!Whateley Academy

[[folder: Team Kimba]]

* AmazonBrigade: Really close, considering that their team has only two boys. One was then given the appearance of a girl.
* AuthorAppeal: Oh, definitely. Most of the {{canon}} authors have written other TG fiction.
* BackStory: Every main character except Lancer has a novella or novel for this.
* BadassCrew: High school freshmen who have already fought The Necromancer and his Children of the Night? And won? Twice? Very badass.
* BewareTheNiceOnes
* BreakfastClub: They get together because they are put together on their first day since they all have a secret that makes them outsiders. [[ItWasHisSled They are all transgender, most of them against their will.]] Subversion: they rapidly become well-liked and considered heroic, after they happen to defeat a band of superpowered ninjas before the first day of school.
* BusmansHoliday: They can't go ''anywhere'' without getting attacked or fighting villains. This doesn't seem to happen to anyone else.
** Well, nearly everywhere. Phase and Vox managed to go to Miami without any chaos.
* CoolLoser: they live in Poe, which is supposedly the 'loony bin' dorm.
* ExtraordinarilyEmpoweredGirl: they're superheroines, for Pete's sake!
* FailOSuckyname: 'Team Kimba'. Never going to strike fear in the hearts of opponents. You can thank Jade and Toni for that one.
* FightMagnet: They get in fights all the time. Most peculiarly, all three times the group visited Boston, they battle The Necromancer and his Children of the Night. To date (Jan 2012), only one member has left Whateley for a significant length of time and not become involved in a fight or battle.
* FiveTokenBand: Played with in the reason they come together and stay together: they're the transgender mutants in their high school grade. Chaka, the nominal leader, is black, but comes from an upper-middle-class family. Generator is Japanese-American. Shroud? Not even really alive. Phase is a WASP and the disinherited scion of one of the richest families on the planet. Lancer is an Army brat. Tennyo? Her mutation has made her look like an anime character. Fey not only looks like one of the Sidhe, she is. Other characters around them include a hermaphrodite who is Lakota (American Indian), a half-demon, a Hispanic... You get the idea.
* GenderBender: Except Jade, who's finding ways to transition on her own.
* PartTimeHero: Since they're at the SuperHeroSchool Whateley Academy in the webfiction 'verse, and they're not supposed to be getting into superhero fights since they're minors. And they have classes they're not supposed to cut.
* PlugNPlayFriends
* ASharedSuffering: The original six characters (plus Bladedancer, Carmilla, and Heyoka) are all transgender in some way, some of them because of their powers, so they have a commonality.
* {{Superhero}}: Duh!
* SuperheroSpeciation: They're a pack of high schoolers, rather than an established super-team, but they fit this model. Like the JusticeLeague, they also have a wide range of power levels, ranging from Tennyo (so powerful there's a school rule against attacking her) down to Generator (can animate stuff, and now has regeneration too) and Bladedancer (BadassNormal with magic sword). The team has blasters, a PK superboy, a powerful mage, a [[Comicbook/TheAvengers Vision-like]] density-changer, healers, martial artists, and a fake deviser. And there's only seven of them.
* SuperTeam: They're only teenagers at SuperheroSchool Whateley Academy, but they've already beaten superpowered ninjas from the Yama Dojo, the Necromancer and his team The Children of the Night, and Lovecraftian horrors. Plus, they're not supposed to be superheroing, so they keep getting detention for this stuff.
* TrueCompanions: Not only are they brought together by a common characteristic, but many of them have the classic family issues: Phase (disowned), Generator (mother dead, abusive father in prison), Bladedancer (orphaned), Lancer (his brother sicked an anti-mutant military force on him), Tennyo (forced to leave her family because of assassins and worse), Carmilla (mother dead, father a demon), Heyoka (orphaned)... Only a couple of them have a supportive family. This true-companion group ends up shifting quite a bit. Carmilla forms her own, loosely allied team. (Sara's Pack). Also, it is stated in Jade's stories that Poe is designed to specifically create this, and Whateley itself has some elements of it.
* WakeUpGoToSchoolSaveTheWorld: This describes their life in a nutshell, what with the Boston Brawls, the Voodoo Wolves, etc. Still, the emphasis is a bit more on "Go to School" then with other things.
* {{Weirdness Magnet}}s: They got into more trouble in their first six weeks at Whateley than most students do all year. See also BusmansHoliday above.

!!Chaka (Toni Chandler)

Genki Girl martial artist who controls Ki

* TheAllSolvingHammer: When all you have are Ki powers, Ki solves everything. Though she has a very large variety of weapons.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: One of her skills is the ability to see Ki flows, so she has learned several attacks by watching an expert use them.
* Badass: When it came down to a real fight, there are about four people who've been able to beat/nearly beat her: Counterpoint, [[spoiler: simulated]] Majestic, Slab and [[spoiler: Little Bee in her remote-controlled attack robot]].
* BiTheWay: Less a true example than "Hey, I'm a girl now" and "I won't know unless I try."
* BringIt: This is the essence of Toni. She first did this when facing five superpowered ninjas when she was in a nightie.
* ByThePowerOfGrayskull: She got power gloves as a Christmas present from a teammate, and they have an activation phrase.
* CallingYourAttacks: "Chaka Chaka Bang Bang!"
* CasualDangerDialog: She and Phase are two of the worst about this.
* CherylBlossom: Sums up her relationship with Thunderbird.
* TheChosenOne: She's the Soke no Do, the future founder of the school of being.
* CombatCommentator: She can't help it. She's the only one who can see the Ki flows.
* CurbStompBattle: Her fight against Counterpoint. He would have won if he hadn't passed out, and Toni was really banged up.
* EmbarrassingMiddleName: It's still 'Mark', though she altered it to 'Marc'.
* EpicFlail: She's recently been learning how to use meteor hammers.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: When she gets dressed at the start of her origin story.
* FirstPersonSmartass: A light-hearted one.
* FunPersonified: She's constantly getting into silly adventures (being attacked by ''Tigger'' while trying to go on a date?). In the serious adventures, she's one of the ones constantly throwing out one-liners.
* GenkiGirl: Although Generator is worse. Much, much worse.
* HardWorkHardlyWorks: Definitely. It drives several other people nuts that she can learn Ki skills just by observing, mainly those who put a ''lot'' of effort into learning and hate seeing a new kid just picking things up in seconds.
** This backfires whenever she runs into a real master capable of turning her own reflexes against her.
* TheHero: She was at the forefront of the team's earliest adventures.
** TheLancer: Her role nowadays. At one point, some of the Tigers approached her hoping that she'd be the lancer to ''their'' leader.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: When she plays darts, she uses a board the size of a coin, and darts the size of toothpicks. Even then, throwing from the far side of the room will only ''sometimes'' land her anything less than a perfect bullseye.
* ImprobableWeaponUser and ImprovisedWeapon: [[DeathDealer Playing cards]] and [[FlechetteStorm sewing needles]], which she uses as throwing weapons.
* IndyPloy: She lives by this trope, when she's not actually thinking things through enough to be TheChessmaster.
* InstantExpert: She has the power to [[SupernaturalMartialArts manipulate chi]] instinctively without the sort of training that anyone else requires. When her powers manifest, she does the sort of thing that takes a master 50 years to learn ''by accident'', in her ''judo class''. In the ninja fight, she watches the leader do a really complicated chi technique that is supposed to allow a paralyzing strike, then blocks it and does it back to him, perfectly, the first time. Oh, and she paraphrases his [[CallingYourAttacks attack name]] (Coiling Viper Fang Strike) as "Something something strike!"
** Despite all this, she still needs to keep working on basics -- so in a sense, she has to learn ''backwards''.
* IShallTauntYou: In fights, her taunting is somewhere between SassyBlackWoman and SpiderMan.
* JiveTurkey: Often talks like this in a tongue-in-cheek fashion, or just to annoy Ayla.
* JumpedAtTheCall: She was a very unhappy transgender boy who finally got the hot (female) body she had always dreamed of, ass-kicking Ki powers, the chance to finally tell off her two older siblings, and the chance to go to SuperheroSchool and drag her new friends into mishaps and adventures.
* KamehameHadoken: Yet another secret Ki technique she's stolen.
* KiAttacks: Though she can't do the flashier ones from anime. Yet.
* MagneticHero: She pulled Fey and Lancer along in her wake when they first met, and then helped pull Team Kimba together. Since then, she's also pulled in more boyfriends and girlfriends than any 14-year-old could possibly handle.
* MakeMeWannaShout: She has a {{Kiai}} shout that projects her Ki like a weapon.
* MartialArtsAndCrafts: She has the superpower of Ki control, and has invented new Martial Arts and Crafts at the drop of a shuriken. When given detention, she invented (on the fly) martial arts mopping (instant cleaning by attuning her Ki with the mop), martial arts linen folding, martial arts grime scrubbing... She has used her martial arts skills for healing problems beyond medicine, like Doctor Heavy's inability to turn off his local 8-G gravity field (she turned it into a local 0-G field by accident). And she has developed all kinds of martial arts weapons for herself, including sewing needles, forks, playing cards...
* MundaneUtility: She's constantly using her Ki powers to do things like dry off after a shower, or mop the floor faster. She later finds them ideal for therapeutic massage.
* ObnoxiousSnarker
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome and NoodleIncident. Her fall combat final, against a brick, a giant, and a deviser/wizard, with a tornado and an earthquake thrown in for good measure.
* OhCrap: Her fight with Slab. She couldn't do anything except get thrown into the wall.
* PluckyGirl: According to her author, she was envisioned as "the anti-angst girl".
* {{Polyamory}}: She's dating Thunderbird (male) and also Riptide (female). Thunderbird doesn't know about Riptide yet. Riptide is lesbian and ''not'' happy about Thunderbird.
* PowerCopying: She can copy a lot of martial arts and ki techniques just by observing them.
* PowerFist: That's what the Christmas present is for.
* PsychicBlockDefense: She can use her Ki powers to close her brow chakra, blocking psychic attacks.
* RedOni: To Chou's Blue, as well as to Nikki's -- except when Nikki loses her temper.
* SaltAndPepper: Toni and her roommate Nikki.
* SecondLawOfGenderBending: Toni was extremely transgender, and greeted her actual GenderBender with unbridled joy.
* [[SassyBlackWoman Sassy Black Girl]]: Especially to mess with Ayla.
* SheFu: Specializes in this style of fighting. Justified in that her ki powers make it extraordinarily easy for her to do so. In her first superhero fight with a bunch of ninjas, she drives her opponent up the wall by dodging his attacks with unnecessary flips.
* SpiderSense: Her Ki ability lets her know when someone is focusing on her.
* SpiritedCompetitor: She's always looking for anyone who can give her a good fight and stretch her abilities. She mostly keeps it to her martial arts classes.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes
* SuperSenses: Ki. It's always Ki with Chaka.
* TakeOurWordForIt: Chaka's fall Combat Final, which won't be written because it's just too awesome to be accurately depicted.
* {{Transsexual}}: Until she manifested and got [[GenderBender exactly what she wanted.]]
* TwoferTokenMinority: She's a black female bisexual formerly-male mutant with hyperactivity issues. Is there any other six-fer on that page?
* WaifFu: She's 14, female and slender, but her superpower is control of Ki, and the ability to pull extra Ki out of the Earth. In the short story "Duel Damsel", she challenges a superstrong upperclassman who looks like a blond Sasquatch, because of what the guy did to her friend. She pummels him without even using her most powerful techniques. She's also beaten an unstoppable super-werewolf, clobbered people wearing power armor, taken out a superpowered ninja..
* WallCrawl: She also figured out how to use her Ki to stick to a wall.
* WarriorTherapist: using her Ki powers. She also teaches Tai Chi.
* WeaponOfChoice: Her manrikigusari (a type of chain weapon). And her meteor hammer.
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: Her solution to everything is ki. This bites her in the arse occasionally when she's facing someone who [[NoSell isn't susceptible]] (like Slab or N'Dizi) or who outclasses her by far (like Counterpoint).
* WorfHadTheFlu: Over Christmas, Chaka had to help Bladedancer fight off ninjas. While recovering from broken hips and confined to a wheelchair.

!!Fey (Nikki Reilly)

Elven Wizard of unusual power, possessed by an ancient sidhe queen. Subconsciously makes people attracted to her.

* AlienBlood: It's silver.
* ArbitrarySkepticism: Fey is possessed with the spirit of an incredibly old Faerie, and yet she consistently pooh-poohs Phase's idea that some of the (far younger) Greek Gods have come back and are now at Whateley Academy. To be fair, her objection wasn't that it couldn't happen, but more that Phase had no solid evidence to support any of his theories. Until 'Ayla and the Great Shoulder Angel Conspiracy, Part Six', nothing was proven.
* AttemptedRape: By a superpowered ninja psychopath.
* AwesomeButImpractical: Magic requires time, Essence, ingredients and (usually) uninterrupted silence and focus. While Fey is incredibly powerful and versatile, she can be easily taken by surprise.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: The crystal wavers found this out the hard way.
* BiTheWay: A much straighter example than her roommate, which is not surprising considering her glamour and powers.
* BloodBrothers: [[spoiler: She makes a blood pact with Carmilla.]]
* BloodMagic: More than once, but most nastily in ''Christmas Elves''.
* BlueOni: To Toni's Red. Well, [[BewareTheNiceOnes usually.]]
* TheChosenOne: But she's OK with her destiny.
* DarkestHour: The end of chapter 2 of ''Christmas Elves''.
* DisappearedDad: Her father and brother live in another state, because of her dad's important job with DARPA.
* DistractedByTheSexy: Fey has a faerie glamour that at first she couldn't turn down or turn off. Even the gay guys in the dorm were gaping at her.
* DoggedNiceGuy: Fey's boyfriend Stalwart, and his pursuit of her.
* TheEmpath: She's one of the most powerful mages around, has merged with an ancient [[TheFairFolk Sidhe]] queen, but also has the ability to read emotions around her. [[InhumanlyBeautifulRace Since she's also the most beautiful girl on earth ''and'' has a Faerie glamour that makes her even more all that]], this has a downside, since every guy who sees her has the emotions you could guess.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: It's that darn glamour.
* TheFairFolk: She was changed into her current appearance by an ancient Faerie spirit who now resides in her head. While she is inhumanly beautiful, in "Ill Winds" her true form is a luminescent energy form that isn't remotely human.
* FastballSpecial: Done with Fey as the 'fastball' once, before she learned how to fly on her own.
* FateWorseThanDeath: Has nearly befallen her twice so far, once at the hands of Nex, and once when trapped by Hekate.
* FieryRedhead: Usually pretty moderate as far as temperament goes, but she can get pretty scary when she's angry.
* FunctionalMagic: ley lines are a popular energy source for mages
* {{Glamour}}
* HealingHands: She can cure serious wounds with magic.
* HelloNurse: Not only possessed of the beauty of the Sidhe, but also having a Faerie glamour that (at the start of the series) she ''[[PowerIncontinence cannot turn off]]''—though she later damps it down. Slightly.
* InsistentTerminology: She's Sidhe, not an elf. She's also rather insistent about calling Malachim's Feather a scimitar, as opposed to just 'sword'.
* TheKnightsWhoSaySquee: Fey's InstantFanClub, which utterly embarrasses her.
* LadyOfWar: Fey may only be a teenager but her spirit Aunghadhail is one of the original nine Queens of the Sidhe.
* LifeEnergy: She can pull Essence from almost anything natural.
* LethalHarmlessPowers: She can pull life energy from almost anything natural. [[spoiler: And kill it, or knock it unconscious. She wiped out entire ecosystems without knowing it by drawing too much Essence from them.]]
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: She's light, Sara is dark.
* MagicalGesture: She's done some hand movements so magical that it hurts other people to look at them.
* MagicalIncantation: She's used the language of the Sidhe
* MagicKnight: Fey is currently training to move from SquishyWizard up to this.
* TheMedic: She's the Healer of the team.
* MenstrualMenace: Her first period at Whateley Academy is the stuff of legend. There were ''thunderstorms''. ''In the hallways''.
* MsFanservice: Especially after that photo shoot for that Sierra Club poster.
* MundaneUtility: Fey has enough Essence that she can waste it on things like magically drying her hair.
* {{Nerf}}: In "Ayla and the Mad Scientist", it's discovered that her powers [[spoiler: have been killing entire ecosystems around the country with the energy she's always pulling from ley lines.]] Because of this, she can no longer use power willy-nilly and has to come up with energy-saving alternatives.
** [[spoiler: and then Aunghadhail's spirit is apparently [[DeaderThanDead destroyed entirely]] when battling the remains of Mythos magic in two mind control victims. Whether this sticks, how much of her knowledge remains, and if she is still immortal, remain to be seen.]]
* MyNaymeIs: Her full name is 'Nichole', not the more commonly-spelled 'Nicole'.
* [[NewPowersAsThePlotDemands New Spells as the Plot Demands]]: Justified because Aunghadhail knew hundreds if not thousands of spells.
* OddFriendship: With Razorback.
* OhCrap: When [[spoiler: caught in Hekate's circle in ''Christmas Elves'' and separated from Aunghadhail in ''It's All In The Timing''.]]
* OurElvesAreBetter
* OurFairiesAreDifferent
* PardonMyKlingon: She sometimes curses in languages that haven't been spoken in millennia.
* PlayingWithFire: She once seduced the element of fire and had it do her bidding. She doesn't do this again, since the process is pretty embarrassing and the one time was an extreme emergency.
* PointyEars
* {{Polyamory}}: Stalwart/Fey/Bugs. Stalwart doesn't know about Bugs, though.
* PurpleEyes: As part of her otherworldly Sidhe beauty.
* RedHeadedHero
* ShrinkingViolet: When she first arrived at Whateley.
* SecondLawOfGenderBending: Fey exemplifies the justified version of the trope, as ancient forces are at work to make her accept her new gender.
* SoBeautifulItsACurse: It's a curse, since WordOfGod says her glamour is due to the ancient Faerie wards that still provide protection.
* SquirrelsInMyPants: The first magic that Nick (accidentally) does.
* SquishyWizard: She was considered a pushover in a close-up fight. After she was nearly beaten to death by a mutant ninja, she's been learning Tai Chi and learning how to use a scimitar. It appears to have worked rather well, considering her fight against Mule.
* SuperpowerLottery: She's one of the most powerful Wizard-type mutants on earth, and she has the spirit of an ancient Faerie Queen to teach her spells.
* WeaksauceWeakness: To cold iron and, to a lesser degree, synthetic materials. Yes, she can be defeated by ''lingerie''. Now that's a KryptoniteFactor.

!!Lancer (Hank Declan)

Super-strong invulnerable Flying Brick hero who uses a form of personal-ranged psychokinesis to enhance his physical abilities.

* AbsurdlySharpBlade: He can create these by covering paper swords with his PK field.
* TheAllSolvingHammer: He's a three-trick pony (his PK field, his swords and his trick of absorbing energy blasts), and while his tricks are very good, they don't change. Without his team, he's not hard to take down.
* BigEater: Like everyone with energizer based powers.
* ChivalrousPervert: He went through this stage early on.
* DualWielding: With his paper shortswords.
* FlatCharacter: He has no author, so he's not as developed as the others.
* FlyingBrick: Being a 'telekinetic brick' with super-strength, flight, and a forcefield that he's learned to extend a bit to cover weapons he uses, but no ranged powers other than picking things up and throwing them thus far.
* GrayEyes
* MilitaryBrat: And it shows. He's the most likely candidate for Team Kimba's leader and their strategist, and he's damn good at it.
* NiceGuy
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: He discovered the ability to absorb and redirect energy blasts at a ''very'' opportune moment.
* OnlySaneMan: He's the most reasonable and rational member of Team Kimba (possibly excepting Ayla, but Hank has a point of view more aligned to average people.)
* TheOneGuy: Him and Ayla, but Hank is the only one who actually looks male.
* StockSuperpowers: TK supermen aren't at all rare, but most find them hard to take down.
* TheSmartGuy: He's Team Kimba's tactician and the closest thing they've got to a leader.
* StraightMan: in both senses of the term.
* TeamDad: Especially in the sims.

!!Generator (Jade Sinclair)

A seemingly eleven year old girl who 'generates' psychokinetic copies of herself by animating inanimate objects for a limited time. When the effect wears off, the copies' memories merge with Jade's. The copies are named Jinn, Jann, Jeanie, etc. in an order known only to Jade but which never varies. She is collectively known as the "J Team. The singular/plural confusion is canon.

