!!Billy Peltzer
->Played by: '''Zach Galligan'''

TheHero of the films, a young cartoonist who works in Kingston Falls' bank. Receiving Gizmo as a pet from his dad, Billy quickly learns to appreciate the SchmuckBait for caring for him. Things quickly go topsy turvy as the Gremlins rampage through the town with Billy being the only person dealing with the chaos. In the sequel, he works at Daniel Clamp's business tower in New York as a concept artist.

* {{Adorkable}}: He's more than a little awkward when he first asks Kate out, which she clearly finds endearing.
* GenreSavvy: By the end of the first movie he's gotten the hang of how to deal with gremlins quite well. Too bad in both movies the folks in charge are utterly genre blind.
%%* TheHero
%%* HeroesPreferSwords: He uses one briefly.
* MyCarHatesMe: His starter has a tendency to fail on him, and naturally it picks the worst possible time to do it when he arrives to rescue Kate.
* OffWithHisHead: Billy saves his mother from a Gremlin by lopping its head off with an ornamental sword.
* OhCrap: When Stripe leaps into a swimming pool and the giant Gremlin army is created.
* OnlySaneMan: Particularly in the second film.
* SchmuckBait: Billy is told the three rules for taking care of a Mogwai, and to be fair does his best to follow them. They are all still broken sooner or later, though arguably the worst one (getting Gizmo wet) wasn't really Billy's fault.
* StarvingArtist: An aspiring cartoonist, nobody seems interested in his work and he is forced to work a demeaning job as a bank teller. In the sequel, he has managed to land a job as an architectural engineer for the Clamp Center in New York, but he's a cubicle drone and still tends to have his ideas trod on. [[spoiler:Until the end, when Mr. Clamp reveals he likes his idea for a suburban neighborhood based on Kingston Falls.]]
* StrappedToAnOperatingTable: In a parody of ''Film/MarathonMan''.
* TookALevelInBadass: Through the course of the first film, he goes from a normal, mild-mannered American teenager to a Gremlin-killing one-man army.
* YouAreNotReady: Averted in Billy's case, as Mr. Wing proclaims Billy may one day be ready to handle a Mogwai.
* YourCheatingHeart: Averted. He goes with Marla to a restaurant, thinking she wants to discuss business matters. However, once he realizes it's really a ''date'' and she starts trying to play footsie with him under the table, he politely excuses himself. It doesn't stop Kate from suspecting he had an affair with Marla. [[spoiler:Until the end anyway.]]

!!Kate Beringer
->Played by: '''Phoebe Cates'''

Billy's love interest. She works at the bank with Billy, but also part-time at a bar which is invaded by the Gremlins for a wild night out. In the sequel, she is living with Billy and works as a tour guide in Daniel Clamp's business tower.

* BadJobWorseUniform: Has to wear a hat with a long model of the building coming out of it as a tour guide.
* BrokenBird: Downplayed. Kate's got some baggage, but doesn't let it interfere with her life (usually). Nor does it prevent her from standing up to the Gremlins numerous times in both films.
%%* TheChick
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Hates Christmas, [[spoiler: due to her father's death during an attempt to come down a chimney dressed as Santa.]] She also mentions an incident in the second film where she was flashed by a man resembling Abraham Lincoln.
%%* GirlNextDoor
* GroinKick: Attacks a flashing Gremlin in the second film, perhaps as a TakeThat to a similar incident in the first film, and to her dark past.
%%* LoveInterest
%%* WhyDoYouKeepChangingJobs

!!Randall "Rand" Peltzer
->Played by: '''Hoyt Axton'''

Billy's father. An intelligent, yet BunglingInventor. He makes good gadgets but they usually break down a week or two after he finishes them. He buys Gizmo as a pet for Billy.

* BunglingInventor: His inventions break down a lot.
* NiceGuy: He's a good father.
* OutOfFocus: Introduced as a major character but then takes a backseat as he heads out of town to attend an inventor's fair, but returns at the end of the film to see Stripe's death.
%%* SchmuckBait
%%* TheSmartGuy
%%* YouAreNotReady

!!Lynn Peltzer
->Played by: '''Frances Lee [=McCain=]'''

Billy's mother and Randall's wife. While usually a kind housewife, Lynn goes badass when she realises the Gremlins are loose in house and manages to kill three of them when they invade her kitchen.

