The Seventh Master, with the title of Princes. The heir to the Sajyou household, her father Hiroki and older sister of both Manaka died in the previous Holy Grail War and she now lives by herself. She suffers from low self-esteem and low talent in her family's magic. Summons the Servant Saber after being attacked by Lancer.Ayaka.

* AnimalMotifs: Crows as befitting her image as a witch. She's described as being close with them and even uses black feathers as a method of attack.
* AdaptationDyeJob: Her eyes were originally black in her original design by Takeuchi, but were eventually changed to blue come ''Fate/Prototype'' proper.
* BeautifulAllAlong: Though normally considered plain looking which is compounded by her meek behavior outside her home, Ayaka without her glasses is described as being more beautiful than all of Uruk's women combined by Archer and even catches Saber's attention too. She's also somewhat curvy for her age which becomes apparent when she wears her Rat Witch attire or her has towel on while bathing in a hot spring.
* BigLittleSister: Averted in the past where Manaka was reasonably taller than Ayaka when the latter was still a child, but played straight in the present due to Manaka retaining her youthful appearance as a 14-year-old from ''Fragments'' after her mysterious revival in the main ''Prototype'' storyline eight years later.
* BigSisterWorship: She admired her sister when she was a young child. [[spoiler:Unfortunately for her, their relationship goes south when Manaka tries to kill her out of jealousy because she happened to have a talk with Saber that results in the latter abandoning his wish for the grail.]]
* BloodMagic: Her family's magecraft includes sacrificing small animals like birds as part of their rituals. However, since Ayaka is unable to bring herself to do it, she instead makes due with using her own blood instead.
* BreakTheCutie: Poor little Ayaka ends up being horribly traumatized by the end of ''Fragments'' courtesy of her evil older sister's actions. What was once a bright and optimistic child ends up becoming a very pessimistic and dour young woman years after as a result.
* ButNotTooForeign: It's mentioned in the prequel series that she and Manaka are actually half-British through their mother.
* CainAndAbel: The Abel to Manaka's Cain.
* TheCameo: First appeared in a [[AllThereInTheManual material book]] known as "Character Material", and also made an appearance in a {{Yonkoma}} SpinOff called ''Fate/school life''
* CowardlyLion: Despite seeing herself as weak, she's actually surprisingly strong-willed. Before she accidentally summoned Saber, she was willing to fight to defend herself from Lancer, even if it was ultimately futile.
** In the Hanafuda scenario for Team Prototype, Ayaka admits that it's not fighting that she's afraid of, it's just going through scary experiences. The scenario shows as such, as despite the opponents she and her team go up against, Ayaka was actually fully confident in her team's ability to beat them, with only her sister Manaka making her doubt their chances. This fact actually unnerves Saber, Archer, and Lancer.
* CuteWitch: Ayaka is a cute girl who has a classical witch vibe going for her due to her family's practices and use of magic that's considered old even among mages. She even dresses up as rat themed Witch in the 2013 Type-Moon April Fools event.
* DecompositeCharacter: Not her specifically, but Ayaka's character would go on to eventually serve as the general basis for Shirou, Rin, and Sakura in ''Fate/stay night'' with many elements from her character going on to be split between all three.
* DudeMagnet: Something Shirou and Rin would [[ChickMagnet definitely]] [[DudeMagnet inherit]]. She has [[ShipTease moments]] with Saber, Archer, Lancer, and Rider, with Archer being the one who's most blatantly in love with her. Hilariously lampshaded by [[VisualNovel/{{Tsukihime}} Ciel]] much to [[ButtMonkey Satsuki's]] envy in Type-Moon's 2013 April Fools' event.
-->'''Ciel:''' You know she's got herself a harem of not one but three hot guys at her beck and call, right?\\
'''Satsuki:''' [[SeriousBusiness SHE HAS TO DIE.]]
* FeatherMotif: Her crow feathers that she used for offensive spells, and that she bears a Command Seal that resembles a single feather.
* ForgottenFirstMeeting: She met and even spoke with Saber during the events of ''Fragments'' but doesn't remember him in the present day.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: She's friendly towards animals. She even befriends and talks to the crows she's supposed to be sacrificing every morning under her father's order, to the point that she's unwilling to kill them.
* TheGlassesComeOff: Whenever Ayaka does this, not only does her appearance change (with her hair and eyes growing brighter as if they were glowing), but her personality will also shift from being her generally weak, and very meek self, to being a more assertive, and outright aggressive person overall, a personality that's reminiscent of Rin's.
* GreenThumb: To be expected given that she's been taking care of her mother's greenhouse since she was a kid.
* HealingFactor: Like Shirou, Ayaka shows signs of having this. It's first demonstrated when Lancer attacks her in the Sajyou home. Despite having been stabbed in the heart, there are no signs of a wound and even Ayaka's clothes looks completely undamaged once she summons Saber which might imply she has Avalon. [[spoiler:''Fragments of Sky Silver'' confirms that this is indeed the case, as Avalon was the catalyst that Manaka had used to summon Saber. Near the end of the story, Saber would pass it on to Manaka's father Hiroki who would then give it to Ayaka in hopes of protecting her. This also would later allow Ayaka to summon Saber again by the time of ''Fate/Prototype''.]]
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Has very low self-esteem and thinks of herself as someone plainly average, something she considers as a flaw. Manaka [[KickTheDog pointing out to her]] that she's just a painfully ordinary person with only enough value as an ingredient for the Beast she was about to feed her younger sister to at the end of ''Fragments'' likely helped contribute to it in the present day.
* HiddenBuxom: As seen in Team Prototype's [[HotSpringsEpisode Hanafuda Scenario]] of the 2012 re-release of ''Fate/stay night Realta Nua'', Ayaka's clothes do a good job of hiding how secretly [[https://i.imgur.com/Mvil2Mn.jpg stacked she is underneath]]. Her [[AprilFools Chapter Heroine Sanctuary costume]] [[http://i.imgur.com/s92F4Sh.jpg also speaks for]] [[http://i.imgur.com/weZ6OL9.jpg itself as well]].
* IdenticalStranger:
** During their first encounter in ''Fragments of Sky Silver'', Saber once mistook a young Ayaka for Vivian, better known as the Lady of the Lake from Arthurian Mythology, and it's hinted from Saber's own words that Ayaka and Vivian greatly resemble each other.
** In the alternate timeline of ''Literature/FateStrangeFake'', there exists a character named Ayaka Sajyou who looks identical to Proto-Ayaka in all aspects except for her hair color which is blonde. Though initially assumed to be her counterpart in another timeline, it's later revealed that there exists ''another Ayaka Sajyou'' who is currently in Romania and also a student of Waver's as well.
* IJustWantToBeSpecial: She thinks that being average is a flaw. Considering her older sister was an extremely talented magus at a young age, it's not hard to see where she's coming from.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Best shown when she was a [[ChildrenAreInnocent child]] during the events of ''Fragments''.
* LadyAndKnight: The Lady to Saber's Knight. To a lesser extent, she's also this with Archer and Lancer. Their team name in the Hanafuda minigame of ''Realta Nua 2012'' is even called "Miss Ayaka and her Three Knights".
* LargeHam: In the Christmas DramaCD at least, as a consequence of her being the only [[StraightMan straight woman]] there. It must be heard to be believed.
* MagicStaff: After Saber is stolen from her by Sancraid Phahn, she decides to pull one out from her family's storage in her bid to rescue him and to take down Sancraid.
* MagikarpPower: She is unskilled in her family's native magic, but on Saber's suggestion she tries Formalcraft (which she describes as "thaumaturgy for dummies"). She finds that she has a natural talent for it, though what exactly that entails is left unclear.
* {{Meganekko}}: A charmingly pretty girl who uses glasses.
* MinorLivingAlone: Both her parents and older sister are dead, and since Ayaka has no stated relatives either, she ends up living by herself in the Sajyou home after the events of the first Tokyo Grail War.
* NightmareFetishist: Downplayed when compared to her sister, but in the Team Prototype's Hanafuda scenario, her first guess about the strangeness of the city they were in (Fuyuki City which has a harbor) was to believe that [[Franchise/CthulhuMythos an octopus monster might have appeared and made everyone in the city its familiar]]. It's at this point that Saber reveals that she has a hobby of reading "gloomy books" which Ayaka which doesn't really deny.
* OccultBlueEyes: Glasses-off Ayaka is said to be much more powerful and assertive than her regular glasses-on self. In fact, her eyes (along with her hair) basically ''glow brighter'' when the glasses are gone.
* OnlySaneWoman: Poor Ayaka is at her wits' end during the Christmas DramaCD. She's also this in the Hanafuda scenario for Team Prototype.
* ParentalAbandonment: Her father is dead [[spoiler:by the hands of her sister Manaka]], and her mother is mentioned in the prequel novels to have passed away sometime after giving birth to Ayaka.
* {{Protectorate}}: To Saber. From the moment he's summoned, he declares his intention to protect Ayaka as her Servant.
* SharedFamilyQuirks: As mentioned above, she and her sister both share similar tastes in [[NightmareFetishist finding entertainment in the morbid and strange]]. For Ayaka, it's merely a book reading hobby that she picked up likely because of her upbringing as a magus.
* ShrinkingViolet:
** She is ''painfully'' shy and lacking in confidence at the start of the story, in a fashion similar to [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Sakura]]. Interestingly enough, in spite of her awkwardness, she ''does'' have friends in school, albeit not ones she could call she's truly close with just like Rin at the start of ''Fate/stay night''.
** In the OVA script, a conversation with Misaya reveals that this is the reason why she actually looks down on Ayaka. It doesn't matter to her if Ayaka is a weak mage, Misaya just finds it hard to consider a weak willed person like her an equal and thus ridicules her for it.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: With her sister Manaka. Ayaka is basically a black haired version of her older sister.
* SurvivorsGuilt: Like Shirou, though how she copes with it differs greatly from his in that Ayaka isn't distorted in any way and that she kept most of her memories [[spoiler: except for ''one'' particularly crucial piece]] of her previous life from before her family's death intact.
* TookALevelInBadass: Starts out cowardly and has to rely on Saber to get her out of trouble. She would have eventually grown out of this thanks to Saber's support. [[AllThereInTheManual According to the script]], she grew enough to take down Sancraid Phahn by herself in a duel that apparently left the room they were in devastated and Ayaka standing victorious over the dying Sancraid.
* TraumaInducedAmnesia: [[spoiler:Seeing the older sister she deeply admired sacrifice numerous young girls to the Grail as well as murder their own father before her eyes shook her so badly that she erased the memory of the event and most of what happened in ''Fragments'' from her mind. She doesn't even remember Saber, who she's met and spoken to eight years prior. Doesn't help that Manaka also tried to off her too before Saber saved her.]]
* {{Tsundere}}: Towards Saber, but it's more apparent when her glasses are off.
* WorldsMostBeautifulWoman: According to [[LoveAtFirstSight Archer]], who considers her more beautiful than all the women of Uruk.
* YoungestChildWins: Played with. Between both her and Manaka, Ayaka was actually chosen as the main heir to the Sajyou name due to having been born with more magical circuits than her sister [[labelnote:*]]To be specific, Manaka's ranked E in terms of Circuit Quantity, which means even individuals like [[WeakButSkilled Waver or Shirou]] have more magical circuits than her[[/labelnote]]. However, the quality of Ayaka's circuits ''pales'' in comparison to that of her sister's, and the general talent that Manaka had meant that she could utilize most types of magecraft with great ease.