Shroud (Jinn Sinclair) is Jade's invented persona when her first copy (Jinn) takes human shape. Using props, she can appear as everything from an ordinary teenage girl, to a spooky eeriness and chains undead, to an empty black cloak. She pretends to be the ghost of Jade's elder sister.

* AbusiveParents: Her father.
* {{Asexual}}: A side effect of being stuck at the physical age of eleven. While she does have a lot of romantic fantasies they're mostly of the preadolescent, non-sexual "pretty princess" variety.
* BerserkButton: Don't threaten Tennyo. Jade will kill you.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: [[spoiler:She will nail you to a tree. With railroad spikes. Even if you're twice her size. Then she'll burn a message into your flesh.]]
* BewareTheSillyOnes: A prank war between her and Beltane could conceivably end all life as we know it.
* BigStupidDoodooHead: She's prone to using these sorts of insults. "Poopyhead" is one of her favourites.
* ChainPain: One of Shroud's weapons.
* TheChick: In part due to her immaturity, but also a role she plays to discourage physical attacks
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: While parts of it are just her having fun with her 'wacky devisor' persona, she has her genuine moments as well.
* CuteAndPsycho: An image she deliberately cultivates, and one her friends fear may become reality.
* CombatPragmatist: Anything is fair game, and she's the first Kimba to escalate to lethal force.
* DealWithTheDevil: She has a demon mark from the Star Stalker, and her link to said being is what granted her regeneration. Interestingly neither Jade nor Tennyo know about this, though Sara has figured it out and told Fey. The upshot is that she'll do anything for Tennyo, to the point that she's thought that if Tennyo killed her the thing she'd be most worried about is making sure Tennyo didn't feel guilty. Then again, the only reason she was marked in the first place was because of her undying loyalty and devotion to Tenyo, so it's a mostly benevolent form of MoreThanMindControl.
* {{Flanderization}}: Her love of Hello Kitty.
* GadgeteerGenius: She's pretending to be one (with Bugs' assistance) in order to hide the details of her powers.
* GrandTheftMe: A variant when Tansy used her avatar powers to steal one of the copies of Jade. Since she can cast herself into living things as well, it's likely that she could also do this to people.
* HappyFunBall: Her Kitty Compact. Shroud is also somewhere between this and SwissArmyWeapon: she looks like a girl, who suddenly sprouts chains, blades, and liquid nitrogen.
* HealingFactor: [[spoiler: She gets this from Tennyo -or rather, the Star Stalker- while they're inside the BIT-Splicer together. Along with a demon mark from Tennyo that neither of them know about.]]
* InterspeciesRomance: [[spoiler: With Thuban, who usually looks like a humanoid dragon. As she will readily tell you, his scales are soft when they kiss.]]
* JapaneseHonorifics: She uses these sometimes, addressing Tennyo as '{{oneesama}}' for instance, or Chaka as 'Chaka-sempai'.
* {{Kawaiiko}}: deliberately played up, bordering on self-flanderization
* KillerRabbit: She's turned Tennyo's toy cabbit into this. She's also something of a killer rabbit herself.
* LethalHarmlessPowers: She can put copies of herself into, say, a piece of wire... that could fly off by itself and strangle anyone. Or a grain of sand that could hear everything being said and transmit it back to Jade proper. Or a cloud of dust that could coalesce inside someone's lungs. She's actually one of the most horrifyingly lethal members of the team, because so many people underestimate her.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: Towards [[spoiler: Thuban.]]
* MissingMom: Who died.
* NighInvulnerable: As Shroud, or any of her other combat bodies, she's only vulnerable to Avatars and Psionic attacks. Inverted in her real body, where she's just as vulnerable as any other little girl but for her regeneration.
* OlderThanTheyLook: She's physically stuck at eleven, but she's actually fourteen.
* ThePrankster: Jade's powers lend themselves to it, the fact that she's slightly deranged makes it inevitable.
* PronounTrouble: That's what happens when you can have up to five of you at once, in various bodies.
* PuppyDogEyes: Noted to be weapons grade
* TheRunaway: Her father was abusive and a minor criminal
* TheSneakyGuy: Her powers allow her to spy on things, get into small places, and snap back at a moment's notice, so she often does recon.
* SociopathicHero: She's displayed some worrying tendencies towards this. Overlaps with CreepyChild at times, and borders on psychotic when someone triggers one of her {{Berserk Button}}s.
** Most characters who have had to kill someone were upset about it to HeroicBSOD levels. Jade has killed dozens of people in fairly horrific ways and she's fine with it. She also has a rather worrying fondness for weaponry and routinely carries dozens of varieties of high explosives.
*** Jade's sociopathy is due to a combination of the abuse in her background, her demon mark, the psychic shock of possessing a well-used sacrificial dagger, and her own lack of emotions when she's in her psychokinetic form. She's also well aware of her own sociopathy and it bothers her that killing people ''doesn't'' bother her.
** HeroicComedicSociopath: Most of her odd behavior is played for laughs.
** Diane admits that when she writes Jade, she purposely emphasizes the Heroic part less than the Sociopath.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Most notably in "Christmas Elves".
* SwissArmySuperpower: Jade can "possess" objects using "spirit-selves". After a radiation accident, she can regenerate. However, within the "possessing objects" thing, she has a variety of applications of her power.
* TagalongKid: [[OlderThanTheyLook She's actually the same age as most of the others]], but naturally comes across as one of these, especially since she lacks raw power and usually plays supporting roles in combat (not counting her 'other selves' like Shroud, since they pretend that they're completely separate beings).
* TechnicalPacifist: Also referred to as 'NRA pacifism': She alternates between wearing a pacifist armband and an Ultraviolent armband. Randomly. Her point is that you should avoid violence whenever you can. But if you can't, [[NoKillLikeOverkill deploy overwhelming force.]] She considers it MamaBear training.
* {{Transsexual}}: Of all the Kimbas, she's the only one who didn't get the physical change. [[spoiler: She gets it later, but not through mutant powers.]]
* {{Yandere}}: A (probably) nonromantic version towards Tennyo. Between her initial UndyingLoyalty to Tennyo, her later [[DealWithTheDevil demon mark]], and her mildly sociopathic traits it's more or less inevitable. She considers an earnest threat of [[DisproportionateRetribution decapitation]] to pranksters interfering with Tennyos date to be a restrained response...[[CrazyAwesome and then instead strips them naked]] [[MistakenForGay and covers them in pink glitter.]]

!!Tennyo (Billie Wilson)

Flying blasting slicing regenerating Warper extraordinaire who looks rather like Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo! as a result of how she gained her superpowers. She's so powerful Headmistress Carson has invoked Section 33 of the Whateley Charter: No student is to engage her in combat under any circumstances outside of formal instruction.

* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: She's ostracized because people hear 'Section 33' and think 'dangerous, homicidal, wantonly-murdering psychopath'. Those who get to know her usually quite like her.
* AndIMustScream: Fey locks her in another dimension during a sim, and after the flashback caused by the Waters of Memory, she recalls having been put somewhere she didn't want to be, implying that it'd happened before.
* AnimeHair: It follows its own personal gravity. Her flight powers work on a similar principle by telling both gravity and inertia to take a hike.
* ArmorPiercingAttack: She can make her energy blasts and punches strike ''past'' a force field.
* ArsonMurderAndLifesaving: in her origin story.
* BerserkButton: She's quite protective of Jade. And god help you if you try to harm her family.
* BigEater: It's implied that this is to compensate for a lack of proper nutrition, since her real diet is supposed to be demons.
* TheBigGuy: The main powerhouse of the team and the member with the most feared reputation.
* BizarreAlienBiology: Her organs and even her cells are different from a human's.
* BloodyMurder: Her blood has antimatter in it... But only sometimes.
* CaptainErsatz: Invoked. One character even dismissed her as a CosplayOtakuGirl before it became known that is her true appearance
* ClothingDamage: A recurring problem for her. Combat frequently leaves her nearly or fully naked because no conceivable supersuit can survive the damage her body can withstand. Unfortunately, she's also quite shy. Her HotBlooded nature prevents DefeatByModesty but that doesn't mean she won't be mortified when the fight is over. Phase eventually gets her underwear of last resort: a bikini made of three disks of pure adamantium barely big enough to spare her an indecent exposure charge.
* ComboPlatterPowers: Keeps [[NewPowersAsThePlotDemands finding new things she can do]]. Flight, ability to ignore gravity and inertia, super-strength, the ability to move through force fields, the ability to produce some form of ''antimatter'', the ability to cast spheres of plasma, the ability to [[HealingFactor heal frighteningly fast]] from incredible injuries, the ability to form some sort of plasma "light saber", resistance to temperature extremes, she doesn't need to breathe air, etc. She also has thrown some sort of energy ball that temporarily acted like a neutron star, she may be able to teleport (although she was unconscious at the time), she may give off deadly levels of radiation when she's straining hard in a fight, and in one battle against over a hundred armed badguys, she [[RealityWarper warped reality]] all around her and opened up a rift in space-time. Oh, and she may be the avatar of some extra-terrestrial or extra-dimensional demon. We don't know yet.
* CoolBigSis: Jade sees her this way.
* CulturedBadass: She's the Section 33 nightmare, who can take down anyone without raising a sweat... who works in the library and likes ballroom dancing.
* CuteLittleFangs: She's been told several times that her fangs are 'cute'.
* ExtremeOmnivore: She's eaten ectoplasmic spider-rats, [[EldritchAbomination voodoo wolves]], and the souls of demons. Averted when it comes to actual human food.
* EldritchAbomination / HumanoidAbomination The Stalker of the Stars/The Scourge/The Destroyer was one before it bonded with Billy to escape...something.
* FlyingBrick: She may have this as a subset of her powers, though it's easy to overlook underneath her flashy energy blasts/sword and reality-rending 'death blow'.
* FlyingFirepower: Flies, hurls plasma blasts, and more
* GlowingEyesOfDoom / RedEyesTakeWarning: Her irises sometimes go red when she's very angry. But actually, it's when they glow ''green'' that you ''really'' need to start worrying- that's when she's channeling the Star Stalker.
* AGodIAmNot: has this reaction when she discovers a cult worshiping the Star Stalker on a distant alien world: despite having both the [[PersonOfMassDestruction power]] and [[TimeAbyss provenance]] to qualify, she doesn't want to be worshiped. Eventually has a talk with [[PhysicalGod Sara]] about it, who tells her that divinity is what you make it.
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: several very graphic examples.
* HealingFactor: Don't blow her limbs off, it just makes her mad. And the more damage she takes the faster it works to the point where it looks like a near-instantaneous restoration from an interdimensional backup.
* HeroicBSOD: In "Ayla and the Great Shoulder Angel Conspiracy"
* HeroWithBadPublicity: Many students are terrified of her and even the ones who aren't consider her the superheroic equivalent of a Hydrogen bomb: a weapon too powerful for any sane person to even contemplate using. That's probably a reasonable position given that the Star Stalker was created to deal with Galactic Level threats, not mere planetary ones.
* HotBlooded: As befits her anime-inspired origin, Billie is actually the calmest and gentlest of the Kimbas - but once you get her dander up all hell is out for noon.
* HotLibrarian: right down to the reading glasses.
* HumiliationConga: She got her job at the library after several previous student jobs went disastrously wrong, culminating a "haze the newbie" incident that accidentally ignited all of the flammable gases in the campus sewer system.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: Tennyo has kept her teleportation powers secret from everyone, even Jade, because she wants to use it as an ace in the hole.
* LaserBlade: She can generate a "laser blade" made of anti-matter. How she makes anti-matter at will is a whole 'nother problem. The devisors and gadgeteers can't make working lightsabers, even though they all try, sooner or later.
* MarsWantsChocolate: Paid a fortune for a smuggled Hershey bar.
* MundaneUtility: Billie uses her gravity-warping "flight" powers constantly, she hardly even walks anymore. Phase has come up with a list of mundane utilities for Billie's powers, including repairing satellites in orbit and operating nuclear power plants from the inside.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: The Star Stalker/The Scourge/The Destroyer.
* NiceGuy: Billie's actually one of the nicest people you're likely to meet at Whateley, second only to Aquerna in that regard. She probably had the least amount of personal issues on Team Kimba after Lancer and Toni, until the incident that sent her into a HeroicBSOD.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Bill's brother gave him what he thought was a food that induced hypnosis. It set the kitchen on fire, nearly killed Bill and ended up drawing the Star Stalker to him.
* NighInvulnerability: Thanks to her incredible HealingFactor.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Her higher end powers generate hard radiation as a side effect. And if the Star Stalker starts to come out, just existing causes her to start damaging reality.
** Eventually it's revealed that the Star Stalker was originally created as a magical WMD to fight Eldritch Abominations, in the form of an ArtificialPerson. The idea of this weapon loose on it's own and having developed a conscience is enough to terrify those who know about it.
* PsychicBlockDefense: She has developed an immunity to most, if not all forms of psychic influence, including prying telepaths, the voodoo-wolves' insanity aura, and Sara's lust aura. Especially in regards to the last two, this probably has to do with the Star Stalker being made to fight (and sometimes eat) demons and other {{Eldritch Abomination}}s.
* RealityWarper: While most of her powers are ultimately based in this (for example, flying by ignoring gravity and manipulating her acceleration), they don't normally go into reality-rending territory unless she loses control of them.
* SecondLawOfGenderBending: Billie apparently lacked a strong male gender identity because becoming a girl was no big thing after the initial confusion. Either that or it was wiped out in her transformation.
* ShrinkingViolet: Billie is actually quite shy until she gets to know you, which other people see as aloof and feeds her "All Of The Other Reindeer" problems.
* StoryBreakerPower: Or she would have, if she weren't so psychologically vulnerable. And even she has opponents she's weaker against via [[TacticalRockPaperScissors rock-paper-scissors]][[note]]see her fights against Matterhorn and Jabberwock in Boston Brawl 2; Matterhorn's power had the side effect of deflecting her usual plasma blasts, and she couldn't even lay a finger on Jabberwock. Memeo, meanwhile was simply able to utilize her powers better than she could do to long experience with power copying and an extensive background in Power Theory.[[/note]].
* SupernaturalGoldEyes
* SuperToughness: She takes hits very well, even before you take her HealingFactor into account. At one point it's implied that she's survived a nuclear explosion.
* TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening: Billie barely survived her powers awakening, though if you want to get technical, she actually didn't. The 'Billie' we see is the Star Stalker endowed with Bill's personality, and its implied that the Star Stalker may have actually [[YouWillBeAssimilated assimilated his soul]].
* {{Tsundere}} shy, retiring, bookish, and God help you if you mess with Jade.
* UnusualEars - anime style.

!!Phase (Ayla Goodkind)

An intersexed density-changer who can become intangible, super-dense, or anything in between. Comes from a very rich family of notorious mutant haters who reacted very poorly to his mutation.

* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: A huge number of people ostracise him for being a Goodkind, or for being intersexed.
** 'Ayla and the Mad Scientist' has even more people ostracise him after rumours spread that he personally kicked Chou off the team. It gets better, though.
* BadassBookworm
* BenevolentBoss: He spends a lot of time criticising unfair and unkind work policies, and it's made clear that he'd be a great boss to work for.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Get him angry enough, and all bets are off. He has so many weapons at his disposal that you'd be lucky if he ''just'' killed you.
* BlessedWithSuck: At some point, he's going to be Circe's apprentice. And every single apprentice Circe has had died. Horribly. And Circe has always had the paperwork arranged ''before'' the death.
* BlueBlood: breeding tells, even though his family kicked him out
* BreakTheHaughty: His origin story.
* CharacterDevelopment: Early on he is often disturbed by his fellow Kimbas due to his anti-mutant indoctrination. The implications of Jade's powers in particular disturb him greatly until he learns their limits. He hides it well and he gradually gets over it as they win him over.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: A variation. There's the Ayla before Diane Castle started writing for him and the Ayla after. Chronologically though, they exist ''simultaneously'', because the Diane Castle version is a {{Retcon}} via AlternateCharacterInterpretation.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Jadis and Mal. Inverted with Tansy, who bullied him.
* ChivalrousPervert: He looks so much like a girl (because of his mutation) that he can shower in the girls' bathroom... and look at everyone else in there. On the other hand, he's really considerate of his girlfriend and his female friends, even if he's only about 15 and the girls in the bathroom haven't asked him to leave (yet).
* {{Claustrophobia}}: Has some degree of claustrophobia. This is pretty reasonable, since he's: been experimented on (i.e. tortured) by a MadScientist while trapped in a box the size of a coffin; nearly suffocated underground; been trapped in a pitch-dark sewer with no flashlight while being attacked by a [[ZombieApocalypse zombie army]]; and his own powers mean he can pass through solid objects ''but he can't see or breathe while he's doing it''. Ouch.
* CrazyPrepared: Though it isn't always crazy enough.
* CrimefightingWithCash: Only 14, still a freshman at [[SuperheroSchool Whateley Academy]], and already doing this. He's paying Whateley inventors to build weapons for him, including a utility belt that has nearly zero external volume but is chock full of HammerSpace, a specialized throwing dart made out of ''depleted uranium'', and the latest thing is a collapsing tactical baton. Made out of adamantium. With osmium for weight in the tip. It cost nearly a quarter of a million dollars. He is planning such things as courses in marketing and patent law to allow inventors (as opposed to corporations) to profit from their work. Apparently, many villainous gageteers are [[CutLexLuthorACheck just in it for the money]]. Then there's the job creation work he's planning, including work based on MundaneUtility. He's realized that persecuted minorities are more likely to commit crimes when they're persecuted (and thus poor).
* CulturedBadass: Raised from an infant in the wealthiest family on earth, he's intelligent, urbane, well-read, and loves opera and classical music. He's a gourmet, and a brilliant businessman. This makes him utterly unprepared to be a high school girl in a SuperheroSchool.
* DeadpanSnarker: Does this with references most of the rest of the cast doesn't get. [[SmallReferencePools They return the favor]]. Girlfriend [[StuffedInTheFridge stuffed in a fridge]], anyone?
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: As an appearance trope, it's more suited to pre-Diane Ayla, who was characterized by a 'punk' look.
* FakeWeakness: Phase deliberately included a fictional vulnerability to dark chocolate in his file on the theory that if anyone tried to "poison" him with it he'd know that his medical records had been hacked.
* {{Fallen Prince|ss}}: Once a member of the richest family in the world, he becomes a mutant and gets kicked out. He ends up at Whateley Academy hanging with the RagTagBunchOfMisfits that is Team Kimba.
* FirstPersonSmartass: Phase is a superpowered mutant rather than a PI, but in the stories in which he is the narrator, he is a [[DeadpanSnarker snarky]] commentator, very intellectual, well read, even for a teenager who has been to all the 'right' private schools, far too knowledgeable about food (even if he's spent his life as the heir to billions eating the finest food anywhere), and still associates with the other rich kids at the SuperHeroSchool Whateley Academy.
* FoodPorn: A big part of his stories.
* GreenEyes: Though the 'spitfire' aspect of this trope mostly applies to pre-Diane Ayla.
* GuileHero: He is genuinely concerned for people and sincerely wants to help them, and at need is ready to fight toe-to-toe with demons, monsters and supervillains, but Phase is at heart a {{Chessmaster}} whose preferred realm is espionage, trickery, manipulation, bribery and financial pressure. As a ''friend'' puts it: "No one else quite has that ''when I rule the world I will not permit such behavior'' attitude".
* HeroicBSOD: In "Ayla and the Tests".
* HonorBeforeReason: While he's a really reasonable person, sometimes he goes off on tangents.
* HurtingHero: Even more than the other Kimbas, Ayla suffers nightmares, PTSD, panic attacks, and sometimes goes into week-long depressions. His powers scare him and he blames himself for his screwed up appearance.
* IHaveNoSon: His parents disown him after he manifests.
** His siblings (except Heather) still care about him, though.
* IntangibleMan: when he wants to be.
* InternalizedCategorism: refers to himself as "a revolting freako intersexed mutant" though he does get somewhat better as time goes on.
* Irony: Ayla's transgender sister and her friends act like reverse HeteronormativeCrusaders until Ayla calls them out on it.
* ItIsDehumanizing: his mother started calling him "it" the minute he manifested.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Mutants ''are'' dangerous, do a lot of damage and need to be curtailed in certain cases. While the methods of curtailing need close examination and refinement, Ayla's not wrong when he says that the Knights of Purity are a needed force, though their crypofascist appellation is worrisome.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Having been raised by bigots, he had incredibly harsh things to say about his sister's choice to transition. About five minutes later he takes off the jumpsuit he was imprisoned in and finds out he's in a similar situation.
** On a meta level, his transgender Body Image Template is a direct result of his bigoted upbringing, combining the two things he was raised to hate.
** On yet another level, it turns out that his mutation resulted from a supervillain running a deliberate LaserGuidedKarma gambit on his family and his younger brother is the next target.
* LethalHarmlessPowers: Walking through objects? How boring. Being able to disintegrate matter by phasing back to solid within it? Not boring! Being able to fry electricity and knock people out by being partially solid? Definitely not boring! Being tough enough to slough off most attacks? Really not boring! Being able to trash the [=BITs=] of Exemplars and Shifters and turn them into monsters? Argh! To emphasize how "harmless" Phases' powers are, the only other person who has a similar powerset is Tinsnip, one of the deadliest assassins in the world.
* LonelyRichKid: Surprisingly averted; despite the high workloads the Goodkinds have, they all make it a point to eat dinner as a family and do things together.
* TheOneGuy: Him and Hank, but Hank is the only one who actually looks male.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Constantly grumbles about being the OnlySaneMan on Team Kimba, but really doesn't seem to mind playing the straight man to their lunacy. He's also genuinely hurt when he has to play the designated bad guy in the "Kimbas expel Chou" gambit, though he hides it well.
* OddFriendship: with Harvey "Mega-Death" Calloway, the school's worst victim of [[ScienceRelatedMemeticDisorder Diedrick's Syndrome]].
* ParentalAbandonment: When Ayla manifested his parents promptly handed him over to the Whateley's universes' equivalent of Dr. Mengele for experimentation. His mother calls him "it". You could say he has issues.
* PrideBeforeAFall: He describes his experiences as being "hit with a double-barrelled shotgun loaded with irony", and now realizes that on some level, he deserved it.
* PronounTrouble: Identifies as male, but mostly goes by female pronouns. The out-of-universe explanation for this is that Ayla's gender was retconned in long after other characters and the narration had been referring to him as 'she'. In-universe "Ayla" was supposed to be a SecretIdentity to prevent gay bashing which he ultimately discarded.
* ProperlyParanoid: between the Goodkind haters and the Gay Bashers, Ayla gets attacked twice as often as anybody else on campus.
* SelfDeprecation: Ayla constantly puts himself down, especially in the field of fighting- the rest of Team Kimba are so good he feels he's at a major disadvantage. Never mind the fact that he beat Chaka, nearly beat Lancer, beat Tennyo, and has managed to either win, get even if he didn't win, or get out of every fight he's been in. He's also one of the most potentially destructive members of Team Kimba. But he just can't get past that "revolting freako mutant" thing.
* ShelteredAristocrat: Born into the richest family on earth, and used to having his own way all the time. When he turns into a mutant and gets kicked out of the family, he finds out he doesn't know how to do anything, including use a can opener or a microwave. He has a coronary seeing what a real grocery store is like.
* TheSmartGuy: Probably the smart one, even if Chaka seems to be best at coming up with ideas in the middle of a fight. Phase is over-educated for a freshman in high school, is most likely to use the big words, and is a smart aleck too.
* StraightMan
* TeenGenius: Naturally; he's a teen financial genius, having been learning the ways of business and high finance roughly since he was able to talk.
* {{Transvestite}} Ayla has a large lingerie collection. He admits it's twisted, but he really loves the feeling of high-quality silk.
* UnclePennybags: He thinks nothing of spending money on his friends (when they allow it), or on anything he sees as a good cause. Justified, especially after 'Ayla and the Birthday Brawl', when he's the richest teenager on the planet minus some who are going to inherit fortunes.
** Still justified beforehand, as Ayla has money in the millions, and most of the expenses are in the thousands. He's spending interest from the bank account.
* UnreliableNarrator: Semi-intentionally. He's got a pretty good opinion of the Goodkinds and their works, but canon has proven that they definitely aren't what Phase thinks they are- and he knows it. Take everything he says about them with a grain of salt. It's justified because they are his family, and he's only spent about a year discovering the differences.
* UtilityBelt: The first character to buy one. The creator, "Mobius", had made a belt that had pockets that worked like [[BagOfHolding Bags Of Holding]]. Phase paid Mobius several times the asking price, pointed out how much the uber-UtilityBelt was really worth, and offered to help market the device for a small percentage of the huge amounts of profit he would be making for Mobius.
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: '''''Averted'''''. Phase is incredibly aware of the problems with his powers and how they can be countered, so he spends a ''lot'' of time buying or asking people to make new weapons for him.

