The characters who end up with the elements fused to their souls. They serve as the heroes of the story (kinda), and all of them have issues.

They all provide examples of:

• Anti-Hero: In varying degrees.
• Badass Bookworm: More or less everyone except Canton, but only because he's a Genius Bruiser.
• Elemental Powers:
  • Allister has the element wood, which "manifests" itself in the form of paper manipulation.
  • Benny has metal, but seems to be limited to only controlling copper and iron.
  • Canton has earth, manifesting in both geokinesis (manipulating stone/dirt/earth materials) but also in his Super Strength.
  • David initially has ice, but his element is actually fire manifested in the ability to manipulate temperature.
  • Eric has water, which manifests in a more oceanic form than traditional ways.

Kathrine "Al" Allister

The leader of the team and the first to become the possessor of an element. After being mysteriously sent to an "Alter-Verse", she gets the element wood fused to her soul and now everyone wants her. Well, her element, anyway.Kathrine is probably the most level-headed of the group, and is often described as a "nerd", by everyone...especially Kathrine.

• Action Girl
• Animal Motifs: Rabbits; cute, good-natured, and often the Only Sane Man. There's also a subtle Alice Allusion and the fact that she's a Kick Chick.
• Badass Adorable
• Badass Bookworm: Glasses and all.
• Brain to Benny's Brawn: Played with, since while both happen to be very smart, Benny's Genius Ditz tendencies kind of get in the way of having the "brainy" role.
• Brainy Brunette
• Brown Eyes
• Cloud Cuckoolanders Minder: to Benny.
• Only Sane Man

Julie Anne "Benny" Bennington

The second person to possess an element, and Kathrine Allister's long-time friend. Since Ben is is based on me, she's typically weird, sarcastic, and a total idiot when it comes to dealing with people. The latter due to having mild autism. Hers is the element of metal, which she fought to keep from ripping apart her soul and even then, it manifested in a very limited form.

• Dandere: This trope incarnate. Around her friends, she's a boisterous Genki Girl who can be a bit socially inept, but when confronted with someone she isn't familiar with, she becomes a painfully shy Shrinking Violet who can barely muster a conversation. Mostly thanks to her autism, but still plays the trope startlingly straight (if not outright amping it Up to Eleven).
• Fiery Redhead
• Hazel Eyes
• The Lancer: Well, not according to her anyway.

Canton "Can/Canny/Tin/Tintin/Canny Man" Green

A tall, quiet, and fairly decent guy at the same school as the first two girls, Canton winds up sucked into the crap of the others shortly after becoming their study buddy. Being horrible at math, he was held back a year, and for this he is generally regarded as being an idiot, by everyone including Benny. However, if it isn't numbers, he's actually a pretty bright guy. Later on, he gains the element earth, and befriends Al and Ben.

• The Big Guy
• Brown Eyes[/]Black Eyes: His are something between the two.
• Dumb Blonde: Subverted, since other than math, he's actually pretty bright. I'd argue though that it's played with sometimes, as occasionally he's a bit of a ditz compared to the other girls.

Maccabee

Nori

Not completely sure what she is yet, but Nori is DEAF...very deaf. However, she is also Ophelia's Heterosexual Life Partner and closest friend, due to the fact that she's the only person who can't be affected by Ophelia's screaming.

• Blind and the Beast: Well, more like Deaf and the Beast, but it still counts, right?
• Boobs of Steel: Played with; she's actually not as powerful as Ophelia (who is bustier than her), but she is the physically stronger of the two.
• Disability Immunity: Nori can't hear, so a screaming banshee has virtually no effect on her. This and the fact that Nori finds Ophelia's Nightmare Face "cool" makes her an ideal partner.
• No Indoor Voice: Having no hearing, Nori can't really "gauge" her noise level and usually fluctuates between this trope and a barely-audible whisper. If it's the former, Ophelia typically signals her to "tone it down".
• Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red to Ophelia's Blue.
• Tomboy and Girly Girl: Tomboy to Ophelia's Girly Girl.

Ophelia

A banshee originally from "our" world, who is incapable of speech other than screaming.

• Girly Girl to Nori's Tomboy
• Handicapped Badass: If you count her being incapable of speech as a handicap.
• Our Banshees Are Louder: A different take on this trope, as in her case, she has a Glasgow Grin and can only utter a Death Wail...otherwise, she's The Speechless.
• The Speechless: Due to that whole "if she opens her mouth all that comes out is a scream" thing, she literally can't talk. She communicates through signs, writing, and eventually, a PDA that Allister gives her.
• Talking With Signs: via the PDA. Sometimes though, it doesn't work, and when all she has is her scream...
• Woman in White: her raggidy white dress was actually her wedding dress
