This is for the various characters that show up in the ''VideoGame/KingsQuest'' games and [[Literature/KingsQuest Expanded Universe]].

[[folder:The Royal Family]]
The rulers of Daventry, and the main protagonists for ([[VideoGame/KingsQuestMaskOfEternity most of]]) the games.
* BadassFamily: All of them have undergone adventures at least once.
* ButtMonkey: A meta example. These games are best known for TheManyDeathsOfYou, and since they rely heavily on TrialAndErrorGameplay, it's expected to see these characters die in countless ways.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: [[AvertedTrope Averted]]. If their [[TheManyDeathsOfYou many possible deaths]] are an indication, their limitations are very much human. In ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestVAbsenceMakesTheHeartGoYonder KQ5]]'' for example, Graham can't cross a desert without water, climb a mountain without the proper equipment, or travel across an ocean without a boat.
* {{Guile Hero}}es: Their adventures require them to be as keen as they are [[{{Determinator}} willful]].
* ModestRoyalty
** Graham grew up as the son of a knight, and [[OfferedTheCrown ascended the throne]] with no more intention than to serve his country. ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestVAbsenceMakesTheHeartGoYonder KQ5]]'' would send him off to an unfamiliar land with nothing more than his new-found strength and the clothes on his back.
** Alexander [[spoiler:spent his entire childhood as a slave to Manannan]], and continues to see himself as such even after [[spoiler:discovering his true identity]].
** Rosella goes about Tamir disguised as a peasant girl, and is even dismissed as "a ragged commoner" by a bratty prince.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: That "something" being undergoing journeys of [[TheEpic epic]] proportions.
* RulingCouple: Graham and Valanice, [[spoiler:Alexander and Cassima]].
* SpinOffspring: Alexander and Rosella.
* UntoUsASonAndDaughterAreBorn: Again, Alexander and Rosella.

The patriarch of the family. Originally started out as Sir Graham, the son of one of Daventry's knights, but a SuccessionCrisis caused King Edward to [[OfferedTheCrown offer him the crown]] after he proved his loyalty and cleverness in a quest. As a result, while Graham is wise and just in terms of actual ruling, when it comes to courtly manners he's a bit of a bumpkin who's still more at home acting like a humble squire than a blue-blooded aristocrat. Protagonist of ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestIQuestForTheCrown KQ1]]'', ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestIIRomancingTheThrone KQ2]]'', ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestVAbsenceMakesTheHeartGoYonder KQ5]]'' and ''VideoGame/KingsQuest2015''.

-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/JoshMandel (''V'', ''VI''), Creator/ChristopherLloyd (old), Creator/JoshKeaton (young) (''2015'')