!!Bladedancer (Chou Lee)

Handmaid of the Tao, superb martial artist, and wielder of the legendary sword Destiny's Wave.

* AbsurdlySharpBlade: Destiny's Wave.
* ActionGirl: thought she's just getting used to the "girl" part
** ActionGirlfriend: To Molly.
* ApocalypseMaiden: Not really, she's an agent of balance, but history tends to dwell on the spectacularly bloody incidents.
* BlueOni: To Toni's Red.
* BreakingTheFellowship: 'Ayla and the Mad Scientist' has Team Kimba pretend to ditch Chou so she'll appear to be more vulnerable.
* TheChosenOne: And is not happy with what the Tao requires
* ClosetKey: for Gateway
* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: Convenient for the Tao, maybe. Chou still has not gotten over her father's death.
* CulturedBadass: The immortals are specifically grooming her for this role.
* DifferentForGirls: The most prominent example as the least transgendered member of Team Kimba.
* GreenEyes
* HealingHands: Can use Taoist "chi" healing techniques through "laying on of hands".
* HeroicBSOD: In "To The Mountain".
* KiAttacks: She mostly uses her Ki for mobility: moving a great distance with a single stride, jumping, and sometimes WallCrawling. She's starting to use it for [[HealingHands healing]], and once she used it to induce a heart attack.
* ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne: Demons kill your family, you may have to kill your friends
* LimitedWardrobe: Most of her clothing consists of mandarin tops and yoga pants, for practical reasons
* MissingMom:
* OrphansOrdeal: After she was turned into a girl and her father was murdered by a demon she had to make her way to Whateley on foot, walking all the way from Tennessee to New Hampshire, and she was attacked several times along the way.
* [[spoiler: {{Polyamory}}: She, Molly, and Dorjee eventually decide to try this out.]]
* SecondLawOfGenderBending: Of the reluctant admission variety. Chou has the hardest time with her GenderBender aside from the self-loathing Ayla, probably because she's a baseline human transformed through magic instead of a mutant altered by their BIT.
* SixthRanger: Becomes one to Team Kimba until she leaves to set up her own team.
* StrongAsTheyNeedToBe: When the Tao decides to step in.
* TalkingWeapon: Destiny's Wave.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: gradually evolving into one.
* UpgradeArtifact: Destiny's Wave.

[[folder: Friends of Team Kimba]]

!!Bugs (Bunny Cormick)

Seemingly airheaded gadgeteer genius whose brilliance is hidden by her obsessions with bunnies and eggs.

* AppropriatedAppellation: "Bugs" used to be an EmbarrassingNickname for her, until Nikki pointed out how WesternAnimation/BugsBunny is clever and always wins.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: She's a brilliant scientist and inventor, but all of her gadgets tend to be rabbit- or egg-themed.
* CutenessProximity
* GadgeteerGenius: She's both a gadgeteer and a devisor, so she cannot be certain whether one of her inventions is breaking reality or not until somebody else tries to build it.
* GirlishPigtails
* HotScientist: A genius who happens to be among the hottest girls in a school full of superheroines.
* MeaningfulName
* MundaneUtility: She is the goddess of special effects

!!Riptide (Elena Neva Natividad Amicella Lucita "Rip" Obregon)

* ElementalEyeColors: Blue.
* MakingASplash
* MotorMouth
* MulticoloredHair: Black hair with a red streak down the center.
* [[OnlyKnownByTheirNickname Only Known by Their Codename]] Like Beltane, her nickname is based on her code name instead of her real name.
* OverlyLongName
* TookALevelInBadass: She takes on the Lamplighter in a one-on-one match and gets it to a draw. (She wasn't trying to win, she was just trying to stop him from killing the good guys.)

!!Vox (Vanessa Jackson)
City girl from a disadvantaged background who is determined to grab onto the opportunities Whateley presents with both hands and not allow foolish romantic notions to hold her back, right up until she meets Phase, who represents both.

* AbusiveParents: Her dad beat up her mother and her repeatedly. She's got serious issues.
* CompellingVoice: Well, with a codename like Vox, what would she be able to do? (There are other mutants at Whateley who are resistant to her power.)
* LethalHarmlessPowers: She can perfectly mimic someone else's voice, make them do whatever she wants and break glass with sound alone.
* MundaneUtility: goes way beyond singing harmony with herself, she can imitate entire pop songs with just her voice alone.
* OppositesAttract: Played with: On the surface she has nothing in common with Phase; deep down their personal goals differ only in scale (as in millions instead of billions).
* PurpleEyes
* TheSmartGuy: She wants to become a businesswoman and not end up like her mother (i.e. working herself into an early grave.) This is mainly why Phase is so attracted to her.

!!Wallflower (Lily Turner)
Lancer's girlfriend, a Poe cottage legacy who's the daughter of Superheroes. She's in Poe ostensibly because her mother Tabby Cat, a former Poe t-girl herself, is afraid Lily will Gender Bend the opposite direction

* BarrierWarrior: spherical shields, invisibility, and the psychic ability to 'see' when inside her 'invisibility' sphere.
* BelligerentSexualTension: She's the product of it, which causes her some AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents moments
* CaptainErsatz: She has the same powers, family of superheroes and appearance as [[WesternAnimation/TheIncredibles Violet Parr]].
* DominoMask: Lampshaded. Apparently, it takes a lot of mascara to complete the effect
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette
* {{Hermaphrodite}}: She was born as an incomplete hermaphrodite. Her male organs were removed because her female organs were more complete and her parents wanted a daughter.
* {{Invisibility}}: Being an {{Expy}} of [[ComicBook/FantasticFour The Invisible Woman]], she can do the 'Invisible Girl' bit with an invisible forcefield bubble around her and anyone nearby.
** Her [[DeflectorShields force field]] uses the light-warping approach. ''She'' can still 'see' from inside the field (using a sensory power she wasn't even aware she had until it was pointed out to her), but others do find themselves in total darkness.
* OpenMindedParent: Her parents, Falcon and Tabby Cat. Turns out they have good reasons for this.
* ThereAreNoTherapists: Averted. Her BIT is unambiguously female and the real reason the faculty acceded to her mother's desire to put her in Poe was they believed she'd make a good unofficial peer counselor for some of the transitioning Poesies.

!!Gateway (Molly Harrington)
A shy mage/warper who always assumed she was straight until she fell in love with Chou Lee.

* CovertPervert: Revealed in "Summoning Sweeties". Pity her girlfriend.
* IfItsYouItsOkay: With Chou.
* TheMagnificent: The creatures she summons call her "The" Summoner. She doesn't know why, yet.
* {{Meganekko}}: Oddly enough, what she summons the most often is a MegaNeko.
* [[spoiler: {{Polyamory}}: With Chou and Dorjee]].
* ShrinkingViolet
* SquishyWizard: who has decided she has to become less squishy, starting with LeParkour training.
* SummonMagic: her primary talent is summoning mystical creatures through the portals she creates

!!Ambassador Rythax

* {{Ambadassador}}
* {{Familiar}}: To Gateway. Sort of.
* FunSize: Can turn into this.
* {{Meganeko}}: His apparent ''natural'' form when not shrunk for human convenience.
* OccultBlueEyes
* PantheraAwesome
* {{Sizeshifter}}: Usually appears in cute chibified kitten form.
* TalkingAnimal
* VertebrateWithExtraLimbs: Wings.

[[folder: Other Poe Residents]]

!!Beltane (Kendall "Belle" Forbes)
Transgender British gadfly who got sent to Whately after suffering severe square peg/round hole problems in the UK Public (as in Boarding) School system. Manifests ectoplasm.

* GrammarNazi: Too many 'ands', dear.
* [[OnlyKnownByTheirNickname Only Known by Their Codename]] Her nickname is based on her codename, not her real name.
* ThePrankster: Belle simply cannot pass up the opportunity to prank someone. She's looking for a WorthyOpponent
* {{Trickster}}
* WhatTheHellHero: She makes a ''very'' harsh comment to Ayla that completely disregards everything he went through (the comment was 'Yes, yes, I'm sure it was all very traumatic, now keep up, we've got a schedule to meet!'). While she didn't know what Ayla had gone through, that's still a pretty brutal thing to say, especially coming from one TG to another. While Ayla didn't call her out on it at the time, he still gets annoyed thinking back on it, and wants to be a tour guide at least partially so he can do a better job in that respect than she did.

!!Mega-Girl (Marty Penn)
Geeky, scrawny fourteen year old boy who manifests a PK shell that makes him look like a statuesque blonde and is gradually changing his body to match, which Marty doesn't mind because that's exactly what she wants.

* FlyingBrick: Flying, super strength and toughness
* LeeroyJenkins: She has a bad habit of running off and doing her own thing, which is mainly why the Guard don't want her in their team.
* TheTeamWannabe: She keeps trying to get into the Empire City Guard, and they keep turning her down.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: She's only 14, which is another reason why the Guard won't take her.

!!Scrambler (Joanne Jackie "Jay-Jay" Jendleschmidt)
Energizer with a mouth that runs much faster than her brain. Imagine all the 'act before you think' impulsiveness of youth turned up to eleven and given super-speed.

* AlliterativeName
* ChewbaccaDefense: Whenever she argues with someone, it involves a lot of [[InsaneTrollLogic strange jumps in logic]] and not letting them get a word in edgewise. Not that that's any different from a regular conversation with her.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: does not allow anything -- rules, laws, the needs of others, reality -- to get in the way of her ideas.
* DarkSkinnedBlonde: Comes from California where there was no shortage of ultra-tanned blondes for her BIT to model itself on.
* TheDitz: Her heart is in the right place... her brain? Not so much.
* MotorMouth: She's a speedster, and has the standard tendency to talk at a hundred miles an hour and overlook what everyone else is saying. Heaven forbid she's talking about Stephenie Meyer books or something else she loves.
* SuperSpeed: that she has little control over because she has zero discipline

!!Delta Spike (Elaine Fleischer)
Drop-dead gorgeous gadgeteer, deviser ''and'' flying brick who unfortunately treats "GeniusDitz" like a mission statement

* [[spoiler: BrainwashedAndCrazy]]: Her backstory involves being transformed by a MadScientist who turned her into a girl. However, said mad scientist also [[spoiler: made all his subjects loyal to him, and while Delta doesn't appear to be affected, Phase has speculated that she might have been affected and doesn't know it, since she hasn't come into contact with the mad scientist since.]]
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Most people see her as the Explosion Queen who can't do anything without explosions happening. Phase speculates that her super-suit is full of weaponry and she's got an Energizer power that gives her a bunch of other attacks and strategies.
* GadgeteerGenius
* HollywoodNerd: Dressed up like a Type 2 in an attempt to look more professional for the Weapons Fair. Phase lampshaded the whole concept and speculated that she'd draw in a larger crowd if she just wore her super-suit.
* HotScientist: A genius who happens to be among the hottest girls in a school full of superheroines.
* NeverLiveItDown: In-universe, every time she blows something up. Phase doesn't want to fund her because of this.
* StuffBlowingUp: Happens a lot with her. Her creations are known for going spectacularly wrong, earning her the nickname "Explosion Queen" around the Workshop.
** JustifiedTrope: She doesn't observe proper safety protocols, or think things through.

An Afgani brick who is sponsored by the CIA and really, really hates men

* AmazonianBeauty: She's 6 feet tall and muscular. She wears tight, skimpy outfits even though she doesn't like guys ogling her. (She does, however like girls ogling her. That's why she is in Poe cottage.)
* DarkSkinnedBlonde
* DoesNotLikeMen: To the point where expressing concern for Lancer's burnout comes as major character development.
* HealingFactor
* HonorBeforeReason: Assaulted Tennyo for supposed cheating in martial arts. After she got out of the hospital she then yelled at Tennyo for pulling the blow that nearly killed her because she views holding back as a sign of disrespect.
* [[OnlyKnownByTheirNickname Only Known by Their Codename]]: her real name has never been revealed

!!Pejuta (Kayda Franks)
Part-Lakota GenderBender who is the avatar of Ptesanwi, the legendary White Buffalo Spirit Woman whose return foreshadows the resurgence of all Native American peoples and especially the Lakota.

* DoesNotLikeMen: Actually, it's more that she is mortally terrified of men approaching her in any manner.
* GenderBender
* MagicalNativeAmerican: Perhaps the most extreme case in the series, as she is bound to the Great Spirit Herself.
* MindRape: Cagliostro's attempt to seduce her using his psi powers led to her [[spoiler: remembering being gang-raped by her former friends.]]
* [[spoiler: RapeLeadsToInsanity: she was gang-raped by her former friends during their second attempt on her life, but had repressed the memories until after she arrived a Whateley. When she does remember, she has a full-blown nervous breakdown.]]

!!Vamp (Alex O'Brien / Abby Carfax)

A former Boston street hustler turned teen supervillain who plays up her bad girl image and was considered an enemy until she showed up at Whateley under the witness protection program. Tropes relating to her villain persona are listed with the rest of the Children of the Night

* CharacterizationMarchesOn: After she arrives at Poe some of her actions while a member of The Children of The Night are revealed to be either SpannerInTheWorks or ObfuscatingStupidity.
* CuteLittleFangs
* DepravedBisexual: deliberately played up as part of her "bad girl" image.
* FreudianExcuse: her backstory is just loaded with it.
* TheGadfly: to her roommate Ayla
* GoodBadGirl: Plays up the image but has never actually slept with anyone
* {{Hermaphrodite}}: The reason she was assigned to Poe, according to Mrs Horton. She was born intersexed and surgically altered to male as a baby but that was reversed when she manifested as a mutant and constant use of her limited shapeshifting powers to present as a girl has had a permanent effect on her.
* MacGuffinGirl: She doesn't know why The Necromancer wanted her as a minion and is very afraid she's going to find out the hard way if he ever gets his hands on her again.
* TheMole: She was a Mole for the Boston PD after being forcibly recruited into The Children of the Night, which is why she's now in witness protection at Whateley.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: This world is specifically noted to have several varieties of actual vampires, in addition to the mutants that emulate the traditional powers by coincidence. She was assumed to be the latter, but Vamp is eventually revealed to be from an actual vampiric bloodline.
* ParentalAbandonment: her folks are Humanity Firsters, and treated her as a freak even before her manifestation due to her hermaphroditism and albinism.
* PetTheDog: she went to a lot of effort to set up a truly epic practical joke on Phase but called it off at the last minute when she realized Ayla was already distraught over something else.
* ScarsAreForever: still carries some horrific burn scars under her hairline from the torture The Necromancer used to keep her in line, and refuses to allow Nikki to heal them because some of the tortures were so unthinkable she's afraid she'll go insane without the scars to prove they actually happened.
* {{Southies}} she's actually from Charlestown but fits the stereotype.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Claims to have done this to the Children of the Night during their battles with Team Kimba.
* VampiricDraining: she can drain her opponents' superpowers but it makes her increasingly manic until she becomes irrational.

[[folder: Sara's Pack]]

!!Carmilla (Sara Waite aka The Kellith)

Your average everyday mostly-demon tentacle-wielding shape-changing Psi who eats by absorbing the lifeforce from living things. Named after Le Fanu's famous lesbian vampire. For a time after first arriving a member of Team Kimba, now has her own team, Sara's Pack.