* ActionMom: Manages to kill three Gremlins by herself!
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Don't mess with her kitchen. Three Gremlins learn this the hard way as they each experience violent deaths - one is chopped up in the blender, [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice the second is stabbed to death]], and the third is [[FamilyUnfriendlyDeath blown up in the microwave!]]
* KnifeNut: Kills Gremlins with knives.

!!Mr. Wing
A mysterious AsianStoreOwner who is the owner of Gizmo. Likely from experience, he believes Mogwai must be carefully looked after and that the western world is not ready for such a responsibility.

%%* AsianStoreOwner
* BigGood: Of the films, he is one who knows about the Mogwai and the danger of it if one does not follow the rules.
* GrumpyOldMan: He is furious when he confronts Rand at the end of the first film, but makes peace with him upon leaving and accepts a unique ashtray from Rand as a parting gift.
%%* MentorArchetype
* SuddenSequelDeathSyndrome: He dies early on in the sequel, which allows Clamp to construct a mall over his store.
%%* YouAreNotReady
* YouNoTakeCandle: His English starts off bad but it becomes good by the end of the film.

!!Murray Futterman
Billy's neighbor, Murray Futterman often is seen GripingAboutGremlins and is very proud of his snowplough. He and his wife are attacked by Gremlins when they steal his snowplough. they reappear in ''Gremlins 2'' as New York tourists.

%%* AscendedExtra
%%* BadassGrandpa
%%* BadassNormal
* CassandraTruth: He often [[GripingAboutGremlins griped about Gremlins]] and no one believed him seeing him as some drunken loon, however he was totally right.
%%* CrankyNeighbor
%%* GripingAboutGremlins
* TookALevelInBadass: Was just another victim of the Gremlins' ComedicSociopathy in the first film. In the second he is pivotal in stopping the invasion and even takes out a few of them single handedly.

!!Mrs. Ruby Deagle
->Played by: '''Polly Holliday'''

Before the Gremlins rip apart Kingston Falls, Mrs. Deagle ruled the roost. A wicked old devil woman, Mrs. Deagle is a RichBitch willing to bring misery to everyone in town as long as she gets [[MoneyDearBoy her money.]] She particularly has a grudge against the Peltzers.

* AssholeVictim: [[spoiler: To the point she even thought the Gremlins were demons finally come to take her away.]]
* BigBadWannabe: Is designated as the initial threat towards Kingston Falls, however she is usurped by the Gremlins.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Deagle is technically a businesswoman due to her immense wealth and being an abhorrent RichBitch.
* CrazyCatLady: Mrs. Deagle's cats are named after different kinds of currency.
* {{Expy}}: Is essentially the movie's answer to Miss Gulch from ''Film/TheWizardOfOz''.
* HateSink: Basically you want to cheer when [[spoiler:she flies out of her second story window thanks to the Gremlins.]]
* KickTheDog: She loves tormenting the townsfolk. The first thing we see her doing in the movie is smugly denying an extension to a poor single mother, and the second thing is threatening to take Billy's dog and throw him into her clothes dryer for [[DisproportionateRetribution breaking her snowman decoration]].
** DeletedScenes showed that she was planning to tear down people's home to put up a strip mall, and the novelization said that she was going to sell the town's land to a company called "[[ObviouslyEvil HiTox]]", which implied she was gonna turn the whole place into a toxic waste dump.
* {{Jerkass}}: She's greedy, wants to kill Billy's dog, and refuses to give money to the homeless.
* ManipulativeBitch: Plays WoundedGazelleGambit on Billy's boss after Barney pounces onto her, making him look even more like a menace.
* [[PetTheDog Pet The Cat]]: Compared to her obsessive contempt for Barney, she dotes over her numerous cats and lets them run wild in her home.
* RichBitch: One of the most wealthy and powerful civilians in Kingston Falls, to almost everyone's ire.
* SuperWindowJump: [[spoiler: Mrs. Deagle meets her well-deserved end when a Gremlin breaks her stair lift, causing it to rocket up the stairs and send Mrs. Deagle flying out of a window to her death.]]
* VillainousBreakdown: She loses it after the Gremlins attack her home, convinced they're there to [[DraggedOffToHell drag her to Hell.]]
-->'''Deagle:''' I'm not ''ready''!!!

