The heroic predecessor of He-Man.

Eldor/R'Tendril the Wise

    The Faceless One/Nikolas Powers
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2022_12_19_122455050.png
Played by: Richard Newman ('02)

The former ruler of Zalesia, and Evil-Lyn's father.

  • Adaptational Name Change: His name was Morgan Powers in the Masters of the Universe comics, but was changed to Nikolas Powers for the 2002 series.
  • All for Nothing: Nikolas broke a treaty with King Hiss in order to have a family with the woman he loved. Not only did Queen Maligna die in childbirth, he was cursed with the loss of his humanity, and even worse, he had to send his daughter into the far future and she turned to evil, even joining King Hiss in some continuities!
  • And I Must Scream: His punishment for violating the peace treaty with King Hiss was to be stripped of his humanity, transformed into a faceless wraith, and cursed with immortality and be unable to leave his castle. And this is after he lost his wife to childbirth.
  • The Beastmaster: In the comics he mentioned he could create an amulet that would allow its wielder to control the God Beasts of Eternia.
  • Complete Immortality: He cannot die by any means.
  • Fog Feet: The Faceless One is always portrayed, both in animation and comic books, as a ghostly figure with mystic smoke around his legs. When he finally received an action figure that had no representation of the smoke, many fans were displeased.
  • Love Ruins the Realm: He was so in love with his queen Maligna that he broke the treaty with King Hssss just so they could have a family, which had disastrous consequences for Zalesia as a whole.
  • In the Hood: He wears a massive hood that frames his head in shadow. Subverted as he has no real face to hide anymore.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: He only negotiated with the Snake Men after the Council refused to help rescue his daughter from King Hiss. The Gar representative at the council was particularly cruel, calling his daughter an abomination and saying it was best that she die.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: According to his classic bio, by marrying and having a daughter, he broke the Elder's treaty with King Hssss to not produce any heirs. Powers was stripped of his humanity, condemned to never leave Zalesia and forced to watch his beloved city destroyed by Serpos.
  • Papa Wolf: Even though he cannot physically leave the ruins of Zalesia, he does anything in his power to ensure his daughter's safety;
    • His classic bio has him ask the wizard-warrior He-Ro to use the power of Central Tower to send his daughter Evelyn into the future. There, with his immortality, he hoped to raise her away from the terror of the Great Wars.
    • In the comics, Nikolas' daughter Evelyn was kidnapped by King Hiss due to a prophecy stating one of the Council's heirs would defeat him in the future. At first he went to the Council to help him save his daughter, but when they refused and expressed a desire for his daughter to die he turned his back on them and negotiated with Hiss to release Serpos in exchange for her safety.
  • Skeletons in the Coat Closet: Like his daughter, he wears a skeletal breastplate over his robes.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: In the comics it's shown he looked almost exactly like his daughter Evelyn, down to the two sporting the same cropped hairstyle.

    Granamyr

The oldest and wisest of the dragons.

  • Always Someone Better: Is extremely jealous that Skytree is older than he is.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Granamyr leads the dragons by dint of being the oldest amongst them, but occasionally he's had to remind a few that he is also the most powerful.
  • Badass Boast: Combined with Third-Person Person in his very first appearance.
Granamyr: Granamyr doesn't fight, humans, Granamyr wins.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Happens in an episode where rival Morning Star managed to snuff out his fire pit. He-Man and crew seek to reignite the flame, but in the interim Granamyr feels every bit of his age without benefit of his power.
  • The Cameo: During DC's Eternity War arc, an engraving of Granamyr shows up on one of the doors inside Castle Grayskull.
  • Cool Old Guy: Oldest of all the dragons, and the second oldest critter on Eternia. And is easily more powerful than most of the cast put together.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The inevitable result of anyone trying to take Granamyr on in a direct fight.
  • Defrosting Ice King: Does not like humans, He-Man included, and makes no secret of it when he's first met. With each subsequent appearance his attitude softens marginally, though he still doesn't respect them much.
  • Good is Not Nice: While fundamentally a force for good, Granamyr takes no disrespect from anyone and no mercy for anyone who wrongs him.
  • Heroic Neutral: While he doesn't involve himself in Eternia's conflict with Skeletor, he has been known to aid He-Man and holds Skeletor in contempt.
  • Jerkass: With regards to Draego-Man whom he regards as an abomination. Small wonder D-M sided with Skeletor.
  • Mind Probe: A benign version. When She-Ra is transported into Eternia's distant past, she goes to Granamyr for help. He uses this to find out the details of her problems (and her life), but laments he has "no idea what an Orko is."
  • No-Sell: Is all but untouchable when at full power.
  • Not So Above It All: Even Granamyr is amused by Orko's antics and joins in the laughter.
  • Shout-Out: To Conan the Barbarian.

    He-Ro
Predecessor to He-Man created for the cancelled Powers Of Grayskull toyline. Living in Eternia's distant past, also known as "Preternia". He finally got an action figure in the 2009 Masters of the Universe Classics toyline.

