The Akatsuki from Yet again, with a little extra help. Click here to return to main character page.

Nagato/Pain

  • A God Am I: He has received some quiet ribbing out of earshot from the rest of Akatsuki because of this. Quiet and out of earshot because he actually has the power to back it up.
  • Adaptational Badass: In a roundabout way. In canon, the Rinnegan didn't really belong to him. The near dead Madara Uchiha implanted his own eyes into a young Nagato so they'd remain once he died, and so that Obito could claim them later. Here, the Rinnegan are something only a Senju or Uzumaki can really use, and Nagato developed his naturally.
  • Better to Die than Be Killed: Rather than suffer through the pain of dying by Hidan's curse and losing his soul to Hidan, he's given a Mercy Kill from Ghost and his soul goes to him instead.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: Just as he is shaping up to switch sides along with Konan, he's hit by Hidan's curse and has to be given a Mercy Kill by Ghost so his soul doesn't end up in Hidan's hands.
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: His reaction to the Land of Iron fiasco, said almost word for word.
  • Villain Has a Point: People all over watching his speech as Pain admit he raises some good points about the Shinobi System and the Daimyo that rule over them. They however acknowledge he's only going for an opposite extreme, looking at the negatives without acknowledging the necessities behind such a system.

Konan

  • Action Girl: Her actions in Take Two Round Two cemented her as one, given how she utterly destroyed Hidan.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: As Hidan found out. Painfully. She effortlessly trashed him into the dirt after he badmouthed her one too many.
  • In-Series Nickname: Naruto has a habit of calling her Auntie, due to him being Jiraiya's godson, and the Ame Orphans for all intents and purposes being Jiraiya's surrogate kids.
  • Morality Chain: For Nagato; he describes her as "My only anchor to the world of humans."
  • Not So Stoic: One of Naruto's Stage Two clones manages to piss her off enough that she loses her cool for once and tries to kill him.
  • Sole Survivor: Like she initially was in canon, she is the sole living member of the Ame Orphan trio, as Yahiko still died to Hanzo before the series began, and Nagato had to be mercy killed by Ghost after being cursed by Hidan.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Nagato, and he knows it.

Itachi Uchiha

  • Adaptational Dumbass: Played with, as the actions and thought behind said actions are the same, but the outcome is different, causing the former to be viewed in a more unfavorable light.
    • Canon wise, Itachi's plan for Sasuke did ultimately work out in the end, albeit with some minor hiccups. Even though Obito had aimed him at Konoha and Shisui's eye was used to free the Edo-Tensei'd Itachi rather than on Sasuke, Sasuke did get closure meeting Itachi again and talking to the former Hokage, ultimately worked with Team 7 to end the war and, after a final clash with Naruto that cost him his hand, solidified his Heel–Face Turn, had a Relationship Upgrade with Sakura, and was Walking the Earth protecting Konoha from a distance.
    • Fic wise, since this fic regularly takes potshots at the events in canon post divergence, Itachi's plan failed spectacularly. Sasuke ended up joining Tobi in taking out the other Hidden Villages and, with the unfortunate timing of Danzo's rebellion, managed to capture Naruto and nearly extracted Kurama from him. Were it not for Ghost drunkenly discovering their world, Tobi would have completed the Ten Tails and released Kaguya, with Sasuke having helped him do so. Post Time Crash, everyone that hears Itachi's plan ends up calling him an idiot who Didn't Think This Through and is in desperate need of therapy.
  • Badass Transplant: During a one month break he took, he secretely met up with the Oogakari and Sasuke and performed an eye transplant with the latter, giving both of them Eternal Mangekyo Sharigan.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Some of his interactions with the rest of the Akatsuki and his conversations with Naruto place him as this.
"This coming from a child who recently make a small army's worth of suicide bombers."
  • Didn't Think This Through: Mocked relentlessly In-Universe. Multiple people, Naruto in particular, note that Itachi's plan to stop the Uchiha insurrection and make Sasuke into a hero by killing him was not well thought out, needlessly convoluted, and caused more problems than it solved. Namely, that traumatizing his little brother into thinking he was a remorseless clan killer and then tricking said little brother into killing him only caused him Sanity Slippage while on a quest for revenge, and left him an insanely powered psycho that could be pointed in Konoha's direction once Itachi was dead, with the only failsafe he'd left being Shisui's eye embedded in a crow inside of Naruto, that would have just mind screwed Sasuke further.
Onoki: No wonder the Uchiha fell apart if this is what they considered a genius.
Mei: It certainly does not paint a pleasant picture.
  • The Mole: The first of several Akatsuki members to be granted their original memories and secretly make a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Only Sane Man: Kisame outright admits that he is this for the Akatsuki.
  • Refuge in Audacity: How he managed to get a one month leave from Akatsuki. He told Pain that as Sasuke was taking his duties as Uchiha Clan Head seriously, it be an issue for Konoha if new Uchiha were suddenly sprouting up all over the nation and they had to scramble to get them. So he asked if he could take a month off to go around and have as much sex as possible in the hopes of making babies. Pain accepted.
  • The Stoic: Yes—even when having to sit next to Kushina. The only effect being violently ill has on his composure is to make his voice slightly strained.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Pocky—after he gets his hands on some courtesy of the Oogakari, he is almost never mentioned without it showing up as well, unless he is in battle.