!!Kingston Falls Citizens

%%* BlackGuyDiesFirst: [[spoiler: Mr. Hanson]]
%%* ChekhovsGunman: Pete.
* CoolTeacher: Mr. Hanson, Billy's science teacher who is given the Gremlin named Earl to study.
%%* PoliceAreUseless

!!Daniel Clamp
->Played by: '''John Glover'''
An eccentric corporate manager who works in New York. He runs a completely automatically-powered skyscraper, hates black and white films, and wants to make the world a better place through good-intentioned projects.

* BenevolentBoss[=/=]PointyHairedBoss: A rare mix of both. He's a likeable, well meaning guy that's affable to his employees, but somewhat clueless and entrusts the less scrupulous Forster to run most of the company.
* BigGood: Of the second film.
%%* BunnyEarsLawyer
* CloudCuckooLander: His wide eyed ideals and very whimsical demeanour lean him as such.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Subverted. Early on, Clamp is portrayed as being this from the views of other characters but when he shows up he turns out to be a nice, easygoing guy who is easily inspired and quickly befriends most of the people he meets.
* CrazyPrepared: Clamp has a video ready to play on his cable network in case the end of the world comes, inspired by a video Joe Dante found whilst visiting Creator/{{CNN}}.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Ask the Gremlin he shoves down his office shredder.
** When SWAT storms the building in a desperate attempt to kill the Gremlins before they can go outside into the rain, he's the first to charge in with an assault rifle.
%%* EccentricMillionaire
* {{Foil}}: To Mrs. Ruby Deagle from from the first film, both of them are wealthy businesspeople, however, while Mrs. Deagle is a RichBitch {{Jerkass}} and a BigBadWannabe, Clamp is a NiceGuy and the sequel's BigGood.
* FrontlineGeneral: He coordinates the authorities's efforts to contain the Gremlin threat, and is the first to run in armed when they decide to storm the building.
* NiceGuy: A rich nutcase, yes; but a rich nutcase who wants to make the world a kinder and gentler place.
* NiceToTheWaiter: He's polite and respectful to everyone he meets.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: A mixture of Creator/DonaldTrump and Ted Turner.
* PairTheSpares: Implied with Marla.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Being a BunnyEarsLawyer and his desire to create innovations for his company makes him stand in for Billy's BunglingInventor father Randall "Rand" Peltzer from the first film.

!!Frank Forster
Daniel Clamp's assistant and chief of security.
->Played by: '''Robert Picardo'''

* AllThereInTheManual: His first name is given in the novelization by David Bischoff.
* BadBoss: Fires and publicly humiliates an elderly employee for taking an unauthorized smoke break. He even [[KickTheDog Kicks The Dog]], too, by revoking the poor guy's medical benefits.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: He's more of this trope than Clamp.
* DullSurprise / TheStoic: Mohawk's attack on the control room doesn't get much reaction out of him. Neither does witnessing the carnage in the Splice O' Life lab - he merely complains that Catheter has failed to keep proper order. [[AbhorrentAdmirer Greta]] [[NotSoStoic on the other hand]]...
* {{Jerkass}}: Even when it turns out Billy is right about the Gremlins, he won't stop being a complete cad.
* SatelliteCharacter: He has a few button-pushers and one guy always follows him around with amounts to a primitive 90s laptop and is credited simply as "Forster's Assistant."
* SuperOCD: Implied by some of his behavior, such as his obsessive desire for orderliness and strict adherence to rules and schedules. And in one DeletedScene, he's seen meticulously arranging every single little thing on his desk to the ''centimeter''.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: For being Billy's co-worker who bosses him around and belittles him, while trying to brownnose his boss, he is this of Gerald. He can be also of Mrs. Deagle for being a CorruptCorporateExecutive.

