A story by Nick The Swing.Tells the story of Heroic Sociopath Johnson Viandas, as he goes from a sociopathic soldier and mercenary who is called back by his implied abusive father, who has secretly gone Atoner, to deal with Phoebononian troops on the march. It is there Johnson finds a whole list of Xanatos Gambits and an encompassing roulette which is dependent on people assuming that Causality is absolute, if one thing happens, then a directly related event must also occur. The Big Bad, who is not who you think he is, wants people to believe this while he is working to do something supposedly impossible. Standing in Johnson's way are a mass of demons, some created by the Seven God-Emperors of Gaia, and others artificially created by Kall E Vaarnicus, the corrupt pope of the Nandian Church.Johnson is not having any of this conspiracy shit. He decides to spoil everything, accidentally playing into a Xanatos Gambit by Frederick to make Johnny boy a better king than Frederick. There is a lot of behind the scenes scheming, bizarre, barely related events slowly colliding as the plot becomes an insane Gambit Pileup reminiscent of Tsubasa Chronicle. With plenty of High Octane Nightmare Fuel present, though your mileage may vary, this series is shaping up nicely.New Dawn is a sequel, though you may not guess it due to the tone. New Dawn's sequel, Last Swordsman's Requiem, is planned to be an absolutely epic Mind Screw.Tropes:
