The Heroes
Lucky Starlight
The central protagonist, an optimistic and idealistic young star elf from the rural moon of Velda. He finds a mysterious golden ring - which he dubs the "Star Catcher" - and quickly becomes a target for rogues and villains all over the galaxy. He's recruited into Jango's crew, where he begins a journey to follow his dreams that will take across the universe and beyond. Fate has certain plans in store for him, though, and he soon realises that his role in the fate of the cosmos may be more than he ever expected. His soul's power is Hope.
Character Development: Starts out as an idealistic young, matures into a cool and confident hero and ends up as a Messiah figure.
Cool Sword / Laser Blade: He gains one in the second part - a mechanical sword with a star-shaped pommel and light-blue energy blade. It's powered by his spirit.
Determinator: That brighter future he's always talking about? Yeah, he's sticking to that.
The Fool: His naivete often leads him right into danger that, otherwise, could easily have been avoided. He gets better and becomes The Messiah later on.
True Companions: He'd do anything for his friends. Anything.
The Unchosen One: He found the ring by pure chance (or so he thinks), and when he realises it's more than just a chance at childhood wish fulfillment, he decides he's going to go through with it anyway because it's the right thing to do. It's implied he isn't the first one to find the ring either, just that he's the first one to not give up or screw it up for himself.
Wide-Eyed Idealist: He starts out as one of these, but gradually becomes more realistic and less naive, while still retaining his hopeful spirit.
The most infamous outlaw in his own galaxy and beyond, Jango is a hot-blooded and courageous young man who values his freedom and crew above all else. He's on a mission to take on the Schwarzsol Empire, a powerful bastion of evil and fear. He fights first, asks questions later, laughs in the face of death and danger and knows he has what it takes to prove himself a hero. His soul's power is Courage.
Catch Phrase: "If you wanna live like a hero, you'd better be ready to die like a hero!"
The Chosen One: He was the previous candidate to get the ring and become the Messiah, but he screwed it up royally. Hence, he's training Lucky to be a better hero than he was and ensure he doesn't make the same mistakes.
The Hero: Depending on your view, though he shares this role with Lucky later on.
Heroic Sacrifice: Subverted when, while on the verge of dieing, he punches Death in the face and returns to life.
The team mechanic, a nervous and timid "bugman" who prefers to build and fix things than actually fight. While he's known to panic at the drop of a hat, he's nontheless a remarkably intelligent and knowledgeable person who puts the well-being of his crewmates above all else. His soul's power is Dedication.
Beware the Nice Ones / Took a Level in Badass: When Fey is put in grave danger, he goes completely against his frail, timid nature and beats the stuffing out of the offender. He remains subsequently better at holding his own in a fight and not letting others push him around.
A snow elf from the ice planet Frijj, Zetti is an enigmatic girl who says very little and prefers to let her actions do the talking. Beneath her cool, deadpan - and at times dry - exterior, she cares for her friends and is always willing to step into the fray to get the job done. Her soul's power is Friendship.
Our Elves Are Different: She's a snow elf, an offshoot of star elfs that live in, well, snowy regions.
The Stoic: Her default expression - half-closed eyes, glazed expression, relative lack of visible emotion - suggest this.
Sweet Tooth: She's always, always, always chewing on a lollipop. It changes colours depending on her mood (which is good, since she rarely shows it herself).
Our Mermaids Are Different: While her race normally seem human (sensing a trend here?), they show their true nature and gain fish tails when they enter the water. They can, of course, breathe perfectly on land and water.
The supreme leader of the Schwarzsol Empire, a powerful organisation that terrorises the cosmos in the name of chaos. Blackmore himself is spoken of as an enigma and a monster, with some even questioning his existence. Rest assured, he is very real. A being born of fear and nightmares, he has spent countless years perfecting his ultimate goal: total universal destruction. Needless to say, he's very powerful, very insane and very evil. His soul's power is Fear.
The Antichrist: While Lucky represents the Messiah, Blackmore is the Nemesis who's destined to bring about the end of all things.
Axe Crazy: Not only does he delight in murdering anyone that he views as something of a challenging opponent, he gleefully admits he has no real reason for wanting to end the universe, other than just to prove he can do it.
Mind Rape: One of his favourite tactics is to bring his opponent's darkest fears to life in their own mind and utterly cripple them with the sheer terror. This is, incidentally, his true form.
