Honest Advisor: The one person Steven can always trust to be this.
Hyper Awareness: Before her accident she was even better at this than Steven; nowadays she applies it to things like tone of voice, but is not as effective.
Non-Action Guy: At least, not directly. He is not above using remote-controlled drones to do the dirty work for him, though.
The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: Yvette makes him the head of IT, but there are about three Terran computers in the building and two of them belong to him. He ends up sitting around Mission Control for when Steven needs Tech Fu.
A multiversal woman who drafts Steven, Harrison, and Chris into helping her in the first episode, and hires them on to her new "extraneous solutions provider" for the second.
Bifurcated Weapon: The Vorherrschaft can either work as a radiation cannon (in areas without an atmosphere) or create a massive beam of plasma (by ionizing areas with an atmosphere).
No Social Skills: She has some issues with interpersonal relationships, be they platonic or romantic. Lorelei calls it "endearing awkwardness", while everyone else prefers "really creepy".
Older than They Look: Part and parcel for Valdenites; she gives her age as twenty-seven, and looks it... but that age is in Valden standard cycles. That makes her about seventy-three Terran years old.
Mad Scientist: Has some of the traits, but sees science more as something fun to read about rather than a long-term career choice. For reference, she is one of the few people who can keep up with Yvette on a decephamine high.
Morality Pet: To Yvette, although sometimes it is the other way around.
The head of OMNI, the Terran Men in Black, which he describes as "overworked, understaffed, and underfunded". Serves as Yvette and Lorelei's Mysterious Employer in the first episode.
A mysterious girl who shows up before major events with mysterious words of advice. She is a Class 0 manipulative, gifted with complete access to all information in the multiverse. However, she is not able to be in two places at once, and she has the same travel restrictions as everyone else, frequently causing her departure from the plot, and making her spend a lot of time traveling.
In Mysterious Ways: She optimizes her actions to take the least time but impart the most useful information.
Not So Omniscient After All: Played with; she does know the future (although her knowledge of the future is really more like "knowledge of all possible futures that could branch off from this instant"), but taking the time to communicate anything that is not incredibly important takes her away from the literally infinite list of other important things to say.
A Valdenite researcher, developing hardware for transphase field computers. Yvette calls him in to investigate an unknown component found at the site. He is actually the bomber.
Instant Death Radius: Get within melee range of her suit and it is far safer just to self-destruct.
Latex Space Suit: Her sensor suit; justified in that it is meant for motion-capture. Not really played for Fanservice as she is always wearing a bulky exoskeleton over it.
Sharpened to a Single Atom: Her sword and Razor Wire, although both are reinforced in the center to avoid being totally destroyed by friction alone. (Without her suit constantly refabricating them, each blade is only good for one strike.)
Honor Before Reason: Yvette points out she could leave at any time, but claims that because she lost the duel, she needs to help Yvette achieve her goals.
Sliding Scale of Robot Intelligence: Nobel-bot. She is extremely intelligent, and can outthink ordinary humans with hardware alone, but is pretty detached from how humans percieve reality.
A mysterious, affable man who can always be found sorting books in areas suspiciously close to multiversal activities.. He introduces himself as a "freelance librarian", and seems to live in a network of musty old bookstores and city buses. He is revealed to be an agent of the local Men in Black, and is Steven's first rival.
The Arthur Dent: Formerly; he has since become a variant of the "evolved" version.
Badass Bookworm: His official job is "freelance librarian", and he certainly looks and acts the part; however, he is also one of the foremost Chessmasters of The Verse.
Psychotic Smirk: Universally accepted as Harlanese for "exactly as planned".
The Schizophrenia Conspiracy: Averted; his schizophrenia was rather heavily researched. His symptoms are alogia, some schizophasia, tactile hallucinations (he sometimes feels objects, usually water, that are not there), disorganized behavior (unusual emotional responses), and some avolition. The treatments have helped him quite a bit, and unless he goes off the meds it is very hard to spot.
Shown Their Work: He has mild akathisia (also known as "restless leg syndrome"), and takes haloperidol for his schizophrenia; akathisia is a very real side-effect of the medication.