Kisame Hoshigaki

  • Ax-Crazy: Subtler than Hidan but he fondly reminisces about killing his comrades and his fondness for cutting of peoples limbs creeps out even the likes of Kakazu.
  • Goofy Print Underwear: Likes to mug at his own reflection in the mirror when he and Itachi have their down time. Wears boxers with starfish on them.
  • Killed Off for Real: He's vaporized after Son Goku remembers his original concept and crafts a volcano in the middle of Iwa.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Lost to Zabuza in the Sword Tournament Arc because Ninjutsu wasn't allowed and Zabuza's sword has built in features that simulated Zabuza's signature Jutsu.

Sasori of the Red Sand

  • Actually A Doom Bot: Once Iwa turns out to be a bust, Sasori decides to not take any chances and ditches the body he had with Tobi and Kakuzu, so that when Tobi thinks he killed Sasori and Kakuzu tries to take his heart, it will just be a fake with a poison laced fake heart.
  • Badass Normal: Deidara notes that Sasori is among the most terrifying members of Akatsuki simply because his abilities come from puppetry and not from a hidden bloodline, god, or forbidden technique. Nor was it from the tutelage of a legendary shinobi. The fact that Sasori managed to become a respected member of the group through a fairly common branch of ninjutsu is in hindsight nothing short of astounding. In fact, it's noted in the narrative that if weren't for his notorious impatience, he'd probably be the smartest one there.
  • Body Surf: Before the attack on Iwagakure, Sasori took a page from his ex-partner Orochimaru and transferred his core into the body of the Third Kazekage. Except not. While he used the Third Kazekage as his main body, his core was still in the Scorpion puppet hidden amidst his army of puppets, so when the Third Kazekage puppet is vaporized by Onoki's dust release, he manages to survive albeit left in his weakened Scorpion.
  • Combat Compliment: Was highly impressed by Kankuro's innovations with his puppets and his skill as a puppeteer, to the point that he told him straight to his face that he had potential.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: He realizes Akatsuki's plans are doomed and the organization is a sinking ship as they start to lose Iwa, so he fakes his death and runs off on his own.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In canon, he was the first Akatsuki member to die, being killed by Sakura and Chiyo. Here, he's one of the sole living members, alongside Kakuzu and Tobi.
  • The Stoic: Seems to be a club between himself, Kakuzu and Itachi among the lesser three pairings.

Deidara

  • Can't Hold His Liquor: Apparently the reason most Akatsuki members know how to deal with large amounts of explosives is thanks to one time he got very drunk...
  • Killed Off for Real: Shredded by a number of Naruto’s Sky Style tornadoes. The narration calls it anti climatic despite the level of detail in its description.

Hidan

  • Adaptational Badass: He got possessed by a god and while the connection is now severed, he is apparently a lot more powerful and knowledgeable than he was before. Its been stated that he's graduated from being Akatsuki's weakest member to the most dangerous.
  • Ascended Extra: Hidan has gone from a simple Arc Villain in canon into the biggest threat to any of the characters after being possessed by a god.
  • Butt-Monkey: Somewhat of the Akatsuki. He's the most likely to get made fun of, at one point he gets chopped up and then scattered all over a forest, and then attacked by a crow, and he also was on the receiving end of a completely devastating Curb-Stomp Battle from Konan. Note that this does not make him any weaker than most of Akatsuki; he's still a terrifying force to fight.
  • Dragon Ascendant: Played with. He isn't The Dragon to either Tobi or Nagato, those roles belong to Zetsu and Konan respectively, however he ultimately usurps both in threat level after he becomes an Acolyte to an actual God. Even when Kaguya wakes up in the midst of the war in Iwa, Hidan is considered the bigger threat by Naruto and the Oogakari, precisely because of how dangerous him becoming an Acolyte is for the world.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: It's mentioned just before his duel against Konan that he's this for Akatsuki as a whole.
  • Hero Killer: He's responsible for the death of not only Sai, but Nagato too. He also is all but responsible for the untimely death of Gai.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: He's still practically immortal, but its made even worse after he gets Gai killed. Since Lee, Kin, and Neji vow to kill Hidan themselves while in front of Crypt, Crypt's designation as Contract makes it so that Hidan cannot be somehow killed by anyone but them. This backfires later on when Naruto has to fight Hidan in Iwa, as all Naruto can do is simply hold his own, eventually being left with no choice but to try and evict Hidan from the planet and bar him from reentry. And it still fails.
  • Not Himself: Hidan is fundamentally changed after the god possessed him. While he still has Hidan's behaviors and personality, he is less Hidan and more the fragment of the god possessing Hidan and being influenced by his host body's behavior. His true identity is simply referred to as Empathy, after the god he was possessed by.
  • Too Dumb to Live: While not technically, given his immortality, he makes several vulgar comments about Konan, to her face, in front of Nagato. Needless to say, he gets his ass handed to him hard.

