* ShoutOut: The plortonomics section of their description says that scientists have tried to extract saber slime DNA from their plorts and clone them, but all have failed, which is good because otherwise a charming billionaire would start a theme park full of them. This is a reference to the premise of ''Franchise/JurassicPark''.

* FlowerMotifs: Their main features are large flowers on top of their heads. The pollen they release when agitated (and the reactions other slimes have to it ranging from adorable sneezes to hunters going feral) could be seen as a reference to their [[VisibleOdor terrible scent]].

* TrademarkFavoriteFood: One of the few aversions in the first game game - it eats meat, but its preferred food is listed in the Slimepedia as "unknown", and nothing you put in a Gordo Snare will ever attract a Saber Gordo. Played straight in the second, where their favourite food is the newly-added thundercluck hens.

* UndergroundMonkey: They're basically the complete ''opposite'' of Puddle Slimes, but share the same model and basic function. Fire Slimes need to be kept in a incinerator with an ash trough upgrade, and fed by burning food in it to create ash that they can rapidly [[JustForPun burn through]] if you're keeping more than one. Fire Slimes aren’t shy like Puddle Slimes are, so you can keep more than four Fire Slimes in an incinerator's ash trough and still get plorts from them. Puddle Slimes are kept in ponds and don't need any maintenance at all (prior to Version 1.0.1 they just needed their pond refilled every so often). Fire Slimes only spawn around the Glass Desert, and only during the hazardous Solar Anomalies that set everything on fire, since they can't eat without any sort of ash; while Puddle Slimes only spawn in bodies of fresh water and can't go out for fear of evaporating, but are one of the safest slimes to obtain. It's literally fire and water.
