* BlowYouAway: Shiftry's leaf fans can flap with enough force to blow down a house. Appropriately, it can learn Whirlwind, RazorWind, and Hurricane. It also has Wind Rider as its ability starting in Gen IX, negating wind-based moves entirely and instead raising Shiftry attack.

* RecurringElement: Nosepass is very much like Onix in its debut generation, being a Rock-type with no evolutionary relatives with low overall stats but high Defense in order to serve as the SignatureMon of the first Gym Leader and in turn the first boss fight, being a defensive early game powerhouse designed to teach the player about type matchups. Like Onix, Nosepass has stats designed to make it a threat when the player first battles it, but it stops being useful or threatening once the player gets access to stronger and evolved Pokémon, and also serves as an uncommon spawn in caves later in the game. Also in a similar vein to Onix, Nosepass gained a part Steel-type evolved form in the subsequent generation after its debut once it outlived its original purpose so that such evolved form would allow it to become more usable.

* CuteButCacophonic: Whismur, whose screaming can get as loud as (or louder than) a jet plane. There's even a DummiedOut ability in their debut generation called Cacophony that is presumed to have belonged to this line.Said ability has a description identical to Soundproof, but most other Soundproof Pokémon are either Animate Inanimate Objects with no discernible ears or are based off of mimes, while this line is presumably immune to sound-based moves because they drown them out. The only other Pokémon with a similar justification for the Soundproof ability, and thus the only other line that likely would've received Cacophony instead (had it continued to exist), is the Jangmo'o line, which didn't debut until Generation VII.

Water/Grass-type Pokémon that inhabit the freshwater areas of Routes 102 and 114. They have an affinity for rain and bear lily pads on their heads, which they use to ferry small Pokémon across small bodies of water and to catch rainwater to restore HP. Lombre are mischievous and love messing with anglers at night. When Ludicolo hears music, it becomes filled with power and dances like there's no tomorrow. Its typing cancels out many of its weaknesses and also gives it a highly useful double resistance to Water. It's exclusive to Sapphire.

* BlessedWithSuck: The line's Ability of Normalize allows it to get a STAB bonus on every move it uses and use certain attacks on Pokémon that they usually wouldn't work on (notably, Thunder Wave on Ground-types). However, it also means that it can't get a Super Effective hit on anything outside of a specific type of battle that has yet to be implemented as a multiplayer option and shows up in one specific area in each Gen VI game, it's lousy against Rock- and Steel-types, and it's utterly useless against Ghosts (except if it uses Foresight). It has been buffed to provide a 20% boost to all affected attacks as of Gen VII, though Delcatty's low offenses still means it too useful.
