* MisplacedRetribution: She mistakenly blames Layla Heartfilia for her involvement in Grammi's demise. Except that Grammi inadvertently causes Layla's death because the former is unable to get Aquarius's key in time for the opening of Eclipse, and is subsequently killed by Zoldio.

* ApolgoeticAttacker: She sheds tears and apologizes as she tries suffocating Lucy, who had been quite hospitable toward her even as they were on opposite sides of a war, but was seemingly the only outlet for her rage against Layla for her involvement in Grammi's death.

* AplogoeticAttacker: She sheds tears and apologizes as she tries to suffocate Lucy, who had been quite hospitable toward her even as they were on opposite sides of a war, but was seemingly the only outlet for her rage against the late Layla for (supposedly) killing her own mother.

* MisplacedRetribution: She mistakenly assumes Layla Heartfilia killed her mother Grammi to regain Aquarius' key and extends this enmity towards Lucy. However, Aquarius sets the record straight about Grammi's demise.

* MisplacedRetribution: She holds a grudge against Layla Heartfilia for seemingly killing her mother Grammi to regain Aquarius' key, and tries to take it out on Lucy. In reality, Layla held no ill will toward Grammi even after putting herself on her deathbed to compensate for the key's absence; it was actually Zoldeo who killed her for it.

* AntiVillain: She is one of the the WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds variety. While she may harshly treat her subordinates, she's easily the most sympathetic member of the 12. She befriends Lucy, saves Natsu and Mirajane's lives, and provides valuable intel to Fairy Tail after realizing how wrong her misguided deeds were in trying to avenge her mother. When all is said and done, her only real antagonism towards Fairy Tail stems from the fact that [[MyCountryRightOrWrong she's a proud citizen of Alvarez]] and has no desire to betray the country she calls home.

* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: She lost Grammi as a child and, out of a misguided deed to avenge her, enacts a RoaringRampageOfRevenge on Lucy.

* ForcedTransformation: She turns Princess Hisui into a mouse for her own amusement. [[EvilCannotComprehendGood Much to her shock]], her father King Toma, comforts his daughter and confirms that he still loved her to Irene. This notably causes the sorceress to lose her sadistic smile. [[spoiler: Given her backstory, it's understandable why she has this reaction.]]

* OnlyMostlyDead: [[spoiler:Irene did not actually kill herself. She liberated her existence from her hellish torment inside a body suffering from complete Dragon Seed infestation. By the time of ''100 Years Quest'', she now lingers inside Wendy through enchantment and is eagerly awaiting a chance to migrate into a new body that is hers and hers alone and not twisted by Dragon Slayer corruption.]]

* ScaledUp: An accidental and deconstructed example. [[spoiler: As the inventor of Dragon Slayer magic, she was amongst the first to experience the downside of this magic. While she can use Transformation magic to return to her human form, she still retains the senses of her dragon form, which are largely incompatible with the human body.]]

* {{Stripperiffic}}: Continuing the trend set by Brandish and [=DiMaria=], Irene's outfit has the trifecta of midriff-barring, a top with a massive CleavageWindow, and type-A ZettaiRyouiki. The bottom half of her outfit hardly covers the tops of her thighs.

* {{Weredragon}}: She is a [[WasOnceAMan formerly human]] Dragon Slayer whose overuse of her magic transformed her into a dragon. Her current human form is the result of transformation magic that Zeref cast on her, but is still a dragon underneath her appearance, and can shift between both forms at will.

* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: She has no problem stripping naked and getting into someone else's bath in the middle of a warzone.