to:

* AnimalMotifs: Crows as befitting AdultFear: In Volume 5 of ''Fragments'', he admits to Saber that he's concerned for Ayaka's safety should another Holy Grail War occur during her image as a witch. She's described as lifetime and her being close with them and even uses black feathers forced to participate. Unfortunately for him, his fears end up coming true.
* DisappearedDad: Towards Ayaka, having died in previous Holy Grail War.

* IdenticalStranger:
* ShrinkingViolet:
She
would have eventually grown out of this thanks to Saber's support. [[AllThereInTheManual According to the script]], she grew enough to take down Sancraid Phahn by herself in a duel that apparently left the room they were in devastated and Ayaka standing victorious over the dying Sancraid.
* TraumaInducedAmnesia: [[spoiler:Seeing the older sister she deeply admired sacrifice numerous young girls to the Grail as well as murder their own father before
picked her eyes shook her so badly that she erased the memory of the event and most of what happened in ''Fragments'' from her mind.
Between both her and Manaka, Ayaka was actually chosen
as the main his heir to the Sajyou name due to having had she been born with more magical circuits than her sister [[labelnote:*]]To be specific, Manaka's ranked E in terms of Circuit Quantity, which means even individuals like [[WeakButSkilled Waver or Shirou]] have more magical circuits than her[[/labelnote]]. However, the quality of Ayaka's circuits ''pales'' in comparison to circuits, it's made clear that of he loves both his daughters and is only strict with Ayaka because he's worried about her sister's, and future.
* PosthumousCharacter: Died in
the general talent that previous war [[spoiler:at the hands of Manaka had meant that she could utilize most types of magecraft with great ease.herself.]]

The First Master, with treacherous son of King Arthur who was responsible for the title fall of Seraphim. The older sister of Ayaka, she had immense talent as a magus and participated in the previous Holy Grail War. Although she was killed during the war, she was resurrected by the Grail. Her prior Servant was Saber, and her current Servant is the Beast.Camelot.

