Main Antagonists
Valentine Morgenstern
Played by Blaze of Awesome Glory ("Where It Begins" thread) & Fanless ("Continuing..." thread)
The Big Bad of Shadowhunter Peril, Valentine is a Nephilim gone bad who brought about the near-destruction of his own race and is now the subsequent ruler of the planet. He remained largely invisible during the first half of the story, but has since begun to take a more active role.
Well-Intentioned Extremist: Unfortunately, his plan to reform the Clave to protect against demonic threats involves raising a massive demon army and slaughtering them all. He eventually succeeds, setting the stage for Shadowhunter Peril.
Lilith is another of the few canon characters to appear in Shadowhunter Peril (the other two being Valentine and Abbadon). She is one of the most powerful demons to ever walk the Earth, and (arguably) the most powerful of them all. She provides Valentine with his demon resources to use as an army, and much of the Resistance hates her.
Tropes that apply to Lilith
Abusive Parents: This goes without saying, really. Lilith had her third son strapped to a stone table and tortured for thousands of years because he stepped out of line. And she smites the unfortunate lesser demons who bring her bad news.
Mama Bear: An odd version of this trope. Lilith, despite being a cold-hearted villain through and through, will mess you up if you screw with one of the Greater Demons, her most favored children. The lesser demons, however, aren't high on her list. Betrayal doesn't allow you to these luxuries, though. See Umbra and Ignis.
Mook Maker: ALL demons are born from her blood. This makes her dangerous in a fight—the more you wound her, the more demons automatically are born to come to her aid.
Offing the Offspring: She has issues with her children who have abandoned the demon cause. To her, this is unforgivable and an embarassment, so she attempts to kill Umbra and Ignis many times.
Omnicidal Maniac: Being a demon, it's practically expected of her to have this trope.
Possibly one of the most powerful characters on the RPG (no one's ever really sure who is the strongest), Oblivion is an Ushubaen, a human who was experimented on by the demon Chaos and infused with enough demonic energy to give him superpowers, while still allowing him to retain a soul (in Shadowhunter Peril, if you have a soul, you have the potential to be much more powerful than a being who doesn't have a soul).
Tropes that apply to Oblivion:
Chaotic Evil: He really didn't care what happened to anyone else as long as he was in a position to blow stuff up in the most harmful way possible. He even actually joined the resistance, before betraying and trying to kill them because he was sick of waiting for a battle to happen.
Hero Killer: And HOW. By the end of the final battle and his subsequent death, he's responsible for the deaths of Ra and Nuriel. He also nearly kills the Architect by dropping a good-size portion of a building on him. He once nearly killed Ethan and Puriel with dark energy. His golems are also responsible for causing several deaths in the battle, and he singlehandedly killed a significant amount of phoenixes and downworlders in the final battle. His body count is the highest of all villains.
Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: His backstory is never explicitly given other than a few snippets, but considering the fact that he's crazy evil and states that his parents and brother are dead, he was hinted to be this.
It's then completely subverted when it's revealed that he doesn't have a family, and Ushubaen are just sprung up into the adult form they appear in. He lied about his past to get people to feel sorry for them, then kill them.
Protagonists
Bezaliel
Played by Fanless
Bezaliel holds the dubious honor of being possibly the most psychologically traumatized as well asthe most physically attractive.
The Empath: His defining characteristic: before descending to Earth, he was the Angel of Empathy. Bezaliel is unusual in being a male example of this trope.
I Am Legion: The more Bezaliel spins out, the weaker his hold on his identity gets:
Go away, we didn't do anything—
and if he's really in the middle of a breakdown, will stop using pronouns entirely:
—don't know you, don't know anything—
Nervous Wreck: Let's put it this way: it's unusual to see him not twitching like a squirrel on speed.
Shell-Shocked Veteran: Only survivor of completely unnecessary fallen-angel genocide.
Veronica Marie Carter
Played by The Doomsday Architect
Veronica is probably the zaniest member of the Resistance—she is a warlock, and therefore has near-limitless potential for magical power, but chooses not to use it for as-yet-unexplained reasons. It has been confirmed she is clinically insane, but what kind of mental disorder she has remains to be seen.
Tropes that apply to Veronica
Action Girl: Despite her uncontrollable nature, Veronica can actually kick some ass when she manages to focus on something for more than three seconds. See BFS.
Ax Crazy: Often combined with Genki Girl. Veronica can be very, very homicidal if she gets ticked off.
Combat Tentacles: Her homemade pies sprout these. If you manage to kill the thing that lives inside them, they are actually quite tasty.
Cute and Psycho: This is probably the first thing that people are aware of about her when they first meet her.
Girl with Psycho Weapon: She's often pulled a bazooka on her allies for absolutely no reason. Either the bazooka or her demonic pies.
Genki Girl: She's often tired out other people just by being near them. Often combined with Ax Crazy for disturbing, hilarious events.
