Creator: Mark Wahlberg

Wayne: Yeah, I thought Mark Wahlberg was super-sexy in this, especially with his shirt off.
Garth: What?

Mark Robert Michael Wahlberg (born 1971) is an American actor and former musician. After a troubled youth that saw numerous brushes with Johnny Law, Wahlberg's older brother Donnie (of the New Kids on the Block) arranged an entry-point into the music business (though personal agreements made him decide against permanently joining the New Kids). Now styling himself as Marky Mark (accompanied by the Funky Bunch), Wahlberg became a rap star. Their most successful single was "Good Vibrations" (not to be confused with The Beach Boys song). This period in his career is often regarded as being rather Narmy, even by fans and Wahlberg himself. By the mid-1990s, he began to make the transition into acting, and became an even bigger success than before, both commercially and, with his role in Boogie Nights, critically. He even earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Departed. He was most recently seen starring as "Irish" Micky Ward in The Fighter.

He has also served as the executive producer of Entourage which is loosely based on his experiences as an up-and-coming actor. He's currently an executive producer of Boardwalk Empire.

The films of Mark Wahlberg include:

Tropes related to Mark Wahlberg:

  • Dark and Troubled Past: His teenage criminal activities, which included multiple arrests for assault.
  • Doing It for the Art: He went far out of his way to get The Fighter made. His career in general contains a much higher percentage of serious drama than one might reasonably expect from a former rapper.
  • Dyeing For Your Art: He trained every day for four years waiting for The Fighter (where he played a boxer) to escape Development Hell.
  • Hollywood New England: Averted. A native Bostonian, he is one of the relatively few major stars who can credibly do an accent from there (others including Matt Damon and Ben Affleck).
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: He's the youngest of nine children.
  • Motormouth: One of his favorite acting moves. Watch his movies, you'll see it.
  • Mr. Fanservice: He made great use of his terrific physique to get his career off the ground, most famously in ads for Calvin Klein.
  • Not Even Bothering with the Accent: Possibly wisely, Wahlberg makes no attempt to alter his native accent, and just talks like the Southie he is, even when his characters are supposed to be from Chicago or Wyoming, for instance.
  • Old Shame: In a rare case of a musician actually disowning his entire musical career, Wahlberg has no interest whatsoever revisiting his career as rapper Marky Mark. In an interview, he described coming across a VH-1 retro-'90s special in which he appeared, and apparently he didn't find it as funny as the VH-1 commentators did.
Mark Wahlberg: Oh my God, how am I going to explain this to my kids?
    • Though he did some self-lampooning in Rock Star: during the credits, his character says he'll leave rock and attempt to do rap. While "Good Vibrations", by Marky Mark, is playing in the background.
    • Some of his earlier films as well, such as Fear, where he played a psychopathic stalker, rapist and murderer.
  • Real Men Love Jesus
  • Shirtless Scene: Not infrequently.
  • Triple Nipple: He's got one, but it doesn't detract from being Mr. Fanservice; he's even called it his "prized possession".