* AlasPoorVillain: Her original death was [[AdaptationExpansion treated this way in the audio adaptation]] of ''Fragments''. [[spoiler: After Arthur literally stabs her in the back just as she was about to sacrifice Ayaka to the Beast, she cries out over how the pain hurts her so much and sincerely apologizes to Arthur while regretting how she couldn't see him smile one last time.]]
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: To Ayaka. Ayaka's inferiority complex in ''Prototype'' stems mostly from Manaka being comparatively more talented and prodigious unlike her.
* TheAntiChrist: Strongly suggested to be one due to being called Potnia Theron, compared to evil dragons, having a Beast related attribute that makes her the master of ''all the Beasts'', and how she plans on bringing about the world Arthur wishes for by using the Beast summoned by the Grail to kill most of humanity.
* AxCrazy: She's an insane and outright ruthless sociopath who would commit any atrocity that would help take her one step closer to fulfilling [[LoveMakesYouEvil her beloved Saber's wish]]. All while enjoying it and wearing a smile on her face even. Her body count in ''Fragments'' is ''huge''.
* BackFromTheDead: After her death at the end of the First War, she somehow revives later on. How exactly has yet to be elaborated upon either, as lore indicates that true resurrection of the dead is near impossible, save for extremely specific circumstances.
* BigBad: She drives forward both the plot of ''Prototype'' and ''Fragments'' and she's responsible for quite a few heinous actions.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Sees nothing wrong in [[spoiler:sacrificing her father, Ayaka, and numerous little girls to the Holy Grail in order to power it]]. All for the sake of her achieving her beloved Saber's wish.
* BornWinner: At the age of 14 she is already incredibly proficient in every form of magecraft in the known world, and described as being so talented that she surpasses magi from the Age of Gods. Then it turns out that she's been connected to the Root since birth, practically making her all but outright omnipotent.
* ButNotTooForeign: It's mentioned in the prequel series that she and Ayaka are actually half-British through their mother. This would explain her blonde hair in contrast to both her father and sister.
* CainAndAbel: The Cain to Ayaka's Abel [[spoiler:complete with attempted [[SiblingMurder sororicide]] in ''Fragments'']].
* CameBackWrong: The twist is that she was already wrong to begin with.
* ChildProdigy: She was only 13-14 during ''Fragments'' but was considered an exceptionally talented magus for her age, with her rank as Master in that War acknowledging this. It's noted that she has an innate connection to [[AkashicRecords the Root]] and that she had few magic circuits in her but they were ''absolutely'' unrivaled in regards to quality.
* CombatTentacles: She can use [[spoiler: the contents of the Greater Grail]] that way.
* CoolBigSis: To Ayaka before her true evil nature and [[LoveMakesYouEvil obsession over Saber]] took over her in ''Fragments''. This trait of hers stays in the DramaCD, but not without a hint of her usual nuttiness to add in the craziness factor happening there.
* TheCorrupter: Being around her can make servants do questionable things or even betray their beliefs. Fragments [[spoiler: Assassin]] and [[spoiler: Caster]] both do things far worse than they normally would do while serving her.
* CreepyBlueEyes: Serves as an evil contrast to her sister's InnocentBlueEyes.
* CreepyChild: Her father notes that growing up, she acted more like an emotionless doll rather than a human being as a child. Meeting Saber drastically changed her personality into something resembling that of a typical young girl her age but with [[AxeCrazy a]] [[{{Yandere}} twist]].
* DemonicPossession: In ''Fate/Labyrinth'', her wandering spirit is drawn into the Seventh Labyrinth of Caubac Alcatraz and unwittingly takes control of Norma Goodfellow. Under Manaka's control, Norma summons Saber Artoria to participate in the Subcategory Holy Grail War and joins up with Robin Hood, Medea and True Assassin. While Manaka loses control of Norma at the entrance of the Labyrinth's fourth floor because of the Beast recalling her to her home world, she would later return to help Norma destroy that instance of the Holy Grail.
* DoesNotLikeShoes: As seen in the image. Though during ''Fragments'', she does typically wear cute pumps.
* DyingDeclarationOfLove: Gives a surprisingly [[AlasPoorVillain poignant one]] to Saber in the final [=Drama CD=] adaptation of ''Fragments''[[spoiler: moments after he runs her through with his sword to save Ayaka from her.]]
* ElegantGothicLolita: Her dress looks a LOT like a Sweet Lolita one.
* EnfantTerrible: She did all her horrible past deeds before turning 14.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: [[VideoGame/FateExtra Extra Saber's]] own nutty enthusiasm threw even ''[[TheUnfettered Manaka]]'' off a loop in the ''Extra'' team's ''Hanafuda'' scenario included in ''Fate Stay Night's'' PS Vita port.
* FeminineWomenCanCook: Sometime before the Grail War took place since their mother passed away after Ayaka's birth. * ForTheEvulz: In ''Fragments'', some of the actions she takes can fall into this category due to them having no real motive aside from the fact that she can.
* GigglingVillain: Especially by the time ''Proto'' itself rolls around.
* ImpossiblyLowNeckline: During ''Fragments'', she wears her dress normally. In the present, she unbuttons her dress and lets it hang past her shoulders.
* InTheBack: How [[spoiler:her Servant]] in the first war killed her.
* InadequateInheritor: PlayedWith. She was actually born with less magical circuits than Ayaka which made the latter the actual heir to the Sajyou household rather than her. Despite this, the quality of her circuits far exceed that of anyone that had come before her and is part of what allows her to be such an amazing magus despite her age.
* LadyAndKnight: She wants to be the Black Lady to Saber's KnightInShiningArmor. '''Badly'''.
* LoveAtFirstSight: Revealed to be the case with her towards Saber. Having foreseen her meeting with him at some point, she held expectations of her ''destined one'' and was more than happy to see that he exceeded them.
* LoveMakesYouEvil: Her meeting Saber is also the reason why she would later go on to commit the atrocities she does in the story. All for the sake of her beloved prince...
* MurderTheHypotenuse: [[spoiler: Just seeing her sister Ayaka speaking to Saber and eventually succeeding in persuading him to let go of his wish towards the Grail was motivation enough for Manaka to attempt to use Ayaka as Grail fuel in ''Fragments''' climax.]]
* NightmareFetishist: What pre-teen/teen girl would describe her love for "her prince" to what she'd feel if her intestines were pulled out of her stomach?
* OlderThanTheyLook: She's six years older than Ayaka, but she still retains her appearance of a 14 year old since she died at that age.
* TheOmnipotent: Referred to as such during ''Fragments''. This is due to her innate connection to the Root since birth, a trait shared only by none other than [[LightNovel/TheGardenOfSinners Ryougi Shiki]], whose third personality is considered to be omnipotent as well. If not due to certain restrictions, Manaka actually has the capacity to grant Saber's wish herself.
* PoweredByAForsakenChild: [[spoiler:Sacrificed girls and her own father to the Holy Grail. She would have sacrificed Ayaka if Saber hadn't stopped her.]]
* PsychicAssistedSuicide: [[spoiler:During the first war, she ''forced'' numerous little girls to sacrifice themselves to the Grail as fuel for it so that she doesn't have to give up Saber himself.]]
* RedBaron: She is referred to as ''Potnia Theron'' by numerous characters due to her powers. Brynhild also refers to her as an Evil Dragon.
* SelfMadeOrphan: [[spoiler:Killed her own father, as said above, and sacrificed him to the Grail.]]
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: Her standard outfit in ''Proto'' proper is still the same dress she wore during the First War. Only unbuttoned and off the shoulders to reveal her Master Degree of Seraphim on her chest. Convenient angles prevent it from going into full on [[NippleAndDimed exposure]]. And of course, this also treads into FanDisservice territory, given the aforementioned ''emphasized open wound'' on her chest, which is described as still bleeding, along with her dress being ''drenched in blood''.
* SharedFamilyQuirks: As mentioned in Ayaka's entry, both Sajyou sisters [[NightmareFetishist find entertainment in the morbid and strange]]. For Manaka, said interests can turn into reality very quickly to the misfortune of anyone within her target range.
* SpotOfTea: In the OVA, she and Saber are seen having tea and discussing strategies.
* StartOfDarkness: Before the Holy Grail War, Manaka was a good big sister towards Ayaka and overall a dutiful daughter to her family. The moment she meets and falls in love with Saber however... the results are not pretty.
* TheStoic: Prior to meeting Saber, she was rather detached and somewhat somber outside of her interactions with her younger sister, Ayaka. Like [[LightNovel/TheGardenOfSinners Shiki Ryougi]], her connection to the Root from birth is likely what made her empty in the first place.
* StoryBreakerPower: Being one of [[LightNovel/TheGardenOfSinners two]] of the only known characters to be directly connected to the Root since birth, Manaka's omnipotence earns her a spot as one of the most powerful beings to exist in the Nasuverse. She's all but stated to be stronger than her own Servant ''at least'', has mastered all forms of magecraft that far exceed those that existed during the Age of the Gods, and legitimately has the capacity to grant Saber's wish herself if not for her low magic circuit count, the Counter Force's existence, and the fact that Camelot's fall is under a Quantum Timelock.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: With her sister Ayaka. As children in ''Fragments of Sky Silver'', Manaka basically looked like an older blonde haired Ayaka. It's likely that had she been allowed to age that she would have resembled the teenage Ayaka seen in ''Prototype'' proper and as well as the Ayaka Sajyou from ''Literature/FateStrangeFake''.
* SupremeChef: She's her family's main cook after her mother died. She even whipped up a literal feast of delicious food for Saber to eat for breakfast.
* TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior: Her actions and the atrocities she committed during ''Fragments'' after summoning Saber are not things you would expect a 12 year old young girl to do at her age.
* VillainProtagonist: ''Fragments'' is '''her''' story, in a sense, just like present ''Prototype'' is Ayaka's.
* WoundThatWillNotHeal: The one on her torso and back. Apparently, ''it still bleeds''.
* {{Yandere}}: For Saber. She was willing to kill her own sister just because Saber had talked with her.
* YouRemindMeOfX: Gilgamesh is disgusted with her because she reminds him of his hated enemy Ishtar.

greater Nasuverse setting.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: To Ayaka. Ayaka's inferiority complex in ''Prototype'' stems mostly from Manaka being comparatively more talented and prodigious unlike her.
* TheAntiChrist: Strongly suggested to be one due to being called Potnia Theron, compared to evil dragons, having
TheUnseen: Like Merlin, his appearance is left a Beast related attribute mystery. One could assume he looks like Saber given that makes her the master of ''all the Beasts'', they're father and how she plans on bringing about the world Arthur wishes for by using the Beast summoned by the Grail to kill most of humanity.
son.
* AxCrazy: She's an insane and outright ruthless sociopath who would commit any atrocity that would help take her one step closer to fulfilling [[LoveMakesYouEvil her beloved Saber's wish]]. All while enjoying it and wearing a smile on her face even. Her body count {{Yandere}}: A flashback in ''Fragments'' is ''huge''.
* BackFromTheDead: After her death at the end of the First War, she somehow revives later on. How exactly has yet to be elaborated upon either, as lore indicates
reveals that true resurrection of the dead is near impossible, save for extremely specific circumstances.
This would explain her blonde hair in contrast to both her
Mordred was even more ''extremely'' obsessed over his father and sister.
Fragments [[spoiler: Assassin]] and [[spoiler: Caster]] both do things far worse
Arthur than they normally would do while serving her.
* DemonicPossession: In ''Fate/Labyrinth'', her wandering spirit is drawn into
[[LightNovel/FateApocrypha the Seventh Labyrinth Mordred of Caubac Alcatraz and unwittingly takes control of Norma Goodfellow. Under Manaka's control, Norma summons Saber Artoria to participate in Artoria's timeline]]. To the Subcategory Holy Grail War and joins up with Robin Hood, Medea and True Assassin. While Manaka loses control of Norma at the entrance of the Labyrinth's fourth floor because of the Beast recalling her point, he wanted to her home world, she would later return to help Norma destroy that instance of the Holy Grail.
* DoesNotLikeShoes: As seen in the image. Though during ''Fragments'', she does typically wear cute pumps.
* DyingDeclarationOfLove: Gives a surprisingly [[AlasPoorVillain poignant one]] to Saber in the final [=Drama CD=] adaptation of ''Fragments''[[spoiler: moments after
everything Arthur cared about until he runs her through with his sword to save Ayaka from her.]]
From then on, the very girlish Manaka handled most of the housework; she's certainly seen [[http://static2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130712150129/typemoon/images/a/aa/Manakasilver1.jpg making breakfast]] in some illustrations.
This is due to her innate connection to the Root since birth, a trait shared
only by none other than [[LightNovel/TheGardenOfSinners Ryougi Shiki]], whose third personality is considered to be omnipotent as well.

