    Protagonists

Kenshi Masaki

Voiced by: Hiro Shimono (Japanese), Jason Liebrecht (English)
The younger half-brother of Masaki Tenchi, he has spent his entire life being "educated" in the Masaki household.

Lashara Earth XXVIII

Voiced by: Madoka Yonezawa (Japanese), Jad Saxton (English)
The twelve year old queen of Shtrayu, she is a member of the Student Council and Kenshi's prime benefactor during the series.

  • A Child Shall Lead Them: She's crowned as the ruler of Shtrayu in the first episode, but Babalun effectively controls the country while she's attending school in the Holy Land.
  • Cool Ship: The Swan.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold
  • Money Fetish: See below.
  • Ms. Vice Girl: She eagerly takes advantage of all the money and status she can get (especially what she can get because of Kenshi), but from the moment she spares Kenshi she shows a deep compassion for both him and Chiaia.
  • Ojou Ringlets
  • Phenotype Stereotype: Averted since she's a native of Geminar.
  • Please Don't Leave Me: Tells Kenshi this in episode 10 upon realizing that he is a free agent.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red to Chiaia's blue.
  • Royal "We": The Funimation English translations use this to translate her use of Keigo and the first-person pronoun "ware".
  • Shout-Out: Her name is a reference to Lashara Moon and Photon Earth from Photon, another work from Kajishima.
  • The Woman Wearing the Queenly Mask: She's not the most regal personality in the world, but it's made clear that a lot of how she acts is because of the weight of responsibility she's had to bear.

Chiaia Flan

Voiced by: Natsuko Kuwatani (Japanese), Morgan Garrett (English)
Personal bodyguard to Queen Lashara, she is a seikishi and a childhood friend of Dagmyer.

Mexiah Flan

Voiced by: Ayumi Tsunematsu (Japanese), Jamie Marchi (English)
The elder sister of Chiaia, she is an instructor at the Holy Land Academy who appears to specialize in seikishi training, physical fitness and combat techniques.

Maria Nanadan

Voiced by: Momoko Saito (Japanese), Tia Ballard (English)
Lashara's cousin and Princess of Havoniwa. She and Lashara have a rather strong rivalry.

Yukine Mare

Voiced by: Mie Sonozaki (Japanese), Kristi Kang (English)
Maria's personal attendant and bodyguard. Yukine is also a seikishi and is shyly in love with Kenshi.

  • Action Girl: Maria's bodyguard.
  • Animal Motifs: Her Seikishi outfit features a butterfly on her back. Her Seikijin also has a moth motif.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Shows up in the nick of time to prevent the Meteor Fall (which was hijacked by Cordyline and the bandits) from destroying the Swan in episode 10, giving Kenshi a chance to take out one of the reactors that was keeping it afloat.
  • Crush Blush: Practically every time she looks at Kenshi.
  • Cry Cute: In episode 6 after finding out that her bare breasts are pressing against Kenshi's chest (after being disrobed and pushed by Flora, no less), requiring both Lashara and Maria to comfort her afterwards. D'aww...
  • Foil: To Chiaia, as Maria's bodyguard.
  • Miko: She may not look it, but she comes from a long line of them back in her homeland who were able to communicate with the Goddess, just like Real Life mikos with the kami.
  • Rei Ayanami Expy: White-haired, stoic and dutiful, except for when she acts shy in the presence of the guy she's in love with.
  • Shrinking Violet: When it comes to Kenshi.
  • The Stoic
  • Super Speed: Her Seikijin has two jets on its back that allow her to travel at supersonic speeds, which played a key element in her Big Damn Heroes moment.

Wahanly Shume

Voiced by: Rie Nakagawa (Japanese), Cherami Leigh (English)
Daughter of Lord Naua and a member of the Barrier Workshop. Although also a seikishi, Wahanly is often seen piloting her steam-power Spider Tank inventions.

Lithia Po Cheena

Gryno voiced by: Ayano Ishikawa (Japanese), Ryan Reynolds (English)
Wreda voiced by: Eri Taruta (Japanese), Michelle Rojas (English)
Four upperclassmen often encountered by Kenshi and company. They are not quite as nice to their underclassmen as they to Kenshi.

Lapis Larz

Voiced by: Hiromi Konno (Japanese), Alexis Tipton (English)
Lithia's aide, she was introduced as a victim of bullying by her upperclassmen.

Ceres Taito

Voiced by: Takayuki Sasada (Japanese), Josh Grelle (English)
A male seikishi from a humble background, he is the only male seikishi who is not part of the male seikishi clique in Kenshi's class and treats Kenshi well.

  • Beta Couple: With Hazuki.
  • Morality Pet: Episode 6 establishes its characters' moral bona-fides by their reaction to him trying to meet with Hazuki. Kenshi agrees to keep quiet as soon as he hears, tries to arrange for the pair to escape together, and asks his harem to do the same. The haremettes agree, with various degrees of reluctance, because of Kenshi. Dagmyer, who overheard Ceres explaining to Kenshi, dismisses him as a wuss for not taking what he wants, but keeps quiet. On the other hand, Cordyline is introduced helping smuggle Ceres to his rendezvous, but reveals that she's planning to kidnap and sell him.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Again, with Hazuki, because of his status as a Sacred Mechamaster. This later becomes defied upon joining the Swan (now under Kwnshi's leadership).
  • Unwitting Pawn: To Cliff's plan.