!!Marla Bloodstone
Billy's office supervisor at the Clamp Center.

* TheLoad: When Billy is assigning tasks for his companions to take out the Gremlins, he simply tells Marla to smoke.
* {{Meganekko}}: Though [[TheGlassesGottaGo her glasses were gone]] by the end of the film.
* PairTheSpares: Very heavily suggested with Clamp at the end.

!!Grandpa Fred
The host of a horror movie show that's filmed in the Clamp Center's studio.

* CoolOldGuy: He's elderly (or at least middle-aged) and takes it upon himself to report on the Gremlin attack from inside the building, and even lands an interview with the Brain Gremlin.
* EveryoneHasStandards: He doesn't seem terribly concerned about the Gremlins beyond mild annoyance - until the Brain Gremlin shoots another Gremlin [[ItAmusedMe for fun]], at which point Fred gets up and walks out of the interview, visibly disgusted (and at least a little scared).
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Inspired by Al Lewis of ''Series/TheMunsters'' fame.

!!Mr. Katsuji
A photographer in one of Kate's tour groups. Following the Gremlin attack, Grandpa Fred enlists him to be his cameraman.

* CameraFiend: He's laden with several different types of cameras and constantly taking pictures. When Fred asks him if he knows how to use a camera, Katsuji [[{{Squee}} squees]] "I ''am'' a camera!"
* JapaneseTourist: Pretty much one of the defining examples of this trope.

!!Dr. Cushing Catheter
A scientist in the employ of Clamp, he runs the Splice O' Life genetics laboratory where he performs a wide variety of very strange experiments. And when his assistants capture Gizmo, he is of course ''very'' interested in knowing what makes the little Mogwai tick.

* AllThereInTheManual: His first name is given in the novelization by David Bischoff. That said, his name tag in the film reads "''K''. Catheter."
* CollectorOfTheStrange: He receives vials of rabies in the mail, has malaria on back order, and at one point returns from an errand carrying one of the alien pods from ''Film/InvasionOfTheBodySnatchers''.
* CrazyPrepared: How else to explain why he keeps "small assault weapons" (specifically a MAC-10 which Mohawk gets ahold of) in a locked cupboard in his lab? Gotta be prepared for those mutant test subject uprisings!
* [[spoiler: DiesWideOpen]]: [[spoiler: After getting electrocuted by the Lightning Gargoyle.]]
* ForScience: With a few exceptions, almost all of he stuff done at Splice O' Life seems to be weird experiments for the sake of weird experiments.
* MadScientist: Catheter has some traits of one, although he's very darkly subdued and laid back example.
* NightmareFetishist: He seems a little ''too'' eager for that vial of malaria he's been expecting in the mail. "All a man wants is some fresh germs!"
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: [[spoiler:Right after he realizes animal experimentation is unethical (because he believes the Gremlins are some sort of retribution for what he's done), he dies attempting to assist Billy.]]
* ShoutOut: His first name is ''definitely'' Bischoff's shout out to Christopher Lee's old acting buddy Peter Cushing.

[[folder:Mogwai and Gremlins]]
!!! Voiced by: Howie Mandel

A RidiculouslyCuteCritter, Gizmo is a friendly Mogwai who Rand buys from Mr. Wing (or his nephew) to give to Billy as a pet. Completely peaceful and friendly, Gizmo is accidentally splashed with water and spawns a batch of Gremlins leading to the chaos around Kingston Falls.