The Servant of Ayaka Sajyou. A heroic individual with a strong sense of justice. Has made it his mission to protect Ayaka. Was the Servant of Manaka Sajyou in the previous Holy Grail War.
----
* TheAntiNihilist: Saber is overflowing with hope and determination, and is sworn to fight for protection of the world's future, making him a rather stark contrast than how F/SN-Saber was. [[spoiler: He started out much more similar to her, however, before the young Ayaka made him understand that he didn't need to spend his days mourning his Britain and trying to undo the past.]]
* BadassInDistress: [[spoiler:At some point during ''Prototype'', he's stolen away from Ayaka by Sancraid Phahn and turned into Saber Alter. She later manages to get him back with the help of Lancer.]]
* BlowYouAway: Invisible Air has the ability to do this.
* BodyguardBetrayal: [[spoiler:After seeing firsthand Manaka's atrocities in the first Holy Grail War, Saber's response was to kill her immediately.]]
* CastingGag: Shares the same voice actor as the ''Fate/Stay Night'' incarnation of Merlin. Humorously, Prototype Merlin also shares the same voice actor as his Altria, who is Arthur's ''Fate/Stay Night'' GenderFlip.
* ChickMagnet: He gains the affections of Brynhild, Manaka, and Ayaka.
* CompositeCharacter: Despite his DecompositeCharacter nature, his subsequent iteration in the OVA shows him heavily armored yet wearing purple-to-dark-blue flowing robes--borrowing a bit from the color scheme of [[LightNovel/FateApocrypha Jeanne d'Arc]].
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Part of what makes him a ditz. In the Hanafuda scenario for Team Prototype, the team eventually encounters Manaka as the final boss. When Manaka describes what she'll do with Saber via innuendo laced dialogue, Saber tells her that's he prepared for her revenge but then says that a girl her age shouldn't say such dirty words and that she should be more heroine like. Both Ayaka and Lancer snark at him for this.
-->'''Ayaka:''' I’ve been thinking about it since back then, but could it be that you actually are a perfect match for Big Sister, Saber?
-->'''Lancer:''' Well, they’re both airheads, after all. Maybe they could work out as lovebirds.
* CovertPervert: For all the prince charming vibes Saber gives off, the Hanafuda scenario for Team Prototype in the 2012 re-release of ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' reveals that he's something of a pervert as he's rather enthusiastic about seeing Ayaka naked in the hot springs. When Ayaka uses her wish to create a wall that separates her from the guys, Saber is the first to actually suggest that he and Lancer ''blow it up with their Noble Phantasms''. It actually takes ''Archer'' of all people to put a stop to both.
* DeadpanSnarker: Has his fair share of snark which is especially seen in the script for the OVA.
** After her accidental summoning of him, Ayaka repeatedly makes it clear that she has no interest in taking part in the grail war and admits that she doesn't care if innocent people are hurt in the crossfire. While he admits that he understands Ayaka's viewpoint, Saber asks if her life was simply made to make sensible decisions which promptly shuts her up.
** When rejecting Misaya's offer to become his new Master, Saber points out that despite proclaiming that the strongest Servant should go to the highest ranked Master, she herself is actually just the second ranked Master which renders her offer completely null in the first place. Misaya was not amused by this to say the least.
* DeclarationOfProtection: Not long after Ayaka summons him, he says he'll protect her. [[spoiler:This is actually the ''second'' time he tells her this, however -- and the first time he swore to protect her world on top of it.]]
* DecompositeCharacter: Being ''the'' original concept for Saber, his original Character Material Portrait shows him wearing plated armor, blue clothing and with a white kilt jutting below from it, suggesting where Artoria's look would evolve from, at the same time appearing as a PaletteSwap of what Gilgamesh will eventually wear.
* TheDitz: Ayaka describes him as such in Team Prototype's Hanafuda scenario and the Drama CD.
* TheGadfly: Apparently a bit, since he is shown stealing Ayaka's glasses with a clear grin on his face despite her protests.
* GodzillaThreshold: Excalibur "Proto" has no actual typing listed in part due to its gradient nature with additional seals released, [[spoiler: but its full power has at best been described as an ''Anti''-Anti-World, being implicitly regarded as a Noble Phantasm that exists to save the planet from threats. It's so immense that the sword's true form in proper continuity has ''never been seen yet'', with Fate/Grand Order cheating this via creative liberties. To wit even Gilgamesh and his Ea analogue of Enki wasn't enough to need it.]]
* TheHero: Taking aside Manaka who's more of a VillainProtagonist, he's more or less the main character of Fragments and is quite heroic.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: Excalibur-''Proto'' differs in what we eventually get in that there are 13 restraining seals to its full powers[[note]]in reference to the 13 Knights of the Round Table, Arthur himself included[[/note]]. To see more, see PowerLimiter below.
* TheIdealist: His wish for the Holy Grail is [[spoiler:or rather, ''was'']] to create a kingdom of everlasting peace, where people no longer need to suffer. [[spoiler:Even when that wish is broken and he must accept he can never make it come true, he still believes in his dream, putting his faith in the future instead of the past.]] Sound familiar?[[note]]This is almost note-for-note the ideal of [[Characters/FateStayNightHumans Shirou Emiya]], who in personality Arthur all but outright ''is''.[[/note]]
* IdiotHair: Not immediately noticeable compared to Artoria's, but it's there.
* InTheHood: His Servant attire features one. Most notably he puts it on when he [[spoiler:killed Manaka and unleashes Excalibur-Proto on the partially awakened Beast of Revelation at the end of Fragments]].
* KnightInShiningArmor: Particularly for Ayaka who considers him her personal prince who always protects her.
* MeaningfulEcho: When first summoned, his first words to Ayaka is to declare his intention to protect her as her Servant. [[spoiler:This takes on a whole new meaning when ''Fragments of Sky Silver'' reveals that Saber once made that same declaration to a young Ayaka after she unknowingly helped him come to terms with his past.]]
* PowerLimiter: Excalibur-Proto's power is restrained by Thirteen Seals. Over seven of them need to be lifted before it can unleash an Anti-Fortress level attack properly. Though it's revealed in the prequels that with just a few released Arthur can still utilize its power to varying degrees. In Fragments, one was enough [[spoiler: to defeat the Sword of Paracelsus, an ''A+'' Anti-Army Noble Phantasm, with another seal enough to undo its power snatching ability. And six seals released were enough to deal with the Beast during the finale]]. These are some of the conditions that have been revealed so far, each set by a member of the Round Table including Arthur himself:
-->''"The battle must be an honorable one."'' - ???[[note]]''Fate/Grand Order'' implies this might be Gareth[[/note]]\\
''"Thou must be fighting someone stronger than yourself."'' - Bedivere\\
''"Thou must be fighting one on one."'' - Palamedes.\\
''"Thou must not be fighting against an Elemental."'' - Lancelot.\\
''"Thou must be fighting against evil."'' - Mordred.\\
''"Thou must be fighting without self-interest."'' - Galahad.\\
''"Thou must be fighting to save the world."'' - Arthur.
* RazorWind: Invisible Air, the very same one that Artoria would use herself.
* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong: Much like [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Artoria]], Saber desires to save Britain. But as revealed in the prequel novels, the way he goes about it actually helps differentiate the two. Whereas Artoria initially wishes to redo her rule and later changes it to wishing someone else had become King, Arthur desires to create "an eternal kingdom of peace where the people no longer have to suffer". [[spoiler:After meeting the young Ayaka in ''Fragments'', however, Arthur decides to abandon the idea of changing the past, and work to protect the world in the here and now, that it may one day become the kind of world he dreamed of.]]
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: [[spoiler:As some point he would be corrupted by Sancraid Phahn when he steals Ayaka's Command Seal, becoming the prototype to Saber Alter and serving as the base for FSN-Gilgamesh's personality.]]
* TookALevelInJerkass:
** A mild example, but [[spoiler:having to slay his dearly-held Master last war]] ''really'' did not sit well for Saber, turning him into a similar kind of nihilist to Archer EMIYA. However, [[spoiler: much like the first time,]] Ayaka mends his heart.
** This occurs again when [[spoiler:under Phahn's twisted arts, he becomes Saber Alter. Specifically, it's been stated his personality became much like what later was reintroduced as ''FSN-Gilgamesh's''.]]
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Though it's not really his fault, Manaka falling in love with him is what sets off her StartOfDarkness which in turn drives the overall main plot of both ''Fate/Prototype'' and its prequel ''Fragments of Sky Silver''.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Archer and Lancer in extra materials. Ayaka notes that despite the way they act, the trio are able to get along surprisingly well.
* WaistcoatOfStyle: As Manaka's Servant, he wore a black vest with his [[BadassInANiceSuit dark suit]] in the Spin-off Novel--something [[BadassInANiceSuit Saber herself would similarly do]] in the [[LightNovel/FateZero Fourth Holy Grail War]]. This contrasts with him wearing rather informal civilian clothing as Ayaka's Servant.
* WaveMotionSword: It wouldn't be King Arthur without ''[[PunctuatedForEmphasis EX...]] [[CallingYourAttacks CALIBUUUURRRRR]]!!!'' Based on the OVA, this Saber's Excalibur is way more powerful than what we eventually get, considering it seemingly levels an entire city block in its wake, which is stated to have been at half power. His is also EX ranked compared to Artoria's A++ rank.
* WorfHadTheFlu: Throughout ''Fragments'', he is never in a position for at least seven of Excalibur's restraints to be unsealed and is thus unable to demonstrate its full power. While he can still use its Anti-Fortress attack as long as one seal is removed, the attack will still be weakened and thus in a position to be overpowered (like against Ozymandias' Dendera Light). [[spoiler:Even against Beast VI, Arthur is only able to remove six seals instead of seven, and he was honestly lucky that Beast VI was also in a weakened state.]]
* WouldHitAGirl: Though Arthur mentions that a knight should never raise their blade against a lady, he has no qualms about hitting the opposite sex when it comes down to it. [[spoiler:In the prequels, he's responsible for taking out both Lancer and Assassin, the only two female Servants in the last Holy Grail War he participated in, as well as having no problems stabbing Manaka from behind after discovering the true nature of the Holy Grail and what she plans on doing with it]].

