* TheWorfEffect: As a villain he was the most intimidating and toughest of the Dark Hand enforcers and was usually played more seriously than them but often was defeated to show the strength of Jackie or the threat of the week. This culminates in the season 1 finale where he's ordered to take on Shendu by himself and is easily defeated to establish the dragon's power level. After his HeelFaceTurn he got a RedemptionPromotion and not only learned magic but also was able to get a lot more physical victories under his belt. "Re-Enter the J-Team" in particular throws the J-Team into a tournament and each looses, save for Tohru who takes on and defeats the much larger sumo wrestler, earning his respect.

* CharacterizationMarchesOn: In the first season, Jackie was actually quite serious about stopping the evil forces from taking over the world. He was also easier to anger and more ready to act. The following seasons portray Jackie as the MartialPacifist NiceGuy he's known as.

* Nephewism: Jackie is uniquely on both giving and receiving end of this. He was raised by his uncle since he was 12, why this is or what happened to his own parents was never really stated in the series. When Jade comes to live with him, he is on the giving end of this, treating his niece like his daughter (even though she is officially his first cousin once removed).

* KickChick: When she fights, she tends to perform a flying kick.

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Tohru might have become a whole lot friendlier upon going good, but he can prove himself to still be plenty dangerous, even moreso thanks to Uncle's teachings, should manage to threaten him or his friends.

* BruiserWithASoftCenter: Starting out he's little more than the muscle for the Dark Hand. After his turn to good, it's shown He is actually a sensitive and gentle soul.

* AdventureRebuff: OnceAnEpisode, Jackie will tell her to stay out of the action, and she will ''never'' listen to him. Fortunately, she manages to be pretty useful and avoids being TheLoad or a DistressedDamsel most of the time.

* TheDreaded: Many of his enemies fear him, including (if not especially) the enforcers who have suffered many painful defeats at his hand, to the point where Finn actually was getting nightmares about him. In the criminal underworld, it was even whispered that he was unbeatable.

* WellDoneSonGuy: Tells Jade that all he ever wanted was his mother telling him she's proud of him. When she's introduced, she spends the entire time nagging him, but finally admits that she is indeed proud of her son.
