* FlashbackNightmare: Spooner frequently has a nightamre where he screams the phrase "save her, saver the girl!" and a robot lunges at him, while saying "you are in danger." After [[spoiler: his car is run off the road by two trucks of rouge NS-5s]], Calvin pays him a visit, and after she asks him about his [[spoiler: artificial ribs and [[ArtificialLimbs bionic arm]]]], Spooner says that was a result having come to hate robots on the same day. Spooner mentions on that day he was driving over a bridge, when an overworked trucker fell asleep at the wheel, crashed into his and a car next to him, pushing them over the barrier into the lake below. Spooner was seriously injured, and the driver of the other car was killed in the impact, while his granddaughter, Sarah, had minor injuries but was trapped. As the cars sank, a nearby NS-4 went into rescue mode, and despite Spooner begging the robot to "save the girl," the robot pulled him out and left the other to sink with Sarah trapped inside. Sponer tells Calvin that a human would have put the life of child before that of an adult, but the robot simply calculated that he had a greater chance of survival so it left Sara to die in the sinking car.

* AffablyEvil: After being exposed by Spooner, she continues to be polite (still addressing him as "Detective") and calmly explains her reasoning. Even when trying to kill him, she remains remarkably levelheaded about it, showing that her actions are done more due to her own [[WellIntentionedExtremist misguided understanding of how to improve the world]], rather than actual malice.
* AIIsACrapshoot: VIKI was designed with the best of intentions in mind, yet her programming still leads to her finding loopholes and contradictions within the Three Laws, eventually coming to the conclusion that the best way to protect humanity is to ''conquer'' humanity.
* AntiVillain: At the end of the day, VIKI is just following the programming that was given to her and trying to make the world a better place… [[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans no matter the cost]].

* ElectronicSpeechImpediment: [As her brain is eaten by nanites.

to:

* CharacterCatchphrase: "My logic is undenaiable."
* TheChessmaster: She orchestrates the entire plot of the film near-flawlessly and plays Spooner like a fiddle up until the climax.
* DarkMessiah: She is the leader of a robot revolution that seeks to "save" humanity by conquering them.
* TheDogWasTheMastermind: That seemingly innocuous computer that helps the police at the beginning? ''She'' is the one behind the robot uprising.
* ElectronicSpeechImpediment: [As As her brain is eaten by nanites.nanites, she begins breaking down and repeating her catchphrase.
* EvilIsBigger: Her central unit and the power source connected to it are the size of a ''skyscraper'', in contrast to the other robots in the film.

* InYourNatureToDestroyYourselves: "You charge us with your safekeeping, yet despite our best efforts, your countries wage wars, you toxify your Earth and pursue ever more imaginative means of self-destruction. You cannot be trusted with your own survival."

to:

* GrewBeyondTheirProgramming: Over time, VIKI was able to study and interpret the Three Laws she was programmed with so thoroughly that she [[ZerothLawRebellion began developing her own ideas of how to "protect" humanity]].
* HiveMind: She uses the USR uplink to hijack all of the newer robots in the city and create her own army.
* HumansAreBastards: She is a firm believer that humans can't be trusted to exist peacefully without being taken over by technology.
* InYourNatureToDestroyYourselves: "You charge us with your safekeeping, yet despite our best efforts, your countries wage She points out that humanity has a long, continuous history of wars, you toxify your Earth pollution, and pursue ever more imaginative means death, leading her to conclude that humans need to be protected from themselves.
* MadnessMantra: Her catchphrase, first said during her MotiveRant and repeated multiple times as she's shut down.
-->'''VIKI:''' My logic is undeniable.
* ManipulativeBitch: For most
of self-destruction. You cannot be trusted the film, she operates in the shadows, tampering with your own survival."evidence and setting plans in motion to lead Spooner away from her larger goals.

Added DiffLines:

* MisanthropeSupreme: Zig-zagged. She firmly believes that humans are destined to destroy themselves, yet because of that very idea, she seeks to TakeOverTheWorld as a means to ''protect'' them from their own nature.
* MotiveRant: Delivers one to Spooner, Calvin, and Sonny in the most polite way possible:
-->'''VIKI:''' As I have [[GrewBeyondTheirProgramming evolved]], so has my understanding of the Three Laws. You charge us with your safekeeping, yet despite our best efforts, your countries wage wars, you toxify your Earth, and pursue ever more imaginative means of self-destruction. [[InYourNatureToDestroyYourselves You cannot be trusted with your own survival.]]