* {{Adorkable}}: ''A Knight To Remember'' reveals he was quite the nerd. Seeing him squee at the possibility of the effects of a potion is quite cute.
* AwesomeMomentOfCrowning: In ''VideoGame/KingsQuestIQuestForTheCrown''.
* BadassBeard: Sports an impressive one in ''A Knight To Remember''
* BadassGrandpa: Now officially a grandpa in ''A Knight To Remember''
* BenevolentBoss: By way of [[NiceToTheWaiter Nice to the Entire Castle Staff and his Subjects]]. Aside from his being genuinely nice and caring, he also reasons pragmatically that remembering birthdays and anniversaries and giving presents and good treatment and other niceties is a small price to pay for staff who are thus more motivated to do their jobs well and make ''his'' life easier.
* ButtMonkey: In ''VideoGame/KingsQuestVAbsenceMakesTheHeartGoYonder'' and one of the [[TieInNovel Tie-In Novels]].
* CoolHat: His iconic feathered adventurer's cap, which he prefers to his crown.
* CoolOldGuy
* DeadpanSnarker: Especially when he's voiced by Josh Mandel.
* DespairEventHorizon: In ''Kings Quest III'' when Rosella was chosen as a HumanSacrifice. He went so far into HeroicBSOD [[spoiler:that it was was entirely on Alexander to fight the dragon]].
* DontCallMeSir: [[AllThereInTheManual He was the son of a mid-level knight and hadn't any higher ambitions than serving the country.]] He's really a soldier at heart.
* GeniusBruiser: Though not really a stereotypical genius, per se, he does combine being "built like a linebacker" ([[ as he's often described]]) with a clever, well-educated mind and preferring to think his way through problems. Though he does engage in swordplay (and frying pan-wielding) on occasion, especially in the {{Fan Remake}}s, {{Fan Sequel}}s, and [[TieInNovel Tie-In Novels]].
* GeniusSweetTooth: See above for the "genius" part, and the ExtendedUniverse paints him as loving sweets perhaps more than his waistline would approve.
* TheGoodKing
* HappilyMarried
* HeroesWantRedheads
* HeroicBSOD: Graham went through this when his son Alexander was kidnapped as a baby, then again when Rosetta was to be sacrificed to a dragon. Also happens in "A Knight To Remember" [[spoiler: when he feels responsible for getting Achaka killed by the dragon.]]
* LoveBeforeFirstSight: How he met Valanice.
* NoHeroToHisValet: His Prime Minister is less likely to overlook Graham's quirks and occasional lapses in judgment, and calls him out on them now and again. Graham doesn't mind, as he feels "A king needs 'nay' sayers more than he needs 'yea' sayers."
* PungeonMaster: Spouts many puns in ''A Knight To Remember'', mostly involving death scenes.
* TallDarkAndSnarky: Especially in ''King's Quest V'', where [[ his snark occasionally reaches rather vicious levels]].
* ThinkingOutLoud: The ''Companion'' suggests he does this a lot, if his SarcasticDevotee Prime Minster is to be believed.
* WhatsUpKingDude: He actively encourages this.

The daughter of a prince and a farmgirl, who was imprisoned in a tower by an evil witch and eventually rescued by Graham. As a result of her noble background, she tends to be more poised and cultured than her husband, and helps him run the castle and navigate around royal customs. Somewhat more sedate and homebody than the rest of the family, though when Rosella is lost at one point she proves to be a competent adventurer regardless while searching for her. Shares the role of protagonist of ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestVIIThePrincelessBride KQ7]]'' with her daughter Rosella.

-->'''Voiced by:''' Sheryl Bernstein (''VI''), Carol Bach y Rita (''VII'')

* FeminineWomenCanCook: In the ExpandedUniverse, she appears to be a "foodie" and is described as a very good cook.
* GirlInTheTower: Her introduction in ''[=KQ2=]''.
* HappilyMarried
* TheHighQueen: At least until ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestVIIThePrincelessBride KQ7]]'', where she was given a bit more Character Development. She's still much more proper and regal than her ex-soldier husband.
* IWantGrandkids: Spends the first part of ''VideoGame/KingsQuestVIIThePrincelessBride'' trying to marry Rosella off while invoking this trope, despite the fact Alexander just got married in [[VideoGame/KingsQuestVIHeirTodayGoneTomorrow the last game...]] She finally gets her wish in ''VideoGame/KingsQuest2015'', with the introduction of Gwendolyn and Gart.
* KlatchianCoffee: She's famous for making very strong tea.
* MamaBear: Don't mess with her daughter!
* ProperLady: She is never ''unintentionally'' rude.
* RedheadInGreen
* RescueRomance: How she met Graham.
* SilkHidingSteel: She's very much a Proper and Genteel Lady, but, see Mama Bear above.
* UnlimitedWardrobe: In one of the [[TieInNovel Tie-In Novels]], her dress collection is described as taking up ''several entire wings'' of Castle Daventry.
* WomenAreWiser: In the same novel, the fairies give her special treatment over Graham because they consider her more down to earth than her husband. She also handles social matters more adeptly.

