* DumbJock: Very little common sense. He's at his worst in "Derision" where he's senseless enough to be fooled by Chloé into thinking that if a girl has feelings for you and wants to out swimming with you but doesn't ''actually'' want to swim means she wants to laugh, and you should play a prank on her.

->''"Chillax, lady. If there's anyone on this earth who knows about your legendary clumsiness, it's me, your BFF!"''

Alya is Marinette's best friend - and Ladybug's biggest fan - but doesn't realize they're the same person. Alya is confident, cool, and a little bit sassy, never afraid to speak her mind, and always keeping an eye on Parisian trends and news. She dreams of being a professional news reporter, but until that day, she's practicing by running the ''[[CurrentEventsBlog Ladyblog]]'', tracking Ladybug and Cat Noir's every accomplishment.

She temporarily becomes a fox themed hero named Rena Rouge in the episode "Sapotis"; she takes up that role once again at the beginning of "Syren" and during the "Heroes' Day" two-parter.

As of "Optigami" she is now a permanent holder of the Fox Miraculous. She also becomes Marinette's presumptive successor for the ownership of the Miracle Box.

In "Hack-San", Alya receives the Ladybug Miraculous from Marinette when the latter needs to temporarily leave Paris with her parents to celebrate her aunt's birthday. When Robostus, together with the titular sentimonster, starts wreaking havoc, she uses the Miraculous, when inhabited by Tikki, to turn into Scarabella, a ladybug-themed superhero.

As of "Rocketear", after putting herself in a position where her hero persona could no longer be seen in public and where she could only assist her allies from the shadows, her costume changes and she decides that she is now known as Rena Furtive, an arctic fox-themed superhero.

In "Strikeback", after having failed to protect her cover as Rena Furtive from Monarch, she gives back her Miraculous to Ladybug, which just results in her Miraculous getting stolen by Félix and Gabriel just like all the other ones from the Miracle Box.

In "Transmission", Tikki chooses her as the next permanent holder of the Ladybug Miraculous so Marinette can live freely her love story with Adrien, but her identity as Scarabella ends up getting exposed to Monarch through her Alliance Ring, which leads to her defeat in "Deflagration". But she still becomes Sarabella on occassion as seen in "Revelation".

"Anansi".

