* NotTheIntendedUse: Of all people, ''Salvador'' actually makes a decent non-Zero sniper, due to No Kill Like Overkill's interaction with critical damage allowing him to float massive amounts of potential damage with high-crit weapons.

* CharacterDevelopment: In ''2'' he's mostly stoic, professional, mysterious and very no-nonsense. In ''Tales'' he shows a wider range of emotions like enjoying Rhys' compliment (if he says [=Zer0=] is really cool) and some annoyance with Moxxi's obvious DoubleEntendre. By ''3'' he's casually cracking jokes, calling Katagawa Jr. a douchebag, telling some of his old stories, like a time he beheaded a guy with a crab fork, and his implied crush on Lor.

* SkillGateCharacter: Axton has an easy-to-use Action Skill in the same vein as Mordecai's, with his turret providing easy damage at range, and his specialty in increasing grenade damage pairs wonderfully with Torgue guns. After Normal difficulty, however, the turret drops off in power and becomes much easier for enemies to destroy, and the importance of elemental damage on higher difficulties makes most Torgue guns useless, while Axton's over-emphasis on the turret and lack of bonuses to his own damage output causes him to fall behind all of the other characters.

* SkillGateCharacter: In general, Gaige is designed as the beginner-friendly character among the six Vault Hunters, particularly for those who casually play a FirstPersonShooter in single-player:

* DropTheHammer: Her melee weapon is a claw hammer.

** StandardizedLeader: Axton's character design and gameplay is the closest to "standard FPS generic soldier man" out of the 6 playable characters (and likely the entire series); he's a JackOfAllStats, his special power is very simple and automated, most of his skills are generic buffs that don't require much tactical thought (whereas characters like [=Zer0=], Gaige, and Krieg have to actively focus on a specific playstyle to utilize many of their skills), and his version of RegeneratingHealth is the closest to the standard sort used in most FPS games.

* PowerfulButInaccurate: Gaige's Anarchy skill grants a boost to damage as she gains Anarchy stacks (obtained by reloading empty magazines during combat), but it also tanks her gun accuracy. Some of her other skills can help offset the penalties to a degree, but not enough to allow remotely precise shots with large stack.

** Discord grants you this at the cost of Anarchy stacks, but this can be manually disabled by prematurely reloading.

* TheHero: Maya is the only one of the new Vault Hunters who's not on Pandora to find a challenge, nor is she wanted for any previous crime. All she wants is to learn about the nature and heritage of Sirens. She's also the only Vault Hunter who's shown altruism by refusing to execute innocent civilians and stopping the Order that raised her from using her to terrorize her planet. However...

* OedipusComplex: It's implied that she had something of an Electra Complex towards Brother Sophis in the Wedding Day Massacre DLC. When asked if she had a loved one in her life, she notes that there was an older man once who's dead now.