The female half of the Royal Twins. Tends to take after her father in personality and her mother in looks. While she generally is well-meaning and accepts her role as potential queen, she does have her moments of being rebellious and a bit bratty. Protagonist of ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestIVThePerilsOfRosella KQ4]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestVIIThePrincelessBride KQ7]]'', but shares the latter role with her mother Valanice.

-->'''Voiced by:''' Diana Wilson (''V''), Sheryl Bernstein (''VI''), Maureen [=McVerry=] (''VII'')

* BadassPrincess
* DamselInDistress: In ''VideoGame/KingsQuestIIIToHeirIsHuman'' and ''VideoGame/TheSilverLining'', though usually she's an ActionGirl.
* DeadpanSnarker: Very much so in ''VideoGame/KingsQuestVIIThePrincelessBride''
* GenkiGirl
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: A bit more spirited than the usual type, perhaps, but she means well and overall is sweet and wholesome enough.
* HumanSacrifice: Almost became one in the third game.
* OdangoHair: In ''VideoGame/TheSilverLining''.
* RebelliousPrincess: She doesn't necessary mind all of being a princess, but she still chafes sometimes at not getting to have adventures and at the prospect of having to get married and be a mother.
* {{Red Oni|BlueOni}}: With Alexander as Blue Oni.
* RoyalBrat: Sometimes, especially in one of the [[TieInNovel Tie-In Novels]].
* TomboyPrincess: She'd rather be romping around having adventures than being a prim princess, and in her youth she often liked playing with sporting equipment and other boyish activities.
* WillTheyOrWontThey: Her ongoing relationship with Edgar is... unusual, to say the least.

The male half of the Royal Twins. Tends to take after his father in looks and his mother in personality. Outwardly calm and well-mannered, but with a core of craftiness, passion, and self-doubt. Also, give him a SpellBook to work from, and he's a dangerously competent sorcerer. Protagonist of ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestIIIToHeirIsHuman KQ3]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestVIHeirTodayGoneTomorrow KQ6]]''.

--> '''Voiced by:''' Barry T. Smith (''V''), Creator/RobbyBenson (''VI'')

* AwesomeMomentOfCrowning: [[spoiler:In ''VideoGame/KingsQuestVIHeirTodayGoneTomorrow''.]]
* BadassBookworm: He may be a calm, quiet, pretty-boy scholar, but that doesn't stop him from being able to [[spoiler:kill a dragon, challenge Death, and hold his own for a time with a giant-ass sword almost too heavy to lift]].
* BeneathTheMask: Despite returning home to a loving family and the rank of prince, [[spoiler: he still thinks of himself as the slave Gwydion, and the "Alexander" identity as a cloak or a mask. He makes concessions to both identities by signing his papers "Alexander-Gwydion"]]
* [[RedOniBlueOni Blue Oni]]: With Rosella as Red Oni.
* {{Brainy Brunet|te}}: The ExtendedUniverse paints him as being almost a straight-up medieval {{Geek}}, if more good-looking and well-mannered than average. He spends a fair bit of time teaching at the Royal University and studying magic, pens several textbooks himself, and the ''Companion'' comments that he holds for Cassima a "passion previously reserved only for books".
* ChangelingFantasy: [[spoiler:The Daventry family is more caring of him than Manannan could ever be.]]
* CluelessChickMagnet: Attracts a number of admirers in the series, including a spider in ''King's Quest VI'', a barmaid in [[spoiler:the FanRemake of ''King's Quest III'']], and a princess in one of the [[TieInNovel Tie-In Novels]], but still worries Cassima won't find him attractive.
* TheComicallySerious: Though he does have a sense of humor, just an extremely dry and subtle one.
* DramaQueen: Or shall we say "Drama ''Prince''"? Alex sure acts like one in ''King's Quest VI'' [[spoiler:while [[FauxDeath feigning suicide]] in front of [[{{Shapeshifting}} Shamir Shamazel]] and the Pawn Shop Owner]].
* GentlemanSnarker: Less overtly snarky than his father, and more subtle and polite with his zingers.
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler:Again, in ''King's Quest VI''.]]
* MadeASlave: [[spoiler:Most of his life was spent this way.]]
* PrettyBoy: Described as handsome and even beautiful regularly, and has plenty of fangirls (and the occasional fanboy) both in-universe and in RealLife.
* PrinceCharming[=/=]TheWisePrince: Zigzagged, as while he does act this way sincerely and has a genuinely kind and gentlemanly personality, [[spoiler:underneath it all he still sees himself as a lowly slave]].
* ScarfOfAsskicking: Sports a nice yellow and blue one in ''King's Quest VI''.
* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: His essays and interviews in the ''Companion'' have this feel to them.
* ShonenHair: In ''VideoGame/TheSilverLining'', to go with Rosella's OdangoHair, it seems.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: A rare unironic example. Emphasis on the tall especially, since he's described as being taller than his father who's already six feet tall to begin with.
* TroubledButCute: Very common in fanworks (and some of the ExpandedUniverse stuff), though [[AvertedTrope not]] [[AngstWhatAngst present]] in the official games.
* UtilityMagic: The only type of magic he's been shown to be able to cast so far, though it does include things like inducing storms. Still [[LethalHarmlessPowers extremely dangerous]] with it anyway.
* WalkingSpoiler: His history [[spoiler:as a slave named Gwydion]] makes him this within the context ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestIIIToHeirIsHuman KQ3]]'', as [[spoiler:it isn't clear he has any kind of connection to the Daventry family until TheReveal when he actually meets them]].