* AlienBlood: A purplish-black 'ichor'.
* BattleInTheCenterOfTheMind: In "Insanity Prerequisite".
* BizarreAlienBiology: She has no organs. Her body is a solid mass of tendrils, made up of something similar to cancer cells, and each one acts as a neuron.
* CombatTentacles: Not too surprising given that her father is Gothmog, demon of lust, while his mother is Shub-Niggurath - and she's related to Cthulhu on her mother's side. She can launch tentacles out of any part of her body, and those tentacles may then have mouths or eyes or worse if she wants. She has killed several people (and a LOT of animals) by thrusting her tentacles into them and eating their souls. Oh, by the way, she's one of the good guys in this universe.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: After "The Blood Oath", her hair turns blood red like her eyes.
* CuteLittleFangs: part of her image, she doesn't actually need or use them.
* DarkIsNotEvil: the difference between a lust demon and a lust goddess is a matter of intent.
* DreamWalker: Often involuntarily.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: Her original look.
* EldritchAbomination: Growing up into one of these.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: She's a demon (or a goddess, depending upon viewpoint) of lust
* EvilRedhead: Well, she's got the look, anyways. And there are plenty of people who ''do'' think she's evil.
* ExcessiveEvilEyeshadow: She looks like this naturally, without wearing makeup.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange
* {{Goth}}: again, part of her image, since she could look like anything.
* HalfHumanHybrids: Genetically she's all demon, but her [[FishPeople Deep One]] mother was human was human when she gave birth to her.
* HealingFactor: She once was decapitated: her head grew back while the assailant stared in shock.
* HellishPupils
* KryptoniteFactor: Orichalcum burns her.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: She's dark, Fey is light.
* LesbianVampire: Technically not a vampire, or a lesbian for that matter, though she does seem to prefer girls. She's clearly meant to evoke this, though; her codename is an obvious reference to ''that'' Literature/{{Carmilla}}.
* LovecraftianSuperpower: Since she is a HumanoidAbomination: one of her grandparents is Shub-Niggurath, on on her mother's side she's directly related to Cthulhu and the Deep Ones. She's got the CombatTentacles and weird shape-shifting down. In one story, she split her face open to reveal what it looked like inside, and scared a superhero so bad he wet himself.
* {{Metamorphosis}}: She was born human, but that was just her larval form.
* OhCrap: Sara tends to induce Oh Crap moments in others. Like the time she greeted the demon summoned for her sacrifice with "Hi, Daddy."
* OlderThanTheyLook: She was in her mid-twenties before her metamorphosis.
* PhotographicMemory: She's not the only one, but hers is especially notable because she has a perfect memory of every second she's been conscious.
* {{Physical God}}dess: to the Cult of Kellith, most of whom she finds quite annoying
* PsychicPowers: that work on a level humans can only dimly comprehend.
* RedEyesTakeWarning
* ScrewDestiny: She's trying hard to become the first ProHumanTranshuman EldritchAbomination
* SixthRanger: Formerly to Team Kimba
* TheSleepless: She does not need to sleep, though she does take time to meditate now and then.
* TheSnarkKnight -> EthicalSlut / GoodBadGirl: In fact, she's got her own harem, practically.
* SuperIntelligence: After her metamorphosis she posited a new branch of mathematics.
* SuperSpeed: Via time-slowing. At first it appeared to just be [[SuperReflexes enhanced reflexes]] experienced through a BulletTime-like effect, but it turned out she could move at 'normal' speed while everything else was slowed down.
* VampiricDraining: She drains the blood and life force from the creatures she eats, which reduces them to ashes. If anyone objects she points out that it's just like eating meat without the luxury of middlemen to do the killing for you.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: her human appearance is just a convenience for herself and others
* WakingUpAtTheMorgue: After her metamorphosis, immediately followed by puking up the remnants of her internal organs.
* WallCrawl
* WeakenedByTheLight: Until the events of "Insanity Prerequisite".

!!Circuit Breaker (Chad Wilson / Merry Candice Powell / Paige & Petra Donner)

A cyberpath and electricity-wielding Energizer later cloned into two people (Petra and Paige Donner). The latter is a werepanther in Sara's Pack, while the former is a holy knight having her own adventures in Italy.

* ChurchMilitant: She was one person when she first became this. After the split, the job went to Petra.
* ComboPlatterPowers: First she was a technopath and energizer. Then she gained some mystical powers when she was inducted into the Knights of the Church, along with an unremovable ring and a tattoo. Then she was turned into a werecat, but they had to cut off her left forearm (the one with the ring and tattoo) in order to do it. The arm regenerated into a clone of Merry, who kept all her abilities from before.
* ElementalEyeColors: Electric blue.
* HappilyAdopted: by the leaders of the local were tribe.
* HealingFactor
* {{Hermaphrodite}}
* InsideAComputerSystem: Merry is a cyberpath who can interface with computer networks simply by being within a few feet of a powerful CPU hooked to the network. When she does this, she's "in" the computer network. She meets a Whateley Academy kid who can do almost as much as she can, but who prefers the ''Film/{{Tron}}'' visuals for his version of cyberspace.
* LemonyNarrator
* LiteralSplitPersonality: By the time she was sent to ARC as a mental patient, she had four personalities: Chad, the original; Chaddy, a younger version of him; Merry, the girl, and the dominant personality; and Mai (Merry + A.I.), part of a Palm A.I. that got into Circuit Breaker's head and took on parts of the other personalities to repair itself. When a clone was split off from her, Chad and Chaddy were moved into the soulless body.
* MonochromaticEyes: Only as a non-werecat.
* PlayfulHacker
* ShockAndAwe
* SplitPersonality: Merry has 4 personalities: Chaddy, her more innocent child self; Chad, her cynical, distrustful, early adolescent self; Merry, the most normal one and the dominant personality; and Mai, an evil AI she defeated that took up residence in and merged partially with her mind. Eventually these four were separated into pairs when Merry got accidentally cloned; Chad and Chaddy now live in Petra's head, while Merry and Mai now live in Paige's.
* {{Technopath}}: Merry is a cyberpath who can dive into computer networks and do whatever she wants.
* TechnoWizard: Even ''before'' manifesting, to a degree.
* UnreliableNarrator

!!!Tropes specific to Paige
* ArtificialLimbs: Petra got most of Merry's regeneration ability, so Paige has to make due with a prosthetic arm.
* TheBerserker: All young weres have this problem.
* CatGirl
* CuteLittleFangs
* OurWerebeastsAreDifferent: {{Werecat}}.
* UnusualEars

!!!Tropes specific to Petra
* BlessedWithSuck: She's the Knight's Official messenger to Satan. He hurts her. A lot.
* ChurchMilitant: she inherited the Knight of the Church role from Merry.
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: until she pushes it too far and weakens herself enough to require physical therapy

!!Heyoka (Jamie Carson)

A Lakota shaman who is forced to channel some bothersome and occasionally downright unpleasant spirits

* AmbiguousGender: His/her default form.
* BlessedWithSuck: The spirits Jamie channels all tend to mess with his/her body and/or head and Jamie is often left to deal with the fallout from their BlueAndOrangeMorality.
* GenderBlenderName
* {{Hermaphrodite}}: His/her default form.
* InvoluntaryShapeShifting: His/her powers automatically force shapeshifting upon him/her.
* MagicalNativeAmerican: A Lakota 'two-spirit' who can communicate with spirits and astral project, but can't keep from physically shifting into the form of spirits that Heyoka merges with. Deconstructed, as she was sorta dragged into this, doesn't get ALONG with said spirits and astral projections, and wasn't especially into the specifics of her religion. (Her dad was, but he got struck by lightning.) Her powers are also a pain in the ARSE. (Her gender and personality can change pretty drastically thanks to the spirits...)
* PronounTrouble: While she was born female, being an astral avatar makes her shift both form and gender.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes

!!Feral (Erin Wynguard)

* {{Animorphism}}: Has the power to change into any predator mammal
* DemotedToExtra: Made a few appearances before her author vanished, leaving the Canon Cabal uncertain what to do with her. She has only appeared in one liners since.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Can turn into any natural predatory animal
* WildHair

!![[spoiler: Hippolyta]]
See their entry elsewhere on this page for tropes pertaining to them.

[[folder: Outcast Corner]]
Four friends with severe mutations who banded together out of necessity (no one else wanted them) and proved to be a very potent team

* BadassCrew: One of the hardest sim teams to beat. Before Team Kimba started making a name for themselves, they were second only to the Grunts.
* BreakfastClub: It's as though the only reason they haven't demolished the school yet is because they have each other. Everyone on the team is either a rager, a devisor, insane or all of the above, and Diamondback and Jericho, the most sane of the bunch, have some major issues.
* GarageBand: They play in a room under Hawthorne, and people often stop by to listen to them.
* TrueCompanions: They band together almost specifically because they are all ridiculously outcast from rest of the school due to bad fashion sense (on purpose) and severe GSD (they look like monsters).

!!Jericho (Joseph Turner)
A blind gadgeteer who pushes bad fashion sense to GodzillaThreshold levels.

* BlindBlackGuy: and he deliberately plays to the trope
* BlindMusician: He plays bass guitar.
* BrownNote: His wardrobe reaches this level in some stories.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Diamondback.
* ClassClown: plays this role hard to keep up the morale of his fellow Twainies.
* CombatMedic: saving lives is his highest priority
* DisabilitySuperpower: One of his powers allows him to 'see', although he can't detect light, so glass is opaque to him. He keeps this power a secret from all but his teammates.
* HandicappedBadass: He's just as deadly as the others.
* HiddenDepths: He has serious reasons for most of the goofy things he does, and intentionally plays up his quirks to distract unwanted attention from the other outcasts.
* ImpossiblyTackyClothes: He intentionally dresses in the most hideous combination of clothes that he can find, to the point that it's a ''weapon''. That poor, poor mook.
* MilkyWhiteEyes
* MilitantPacifist: He's pretty badass, but all of his weapons are nonlethal.
* NerdActionHero He's BlackAndNerdy. He's an inventor at Whateley Academy. He's working on power armor designed to help firemen and emergency medical technicians in combat areas. He's constantly combating his inherent chubbiness with fad diets. But he's also on a training team with Eldritch, Diamondback and Razorback. This training team is widely felt to be the scariest team on campus.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: he's nearly as good as Loophole but deliberately plays up the "wacky deviser" stereotype to hide it.
* ObnoxiousSnarker: A notorious smart-ass.
* PoweredArmor: He designed it for medics like himself to wear on battlefields.
* SharpDressedMan: on the rare occasion that he wears the Whateley Uniform, like his date with Tennyo, he does it up right.

!!Razorback (Jack Carlyle)
A mute speedster with the appearance of a dinosaur-like raptor and severe rage issues.

* TheBerserker: He prefers ''not'' to enter rage-mode, though.
* BerserkButton: An arguable example: high-pitched sonics drive him crazy and cause him to enter an UnstoppableRage, whether he wants to or not.
* BigEater
* BullyHunter
* ChivalrousPervert
* EverythingsBetterWithDinosaurs
* GenderBender: One of the few female to male examples.
* HealingFactor: second only to Tennyo in this regard.
* HiddenDepths: He plays guitar, and he's really good at it. The Grove called him 'a murderer with the soul of a bard'.
* LandDownUnder: Where he's from.
* LightningBruiser
* OddFriendship: With Fey.
* SuperSpeed

!!Diamondback (Sandra/Ryan Carter)
An empathic Lamia (snake-woman) with two personalities whose monstrous appearance conceals a brilliant mind.

* {{Badass}}: Don't let the low Wiz-rating fool you- she pulled off a plan that fooled ''Hekate''. She also threw a guy ''through'' the side of a truck. A metal side.
* BerserkButton: Sharisha insulting Chaka and Fey and carelessly outing them in the process was enough to make her cross the room and slap her before either of the other two could pull themselves together enough to react.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Jericho.
* TheEmpath: which forces her to experience all of the fear her appearance instills in people.
* {{Fetish}}: She ''is'' one, much to her displeasure, as she's been approached by guys who were only interested in her for being a snake-woman.
* GeniusBruiser: She may just be the smartest kid on campus
* ShrinkingViolet: When it comes to singing in public.
* SnakePeople
* SplitPersonality: Ryan and Sandra both cooperate, and claim that it's more like a "dual processor" than an actual case of this trope. However, they do have notably different mannerisms.
* TeenGenius: Has been alluded to as having one of the highest IQ's in the freshman class, if not the whole school.

!!Eldritch (Caitlin Bardue)
A meld of a human and an ancient super mage-smith with severe anger issues

* AchillesHeel: Any mage could turn her into a helpless slave by tattooing the requisite runes onto her skin.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal
* GoodIsNotNice
* TheInsomniac / TheSleepless: She only needs to sleep a few hours a night.
* LeParkour: she's the leader of the "Parkour Hooligans" club.
* MilitaryBrat: Her cover story.
* OlderThanTheyLook
* PokeInTheThirdEye: She's set up a ''lot'' of mental defenses against invading telepaths -- her brain is essentially a psychic minefield.
* TranquilFury: When she ''does'' snap, she gets really focused, reverting back to her training.
* UltimateBlacksmith: She's The Artificer, a [[{{Golem}} construct]] magically designed to be The UltimateBlacksmith. Things that a high-end mage would need months to make, she can make overnight with the right stuff.
* UnstoppableRage: Certain situations can trigger this, sending her into a TranquilFury.

[[folder: The Bad Seeds]]

->"Okay. We’re the kids of some of the biggest villains in the world. Wealth and power undreamt of by mortal man. And so far our ambitions include solving roommate problems, patent development, the possible destruction of the world, and covering the campus in concrete to turn it into a giant skate park."
-->--'''Jadis, "The Bad Seeds"'''

!!She-Beast (Jadis Diabolik)
Eldest child and only daughter of the most notorious supervillain on the planet. Loves her Dad and appreciates his goals but is ambivalent about his methods. De facto leader of the Bad Seeds and fixer[[note]]someone who helps resolve disputes[[/note]] of Melville cottage. Striking, but not conventionally pretty and well aware of it.

* AbusiveParents: Dr. Diabolik isn't a bad father, but she and her brother were once stuck in an absolutely awful foster home. Their father was not amused.
* ACupAngst: Her lack of curves disgruntles her.
* BadassBookworm: Like Phase, she reads a lot.
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: Zig-zagged. She knows the exact number of casualties her father has caused (17,246) and when and where they occurred, but she's become so used to relatives of these victims giving her shit for deaths that she had nothing to do with that her response to a relative threatening to send her to prison was simply 'Take a number and get in line, bitch'.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Phase.
* CulturedBadass: She's very rich and her father did not skimp on her education.
* DarkIsNotEvil: She knows she lives in the shadows and must sometimes resort to criminal methods but she always tries to follow the spirit if not the letter of the law and a "live and let live" philosophy.
* DeadpanSnarker
* GenreSavvy: One could say it's her true superpower.
* HiddenDepths: she secretly hates having a demon bonded to her soul, and her PK field takes on a much more angelic appearance when Seraphim accidentally knocks it unconscious.
* HollywoodHomely: In-universe. She's described as having a long, angular face and a prominent nose. Not bad-looking, but not conventionally attractive either. The thing is that Whateley, having many gorgeous Exemplars among its population, has a higher baseline standard for attractiveness.
* HornedHairdo: a family trait
* InTheBlood: She's constantly harassed by people who believe that she's a supervillain because her father or blame her for the death of a loved one.
* MadScientistsBeautifulDaughter: [[HollywoodHomely Aversion]], and she's GenreSavvy enough to be aware of it.
* MysticalWhiteHair
* NotSoDifferent: with Phase, she also leads Glorianna of the Cape Squad to a similar conclusion.
* OnlySaneMan: Frequently.
* PsychicBlockDefense: Her father bound a devil to her soul, which influenced her PK shield. It's also proven to be an effective defense against psychics- one tried to read her and freaked out. This has a negative effect however, in that any mystic capable of casting DetectEvil will read the devil and conclude she's worse than Hitler.
* RulesLawyer: As the daughter of Dr. Diabolik, she knows damn well that the law will get her on anything wrong she does, so she learns all the laws so she knows her rights in any circumstance. It's helped her out more than a few times.
** Jadis ultimately defeated Gryphon, the successor to a deceased iron-man like super hero, by simply notifying his heirs that her power armor was rightfully part of his estate.
* SitcomArchNemesis: Was actually assigned "identify your arch-nemesis" as a research paper topic in a none-too-subtle dig at her family. While Jadis was inspired to identify the one person who ''could'' be her arch-nemesis (Loophole, the only superior rules lawyer) she wasn't about to make that public because it would only make trouble for them both. So she decided to write a bunch of deliberately over-the-top SitcomArchNemesis hooey about Aquerna instead. She had a lot of fun writing it but ultimately decided not to turn it in because she didn't want to cause any trouble for Anna either.
* TheSmartGuy
* SupernaturalGoldEyes
* TeamDad: to the Bad Seeds
* WhiteSheep: Her father's a super-villain, her brother's an aspiring super-villain, but Jadis doesn't plan to go either hero or villain. She wants to be a financial consultant. She'd really love to be a lawyer but realizes that the daughter of a supervillain would never be allowed to practice law.

!!Jobe Wilkins
Only son ([[spoiler: later daughter]]) of Gizmatic, a gadgeteer genius devisor and a genius devisor in the biological sciences in his own right. Growing up as the crown prince of a diminutive island kingdom run by a cyborg supervillain has given Jobe a rather...singular... outlook on life

* AffablyEvil: Sometimes. He may be one of the least likeable people on campus, but he does try, in his own condescending way, to be polite and reasonable. Since he's lacking in empathy, his good intentions are seldom well-received.
-->'''Ayla:''' You think that he’d try to cheat me and screw me over?
-->'''Jadis:''' No, I think that he would screw you over in complete honesty and sincerity.
* AManOfWealthAndTaste: is absolutely horrified by the very thought of wearing off the rack clothing.
* BadassBookworm: More so after his transformation, which boosted his physical attributes.
* BalefulPolymorph: He's suffering from this himself due to the lab accident mentioned below, but aside from that, he's notorious for having done this to other students.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: His moral compass is almost as inhuman as Ecila's. Yes, his upbringing has been sufficiently twisted that he is comparable to the immortal girl who chums around with [[EldritchAbomination Eldritch Abominations]]. This also has the effect of leaving him totally in the dark as to what other people really think of his actions.
* CodeName: More or less the only aversion: His official code name is simply "Jobe Wilkins" (he doesn't need one, nobody would dare go after his family).
* ProfessorGuineaPig: does not hesitate to use himself as a test subject
* FauxAffablyEvil: On a couple of occasions, when he's lectured people who were being affected by BodyHorror he caused himself.
* GeekPhysique: Despite having received martial arts training from a young age, his original body was not in the best of shape.
* HeroicComedicSociopath: When he's not coming across as a LiteralGenie
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: He created a drow serum to make the perfect girlfriend for himself. And then he accidentally injected himself with it. [[GoneHorriblyRight It worked perfectly.]]
* HornyScientist: He is working on a project to create his very own Drow wife. Recent stories reveal that he has succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. However, in a cruel or poetic twist of fate, depending on your opinion of him, [[spoiler: he has ''become'' his Drow wife. And, ''she'' is the semi-official mother of her own clone.]]
* InsufferableGenius: In a school full of genius devisers and gadgeteers, plus the people smart enough to teach said inventors, he treats everyone else like they're a moron compared to him. He could be right.
* {{Jerkass}}
* LiteralGenie: Saved from being a JerkassGenie only because he doesn't deliberately screw with people, he just gives them exactly what he thinks they need as seen his very singular point of view
* MadDoctor: has the skills, if not the actual degree
* MasterPoisoner: Jobe creates toxins in his lab to carry around just in case somebody attacks him, and injects himself with the corresponding antitoxin to prevent self-poisoning. He creates a new toxin ''daily'' so people cannot become immune/create their own antitoxin.
* MinoredInAsskicking: The NYPD once left Jobe in a holding cell with a bunch of notorious street thugs and when they came back the thugs were cowering in the corners.
* ModestRoyalty: For some reason Prince Jobe is not insistent upon his royal titles, despite his massive ego.
* MoreDeadlyThanTheMale: firmly believed this even before his transformation.
* PetTheDog: He defended his old roommate, Oak, a few times. He also helped catch the person who used a potentially deadly bioweapon against the Grunts in an attempt to affect the betting line in Vegas.
** Ayla also noted that he created an effective vaccine for dysentery that was estimated to save nearly a million lives a year and donated it to the Gates Foundation for free.
* PoisonedWeapons: and he invents a new poison every day
* RoyalBrat: emphasis on "brat" more than "royal".
* SecondLawOfGenderBending: Steadily gaining ground on him due to the programing he included in his "drow girlfriend" serum, to the point where he's now considering a "drow boyfriend" serum.
* TeenGenius: Jobe's genius for bio-devising sticks out even at Whateley. He's already been considered for a Nobel Prize. He's also been placed under UN Sanctions.
* TheUnfettered: Plagues, vaccines, it's all the same to him. His approach to famine in Africa was a new breed of cancerous cows. That dysentery vaccine? Created through experimentation on humans. Smart people consider him the most dangerous student on campus; really smart people wonder if he's the most dangerous person in the world. Jobe's attitude towards other people growing up was informed by the fact that his father ''frequently disassembles his mother'' and Jobe figures it must be true love because he keeps putting her back together again.
* UnreliableNarrator: Due to his ego, his viewpoint can be highly slanted at times. One memorable scene in "The Second Book of Jobe" had him convinced that Jadis was madly in love with him, and interpreting everything she did or said accordingly.
* WellDoneSonGuy: It grieves him that his father does not give the biological sciences sufficient credit.