  • Amnesiac Hero: Lost his memory after landing on Eternia but gradually got it back.
  • The Archmage: Is referred to as the most powerful wizard in the universe.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": Has a H for Hero as his Chest Insignia: He nearly had a G for Grayskull.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: Gray could transform into He-Ro by by placing one hand over his heart & flexing the other into a muscle & saying, "Magic & strength tempered by heart... I stand for peace!".
  • Chosen One: Was chosen by the Overlords to protect the sword and fight evil.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Though he has similarities to He-Man, He-Ro is a wizard rather than a Barbarian Hero.
  • Cool Sword: He had the Sword of He bestowed upon him by the Overlords of Trolla which eventually got passed down to He-Man.
  • Deus ex Machina: The unfinished The Powers of Grayskull: The Legend Begins! mini-comic had a stranger implied to be He-Ro show up to save He-Man from being overwhelmed by Snake Men.
  • Farm Boy: The bio for his sword says he was a farm boy on the planet Primus before the Overlords have him his sword.
  • Henshin Hero: Like He-Man, he has to transform from Gray into He-Ro.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He died in the Ultimate Battleground saving King Grayskull'' and bequeathed him his sword.
  • Horse of a Different Color: Would fly around on his "Turbo-dactyl" during the Great Wars.
  • I Choose to Stay: A combination of gratitude for Eldor heeling him and guilt over The Horde following him there cause He-Ro to stay and defend Eternia.
  • I Owe You My Life: After Eldor healed him, He-Ro vows to free Eternia from the Snake Men.
  • It's All My Fault: Feels responsible for The Horde following him and attacking Eternia which makes him stay and fight them.
  • Magic Staff: Carries one whose tip opens up to reveal a "spell-stone".
  • One-Steve Limit: Has taught magic to Dare, He-Man's son from the future who also fought under the name He-Ro.
  • Only One Name: His real name is only given as Ro. Since he'd lost his memory, Eldor named him Gray.
  • Related Differently in the Adaptation: Exactly how he and He-Man are related. The material from the Classics toyline had his son marry King Grayskull's daughter to found the kings of Eternia, but both the 2013 DC series and Masters of the Universe: Revelation simply make him Grayskull's son. And other unproduced prototype material had him and King Grayskull as the same guy!
  • Spell Book: Gets most of his magic from Eldor's Book Of Living Spells, he's also mentioned as drawing his power from the Book Of Transformation.
  • Technology Uplift: Eldor's bio says that the Healing Spring caused He-Ro's techno-organic virus to spread throughout Eternia and turn it into a world of technology as well as magic.
  • Training the Gift of Magic: Learned a lot of his magic from Eldor who would often get frustrated with him but was eventually proud of his progress
  • Trapped in Another World: Horde Prime infected him with a techno-organic virus and sent him through a portal to Eternia.
  • Wizards from Outer Space: Was a space adventurer fighting The Horde before they stranded him on Eternia.

Vikor, the He-Man of the North
Played by: Adam Gifford (Masters of the Universe: Revelation)

    Wun-Dar, the Savage He-Man
Played by: Jay Tavare (Masters of the Universe: Revelation)

  • Mythology Gag: He's an attempt to make canon the mysterious "Wonder Bread He-Man" with brown hair and different armor (who nobody can prove was actually offered by Wonder Bread). He even comes with an "Eternian baked good".

    Zodac Zur
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zodac_9796.jpg
Played by: Lou Scheimer (80's)

  • Ambiguously Brown: The 80's figure and animated version. Comics and box art showed him as caucasian instead, just like the Classics figure.
  • Balance Between Good and Evil: His main function. He would only aid the Heroic Warriors if the forces of evil tried to obtain power that would throw the cosmic balance out of alignment, and in one particular case, would tip off Skeletor about those items so He-Man could seal them away.
  • Cool Chair: Rides around on the throne of Castle Grayskull, which has the power to let him move through the cosmos.
  • Expy: Of Metron of the New Gods, another neutral character who uses a Cool Chair to get around.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: He could be named Zodac or Zodak. Currently, the last one is the name given to his disciple

    Zodak/Kar-Tor
Played by: Christopher Judge ('02)

  • Ink-Suit Actor: He is voiced by Christopher Judge and looks pretty similar to Teal'c.
  • Karma Houdini: Never really answers for the more morally questionable actions he committed in the 2002 cartoon.
  • Retcon: At first, he was supposed to be the 2002 version of Zodac, but was retconned as a disciple of the Cosmic Enforcer.
  • Revenge Before Reason: He allowed King Hiss to be freed just to have a chance to kill him, endangering the lives of everyone on Eternia. Later, during the fight at Castle Greyskull, he abandons He-Man to fight both Rattlor and Snake Face on his own while he moves on to fight King Hiss.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The Masters' response to his actions.
  • You Killed My Brother