* AmbiguouslyBrown: In the show proper. She has dark skin, and the Egyptian Pharaoh says she resembles his dead wife. According to the creator, her family is from Martinique.
* AnimalMotifs:
** Foxes. Her color is orange (a color associated with red foxes), she is the ideal wielder of the Fox Miraculous and [[AnimalStereotypes she embodies a lot of the more positive aspects associated with foxes]]; [[GuileHero clever, resourceful, intuitive with the mystical aspects of the miraculous and good at playing tricks for positive results]].
** Beetles as Scarabella, specifically ladybugs and scarabs. Scarabs are symbolic of creation and ladybugs of both regeneration and good luck, fitting with both the creation-based abilities of the Ladybug Miraculous and Alya's creative streak.
* AreWeGettingThis: She is the living embodiment of this trope. Since she's running an amateur news blog, Alya is reporter and camerawoman at the same time, so she [[ImpliedTrope doesn't spell the trope out]] but has a knee-jerk reaction of go recording Akuma attacks. It's often at the cost of personal safety, even if she learns to be less reckless with time. In [[Recap/MiraculousLadybugS01E07ThePharaoh "The Pharaoh"]], she approaches the MonsterOfTheWeek to interview him for her viewer's sake. She's also very willing to continue her livestream and excitedly comments on the facts even as she's being kidnapped by the Akuma to be sacrificed.
* ArentYouGoingToRavishMe: She's a little offended when the Pharaoh swaps her out with Ladybug as a sacrifice.
* AscendedFangirl:
** She's a big fan of superhero comics so naturally she jumped at the chance to be able to record Ladybug and Cat Noir in action. [[spoiler: In fact, Marinette, believing herself unworthy of Ladybug's power, almost gave her Miraculous to Alya before deciding to keep it.]]
** In "Sapotis", Ladybug chooses her to temporarily wield the Fox Miraculous, allowing her to transform into the superheroine Rena Rouge. She's absolutely delighted the entire time.
** [[spoiler: After Marinette revealed her identity as Ladybug to her in "Gang of Secrets", she becomes more involved in helping Ladybug and Cat Noir take down akumas. In "Optigami", Marinette makes the decision to let Alya keep the Fox Miraculous permanently, making her the official third member of the team.]]
** [[spoiler: In "Hack-San", Marinette entrusts the Ladybug Miraculous to her while she's out of town, meaning Alya actually gains the same powers as her favorite heroine as "Scarabella".]]
* AstonishinglyAppropriateAppearance: Her dark brown/vermilion hair is certainly appropriate for someone who gets to wield the Fox Miraculous.
* BattleCouple: With Nino/Carapace during the "Heroes' Day" two-parter.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: When she becomes Marinette's SecretKeeper by the end of "Gang of Secrets", she becomes a more active participant in Ladybug's fight against Hawk Moth and be a full-time superhero like she always wanted. As the series goes on however, there have been moments where [[BeingGoodSucks she starts experiencing the kind of stress inherent to the job]], including the effect keeping secrets has on her personal life and being forced to respond to the call at inconvenient times.
* BespectacledCutie: A sweet bespectacled girl with a strong sense of justice. One good example comes from her earning Marinette's friendship in "Ladybug and Cat Noir" by standing up to Chloé when Chloé is bullying Marinette.
* BestFriend: To Marinette. She's more confident and outspoken than Marinette is, but they're as close as sisters.
* BirdsOfAFeather: She and Nino become a couple after finding out they have a lot in common.
* CameraFiend: Loves taking photos, both of her daily life and of Ladybug's superheroics.
* CasualDangerDialogue: Held hostage during Bubbler's mandatory birthday party? About to be sacrificed by a supervillain in exchange for his love? No problem, she knows Ladybug and Cat Noir will rescue her.
* ColorCharacter: Her superhero name is Rena Rouge, roughly translating to "Red Fox", though her Miraculous is primarily associated with orange.
* CoolBigSis: She has several little siblings, so she is good at handling children. She also behaves like one towards Manon when Stormy Weather traps them both in an ice prison.
* CunningLikeAFox: She's a fox themed superhero who can fool enemies with her powers of illusion (the best example of this being her tricking Shadow Moth into believing that she was "retired" as a superhero in "Sentibubbler").
* DamselInDistress: She's often captured by the villains and needs to be saved.
* {{Facepalm}}: Marinette's made her do this more than once.
* FailedASpotCheck: Never once realizes that Marinette is missing when Ladybug is running about. To be fair, that's probably not the first conclusion most people would come to. One particularly JustForFun/{{Egregious}} example occurs in the "Origins" two-parter, where Marinette literally transforms in the middle of the street, practically in front of Alya, and somehow she still misses it. Though to be fair, Alya was pinned to the wall by a car at the time; she probably had other things on the mind.
* FamilyThemeNaming: The names of her and her family are related to jazz singers.
* {{Fangirl}}: Of Ladybug and Cat Noir. She runs a fanblog about their adventures, and never misses any events related to them. She was a fangirl of superheroes in general even before Ladybug and Cat Noir appeared. [[spoiler:After learning Ladybug is actually her clumsy and spastic best friend, the fangirl part seems to have stopped. She still thinks she's great and amazing but since she's no longer a larger than life figure, now Alya treats her with the same loving but amused exasperation even if Marinette is in costume.]]
* FieryRedhead: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. Alya has brown hair with some bright vermilion highlights, and while she is determined and spunky, she's usually level-headed.
* FoxyVixen: While she's much less flirtatious and outgoing than most examples, her costume design clearly emphasizes this archetype.
* GenkiGirl: She's quite an energetic girl, particularly when she got the Fox Miraculous for the first time.
* GenreSavvy: Familiar with a lot of superhero tropes because of all the comics she reads; however she never realizes that Ladybug's secret identity could be her own best friend. In "Sapotis", she correctly guesses that the heroes' powers come from the kwamis upon meeting Trixx.
* GuestStarPartyMember: While she isn't at the point where she needs to have a Miraculous full-time [[spoiler:until Season 4]], Ladybug occasionally drafts her aid as Rena Rouge to deal with particularly troublesome situations.
* HeroicSacrifice: In "Mayura", [[spoiler:she throws herself in the path of one of Dark Cupid's arrows, which was meant for Carapace]].
* HeroicWillpower: In "Gang of Secrets", Alya becomes the second person on the show to successfully resist Akumatization and is the first one to do so after being fully akumatized.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: She and Marinette are as close as sisters, and tell each other practically everything.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Even after learning Ladybug's identity and Marinette entrusting her with all her secrets, she still doesn't believe her about Lila being a ConsummateLiar and a {{Jerkass}}, still thinking that Marinette must be wrong about her.