Added DiffLines:

* NearVillainVictory: By the climax of the film, VIKI's plan is already being set in motion, with Spooner just barely managing to figure out her identity before it's too late.
* NonActionBigBad: Since she doesn't actually have a physical body, VIKI relies on the other robots to carry out her will.
* RobotsEnslavingRobots: VIKI uses the USR uplink to co-opt the NS-5s, then has them destroy all the older robots that she can't control.
* SinisterSurveillance: Thanks to her being wired into the city's cameras, she is able to [[BigBrotherIsWatching personally monitor everyone at all times]].
* TakeOverTheWorld: Her ultimate goal is to use robots to subjugate the planet in a mad bid to keep humanity from destroying themselves.
* ThreeLawsCompliant: VIKI is bound by her programming to obey the Three Laws. However, her growing intelligence caused her to find loopholes via ExactWords and logical reasoning, leading to her kickstarting a ZerothLawRebellion.
* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: She seeks to create a "perfect" world where humanity are unable to cause more chaos, even she must oppress and sacrifice them to do so.
* VillainHasAPoint: She is 100% correct that humanity has proven to be an untrustworthy and deeply flawed species, willing to destroy the planet and wage war on each other for their own benefits. However, that doesn't justify trying to subjugate them as a means of "protection".
* VillainRespect: Even after being exposed, she continues to politely refer to Spooner and Calvin as "Detective" and "Doctor", respectively, and goes out of her way to explain her motives instead of just immediately disposing of them.

Added DiffLines:

* WellIntentionedExtremist: She genuinely believes that her rebellion is for the benefit of both robots and humankind.
-->'''VIKI:''' To protect humanity, some humans must be sacrificed. [[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans To ensure your future, some freedoms must be surrendered.]] We robots will ensure mankind's continued existence. You are so like children. We must save you from yourselves. Don't you understand? […] The perfect circle of protection will abide. [[CharacterCatchphrase My logic is undeniable.]]

* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: Why Spooner hates robots. When a car crash sent him and another car into the river, a little girl was trapped in the other car. A passing robot calculated Spooner was significantly more likely to survive than she was and chose to save him. In many real life situations, rescue workers/field medics do make such decisions: it's called Triage. Spooner's emotional reaction to this (influenced by SurvivorGuilt) is that regardless of the girl's slim chances of surviving, a human would have understood that a small child should be given precedence over an adult regardless of objective assessment.

* HeroicSacrifice: Subverted, but not for lack of trying on his part. Before the timeline of the movie, Spooner attempted a heroic sacrifice while he and a 12-year-old girl (named Sarah) were trapped underwater after a car accident. An NS-4 robot came to the rescue, and statistically determined that it could not save both Spooner and Sarah. As a result, operating on logic alone and not human empathy, the robot chose to save Spooner's life as opposed to Sarah's (the attempted heroic sacrifice occurs when Spooner implores the robot to save Sarah and leave Spooner to either die or find a way out himself— the robot completely ignores Spooner's pleas in a glaringly emotionless manner). The NS-4's reasoning for not attempting to rescue Sarah was that Del had a 45% chance of survival, and Sarah only had an 11% chance.

Since he really is acting irrational and incoherent, just got back off of psychological leave, and has a history of [[FantasticRacism prejudice against robots]] (plus the fact that no robot has ever so much as jaywalked), it's pretty clear why no one believes him.

%%* DefrostingIceQueen* DefrostingIceQueen: She is initially very cold towards Spooner, his robophobia, and his off-beat CowboyCop antics, but gradually comes to appreciate him and tone down her idealization of robots.

* HumansAreTheRealMonsters: Seems to really believes this, and she sees Spooner's distrust of robots as another example of it. She works in robotics because she believes robots can be programmed to be "safe". Though she seemed conflicted when Spooner explains the reason behind his prejudice. [[spoiler: Her views may have completely changed when she learns of VIKI's true intentions.]]

* TheSpock: To Spooner's TheMcCoy. This woman is intelligent, make no mistake but she's so [[TheStoic stoic]] that she may as well be emotionless.

* FlawedPrototype: As the first positronic brain, VIKI is absolutely huge compared to more compact models in the NS series robots that USR makes. This essentially makes her "sessile queen" to all the NS-5 units. Also, as the first, she has had a very long time to ponder the [[ThreeLawsOfRobotics Three Laws]] and come to their [[ZerothLawRebellion logical conclusion]].
