Made Japan And Germany Joined At The Hip.
Bad Horse, who will never get over Spikeification, and can't really handle all the cool trope names are going, and yet we still have about forty tropes needlessly in Japanese.
Roses Spindle - Granted, my Nostalgia Filter is pretty strong, but it really sucks to go out for a nice long Wiki Walk and discover that somebody's gone and changed all the street signs on you. Sure, the scenery's recognizable, but it's still disorienting to say the least.
Technonarrator - This troper considered figuring out, enjoying, and laughing at the imaginative, interesting, and obscure trope names to be one of this wiki's charms. Changing that is heresy. Kill it with fire!
Caireach - Yes, PLEASE! Following the links to find out the origin of the trope name is/was half the fun of the wiki. (Also, is it just me or do the majority of trope renames to "avoid confusion" because "the source was too obscure" end up being vague to the point of becoming MORE confusing? Seriously.)
Spiky K, on the job. Maybe if they were obstructive to the point of being incomprehensible, but if you read the damn page, you'll get the idea. A trope should only be renamed if its old name was clunky — I've learned a lot of new stuff and new references from explanations behind "in-reference" tropes!
nnokwoodeye - They changed And Zoidberg?! I was trying to be understanding but if this won't stop, soon TV Tropes would no longer Ruin our Vocabulary.
egosuicide31, checking in, over. Originality must be conserved!
Popette - I love idiosyncratic titles. If you take them away, my lower lip will quiver, my eyes will grow large, and I will weep large, sparkling tears. You do not want to Woobie-fy me. The results will be unpleasant.
themercurialdead - The weird names are half the charm of the wiki. We must stop SPOONs advance...AT ALL COSTS.
samf359
Endangeredmonkey - If I don't get the reference in a trope title, I can just read the friggin' description! And then it will make perfect sense, and hey, I might even discover a new work! Even if I'm not interested in the work it's named after, titles with references are just more fun to say. Stop taking the fun out of trope names, SPOON!
Conversation Starter - I like wierdness. Also, it would be nice to see FORKS win, just once.
BNJC 1 - After what they did to Crowning Moment of Awesome, I'm hot blooded as ever. Not to mention, the charm is what makes this wiki so known. GO FORKS!
Why would they do this? It's HERESY! I'll go get the ducks, we need to test to see if these people are witches.
And I just found out that they renamed Hot for Student. Really? That name also made sense, to boot. Why'd it get renamed? Just to remove the pop culture reference? Jesus Christ, the new name is so... so... bland!
A Crack In Time - Where would the world be without original names? It'll still be here, but it would be boring and dull.
The Evil Oboist - Reporting for duty! If I wanted to have technical trope names, I'd pay attention in English Lit. Do we really want the wiki to sound like English Lit!?
Koori Renchuu - We need to preserve our tropese, otherwise we will be BORING!
Progeny Ex Machina - Technically more of a They Changed It, Now It Sucks type of girl, but aside from the vast overlap between the two around here, my favorite titles do tend to be the idiosyncratic ones, especially when they "match" other names (Morale Event Horizon, anyone?), fit into a "set" (unlike most on this page, I likedScrew The Rules I Have Plot), or are named for a quote or a character in a work.
M'sieur Lapin - Because we shouldn't have to dumb ourselves down just for the people who are too lazy to click on the trope and find out what it means.
The Game Master - I agreed with this more but almost joined platter until I saw the awesome logo.
Turtle Because newcomers can learn the site's lingo just like everyone else. And because sometimes things really dosuck when changed.
FurryFury - Signed. BTW, Crowning Moment of Awesome was actually reasonably well-known even in non-troper circles, and changing that is just totally unacceptable.
Hard Kor - Boring, Exactly What It Says on the Tin trope names make shrug and gloss over. It's the trope names that make me think "What the hell is that?" that I must click on and read about.
Frodobatmanvader - If you can't learn the references, then WHY ARE YOU HERE?
Somerandomdude - Creativity is at the core of the website. I will NOT stand for it to be stifled by the tightwads at SPOON! Really, even if you don't get the reference, what's unclear about Thirty Five Minutes Ago? And how DARE you even consider renaming Crowning Moment of Awesome!
Orkinman911 - Maybe we should just go and make FORKtropeswiki. Is nothing sacred? Well, except for the Toblerone, 'cause even after having it explained several times I still didn't get why it was called that. But other changes, what the hell? I keep clicking on stuff to find out what it means and then it turns out they just changed the name. Wikiwalks are getting to be boring.
Psycho Yoshi - Quoting directly from the Main Page:
We are not Wikipedia. We are a buttload more informal. We encourage breezy language and original thought.