* IntrepidReporter: There's a villain tearing up Paris? Gotta get footage of Ladybug and Cat Noir kicking butt for her blog! She also attempted to uncover Ladybug's identity before learning the importance of secret identities once she became a hero herself.
* JustEatGilligan: Actually considers handing Chloé to Zombizou in the titular episode
* LeeroyJenkins: Her desire for a hot scoop sometimes trumps common sense, as seen in the OriginsEpisode.
* LeParkour: In "Miraculer" she is shown having a rather acrobatic parkour race across a bridge with her boyfriend Nino. As civilians. ''While carrying ice cream.''
* MagicalFlutist: Her weapon as a superhero is a flute that allows her to create illusions.
* MasterOfIllusion: Her Mirage ability lets her create powerful illusions. However she can only use this once before her Miraculous starts counting down to the end of the transformation.
* TheMatchmaker: To Marinette, only, but Alya can come with her own pack of schemes to be sure Marinette confess to Adrien, or at least have more time with him.
* MeaningfulName: In Slavonic, "Alya" means "beautiful" or "scarlet," references to her good looks and red-brown hair, respectively. Fittingly, her superhero name basically translates to 'Red Fox'.
* MeaningfulRename: [[spoiler: Since she can no longer be seen as Rena Rouge after the events of "Sentibubbler", Alya takes not only a new outfit, but changes her name to Rena Furtive, "Stealthy Fox."]]
* MsFanservice: Provides a fair amount as Rena Rouge with her curvaceous figure and ''very'' form-fitting bodysuit.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Her last name comes from the French poet, writer and politician [[https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aim%C3%A9_C%C3%A9saire Aimé Césaire]], theorician of ''[[https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%A9gritude?searchToken=76p5u85lykane2b39e1a79wwx négritude]]''. Fitting, given, like her family, he was from Martinique.
* NewTransferStudent: The OriginsEpisode reveals that she transferred in at the start of the school year, around the same time Adrien started going to public school.
* NiceGirl: She is extremely loyal, supportive, and helpful, like going out of her way to encourage and (sometimes literally) push Marinette into spending time with Adrien.
* PowerMakesYourHairGrow: As Rena Rouge, her hair gets visibly longer and puffier.
* RelationshipUpgrade: Enters into a relationship with Nino in "Animan" after being [[LockedInARoom locked in a]] [[ItMakesSenseInContext cage together]]. She initially thought of him as a brother, but they found out that they had a lot in common.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: [[spoiler: After Rocketear is de-evilized, Ladybug tells her to lie to Nino in order to ensure her secret identity won't be compromised. Instead, Alya tells him almost everything, while reassuring him that she loves him.]]
* SecondLove: To Nino, who originally had a huge crush on Marinette.
* SecondSuperIdentity:
** Narrowly subverted in "Style Queen"; Marinette was intending to loan her the Bee Miraculous, but Alya gets petrified before she can go through with it.
** Played straight, though, in "Hack-San", [[spoiler: where she gets to use the Ladybug Miraculous to become Scarabella, with a second appearance in the "Kwami's Choice" two-parter and a third one in "Revelation"]].
** Also played straight as of "Rocketear" as she is [[spoiler: forced to retire Rena Rouge and adopts a new costume and name as Rena Furtive to ensure that Shadow Moth doesn't know she is still helping Ladybug. However, her new secret identity gets exposed to Shadow Moth in "Strikeback", making her give back the Fox Miraculous to Ladybug, as she considers that it's too dangerous to keep wearing it (however, it ends up getting stolen by anyway later on with all the other Miraculous from the Miracle Box.]]
* SecretChaser: There have been two episodes ("The Pharaoh" and "Lady Wifi") where she tries to figure out Ladybug's identity and has shown a desire to find out Cat Noir's identity as well.
* SecretKeeper: Shortly into the fourth season, [[spoiler:Marinette, desperate for someone in her personal life to confide her secrets to, tells her she's Ladybug.]]
* SecretSecretKeeper: She figures out Nino is Carapace almost immediately [[SomethingOnlyTheyWouldSay thanks to his use of the word "dude"]]. Upgraded to SecretKeeper as of "Catalyst", when Ladybug gives both of them their Miraculouses at the same time.
-->'''Nino:''' Aren't you at least a bit surprised that I'm Carapace?\\
'''Rena Rouge:''' ''[patronizing tone]'' My sweet, clueless boy. Just transform.
* ShipperOnDeck:
** For Marinette/Adrien. She's constantly pushing Marinette to interact with him. She even does it in the intro sequence. Deconstructed in Season 5 where she still tries to push Marinette to be with Adrien even when she decides to stop pursuing him after the events of "The Last Attack of Shadow Moth" and even disregarding her new attraction to Cat Noir in favor of Adrien. It takes Marinette giving her a [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech chewing out]] over it and seeing an akumatized André attacking her and Cat Noir for the same reason for her to realize the damage of her pushiness and finally back off.
** "Prime Queen" shows she ships Ladybug and Cat Noir, as her statement about the two is that they're not officially dating...yet.
* SixthRanger: [[spoiler: After Marinette reveals her secret to her in "Gang of Secrets", Alya becomes an unofficial third member of her and Cat Noir's team, while also helping Marinette in deciphering the Grimoire. As of "Optigami", Marinette decides to allow her to keep the Fox Miraculous and a copy of the Grimoire's information, making her the first and thus far only member of the group beyond the main duo to have full possession of their Miraculous and the official third member of their team.]]
* SuperPowersForADay: In "Sapotis", Ladybug lends Alya the Fox Miraculous, which turns her into the superheroine Rena Rouge. She has to give it back at the end of the episode, though. [[spoiler:After 2 seasons of temporarily helping Ladybug from time to time, she gets to keep the Fox Miraculous permanently halfway through the fourth season.]]
* {{Tritagonist}}: The events of Season 4 promote her to the tertiary main character. [[spoiler:She is the first one to discover Ladybug's true identity, helps her out in her civilian forms, and eventually becomes the first temporary Miraculous holder to be granted permission to keep her Miraculous on a permanent basis.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: To Ladybug/Marinette, especially in "Sentibubbler".
* UnwittingMuggleFriend: She has no idea that Marinette and her admired Ladybug are the same person. That said, she does at one point consider that Adrien could be Cat Noir, but Marinette brushes it off. In "Gang of Secrets", [[spoiler: she learns Ladybug's true identity.]]
* VerbalTic: She often says "girl" when speaking with Marinette. The future version of Marinette seems to have adopted this quirk.
* TheWorldIsJustAwesome: Her first minutes as Rena are pure, unadulterated ''joy'' as she leaps across rooftops and takes in Paris' night landscape.

tech wizard. He is good friends with Kim.