* BadassAdorable: It is he, not Billy that defeats Stripe and Mohawk in both films.
* BreakoutCharacter: Invoked, after a fashion. In the shooting script (which was the result of many other drafts from the original script), Gizmo and Stripe were the same character. Steven Spielberg thought Gizmo was too cute to turn into a monster, so insisted that Gizmo and Stripe be different characters and Gizmo remain his cute and cuddly self through the entire film. Once the studio executives saw Gizmo in the film for the first time, they began to realize they'd have a [[TheMerch merchandising dream on their hands.]]
* ButtMonkey: The other Mogwais engage him in slapstick torture in both films. They take this UpToEleven when they evolve into Gremlins.
* CatchPhrase: "Bright light" in the first movie.
* CuteButCacophonic: When he screams.
* TheDogBitesBack: Gizmo gets fed up of Mohawk's abuse in the second film, and goes {{Rambo}} on his enemy.
* ExplosiveBreeder: He hates breeding other Mogwai, and not simply due to the excruciating process.
%%* KillerRabbit
* TheLancer: To Billy.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Gizmo sings a lovely melody that has become the film's theme.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: He's painfully, tragically aware of what he is and what can easily happen simply because he exists.
* OhCrap: Happens in both films when Gizmo gets wet. Specifically, in the first film, his weary sigh and depressed shaking his head after the five new Mogwai emerge. You can just tell he knows what's about to happen.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Just look at him! He's adorable!
* TelevisionIsTryingToKillUs: Averted. Gizmo has shown to like TV in the sequel, much to Mr. Wing's frustration. After the Gremlin threat is finally gone, Gizmo begins chanting the names of various cable networks such as MTV and HBO.
* TokenHeroicOrc: The most humble of the Mogwai.
* TookALevelInBadass: In the sequel, when he decides to go Rambo on Mohawk.
* WeakenedByTheLight: Like all Mogwai and Gremlins, bright light is very painful for Gizmo, and direct sunlight will kill him.
* WhiteSheep: Gizmo is among few "Eternal" Mogwais with a good natured personality, all others are mischievous at best or sadistic and hell bent on evolving into Gremlins at worst.

!!Stripe / Mohawk
!!!Voiced by: Creator/FrankWelker

Defacto leader of the Gremlins, Stripe is a sadistic, maniacal monster who enjoys carnage and torturing Gizmo. He is killed thanks to Gizmo, but comes BackFromTheDead in ''Gremlins 2'' as Mohawk, and [[spoiler: downs a chemical that turns him into a half Gremlin, half spider monster, but is killed by Gizmo for the last time.]]

%%* AlwaysChaoticEvil
* AxCrazy: While all the Gremlins are more or less like this they're actually more some kind of tricksters and pranksters. Stripe is the only one who is more willing to commit murder. As Mohawk this only get worse.
* [[spoiler: BackFromTheDead: In a sort of way in the sequel, Mohawk is a reincarnation of sorts of Stripe.]]
* BigBad: Stripe was this. Mohawk is more a lone wolf, though still the most sadistic and evil of the Gremlins and one of the most prominent and dangerous.
* CameBackStrong: Mohawk is the reincarnation of Stripe, bent on avenging his death against Gizmo. To this end, he's especially vicious, even compared to Stripe. The reincarnation angle is downplayed in the movie, but the mohawk and catchphrase are sufficient to pick up on the idea.
* CatchPhrase: Gizmo, ca-ca!
* {{Determinator}}: Stripe is a resilient bastard in the first film, taking every measure to keep his species alive and rampant. This is diminished for Mohawk however, to the point he plays no part in their spawning whatsoever.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: Brain Gremlin takes the position of BigBad in the sequel while Mohawk becomes this.
* EightiesHair: A tuft of white hair in the first film, and a mohawk-shaped fin in the second, hence his names.
* EvilCounterpart: To Gizmo. Unlike him he's not only frightening but also pure evil.
%%* EvilLaugh
%%* ExplosiveBreeder
* [[spoiler: FamilyUnfriendlyDeath: In both films his death is the most graphic and unpleasant.]]
%%* ForTheEvulz
* GeneticMemory: Clearly remembers Gizmo when he comes back from the grave.
%%* GiantSpider
* ImMelting: [[spoiler: The most horrific case of this in the first film.]]
%%* HybridMonster
* KickTheDog: Oh, and he enjoys doing this to Gizmo and Billy.
* KnightOfCerebus: ComedicSociopathy towards Gizmo aside, he is the most genuinely sinister and menacing of the Gremlin batch. While a demoted villain in the second film, he is still far more intimidating than the LaughablyEvil BigBad Brain (even his Mogwai form looks the part).
%%* KillItWithFire
%%* LaughingMad
* MetamorphosisMonster: Him and the rest of the Gremlins.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: His white tuft of hair in the first fim distinguishes him from the other gremlins. In the sequel, as a mogwai, he has his tuft of hair, black spots on his fur and sharp teeth. As a gremlin, he has a lionfish-like fin across his back, a wattle and his skin and overall appearance are much more scaly and reptilian.
* OutOfFocus: Becomes this in the second film, which shows brief intercuts of him torturing Gizmo and then randomly runs off to shoot at Billy.
* OneWingedAngel: Twice: First, his transformation from Mogwai to Gremlin in both films and his [[spoiler: mutant spider-hybrid form]]
* PapaWolf: For what it's worth, Stripe seems to genuinely care about his brethren and preserving his species. [[ComedicSociopathy (When he's not shooting them dead]] [[DisproportionateRetribution for cheating at cards.)]] This vague redeeming aspect is lost with Mohawk.
* {{Sadist}}: He surely loves hurting and/or killing even more than the other Gremlins.
* SpikesOfVillainy: As Mohawk.
* [[spoiler: SpiderPeople: Mohawk after taking some spider mutagen chemicals.]]
* TransformationTrauma: Stripe spawning more Gremlins whilst dying in the first film is pretty gross.
%%* VileVillainSaccharineShow
* VillainDecay: Stripe was truly evil and fiendish, and wanted to take over the whole town of Kingston Falls with his gremlin army. He was also much more intelligent. Mohawk, on the other hand, while much more fiendish and wicked when it comes to torturing Gizmo, is not as intelligent as his original self and is more focused on creating chaos and havoc on his own, acting as a lone wolf and leaving his brethren to take over the spawning and invasion.
%%* WeakenedByTheLight