The daughter of Alexander and Cassima and the granddaughter of Graham and Valanice. Every summer she visits Daventry to hear about Graham's many adventures.

* DaddysGirl: It's pretty clear she loves her grandfather and he has a massive influence in her life as her behavior alters depending on whether Graham is being played as brave, wise or compassionate.
* GuileHero: Can take after her grandfather in solving problems through wits or compassion.
* LittleMissBadass: If the player has Graham act brave, then she shows herself able to best her older cousin in a duel with no tricks whatsoever.
* LittleMissSnarker: She's not afraid to break out the snark when her grandfather employs his nefarious puns. She does warm up to them eventually though.
* ShoutOut: Her name is a reference to [[spoiler:Alexander's slave name Gwydion from ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestIIIToHeirIsHuman KQ3]]''.]]
* TomboyPrincess: She's the king's granddaughter and has a knack at dueling and a fascination with stories involving danger and dragons.

The son of Rosella and Edgar and the grandson of Graham and Valanice.

* SmallNameBigEgo: Possibly, which is why he complains to Graham about Gwendolyn entering the fencing tournament.
* SpoiledBrat: Has shades of this, dismissing his grandfather and his stories, as well as being somewhat patronizing to his cousin, Gwen, and doubtful of her skills. However, [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold he does seem to care about his cousin in a big brotherly way]], and [[spoiler:is worried about his grandfather in episode one's ending.]]

[[folder:Love Interests]]
A [[TheFairFolk fairy prince]] who's the son of King Oberon and Queen Titania, but was kidnapped and raised for a long time by the evil witch Lolotte. It was when Rosella came to defeat Lolotte that he met her, and was subsequently rescued and returned to his family. He later met up with Rosella again in ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestVIIThePrincelessBride KQ7]]'' where the two (eventually) marry.

Features in ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestIVThePerilsOfRosella KQ4]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestVIIThePrincelessBride KQ7]]''.