In "Desperada", the episode "Startrain", when Adrien failed to use he helps the Snake heroes defeat his mom, Ladybug gives him the Horse Miraculous properly, Luka is chosen to become survive the new/primary Snake hero, Viperion, who harsh conditions, and he ultimately becomes the hero Pegasus. He returns to help this form in "Party Crasher".

* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: Luka never hesitates to throw himself in danger to save Marinette from the VillainOfTheWeek. Especially in "Captain Hardrock" where he lets himself get re-captured so Marinette can escape, in "Miracle Queen" where he [[spoiler:takes a magical wasp sting for her]], and "Wishmaker" where he risks getting crushed leading a giant robot away from her hiding place.
* AmazonChaser: Downplayed. Thomas Astruc confirmed that Luka [[LoveAtFirstSight fell]] for Marinette at first sight in his debut episode, hence his comment on how "unbelievably brave" she is.
* AmicableExes: Becomes this with [[spoiler:Marinette]] in Season 4. They acknowledge that while they didn't work out as a couple, it doesn't mean they can't still be friends or support each other's dreams.
* ArtistsAreAttractive: And he knows it, if his LoveConfession's usage of musical metaphors is any indication.
* AscendedFanboy: He's a huge fan of Jagged Stone. In "Truth", it is revealed that [[spoiler: Jagged Stone is his father and he even invites him to write new songs with him at the end of the episode]].
* BadassNormal: [[spoiler:Thanks to his Mirakung-fu training with Su-Han during his stay at Brazil, Luka can fight armies of Miraculized to protect everyone and is shown to be very adept at using it.]]
* BandOfRelatives: He and his sister Juleka are the guitarists in the band Kitty Section.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's pretty chill for the most part, which makes him yelling at Roth and XY for plagiarizing Kitty Section in "Silencer" a sight to behold.
* TheBusCameBack: He returns to Paris in "Re-creation" after having completed his training in Mirakung-Fu with Su Han.
* ChildProdigy: At 15, he's also an incredibly gifted artisan, able to craft several gorgeous stringed musical instruments (including wooden guitars and violins). He can also ''play'' many stringed musical instrument very well, including the guitar and the violin.
* ClarkKentOutfit: Luka's [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/characters/images/6/6d/Luka_render.webp/revision/latest?cb=20210930154154 civilian clothes]] hide his muscular physique despite how apparently thin they are. While not as muscular as Kim, both his [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/lady-bug/images/4/40/Viperionrender.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20230116191353 hero]] and [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/lady-bug/images/0/02/Silencer_render_3.png/revision/latest?cb=20230115110154 two]] [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/lady-bug/images/6/63/Truth_%28426%29.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20210626185138 akumatized]] supervillains identities show that he still have impressive body shape.
* CommonalityConnection: He and Marinette bond over being fans of Jagged Stone.
* CoolBigBro:
** He is very supportive of Juleka's dream to be a model in "Reflekdoll".
** This extends to the rest of the gang given he and Juleka are twins and are a year older than the rest of the group (Luka is a freshman in lycée while Juleka is repeating her final year in collège).
* CurtainsMatchTheWindows: Zigzagged. Luka has light blue hair and eyes, but it's implied that the former is dyed.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Luka has an EmoTeen style as a civilian and his snake AnimalMotif is always associated with wickedness. But he is a snake-themed superhero who is firmly on the side of good, with a very positive attitude.
* DidNotGetTheGirl: Despite his obvious feelings for Marinette, [[spoiler: and their brief relationship over the season 3-4 break,]] he ultimately ends up [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy helping her pursue Adrien.]]
* DisappearedDad: "Truth" reveals he never knew his father, and Anarka refuses to talk about him. [[spoiler:His father is Jagged Stone, who walked out on him and Anarka to pursue his musical career.]]
* EmoTeen: Subverted. He has the look of one, but is fairly laid-back and positive.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Most characters notice what great chemistry Luka and Marinette share, and frequently remark what a cute couple they'd make. A few characters (Kagami and Bob Roth) even [[MistakenForRomance mistake them for a couple]]! [[spoiler:Subverted when they actually get together at the end of Season 3, but played straight when they break up soon after]].
* FamilyThemeNaming: Like his mother and twin sister, his name ends in "-ka".
* {{Foil}}: To Adrien -- Both boys are teenagers with musical talent who attract Marinette's interest, but Luka is somewhat more emotionally open than the closed-off Adrien, and their musical styles (rock guitarist vs. classical pianist) contrast as well. Also, their ways of handling rejection differ as shown in "Frozer": Cat Noir's response is to act bitter and sulk despite Ladybug explicitly telling him she liked someone else, and while Marinette never told Luka her feelings for Adrien, he caught on and encouraged her to speak with Adrien.
* AFriendInNeed: Despite his lingering feelings for Marinette, in Season 4 he doesn't hesitate to encourage her to speak to Adrien, nor help Marinette and Adrien sort through their anxious feelings about their futures in "Wishmaker" because they're his friends and he wants them to be happy. He also never hesitates to protect his friends during Akuma attacks.
* FriendlyRival: In contrast with Marinette and Kagami before they form a real friendship in "Ikari Gozen", Luka and Adrien bear no ill jealousy towards each other over Marinette's affection. Luka seems fine with Marinette's huge crush towards Adrien, and he also always encourages her to confess her feelings towards Adrien.
* HeroicBastard: He's the illegitimate son of [[spoiler:Jagged Stone]].
* HeroicSacrifice: In "Miracle Queen", he protects Marinette from the magic brainwashing wasps coming their way by using himself as a shield against them.
* HeroicWillpower:
** Has the honor of being the third character to attempt to resist an Akuma in "Truth". Like Bustier before him, he buckles in the end, but points for trying.
** In "Migration" he actually manages to overcome the Akuma's influence completely, rejecting it before being fully akumatized so as to not reveal Ladybug's and Cat Noir's identities to Monarch.
* HiddenDepths: Due to his EmoTeen look, love of playing rock guitar, and being in a BandOfRelatives with his sister [[spoiler: and being Jagged Stone's son]], everyone assumes he wants to be TheRockStar when he grows up. "Wishmaker" reveals that Luka actually wants to make stringed musical instruments (even classical ones like violins) to help other people enjoy music. He's also shown to be a very gifted artisan, creating a violin that can play music from the cool breeze over the river.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Viperion's tool, of all things, is a harp or lyre. It isn't made clear as to ''how'' it can be used as a weapon, but he uses it as a distraction against Desperada that wins the battle. In a later episode, he's shown to throw his harp like a discus (and judging from the expression of the person he's hitting it with, it really hurts), or a shield (which he uses to deflect oncoming attacks).
* InkSuitActor: He looks somewhat similar to [[https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/lady-bug/images/4/4a/Andrew_Russell.png/revision/latest?cb=20180331143551 Andrew Russell, his English voice actor]].
* InTheBlood: His incredible musical skills are implied to be inhereted from his music-loving mother. [[spoiler:And his father, Jagged Stone.]]
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy:
** At the end of "Frozer", he notices Marinette's feelings for Adrien and despite his own attraction to her, Luka encourages Marinette to talk to Adrien in an attempt to sort out her feelings.
** Does it again in "Heart Hunter" [[spoiler:when Marinette is ready to throw herself into his arms when she's heart-broken over Adrien's feelings for Kagami. Rather than take advantage of her rebounding due to heartbreak, Luka urges her not to give up on the boy she still likes if she's still in love with him, and only be with Luka if it's what she really wants.]]
** In "Cat Blanc", he's shown playing a song with the others while Marinette and Adrien have a romantic dance. In "Félix", Marinette is open about her crush on Adrien to him and he tells Marinette that he'll be happy for her and Adrien if they do end up together.
** In "Wishmaker," he hints that he still has feelings for Marinette, but encourages her to talk to Adrien anyway. He even walks her over to Adrien and starts a conversation because he knows Marinette is too shy to make the first move.
* LikeParentUnlikeChild: His mother Anarka is very bombastic and headstrong [[spoiler:as is his father Jagged Stone]], while Luka is more quiet and easy-going.
* LivingLieDetector: Downplayed, but Luka has the uncanny ability to hear people's "inner music," or sense their inner emotions. As such, he can tell when Marinette is being sincere and when she's hiding something (though the latter is not hard since she's a BadLiar) and he can often tell how people really feel under their turmoil, as shown with Adrien and Alec in "Wishmaker."
* LotusPosition: Marinette finds him in one when she first meets him in "Captain Hardrock." It's implied that he often meditates which is why he's such a MellowFellow.
