Peep
Voiced by: Scott Beaudin (seasons 1-3), Shawn Molko (season 4), Maxwell Uretsky (season 5)
A very curious, sweet and cute chick.- Armless Biped: He isn't drawn with wings.
- Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Justified since he's a baby.
- Children Are Innocent: He's the youngest and most naive of the cast.
- Cheerful Child: There's not a lot that can get him down.
- Cloudcuckoo Lander: He can be spacey. Nowhere near the level of Quack and/or Beaver Boy, though.
- The Cutie: He's a cute chick.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: He's a yellow chick and one of the nicest and friendliest characters.
- Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Both are equally adventurous, but vocally, he is the feminine boy to Chirp's masculine girl. This is averted in the final (known) season.
- Nice Guy: Good natured, loyal, thoughtful, polite and friendly, and always trying to keep the peace between Chirp and Quack.
- No Object Permanence:Peep: Where's your other leg?Quack: (Annoyed) Behind me!
- Ridiculously Cute Critter: He's been called the cutest little bird since Tweety.
Chirp
Voiced by: Amanda Soha
A rather smart and witty bird. Although naive, she's a lot smarter than Quack or Peep.- Berserk Button: She really doesn't appreciate anyone being a jerk to her or Peep, and is always ready to stand up to them.
- Beware the Nice Ones: You don't want to get on her bad side.
- Butt-Monkey: Chirp keeps on falling, getting dropped on and getting wet, partly from her attempts at flying or her friends' antics.
- Deadpan Snarker: She has some of the best one-liners of the series.
- The Determinator: She will always keep trying to fly.
- Gender Flip: She was originally a boy.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: To rude people like Quack.
- Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: The masculine girl to Peep's feminine boy.
- Nice Girl: Sweet, kind, always looking out for her naive and idiotic friends.
- Non-Standard Character Design: The only one of the bird trio to not be an Armless Biped.
- Only Sane Man: Everyone else in the forest is either weird, stupid, or cowardly.
- The Smart Girl: She usually has a better handle on things than the spacey Quack or the naive Peep.
- Tomboyish Voice: Sort of. She has a rather deep voice for her supposed age in the first three seasons. Averted in the final season, supposedly due to her actress aging.
- Tuft of Head Fur: She has a few strands of hair.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She does not sit well with water and wetness.
- Women Are Wiser: She's a lot smarter and more down-to-earth than her male friends.
Quack
Voiced by: Jamie Watson
A very arrogant duck who looks more like an eggplant with a beak and thinks ducks are the best animals in the world. He is the oldest (and least intelligent) of the birds.- Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: An indigo duck.
- Armless Biped: Like Peep, he has no wings and uses his feet almost as if they were Feather Fingers.
- Attention Whore: At one point he throws a party just because he wants attention.
- Blatant Lies: In the episode when he tells Chirp and Peep a story, he said the ducks in his family were many colors, and that ducks are considered sacred. It's pretty obvious he was fibbing about the second part.
- Cloudcuckoo Lander: Likely as a side-effect of his duck-centered worldview.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He can be a little self-centered at times but he does care about his friends.
- Jerkass Has a Point: While ducks aren't the greatest animals in the universe as he would everyone to think, but his ability to swim leaves him capable of things the other birds aren't, such as going to Green Island and talking to the fish.
- Know-Nothing Know-It-All: He always claims to know a lot, but he is almost always wrong.
- Large Ham: Quack is quite the ham.
- Penguins Are Ducks: Inverted, as he is a duck who is stylized to look more like a penguin.
- Semiaquatic Species Sailor: A duck with a sailor hat.
- Small Name, Big Ego: He has a huge opinion of himself and ducks in general.
- Too Dumb to Live: He is somewhat less intelligent than the rest of the birds and this tends to lead to some misadventures.
- Vague Age: He's voiced by an adult, unlike his friends, but he displays the same level of childlike naiveté. It's generally assumed that he's older than Peep and Chirp, but still a "kid" by bird standards.