Mr Zimpy - They keep laughing at me and erasing most of my It Just Bugs Me changes. It should be called It Pisses Me Off. Things piss me off okay?!?! I don't get "bugged". WHY CAN'T I JUST COMPLAIN IN PEACE?!
Oh, and now they call the fucking page headscratchers? WHAT THE HOLY FUCK TVTROPES?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!
FireYoshi - I'd side with PLATTER, but CMOA should not have been dethroned and Accidental Nightmare Fuel should not have been renamed. You Bastard indeed. Why'd the Crowners have to be changed? *Sniffle*
Case in point how awesome those names were: I just said hell to productivity just looking at those links, because what the hell are those tropes. Just like it should be. —Stardust Rain.
Fauxlosophe. It was bad enough before to see them try to suck all the charm out of the wiki's odder and funnier trope names which in come cases tipped me off to really good shows and generally got me into Tv Tropes but what they did to Crowning Moment of Awesome is unforgivable. Is it really that much work for people to click on the link they don't understand? What the hell SPOONS?
Kroozer101 is here, and can't think of anything funny at the moment but I'm sure he'll be along later to rectify that and could you please leave your name and card and do sign right here, yes, right there, thank you and if you would just make way for the next gentleman in line?
Boolean Earth sees originality and puntential as the hallmarks of a good trope name, and also wishes this roster were alphabetized.
Aranamor: They're fucking with Tropes of Legend. They aren't supposed to fuck with Tropes of Legend. Why are they fucking with Tropes of Legend?! Seriously, I was fine with changing the toblerone to a self-demonstrating, but when they touch Tropes of Legend, it's go time!
Aurora369: also, I want IAMNTU back!
Kraas: The genericization of trope names on this wiki stifles creativity and dumbs down the troper lexicon, rather than inviting new people to become tropers. We should not sink to the lowest common denominator, we should maintain a standard of trope name excellence and enforce it. Plus, generic names are boring, and often clumsy.
"You mean, 'someone is hard at work blandifying the trope names so that no one ever has to click a link and read an article again."
WackyPancake: So apparently, now The Wesley is Creator's Pet, huh? You know what, fuck you SPOON, fuck you, there's such a thing as taking it too far, and you've done it, for now on this little troper is supporting the Fo RKS. Don't let those boring, annoying SPOONS take over the wiki, AFTER 'EM BROS!
Blanca Leona: I miss Crowning Moment of Awesome and so many others. Where's the fun if I don't need to open dozens of tabs and waste hours of my time?
Cat of Nyan: Until I read this page, I had no idea how bad it was. S.P.O.O.N. has gone too far...
Trismegustis: Because every little change they make ruins this Wiki a little more. Yes. Ruins it. This website is about learning and loving fiction, not assuming-you-know and refusing to learn new stories. If you've got a problem with misuse, educate the mistaken editors, don't cater to their laziness.
foxmccloud4387: They freakin' changed This Is Sparta? It really IS blasphemy and madness! I agree with PLATTER, that compromise is golden, but this? THIS IS WAR!!!! For the good name of Sparta, I! WILL! FIGHT!AND I WILL NOT! LET! UP!!!
Strategia: Every time I go for another Wiki Walk, I find another half-dozen or so names have been changed. I could fling invective about that until the cows come home. And now the alt titles are no longer visible on the main trope page - seriously? I most strongly disagree with this process of turning TV Tropes into That Other Wiki [citation needed]. (Also, why do we keep losing and get pushed to the Darth Wiki when there are obviously more of us than there are of them? Isn't this supposed to be a Wiki [citation needed]?
fenixmagic - I came here because of Thirty Xanatos Pileup, I joined this side because of The Wesley. The creative naming is half the fun of TVtropes, and that's what keeps me opening new tabs. Not bland bullcrap names...now half the things that I joined here for aren't even in existence! ;_;
McJeff - It's not so much that I have a problem with the boring but practical names in principle, it's more that the boring names that they come up with suck. The Urkel was not an Extroverted Nerd, he was a nerd who didn't have the sense to realize that he was a nerd. And while we're at it, have you ever noticed how when they run a rename crowner, as soon as it tips past the "rename point" they rename it, but if it doesn't they let the crowner drag for months, rename by admin fiat, and then refuse to admit that's what it was? I'm talking about The Libby, of course.
BuccoBabe - Here because of The Wesley. Lighten up, fellow Tropers. Bits of color, and metaphor, and jargon are not bad things!
You see Seizure Ferret placing a red rose on the grave of IANMTU. You think it best not to interfere.