!!Techno-Devil (Malachi "Mal" Diabolik)
Jadis' younger brother who can't wait to join the family business.

* AffablyEvil: He ''is'' planning to join the villain business...
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Jadis dedicates considerable effort to keeping him out of trouble.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Phase.
* {{Electronic Eye|s}}: It was a gift from Dad
* GadgeteerGenius: a chip off the old block
* HornedHairdo: ditto
* MadScientist
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Malachai or Malachi? It varies from story to story.

!!Nephandus (Jean-Armand "Jay-Arm" St. Michel-du Chantraine)

Pretty boy son of the Troll Bride and the Hexmaster. A devisor and mage specializing in binding demons to his inventions.

* BlondGuysAreEvil
* CulturedBadass: He likes to think that he's one of these.
* DealWithTheDevil: He's stated to be very good at making contracts for these.
* ErmineCapeEffect: He's constantly wearing what Ayla refers to as a "Merchant-Ivory wardrobe."
* HalfHumanHybrids: His mother is a Trow
* HiddenDepths: He's a big joke to most of the campus, but he's a decent deviser and has done a few things that didn't go horribly wrong.
* OverlyLongName
* PostmodernMagik: He's been trying to combine magic and technology, with varying success.
* PrettyBoy
* RightHandAttackDog: His cyber-golem.
* RoyalBrat: His mother is a countess, though her claim to the title is rather spotty at best, considering she ate the count on their honeymoon.

!!Thrasher (Nathan Thurston)

The skater dude son of a former low-level supervillain, Nathan's a bad seed, but not a bad kid. He takes the unintentionally destructive aspects of skateboarding up to mutant-powered levels but he's more interested in extreme sports than outright villainy.

* {{Badass}}: When he was a kid, his father was hunted down and nearly killed by the Dragonslayers. Eight-year-old Nathan stood up to them, powerless and defenceless, and saved his father's life in the process (though he was incredibly lucky, having faced down the one Dragonslayer who didn't want to kill a man in front of his son).
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He fought ''fiercely'' when his Hooligan friends were attacked by the Lamplighter during a run.
* CoolBoard: Creates one with his powers.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: The "giant skate park" idea mentioned above? That was his.
* LeParkour: A key member of the Parkour Hooligans.
* SurferDude: The skateboarding equivalent.

!!Nacht (Katrina "Kate" Margya Joszinya Tvardowski)
Jadis' best friend, an Erebeal mage with an expressionless demeanor

* AbusiveParents: Her mother treats her like a tool, purposely withholds the identity of Kate's father as a way to manipulate her daughter, raised her in what her present guardian described as a prison, surrounded by people who'd humiliate and scorn her for showing weakness, and made her the focus of a cult when she was six.
** It gets worse: the last chapter of ''Silent Nacht'' reveals that [[spoiler: Nacht has Erebeal Magic because as a baby, her mother dipped her into the Erebos… and wasn't actually expecting her to survive. And in addition, she's not even Nacht's biological mother- the Bell Witch kidnapped baby Nacht, dipped her into the Erebos, and adopted her when she lived.]]
* ArchEnemy: She's one to the Witch Hunter who pursues her throughout ''Silent Nacht''. It's implied that he's the same one who broke up the cult focused on her when she was a kid, though she [[UnknownRival doesn't seem to know who he is.]]
** She enjoys tormenting Belphegor for fun.
* [[spoiler: AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: She temporarily becomes a demigoddess in ''Silent Nacht''.]]
* BerserkButton: Hurting Jadis. Kate flipped her shit when Seraphim knocked her out in "There's an Angel in Dickinson Cottage".
* CastingAShadow: Practices Erebeal Magic, which allows her to control darkness, including teleporting with it, using it as a shield and making clones of herself to attack enemies.
* CreepyMonotone: A number of other students are utterly terrified of her.
* CulturedBadass: She knows a lot of Edgar Allen Poe's works by heart.
* CutLexLuthorACheck: She's one of the few characters who uses reason and actually tries to talk potential opponents out of fighting, and it actually works sometimes.
* ADayInTheLimelight: Her story, ''Silent Nacht''.
* DeadpanSnarker: though she's pretty much a deadpan always
* DeathGlare: she can make grown men beg for mercy just by looking at them.
* DifferentAsNightAndDay: Kate's guardians. The Bell Witch is a complete bitch who really doesn't care about her daughter, while Sunburst is her complete opposite, not only being happy and friendly, but also going out of her way to do things that Kate likes.
* DisappearedDad: Kate has no idea who he is, and her mother (i.e. the one person who could tell her) is refusing to. [[spoiler: Because her mother isn't her mother, and probably has no idea who he was.]]
* TheDogBitesBack: [[spoiler: Successfully gets away from her mother by making her own plans and turning the tables on her.]]
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette
* {{Expy}}: Of [[Film/TheAddamsFamily Wednesday Addams]] (the movie version played by Christina Ricci).
* [[spoiler: HappilyAdopted: As much as she complains, she genuinely likes Sunburst and enjoys being her ward.]]
* HiddenDepths: She likes poetry (especially Poe), classic literature and extreme sports, and is suspected of actually smiling at Thorn's antics in secret.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: The few times Kate drops the ice queen schtick shows that she actually does care about other people, and has a particular sympathy for those who have been used emotionally. (It's implied that either she was the victim of a bad relationship, or she was referring to her mother.)
* KryptoniteFactor: Sacred Moly, a rare herb that effects anyone attuned to the Erebos. It knocks her powers out of control, and leaves her unable to take control back or get away from the chaos.
* NoMeansYes: She says she hates everything and refuses to admit to liking anything, so it's best to take any personal opinion she gives with a grain of salt.
* OppositesAttract: Is being actively courted by Thorn, an absolutely ridiculous flamboyant ectoplasm manipulator. The one thing they have in common is a love of classic literature. He says all she has to do is tell him to go, and he'll go, and never come back; she hasn't told him to go.
* OverlyLongName: Though she's happy to go by Kate or Nacht.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Compared to the talents of Jadis, Jobe and some of the other more prominent Bad Seeds, Kate isn't a heavy hitter- but she's pretty damn ingenious and can hold off multiple attackers with magical weapons, and she has a very wide wealth of knowledge.
* PetTheDog: She talked Dr. Venus' henchmen out of fighting, told them the truth that Venus had been concealing for them and got them all into protective custody.
* TheReveal: [[spoiler: The Bell Witch isn't her mother at all, she stole baby Kate from her real mother. It's possible that the reason why the Bell Witch kept refusing to tell Nacht the identity of her father is because she ''never knew.'']]
* TheSnarkKnight: She has reasons why she acts this way, though.
* TheStoic: She hides her emotions from everyone except Jadis and occasionally Sunburst.

!!Rosethorn (Romeo [=LaClavar=])

* BewareTheNiceOnes
* EvenTheGuysWantHim
* FiveStagesOfGrief: The other Bad Seeds have their own set of these for him getting over a breakup. They're more or less the same ones, but in a slightly different order.
* {{Glamour}}
* MeaningfulName
* PrettyBoy: He claims that one of the reasons his girlfriends always break up with him is because "They don't like not being the pretty one in the relationship."
** LongHairedPrettyBoy
* PsychicPowers
* SelfDeprecation: Has a healthy sense of humor about his name, unless he's in the UnstoppableRage phase of a breakup. He even jokes that the balcony scenes are the worst part.
* SerialRomeo: More or less his defining characteristic.
** Much to his own dismay. He'd rather find his One True Love.
* UnstoppableRage: What happens when he reaches the "Anger" stage. He once wiped the floor with the whole Cadet Crusaders super team.

!!Winter (Marian Kilgareth-Donnehammer)

* TheBeautifulElite: She's not one of the most stunning in the school, but she is the most beautiful member of the Bad Seeds excepting Romeo, and has pumped up her ego to go with this reputation.
* ElementalPowers
** BlowYouAway
** AnIcePerson
* SmallNameBigEgo: See TheBeautifulElite, above. She thinks she's a lot more beautiful than she really is, to the point that when people outside the group try talking to or hitting on her friends, she automatically assumes that they mean her even if they didn't even look at her.
* TheTeamWannabe: She wants to join the Capes, mostly just so she can say she did (and to annoy her parents).

!!Cheese (Victor Alexander Maria Stieglitz-Von Maas)

* AdultChild: He acts like an overexcited kid, but he has the vocabulary and knowledge of a skilled adult.
* BewareTheSillyOnes
* CheshireCatGrin
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass
* EinsteinHair: He's described with hair like this already, even though he is a teenaged supervillain.
* GigglingVillain: So much so that everyone in the Bad Seeds' intro story instantly compares him to the Joker.
* MultipleChoicePast: When asked about the origins of his codename, he never tells the same story twice.
* OverlyLongName

!!Dragonrider (Lindsay Fellows)

* TheBeastmaster: Dragons, mainly.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She gets angry a lot, and when she does, Pern, her pet dragon, gets very, very big and very, very pissed off.
* PowerCrystal: She's got a small collection of power gems, garnered by getting Jay-Arm to fall for some sucker bet or another, time after time.
* TheIngenue
* TokenGoodTeammate: While the Bad Seeds are not (for the most part) actually bad people, she's the only one that would never be mistaken as the villainous sort. This is partially due to her sweet nature, and partially to a protective charm her father placed on her that keeps people from making the mental connection between "girl who hangs out with the Bad Seeds" and "daughter of a super villain".
* WhiteSheep: She doesn't plan to be a super villain, but she loves her father nevertheless.

!!Render (Raymond Banks)

* ExtraOreDinary: His TK powers allow him to cut straight through things like glass, and he can liquify it (hence his codename).
* PragmaticVillainy: When Jobe threatens him (with a credit card, no less) Render replies that he better be able to back it up with paid vacations, profit sharing and a decent dental plan.
* ScaryBlackMan
* StockSuperpowers: He's a TK superman.

!!Silver Serpent (Laurel Hua / Hua Chu Lan)

* ExtraOreDinary: She's a high-end avatar with a spirit of metal, giving her some control over the element. WordOfGod is she can pass through it as if it were water, like the [[{{Terminator}} T-1000]]. She can also destroy power armor and manifested metal with a touch.
* FriendlyEnemy: She views Chou as this- Chou has no plans to hurt her in any way, but Laurel knows who Chou is, what Chou can do and is as a result absolutely terrified of her.
* LadyOfWar
* MadScientistsBeautifulDaughter: Substituting 'would-be global conqueror' for 'mad scientist'.
* WhiteSheep: She isn't against her father, but she thinks that many of his plans are stupid and will only end in disaster. She just can't do anything about it.

!!Belphoebe "Belphie" Blackadar-Wilkins

* BadassBookworm: Demonstrated in "Saks and Violence"
* CodeName: To date, the second aversion, together with her "mother" Jobe. On the other hand, this is probably because she's still working out who she is...
* GadgeteerGenius
* ReallyWasBornYesterday: She's a cloned drow, so while she appears 16 and is treated as such by the administration, staff and students; chronologically she's 0.

[[folder: The Lit Chix]]

* {{Author Avatar}}s: Unusually perhaps, most if not all of them are fairly well-rounded, fun-to-read characters. They come a lot further down on the scale of Sue-ish-ness than the main characters, for the most part.
* {{Amateur Sleuth}}s / {{Kid Detective}}s
* GamingClan
* {{Glasses Girl}}s: Most of them.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: The group's official name is the Literary Club.[[note]]The Whateley Academy Literary Club, to be precise.[[/note]] Nobody actually calls them that.
* {{Parody Sue}}s
* XtremeKoolLetterz: Chix = Chicks, in case you didn't get it.

!!Elaine "Doc" Nalley (Loophole)

* AscendedExtra: Sort of. She gradually grew in importance, until she eventually got her own one-shot, and then a very lengthy solo story that's actually fairly important to the main plot (As opposed to the early Lit Chix stories, which could be skipped without the reader missing anything of importance).
** She's gone from part of the Lit Chix, to the 'head' of the Alpha plots.
* AwesomeByAnalysis / InstantExpert: It's part of her gadgeteer power.
* BadassBookworm
* BewareTheNiceOnes: [[spoiler: After Kodiak's spirit made her believe that Songbird raped her, Elaine got 'revenge' on Songbird by chloroforming her, tying her up, repeatedly Tasering her and fucking with her head so that Songbird believed that Loophole stole her soul and could destroy it with a button.]]
* BiTheWay
* [[spoiler: DemonicPossession: Kodiak's bear spirit got into her head, altered her memories and used her like a puppet.]]
* FieryRedhead
* GadgeteerGenius: One of the most terrifying. She has a 100% success rate. Now imagine what she might build...
** See BewareTheNiceOnes above. While Loophole maintains that [[spoiler: stealing someone's soul]] isn't actually possible, if she actually tried, she probably could do it.
* TheGunslinger
* [[spoiler: MindRape: Kodiak's spirit altered her memories of her relationship with Songbird so she believed that Songbird raped her.]]
* MisBlamed: In-universe, she built a gun for Freya that was later used by another student to kill himself. While Loophole had nothing to do with his suicide besides having built the gun, this hasn't stopped the student's roommate from blaming her and being determined to prove that she did it.
* MoralityPet: to Kodiak.
* NerdsAreSexy
* PoweredArmor: She has designed and built a suit of 'Iron Man' style power armor with flight, weaponry, and spacesuit capabilities. She's about 15. Dynamaxx has a similar power armor suit, but he may have bought some of the components.
* [[spoiler: RapeAsBackstory: Ultimately subverted. Loophole was in a consensual relationship with Songbird, but after breaking up, she asked Songbird to remove her memories of their relationship, which Songbird did. Kodiak's bear spirit then altered the memories so Loophole believed that Songbird had raped her.]]
* RulesLawyer: Hence the codename.
* SouthernFriedGenius: A southern belle with an accent as thick as creamed corn, who also happens to be an inventor and gadgeteer who built her own ersatz, space-worthy Iron Man suit, who got her code name by knowing the rulebook (which rulebook, you ask? ALL OF THEM) inside and out and exploiting them ruthlessly.
* TechnologicalPacifist: After Snapshot committed suicide with a gun she built, she refused to make any form of weapon, barring a gun she built for Ayla. She loses sleep over worrying that an invention she created might be used by the military.
* [[spoiler: UnreliableNarrator: Kodiak's spirit fucked with her memories, so up until ''Whilst Any Speaks'' part four, everything both Loophole and Kodiak say about Songbird is incorrect, but neither knew it.]]
* WrenchWench: in the traditional sense as well as the gadgeteer sense; her deceptively decrepit looking supercharged Mustang is justly feared by all of the street racers in the Berlin area.

!!Joanne "Jo" Gunnarson (Murphy)

* AnimateDead: She does this unintentionally.
* ComboPlatterPowers: Regeneration, animating the dead, teleporting, and reality warping.
* DeadpanSnarker
* GenkiGirl: She can get quite erratic when her Ritalin wears off.
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: teleporting while reality warping would be a lethal combination without her powerful healing factor.
* GrayEyes: Characterizing a strong will and a cold temper.
* HealingFactor
* MulticoloredHair: Blonde with purple bangs. It's actually dyed.
* ParodySue: To a much greater degree than any of the other Chix.
* RealityWarper: Mostly probability and teleportation.
* SixthRanger
* TeleportSpam
* {{Tomboy}}
* WindsOfDestinyChange: Except that instead of good luck, she gets bad luck, hence the codename.

!!Rebecca "Becky/Bekky" Corbin (Foxfire)

* BerserkButton: Threatening Boots, her familiar. She spends her Combat Final going through a long fight designed to let her humiliate and crush her opponent for sexually harassing her friend and threatening Boots' life.
* ConspiracyTheorist: Is convinced that Team Kimba has a long thought-out plan for taking over campus.
** Believes in the Poe Hall conspiracy though she's unaware of the specifics.
* {{Familiar}}: A young silver fox named Boots (short for Slyboots).
* TheLeader: Or at least the one most likely to drag the others into shenanigans.
-->'''Loophole:''' Why did Bek get put in charge?
-->'''Arachne:''' Mrs. Savage knows who’s always behind all the naughty stuff we ever do, so she just figured she’d assign blame preemptively.
** She's shown up at least twice in non-Lit Chix stories as a spectator, with someone wondering what she's even doing there and another person saying something along the lines of "Hey, try stopping her."
* [[MrExposition Ms. Exposition]]: In "The Clue of the Unseen Switch". This is apparently a thing of hers; in "The Big Idea", she commented on Reach's speech with: "Wow, and I thought that ''I'' loved exposition!"
* SkunkStripe
* SpellMyNameWithAnS

!!Babs Yorunkle (Compiler)

* DoesNotKnowHerOwnStrength: She used her mutant gift for nanotechnology to give herself the superhuman strength and speed her mutation itself failed to provide, but she hasn't quite learned to keep from activating purely by accident yet.
* GoneHorriblyRight: She used nanomachines to make herself an Exemplar, but she ended up four times as dense as she should be. Combine this with super speed and super strength, and... yeah. Not good.
* HeroicBuild: She was aiming for this; instead, she now looks like a [[ImpossibleHourglassFigure life-size Barbie doll]] except with dark hair and oversized {{Animesque}} eyes.
* {{Nanomachines}}
* ProfessorGuineaPig: She tested some of her inventions on herself.
* PunnyName: Like her author, her name is a play on the phrase "Bob's your uncle".
* TooFastToStop: Sometimes has uncontrolled bursts of speed. Combine this with her weighing four times more than she should, and you get a recipe for disaster. It's why she's in Hawthorne.

!!Dee Castle (Fractious)

* FreakOut: She had one in her combat final after falling into a mud puddle. It ended with reality fracturing like a bitch.
* JewishAndNerdy
* NeatFreak / SuperOCD: Her OCD has made her life impossible, and she can't do anything about it unless her medications work.
* RealityWarper: And a powerful one.

!!Stella Wolfe (Lupine)
* AuraVision: Sort of, in that she can see other spirits, including those hosted by Avatars.
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: Technically, she isn't a werewolf at all, nor a mutant for that matter, but an incarnated wolf ''spirit'' hosted in a human body. So far as is known, she hasn't had any contact with any of the actual werewolves - yet - though presumably she's met Paige by now and thus knows something about werefolk (is she hadn't already).

[[folder: The Alphas]]

!!Don Sebastiano (Sebastiano Lorenz Valensuera y Ramirez)

* AnythingThatMoves
* BigBad: Within the school. [[spoiler: More like DiscOneFinalBoss.]]
* BrilliantButLazy: He's quite capable when he puts his mind to it, but usually prefers to let other people handle the work.
* CharmPerson: He's used this to slowly worm his way into someone's psyche.
* DepravedBisexual: Not openly, but he [[spoiler: raped both Cavalier and Skybolt while they were mind controlled.]]
* TheDragon: To Freya, who outclassed him by a mile.
* HandsomeLech
* LatinLover: Tall, dark, and extremely handsome, he loves the ladies. He has a long string of girls he has wooed, screwed, and abandoned (in the most humiliating way he can arrange). Campus girls still fall for him, even though everyone knows he's the biggest bastard in the school.
* ManipulativeBastard: Aided by his telepathic abilities
* {{Sadist}}: Primarily the psychological sort, [[spoiler: but there's some evidence that he physically tortured Cavalier and Skybolt as well]].
* SmugSnake
* {{Telepathy}}: Though he doesn't follow the rules

!!Hekate (Kallysta Thessellarean)

* BlackMagic: Practices the darkest of black arts.
* DealWithTheDevil
* TheDragon
* {{Evil Sorcere|r}}ss
* ManBehindTheMan: She actually does a lot of the Don's work. In fact, [[spoiler: The Don isn't the one who put Cavalier and Skybolt under mind control. She did that, using a thrall spell.]]
* [[spoiler: SealedEvilInACan]]: [[spoiler: After her defeat, she cannot be without wards, at all, or a 'broke an oath to Fey' curse will get her. All the evils she has done shall compound upon her threefold. She's done a lot of evil.]]
* WouldHurtAChild: Used children for blood sacrifices, and it's implied that may not even be the worst of her crimes.