* LoveAtFirstSight: [[http://miracumess.tumblr.com/post/179893544526/he-had-love-at-first-what According]], to one of the creators, Luka fell for Marinette at first sight when they first met in "Captain Hardrock". He confesses it to Marinette himself in "Silencer", first as Silencer and then as himself.
* LoveHurts: Being in love with Marinette has taken its toll on him. As Marinette herself notes, Luka gets akumatized twice because of his feelings for her, and he becomes a HeartbrokenBadass in Season 4 due to [[spoiler:still being downhearted over their breakup in "Truth"]].
* LoveMartyr: Downplayed, but despite Marinette obviously still being in love with Adrien, Luka doesn't seem to mind being the obvious second choice. [[spoiler: At least until the fourth season episode "Truth", where he finally reaches the limits of his patience.]]
* MellowFellow: Luka is quite relaxed and easygoing.
* MistakenForRomance: Luka and Marinette are often mistaken for boyfriend and girlfriend throughout seasons 2 and 3. Downplayed as there is some mutual attraction between them, but Marinette is too smitten with Adrien to seriously think about anyone else. [[spoiler:Averted when they finally do get together in the Season 3 Finale, but averted when they're forced to break up soon after.]]
* MrFanservice: While we can't deny he is as attractive as Adrien, Luka is also shown to be more muscular than him, judging from the physiques of his hero and villain identities, who all wear form-fitting bodysuits. Also, depending on your preference, being tall, lanky, more muscular, having a punk aesthetic, and playing rock guitar is ''very'' swoon-worthy.
* MusicalAssassin: His weapon as Viperion is a small harp or lyre.
* NiceGuy: Luka is a polite and genial individual. It's quite telling that the first time he gets akumatized, it's over his friends getting screwed over, and the second time, he resists to the bitter end and tells Marinette (who is the target of his akuma-ire) to run just before succumbing. [[spoiler:He's so nice that he can stand to listen and help Marinette vent to him about her love life even after their own romantic relationship fell apart, and tells her that if she needs him for more, she knows where to find him...and then also [[RunningGag Adrien, Jagged Stone and Penny]].]]
* OppositesAttract: Downplayed. While Luka and Marinette are both Jagged Stone fans and artistic souls (Marinette with fashion designs, Luka with music) Marinette is still very anxious and klutzy, while Luka is very mellow and composed.
* PowerDyesYourHair: As Viperion, the dyed parts in his hair go from teal blue to teal green.
* PunnyName: Luk''a Couffeine'' likely refers to ''"acouphène"'', the French word for "tinnitus." It's most obvious in his debut episode "Captain Hardrock," where Luka is introduced to be part of a BandOfRelatives who like to blast loud rock music from their houseboat. (So loud that it flips over several cars, and each time the Mic leaves feedback that sounds similar to tinnitus ringing in one's ears.) Probably explains why the rest of his family's first names also end in "-a" (Anarka, Juleka) to keep the pun.
* PutOnABus: In "Migration", he leaves Paris after Monarch finds out that he knows Ladybug's and Cat Noir's identities.
* TheQuietOne: Not as quiet as his sister Juleka, but he prefers to speak with music than his voice. It even becomes his defining akumatized feature in "Silencer".
* TheReliableOne: Part of what draws Marinette to Luka (especially over Season 3) is how dependable he is. As Marinette notes, he's always there for her and she can count on him for anything. This helps him stand out from Adrien, whose strict home life and [[ObliviousToLove obliviousness to her feelings]], while not his fault, often leave her feeling miserable. Come season 5, he's even dependable enough [[spoiler:to hear Marinette out with regards to her love life, despite being her ex...''and'' Adrien, her new boyfriend. [[ExaggeratedTrope He'll even have a heart-to-heart]] with his own father, Jagged Stone, wondering about how to be a good dad after all that '''''and then''''' his assistant over [[SubordinateExcuse being in love with Jagged]].]]
* {{Retcon}}: He was originally stated to be two years older than Juleka, but [[https://twitter.com/Thomas_Astruc/status/1378326816402837504 as of season 4]], they are now twins, with Juleka still attending Collège Françoise Dupont because she failed and had to repeat a year.
* TheRockStar: He likes playing guitar and is part of a rock band alongside his sister. He even has the strange ability to read people's emotions just by playing music on his guitar.
* RomanticFalseLead: He's set up throughout Seasons 2 and 3 as a potential alternate love interest for Marinette. [[spoiler:They get together in the Season 3 finale, but break up in the Season 4 premiere.]]
* RomanticRunnerUp: As Marinette and her friends discuss, there's nothing wrong with Luka. He's cute, kind, reliable, and would make an adorable couple with Marinette... He's just not ''Adrien''. [[spoiler:The two get together in the Season 3 finale, but it falls apart in the Season 4 premiere.]]
* SageLoveInterest: He's rather spiritual, meditates, and has a "go with the flow" outlook on life that he uses to soothe Marinette's anxiety and help her feel more confident with herself.
* SaveScumming: As Viperion, he can set a point in time to return to, and then return to that point as many times as needed as long as he stays within five minutes of it.
* SecretKeeper: He rejects an Akuma in order to not reveal Ladybug's and Cat Noir's identities to Monarch and leaves Paris by the end of "Migration" in order for Monarch to not be able to get to him and force him to reveal their identities.
* SecretSecretKeeper: In "Wishmaker", he learns both Ladybug and Cat Noir's identities when they're affected by the titular villain. Ladybug is suspicious that he may have done so since he had clearly used Second Chance at least once during the fight, but he lies and tells her he didn't so she won't worry. He's forced to tell her one season later in "Migration" when Monarch realizes he knows while trying to akumatize him, and he explains this to all his friends when explaining why he has to leave the city.
* SerenadeYourLover: Keeping in mind that it was LoveAtFirstSight for Luka, he's often shown trying to woo Marinette with music. [[spoiler:In the closing scene of the Season 3 finale, he briefly succeeds, but it doesn't last through the Season 4 premiere.]]
* ShipperOnDeck: After he and Marinette become [[spoiler:AmicableExes]] in Season 4, he asks her how things are going with Adrien and encourages her to confess her feelings more often.
* ShootTheMedicFirst: Because of [[SaveScumming his powers]], his enemies need to take him down first if they want to have any chance to win and as such, both Party Crasher and [[spoiler:Cat Noir]] make him their number one target when they fight his team.
* SiblingYinYang: Easy going and sociable as opposed to the shy and reserved Juleka.
* SnakePeople: Takes up the Snake Miraculous and becomes the superhero Viperion.
* SupportPartyMember: Downplayed. Viperion's special power makes him more suited to a supporting role, even though he has the same enhanced strength and reflexes as any Miraculous holder. Putting himself in battle only risks him being disabled and the advantage of his TimeRewindMechanic going with him.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: Downplayed as he's the same height as Adrien and his black hair is (presumably) dyed teal, but he still gives off this vibe, particularly in his debut episode.
* TellMeAboutMyFather: Grew up not knowing who his father was, but when he asked about it his mother refused to talk about him. It takes Anarka being put under a truth-telling spell by his second akumatized form to get her to say [[spoiler:it was Jagged Stone]].
* TimeRewindMechanic: His special power as Viperion is the ability to rewind time back to the moment he first activates his power, but only within a five minute limit.
* TsurimeEyes: Although not as pointy as Kagami. They represent his mature and NiceGuy side.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: A male example. He was already angry at Bob Roth, but seeing the guy threaten [[LoveInterest Marinette]] tipped Luka over into Akumatization.
* WackyParentSeriousChild: Downplayed, but his mother Anarka is very bombastic and eccentric [[spoiler:as is his father, Jagged Stone]], while Luka is more responsible and down-to-earth. In particular, Anarka likes to keep a messy house while Luka's cabin is shown to be very tidy, and she refuses to turn the music down in her debut episode while Luka was more than willing.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: He's very patient, mature and sage-like for a 15 to 16-year-old. Often, his wisdom and maturity puts most adults in the room to shame. His English voice actor even stated that [[spoiler:the reason he doesn't tell Marinette that he discovered her and Cat Noir's secret identities is because he understands it's a secret too great for him, or anyone else, to know about.]]
* TheWorfEffect: While invaluable in his debut, Viperion has been less effective in his next appearances. He gets trapped by Party Crasher first after throwing himself in the path of his beam to protect his allies, and in "Miracle Queen", [[spoiler:Cat Noir and Ladybug managed to anticipate his Second Chances before defeating him. He's notably the only brainwashed hero to be "defeated" by having his Miraculous removed (everyone else only was stopped by Miracle Queen's defeat), and the only one of them to not once get the better of Ladybug and Cat Noir during the fight (while Rena and King Monkey manage to trick and depower Dragon Bug with their abilities while Pegasus warps Snake Noir into the sun though both are undone by Snake Noir using Viperion's own power in a bit of irony)]]. Somewhat justified by the fact that in his first episode, he was an unknown element, while everyone now knows to ShootTheMedicFirst.