* AdaptationalBadass: ZigZaggedTrope. Compared to F/SN-Gilgamesh who was an average swordsman and whose preferred combat style is to simply shoot everything to death, Proto-Gilgamesh actually prefers to deal with his opponents up close and personal (with his version of the Gate of Babylon acting as a sort of sidearm) thus averting disadvantage that his counterpart had when put against other Servants in the melee department. He's even good enough to give Saber a hard time as seen in the OVA. On the other hand, his actual parameters are a bit lower (though he keeps the EX-ranked Noble Phantasm stat).
* BadassBoast: Declares himself the most powerful hero in existence during the OVA.
* BlingOfWar: [[WalkingShirtlessScene While exposing his top]], Proto-Gilgamesh's Servant attire actually comes off as just as fancy, if not even more so, than F/SN-Gilgamesh by being more intricately designed in comparison.
* BloodKnight: In comparison to his F/SN-Gilgamesh, he's thrilled at the idea of the Holy Grail War, where various heroes of legend get to do battle against each other for the sake of the ultimate prize.
* FriendlyEnemy: With Saber. If the OVA is any indication, he does seem to conduct himself on equal footing with Saber/King Arthur, in contrast to [[SmugSuper his colossal haughtiness against almost everyone]] in ''F/SN''.
* HyperspaceArsenal: ''Bab-ilu: Key of the King's Law'' allows him to access his endless treasury, which is carried to his F/SN incarnation.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: He's an Archer who's an ''actual'' archer, this go around. His aim's good enough that he can miss the earth-planted Saber's head by mere ''inches'' from the top of a skyscraper -- because he ''deliberately'' intended to miss by that much.
* ItsAllAboutMe: So, Arthur is a man in this iteration, which means Gil isn't going to be infatuated with him. What then draws him to Saber in this instance? Because, despite being ''[[WorldsStrongestMan Gilgamesh]]'', he isn't the top-ranking Heroic Spirit in this world or even the second; he is the ''third'', behind Arthur and Heracles. Gil isn't taking that sitting down, and so throws down the gauntlet with the Holy Sword Wielder to prove he is the best of them all.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While he's still arrogant and possessive of Ayaka, he gives Saber an elixir that can cure any poison or disease so he can cure Ayaka (not without a fight, because hey, it ''is'' the Holy Grail War and Gil loves fighting Saber, but he's still perfectly willing to part with it ''and'' even if Saber had lost, it's all but certain Archer would've gone and tended to Ayaka anyway) and just, in general, he seems a lot more sensible than his ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' counterpart.
* LargeHam: It wouldn't be Gilgamesh if he wasn't one.
* LoveAtFirstSight: With Ayaka, he claims she's more beautiful than the women of his own kingdom. Unlike his ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' counterpart, he doesn't act like Ayaka is a possession, and in fact, tries to court her. This is probably why ''F/SN'' Gil is often mentioned as having surprisingly high compatibility with Rin in supplementary materials, and relatedly why Ishtar appears looking like Rin in ''Grand Order'' - it's all echoes of Gil's attraction to Ayaka.
* MadeOfIron: One of his original Noble Phantasms mentioned in the side material is the ability to "Absolutely Survive". It's currently unknown whether or not he still has this ability in the final product, but it's worth noting that he survives ''getting cleaved in half'' by [[WaveMotionSword Saber's Excalibur]] during their climactic battle against each other. That alone should say something about his durability.
* TheNicknamer: Calls Saber "Holy Sword Wielder".
* NoOneCouldSurviveThat: In the climax of his battle with Saber, the partially-unsealed Excalibur tears through his Enki and carves Gilgamesh himself right down the middle. [[spoiler: Not only does Gilgamesh manage to ''survive'' this, but he also takes Heracles head-on despite his condition, in what would later become EMIYA's battle against the Berserker in ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'', killing the "Strongest Hero" and ridding Ayaka and Lancer of their greatest obstacle in saving Arthur from Sancraid Phahn.]]
* OhCrap: His reaction in a nutshell when he realizes that Saber survived his Noble Phantasm being unleashed in the OVA.
* TheRival: Rather than invoked by romantic interest --at least, not but for some small part-- Gilgamesh takes exception to Saber ranking as the greatest player in the Grail War, and seeks to defeat him to prove his superiority.
* StormOfBlades: As to be expected. That said, Gil here doesn't use his HyperspaceArsenal as a crutch in the same way as FSN-Gil, instead preferring to take opponents head-on and using his Bab-ilu as a sidearm rather than a primary means of offense.
* SwissArmyWeapon: Enki, which normally functions as a pair of dual swords and acts as a bow when both swords are joined together at the pommel. It can also turn into a pair of Tonfa-Style weapons as revealed in material.
* ReadingsAreOffTheScale: His Noble Phantasm, [[TheGreatFlood ''Enki: Sword of the End'']] is an EX ranked Noble Phantasm capable of flooding the entire world.[[note]] Which is a reference to the [[Literature/TheEpicOfGilgamesh Surge of Utnapishtim]]. This later gives rise to [[InfinityPlusOneSword Ea's]] Enuma Elish attack in ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' and ''LightNovel/FateZero'' as an attack capable of destroying the world.[[/note]]

[[folder:Lancer (Cu Chulainn)]]
!!!Voiced by Creator/KazuyaNakai
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fpam5_6500.jpg]]

The Servant of Misaya Reiroukan. Tracks down Ayaka at the beginning of the story, which causes her to summon Saber.
----
* AdaptationalBadass: If his stats are anything to go by, Proto-Cu is actually stronger than his counterpart was in FSN. Having higher overall strength (''A'' to FSN-Cu's ''B''), agility (''A+'' to FSN-Cu's ''A''), mana (''B'' to FSN-Cu's ''C''), and finally, of all things, higher luck as well (''D'' to FSN-Cu's ''E'').
* AnimalMotif: Of a Hunting Dog much like his counterpart, but he's a bit closer to a wolf (even wears a protective amulet in the shape of a wolf's head with a crescent moon in its mouth).
* TheBeastmaster: He has excellent compatibility with the canine familiars that Misaya creates.
* BladeOnAStick: Gae Bolg, which is currently not in use by Lancer apparently due to Misaya's orders.
* ButtMonkey: Much like FSN-Cu, he's treated as such in certain gag scenarios.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: Eventually contracts with Ayaka when his Master dies, not unlike how Cu Chulainn eventually chooses to ally with Shirou and Rin after Saber was stolen by Caster/Medea.]]
* OddFriendship: With Misaya. She considers him her dog and purposely weakens him by sealing away Gae Bolg, but despite this, Lancer actually likes her and decides to serve her faithfully in order to help Misaya be cured of her curse.
* OneHitKill: Much like his FSN counterpart, Gae Bolg is still this.
* PunchClockVillain: Despite being sent to assassinate Ayaka, he shows enough respect for her efforts to ward him off with her magic, even commending how old and sophisticated hers is.
* WreckedWeapon: As seen in the OVA, his spear was cut in half by Saber after his summoning quite immediately. The impact is lessened by him later saying it was a hastily-made weapon, since his actual spear, the iconic Gae Bolg, is being hidden somewhere.
* YoungerAndHipper: In a sense. When compared to FSN-Lancer, this version is stated to be somewhat younger in both mind and body.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Rider (Perseus)]]
!!!Voiced by Creator/MamoruMiyano
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_1rsz_1rsz_proto_rider_3108.png]]