Mama Bear: One of the few moments where Veronica got scary rather than crazy. When Ethan was poisoned twice in succession by the incompetence of other members of the Resistance, Veronica lost it, threatening to cut out every single one of Dave's organs while still keeping him alive, and then finally slicing him into pieces. She even scared Puriel.
Ship Tease: With Bezaliel. There was also a pretty blatant one between her and Etzel when he walked in on her naked and she acted like nothing was wrong. For that matter, neither did Etzel.
Trigger Happy: Stalling a fight with Veronica may keep you alive longer, but it also manages to piss her off more, and she'll more than likely try to shoot you. If you survive an encounter with her but are now marked as an Arch-Enemy in her book, and you happen to meet her again, expect to be greeted by a Click Hello.
Etzel von Gerhart
Played by Fanless
Flirty, cunning, and quick-witted, Etzel is a vampire who owns a lavish underground mansion in the sewers of New York City. This is somewhat ironic, considering Etzel's perfectionist personality and distaste for anything dirty or less than fashionable.
Anything That Moves: Etzel's previous encounters largely remain unknown, but it's been made apparent that he has certainly gotten around. He tried, several times, to drop not-so-subtle hints to Nicholas MUCH to Umbra's annoyance. As of late he's been unable to do anything of the sort, though, thanks to Kyle.
Chaotic Neutral: If it weren't for his flamboyant personality, Etzel would be a True Neutral. He really only fights with the Resistance because they happen to be using his home as a base.
Crazy-Prepared: During a battle on the streets above, Etzel dragged Dieter to a room where he proceeded to press a bunch of buttons and detonate dozens of mines he had embedded in the street. The results weren't pretty.
Lovable Sex Maniac: Etzel is easily the most promiscuous of the Resistance, and while the rest of the characters take it in stride, the creators of Shadowhunter Peril find it hilarious.
Mood Whiplash: With the facility to jump from jokey to wistful to furious to... welll, you name it, Etzel is the most changeable of the Resistance next to Veronica, making him serviceable Comic Relief.
Really 700 Years Old: Etzel is much older than any normal human would be able to live for, thanks to being a vampire. Yet he appears to be in his twenties.
Nicholas, who prefers to be called by his Etzel-bestowed human name, is the sweetest, most stereotypically angelic angel in the cast.
Tropes that apply to Nicholas
Bishōnen Not as pretty as his daddy, but still classically androgynous. And technically more of a biseinen, since at physically early twenties he's a little older than the bishounen cutoff point.
Comically Missing the Point: Nicholas is past master at doing this (unintentionally, of course), especially when it comes to anything involving sex.
"Hell Yes" Moment: Not long after his introduction, Nicholas takes out a horde of demons with a dragon-shaped blast of superheated wind and debris. After insisting he's no good at fighting.
Field Marshal of Heaven's army, Puriel is likely the eldest of all the angels who have yet appeared in Shadowhunter Peril. This isn't immediately apparent, however, because he's the heavenly equivalent of Ciel Phantomhive.
The first of two demons to not be completely Ax Crazy, Umbra is the Greater Demon of Energy, and the third demon to be born into existence. Until the arrival of the angels, Umbra was the most tactically knowledgeable of the Resistance and would often play peacemaker. Since the angels arrived, however, he's taken more of a backseat role, although he can still kick some ass.
Tropes that apply to Umbra:
Accidental Innuendo: With Nicholas. Umbra was trying to teach him how to fight in hand-to-hand combat. Nicholas displays much more prowess then Umbra had anticipated and throws him into a wall and falls to the ground moaning in pain. Nicholas starts frettting over him and starts repeating the words "Oh" and "Umbra". Cue Bezaliel and Veronica, who are standing on the other side of the wall. All they hear is sex. Bezaliel then moans about how his son is going to hell. Could be considered a Crowning Moment of Funny, though Your Mileage May Vary on that.
Power Gives You Wings: After Nuriel gives him to drink of the angelic Holy Relic called the Soul Chalice, which transforms him into an Ascended Demon, Umbra sprouts four black-feathered wings.
The only human to appear on the RPG, the Architect is a nomad from out west who ran into the Resistance and took up residence in their base. He is the newest character to be introduced.
Tropes that apply to the Architect
Action Survivor: After the Apocalypse, he fights his way across the country with only two sidearms and a motorcycle, in a land populated by inhumanly strong demons. He has apparently killed a pack of rogue werewolves who were trying to eat him, with a pistol.
A Principality angel who is just a shade younger than Puriel, although you wouldn't be able to tell it by watching the two of them interact with each other.
Kyle Vivoka is the only phoenix-human hybrid in existence, and he is the adopted son of the Phoenix King Ra. He is next in line for the throne, should Ra die, but Kyle isn't ready for that responsibility. He's a joking, sarcastic 15-year-old who displays an insane amount of carelessness for his body, due to his regeneration.