-->'''Voiced by:''' Jesse Moises (''VII'')

* AndNowYouMustMarryMe: Does this to Rosella twice, though once it was Lolotte who invoked it on his behalf and he felt guilty and eventually helped Rosella escape it, and the second time it was [[spoiler:while he was BrainwashedAndCrazy disguised as the Troll King]].
* BalefulPolymorph: Poor guy seems to keep suffering these. First into an ugly green hunchback as Lolotte's "son", then [[spoiler:as a duplicate of the Troll King]].
* BoyNextDoor: While not ''literally'' the boy next door, he nonetheless fits this personality type rather well, coming off as more of an Average Nice Guy than a blueblood even after he gets to go home.
* ChangelingFantasy
* DistressedDude: He just can't seem to stop being kidnapped, poor fellow.
* LetsGetDangerous: He may be more of a NonActionGuy than the rest of the protagonists tend to be, but he'll stand up and be brave when the time calls for it.
* LoveAtFirstSight: He has this for Rosella when they first meet... though it takes her a second (and third, and fourth...) sight to finally consider reciprocating.
* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: What causes him to turn against Lolotte and help Rosella the first time they meet.
* OurFairiesAreDifferent: No wings, and more human-looking than the average fairy in general, even compared to his parents.
* PrinceCharmless: At first, when he's Lolotte's weird son helping her imprison Rosella. But he has a change of heart and turns out to be GoodAllAlong, then Genesta further shows he's BeautifulAllAlong, becoming more of a PrinceCharming (albeit a more dorky one than average).
* ShrinkingViolet: Very quiet and shy to almost {{adorkable}} levels. Particularly when around Rosella, who frequently gives him a bad case of CrushBlush.
* StandardHeroReward: Actually offers ''himself'' as this to Rosella after she helps him escape Lolotte, but she turns him down because she has more pressing concerns at the time. Later on when they meet again he asks her to let him court her instead, and she accepts.
* WillTheyOrWontThey: Never resolved before the series ends, though fans usually go with "they will", particularly in ''VideoGame/TheSilverLining''. All but confirmed with the reveal of their son Gart in ''King's Quest (2015)''.

[[EverythingIsBetterWithPrincesses Princess]] of the Land of the Green Isles, Cassima is first met as a servant girl in Mordack's Castle in ''King's Quest V'', where she meets the Royal Family of Daventry. Alexander [[LoveAtFirstSight is smitten]] and ''King's Quest VI'' involves him journeying to the Land of the Green Isles to see her.

--> '''Voiced by:''' Dianah Pressley (''V''), Stevie Vallance (''VI'')

* AllLovingHero: Both the ferryman and Jollo describe her this way.
* BadassPrincess: While not as action-y as Alexander, she's certainly not afraid to wade into the fray with a dagger.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Will get Graham out of jail if he [[spoiler: returns her golden locket.]]
* DamselInDistress: In ''KQV'', she's trapped by a powerful wizard. In ''KQVI'', she's trapped [[GirlInTheTower in her palace]].
* FriendToAllLivingThings: She even befriends Mordack's monsters.
* TheHighQueen: Becomes this at the end of the ''KQVI''.
* LetsGetDangerous[=/=]SilkHidingSteel: Seemingly a normal PrincessClassic, but is unafraid to use violence in her plans, and will commit such violence herself if need be.
* LoveAtFirstSight: It's implied she was as taken with Alexander from their first meeting as he was with her.
* MsFanservice: In her scullery maid outfit. In ''KQVI'', she's much more covered up.
* NeutralFemale: Cassima brilliantly subverts this in ''KQVI'' [[spoiler: if you slip her Lady Celeste's dagger]].
* PoliticallyActivePrincess[=/=]RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Along with her parents, Cassima often undertook diplomatic relations.
* TheSmartGirl: Jollo and the ferryman both mention that Cassima has a good head on her shoulders, and she does think of a few clever plans.
* UnkemptBeauty: To an extent, in that Alexander falls for her even while she's trapped in Mordack's castle dressed in slave rags and her hair a mess (though she's still wearing makeup for some reason). Of course, the slave attire ''wouldn't'' put Alex off [[spoiler: seeing as the poor kid still thinks of ''himself'' as a lucky slave.]]