The Servant of the Third Master. A mysterious Servant who wears a mask in battle.
----
* AntiVillain: Rider took a while to warm up to his kind and apparently unassuming Master Isemi, but ultimately came to care for him. Since [[spoiler: Isemi turned out to be TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth]], now he will do anything to [[spoiler:bring him BackFromTheDead.]]
* {{Bishounen}}: From the tiny bit we get to see of him in the trailer posing as one of Ayaka's classmates. Bonus points for being tall and willowy, too.
* ClassicalAntiHero: While he ''is'' a hero of Greek Legend, Perseus in life was filled with self-doubt and lacked a real knack for fighting, even when in the possession of five Noble Phantasms. He even calls himself a coward and acknowledges that had Gorgon not tried to use Breaker Gorgon and got it reflected back at her, she'd have killed him easily.
* CoolMask: Uses one to conceal his identity. [[spoiler:It also acts a pseudo-Master for him after Isemi's death according to material, which is apparently what allows him to participate in the Holy Grail War.]]
* DavidVsGoliath: Gorgon was something of an EldritchAbomination {{Kaiju}} while Perseus had only five Noble Phantasms to his name (a pair of boots that afforded him speed and flight, a shield that could negate her petrifying gaze and act as a MagicCompass, a mantle that made him temporarily invisible, a sword that would wound her in a way that would negate her ability to heal, and a BagOfHolding that could also create an inverse Bounded Field). Suffice to say, his gifts were of dubious utility against such a behemoth of a foe and he only managed to triumph because he frustrated the beast enough that it was tricked into using Breaker Gorgon, allowing him to use Kibisis to bounce the attack back at her. If the fight had gone any longer, it's likely she would have killed him through sheer attrition and his own dwindling confidence.
* FakeUltimateHero: Downplayed. He was completely terrified during his battle with Gorgon and only managed to win by turning her own powers against her in a last-minute gamble. He's similarly aware that his heinous acts are unbecoming of the hero everyone believes him to be and that his Master wouldn't want him killing for the sake of his resurrection. At the same time, he did ultimately do all of the things he’s famous for doing, it was just harder for and on him than his inflated reputation implies.
* LivingWithTheVillain: He disguises himself as one of Ayaka's classmates and friends.
* MythologyGag: His identity is nothing but this considering that FSN-Rider is none other than Medusa.
* NiceGuy: Perseus is a rather kind fellow, coming to greatly care for his master Isemi in the week they knew each other [[spoiler:before his passing, and his wish is simply to revive him from an unjust fate.]] He takes no pleasure in fighting his classmate and friend Ayaka, nor does he find happiness in having to do more heinous actions for the sake of [[spoiler:reviving]] Isemi.
* OffWithHisHead: After he defeated Gorgon, she was reduced to her much more human and vulnerable form of Medusa who was helpless before him. He decapitated her without hesitation.
* SummonMagic: Much like FSN-Rider, one of his Noble Phantasms is summoning a Pegasus.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Berserker (Heracles)]]
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/berserkerprototype.png]]

Sancraid Phahn's eventual Servant. A great hero turned into a maddened killing machine by his class, and attached to a Master all too eager to make use of his killing potential.
----
* {{Expy}}: Pretty much the Berserker we all came to know from ''F/SN'', with surprisingly little changed about the man himself (even his visual design was pretty much locked down this early on). The main difference lies in his relationship with his Master; Sancraid was going to mostly use him as a fire-and-forget missile (i.e. the same eventual relationship between Kirei and Lancer--particularly in ''Heaven's Feel''), basically, to cause maximum destruction, while Ilya ends up having a much deeper relationship with Berserker.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Beast of Revelation]]
The second Servant of Manaka Sajyou. The embodiment of the sins and desires of humanity, its materialization is apparently the true purpose of the Holy Grail War.
----
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: As a non-human being that exists to devour others, it has no real concept of good or evil. To it, all the sacrifices are simply tasty and delicious food.
* TheDragon: It will serve as this to Manaka once it is summoned.
* EldritchAbomination: Its true form is the red seven-headed, ten-horned Beast ridden by the golden Whore of Babylon. Its initial form is a sea of black mud that is desperately attempting to give shape to its body, starting with its seven brains and jaws.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Sees Manaka as its mother, [[spoiler: and flips out when Arthur kills her]].
* EnfanteTerrible: Has a mentality comparable to that of a young child, albeit one that wants to devour humans and spread death.
* HumanSacrifice: In order for it to fully manifest, seven Heroic Spirits are needed to serve as sacrifices. However, to prevent Arthur from serving as one himself, Manaka opts to use over six hundred people instead as a substitute.
* MadeOfEvil: From the few descriptions we have, it shares this trait with Angra Mainyu of the published ''F/SN''.
* NumberOfTheBeast: This was going to be a factor in some fashion, but it's not totally clear how it would've worked in ''Proto'' proper; in ''Fragments'', between six Servants and six hundred humans being sacrificed to try bringing it into being, the number comes close to appearing but doesn't quite make it.
* SevenDeadlySins: Unlike the normal Evils of Humanity it represents an actual human sin, in this case, {{Greed}}.
* TheUnseen: No proper design for it has ever been revealed; it's been vaguely described but never depicted on-camera in any work to date.

!!Masters of ''Fragments of Sky Silver''
[[folder: Tatsumi Kitano (Master of Berserker)]]
!!!Voiced by Creator/AtsushiTamaru (Drama CD)
The Seventh-Ranked Master of Princes. An OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent who gets caught up in the Holy Grail War after accidentally summoning Berserker through one of his grandfather's mementos. Believing in justice, he participates in the war to save Tokyo from the dangers that the Holy Grail War presents to it.
----
* {{Expy}}: Very clearly of [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Emiya Shirou]] as a Master who got involved in the Grail War via accidental summoning and has a strong belief in the idea of justice. His reason for participating in the war is basically the same as Shirou's own.
* JusticeWillPrevail: Said to be a "justice attitude person", and seeks to defeat all the magi who control Tokyo by evil ritual magic. [[spoiler:Even as a Zombie this trait of his remains rooted into his being]].
* MagicEye: It's said that Kitano's left eye is actually a kind of ''[[http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Mystic_Eyes Mystic Eye]]'', which temporarily paralyzes someone.
* MismatchedEyes: [[https://38.media.tumblr.com/b13a8bd27b1f62e76ee2816af7f911b0/tumblr_neza6udC371rye1gyo1_1280.jpg In this picture]]. It's because his left eyes is a Mystic Eye while his other is normal.
* OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent: Described as such. He wasn't even aware of his mystic eye until the war had started.
* NaiveNewcomer: Unlike other masters, Kitano had no idea of what the Holy Grail War even ''was'' before being chosen. [[spoiler: This gets him killed by Hassan of Serenity.]]

----
* FantasticDrug: His main specialty as a magus. They're potent enough that he was about to be warranted a sealing designation had he never decided to take part in the Holy Grail War.
* LovePotion: Able to make one potent enough to even affect a Servant like Lancer. [[spoiler:He uses this to his advantage to help spur her on against Saber as she gets more powerful the more in-love she is with her opponents.]]
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: His fate after Saber's battle with Lancer is unknown. [[spoiler:It's later revealed during the epilogue that he died, likely at the hands of Manaka as she was one of the last people to meet with him.]]

The Fifth-Ranked Master of Virtues. A kind young woman who had lost her son less than a year ago before the Holy Grail War occurs. Her wish is "for all mothers and children to be saved."
----
* CameraFiend: Though not shown in-story, her official job is that of being a camerawoman.
* LadyAndKnight: The Lady to Archer's Knight, indeed.
* MixedAncestry: Part Japanese, part German.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: Elza was deeply affected by the death of her son.
* SoleSurvivor: [[spoiler:Not counting Manaka who gets revived later on, Elza is the only survivor among the seven Masters of the Tokyo Holy Grail War.]]
* StepfordSmiler: Described as such, putting on a smiling facade as a way to mask her sadness over her son's death.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Beer, [[NationalStereotypes as one can guess.]]
* WarIsHell: Having gone to war-torn countries as part of her job, she has nothing but distaste for it.

The Fourth-Ranked Master of Dominion. An elderly gentleman who is the current head of a clan of magi whose magic circuits are slowly dying out. As a result, he and his clansmen have learned how to adapt to modern technologies in compensation for the weakening lineage.
----

* GraveRobbing: Rider accuses him of this, as the necklace used to summon him belonged to his wife and which by itself could only be obtained by breaking into her tomb. It's never revealed if he himself actually did this however.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:By Assassin]].
* SharpDressedMan: As revealed in concept art, he's quite spiffy underneath that coat of his.

[[folder: Master Reiroukan (Master of Caster)]]

The Third-Ranked Master of Thrones. The father of Misaya.

* InformedAbility: As the third-ranked Master among the seven, he could be considered the third-best mage among the lot yet is unable to show off any of his abilities [[spoiler:as Caster betrays him for Manaka]].
* NoNameGiven: His given name is never revealed.
* OffingTheOffspring: Said to have fatally cursed his daughter Misaya. [[spoiler: He didn't. In reality he tried to save her from the curse, but was killed before he could do it.]]
* TheGhost: His physical appearance is never seen throughout the prequels.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: Very little is known about him before he died.

[[folder: Seiji Jinga (Master of Assassin)]]
!!!Voiced by Creator/AtsushiImaruoka (Drama CD)
The Sixth-Ranked Master of Powers.
----
* LargeHam: As heard during the Drama CD.
* LoveMakesYouDumb: More like sexual attraction, but same idea. The moment he sees Assassin, he's so taken with desire for her, that he forgets the mad desire he was laughing like a lunatic about only moments earlier. And then [[KissOfDeath he kisses her...]]
* SmallNameBigEgo: Having come from a small-time magus family, he was intent on winning the Holy Grail War and making a name for himself but gets offed by Assassin minutes after summoning her.
* TooDumbToLive: Kind of. To be fair to him, he probably had no way of knowing that Assassin's very body is toxic to the touch, but still, giving in to a desire to kiss her was still not a good idea, no matter what.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: Killed off by Assassin right after she had been summoned by him.

