NJ GerhardtThe story follows the college aged JD and his adventures in discovering Aliens literally in his own backyard. After finding a mysterious plant in an alley not too far from his San Fransisco apartment, he discovers that he's awakened an alien banished from his home planet. Based off of the alien's appearance he names it Hana.
Slowly events begin to unfold and with an old friend of Hana's, named Liko Riss, they must fight an alien threat accidentally unleashed upon JD's family.

Aubren Beta provides examples of:
- Alien Lunch - Hana's dietary needs. He can only eat blood, milk, and water. He prefers human blood, primarily JD's.
- Author Avatar / Write Who You Know - JD (And his sister Tracy to an extent.)
- Bizarre Alien Biology - See Word Of God below.
- It's very heavily implied that Riss' species is a Time Abyss compared to most other known Alien species. They live upwards of 200 times longer than humans and about 12 times as long as Aubrians. Riss is about as old as the equivalent of 6000 Earth years.
- Fiery Redhead - Tracy, the main character's little sister.
- Half-Human Hybrid - Hana, through Applied Phlebotinum, becomes one. With 1/2 of JD's DNA. Eyrun is as well. Since, ya know, Hana and her are two halves of a whole.
- Heart Is an Awesome Power - Hana's empathic abilities. He's able to manipulate most peoples emotions to the point that he's an instant friend to most people.
- Meaningful Name - Hana, which is Japanese for flower. In his initial designs he had a large Hibiscus flower on his back as a part of his design.
- Mind Over Matter - Tracy. She's not too prepared for it either.
- Occidental Otaku / Cosplay Otaku Girl / Otaku Surrogate / Yaoi Fangirl - Tracy, man. Fit's ALLL of these.
- Official Couple - JD/Hana.
- Old Shame - Tracy is the author's Old Shame, personified.
- The Place - Hana and Eryun's home planet.
- Red-Headed Hero - JD, who is the closest thing the story has anyway...
- Rubber Forehead Alien - Riss. He looks fully humanoid, despite having pointed ears, red and white striped skin, and dreadlock-like antennae. He also only has three fingers instead of four.
- Hana counts as well. He looks like a guy painted green, covered in leaves, with two fingers on each hand. (His hands are built similarly to Nightcrawler's.)
- Shout Out - Several visual shoutouts to Little Shop of Horrors, Earthbound, Sailor Moon, and Star Trek.
- The Team Normal - JD. While he may be a outright genius than most people, he has no real powers compared the the rest of the cast.
- Unfazed Everyman - JD.
- Word Of God - Riss' chutzpah is shaped like a flower and "blooms" when he gets exited.