- Verbal Tic: Adding a "quack" to the end of his sentences sometimes.
Beaver Boy
Voiced by: Tessa Marshall
A good friend to the birds whose also slow-witted but means well.- The Ditz: Even by this show's standards. The narrator lampshades this in one episode.
- Extreme Omnivore: He likes to eat sticks.
- Fat Idiot: Size-wise, when he's with the main trio, he's the fat one and he's not really bright, being more naive than Peep is.
- Furry Reminder: He's usually chewing on trees or anything wooden, which is probably because his teeth won't stop growing.
- Kindhearted Simpleton: Not the brightest, but is well-meaning, even more so than Quack.
- The Nicknamer: He refers to Quack as a "blue sailor", and does the same for Chirp ("red round") and Peep ("yellow guy").
- Trademark Favorite Food: Sticks. Justified since he's beaver
Newton
Voiced by: Colin Fox
A turtle living under a crab apple tree.- Early-Installment Weirdness: His short film equivalent was French and went by the name of "Pierre". He was also less slow and spacey and more of an agoraphobe.
- Heavy Sleeper: He spends a lot of his time sleeping. It's actually easier to count how many times he was awake.
- Nice Guy: He's friendly, if a bit slow.
- Punny Name: He's named after Isaac Newton and lives under a crab apple tree that constantly drops apples on his shell.
- Sturdy and Steady Turtles: He's a turtle (or tortoise, rather), so he's slow.
Tom
Voiced by: Alex Hood
A naughty, manipulative cat who wants to eat the birds.- Big Bad: The closest thing to one in the series, anyway. Whenever he shows up, you know he'll be causing all of the trouble for the birds in that episode.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: See Manipulative Bastard.
- Cats Are Mean: Manipulative, troublemaking, wants to eat the birds, etc.
- Cute Is Evil: Downplayed on the evil part, but is more than willing to cause problems for those he does not like.
- Cute Kitten: But don't be fooled.
- Enfant Terrible: Not evil per se, but is a troublemaker.
- Faux Affably Evil: Pretends to be nice to Peep only to trick him into thinking he likes birds.
- Manipulative Bastard: Tricked Peep into thinking he likes birds, but he only did that to lure them into a false sense of security and eat them.
- Metaphorically True: He does like birds... He likes them for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Nelly
Voiced by: Marium Carvell
A big, kindhearted dog who often helps the birds out.- Big Friendly Dog: Big compared to the birds, and very friendly.
- Dogs Are Dumb: Inverted; she's one of the smartest characters in the show.
- Early Installment Character-Design Difference: Her design changed the most from the original short film; she was considerably shaggier and had a raspy, southern accent (she called herself "Nelly the Country Dog"). In the actual series, she looks more like a golden retriever and has a softer, smoother voice.
- Heavy Sleeper: When she does appear, she's usually napping, however, she doesn't sleep as much as Newton does.
- Team Mom: Acts fairly motherly to the three birds.
Hoot
Voiced by: Corinne Conley
A female owl who lives in the woods.- Dark Is Not Evil: She might look menacing, but has a good heart.
- The Owl-Knowing One
Splendid Bird from Paradise
A bird that was shipped from tropical place and sold a parrot before she escaped
- Artistic License – Animal Care: According to her origin story flashback, she was captured and sold as a pet, which doesn't happen (in modern times anyway), as birds kept as pets are captive-born and, as a pet, she was kept in a rather small cage without toys, which is a big no-no, as parrots (or parakeets) do best in big cages and need things to do because they'll pluck their feathers otherwise. Also, pet birds tend to have their wings clipped, so they won't fly off.
- Gratuitous Spanish: Adds Spanish to her sentences.
- Overly Long Name: She wanted to be called "Splendid Bird from Paradise" but this gets shortened to "Splendid Bird"
- Where the Hell Is Springfield?: Where she came from, though, since she speaks Spanish, we can guess she was caught and shipped from Central or South America (the show is implied to take place in North America)