[[folder: In General]]
* BackFromTheDead: A natural occurrence in a Holy Grail War setup. [[spoiler: However, later on by the time of the second Holy Grail War, Manaka brings them all back as part of her personal force.]]
* TheBeautifulElite: It's rather notable that when compared to other Grail War settings in the franchise which has at least one unattractive or older looking Servant, every single one of the Fragments Servants, Arthur included, is quite the looker.
* TheCorruption: [[spoiler: As seen in the [[https://i.imgur.com/TakLBCU.png final illustration]] of the last volume of Fragments, all six of them have been corrupted into Alters by Manaka. Especially notable with Ramesses, as he managed to resist being taken over by a Demon God during the Sixth Singularity of ''Fate/Grand Order''. * ActionGirl: Perhaps one of the strongest Servants in the Tokyo Holy Grail War. [[{{Yandere}} And she gets stronger the more she loves her opponent]].
* BladeOnAStick: She utilizes a long and gigantic spear with a large blade reminiscent of a shield.
* BornUnlucky: [[RunningGag Much like other Lancers in the franchise]] Brynhild's luck rank is very low. In fact, it tops out at E. Considering what happens to her by the end of ''Fragments'' and afterward, [[UpToEleven it could even be said that she has ''the worst'' luck among them all]].
* {{BFS}}: Not only is her spear large, but it also grows larger and heavier the more she loves her opponent.
* GeometricMagic: She has a powerful Origin Rune upon her chest given by her father Odin. It has enough power to destroy Tokyo.
* ICannotSelfTerminate: [[spoiler:After being hijacked by the world or her father Odin to stop Manaka, she asks Saber to end her life before she kills the people of Tokyo]].
* LightningBruiser: Going from her stats alone she's this and it shows.
* LongHairIsFeminine: She's said to be a woman with "a delicate body and long hair".
* NoSell: Hassan's poison has no effect on her due to her flames being hot enough to burn away the poison.
* ThePowerOfLove: Her Spear Noble Phantasm is powered by love. If she loves something the more powerful it is and the more damage it does to the target. She loves almost everything in the world on some level except for [[BigBad Manaka]] and can't harm the evil dragon she sees before her.
* RapunzelHair: Her hair is long enough to reach her thighs.
* SanitySlippage: [[spoiler:Being subjected to Nigel's love potion and her father Odin forcing her to take action against Manaka does a number on her psyche which resulted in her going on a rampage. Luckily, she's able to snap out of it long enough to let Saber kill her.]]
* SecondLove: While she gets heated over anybody who reminds her of Sigurd, [[spoiler: she genuinely falls for Arthur at some point after he cut her down to save Tokyo in the interim while her soul remained with the others in the Greater Grail. Which becomes [[{{Yandere}} very unfortunate]] when she's [[SuperpoweredEvilSide revived through the black mud of it.]]]]
* SemiDivine: Being a former goddess, she counts. Though her divinity is ranked at E due to her falling out with her father Odin.
* ManOnFire: She's able to wrap her body in fire.
* WorldsMostBeautifulWoman: Described as being such in the prequel novels.
* {{Yandere}}: One of the first and most famous examples, but also weaponized. Her spear becomes heavier and more powerful the more she loves the target. She loves nature, the world, and all people to a certain extent, but against heroes, who can swiftly evoke powerful feelings in her, it becomes extremely powerful. She's basically a Hero-Killer, especially to those who remind of her Sigurd. Arthur, in particular, evokes it the strongest among the Servants. [[spoiler: Come the epilogue set during the final act of Prototype's story, wherein she and the other first-war participants are revived as Alters, and this trope is in full effect, with Brynhildr being wholly in love with Arthur rather than just projecting Sigurd onto him, and wanting to kill him no less.]]

Arash is a famed bowman sung in Persian myths, who accomplished the great feat of saving thousands of people with a single arrow at the cost of his life. His Master is Elsa Saijo.
----

* BashBrothers: With Arthur, particularly when they unite to bring down Ozymandias together.
* BoringButPractical: Besides his infamously powerful Noble Phantasm, Arash lacks any of the "gimmicks" other Archers have in the franchise whether it be a case of ability (Reality Marbles, portals that fire weapons, poison, etc.) or anatomy (being part cat, being a centaur, etc.). He is instead an incredibly tough, brave, and capable bowman and that's all he really needs to keep up with the likes of King Arthur and Ozymandias.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:He uses ''Stella: The Lone Meteor'' to help Saber defeat Rider at the cost of his own life]].
* IdealHero: Arash believes in and follows the path of the ideal hero. He will do whatever he can to protect the people when they are in need even at the cost of his life.

The Egyptian Pharoah commonly associated with [[Literature/TheBible Moses]]. His Master is Shizuri Isemi.
----

* AlternateHistory: Moses was his best friend. While the events of the Literature/BookOfExodus would still play out (Moses becomes God's prophet and the Ten Plagues are unleashed on Egypt when Ramesses refuses to free the Israelites), the parting of the Red Sea ultimately convinces Ramesses to not pursue Moses and the Israelites. The original story had the Pharaoh and his army chase the Israelites down the open path only to be swallowed by the Red Sea when it closes up.
* TheBeastMaster: He has a palace-like Reality Marble ''filled'' with Phantasmal Beasts of all kinds.
* BerserkButton: He flips his shit upon being summoned due to his catalyst being his wife [[spoiler: Nefertari]]'s necklace, which could have only been obtained by raiding her tomb.
* {{BFG}}: His Ramesseum Tentyris has the ability to utilize the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dendera_light Dendera Light]] as a massive beam cannon capable of flattening cities.
* BloodKnight: His narration points out that he actively forgave and praised warriors with the courage to challenge him during his life, even forgiving them for their rebellion against him if they provided him a good match.
* BreathWeapon: His Sphinx has this in the form of a '''[[PlayingWithFire fire]] [[BlowYouAway tornado]]'''.
* DramaPreservingHandicap: To even make it possible for Saber to defeat Rider, Manaka has his Master's entire clan murdered [[spoiler: with the help of Assassin's poison]]. Rider is still so invincible that [[spoiler: Saber had the full assistance of Lancer, Archer, and Caster, and even then only Arash's suicidal Noble Phantasm could even the odds enough for Excalibur to match Ramesses' Dendera Light.]]
* {{Expy}}: Of [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Gilgamesh]], as he is a Heroic Spirit from a distant time period, having been a ruler in his life, an arrogance that belies his HiddenDepths, as well as being incredibly powerful.
* InvincibleVillain: Or InvincibleHero rather, given that Manaka is a VillainProtagonist. Manaka holds Rider in such high regard that she believes not even the Three Knight Classes united could bring him down, but has [[{{Yandere}} faith that Saber will pull through regardless]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He talks a big game and possesses a very high opinion of himself, but he forgives his Master for desecrating his wife's tomb, offers [[spoiler: the Isemi child a MercyKill]] if he should desire so and genuinely wishes to rule the modern world as to bring it into a new golden era. Not for nothing is the line "The Pharaoh's heart is as noble as the sun" used in his first POV sequence.
* LargeHam: He likes talking, that's for sure.
-->'''Rider:''' “Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Rejoice in it! Observe it! I will seek it! I have surely remembered your tenacity; there is nothing else in the world which hadn’t change since the world where I also ruled here! I want it! Because, I am the person that is destined to govern this world!”\\
'''Rider:''' “Anut and Set, it is good that you dwell in both of my arms! Astarte, wish me well so that the earth will be soaked in the blood of my battles after my glorious victory! I who am Horus and Ra will give happiness to the world when I get another life, from here on! O’ my beloved Nefertari, you will bless the call of Ozymandias as Hathor!”
* MagicKnight: He possesses an abnormal talent in the ways of Magecraft, being able to knock Misaya unconscious by just looking at her Familiar, and uses a crystal orb to view the battle between Saber and his Sphinx from afar. Additionally, he possesses a Reality Marble-like ability.
* MentalWorld: Possibly with Ramesseum Tentyris, which summons a massive amount of great Egyptian temples in a complex spanning miles from end to end. It is noted that many of the temples in it were not build in his lifetime, but as he is the King of Kings, the greatest king of Egypt, he naturally rules over the domain of lesser kings, including their temples.
* MythologyGag:
** Nasu mentioned that in his original vision of ''LightNovel/FateZero'', Iskander would have had an arrogant and narcissistic streak not unlike the future [[VideoGame/FateExtra Red Saber]] - however, Creator/GenUrobuchi wrote a far more charismatic version that Nasu liked so much that he shelved his Iskander in favor of Urobuchi's. Given his own temperament as well as the niche of being a powerful Rider-class king, it's easy to say that Ozymandias ''is'' this original vision of Iskander, albeit applied to a different historical figure.
** From his own backstory, his actions of not following Moses into the parted sea call in mind how the scene was handled in ''Film/TheTenCommandments''.
* ThePowerOfTheSun: As "Ra's Mighty Truth", he possesses Ra's almighty solar barge as a Noble Phantasm. It can supposedly reduce all of Tokyo to dust in the span of a couple of hours.
* OddFriendship: Seems to have sort-of struck one [[spoiler: with a boy who is strongly implied to be the Isemi who would become the next Holy War's Master of Rider.]] At very least [[spoiler: the little boy managed to calm Rider down from his anger upon being summoned through Nefertari's necklace, and then he properly joined the Grail War.]]
* ReadingsAreOffTheScale: He possesses an EX-rank in the Noble Phantasm parameter.
* RedBaron: "King of Kings", a title historically attributed to Ozymandias/Ramesses II.
* StoryBreakerPower: To say Ozymandias is the Gilgamesh of the First Grail War would be criminally ''understating'' just how powerful he is. Even on top of Saber-grade Magical Resistance, even on top of B-Rank Divinity, even on top of his Imperial Privilege, even on top of his A+ ''Protection of the Sun God'', he has ''three'' Noble Phantasms and the most powerful of them all is an ''EX-Rank Reality Marble''. That it took Excalibur Proto and Stella to defeat him ''after'' Manaka had his mana supply cut off just further proves how unbelievably strong he is.
* SuperPowerLottery: In addition to his skill Imperial Privilege that lets him obtain any other skill that he should desire, he possesses ''three'' Noble Phantasms, the weakest of which is compared to 3 Servants in strength.
* TwoGuysAndAGirl: Him, [[https://38.media.tumblr.com/d6e464efe7f29a0550abab0a2036747c/tumblr_ngktlil4QL1rye1gyo3_1280.jpg Moses, and Nefertari]] were this in the past.