!!Brain Gremlin
!!!Voiced by: Tony Randall

A brown Gremlin who was merely part of the horde,he drank a brain hormones serum which greatly increased his intelligence and made him able to talk,thus making him the new leader,and the new BigBad and TrueFinalBoss of the second movie.

* AffablyEvil: He's quite polite, charming and well-spoken -- his stated goal is to make the Gremlins civilized. He's still a malicious creature who finds murder and street crime hilarious.
* AlasPoorVillain: WordOfGod says his death is meant to be viewed this way.
* BadassInANiceSuit: He wears a few well-tailored business suits throughout the from. Exactly ''where'' he found clothing that fit him is unexplained.
* BigBad: In the second movie he eventually leads the Gremlins to invade New York City after getting a MookPromotion.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Seriously believes the only difference between Broadway musicals and street crime is that the latter can be watched for free.
* DistinguishedGentlemansPipe: Smokes one as part of his WickedCultured image.
* EvilLaugh: While he never actually laughs in the final film, he provides quite a few good ones in the promotional VHS ads for the movie.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: See MookPromotion below.
* GoKartingWithBowser: Engages in a rather civil TV interview with Fred midway through the Gremlins' rampage, pausing only to randomly shoot one of his annoying brethren.
* ItAmusedMe: Like most Gremlins who are not Stripe / Mohawk, he is more amoral and mischevious than sadistic and while he thinks shooting another Gremlin is fun, he doesn't think there is anything ''wrong'' with it (other than it being "in no sense civilised").
* MookPromotion: Started off as a nameless Gremlin then got a chemical and replaced Mohawk as the BigBad.
* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: He uses a ''lot'' of big words.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: After he drinks the brain hormone and goes through his convulsions, a pair of glasses inexplicably appear on his face.
* WickedCultured: He's an intellectual who appreciates the finer things of human culture... and he'll happily kill another of his kind for fun.
%%* TrueFinalBoss

A light green Gremlin that is extremely hyperactive in the manner of the older versions of WesternAnimation/DaffyDuck.

