Protagonists

    Keisuke Jin

Keisuke Jin/Kamen Rider X

Portrayed by: Ryo Hayami

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krx_keisukejin.png
The titular Kamen Rider X. He was originally the son of cybernetics researcher Keitaro Jin. After being fatally wounded by GOD assassins, his father converted him into X-Rider to save his life.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: He suffers this in Heisei Rider vs. Showa Rider: Kamen Rider Taisen feat. Super Sentai.
  • Badass Biker: Rider X of course.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: SET UP!! Following X's upgrade surgery, DAI HENSHIN!!
  • Cyborg: The previous two Kamen Rider series referred to Riders as kaizo ningen ("modified human"), which has a wider meaning than the usual English rendering "cyborg". This series used the term Kaizorg.
  • Emergency Transformation: Was converted into a cyborg by his father after being fatally shot in order to save his life.
  • Evil Twin: Government Of Darkness Rider (actually a camouflaged monster)
  • Forgotten Phlebotinum: In Episode 2, Jin Keisuke suddenly uses a two-barrel blowdart gun. It takes out some attacking GOD minions and even saves the Kid Of The Week from being lynched. In spite of it looking like the coolest thing ever, it is never seen again.
  • The Hero: He's the main one fighting against G.O.D.
  • Love Hurts: Especially when your fiancĂ© is a member of G.O.D. Even when learning that she was a double spy, Keisuke is later forced to see her die.
  • We Can Rebuild Him: His origin as Kamen Rider X.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Despite their bickering, Keisuke really cherished his father, even seeing his last actions as a noble sacrifice. He constantly strives to make Keitaro proud, especially as Kamen Rider X.
    • To an extent, Keisuke also came to see Tachibana as a father-figure, appreciating his kindness and wisdom.

Tropes exclusive to him as Kamen Rider X

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kr_x_8.png
  • Animal Motif: Like his predecessors, X was based on a grasshopper.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: After X is defeated by Spider-Napoleon, V3 upgrades him. Not only were his powers enhanced, but he also gains a new transformation pose ("Dai Henshin!") and a new finisher, the Vacuum Hell Wheel.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: It even has an X on it!
  • Lightning Bruiser: X-Rider is built to withstand ocean depths of over ten thousand meters. Likewise, his reaction speed allow him to easily avoid gunfire, even in human form.
  • Super Not-Drowning Skills: Subverted. X is made to swim, and has an edge in underwater combat.
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: The Ridol, combination staff/whip/rapier.

    Keitaro Jin

Keitaro Jin

Portrayed by: Jun Tazaki

The father of Keisuke Jin, a scientist targeted by GOD. He's also the one responsible for converting Keisuke into Kamen Rider X.
  • Abusive Parents: Despite what the narrative says, he kinda comes off as this for viewers. Not only did Keitaro shoot a bullet-proof vest wearing Keisuke, but he also essentially commited suicide as the Jin station to make the latter fight as Kamen Rider X.
  • Brain Uploading: Made a backup of his mind in the Jin Station.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: When both he and his son are fatally wounded by GOD soldiers, Keitaro, rather than treat his own wounds, chooses to instead save his son's life by converting him into a cyborg. He later self destructs himself to rid Keisuke of indecision.
  • Minor Major Character: He's the father of X-Rider and the one who converted him into a cyborg in the first place, but he only lasts for two episodes before dying. It's later revealed he was even colleagues with the Big Bad, though little actually comes from this.
    Ryoko and Kiriko Mizuki

Ryoko and Kiriko Mizuki

Portrayed by: Naoko Miyama

Ryoko Mizuki is the girlfriend and fiancee of Keisuke Jin, as well as the lab assistant to his father Keitaro, who is later revealed to be a secret GOD agent. Keisuke later meets her twin sister Kiriko, who is an Interpol agent investigating GOD and appears an ally to him for the first part of the series.
  • Cain and Abel: Ryoko is a spy for GOD, Kiriko is a spy for Interpol. Subverted later when Ryoko is revealed to be an Interpol agent too pretending to be a GOD member.
  • Double Reverse Quadruple Agent: Ryoko is a GOD spy posing as the assistant of Keitaro Jin and is later revealed to actually be a deep cover Interpol agent trying to expose GOD.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: With all the mystery built up around them for the first 7 episodes, they both die rather hastily in #8 and are seldom mentioned again.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: First Kiriko gives her life to block an attack from Atlas from hitting Keisuke, then Ryoko blows her cover to shield a child from Atlas's attack, revealing herself to have been an Interpol agent all along.
    Tobei Tachibana

Tobei Tachibana

Portrayed by: Akiji Kobayashi

The Mentor for Kamen Riders 1, 2, V3, and Riderman, who is now the mentor to X-Rider.
  • Badass Normal: He doesn't have any powers, but he can usually help with fighting the mooks and saving people. In episode 30 he's the one who ends up defeating the leech-people and giving Rider X a lot of salt, their weakness, to coat himself with when facing Leech Dracula.
  • Eccentric Mentor: As eccentric as ever.
  • The Mentor: He guides X in his fight against GOD and makes him aware of the other Riders before him.
    Hayato Ichimonji

Hayato Ichimonji / Kamen Rider 2

The identity of Kamen Rider 2, who fought against Shocker and later Destron. Shows up to assist Keisuke in fighting GOD.
    Shiro Kazami

Shiro Kazami / Kamen Rider V3

The identity of Kamen Rider V3, who fought against Destron. Shows up alongside Ichimonji to assist Keisuke in the fight against GOD.