The main character of Robert Louis Stevenson's 1886 novella Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. His Master is Tatsumi Kitano.
----
* AlchemyIsMagic: Though no Magus, he's skilled enough in the subject that he'd be willing to teach Tatsumi if the latter wanted. It's also how he managed to create the elixir that turns him into Hyde though that wasn't the intended effect.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: The elixir he made that turned him into Hyde was his attempt to become like the heroic spirits of legend.
* BreakoutCharacter: Of Prototype Fragments, while one of the more minor Servants of the work, his popularity with fans and Sakurai's regret in not giving him more of a role, led to him getting a short story in which he was the main character and becoming one of the promotional Servants for ''VideoGame/FateGrandOrder'' and a main character in one of said game's chapters.
* DoNotGoGentle: [[spoiler:Rather than allowing himself to simply vanish after Tatsumi is killed, Berserker instead opts to go out swinging and does so by attempting to take out Caster's Master himself in one last charge. Unfortunately for him, he fails.]]
* MadeOfIron: Though he's no great hero of legend compared to most of the other Servants, Berserker is surprisingly quite durable given his true identity [[spoiler:as seen during his LastStand in the story.]]
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: [[spoiler: As Hyde, Berserker an appearance similar to a werewolf with black fur covering his body, a large jaw, sharp fangs, and a beast-like, humanoid form. His eyes glow upon seeing the full moon.]]

One of the Nineteen Individuals to have taken up the identity of Hassan-I-Sabbah. Her Master was Seiji Jinga.
----
* ActionGirl: The only other female Servant in the story aside from Lancer. And while she doesn't directly win any fights, she still does plenty in the story to warrant her title as Assassin.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Her wish for the grail is to have someone she can touch without killing with her poison. [[spoiler:Paracelsus gives her that in the zombified corpse of Tatsumi Kitano.]]
* CoolMask: She wears the typical Hassan bone mask. Though unlike the others a face is beneath it.
* DoesNotLikeShoes: She's barefoot, wearing leggings that expose most of her feet.
* FriendToAllChildren: She loves kids and made sure in life to avoid killing them every time they appear and could complicate her job.
* KissOfDeath: Her preferred method of using her poison is to kiss the target while draining mana from them. The kiss melts the target's brain while filling them with so much bliss they are unable to feel the pain.
* KillEmAll: [[spoiler: Under Manaka's orders, Assassin proceeds to kill off the Master of Rider and all of his clansmen in order to cut off Rider's supply of mana so that he might be beaten during the Battle of Tokyo Bay]].
* MercyKill: [[spoiler:Kills the living corpse Tatsumi after realizing he had been worried about her]].
* [[OffWithHisHead Off with Her Head!]]: Her backstory. She had revealed her identity to the general she had as both a target and her current lover in the hopes he would kill her, causing her ally to appear and behead her in a split second. [[spoiler:Said person is strongly implied to be King Hassan, who kills all Hassans who stray from the path of Hassan]].

An alchemist from the Renaissance period and the one responsible both for creating the Alchemic system that is used by most alchemists of the modern era, as well as creating the Azoth sword. His Master is Master Reiroukan.
----
* AlchemyIsMagic: Considered to be the father of modern alchemy. He, in turn, considers all alchemists to be his children.
* ElementalPowers: Like [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Tohsaka Rin]], he is an Average One possessing an elemental affinity for five different elements.
* EnergyAbsorption: His Noble Phantasm can perform this, being able to power itself up by absorbing prana emitted from the user's opponents.
* ManipulativeBastard: He attempts to manipulate Hassan of Serenity and Arthur to make them leave Manaka's side.
* MookMaker: He can create artificial Phantasmal Beasts from the remnants of Elementals.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: He regrets [[spoiler: betraying Misaya and her father]] after he does it.
* PrettyBoy: [[http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Caster_(Fate/Prototype:_Fragments) Just look at him]].
* StartOfDarkness: Learning Manaka was connected to the Root caused him to place his nature as a Magus over his own morals, eventually helping her to release the Beast upon humanity.
* TheStoic: Though smiling and seemingly kind, he never exudes any particularly strong emotions.
* TearsOfBlood: He starts crying these during his final confrontation with Saber.

[[folder: Hiroki Sajyou]]

* AdultFear: In Volume 5 of ''Fragments'', he admits to Saber that he's concerned for Ayaka's safety should another Holy Grail War occur during her lifetime and her being forced to participate. Unfortunately for him, his fears end up coming true.
* DisappearedDad: Towards Ayaka, having died in previous Holy Grail War.
* GoodParents: Hiroki was this towards both his daughters when his wife was alive. He regrets that he couldn't be the best father to both after she passed away.
* TheMourningAfter: His wife's death affected him deeply. It caused him to bury himself in his lifestyle as a magus and resulted in him acting less like a father towards his daughters in the process. He regrets this however.
* NarratorAllAlong: It's revealed at the end of the final ''Fragments'' arc that he was the one writing all the extracts from an old notebook.
* NoNameGiven: In the OVA. His first name was finally revealed in the prequel series.
* ParentalFavoritism: Averted. Though he favors Manaka as a magus thanks to her talent, and would have picked her as his heir had she been born with more magical circuits, it's made clear that he loves both his daughters and is only strict with Ayaka because he's worried about her future.

The "Sword Emperor" of Arthurian legend. A particularly vicious Caesar, Lucius clashed with Arthur many times in his attempt to reintegrate his kingdom back into the Roman Empire.
----
* AnimalMotif: The Bear to Arthur's Dragon.
* BloodKnight: He ''really'' enjoyed fighting with Arthur. So much so that he even asks if there were any others like him in Britain since he planned on conquering it.
* CoolSword: Wielded Florent, the "sister" blade of Arthur's Clarent, in battle.
* EvilRedhead: He was basically Arthur's opposite. Being cruel and arrogant, and seeking to conquer others for no reason other than because he believes it's his given right as an Emperor of Rome.
* AGodAmI: Being an Emperor, he believes himself and others of like him such as Arthur to be gods on earth.

* {{Expy}}: Started out as the Enkidu to Ozymandias' Gilgamesh, but the two broke off their friendship due to political and ideological differences.
* MartialPacifist: Was an inheritor and practitioner of "Jacob's Limbs," an anti-angel martial art.
* SummonBiggerFish: As Ozymandias' gods were very real in this setting, Moses invoking his god's powers to smite the nation with plagues that polluted the source of the Egyptian pantheon's might as well as the kingdom's various resources. Ra, Horus, and the rest were unable to stymy the sequential onslaught with even their precious sun being blacked out by divine darkness.

* {{Ojou}}: Compared to Ayaka and her family, the Reiroukan family are stated to be far higher up in status and during the prequel novels it's shown that Misaya even had maids attending to her as a child. Her general behavior is even reminiscent of a classic arrogant noblewoman.

Added DiffLines:

* WeCanRuleTogether: Towards Saber. In the script for the OVA, she offers him the chance to switch Masters from Ayaka to her as he considers herself the strongest master in the war. Saber declines however, and calls Misaya out by pointing out her status as second-ranked Cherubim instead of the first ranked Seraphim which means she's not the strongest Master. Misaya does not take that well.

The Second Master, with the title of Cherubim. She Cherubim and the Master of Lancer. A confident if morally ambigous young woman, she is under the scion of the Reiroukan household of magi and attends the same school as Ayaka. Added DiffLines:

* NiceJobFixingItVillain: To a degree, her ordering Lancer to kill Ayaka on the off chance she might summon a Servant is what triggers Ayaka's accidental summoning of Saber in the first place.

Added DiffLines:

* ProperlyParanoid: Her desire to kill Ayaka at the beginning stems from the belief that she would summon a Servant just like her older sister did during the first grail war. Not long afterwards, she's proven to be right albeit it was by accident on Ayaka's part as she had no desire to take part in the grail war at first and it was Misaya's order to kill her that triggered it.