The heir of a high-profile Japanese family. A skilled fencing student, spirited, athletic tomboy whose father and brother are historians.

In "Timetagger" it's revealed that, in the future,
she becomes a rival of Adrien, and later a friend to Marinette.

In
will become the episode "Ikari Gozen", she becomes Rabbit superheroine Bunnyx, which happens to the Dragon Miraculous hero, Ryuko, but is temporarily benched when she indirectly reveals her identity to Hawk Moth.present-day Alix in "Evolution".

* AbductionIsLove: In "Pretension", she begins to develop feelings for Félix, despite him kidnapping her, as he revealed his dislike of oppressive people and even defends him from Ladybug and Cat Noir.
* AcademicAthlete: Kagami is a terrific fencer, ice skater, ''and'' archer. She also proves her intelligence in "Ikari Gozen", by solving all the riddles very quickly.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: She develops feelings for and eventually starts dating Félix, a former villain who sold out Paris to his supervillain uncle and tried to exterminate humanity and recreate a new world where beings like him can be free.
* AllThereInTheManual: If the in-character Instagram accounts are to be taken as canon and have accurate dates to the timeline outside of the holidays, [[https://www.instagram.com/p/B5NwqrigLNI/?igshid=quxyufyioaw2 Kagami's birthday is or is roughly November 20]].
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: While her hair is blue, most characters describe it as black, and Kagami is a fairly stoic and quiet character even after defrosting thanks to [[PositiveFriendInfluence Marinette and Adrien's presence]].
* AmbiguouslyBi: Her [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/static_assets_upload4400615603244912345_1.png official bio]] and her words towards Adrien and Marinette from "Protection": "I love you both! I truly wish you two being in love wasn't so painful to me, but it is." imply that she may have romantic feelings for Marinette as well as for Adrien.
* AmbiguousSituation: Many Japanese families (especially for samurai or ninja descendants) or families who are prestigious on some specific Japanese martial arts still embrace the traditional patrilineal system, thus make most of their surnames taken from their father's side. In Kagami's case, however, her surname is taken from her mother's family name, which means that the possibility that her parents are no longer together exists. However, in Japan, if the woman is from a famous/prestigious family, the husband would take his wife's surname, especially if the family only had a daughter since the husband taking his wife's surname would help to continue the family name.
* AmicableExes: She and Adrien had a rough break-up, but they eventually become friends.
* AmbiguouslyHuman: Just like Adrien and Félix, there are hints across season 5 that she's a human created by the Peacock Miraculous. ''Unlike'' them, there's much less foreshadowing about it and no confirmation about it even as she [[spoiler:begins dating the latter.]]
* TheAtoner: She attempts to take on Ikari Gozen alone since she was responsible for her Akumatization. It doesn't work, although she succeeds when she follows Ladybug's plan (where she's the star player).
* BaitAndSwitchBoss: In "Ikari Gozen", her disappointment upon finding out Marinette was only pretending to be her friend to sabotage her so she couldn't hook up with Adrien makes her vulnerable to an Akuma, but Marinette saves her by sticking up for her when her mother calls and demands she comes home, which to her mother's Akumatization instead.
* BilingualBonus: The Tsurugi family crest on Kagami's ring is the Japanese word for "woman" with a sword in it.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Adrien. Both of them are talented rich kids with friendless backgrounds raised by ControlFreak parents. [[spoiler: Takes a potential literal meaning with the show heavily implying that both of them are sentimonsters, which would mean that they've been created from actual magic feathers.]]
* BornOfMagic: She's heavily implied to have been magically created by the Peacock Miraculous, especially by comments such as from Gabriel about her and Adrien being perfect for each other as they were "made of the same design" (implying that the reason their parents are trying to force them into an arranged marriage is cause they're both humans created by the Peacock Miraculous) and Félix remarking that he finally found a girl just like him after strangely reacting upon noticing her family ring (implying that he sensed her Amok inside the ring with the Peacock Miraculous).
* BrutalHonesty: Kagami doesn't seem to have a filter of any kind; if she has something on her mind, she'll generally blurt it out without considering the consequences or if the words hurt anybody.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Shows shades of this with Adrien. Upon Lila sending everyone a photo of her kissing Adrien on the cheek, Kagami is akumatized due to her jealousy and threatens Lila to give up Adrien, declaring him to be the only one worthy of her affections. When Marinette greets them onboard the ''Liberty'', Kagami clings tighter to Adrien's arm while narrowing her eyes at Marinette. On two different occasions she warns Marinette about her hesitation with Adrien, though it's difficult to tell if her advice is well-meaning or taunting, due to her delivery. While she and Marinette do become friends later, she chooses Adrien over their friendship (though she does regret hurting Marinette's feelings), with Marinette [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy doing the opposite]].
* ColdHam: In "Ikari Gozen", she asks Marinette various personal questions ranging from her ethical decision-making to her blood-type, reading them all straight from an online friendship test in the same blank expression and deadpan monotone as when she is figuring out the clues to the contest. When she is Ryuko, [[LargeHam the ham isn't nearly as cold]].
* CommonalityConnection:
** Kagami is a new student to the school, just as Adrien was. They're also both skilled in fencing and are lonely prodigies from an upper class family.
** This also allows the romance between her and Félix to bloom, as the two of them are horribly suffocated by their parents' controlling nature, and desire to be free.
* CunningLinguist: Despite being a relatively recent NewTransferStudent coming from Japan, she speaks a very good French aside from her native Japanese. She also likely knows English. It's also shown in the series that she's studying and is able to speak Russian.
* TheCorruptible: While everyone being this is standard for the akumatized villains, Kagami is second only to Chloé in having the most akumatized forms of all the Miraculous Team with four: Riposte, Oni-Chan, Lies, Ryukomori, and if you count Riposte Prime, then it turns into a whooping ''five''.
* CustomUniform: Kagami's fencing uniform is red instead of the standard white like the rest of the class.
* DatingWhatDaddyHates: Mother in her case, as by the end of "Pretension", she starts to reciprocate Félix's feelings for her, despite her mother considering him "a good-for-nothing" and wanting her to get back with his cousin Adrien.
* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype: Kagami deconstructs IceQueen and IneffectualLoner. While it makes sense that Kagami is a bit of a loner since she is an exchange student from Japan, her FriendlessBackground is actually caused by her mother forbidding her from having friends, in order to keep focusing on her fencing and kendo training, not because she chose it. This results in Marinette and her friends thinking she is a shallow, cold-hearted girl who is as bad as Lila and Chloé. As "Ikari Gozen" shows, Kagami has trouble forming a normal friendship with Marinette and when she finds out that Marinette hates her, Kagami genuinely sad over this.
* DemotedToSatelliteLoveInterest: After being a significant player in season 2 and a supporting character in season 3 and 4, season 5 has her get hit with [[spoiler:the Miraculous being transformed into allience rings]] the hardest, has her character eventually revolve around her relationship with Adrien, where [[spoiler:her mother and his father intend to pair them up together]], and [[spoiler:Félix, whom she begins to date after "Pretension" when he kidnaps her in order to take her away from her controlling mother.]]
* DisappearedDad: It is unknown if Kagami's father is present in her life. Either both her parents raised her, or her mother, Tomoe, raised her alone.
* ElementalPowers: She has them in her hero form, Ryuko. She receives them once again as an akumatized villain through her Alliance Ring in "Perfection".
* ElementalShapeshifter: The power of the Dragon Miraculous grants her this.
* FatalFlaw: She has no verbal filter; what she thinks is exactly what comes out. This is what puts her civilian identity at risk and causes their friendship to hit a rocky start.
* {{Foil}}:
