!!Yeager Family

[[folder:Grisha Yeager]]
!!Grisha Yeager
!!!Voiced by: Creator/HiroshiTsuchida (JP), Chris Hury (EN)
The father of Eren and adoptive father of Mikasa, Grisha is a doctor who is highly regarded for his work in the past when he helped cure a plague. He was out of town on business when the Colossal Titan broke down the gates of Wall Maria. While he vanished afterwards, Eren later remembers that beforehand, he forcefully injected Eren with a strange substance heavily implied to be what gave Eren the power to transform into a Titan.
* BadassBeard[=/=]BeardOfEvil: [[spoiler: His Titan form has a thick, Viking-like beard that shrouds the whole lower half of its face. Due to the ambiguous and violent nature of his actions, it's unclear what his alignment or goals were.]] Nonetheless, Historia seems to imply that his motives were for humanity's benefit.
* BrokenTears: After hearing of the fall of Wall Maria and while injecting Eren with something heavily implied to be what made him a Titan. [[spoiler: It was.]]
* CannibalismSuperpower: [[spoiler:He devoured the mother and children of the Reiss family, and then was eaten by Eren to grant his son Shifting powers and the memories of the murdered Reiss family.]]
* DisappearedDad: He went on a business trip just a few hours before the fall of Wall Maria, and after briefly reuniting with his son, it was unknown where he had disappeared to afterwards. [[spoiler:[[DeadAllAlong He was eaten by Eren's mindless Titan form shortly after injecting him]]. It's implied Eren only gained his Shifter and Coordinate abilities through that action.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:He let's himself be eaten by Eren so he could pass the Coordinate to him.]]
* GoodParents: He's shown to be very protective of Eren, particularly the time where he nearly got killed saving Mikasa, and we get a brief shot of him with BrokenTears after hearing of the Titan conquest of Zhiganshina, pleading for the safety of his family. He treated Mikasa like she was his own daughter as well.
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: [[spoiler:His lower half remained after his death, suggesting Eren bit him in half.]]
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: A side-effect of the serum he injects Eren with.
* LovecraftianSuperpower: [[spoiler: He possessed the power of Titans, and gave up his own life so that Eren could control it.]]
* TheMedic: A famous and well-respected doctor, responsible for curing a plague that threatened the citizens -- among those he saved was Hannes' wife. Though living on the very edge of human territory, his reputation was sufficient for patients living within the Interior to summon him.
* OpenMindedParent: He is not necessarily against Eren joining the Survey Corps, only that he does it with all of his heart and acts on his own belief.
* PlotCoupon: The key to the Yeager residence's basement, which later finds its way into Eren's possession. The basement is believed by Eren to hold a important secret that may contribute to humanity's victory against the Titans.
* PutOnABus: Disappeared to parts unknown after the fall of Wall Maria, effectively leaving his young son and daughter to fend for themselves. [[spoiler:It's later revealed that [[BusCrash he died shortly after the last time everyone (but Eren) saw him]].]]
* SmallRoleBigImpact: He appeared in only two scenes thus far, and has long been missing. However, whatever he was doing in the locked basement of his house has great significance to humanity's survival. He entrusts Eren with the basement's key and gives him the mission to reach the basement no matter what. Presumably, the injection given to his son granted him the power of Titans. [[spoiler:Turning Eren into a mindless Titan who ate Grisha is what gives Eren both the power to Titan Shift as well as the powers of the Coordinate.]] Big impact indeed.
** It's gone even further than that [[spoiler: Zeke, The Beast Titan, apparently knew Grisha personally.]]
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Possibly. Historia muses that Grisha [[spoiler:murdered the Reiss family and stole the Coordinate ability]] just so humanity could be free from [[spoiler:the First King's will that ties them down behind the Walls]]. It's not yet known why it had to be Eren, and not him.
* WouldHurtAChild: [[spoiler:During his assault on the Reiss family chapel, the majority of his victims were children, including one who was being uselessly shielded by his terrified mother.]]
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: [[spoiler:Told Keith that he's wiser and braver than anyone else among the walls and the Survey Corps are special, chosen individuals that are proof that human imagination and soul are free. [[SubvertedTrope This ends terribly]], as when Shadis ascends to be commander of the Survey Corps, he turns out to be not anywhere near competent enough at the job to truly make a difference.]]