Monster Clown: He has elements of this, with his perpetual grin, wicked comedic flair and habit of laughing a lot.
Nice Hat: A black, flat, wide-brimmed hat that hides most of his face.
You Cannot Grasp the True Form: As he is the living embodiment of fear itself, his true form is much too abstract and terrible for a human being to behold without becoming a screaming, convulsing wreck.
Noble Demon: Despite his harsh tone, aggressive manner and villainous allegiance, he always puts Honour Before Reason and protects the heroes from his collapsing base after his defeat.
Redemption Equals Death / Heroic Sacrifice: After being defeated by the heroes, he willingly helps them escape from his crumbling fortress while he stays back and is buried beneath the collapsing walls. Subsequently, he's given a warrior's funeral out of thanks and respect.
Slasher Smile: Nearly always wears a feral grin that shows off his massive fangs.
Social Darwinist: He believes strength matters above all else, and that weaker people deserve to be crushed.
Gonk: Big googly eyes, anglerfish head, underbite, massive upward fangs, webbed hands...he's not the most handsome person around. But to be fair, he is an anthropomorphic deep-sea-dwelling fish.
The Schwarzsol Empire's scientist-for-hire and resident evil genius, Phobos is a treacherous, scheming, under-handed villain with a penchant for creating all manner of ingenious weaponry. He has two other personalities: an angry and reckless psycho named Deimos and a logical and emotionless stoic named Eros. He is responsible for most of the Mekka used by the Empire.
Cyborg: Though only his brain still remains from his human body. This has lead to some mental issues.
Cybernetics Eat Your Soul: Eros is the part of his brain that has lost its emotion due to the cybernetic enhancements.
Dirty Coward: Flees at the slightest sign of danger, can barely fight for himself and isn't above taking hostages.
Disproportionate Retribution: He takes Fey hostage, threatens to kill her and allies himself with an evil empire in order to get back at Fey's father. All because Phobos wasn't as popular as he was.
Red Oni, Blue Oni: Deimos and Eros, with Phobos being something of a "Purple Oni".
Split Personality: Wicked and neurotic (Phobos), spiteful and angry (Deimos), cold and logical (Eros).
Squishy Scientist: He's weak as wet cardboard by himself, but his abilities can be enormously powerful.
The Starscream: He's only helping the Empire for his own selfish agenda and plans to turn on them and considers ousting them once he gets what he wants.
A Mekk created by the Schwarzsol Empire. Obu Chihaha is an enormous snowman/yeti robot that had enslaved the people of Frijj. Large, loud and slow as a sack of bricks, he is nevertheless as excellent guardian for one simple reason: when he hits people, they tend to stay down. If that doesn't work, he's always happy to freeze the offender like a popsicle and stamp them until there's nothing left to freeze.
When All You Have Is a Hammer: His main strategy in battle is based on hitting the offenders with varying degrees of strength. To be fair, he does have other abilities, but they're only used if hitting things doesn't work first.
Randama Fortuna
A Mekk created by the Schwarzsol Empire. Randama Fortuna is a bizarre robot with an enormous wheel on his back, which allows him to predict and alter a person's fate. He is an unusual and unpredictable opponent, using the wheel to select his attacks at random. He is a strong believer in fate and believes that when something happens, it is because it was destined to.
Confusion Fu: His abilities are randomly generated by the wheel and are practically impossible to anticipate, though he believes whatever is selected was fated to be chosen.
Light 'em Up: Her light powers are the powers of dreams and hope, which are also the powers of creation; essentially, a much stronger version of Lucky's powers.
One-Winged Angel: A heroic example. Actually, make that Many Winged Angel.
Soul Jar: The ring that Lucky finds contains her essence and powers.
Nihemezal
The twin brother of Lafina and the God of Night. He believes mortals are a scourge that should be eradicated, and clashed with Lafina over this milleniae ago. He sealed his soul away and is found by Blackmore, who wishes to release him and bring about an endless night. His soul's power is Despair.
Affably Evil: For a world-crushing, nightmare-spawning, despair-laden Cosmic Horror, he's remarkably calm and unscornful...at first. He very quickly subverts this when he goes out-and-out monstrous.
Dark Is Edgy: The darkness he controls is "nightmare energy", the essence of despair and destruction, much like dream energy is of hope and creation.
Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: He's defeated by the heroes, despite being a deific entity of extreme power. Granted, though, they were being helped by another deific entity.