* AdaptationalHeroism: In the video game ''Gremlins: Gizmo'' Daffy is an "Eternal" Mogwai you can care for like Gizmo.
* AllThereInTheScript: His name is revealed in official merchandise.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: He's definitely crazier than the average Gremlin.
* DepravedDentist: Assumes the role of one when he straps Billy in a parody of ''Marathon Man''.
* ExplosiveBreeder: When he gets wet in the cooking show set, he provides the template for the lighter green colored Gremlins in the second movie.
* LaughingMad: Even by his species' standard.
* NonMammalianHair: When he becomes a Gremlin, he has a few yellow strands of hair.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: He, George and Lenny are much more cartoony than the other gremlins.
* PinballProjectile: When he pops out of Gizmo as a Mogwai, he bounces around like a pinball unlike the others.
* ShoutOut: He is named and based off the earlier ScrewySquirrel versions of Daffy Duck.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Apart from some FreezeFrameBonus scenes with him in the background with the other Gremlins in the latter part of the movie, it isn't shown if he died via electrocution along with the other Gremlins. A deleted scene however shows that he indeed died along with the rest.

A extremely grouchy-looking Gremlin that is often accompanied with his fellow Gremlin Lenny.

* AllThereInTheScript: His name is revealed in official merchandise.
* CigarChomper: When he becomes a Gremlin, he is often seen smoking a cigar.
* ButtMonkey: He tends to suffer hilarious injuries at the hands of his stupider cohorts, such as Lenny hitting him with the heat register and accidentally throwing a pot at his head. In a DeletedScene, when the three of them are part of the Gremlin orchestra, Lenny hits him with his trombone and Daffy bangs his head between his cymbals.
* ExplosiveBreeder: When he gets wet in the cooking show set, he provides the template for the darker green colored Gremlins in the second movie.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: He, Daffy and Lenny are much more cartoony than the other gremlins.
* TheStoic: He is not as crazy as the other Gremlins.
* OnlySaneMan: When grouped together with Daffy and Lenny, he is the only sane one among the three.
* PerpetualFrowner: See his character image? It doesn't change the entire film. Add in some sneers and growls and you get the point.
* ShoutOut: His face is modeled after Edward G. Robinson. His name and behavior are a reference to George from ''Literature/OfMiceAndMen''.
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Lenny.

A buck-toothed Gremlin that is often accompanied with his fellow Gremlin George.

* AdaptationalHeroism: Like Daffy, in the video game ''Gremlins: Gizmo", Lenny is an "Eternal" Mogwai you can care for like Gizmo.
* AllThereInTheScript: His name is revealed in official merchandise.
* TheDitz: He is noticeably dumber and goofier than the other Gremlins.
* DumbIsGood: Apparently in an early script, Lenny was supposed to have a HeelFaceTurn. In the final film he remains a villain, but still arguably the least malicious of the lot. ''Gremlins: Gizmo'' seemed to run with the former, see above.
* ExplosiveBreeder: When he gets wet in the cooking show set, he provides the template for the brown colored Gremlins in the second movie.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: He, George and Daffy are much more cartoony than the other gremlins.
* FangsAreEvil: Averted. He has two prominent buck-teeth instead of fangs like the other Gremlins.
* ShoutOut: His name and behavior are a reference to Lenny from ''Literature/OfMiceAndMen''. His voice, buckteeth and laugh are also references to Goofy
* ThoseTwoGuys: With George.
%%* TooDumbToLive
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Apart from some FreezeFrameBonus scenes with him in the background with the other Gremlins in the latter part of the movie, it isn't shown if he died via electrocution along with the other Gremlins. A deleted scene however shows that he indeed died along with the rest.

!! Greta

A Gremlin who drank a serum that changed his gender and turned him female. She is the [[spoiler:only surviving gremlin after all of them were killed in the climax.]]

* AbhorrentAdmirer: Towards Forster.
* AnimalGenderBender: After taking a chemical, he became female.
* CoveredInKisses: Does this to Forster. Twice
%%* CuteMonsterGirl
* InterspeciesRomance: Is madly in love with Forster. [[spoiler:She gets to marry him at the end]]
* LastOfHerKind: She is the only surviving gremlin after all the other ones were wiped out.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Being the only female, most gremlins try to hit on her, but she seems to be only interested in Forster.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Possibly {{Downplayed}}, {{Subverted}} or even ZigZagged since she doesn't really do anything evil, at least after [[AnimalGenderBender becoming a female]].
