Creator: Netflix
The former DVD rental service that killed DVD rentals.

Netflix is a service that provides DVD content via the Internet in The United States, Canada, parts of Latin America, the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, the Nordic countries, and Ireland; and via the U.S. Postal Service in the United States. Their streamed content ("Instant Play", "Watch Instantly", or "Netflix Instant Play") can be viewed via Windows, Chromebook, and Mac OS X computers and certain Linux distros, as well as internet-connected game consoles, Blu-ray-Disc players, smartphones tablets, TiVo, and set-top streaming boxes such as Apple TV and Roku.

Available content includes both television shows and movies. On the television front, Netflix was and still is primarily known as the source to obtain reruns, but Netflix is also making a heavy push towards original, exclusive content. Several of its new shows (including House of Cards, Orange Is The New Black and the Arrested Development revival) have been massive hits, with House of Cards being the first ever original Web Video production to win Emmy Awards. In addition Netflix has inked a big exclusive content deal with Dreamworks Animation for original animated production while Marvel Comics has made a similar deal for original Super Hero series like Daredevil and Luke Cage.

Netflix is so popular, as much as one-third of all internet traffic in the US during the hours of 7 pm to 1 am is Netflix streaming. If you want a measure of how important the business has become internationally, the treatment by Canada's Federal telecommunications authority, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) fits. In 2009, the regulatory body's conference on the the state of television in Canada had Nextflix mentioned twice in the testimony records. By contrast in 2014, the burgeoning media presence of that business was first and foremost in nearly all the presentations of that conference until it climaxed with Netflix's representative on the hot seat herself arguing with the main regulators.