!!Solange (Tansy Walcutt)
Formerly ugly scion of a wealthy old New England family who hit the jackpot when she manifested, Tansy was the prettiest girl in school until Fey arrived and proof that a pretty face can cover an ugly personality.

* AbusiveParents: Apparently dad was part of the wife-a-month club
* AlphaBitch: She tormented Ayla ([[GenderBender then known as Trevor]]) at their old school, and carries on at Whateley after they both mutate
** Later subverted when it turns out that the real mastermind behind her GirlPosse was Flicker.
* ArmoredClosetGay: who takes violent exception to anyone who forces her to confront her unwanted feelings.
* BackStabbingTheAlphaBitch: one of her own GirlPosse backstabs her as soon as she becomes a liability
* BookDumb: she's cunning but not particularly smart and thinks education is just a waste of time for a girl with her wealth.
* EvilCounterpart: In some ways, she's what Ayla could have been, had he not had a family who initially loved him.
* FreudianExcuse: She was heavily bullied as a child and had a bad family life. Now that she's older, powerful, and beautiful it's payback time.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: All of her schemes eventually backfire, and the eventual comeuppance is in direct proportion to the initial success.
* HumiliationConga: Started out competing with Hekate for control of the Alphas, ended up on permanent detention babysitting the three little witches.
** Her attempt to use her avatar powers to kidnap Jinn Sinclair failed after Jinn figured out how to possess her body while she was sleeping and subjected her to a truly epic terror and humiliation campaign that including giving away all of her clothes, shaving off all of her hair and waking her up in mid-fall from 5000 feet.
* KarmaHoudini: gets nothing more than permanent detention after her savage and near fatal assault on Greasy.
* MeaningfulName: tansy is a toxic herb that can cause miscarriages and spontaneous abortions
* ManipulativeBitch: She ''was'', especially in the year before the Kimbas arrived, but she's slipped a ''lot''. It's later revealed that her previous "successes" were actually due to the manipulations of Flicker, one of her "loyal" GirlPosse.
* PetTheDog: recently expressed actual concern for someone other than herself. Headmistress Carson was pleased.
* PoorLittleRichKid: This seems to be a major factor in her bitterness.
* RichBitch one of the richest, in fact.

!!Kodiak (Wyatt Cody)

* AbusiveParents: His father drinks heavily and spends his time trying to relive the past through his son's experiences, and his mother's become distant after she saw him take on a mob of Humanity First! attackers single-handedly and won.
* AffablyEvil: During the Don's reign.
* TheAtoner: Mainly for everything he did and was powerless to stop under Freya's reign.
* BerserkButton: Don't hurt Loophole. [[spoiler: Even if you are his Avatar spirit.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: [[spoiler: He killed his Avatar spirit and subsumed it after he found out exactly what it had been doing to Loophole.]]
* TheBigGuy: He had a friendly fight with Champion, and while he lost, he dealt out and took enough of a beating that nobody wanted to fuck with him. And he was only a freshman!
* TheBrute: His role as Freya's enforcer- anyone who Songbird couldn't control then had to go up against him, and with his reputation, everyone backed down.
* TheCasanova: In his earlier years at the school.
* TheDragon: He and Songbird were Freya's enforcers.
* [[spoiler: MyGodWhatHaveIDone: After learning that his spirit fucked with Loophole's head, he's horrified.]]
* NiceGuy: He's really not a bad guy, but his reputation comes before him.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: He fought off a mob trying to attack a GSD woman and her baby. His relationship with his mother got ''very'' damaged after she saw him fight off over twenty people and barely get hurt.
* OneSteveLimit: Averted, having taken the name of his spirit.
* SuperpowerLottery: He ended up with a spirit that gives him a huge amount of strength, a body that's incredibly hard to hurt, invulnerability to cold and (most) psychic attacks, and it can even heal people under the right circumstances.
* UnstoppableRage: He once nearly killed someone who provoked him far enough- the only thing that stopped the guy dying was regeneration (and the guy's brain regenerated completely- he wound up with an infant's personality, so whether he actually died or not is subjective.)

!!! The Kodiak

* [[spoiler: AboveGoodAndEvil: It claims that the concepts of good and evil are for 'the powerless', and thus don't apply to it or to Wyatt. [[{{Understatement}} He disagrees.]]]]
* [[spoiler: BitchInSheepsClothing: It grew up with Wyatt as his 'imaginary friend', until he learned about Avatars and spirits. Unfortunately for Wyatt, it was running on an entirely different moral compass the whole time (see BlueAndOrangeMorality, below).]]
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: [[spoiler: As nice and cordial as the Kodiak seemed, in the end, all it cared about was that Wyatt will apparently one day fight a great enemy, so everything it did came down to helping and preparing Wyatt for his eventual task. It helped remove the memory blanks in Loophole's mind, sure... and in the process, it altered the memories with the aim of eventually getting Loophole to date Wyatt because he liked her. It agreed to help heal Cavalier and Skybolt... because it wanted to do something similar to them because they would have been helpful to Wyatt.]]
* [[spoiler: CharacterDeath: Wyatt kills it and subsumes it in the final part of ''Whilst Any Speaks''.]]
* [[spoiler: MindRape: Knowing that Wyatt had a thing for Loophole, it altered Loophole's memories so she believed that Songbird, her ex-girlfriend, had repeatedly raped her, aiming to eventually drive Elaine into Wyatt's arms. It worked. It also said that it was planning to do something similar to Skybolt and Cavalier, because they would have been useful to Wyatt.]]
* OverlyLongName: “The Kodiak, spirit of the Untamed Earth, Duke of the Court of the Center, Master Healer and Court Physician to her Majesty, Gaia, High Queen of the Natural Realm".
* VaguenessIsComing: It warned Wyatt that an 'enemy of life' is coming, and also gave him a vision of a nuclear bomb exploding over his home town. It hasn't been any more specific, sadly.
* WalkingSpoiler: As of ''Whilst Any Speaks'', part four.

!!Bluejay (Jay Blue Lake)

* AmbiguouslyBi: has a thing for Jimmy T despite or because of his serial Gender Bending, though it's not clear if he's being genuine or just doing it to annoy Don Sebastiano.
* EnigmaticMinion: is clearly playing hid own game.
* HiddenDepths: He's the Lorekeeper in training for the local Indian tribe
* NightmareFetishist: Also comes on to Carmilla
* {{Teleportation}}: And he is ''fast''.
* {{Trickster}}

!!Hamper and Damper (James and Bradley Kenner)
Twin brothers who act as bullies for the Alphas.

* ConfusionFu: Hamper's powers fog his opponent's thoughts
* CreepyTwins
* FinishingEachOthersSentences
* PowerNullifier: Damper's powers. It doesn't seem to be universally effective, however.
* ThoseTwoBadGuys

!!Aries (Arnold Harvey)
The Don's increasingly reluctant enforcer [[spoiler: who eventually becomes a mole and a reverse mole in the struggle between The Don and Kodiak]].

* BlackmailIsSuchAnUglyWord: Phase tries to blackmail him by buying his parents' mortgage, not realizing that Aries is actually thrilled by the chance to get out from under The Don's thumb.
* BullyHunter: Started as one, and is appalled to realize he's become a bully himself. By then he was in too deep
* {{Retcon}}: He was just another bully until we finally got his backstory.
* MundaneUtility: He uses his powers mostly helping his father run the family dairy farm.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Willing to take a dive if it messes up the Don's plans
* SuperpowerLottery: He's an exemplar, energizer, and speedster

[[folder: The Three Little Witches]]

* BeautyBrainsAndBrawn: Clover, Abra, and Palantir respectively.
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead
* {{Cute Witch}}es: Clover even has a witch's hat. They regularly scheme to collect essence so they can do more impressive magic, usually stirring up trouble along the way. [[DeliberatelyCuteChild They also don't hesitate to play the 'cute and innocent' card when it suits them.]]
* {{Deliberately Cute Child}}ren: Though in Clover's case, it's not always an act.
* PluckyComicRelief
* SpannerInTheWorks: Constantly. They even managed to muck up Deathlist during the Halloween attack without knowing it.

!!Clover (Estelle ?)

* CanineCompanion: Her dog, Buttons, who can {{Sizeshift|ing}} into a CanisMajor.
* CheerfulChild
* {{Familiar}}: Buttons is actually a Gabriel Hound, a type of faerie creature from Celtic and Welsh mythology.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She's the most innocent of the three.
* NiceHat: A ''witch'' hat, as she'll proudly let you know.
* RealityWarper: She's a literal embodiment of chaos
* WindsOfDestinyChange: with little or no control.

!!Palantir (Irene Durcell)

* CrystalBall: Can summon one.
* InsistentTerminology: She's annoyed by people shortening her codename to "Pally".
* LethalHarmlessPowers: Destroyed one of Deathlist's hands by summoning one of her Crystal balls around it.
* MessyHair: Described as 'flyaway'.
* PluckyGirl

!!Abracadabra (Bethany Tarvetti)

* OnlySaneMan
* TheSmartGuy: Especially compared to the other two. She's easily the most rational.
* SpannerInTheWorks: a handful of her spell slips bollixed Deathlist's tactical computer just enough to give Lady Astarte an edge.

[[folder: The Spy Kids]]

Officially known as the "Intelligence Corps Cadets" and derisively called "The Secret Squirrels", the Spy Kids are Whateley's own crew of [[Film/JamesBond 007]] wannabes. They're the arch enemies of the Masterminds and convinced that the Bad Seeds must be up to something, if only they could find the evidence.
* HoistByTheirOwnPetard: The school administration orders them to lay off the Bad Seeds but they just can't help themselves.

!!Reach (Harlan "Harley" Sawyer)
Freshman wannabe who becomes a member after an exemplar upgrade

* AbusiveParents: His father uses him as a whipping boy, his mother is a doormat who lets it happen
* DoggedNiceGuy: and it works out for him in the end.
* ForWantOfANail: It's implied that he could have been an exemplar in his male form as well if it weren't for the crippling inferiority complex his father instilled in him.
* GenderBender: because of an deviser accident, Reach now flips between Harlan and Harley.
* PowerPerversionPotential: The most explicit example after Sara. Harley can change the size and shape of any body part and it is explicitly noted in this context.
* RequiredSecondaryPowers: he lacks them in his male form.
* RubberMan: He has the power set, but doesn't have some of the RequiredSecondaryPowers that would let him make really effective use of it; namely, while he can make his arm 15 feet long, doing so stretches his muscles out so much that he can't ''do'' anything with his extra-long arm. Near the beginning of the story, however, a lab accident grants Reach the "exemplar" power set, which, among other things, includes SuperStrength, so she (oh, yeah, that lab accident also [[GenderBender turned him into a girl]]) is now much more effective.
* SecondLawOfGenderBending: Once he realizes it's an escape from the family loser identity his father's been hammering him into.
* TheUnfavorite: compared to his older brother.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: but they have yet to fully nail down the trigger so it isn't entirely voluntary yet.

!!Ace (Andy [=DeWitt=])
Sees himself as a hero-in-training. Absorbs skills from objects.
* NobleBigot: refuses to see that treating the Bad Seeds like criminals just because their parents are criminals might force them into supervillainy by foreclosing all of their other choices.
* RulesLawyer: he tries to use ExactWords to justify continued surveillance of the Bad Seeds, it doesn't help them much.

!!A-Plus (Anne Pollard)
Excels at everything! Crush on Ace, hates Hazard and Sahar
* TheAce: Even moreso than Ace.
* IfItsYouItsOkay: It was Sahar, and it wasn't OK, Sahar was just using her.

The guy who saves them in the lurch. Shrinks/grows things (mostly inanimate stuff) which allows him to keep a ridiculous array of tools and weaponry in his pockets.
* RealityWarper: in a fairly limited and focused way.

!!Kew (Emily Anne Quentin)
Genius gadgeteer, though her gizmos are more like those in the Film/SpyKids movies than the ones her counterpart provides to Film/JamesBond
* StickyFingers: has an unfortunate tendency to "borrow" cool gadgets she wants to study, and incorporates features of other devisor's inventions gathered through surveillance into her own designs.
* WritingAroundTrademarks: Her codename is an obvious Film/JamesBond reference

!!Interface (Randy Welles)
Lovable troublemaker, interfaces with minds and machines but no one can figure out how he does it.

[[folder: The Masterminds]]

Not an official campus organization, The Masterminds are Whateley's own SPECTRE wannabes: a bunch of would-be supervillains who would be dangerous if they were actually competent. Arch enemies of the Spy Kids.

Irresponsible lazy kid, dreams of being a “gentleman rogue”

Bitter, ruthless, formerly ugly. (hates bullies, sympathy for underdogs)
* PetTheDog: very protective of Jello

Genuine career criminal. Selfish, deceitful, arrogant. (flunky)

Secret crush on spykid Ace, catty rivalry with spykid A-Plus. Secretly wants to turn good.
* CallBack: her "mastermind who turns good" ambitions echo Wallflower's mother, Tabby Cat, who was a Mastermind during her own Whateley years

Shifter, regenerates, super-strong, starts to slump after a few minutes. (flunky)
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: She wants a sense of belonging and acceptance more than anything else.

Leader, genius, type A, wants to be master criminal. Crush on Hazard.
* TimeForPlanB: So severely type A (hence his CodeName) he invariably has plans A through Z with multiple roman numeral designated variations of each. They rarely work out for him.

[[folder: Peeper and Greasy]]

* [[SchoolNewspaperNewshound School Radio Station Newshounds]]: They run W.A.R.S., the Whateley Academy Radio Station. It's not uncommon to find them (or rather, Peeper, with Greasy tagging along) trying to harass pretty girls for "interviews".
* ThoseTwoGuys

The ringleader, a megalomanical, misogynistic geek whose perverted obsessions has had the unfortunate (for him) effect of isolating him from the girls he's so obsessed with, though his real objective appears to be creeping them out.

* AmbiguousDisorder: Shows signs of being clinically deluded (if not outright Diedrick's Syndrome) but nobody has any sympathy for him because he's such a perverted jerk.
* ButtMonkey: not that he doesn't ask for it.
* CasanovaWannabe: Of the impossibly lame kind
* CombatCommentator: for the twice annual combat finals
* {{Jerkass}}: He exploits and abuses poor Greasy unmercifully
* UngratefulBastard: One of the school's resident queen bees decides that Peeper was responsible for something he didn't do. She attacks him. Greasy tries to defend Peeper and fight back. Peeper's response? He runs and doesn't so much as call the authorities to help Greasy.
* XRayVision: And yes, he abuses it. Interestingly enough, he can't turn it OFF, explaining some of his issues. Not all, just some.
** PowerIncontinence: He lies about this to get out of trouble with enraged females (aside from those in authority, who presumably already know), but his X-ray vision is ''always on''.

!!Greasy (Adam Lambert)
Peeper's much put upon sidekick.

* AmusingInjuries: Right up until he tries to defend Peeper from an enraged Solange and it stops being funny very quickly.
* TheChewToy
* ExtremeDoormat: Peeper abuses him physically, mentally, emotionally, and above all, ''constantly''.
* GadgeteerGenius: He's actually one of the best devisors at Whateley, with a real knack for combining technologies developed by others, which he obtains legitimately through trading (unlike Belphegor) Unfortunately he never gets much credit since Peeper abuses his gizmos for his own perverted purposes.
* MadScientist: He makes all the gadgets Peeper uses to harass girls.
* MinionShipping
* OddFriendship: With Loophole, who makes a point of visiting in the hospital after Tansy nearly beats him to death.
* StockholmSyndrome: Peeper appears to be his one true love, despite or perhaps because of all the abuse Greasy suffers from him.

[[folder: C.O.R.E. (Cooperation Organization for Responsible Evil)]]

Whateley's true clique of future super villains, all the more dangerous because they follow the team approach like superheroes instead of the "pack of wolves" approach typical of supervillains.

* AngryBlackMan
* GenderBender: And not happy about it.

* BaldOfEvil
* BeardOfEvil
* EvilGenius
* FourEyesZeroSoul
* GeekPhysique
* MadDoctor
* SinisterShades

* {{Brainwashing}}: turned her roommate Rachel into her devoted servant- though notably, ''not'' with psychic powers.
* SensualSlavs
* StatuesqueStunner

* AffablyEvil: He and Phase seem to get along well.
* CampGay: Likes lounging around in colorful island clothes while reading romantic sonnets.

* AffablyEvil
* BoringButPractical: His proposal for getting one of Jericho's old devices - just buy it from him.
* GadgeteerGenius

* EmotionEater

* EvilIsSexy [[invoked]]
* MulticoloredHair
* SupernaturalGoldEyes
* YoungerThanTheyLook

[[folder: Vindicators]]
Once one of the shining stars of the Whateley teams, the Vindicators have now become a shadow of their former selves, mainly because most of the old teammates were assigned to other teams and replaced with a RagtagBunchOfMisfits. The result is a complete mess of a team who most of the time can barely walk into a room together, and things aren't getting much better...

!!Kismet (Korende Mitterand)
A moderately talented mage who leads the Vindicators, and doesn't do it well.

* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Kismet wormed her way into the Vindicators because of their winning reputation and then drove away most of the members who had created that reputation
* ItsAllAboutMe: she ran off any team member competent enough to threaten her authority.
* TheManBehindTheMan: While Cerebrex is the official leader, Kismet pretty much leads him around by his hormones.
* TheNeidermeyer: To the point that when she knocks herself out early in a simulation, Sizemax takes over and the team beat the sim easily and work together really well.
* UnknownRival: She keeps comparing herself and the Vindicators to Fey and the rest of Team Kimba. Team Kimba doesn't even consider them rivals, and pretty much everyone else considers them a laughingstock.
** She also refuses to see that she's nowhere near Fey, power-wise.
* WindsOfDestinyChange: She can manipulate probability to give herself luck, but it can backfire horribly.

!!Lemure (Simone Billings)
Reluctant teammate who is disgruntled because Kismet has driven her team into the ground.

* BadPowersGoodPeople: She can walk into someone's body and take it over.
* DeadpanSnarker
* IntangibleMan
* OnlySaneMan
* ThisIsGonnaSuck: pretty much sums up her attitude every time she's forced to follow her teammates into battle.

!!Sizemax (Pam Henry)

* AFatherToHisMen: When she became leader for a sim.
* TheBigGuy: Literally, since she's a size warper.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: She's a great leader, she doesn't just get a chance to show it a lot.
* ExtremeDoormat: She's by far a better leader than both Cerebrex and Kismet combined, but she lets Kismet walk all over her to prevent infighting, even though it hasn't made anything better for the team.
* NiceGuy: The nicest one in the Vindicators.

!!Cerebrex (Alvin "Captain Canada!" Cuthbert)
The self-appointed leader of the Vindicators, Alvin is a package deal psychic who needs a focus to concentrate his powers. Alvin chose patriotism and calls himself "Captain Canada" over the objections of the Whateley faculty, who prohibit students from using titles, ranks, or degrees they have not earned, and his fellow Canadians, who consider him a doofus.

* CaptainPatriotic: Irritatingly so, to the point where virtually every other Canadian student ganged up on him to express their displeasure. Whately has a ''lot'' of Canadian students.
* ScienceRelatedMemeticDisorder: has a relatively mild case of Diedrick's Syndrome.

!!Donner (Pers Gundersson)
The Swedish Thor expy.

* YourCostumeNeedsWork: His costume has been described as if superheroes wanted to look like Vikings but didn’t do the research. It was a gray supersuit underneath fake Viking boots, fake Viking tunic, fake Viking arm bracers, and a fake Viking helmet.

!!Dynamaxx (Maximillian Dynsen)

* CasanovaWannabe: Uses some of the worst pick-up lines in existence but depends on the law of averages. He'll keep trying until someone says yes.
* GadgeteerGenius: though "Gadgeteer Mediocrity" is probably closer to the truth.
* PoweredArmor: uses one he has bought because he is not quite up to creating his own.

[[folder: Other students]]

!!JT (Jimmy Trauger aka "Jimmy T.")

A shapeshifter who can assume virtually any form, and often does, involuntarily. He tends to change in his sleep, and some of his transformations are so extreme he's not allowed a roommate lest he put them in danger. A nice guy actually, if a bit lonely.

* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: Pulled this off during the Halloween attack.
* BigEater
* BlessedWithSuck: Jimmy can easily turn into any living thing...except himself. That takes hours of concentration. And he's likely as not to wake up as a blob of protoplasm the next morning.
* BullyHunter
* ComboPlatterPowers: He was created with this in mind; his author stated that she just picked out three completely unrelated powers (shapeshifting, hearing the dead and being a psychic null)
* FirstPersonSmartass
* GenderBender: Male, female, neither, both, other... Jimmy's been it all, and he never knows what he's going to wake up as tomorrow.
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: During the Halloween fight, he killed a lot of attackers in the form of a giant monster. A lot of people were worried that he'd play the trope straight.
* ISeeDeadPeople: According to Jimmy founder Noah Whateley's ghost is quite bemused by what has become of his school
* NeverLiveItDown: In-universe. In his freshman year, some guy tried to bully him. He responded by turning into a giant blob and consuming him. After security forced him to spit the guy out, he said - jokingly - that he was 'tasty'. Now people think he's a cannibal.
* OfficialCouple: With Chimera, though 'couple' is the wrong word, given that Chimera are two people who share a body.
* PsychicBlockDefense: He's a psychic null. Nothing gets in and nothing gets out. He's about the only person around who can play chess against Fubar.
* ThirdLawOfGenderBending: Jimmy insists that his true gender is whatever gender he happens to be at the moment. It appears to be a psychological coping mechanism.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting / InvoluntaryShapeshifting: he can change his shape any time he wants, but he often changes shape in his sleep, to the extent that he sometimes has trouble getting himself presentable (e.g. human) for his morning classes.

!!Thuban (Stephan Chang)
A warper with reptilian features and the informal leader of the GSD kids on campus, though his slowly progressing relationship with Generator is causing some dissension amongst those who accuse him of selling out to a "pretty".

* [[spoiler: BiggerOnTheInside]]: His superpower. He keeps it top secret, simply pretending that his only power is, well, being a dragon.
* TheChessmaster: A fairly minor example.
* [[DefrostingIceQueen Defrosting Ice King]]: To Jade.
* PetTheDog: He formed Faction Three, a club designed to give GSD kids a place to hang out and be themselves.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: Well, he ''looks'' like one, anyway.

!!Seraphim (Kerry Ellison) aka "The Angel of Hell's Kitchen"
An empath and mystic focus with access to the highest reaches of mystical power, making her a much sought after "commodity" in the eyes of a great many of the powers both inside of and outside of Whateley.

* AmbiguousGender: After manifesting, s/he initially leaned towards this.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: [[spoiler: She nearly ''killed'' Father John for his betrayal and the part he'd played in her being used and manipulated.]]
* ChurchMilitant: she almost became one before she realized she was being manipulated and resents the other Church Militants who held her hostage.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Golden blonde hair and gold eyes.
* TheEmpath: required for her healing powers.
* ExtremeDoormat: Initially, but she's growing out of it.
* FamedInStory: as "The Angel of Hell's Kitchen", a mystical healer of enormous power
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Invoked, as it turns out. [[spoiler: Father John's idea of an angel induced the change in her BIT.]]
* HealingHands: Every time she heals someone, she takes on their illness or injury. And all the illnesses and injuries she's ever healed before. At least the older healings manifest themselves to a lesser and lesser degree over time, but it's still pretty grisly when she heals a cancer victim, after healing a blind person and a person with crippling arthritis and... Even worse, near the end of her intro novel, she's being held captive and forced to do this. And she's only 14.
* MysticalWhiteHair: Originally after manifesting.
* PowerGivesYouWings: Well, her codename is Seraphim, so it's not exactly a big surprise. Though the first time she manifests her angelic wings she flaps around and can't fly straight until she gets used to them..
* SupernaturalGoldEyes
* TakingAdvantageOfGenerosity: People were going to be lining up at the doors for a healer, but as time went on her own needs were no longer being taken into consideration. It started with bartering her services to curry favor with the rich and powerful without her knowlege, proceeded to overworking her without breaks to recuperate, and culminated in [[spoiler: drugging and imprisoning her when she threatened to leave.]]

!!Aquerna (Anna Parsons)

A fairly low-powered avatar who gets her powers from the literal spirit of the squirrel and started out as something of a campus joke because of it. But she proves to be fairly competent with what powers she does have as she gets more story time.

* {{Badass}}: She took on the entire Good Ol' Boyz and ''won''.
* {{Expy}}: She's SquirrelGirl without the PlotArmor.
* HollywoodHomely: In-universe. She's seen as cute by baseline standards, but plain by Whateley ones. This point gets driven home during the Christmas story when, much to her surprise, several of the boys in Kamuro's home town are really attracted to her.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: Once she stops lamenting how bad her powers are and figures out ways to use them, she starts kicking some serious arse.
* TheIngenue / NaiveEverygirl
* MotorMouth
* MundaneUtility: Anna's work-study job is with the groundskeeping department.
* ParentalAbandonment
* ThePowerOfFriendship: Anna is the nicest girl at Whateley, hands down, so when she needs help half the school practically falls all over themselves to lend her a hand.
* LeParkour: and a natural at it, as one would expect.
* SinisterScythe: Well, a kama, anyway.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: Can talk to squirrels.
* WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway: She frequently laments this.

!!Superchick (Misty Cooley)

Jadis' roommate. She's slightly ditzy and not too bright, but Jadis likes her because all of her previous roommates were either terrified or minion wannabes.

* AllGirlsLikePonies: Unicorns, to be exact.
* GravityMaster: She can lift several tons, or can slam someone to the ground with several tons of force. She has (unfortunately) named herself 'Superchick' and adopted a trademark-violating costume she made herself.
* MeaningfulName
* MotorMouth

!!Belphegor (Philip "Pip" Blackadar)
One of the better Devisors on campus (though not nearly as good as he thinks), Belphegor took his name from the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belphegor Demon of Sloth, Invention, and Feces]] in traditional demonology, and does his best to live down to it. Notorious for stealing other people's inventions and combining them into something new.

* CompensatingForSomething: his MID card.
* ScienceRelatedMemeticDisorder: he has Diedrick's Syndrome.
* InsufferableGenius: At least, he ''thinks'' he's a genius, and he's certainly insufferable.
* LazyBum: Sloth is is his major sin and problem. If he would put some effort into working with others he could be fantastic asset to any group project. He prefers to steal stuff because it's easier.
* MadScientist: He's a devisor with a pronounced talent for combining diverse things into actually functional devises.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: (Subverted SubvertedTrope) he's named for the demon of Sloth and Invention and he's a neurotic coward.

!! Josie Gillman (formerly Josh Gillman, no codename)
Technically not a mutant, Josie is a survivor of a family curse which endows some men in her family with savant-level mathematical abilities which provide the ability to transverse [[AlienGeometries non-euclidean space.]] Unfortunately it also [[TheseAreThingsManWasNotMeantToKnow drives them insane]] and grants them [[SupernaturallyDeliciousAndNutritious "exceptional tastiness"]] making them the EldritchAbomination equivalent of delivery pizza. Since this only applies to males of the Gilman line, Josh's GenderBender to Josie saved her. Unfortunately, her non-mutant status leaves her just about the only student at Whateley without any real powers, unless you count occasionally falling through the cracks in our reality and being really, really good at math. Josie also has a "cat" named Schroedinger that is actually a baby shoggoth; just who is the pet in that relationship is up for debate.

* AlienGeometries: Whateley had to set up special math classes just for Josie, as there are maybe three people in the whole world who can comprehend the subject without going insane and the other two are also at Whateley. One is her tutor Ecilia and the other is Sara Waite.
* ButtMonkey: The universe conspires to heap horror and humiliation on Josie. She mostly copes by refusing to accept delivery.
* ConditionedToAcceptHorror: Josie can see multiple levels of reality at once, most of which are filled with Cosmic Horrors. Pretty much nothing scares her anymore.
* ComicRelief: pretty much her place in the canon.
* {{Expy}}: Of Marcie from Peanuts. Lampshaded.
* GogglesDoSomethingUnusual: Her NerdGlasses filter out the sight of all of the [[EldritchAbomination unholy things]] clawing at the interstices of our universe.
* HypocriticalHeartwarming: Josh's sister Melissa tormented him after his GenderBender by giving him a very girly makeover. Turns out her true motivation was denying Josh the time to brood while teaching him things she thought a girl should know.
* FirstLawOfGenderBending: reversing her GenderBender would essentially lead to madness and death.
** SecondLawOfGenderBending: averted. Josie sees the necessity, but still...
** JumpingTheGenderBarrier: with Suzan Chylds, but [[StarcrossedLovers Josie doesn't see it and Suzan is in denial.]]
* SupernaturallyDeliciousAndNutritious: The Gillman family curse.
* TheseAreThingsManWasNotMeantToKnow: apparently women (and girls) have a much higher tolerance.
* WeirdnessMagnet: Eldritch horrors really, really like her; her GenderBender isn't even close to the weirdest thing that happens to her.
* TheWoobie: surprisingly averted: Josie simply refuses to view each humiliation as more than a temporary setback.
* WrongGenreSavvy: nearly to CloudCuckooLander levels, but it allows her to mostly shrug off things that would drive most people insane.

!!Suzan Chylds
The former Queen Bee of Josh's old school, now playing Peppermint Patty to Josie's Marcie.

* AlphaBitch: Of her old school. Turns our she had [[InternalizedCategorism reasons.]]
** LovableAlphaBitch: has taken a Josie under her wing now that they're stuck together at Whateley.
* FallenPrincess: from a mansion to a trailer park.
* AnIcePerson: She's the Paladin of an ice goddess, and has done her best to conceal this.
* InternalizedCategorism: Her father joined Humanity First after the untimely death of her mother, so she was raised in an environment guaranteed to cause self-loathing when her own powers manifested.
* LipstickLesbian: Not so much closeted as still in denial.

!!Stronghold (Stephen "Steve" Nalley)
Loophole's pesky younger brother who arrives at Whateley mid-year after emerging as an exemplar and PK superman and proceeds to mortify his older sister beyond reason

* AnnoyingYoungerSibling
* LeeroyJenkins: he kind of melts down when he finally realizes that Whateley is not a SuperHeroSchool.
* OneDialogueTwoConversations: HilarityEnsues when he tries to approach Phase for information about MegaGirl and Ayla assumes Steven is hitting on him.
* SweetOnPollyOliver: Inverted. Steve falls hard for Marty "Megagirl" Penn, not knowing that she's transgendered. Will the course of young love run true if she reveals that she's still physically male under her shell? [[spoiler: well, yes, actually, it does.]]

[[folder: Whateley Staff]]

!!Headmistress Elizabeth Carson (Lady Astarte)

* BigGood: Even the villains generally respect her.
* FlyingBrick
* IDidWhatIHadToDo
* MagicKnight: Or a magic [[FlyingBrick Brick]], anyway.
* OlderThanTheyLook: She looks like a hot movie starlet in her early thirties, but is actually over 70.
* RetiredBadass: When Syndicate dropships and the unstoppable cyborg Assassin Deathlist invade her school, the gloves come off. Oh, she turns out to be Lady Astarte, possibly the greatest superheroine still around.
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: Not forever, but she's aging at 1/3 the normal rate and has seen a lot of people die.

!!Chief Franklin Delarose

Head of Whateley security.

* BadassNormal: respected by a supervillain (and Whately alumni) who is feared worldwide.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Turns out to be a highly trained ex-special Forces military expert.
* SeenItAll

!!Amelia Hartford

* DeanBitterman: Despite not having the ''central'' administrative position, she still influences quite a few student affairs. A genuine smile from her managed to seriously creep out her student assistant. She has tried to get some of the protagonists expelled, and clearly gives the Alphas preferential treatment. And she seems to be in a 'vice principal' position at Whateley Academy.
* {{Jerkass}}:
** JerkassFacade: It's been hinted that she's putting on an act at least part of the time.
** {{Jerk With a| Heart of Gold}} HiddenHeartOfGold: Her nice side is reserved only for certain individuals.
* ObstructiveBureaucrat: The superpowered version of this. She uses her [[{{Technopath}} power over computers]] as well as her malicious nature to be the Obstructive Bureaucrat of your nightmares, except for the chosen few who get special privileges from her.
** As the stories go on, it's shown from time to time that she does in fact have a human side as well. She's nonetheless quite possibly the most difficult actual member of the school staff to get along with, and there's not much love lost between her and Team Kimba in particular.
* SadistTeacher: Well, school administrator, anyway. Carson briefly mentioned her having ''actual'' clinical sadism, in such a way that it was difficult to tell if she was joking.
* TechnoWizard
* WhenSheSmiles: The effect was actually disturbing to a student who witnessed it, seeing as it was such a change from her usual demeanor.

!!Samantha Everheart (Hive)

* EmpoweredBadassNormal: Sam was already a retired BadassNormal before he took out a team of criminals looting a high-tech research facility and got dosed with nanotechnology. Now Hive is strong and fast enough to deal with the mutants at Whateley Academy.
* KarmaHoudini: [[spoiler: During her military service, she murdered a girl and boy for no apparent reason. When other people find out about it, they don't care.]]
* {{Nanomachines}}: Sam Everheart is walking around in the Whateley Universe because Sam interrupted an attempt to steal a nanotechnology experiment and ended up getting the nanotech, which then did a whole-body alteration. Luckily, Sam survived it.
* OlderThanTheyLook
* {{Technopath}}: But she has merged with a nanite supercomputer called Hive so she has an unfair advantage

!!Sensei Ito

* BadassGrandpa: He's a little old (non-mutant) man, but a master of martial arts who is capable of beating the snot out of mutants in his classes, or even taking out a Syndicate battle-team.
* BadassNormal: A little old man, he starts every term's aikido classes by picking the most dangerous mutant in the room and demonstrating that he can kick said mutant's ass.
* CombatPragmatist: He encourages this in all of his students.
* DoesntLikeGuns: Being a martial artist, he used to not use guns. Then one of his sparring partners beat him by pulling a gun on him in the training room and shooting him with a paint round. He got over his aversion to guns real fast, after that.
* MiniatureSeniorCitizens: He's the short, elderly OldMaster who teaches aikido at the SuperheroSchool even though he's a baseline. More than once, Phase has thought of him as an evil old midget.
* OldMaster: He is a little old man without powers who teaches martial arts to teens who are mutants with superpowers. In his first appearance (the first day of classes), he schools PK superboy Lancer. In later stories, we learn that Lancer was the fourth superpowered teen he clobbered that day.

!!Reverend Darren Englund

* BadassPreacher: Not a mutant, maybe 80 or 90, but ''still'' fights the forces of darkness, including being willing to tackle {{Eldritch Abomination}}s all by himself. At this point, he's a KnightTemplar, though.
* ChurchMilitant
* HeWhoFightsMonsters
* InspectorJavert: To Sara
* KnightTemplar
* MoralityPet: Kerry. Nightbane and the rest of the Goobers also count, [[IdiotHero whatever you]] [[VanHelsingHateCrimes may think of them.]]
* [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Spell My Name With A U]]: It's Engl''u''nd, not Engl''a''nd. It doesn't help that half of the actual canon authors can't get it straight either.
* VanHelsingHateCrimes: With Sara.

!!Erik Mahren

* BadassNormal: Before he manifested
* BadassTeacher: You do ''not'' mess with his students. Even if you're [[spoiler: the Lamplighter.]]
* [[spoiler: {{Cape Buster|s}}]]: A former one.
* CombatPragmatist: [[spoiler: Before his emergence as a mutant.]] As one of the range instructors, he's the one who okays [[spoiler: or used to]] what is and is not allowed to be used on the range. And he ''is'' a BadassNormal, and is more than capable of defending himself against most of the students at Whateley - even the ones who think it's funny to sneak up behind people and stab them in the kidneys.
* DontCallMeSir
* GoodIsNotNice: Coarse, angry, and clinically insane after the horrors he experienced in a Black Ops group for the U.S. Defense Department, he acts like a JerkAss to the students. Except he'll do anything to keep students from being hurt on his ranges, and he was willing to be brutally ripped to pieces to save a teenage girl from killing herself.
* LeParkour
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: After [[spoiler: Cat is killed at Halloween]].

!!Louis Geinz (Fubar)
Former student and extremely talented Esper who encountered... ''[[EldritchAbomination something]]''... when he was a student, some twenty years ago. Now he's a permanent resident of Hawthorne Cottage (there's nowhere else he can go), and one of the senior Psychic Arts instructors.

* {{Cthulhumanoid}}: What his real body looks like.
* NiceGuy
* ProjectedMan: He communicates with people through a psychic projection.
* PsychicPowers
* TheSmartGuy: One of the smartest in the world.
** SmartPeoplePlayChess: Although thanks to his psychic powers only (unreadable, deceased-grandmaster-hearing) Jimmy T can give him a challenge.
* StealthHiBye: Tends to do this with his projection.

!!Earth Mother

* PlantPerson: she has plants growing out of her body.

!!Elyzia Grimes

* {{Expy}}: she's a dead ringer for [[Series/TheAddamsFamily Morticia Addams]].
* {{Familiar}}: a black cat named Merlin.

!Outside Whateley

[[folder: The Children of the Night]]

* FiveBadBand:
** The BigBad - The Necromancer, dark mage and A-minus level supervillain
** TheDragon - his pal Lycanthros, who has super-werewolf powers
** The EvilGenius - while the Necromancer is the planner and brains, Nightgaunt is the smartest fighter
** TheBrute - the Arch-Fiend, who turns into an eight-foot tall demon
** The DarkChick - since Lady Darke has the name and the dark-based powers
** The SixthRangerTraitor - Vamp, who has been blackmailed into joining the team and isn't happy about it
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast
* ObviouslyEvil

!!The Necromancer (Charles Upton Darrow)

* AxCrazy: He flips between a Saturday Morning cartoon villain and a devious chessmaster and you have no idea when this happens...
* BigBad
* EvilSorcerer
* {{Necromancer}}: [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Are you surprised?]]
* PoisonedWeapons: His gauntlet darts.
* VillainDecay: It's hard to take the man seriously when he's lost to the same group of teenagers twice. [[spoiler: he's starting to get better.]] Making this worse is the introduction of villains such as Mimeo, Mephisto, and to a lesser extent Lady Jettatura, all villains much more competent than him.
* XanatosGambit: He ''claims'' that his losses in Boston were him pulling these, but it comes off as a weak attempt to keep himself from looking bad. [[spoiler: However, the Birthday Brawl features him masterfully executing several of these, making out like a bandit and only failing one of his many objectives -- albeit, the most important one. That failure was caused by a [[DidntSeeThatComing fact that he couldn't have known: an Unknown Unknown.]]]]

* TheDragon: The Necromancer treats him like this, at least.
* EyepatchOfPower / MagicalEye: After Boston Brawl 1.
* KryptoniteFactor: To silver and mithril.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Between his human and werewolf forms.
* {{Werewolf}}

!!Lady Darke (Sandra K. Darden)

* CastingAShadow: Her favorite trick is to create psionic darkness that almost no one can see through.
* HighCollarOfDoom
* PsychicPowers: The source of her abilities

!!The Arch-Fiend (Wilbur Bunsen)

* BigRedDevil
* BreathWeapon
* TheBrute
* TheManBehindTheCurtain: His true form is a pudgy, middle-aged man.
* SpikesOfVillainy: In his demon form.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Between his human and demon forms.

* CombatPragmatist: His immediate reaction to being confronted by Lancer? Shoot him in the face.
* TheFaceless: He never takes off his helmet.
* LegacyCharacter: The original Nightgaunt was a BadassNormal hero. The new one, not.
* [[PowerCrystal Power Gems]]: The source of his [[{{Teleportation}} shadow-walking]] abilities.
* {{Teleportation}}
* TheVoiceless

!!Vamp (Alex O'Brien)

* DarkChick: Part of her image
* DepravedBisexual: An image she deliberately cultivates. She's actually chaste, possibly even a virgin
* EvilAlbino: The Evil is faked, the albinism is real
* EvilIsSexy [[invoked]]: she cultivates an image that deliberately mixes TheVamp and vampire.
* {{Hermaphrodite}}: A true bilateral hermaphrodite though it's not common knowledge as she always presents as female.
* MouthyKid: Just can't help it, even if it gets her tortured by her boss on occasion.
* PerkyFemaleMinion: To her boss The Necromancer. You know no one named The Necromancer is going to be a comedian.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Goes along with her albinism
* ReverseMole: She likes to think she's the FemmeFatale.
* SpannerInTheWorks: deliberately messes up as much as she dares get away with, because she's an unwilling draftee.
* TheVamp: [[CaptainObvious In case you hadn't guessed]].
* VampiricDraining: If she draws too much energy from the victim (say, a mutant with Energizer powers) she tends to go bananas until it wears off.

