Phantom Lord is the guild that was considered the single most powerful guild in Fiore before Fairy Tail came to prominence. An entire story arc is dedicated to a war that breaks out between the two guilds, which ends with Phantom Lord's defeat and ultimate disbandment for breaking guild rules and starting the war in the first place.

Upon learning of Lucy Heartfilia's membership in Fairy Tail, he decides to kidnap her and take control of her family's fortune, waging war against Fairy Tail.

* ArtEvolution: When he was first intruded, his design was rather silly and definitely invoked {{Narm}}. However within a few chapters and episodes, his design became more distinct and he ended up looking more {{Badass}} as a result.
* {{Badass}}: The fact that is is a Wizard Saint alone is qualification. His guild has two base of operations, one turns into a mecha, and it has a [[UnholyNuke giant cannon]] on it. Jose made sure that Phantom Lord was seriously stacked.
* BadPowersBadPeople: His "Shade" spell creates countless phantom-like {{Mooks}}. Not to mention just kicking up his aura makes people feel sick by being near him.

* BigBadWannabe: He sees his destruction of Fairy Tail and his defeat of Makarov as his chance to prove who the best is. While he nearly succeeds in the former, he utterly fails in the latter. Makarov obliterates him without even trying and in contrast to the later villains like [[TheDreaded Hades, Zeref, and Acnologia]], he's hardly a footnote.
* BlackEyesOfEvil: His eyes turn black when he fights Makarov in the anime and good lord does it look terrifying.

** She declares she's holding Lector hostage right as Sting gives her his heartfelt gratitude for saving him.
** Lastly, she holds Millianna hostage and shows her magic being sapped in front of Erza and Kagura just to provoke them.