** To Marinette/Ladybug -- They both have [[HairColorDissonance black hair stylized as blue]] (but Kagami has BoyishShortHair similar to Sabine while Marinette/Ladybug has hers in GirlishPigtails), attract Adrien's affections, are from prominent Asian ethnicities, and wear red suits. But while Marinette is open and friendly, but has trouble expressing her crush on Adrien, Kagami is more closed-off and distant but is more confident in making her attraction to Adrien known. There's also their reactions to Chloé's bullying. While Marinette lets Chloé bully her for years before finally learning to stand up for herself, Kagami immediately tells Chloé where she can shove it the very first time she tries. Taken further in Season 3; [[spoiler:just like how Adrien and Luka are both Snake Miraculous heroes at different points, Marinette and Kagami both become Dragon Miraculous holders. But the former uses it temporarily and fuses its power with her Ladybug Miraculous, the latter is the "primary" wielder and uses it by itself.]]
** To Adrien -- As stated above in the section, both of them lonely prodigies from an upper class family, and Kagami has a family ring that mirrors Adrien's Miraculous. But, while Adrien has a more friendly if slightly reserved personality, Kagami is more aggressive and is more reserved than he is. Ultimately, both [[IJustWantToHaveFriends want to have friends]], an effort that initially goes poorly due to having NoSocialSkills and strict parenting but eventually succeeds.
** To Chloé -- Both are teenaged girls from well-off families who have a romantic interest in Adrien--but Chloé is a SpoiledBrat who acts like she's already Adrien's girlfriend [[SelfProclaimedLoveInterest (despite his feelings on the matter)]] while Kagami is an all around much better (if somewhat cold) person who doesn't feel entitled to Adrien's affection and Adrien has actually shown a modicum of interest in her.
** To Lila -- Both are teenaged girls who have an attraction to Adrien -- but Lila is an unrepentant liar who tries to force her feelings on Adrien and is quite antagonistic towards Marinette while Kagami is honest to the point of bluntness, has a reciprocal attraction (to some degree) with Adrien, and has a more civilized relationship with Marinette, [[spoiler:but soon becomes real friends with Marinette once they set aside their differences in "Ikari Gozen"]]. They're both alone when they transfer and have different ways of dealing with it; Lila lies to gain friends and threatens to destroy anyone who opposes her, using them like tools, while Kagami refuses to stoop low to become popular, but doesn't actually know how to make friends naturally, leaving her stuck trying to use an app to figure out how to communicate.
** To Luka -- Both are introduced in Season 2 as a romantic false lead for one of the main duo. But whereas Luka is a MellowFellow who appreciates Marinette for who she is, Kagami is LovingAShadow of Adrien and is disappointed by his true personality. And when both [[spoiler: discover the identity of Ladybug]], Luka resists Akumatisation and skips town [[spoiler: so that he won't give it away]], while Kagami gets akumatised twice [[spoiler: without revealing anything]].
* FriendlyRival: More like ''Civilized'' Rival. Kagami likes Adrien, but wants to win his affections fair and square. After realizing Marinette's feelings for him, she gives her solid advice to not hesitate in being forward with Adrien. The two end up being friends for real in "Ikari Gozen".
* GoodIsNotSoft:
** While she is an overall decent person, Kagami bluntly whispers to Marinette how her hesitation is hindering her in both ice skating and winning over Adrien.
** This trope actually holds her back from making friends with others, as her BrutalHonesty is interpreted as hostility and coldness, [[spoiler:which is part of why Marinette doesn't want to socialize with her during "Ikari Gozen".]]
* GreenEyedMonster: She really tries to hold in her envy. Unfortunately, Hawk Moth doesn't care and takes advantage of it in "Oni-Chan" to akumatize her over her jealousy of Adrien's photo with Lila. This is seen again in "Protection" where Lila takes advantage of her residual jealousy over Adrien's relationship with Marinette in order to deliberately get her akumatized again. And in "Emotion", after being asked by Félix (who was pretending to be Adrien) if she was jealous of "his" relationship with Marinette, she replied a little, but that she'll shut her feelings for Marinette's sake.
* GuestStarPartyMember: A bigger example than the other temporary Miraculous wielders. [[spoiler:Since Hawk Moth learns her identity, she only fights alongside Ladybug and Cat Noir for one battle before Ladybug is forced to retire her. As of "Mega Leech", Ryuko is seemingly back on the roster, presumably because with Shadow Moth having discovered the identities of the majority of the team anyway and Ladybug deciding she needs them despite that, Kagami's only as vulnerable as the others now making keeping her away a moot point.]]
* HairColorDissonance: Like Marinette, her hair is colored blue but is described as black InUniverse.
* HeartbrokenBadass: She's an AcademicAthlete and an example of SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining who gets heartbroken over her failed relationship with Adrien (especially in season 5 when he starts dating Marinette and she realises that she still has feelings for him), said heartbreak over her feelings for Adrien leading to a good chunk of her Akumatizations. She eventually gets over him however once she starts falling for his cousin, Félix.
* HeroesPreferSwords: She's a skilled fencer. Appropriately, as the Dragon Miraculous holder, her primary weapon is a sword.
* HeroicWillpower: In "Perfection", she manages to break free of the Akuma's influence after being shown that she's not alone and friendless as she was initially led to believe by Lila.
* HeroicSacrifice: In "Miracle Queen" she lets herself to be stung by the titular villain's brainwashing wasps to protect Adrien. Also in "Pretension", when being hunted by her akumatized mother, Kagami suggested to Argos (who kidnapped her and got her mother akumatized in the first place) to leave her behind, to get her to stop attacking him. However, [[NoOneGetsLeftBehind he refuses.]]
* HeroicSelfDeprecation:
** She considers herself not worthy to fight against her mother. She's correct; "worth" in this case refers to kenjutsu skill, and though she's a superb swordswoman, she's not on her mother's level.
** When Kagami discovers the messages between Alya and Marinette, rather than losing her temper, Kagami instead expresses disappointment and laments over not being worthy to foster a friendship. By then, Marinette [[JerkassRealization comes to her senses and forgoes her initial jealousy]] to truly become Kagami's friend.
** When her attempt at fighting Ikari Gozen alone fails, Ryuko apologizes to Ladybug for failing to listen to her and feels that she doesn't deserve her trust in wielding a Miraculous. Ladybug assures her that it's alright as she's made mistakes before and allows Ryuko to make up for her mistake by following the plan this time.
* HiddenDepths:
** Her tenure as Ryuko reveals a reckless side to Kagami. She disregards Longg attempting to tell her of Ladybug's plan and [[spoiler:immediately gives away her identity]] because she thinks it's best to [[ItsPersonal fight Ikari Gozen alone]]. Needless to say, it goes poorly.
** "Lies" reveals that she's quite good at drawing.
** Her multiple Akumatizations show that, despite coming across as a [[TheStoic stoic]] IceQueen, her feelings are intense and run deep. It gets lampshaded by Hawk Moth in "Oni-Chan", who remarks that "[[TranquilFury the strongest anger isn't always the nosiest one]]".
** In "Glaciator 2", it's revealed that she is an avid reader of {{Shoujo|Demographic}} manga.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: In season 5, she keeps believing that Lila considers her as a genuine friend, despite the fact that she has gotten her akumatized multiple times and briefly turned her against Marinette.
* HypocrisyNod: In "Lies" when she's confronting Adrien over his deception, Kagami acknowledges she's just as much a liar as him.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: In "Ikari Gozen", she attempts to befriend Marinette, but is brushed off for being a rival to Adrien's affections. She also runs off with Marinette and co. without her mother's permission in an effort to befriend them. Fortunately, Marinette realizes her mistake and reciprocates Kagami's friendship. It's also revealed that Kagami doesn't have access to social media or other phone contacts due to her strict mother.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: When Adrien states that he's returning to his original target in Ladybug, Kagami accepts his decision, but tells him that when he realizes he's gone after the wrong target, she'll be waiting for him. In short, Kagami is aware of Adrien having a crush on another girl, with the implication that she knows it to be Marinette or closely related to her, but she will be ready to claim Adrien if things don't work out the way he intended. This becomes especially true in season 5 where, despite her lingering feelings for Adrien (and potentially for Marinette too), she wants her mother to stop trying to force her and Adrien to get back together, as she supports Adrien's relationship with Marinette and doesn't want to hurt either of their friends. Unfortunately, her mother refuses to listen to her.
* ItsPersonal: As Ryuko, she attempts to take on Ikari Gozen herself since she caused her mother to get akumatized in the first place. It doesn't work due to her being a LeeroyJenkins.
* JerkassHasAPoint: While she was somewhat blunt to Marinette in "Frozer", Kagami made a valid point that the one of the main reasons Marinette's relationship with Adrien hasn't progressed is because of her own hesitation.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Kagami is blunt, taunts her opponents during a fencing duel, and is even described as an "ice queen". However, she has shown to be quite hospitable and a graceful loser. And although her relationship with Marinette gets a little rocky in "Frozer", she reaches out to her in an effort to become friends with her in "Ikari Gozen" as she had planned to do as stated at the end of "Riposte".
* {{Joshikousei}}: Kagami's everyday outfit appears to be a [[SchoolUniformsAreTheNewBlack school uniform]], an homage to her Japanese heritage.
* LeeroyJenkins:
** Surprisingly, she turns out to be this as Ryuko. Despite being normally composed, she jumps at the chance of being a superhero and is blinded by how [[ItsPersonal she must take responsibility for a problem that was her fault]] when Longg introduces himself, in spite of Longg trying to explain a plan to her. This results in Cat Noir getting temporarily incapacitated and Ikari Gozen no worse for wear (as well as the side effect of [[spoiler:her indirectly blurting out her identity, which means she'll be unlikely to be called upon for help again]]). Fortunately, Ryuko realizes her mistake in this and is able to make up for it shortly afterwards by listening to the plan this time.
** Going by production order, she first displays her fearless charge in "Desperada", facing the titular akuma with a stage microphone as her improvised weapon. Kagami is promptly captured.
* LoveHurts: If her number of Akumatizations caused or related to her feelings for Adrien is any indication.