[[folder:Big Bads]]
An old EvilSorceror who's the SorcerousOverlord of Llewdor, and lives in a mansion overlooking the country. His nastier habits besides terrorizing Llewdor's citizens involve enslaving young boys to do his chores until they come of age and he disposes of them, and dispatching his adversaries via turning them into housecats. Brother of Mordack, an equally EvilSorceror. He shows up in ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestIIIToHeirIsHuman KQ3]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestVAbsenceMakesTheHeartGoYonder KQ5]]''.

* AnimalMotifs: He's frequently associated with [[CatsAreMean cats]] [[spoiler:and is turned into one by one of his slaves]].
* BalefulPolymorph: Again, what he likes to do to his more powerful opponents [[spoiler:and what eventually happens to him]].
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: He loves dealing with misbehaving slaves and townspeople this way, including things like [[InvoluntaryDance forcing them to do the YMCA dance]] or [[BalefulPolymorph turning them into snails temporarily]].
* DiscOneFinalBoss: Escaping from Manannan only constitutes the first half of ''[[VideoGame/KingsQuestIIIToHeirIsHuman KQ3]]''.
* DisintegratorRay: His other favorite method of dealing with unruly slaves.
* DropInNemesis: Loves doing this to his slaves or any townspeople he feels are out of line, via liberal application of VillainTeleportation.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:One of his slaves turns him into a cat using one of his own spells.]]
* SorcerousOverlord: Noteworthy that he was less elected or born to the position and instead is just powerful enough to be able to play BigBrotherIsWatching and torment anyone who steps out of line.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Even the games themselves manage to be inconsistent about how many [=Ns=] go in his name and where. Almost guaranteed any Let's Player will doof up saying it as a result, whether accidentally or as a purposeful lampshade.
** Even ''VideoGame/KingsQuestV'' and ''VideoGame/KingsQuestIII'' (remake) have different pronunciations. Though one would most assume the former is the correct one since it's WordOfGod.
* WizardClassic: Complete with WizardBeard and RobeAndWizardHat.
* WizardNeedsFoodBadly: And if you're his slave, you'd better be quick about getting it for him.

[[InTheBlood Brother of Manannan]] and main antagonist of [[VideoGame/KingsQuestVAbsenceMakesTheHeartGoYonder KQ5]]. [[MonumentalTheft He steals Castle Daventry]] and shrinks the Royal Family, threatening to feed them to Cat!Manannan if they don't restore him to normal. He has his own IslandBase and plenty of [[OurMonstersAreWeird strange-looking]] {{Mooks}}.

-->'''Voiced by:''' Andy Hoyos

* AnimalMotifs: [[ReptilesAreAbhorrent Serpents]]. Two snake statues guard the entrance of his castle, and two of his forms in the ShapeShifterShowdown include [[ScaledUp a dragon and a snake]].
* DeathByIrony: Was planning to [[InvokedTrope invoke]] this on Alexander by feeding him to the wizard whom he turned into a cat. [[spoiler:Instead, he himself fell victim to this trope when he transformed into [[PlayingWithFire a wall of fire]], only to be doused by Graham's storm spell.]]
* PlayingWithFire: One of his Iconomancy spells is to transform into a wall of fire. [[spoiler:However, [[DeathOrGloryAttack being pure flame instead of a man controlling flame]], [[KillItWithWater he was easily snuffed out by a storm spell]].]] As he would burn out after burning up Graham, this could be seen as a form of TakingYouWithMe.
* ScaledUp: Though it's not his first choice, or his last, he transforms into a snake [[spoiler:after Rabbit!Graham dodged his fireballs as a dragon]]. Of course, he did not realize that [[spoiler:Graham would transform into [[AnimalJingoism a mongoose]]]].
* SorcerousOverlord: Much like his brother.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Through Iconomancy. Besides snakes and fire, he can transform into a majestic dragon and... [[BigCreepyCrawlies a giant dragonfly thing]]. [[spoiler: Once Graham learns Iconomancy, it leads to ShapeShifterShowdown.]]