GOD

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/god_logo.jpg
A secret society formed by opposing countries joining hands behind the scenes to conquer the world.
  • Fun with Acronyms: Government Of Darkness
  • Monster of the Week: First there was the Shinwakaijin/"Mythology Monsters", monsters based on figures from Greek mythology. Around two thirds of the way through, GOD switched to using Akuninkaijin/"Villain Monsters", monsters based on historical figures and fictional characters.
  • Nebulous Evil Organization: Like Shocker and Destron before them, they're an evil organization out to conquer the world.
    GOD General Commander

GOD General Commander

Voiced by: Osamu Saka

A mysterious individual who commands the kaijin of GOD. He leaves orders for his subordinates using tape recordings placed inside various objects.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: As the mysterious leader of an evil organization who gives orders through a voice channel but never appears physically, he's very similar to the Great Leader from Kamen Rider and Kamen Rider V3. As he's voiced by someone other than Gorō Naya, whose voice is iconic to the Great Leader, it would appear that the GOD General is a separate character from the Great Leader.
  • The Voice: The GOD General is heard, but never seen.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: He disappears from the show around half of the way through after Revived Apollo Geist is introduced with no explanation given. Instead, King Dark replaces him as leader of GOD.
    Apollo Geist

Apollo Geist

Portrayed by: Yasuhiko Uchida

Click here to see Apollo Geist's human form
The "Chief of Security" for GOD, the one tasked with eliminating rogue or traitorous members as well as any other threats to the organization.
  • BFG: First he's got a double barreled Machine gun, and he later trades up for a triple barreled one that's attached to his right arm and boy it's friggin powerful.
  • Black Knight: Only in red armor.
  • Breakout Villain: Originally Apollo Geist was going to be replaced by another executive, Black Mars, but he proved popular enough that instead he was brought back as a cyborg. He also reappears as a major villain in Kamen Rider Decade and has appeared in several other Crossover movies since then.
  • The Dragon: As the Security Chief of GOD, it's Geist's job to make sure everything runs smoothly, and his primary task is to eliminate Rider X.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Yasuhiko Uchida makes Apollo Geist a Baritone of Strength, both in and out of his transformation.
  • Grenade Tag: Apollo Geist pulls this one on Rider X with a bomb disguised as his own hand.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: In episode 16, two doctors bring him back from the dead, and when one fails to stop Rider X from escaping, Geist executes him. In episode 21 Geist realizes his new body is breaking down and requires fixing. The surviving doctor informs him that he cannot do the procedure without the scientist that Geist had killed.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Geist's shield is also one of his weapons.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Apart from his white shawl, the only two colors in Apollo Geist's color scheme are black and red.
  • Shield Bash: While he uses his bladed shield as a cutter weapon, Apollo Geist also uses its face as a blunt melee weapon.
  • Took a Level in Badass: When he returns as Revived Apollo Geist, he's much stronger and most of this confrontations with Rider X involves the latter retreating.
  • Villain in a White Suit: His human form is a well dressed man in a white suit.
  • We Can Rebuild Him: After Geist's initial defeat against X-Rider, the General of G.O.D. ordered Geist rebuilt and had him resurrected as Revived Apollo Geist.
  • Worthy Opponent: He regards Keisuke as this to the point where he forces GOD's monsters to disengage because he wants to be the one to end Keisuke. At one point he goes to shake his hand after a defeat only to reveal his hand to be a bomb and attempts to kill them both. Keisuke is impressed by the determination. In his climactic fight, Geist even offers to pay for Keisuke's funeral.
    King Dark

King Dark /Dr. Noroi

Voiced by: Fumio Wada

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/king_dark_ep22.jpg
(SPOILERS)
The leader of GOD, a colossal robot who resides in a system of caves and gives orders to his subordinates hunched over.
  • Ambiguous Situation: King Dark's connection with the General Commander. The two have different voice actors, so it's not clear if the two are separate characters or supposed to be one and the same.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Is giant-sized and even bigger in All Riders vs Dai-Shocker, where Kamen Rider J has to be called in by Diend to take him on.
  • Big Bad: With the defeat of Apollo Geist, King Dark is unveiled in the next episode and stated to be the leader of GOD.
  • Breakout Villain: King Dark might just be one of the best remembered things about X Rider, and is a fairly common pick for villains for Crossover and special events. He even shows up in the Kamen Rider Brave special to revive Takeshi Asakura, though that was a really a hologram projected by a Foundation X member.
  • Humongous Mecha: King Dark is pretty damn big, Kaiju-Sized when standing up.
  • Large and in Charge: He's the ruler of GOD and is titanic in size.
  • The Man Behind the Curtain: Dr. Noroi is fairly unimpressive by himself, and goes down pretty quickly once X-Rider gets inside King Dark.
  • Orcus on His Throne: King Dark spends most of the series with his head propped up on his hand. It get's ridiculous in the final few episodes where he continuously stands up, revealing his true height and going to attack Rider X, only to be back in the same resting-position by the next episode. It gets even more egregious when Noroi is revealed, meaning all of King Dark's moments of just sitting around meant that Noroi himself was just sitting around inside King Dark.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: King Dark has a pair of large glowing red-eyes, that really stand out amongst his primarily grey color-scheme. When he opens them, evil is afoot.
  • Slouch of Villainy: It's his default position. He spends nearly the entire series resting his head on a his hand. Due to his massive size, only Dark's head and arm are visible.
    GOD Warfare Agents
The minions of GOD.