* LovingAShadow: It's revealed in "Lies" that her feelings towards Adrien are this, as when she tells him to act more natural, to which he acts a bit more like he does as Cat Noir, she does not like the result and doesn't believe that to be his true personality. Justified in that Adrien hides his goofier personality from others in public for his father, meaning that Kagami can't possibly know that this is him being natural.
* MasterSwordsman: She comes from a family of Olympic fencing champions, and she's at the same level as Adrien, who's the best pupil of an Olympic fencer as well. As Ryuko, adding SuperSpeed, SuperStrength, ElementalShapeshifter powers and a magic sword to her preexisting skills makes her one of Ladybug and Cat Noir's most impressive ally.
* MeaningfulName:
** In Japanese, "kagami" means mirror, befitting how she's a {{Foil}} to Marinette and Adrien. Her Akuma form as Riposte is even shiny like a mirror.
** Her last name is the Japanese word for sword, and she's the latest in a line of fencing champions.
** Her superhero name is "'''Ryu'''ko", which is Japanese for "dragon child".
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone:
** She feels guilty for upsetting her mother in "Ikari Gozen", as it caused her to be akumatized. It's part of why Marinette/Ladybug decides that she's worthy enough to have a Miraculous and also causes Kagami/Ryuko to initially attempt to take on Ikari Gozen alone in an attempt to atone.
** In "Protection", after her de-Akumatization, she feels incredibly guilty for believing Lila's lies about Marinette and almost destroying their friendship over them and breaks up [[TearsOfRemorse crying]] in front of both Marinette and Adrien.
* NomDeMom: Her surname comes from her mother's family's side.
* NoSocialSkills: Due to being raised in a strict environment and having very little contact with peers her age like Adrien. She is generally blunt to the point of brutal honesty, which would repel people that can't handle her strong personality. In "Ikari Gozen", she relies on an app on how to make friends when partnered with Marinette, asking her bizarre questions and following each of her statements with an awkward forced smile.
* NotEvenBotheringWithTheAccent: Like Lila, although she isn't from France, she speaks with a native accent.
* NotSoStoic: In "Oni-Chan", she gets a photo of Lila kissing Adrien on the cheek, to which she angrily slices down some trees so hard her ''bokken'' breaks, and then she breaks down crying. Cue Akuma.
* OpenSecret: [[spoiler:She takes approximately three seconds to blow her identity to Hawk Moth, a feat only matched by Chloé (who did so deliberately).[[note]]To be fair, due to the situation she was in, her exposure was inevitable.[[/note]] Because of this, Ladybug informs her that she has to retire, although she brings her back in "Heart Hunter" in a weak attempt to sabotage her romantic moment with Adrien. Ladybug keeps entrusting her with the Dragon Miraculous throughout season 4 after several other temporary heroes got exposed by Miracle Queen.]]
* OurHumansAreDifferent: [[spoiler:She's heavily implied to be a human created by the Peacock Miraculous alongside Adrien and Félix.]]
* PerpetualFrowner: She goes at everything with a deadpan expression and monotone delivery. When she smiles, it initially looks [[TheUnsmile completely forced]].
* RedIsHeroic: Not only does her civilian outfit and fencing gear have notable shades of red, her superhero form is primarily red in color, matching the Dragon Kwami, Longg.
* ReiAyanamiExpy: She fits the bill in being an love interest of Adrien, having her hair styled in a bob cut, and having a SugarAndIcePersonality along with a strong connection to her mother.
* RelationshipUpgrade: She officially enters a relationship with Félix as of "Representation".
* RomanticFalseLead: She's set up throughout Seasons 2 and 3 as a potential alternate love interest for Adrien. [[spoiler:They get together in the Season 3 finale, but break up in the second episode of Season 4.]]
* SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining: With a ControlFreak mother who puts ''Gabriel'' to shame, Kagami is an expert fencer that has made her a WorthyOpponent for Adrien and a deadly foe for Ladybug and Cat Noir on the multiple occasions she was akumatized. With that said, she has NoSocialSkills, repeatedly giving Marinette mixed-messages in regards to Adrien and asking Marinette various questions from an online friendship test in an unnatural monotone.
* SamusIsAGirl: Everybody refers to her with male pronouns during her match with Adrien until she removes her mask, completely overlooking the fact that her fencing suit is relatively form-fitting, enough so that her gender is [[FailedASpotCheck rather obvious.]] Averted in the French version, however, where everyone knows she's a girl and Adrien's shock at her removing her mask is all to do with her looks rather than her GenderReveal.
* SecretSecretKeeper:
** It's revealed in "Representation" that Kagami had overheard Marinette talking about "losing the Miraculous" back in "Perfection" and had worked out that Marinette was Ladybug. Kagami was akumatized ''twice'' after overhearing that, both times because she was upset with Marinette, and she still never let on prior to confiding the information to Félix.
** She's also one of the few people that know Gabriel used to be Monarch by the end of season 5 and are keeping it a secret from the general public and especially from Adrien.
* ShipperOnDeck: A downplayed example. While she's interested in Adrien, she does give Marinette some advice on pursuing him, with the implication that she suspects Adrien has feelings for Marinette. [[spoiler:After her ill-fated time dating him between seasons 3 and 4, she gives up on him; by "Mr. Pigeon 72" she is fully aware of Marinette's feelings for him, and concludes while watching them: "They are really made for the each other."]]
* ShipTease: With Félix, as in "Emotion" he flirts with her while disguised as Adrien and empathized with her feeling controlled by her mother, and she was impressed by his willingness to defy Gabriel, before the former revealed his identity. Later in "Pretension" she starts to return his feelings. As of "Representation", they're officially an item.
* ShutUpHannibal: When Chloé tries to bully her, she swiftly and brutally puts the little brat in her place.
-->'''Chloé:''' What do you think you're doing, sitting next to ''my'' Adrikins?! That's ''my'' seat!\\
'''Kagami:''' Don't ever touch me again. Don't ever speak to me again. Don't ever ''look'' at me again.\\
'''Chloé:''' ''[backs right off]''
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Kagami is even called "ice queen", but has shown to be polite and friendly underneath her icy exterior.
* TookALevelInBadass: This girl already shows off amazing strength with her sword fighting skills, but then takes it to new heights when she becomes the Dragon Miraculous hero, Ryuko.
* TookALevelInCheerfulness: After befriending Marinette, Kagami is shown having fun with Adrien and Marinette when they attempt to sneak out from the Bourgeois' anniversary party.
* TsurimeEyes: In contrast to Marinette's TaremeEyes.
* TwoFirstNames: {{Inverted|Trope}}. "Kagami" and "Tsurugi" are both recognized, albeit uncommon, Japanese family names.
* UnrequitedLove: In season 5 she admits that she has fallen in love with Adrien again even while he's dating Marinette, but this time she puts her feelings aside for the sake of her friendship with Marinette, which Félix called admirable. Her [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/static_assets_upload4400615603244912345_1.png official bio]] also implies that she may have developed an unrequited crush on Marinette as well.
* TheUnsmile: Makes several of those while trying to bond with Marinette in "Ikari Gozen". Averted when she smiles sincerely.
* WorfHadTheFlu: In "Ikari Gozen", she is given the Dragon Miraculous when he mother is akumatized. As Ryuko, she has the same superpowers (and InstantExpert feature) as every other miraculous user. Unique to her however is that she is an ElementalShapeshifter with [[EmpoweredBadassNormal real-life fighting experience in swordsmanship]]. The result is a LightningBruiser with a magic sword, the skills to use it, can move in FlashStep and is capable of fighting Ikari Gozen (who is a [[AttackOfThe50FootWhatever 50-foot]] tall MasterSwordsman) to a standstill. Unfortunately, she was not allowed a secret identity because she needed the miraculous to free herself from Ikari Gozen's body, thus making any future appearances as Ryuko a liability that made her a "in-case of emergency" hero only.
* YouthfulFreckles: More so than Marinette.

Added example(s)

* GranolaGirl: She is very passionate about the environment, which ends up coming into play in the final arc of season 5, where she's one of the few not to fall under the spell of Alliance because she refused to buy an Alliance ring (because it was made of unsustainable materials.)

* InsecureLoveInterest: "Reflekdoll" hints that she feels insecure in her relationship with Rose; when akumatized into Reflekta, she spends a significant amount of time furiously chasing after Rose and trying to turn her into a duplicate so that Rose will never leave her.

* TookALevelInBadass: In "Deflagration", she weaponizes together with Rose a tied up akumatized Chloé against Monarchbug himself, essentially forcing him to deakumatize her (and creating enough of a distraction for Adrien to be able to steal back the Ladybug earrings from him).