    Antagonists

Babalun Mesut

Voiced by: Hiroki Yasumoto (Japanese), R Bruce Elliott (English)
Prime minister of Shtrayu who is openly suspected of attempting to assassinate Lashara.

Dagmyer Mesut

Voiced by: Takuya Sato (Japanese), Duncan Brannan (English)
Son of Babalun, he is an arrogant male seikishi who is often shown to be a lot less capable than he thinks he is.

  • Blondes are Evil
  • Char Clone
  • Even Evil Has Standards: In episode 11 where he accepted Cliff's heinous plan to lure in (and eventually kill) Kenshi using Ceres as bait with a dangerous reactor strapped to the back of his Seikijin. He showed some disgust in the plan, but hesitantly accepted in hopes of it succeeding, even if it means having to kill another Seikishi.
  • Likes Older Women: Apparently he has a thing going on with Cordyline. It didn't last long.
  • Manipulative Bastard
  • Overlord Jr.
  • The Resenter: He becomes more fearful and resentful of Kenshi as time passes, and it shows.
  • Unlucky Childhood Friend: To Chiaia — although she's attracted to him, the rules forbidding male and female Seikishi dating freely kept them apart (Ultimately, the problem was Dagmyer's inferiority complex).
  • Villain Decay
  • Villainous Breakdown: Dagmyer has one spanning most of the series due to growing fear and resentment of Kenshi. It culminates in a Freak Out and complete mental collapse in episode 11 after Kenshi goes berserk in his Seikishi, brutally kills one of his comrades, and nearly does the same to Dagmyer, scaring him shitless.
  • Villainous Valour: His duel with Kenshi in the final episode is made of this trope. He's still hopelessly outmatched, but he faces his fears head-on and meets defeat with honor.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Dagmyer wants to change the status quo because he's sick of being treated like a stud horse. Too bad he's doing this by following Babalun's orders.

Ulyte Mesut

Voiced by: Tatsuhisa Suzuki (Japanese), J. Michael Tatum (English)
Brother of Babalun and an instructor in the Holy Land Academy. He has a weak constitution and often has to rest after exerting himself.

  • Affably Evil
  • Best Served Cold: He has devoted the remainder of his life left before Neizai takes over permanently to destroying Gaia — by serving as his right-hand man until an opportunity presents itself.
  • Big Brother Mentor: For both Kenshi and Dagmyer.
  • The Consigliere: Right-hand man to Babalun.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: Although he's one of the top people in Babalun's conspiracy, it's clear that he has plans of his own.
  • Good All Along: While made to look like one of the villains, both Ulyte and Neizai turn out to have always been on Kenshi's side. Both simply had to play along with Babalun in order to stop him.
  • Sharing a Body: With Neizai/Rea Second ever since her Heart Drive crystal was implanted in him.
  • Soap Opera Disease: Collapsed from weakness in the second episode. Another character to feel the benefits of Kenshi's special health drinks.

Doll

Voiced by: Mai Goto (Japanese), Monica Rial (English)
A mysterious seikishi working for Babalun.

Neizai One

Voiced by: Ayumi Tsunematsu (Japanese), Martha Harms (English)
A masked woman who appears to serve as one of Babalun's agents and as one of his seikishi.

  • Action Girl
  • Cool Mask, White Mask of Doom: She even has a mask on her Seikijin.
  • Enigmatic Minion: She's part of Babalun's faction, but seems to answer only to Ulyte.
  • Good All Along: much like Ulyte.
  • Ninja: She obeys several of the tropes, especially when she talks to Ulyte from an unseen location.
  • Pet the Dog: She seems to have a soft spot for both Kenshi and Emera, and will reward those that help them with useful-if-cryptic information or well-timed assistance from the shadows.
  • Spy Catsuit

Cliff Cleese

Voiced by: Kenji Takahashi (Japanese), Jerry Jewell (English)
Dagmyer's sidekick, he is often portrayed as far less moral than Dagmyer himself, even to the point of firing his seikishi rifle at fleeing students For the Evulz.

Alan

Voiced by: Takayuki Sasada (Japanese), Joel McDonald (English)
One of Dagmyer's minions who is often seen playing chess against Dagmyer.

Neil

Voiced by: Hiroshi Miyazaki (Japanese), Ian Sinclair (English)
One of Dagmyer's lackeys.

Cordyline is the leader of a troupe of bandits with her daughter Lan as her second in command.

Emera

Voiced by: Hyo-sei (Japanese), Shelley Calene-Black (English)
A seikishi who serves as Dagmyer's faithful attendant. She often provides a voice of conscience but it usually ignored.

  • Bodyguard Crush: On Dagmyer.
  • Foil: To Chiaia — another basically good, highly skilled Seikishi in love with Dagmyer; the main difference between them may ultimately have been who they served.
  • Love Martyr: She gets more and more disgusted at the whole hoopla as the series progressed, but stays out of her love to Dagmyer.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong
  • Subordinate Excuse

Gaia

The strongest Seikijin created by the Ancient Civilization and the being responsible for its downfall.
