After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, ex-Special Forces operative Wade Wilson agrees to a radical procedure to cure his disease with a superhuman HealingFactor. Unfortunately, though the procedure saves his life, it also causes the cancer to spread through his entire body and brain, leaving him horribly scarred and completely insane. Now Wade searches for the man responsible for his new condition to "express some rage" as the HeroicComedicSociopath mercenary, Deadpool.

* AdaptationalDyeJob: Due to his condition making him bald it's easy to forget, but in the comics Wade's hair is blonde, while here he's a brunet.
* AdaptationSpeciesChange: In the comics Deadpool was a human with Wolverine's HealingFactor grafted on to him; here he's a mutant whose genes have been dormant most of his life.
* AdaptationalAttractiveness: While he still won't be winning any beauty contests, Deadpool is shown to be much less scarred than his comic-book counterpart (although even that tend to vary between comics). Being portrayed by Ryan Reynolds also adds to this, though the dialogue still pokes fun at how scarred Wade is (Weasel comments "You look like an avocado had sex with an older, more disgusting avocado"), and Deadpool himself laments in a trailer how the process made him "un-fuckable".
* AdaptationalHeroism: A minor case. Deadpool is still definitely a HeroicComedicSociopath, but he also genuinely and honestly loves Vanessa, and his love for her is presented as his biggest redeeming quality. Prior to getting his powers, the movie goes to great lengths to show that [[NeverHurtAnInnocent he would never kill anyone who didn't deserve it]], and that he has a much stronger moral compass than the average mercenary. * {{Troll}}: Deadpool is the master of getting on others' nerves. Even when he's in immense pain, that won't stop him from annoying his attacker to death. The most frequent example is calling Ajax "Francis".

* BirdsOfAFeather: Vanessa and Wade instantly get along due to sharing a dark sense of humor, a sharp wit, a talkative nature, problems against authority, etc. At one point even Ajax remarks that she and Wade have a lot in common.

* MoralityChain: She's what drives Wade to not be a completely insane killer.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite acting snarkily callous and assholeish towards everything (and his BrutalHonesty), Weasel actually acts very decently with Wade once he learns of his predicament, helping him with everything he needs and even flat-out refusing to sell him out ''as he's being strangled by the superhumanly powerful Angel Dust''. And afterwards? The first thing he does is to call Wade to warn him. Also, upon learning that Wade has cancer, the first thing Weasel does is try to serve Wade herbal remedies instead of alcohol.

* MeaningfulName: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]], while Weasel is a coward, he doesn't release any information on his clientele, even when Ajax and Angel Dust try to shake him down for it..

* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: During the LockAndLoadMontage, she notes (unprompted) that Wade's gathered all the guns in the house. Wade sees through it and gets her to fork over her hidden pistol. [[spoiler:Which ends up being the only gun he didn't forget in Dopinder's taxi.]]

* CorruptTheCutie: In his first appearance, he's an {{Adorkable}} taxi driver. And then he takes Deadpool's romantic advice for getting back his girl from her much better looking lover (who is, incidentally, his cousin).

* RunningGag: Deadpool doesn't wear a wallet while suited up, so Dopinder is forced to make do with a high five as his fare. He seems okay with it.

* CivvieSpandex: A leather jacket and a scarf overtop her actual uniform.

* EmoTeen: Deadpool calls her that reocurringly, though if anything she seems closer to a Goth-ish person.

* OnlySaneMan: Way more level-headed than Deadpool (not that it's a very high bar to begin with).

* PintSizedPowerhouse: Tiny compared to Deadpool and especially Colossus, but her powers have her pack one hell of a wallop.

* UnexpectedCharacter: She is an ''extremely'' obscure X-Men character in the comics who has no connection to Deadpool, but she appears in his spin-off movie. This was done solely so that Deadpool could react to her name.

* {{Adorkable}}: Let's start with the fact that his first couple scenes have him eating cereal out of a bowl at least three sizes too small for him and lecturing his ward on the importance of eating breakfast in the morning. Near the end of the film, he catches a ride with Deadpool in Dopinder's cab--he's squished in the backseat next to Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and he's casually sipping a drink from a cup that's probably normal-sized, but comically small in his giant hands.

* BigBrotherMentor: He's trying to mentor Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Also tries to be one to Deadpool, who he considers a rowdy, misguided (and heavily armed) child.

* TheComicallySerious: He's a total boyscout when it comes to morality and manners. Also, he repeatedly gets humiliated and disrespected by Deadpool, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Angel Dust.

* GentleGiant: He's a towering mountain of organic steel skin, but is a kind and compassionate man who prefers NOT to resort to violence when he can help it. [[BewareTheNiceOnes But watch your ass if he has to do so.]]

* LargeAndInCharge: Nuff said.

* WrongGenreSavvy: He seems to think he's in a traditional PG-13 Superhero Movie. He is so very, very wrong!

* BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil: He went through the torture gauntlet as a subject before he became the operator. From what he tells Wade, it's likely that the process broke him.

* BlessedWithSuck: Tells Wade that he gained enhanced reflexes from his procedure, but the tradeoff was that all of his nerve endings were burnt out, preventing him from feeling pain, or ''anything'' for that matter, including emotion.

* DullSurprise: Purposefully. Ajax is (as he himself tells Wade) emotionally dead inside, so his delivery of practically everything is stuck on DullSurprise.

* EvilCounterpart: To Deadpool. Both of them have undergone human mutant experiments that have granted amazing abilities, such as not feeling pain. They each go by aliases, with their real names being alliterative. However, while Wade may initially look insane, he's actually a NiceGuy (who just happens to be psychotic); Ajax may look and sound like a sane man, but he's an AxCrazy sociopath with no redeemable qualities.

* ForTheEvulz: "I'm not putting you back in this thing because I have to, it's because I want to."
* {{Genius Bruiser}}: Ajax is simultaneously a brilliant scientist, the head of the program that develops superheroes and a ruthless fighter who goes toe-to-toe with Deadpool.

* MadeOfIron: He feels no pain which keeps him fighting, but pain or not, he should be completely hobbled way earlier than he is. He's just that tough. It takes a lot of beating to get knocked down. [[spoiler:And to die, a BoomHeadshot is enough.]]

* NotSoStoic: Justified. Getting hit by a cargo container isn't something you don't react to, even if you can't feel it.
* PetTheDog: His friendliness towards Angel Dust may be a subversion, as he claims he [[TheSociopath can't feel anything for anyone]], and is only friendly towards her because of her temper, and superior strength.
* TheSociopath: He observes that he can't feel anything both in the sense of not feeling any pain and in the sense of feeling no emotional response. Deadpool even calls him a psychopath.

* TortureTechnician: Oh he's utterly ruthless when it comes to causing pain.
* VillainousFriendship: Ajax seems to be legitimately friendly with Angel Dust and the feeling seems mutual, however see PetTheDog above.

* WouldHurtAChild: In a deleted scene, [[spoiler:she pins Teenage Negasonic Warhead to the ground tries to punch TNW's head in. The latter's counter attack was what totaled the carrier.]]

* DirtyCoward: ''Immediately'' runs when Deadpool confronts him, and folds like wet paper and (again) also immediately tries to reveal the location of his boss to save his own skin. Wade gives him some ColdBloodedTorture anyway.

* GoryDiscretionShot: Deadpool turns the camera away from the scene of him being tortured to death, saying that the audience doesn't want to see this.

* ObviouslyEvil: His black suit, creepy grin and vague promises do not inspire trust. Wade begins making quips about him being a sex offender immediately after meeting him.