[[folder: Other Villains]]

!!The Chessmaster

* BigBad: During the Halloween attack.
* TheChessmaster
* ChessMotifs: Uses a lot of these, shockingly enough given his name. His normal mooks are called the Chessmen (cyborgs), his backup are the Rooks, his battlefield planning table is the Chessboard, and all his plans are various gambits, openers etc.
* DeceptiveDisciple
* NightmareFetishist: He's lovers with Deathlist.
* ScryVsScry: Against Mrs. Potter

* {{Cyborg}}: All robot except for his brain and his face.
* TheDragon: To the Chessmaster.
* HeroKiller: He's got the name because of the huge list of superheroes he has already killed, including ''Champion''. The only person we know of who has survived this killer cyborg is Lady Astarte in the Halloween story, and she had help from [[spoiler: a RealityWarper, a precognitive, and a really huge blaster]]. She still couldn't polish him off.
* ManOfWealthAndTaste: Wore a black pinstripe suit during the Halloween attack.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast
* WeCanRebuildHim: He's been rebuilt so many times the only human part of him is his head. Supposedly, his first rebuild was after his parents stuffed him into a trash compactor, decades ago.

!!Prince Vlad Brâncoveanu/Lord Fredrick Paramount
* DeadpanSnarker: One critic, bemoaning the fact that they had originally hoped to simply outlive him lamented, "He will bury us all!" To which, Lord Paramount asked whether the critic had a preference to a shovel with an ash handle or a pine handle for the job.
* PsychicPowers: has both telepathy and clairvoyance.
* RetiredMonster: supposedly retired from supervillainy.
* SorcerousOverlord: superpowered overlord actually.
* SuperStrength

!!Lady Jettatura
A member (and part of the Executive Board) of the New York Chapter of the Grand Hall of Sinister Wisdom.
* [[EvilSorcerer Evil Sorceress]]
* WickedCultured

!!Dr. Diabolik (Leonides Daibliku)

* AntiVillain / AffablyEvil: Caring father, hard-working inventor, BenevolentBoss, and by his own daughter's count, directly responsible for the lives of over 15,000 people in his raids on middle-sized cities around the world. When he attacks Cincinnati, he secretly encourages the heroes to triumph over his weapons, and when highly stressful problems occur, he politely asks his minions for ideas and rewards them for speaking up. Still, he attacks cities, knowing that tons of people will be killed or injured.
** When his children were the target of protestors and media outlets, he called each one of them up, at their homes, at their workplaces, on their mobiles... and calmly, politely, and non-threateningly explained to them that while he sympathized with them, attacking children over such a thing was a decidedly cowardly act. After that, the protestors just... went away.
* ArtificialLimbs: A bionic left arm.
* BenevolentBoss
* {{Electronic Eye|s}}
* GenreSavvy
* HerrDoktor: He deliberately plays this up.
* HornedHairdo
* LeanAndMean
* MadScientist
* OlderThanTheyLook: He's 75, but can pull off late forties.
* TheSmartGuy: Jadis also mentions that he has no patience with idiots.
* VisionaryVillain: He follows Timothy Leary's 'SMILE' concept (Space Migration, Increased Intelligence, Life Extension) and everything he does goes toward that aim.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: In his quest to save Humanity from itself, he's caused over 17,000 casualties

* AffablyEvil
* PetTheDog: she seems to keep getting into situations where her good nature shows through past her criminal history, first with Headrush, then with Mischief.
* PhantomThief: One of the best in the business. Her favorite trick is to replace a painting she's fond of with one of her own forgeries, and she's a good enough forger that her targets rarely notice. Sometimes she even returns them, with no one the wiser.
* ThenLetMeBeEvil: She wasn't given much of a choice, though she's less 'evil' than she is 'naughty'.
* {{Trickster}}

* AllYourPowersCombined: Can get all the powers of up to six supers. For four hours. He fought the heavy hitters of Team Kimba and gained their powers, beating them up and getting enough powers to go rob an impregnable diamond exchange. In decades of superbattles he has supposedly been beaten only twice, one of which was when he was only thirteen.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: He was one of the first students at Whateley Academy, and realized immediately that this was the opportunity of a lifetime. He took powers courses on just about ''everything'', becoming familiar with all the common power sets and how to use them. This led directly to his MO, which involved picking a fight with a whole super team, then using their copied powers to pull of his real caper, after which he'd lay low, disguising himself with his shapeshifting abilities while planning out his next heist and enjoying the good life in some world-class resort.
* DayInTheLimelight: After his first appearance, he got his own novella, "Mimeographic."
* PowersAsPrograms: Regular power mimics can do this with mutant powers. He can do this with ''any'' powers.
* HeroKiller: Despite not actually killing anyone, he is infamous for taking on entire superhero teams and winning.
* TechnicalPacifist: He doesn't kill people. Doesn't have a problem with people he works for doing it, though.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting
* {{Younger Than They Look}}/{{Older Than They Look}}: When he first manifested at age 12, he would often look older than he was. Later on in life, he would look younger, though without regeneration it was only superficial. [[ZigZaggedTrope At the end of "Mimeographic" his body is physically 18, but he shapeshifts to appear as if he were 28, and mentally, he's actually 55.]]

!!Mephisto the Mystic

* AffablyEvil
* AncientConspiracy: He's a member of the Red Brotherhood, a cabal dedicated to awakening humanity from their sleepwalking state - by causing mayhem and chaos.
* ArchNemesis: Despite stating that it's a bad idea to become to obsessed with a single hero, he ''really'' hates the Dark Avenger.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: The Red Brotherhood taught him several genuine mental powers, though he rarely uses them openly.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy
* OlderThanTheyLook
* ThePlan: More or less every scheme he's ever pulled.
** KansasCityShuffle: Most of his more public capers were set up primarily to distract the heroes from more mundane crimes done by his Mob associates.
* ThePowerOfActing: Most of his plans involve using stage magic, hypnotism, and other tricks to fake super powers, and he's used elaborately staged hoaxes (everything from an AlienInvasion to a ZombieApocalypse) to keep his enemies guessing.
* UnreliableNarrator: We learn about him through a story that he's telling to an IntrepidReporter. It's obvious from the beginning that he's biasing the narrative in his favor. [[spoiler: Then at the end, he reveals that most of what he said was made up, with enough of it true that it will pass scrutiny should someone like Doctor Amazing dig the details out of said reporter's mind]].

!!Freya (Friedeslinge Larssen)

* [[spoiler: AGodAmI: She thinks she has done this in the climax of ''Whilst Any Speaks'', but it was all a hoax.]]
* [[spoiler: AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: She returns in ''Whilst Any Speaks'' with a plan to find the actual Brisingamen and take it for her own, as she believes that it will make her a goddess.]]
* BeautyIsBad
* BenevolentBoss: Freya never gets angry, never yells, never forces people to do things her way. If someone has an objection, she explains, cajoles, slowly convinces them. If they have a legitimate point, she'll change her plan to work with their point. She's very good at making people loyal to her.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Even without the Brisingamen Effect, Freya was ''very'' good at acting like a nice person to deceive people.
** This also sums up the Alphas under her role- they were still cruel, but Freya at least gave everyone a good time. The Don just crushes them.
* BookDumb: Turns out that Freya was woefully ignorant of pop culture, [[spoiler: meaning that when She-Beast manufactured an obvious hoax with the aim of getting Freya beaten up and humiliated, Freya took it seriously and wound up genuinely believing that she could become a goddess.]]
* TheChessmaster
* TheEvilGenius: Freya is an ''incredibly'' smart person.
* LackOfEmpathy: Freya had no personal feelings or loyalty for anyone (possibly excepting Songbird). If she did something nice, it was only to manipulate them.
* ManipulativeBastard: One of the best.
* MindRape: Her 'Brisingamen Effect', which made everyone it was used on want to love her and serve her.
* MeaningfulName: She picked the codename because her power mimicked an artefact of the original Freya. (She was also a tall, blonde, beautiful Scandinavian.)
* [[PosthumousCharacter Post-Graduation Character]]: She graduated the year the stories begin, so we only hear about her and see her in flashbacks, until ''Whilst Any Speaks''.
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler: When her plot in ''Whilst Any Speaks'' is revealed to be a hoax by Jadis to get back at her for humiliating her at the Alpha party, she breaks down, refusing to believe that she has not become a goddess.]]
* XanatosGambit: Everything Freya did served her purpose on at least three levels.
** One example: She sends an Alpha called Wildman, a regenerator, to pick a fight with Kodiak. Wildman ends up provoking Kodiak so much that Kodiak effectively kills him (his body survives but his brain regenerates as blank) and Kodiak ends up friendless for the rest of the year. This achieves three things: 1, Kodiak, friendless, feared and lonely, is easy for Freya to recruit; 2, Wildman is out of the Alphas, and 3, a deviser Freya favoured gets a reprieve from Wildman's bullying.

!!Songbird (Maria Contessa Elyssa Gomez y Ricardo)

* AbusiveParents: [[spoiler: Her stepfather raped her, her mother knew and didn't care, and after she graduated, her mother cleaned out Songbird's bank accounts and moved away without telling her daughter.]]
* CompellingVoice
* TheDragon: To Freya. She was one of, if not Freya's closest friend, and she was one of Freya's enforcers with Kodiak.
* [[spoiler: GoodAllAlong: Admittedly nobody who worked for Freya had clean hands, but Songbird was far from the raping monster Loophole thought she was.]]
* LethalHarmlessPowers: She can control people with her voice and wipe their memories, hence her role as Freya's enforcer.
* LipstickLesbian: She was in Poe and an openly out lesbian.
* OverlyLongName
* [[spoiler: RapeAsBackstory: She was raped by her stepfather.]]
* UnreliableNarrator: [[spoiler: ''Whilst Any Speaks'' revealed that the entire 'Songbird raped Loophole and made her forget about it' story was bullshit. The author even pointed out that ''A Cold Plate Of Vengeance'' was being told to Ayla by Elaine, not a description of what exactly happened.]]

!!Dr. Fitzroy J. Cobb/Dr. Macabre/The Monster Maker

* BadBoss
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: To the Syndicate.
* [[spoiler: HoistByTheirOwnPetard: He loses the spirit that guided him for years, and then afterwards, for abducting his kid, Mister Magic throws him into the Monster Maker and delivers the results to the California Crusaders.]]
* MadScientist
* [[spoiler: MagicPoweredPseudoscience: His Monster Maker changes those he puts in it by making them avatars for spirits. Nobody was able to figure it out because it was magic, but it looked like science.]]
* {{Magitek}}: what he wants to create. He's had little luck so far.

!!Marzena Twardovski/The Bell Witch

* AbusiveParents: Her relationship with Nacht in a nutshell.
* BecauseDestinySaysSo: Nacht has her convinced that her fate is to die horribly at the hands of the Witch Hunter. As a result, she is unconcerned with other forms of death. Whether this is actually true or not is unknown, but given the power Nacht had at the time, it's entirely possible.
* CastingAShadow: She uses Erebeal Magic, using Nacht as a power source.
* HoistByTheirOwnPetard: [[spoiler: To get what she wants, she turns Nacht into a demigoddess capable of amazing things. However, what she didn't realise was that Nacht wanted nothing to do with her, and was making previous plans. In the end, Marzena ends up with nothing.]]
* IdiotBall: Tries to gain ultimate power while making someone else- namely, the person making it possible- pay for it, something any competent mystic knows is just plain dumb.
* NothingCanStopMeNow: Believes this to be the case… right before her downfall.
* TheReveal: [[spoiler: She's not Nacht's mother at all. She abducted Nacht as a baby, dipped her into the Erebos and, finding that she survived, adopted her.]]
* WouldHurtAChild: When Nacht was a baby, Marzena dipped her into the Erebos and didn't expect her to survive.

!!Dr. Venus
* IControlMyMinionsThrough: sex
* MadScientist
* ProfessorGuineaPig: her appearance and Energizer powers are the result of selfinduced bio-engineering and have to be renewed often.
* TheRival: To Jobe.

[[folder: Heroes]]

One of the Boston area superheros. He's The Protector of the Weak, and is imbued with the Power of the Hawk. He seems to talk like a parody of a bad comic book superhero.
* DatingCatwoman: actually Vamp
* TheDitz
* IdiotHero: Forethought is not his strong point.

!!The Lamplighter

* TheBlank: He wears a white, featureless, full-face mask.
* CaptainErsatz: Of the Comicbook/GreenLantern, powers-wise.
* JerkAss
* KnightTemplar: Overlaps with him being LawfulStupid.
* LawfulStupid
* LightIsNotGood
* LightEmUp

* BigGood
* CaptainErsatz: It's made blatantly obvious from the moment he's introduced that he's a Superman equivalent. "Razzle-Dazzle" makes it even more obvious, revealing that he started out only with super strength and the ability to jump really far, but gained powers like flight and heat vision as he absorbed more power from his enemies -- in other words, he followed the same progression the real Superman did.
* KryptoniteFactor: The original Champion believed that his powers could be negated by a substance called "Tartareum." No such substance exists; his reaction to "Tartareum" (That is to say, any black chunk of rock that he thought was actually Tartareum) was purely psychosomatic. Unfortunately, this was only discovered ''after'' his death, and his first successor (who learned everything he 'knew' about his powers from the original) shared this weakness; later ones do not, although we still have to meet the ''modern'' Champion in an actual story.
* LegacyCharacter: Champion's powers come from "The Champion Force," which can be passed on to someone else should he die. This has happened multiple times.
* WeaksauceWeakness: See "KryptoniteFactor" above. Anyone who could convince the original Champion that a chunk of rock was tartareum could take advantage of his one weakness. He was finally killed with nothing more than a glass knife, because it was carved from black volcanic glass and both he and his nemesis were convinced that it was made of tartareum.

!!The Dark Avenger

* AncientConspiracy: Is a member of one. [[UnreliableNarrator Maybe]].
* CaptainErsatz: Of various titular characters, mostly of ''Franchise/{{Batman}}'', but there are strong elements of ''ComicBook/ThePunisher'', ''Franchise/TheGreenHornet'', and ''ComicBook/TheSpirit'' as well.
* KnightTemplar: [[UnreliableNarrator Maybe]].

!!Jack Rabbit
* BigManOnCampus: What he used to be. That it didn't mean much once he was out of school was a bit of blow to his sanity.
* InNameOnly: He is only called a hero because people aren't aware of what a nutjob he really is.
* KidSidekick: he keeps recruiting them, despite it being incredibly illegal, but also has gotten at least two killed.
* MindManipulation: How he recruits his sidekicks and why he isn't in jail.
* PowerCrystal: the source of his powers.

[[folder: California Crusaders]]

* HiddenDepths: She looks like a bimbo, but she's actually incredibly smart- and tough. Her dynamorph is one of, if not the strongest one out there.
* LightEmUp
* LightIsGood: She's a very kind and sweet person, who genuinely cares about Kate.
* NiceGuy
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Her bubbly blond personality hides a sharp intellect.
* OlderThanTheyLook
* SecretPublicIdentity

* BadassNormal
* CombatParkour
* LegacyHero: He's the fourth to use the name Swashbuckler.
* NonPoweredCostumedHero

* Myth/AztecMythology: She's the paladin of Quetzalcoatl.
* InspectorJavert: Doesn't like or trust Nacht, believing that she was lying to the team from the start and working with the bad guys. (She was, but it wasn't her choice.)
** Later, it turns out that she had a bet with Sunburst over it, so she was trying to prove that Nacht was a criminal so she could win.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: "Bruja" or "Brujah"? The text isn't quite clear on which.
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: Invokes this on [[spoiler: demigoddess!Nacht]], saying that she can't [[spoiler: destroy Marzena's mind to find out the identity of her real mother]] because Sunny will be upset. It works.

!! Daybreak and Nightfall

* FinishingEachOthersSentences
* PolarOppositeTwins: Their schtick is to arrange their appearance so that they look like opposite halves of a whole- Nightfall is white, wears black and has black hair, while Daybreak is black, wears white and has white hair.

* GadgeteerGenius

!!Big Dawg

* EmbarrassingFirstName: Beauregard.
* HiddenDepths: He's a very successful businessman, one who aims to support the black community by finding people like Chiller, who can become his apprentices and then become successful businesspeople like him.
* SizeShifter

* AnIcePerson
* HeelFaceTurn: He used to run a car-stealing ring, but was caught and has now become Big Dawg's apprentice.
* TagalongKid

[[folder: SPECTRUM]]
SPECTRUM is the name of Cincinnati’s most recent superhero group whose members mostly act on their own rather than as a team. They were given their name by the media because of the color names of the founding members. They collectively act as the guardians of Stacy Conrad.

!!Golden Knight
* BadassNormal: the one non-powered hero in Spectrum
* SurveillanceDrone: he also uses them as additional powrsources for his robot

A former core member of the team who went too far and got sent to prison for assault and property destruction, he's now out on parole and wants to get back in the game, but most of the others want little to do with him.

* FantasticRacism: He's clearly not a fan of mutants, though so far he's mostly stopped short of blatant bigotry. Mostly.
* JerkAss
* WhatTheHellHero: He actively interfered with Silver Ghost's pursuit of Madcap, and then blamed her for letting Madcap get away. The local District Attorney, who had pulled a lot of strings to get Silver Ghost into position for the takedown, had some less than happy words for him.
* TheTeamWannabe: While he is actually still on the team despite his stretch in prison, not many of the members want to put up with him, even if they can't actually kick him out.

!!Green Witch

* BenevolentBoss
* DealWithTheDevil:She gets her power from an infernal contract that she inherited from a several times great grandmother. She's the 7th in the line, and she has to cancel out the contract with a sufficient amount of Grace (good deeds) to balance the evil her ancestors have done, or she (and the rest of them) will pay the price.
* ElaborateUndergroundBase: her Witchcave
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: thanks to her Pool of Vigor.
* RagsToRiches: she was raised by middle class parents. Then she inherited a fortune from her grandmother.

!!Blue Streak
* SuperSpeed

!!Red Thunder
* PowerCrystal: he's bonded with a powergem.

!!Captain Patriot
* CaptainPatriotic: He leads a super-team in Cincinnati.
* FlyingBrick

* AtrociousAlias: While it isn't all that bad, 'Tawny' was the name given to her by the media (because it fit with SPECTRUM's ThemeNaming) rather than one she chose, and she's not happy with it.
* CatGirl / PettingZooPeople: Lioness, specifically

!!Silver Ghost (Stacy Conrad)
* AbusiveParent
* FlyingBrick
* GenderBender: and ''thrilled'' about it.
* IHaveNoSon: His/her step-father George was looking for an excuse to kick Stanley out anyway, even before s/he manifested as a mutant.
* {{Invisibility}}
* MistakenForBadass: When her boyfriend Danny had her raiding local mobsters for money, everyone assumed that she was a really slick professional criminal to pull of what she did, when in fact she was mostly just lucky. When the Green Witch caught her, she broke down and started crying.
* PsychicPowers: Evidence indicates that she's a 'Package Deal Psychic' - her strength and invulnerability come from short-range psychokinesis, her invisibility is a form of mental shrouding, and she has (intermittent) telepathic and empathic powers. She's apparently quite powerful (at least for TheVerse) despite her lack of experience, as unlike most others with this power set she can use more than one of these abilities at a time.
* {{Runaway}}: with plenty of reason.
* SelfDeprecation: Stacy's self esteem is in the pits, and it shows.
* {{Transsexual}}

!! Swashbuckler
The second Swashbuckler is not a member of SPECTRUM, or an active hero anymore, but while he's passing through Cincinnati looking for a worthy student, he's acting as an advisor to the team.

* BadassGrandpa
* CombatParkour: Though he was doing it long before LeParkour came along.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy
* LegacyHero: He's the second Swashbuckler, and was active mainly in the 1950s and 1960s. He's a predecessor to the current Swashbuckler (see California Crusaders above), but has been retired for years.
* NonPoweredCostumedHero: While he does have at least one power item, he's mostly this.
* TheMentor: he's no longer an active hero, but he's now looking for a new student to teach his skills to.