Kakuzu

  • Delayed Reaction: Had a brief moment of this after taking a heart from Hidan to restock after a fight since his immortality would let him regenerate one... eventually, only for Sasori to question about the fact he hated Hidan, and now literally has a bit of him in him. Hidan found this quite amusing.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Kakuzu is willing to do anything to make a quick buck. Except work for Izuna Uchiha. The only reason he continues doing so after finding out Tobi's real identity is because Izuna's got him under a Sharingan genjutsu.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: He's gone from an Arc Villain in canon to being one of the sole surviving members of Akatsuki.

Tobi/"Madara"

  • Abhorrent Admirer: He had a thing for Mito, and even tried to rape her at least three times. Luckily, thanks to Tobirama, he never succeeded.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Unlike the tight bond he had with Madara in canon, here it's plainly clear that Izuna actually hated his brother and just put on the airs of caring about him. Madara did genuinely care about Izuna... until the bastard brainwashed him into betraying Konoha. After Madara's revived, removing the brainwashing, it's all but stated that he wants to kill Izuna for his actions.
    • He didn't really have a relationship with Hashirama in canon, other than disliking him and distrusting him for being a Senju. Here, Hashirama is his second Arch-Enemy and the two do not like each other at all.
    • Subverted with Tobirama. The two of them hated each other in canon, the only difference here is that we get to see some of why that is. If anything, they hate each other even more than they did in canon.
  • Adaptational Badass: He has the Yin half of Kurama in him, rather than it being sealed with Minato this time.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Not Tobi, but rather the identity behind the mask. Tobi's actions are the same as canon, but the identity behind mask and their reasoning makes them worse than their canon identity. In canon, he was Obito Uchiha, a Well-Intentioned Extremist hoping to create the Infinite Tsukuyomi under the belief it would put everyone in a world of dreams where they can be happy. Here, he's Izuna Uchiha. While Izuna was a rather zealous member of the Uchiha family, his dying words even solidifying Madara's path in life, here he is explicitly described as worse than Madara in every way, and his ultimate goal as Tobi was attempting to claim Kaguya's power for himself, painting him more as an Omnicidal Maniac.
  • Always Second Best: To Madara. Madara was always praised for his combat ability and leadership qualities. Izuna was always in his shadow, when he wasn't being outright reviled for his warmongering and cruelty.
  • An Arm and a Leg: During his fight with Kushina, his arm is torn off by her chains. He quickly regenerates it though with Kurama's Yin Chakra. Kushina then responded by tearing off his other arm, and ensnaring him in her chains. He tried to regenerate it again but as a claw, only for her to ensnare it in even more chains.
  • Arch-Enemy: He's the real nemesis of the Senju brothers. Hashirama hates him for sabotaging the peace talks between the Senju and the Uchiha, his creepy obsession with Hashirama's wife Mito, and for what he did to Madara. Tobirama just plain hated him since the day they first met, and all of the above points just reinforced that. The feeling is more than mutual on Izuna's end: he gets into a vicious row with Hashirama when they meet again in the story, and the only reason Izuna didn't run off to pick a fight with Tobirama after learning he had been revived too is because Tobirama was in Ame at the time, which would've basically guaranteed his enemy victory.
  • Badass Transplant: His right Sharingan isn't his own, but Obito's. He saved Obito and let him develop it so he could steal it for himself.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: He is hopelessly out of his element in regards to the greater plot, thinking that he is in control when Zetsu is just manipulating him. Even moreso when Kaguya wakes up and Hidan decides to do what he wants on his own, for while they're considered bigger threats, Tobi is considered more of an annoyance that needs to be taken care of. Even after Kaguya is evicted from the planet and Hidan proves to be only on his own side, Tobi is hellbent on making sure he doesn't go home empty-handed and tries to take Kurama with him, only for Hidan to tell him to back off.
  • Cain and Abel: With his brother Madara. While modern history remembers Izuna as the Abel and Madara the Cain, those who actually lived during the Warring States Era such as Kakuzu know that it was actually the other way around. Madara genuinely loved Izuna; Izuna never loved Madara and instead hated him for all the praise he got from their family, and eventually influenced (if not outright brainwashed) Madara into abandoning his dreams and betraying Konoha.
  • The Corrupter: Izuna admits that he manipulated Madara into betraying Konoha once he had enough of a hold on his brother's mind.
  • Desperation Attack: After Kushina and Kurama's Yang half steal back his Yin half's chakra, and the Yin half is conscious enough to tear his body apart from the inside, he breaks out a summoning jutsu.
  • Driven by Envy: It's strongly implied that his pursuit for power is at least partially driven by his insecurities over being Always Second Best to his older brother.
  • Eviler than Thou: Everyone believed Madara to be the pride of the Uchiha clan and the reason the Senju were at war with the Uchiha. He wasn't. Tobi's real identity, Izuna Uchiha, aka Madara's younger brother, was. Izuna was best described at the Danzo of the Uchiha clan, and that he made Madara look like the human brother by comparison. There Was Much Rejoicing when Izuna was thought to have died, but he secretly faked his death and manipulated Madara. His true goal was on a much larger scale than the war between the Senju and Uchiha: he wanted to claim Kaguya's power for himself.
  • Eye Scream: Twice so far.
    • An enraged Ghost rips his left eye out from his head and crushes it, leaving him unable to use Izanami. He replaces it later with one that can use Izanagi, only for that one to die after overuse fighting Kushina.
    • Both of the eyes he had during the battle of Iwagakure are rendered blind during his escape from Onoki's Dust Release, including the one he stole from Obito, causing him to lose access to the Kamui.
  • Hated by All: Izuna was almost universally despised during the Warring States Era, to the point that half the continent toasted to his death. He was the real reason why the Uchiha Clan had such a terrible reputation towards the end of the era. Even Kakuzu, who is hardly a saint himself, is both furious and afraid to learn he's still alive, and the only reason he hasn't tried to snap Izuna's neck himself is because of the lingering effects of Kotoamatsukami.
  • Hidden Disdain Reveal: For Madara. While Madara loved his younger brother to the point that it was ultimately his death that became his Start of Darkness in canon, it becomes clear during his conversation with Kakuzu that Izuna never really loved Madara at all and resented all the praise that had been heaped onto his brother.
  • Identical Stranger: Beneath that mask of his, he looks nigh identical to Sasuke. His true identity, Izuna Uchiha, makes this more noticeable, as aside from some scarring over his left eye, he looks identical to Sasuke.
  • Master of Illusion: He, not Shisui, was the first to manifest Kotoamatsukami, which he used to wreak havoc during the Warring States Eras. His prowess with it was such that he was even able to influence Madara from afar after giving up his eyes to his brother. While he wasn't able to stop Madara from building Konoha with Hashirama, he eventually managed to get enough of a foothold to manipulate his brother into betraying the village.
  • The Man Behind the Man: While he was still the real leader behind Akatsuki and was using Nagato like in canon, he takes it even further here. He's really Izuna Uchiha, and everything Madara did was by his direction. He faked his death and began manipulating Madara from the shadows so as to get to his true goal: the resurrection of the Ten-Tails and claiming its power for himself.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Still tries to pull this as Tobi. Thanks to Naruto and Ghost, no one buys it anymore.
  • Oh, Crap!: Once Kushina starts draining Kurama's Yin Chakra out of him, he admits to feeling fear for the first time in a long time.
  • Organ Theft: Like Danzo and Orochimaru, he's been stealing Sharingan from his clansmen to serve as a stockpile of backups. Obito's, he waited to take until it had become a Mangekyou though, before taking it.
  • Secret Identity: Who he really is is unknown to everyone but Zetsu and Kisame. Not even the Oogakari know who he is. Some things are certain, though, he isn't Obito or Madara. He saved Obito to let him develop his Sharingan then steal it, and Kurama and Kushina note that Kurama would have recognized Madara's chakra and resisted it. His mask is broken later on, with Kakuzu recognizing him as someone he hates, and Naruto noting he has a disturbing resemblance to Sasuke. Kakuzu later confronts him on this while specifying who he is: Izuna Uchiha, Madara's younger brother long thought dead.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In a roundabout way. While Tobi did manage to survive past the equivalent point in canon, it was as Obito Uchiha. His true identity here however, Izuna Uchiha, was long dead in canon, having died as a part of Madara's backstory.