[[folder: Carla Yeager]]
!!Carla Yeager
!!!Voiced by: Creator/YoshinoTakamori (JP), Jessica Cavanagh (EN)
The mother of Eren and adoptive mother of Mikasa, whose death at the hands of a Titan leads Eren to vow to exterminate every single Titan.
* AngerBornOfWorry: She gets into a heated argument with Eren over his desire to join the Survey Corps, lecturing that joining the military is suicide.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Her being devoured after getting her legs crushed in the manga looks downright tame compared to having her spine broken and top half crushed before being eaten.
* CynicismCatalyst: To Eren; her death ignites his undying hatred of all Titans.
* DeathByOriginStory: Since her death is the reason why Eren hates Titans.
* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: She was extremely loving to her children. She treated Mikasa the same as Eren despite the fact that she was Mikasa's adoptive mother for a year.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: Subverted. She makes a HeroicSacrifice, but quietly pleads for them not to leave her. She dies desperately pounding against the Titan's grasp in the anime.
* GoodParents: Despite Carla's brief appearance, it's obvious that she loved her son and daughter, both of whom only have good memories of her.
* HeroicSacrifice: Pleads with Hannes to abandon her to the Titans, so that he could save her children at least.
* HesitantSacrifice: Like many other [[HeroicSacrifice Heroic Sacrifices]] in this series, [[RealityEnsues she changes her mind right in the face of getting eaten]]. She muffles herself so that her children don't hear her.
* IWillOnlySlowYouDown: When her legs are crushed, she tells Eren and Mikasa to leave her behind so they can escape the Titans.
* TheLostLenore: Hinted to be one to Grisha, as Eren noted his father's strange behavior after her death.
* MissingMom: Being eaten by a Titan will do that to you.
* MotherlySidePlait: Fitting her role as a good mother to Eren and Mikasa.
* PleaseDontLeaveMe: While watching Hannes flee with the children, she suddenly recalls happy moments with her family and has to cover her mouth to keep them from hearing her beg them not to leave her.
* PlotTriggeringDeath: Her death leads to Eren's quest to destroy all Titans, as well as her husband's mysterious actions.
* SacrificialLamb: Eren and Mikasa watch their loving mother die a horrible, messy death two chapters into the story. That should give a hint at what kind of story this is.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: In the anime, Carla and her son have almost identical faces.

!!Other members of the military

[[folder:Keith Shadis]]
!!Keith Shadis
!!!Voiced by: Tsuguo Mogami (JP), Creator/PatrickSeitz (EN)
The instructor for the 104th Trainee Corps. He is a harsh, but effective commander that seems to have known Eren's father in the past. He was a former commander of the Survey Corps before resigning to become a drill instructor.
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Likely a result of grilling trainees in the sun over several years.
* BaldOfAwesome: Years after retiring as the Survey Corps' commander, not a single hair is left on his head.
* BeardOfEvil: A neatly-groomed goatee. He's not evil, but he ''is'' a man to be feared.
* BreakTheHaughty: [[spoiler:After finally getting his wish of becoming Survey Corps commander, Shadis was very proud and confident he could win over the Titans, but repeated failures put a stop to that.]]
* ChekhovsGunman: The Survey Corps commander seen at the very beginning comes back later on as the crew's drill sergeant. [[spoiler:Later, it is revealed that Shadis is an old friend of the Yeagers. He was the one who found Grisha wandering outside the Walls, inadvertently introduced him to Carla, and was also the person who rescued Eren from the woods the night Grisha disappeared.]].
* ChewingTheScenery: Creator/PatrickSeitz pulls out the stops and goes over the top when verbally abusing the cadets during training.
-->'''Keith:''' ''[to [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Sasha]]]'' YOU ARE OFFICIALLY ON MY SHITLIST! JUST WHO THE HELL ARE YOU!?!
* CorporalPunishment: Keith has no patience for screwing around, and punishes recruits with headbutts or even lifting them up by their heads if they cross him. He forces Sasha to run until she collapses as punishment for stealing food
* DeathGlare: The setting his eyes seem to be perpetually stuck in.
* DespairEventHorizon: Crossed it when he was commander of the Survey Corps, after a failed and fruitless expedition resulted only in the deaths of countless soldiers.
* DidNotGetTheGirl: [[spoiler:It is implied a younger Keith held affections for Carla, but gave up when she fell for Grisha.]]
* DrillSergeantNasty: This is his preferred method of preparing recruits for the harsh reality of life in the military, subjecting them to endless amounts of verbal (and physical) abuse. He is so effective, in fact, that even after several months of active service in the Survey Corps, Sascha is apparently still more afraid of him than of the Titans.
* GiveHimANormalLife: [[spoiler:Tried to do this to Eren by deliberately sabotaging his training gear. [[{{Determinator}} Eren being Eren, of course it failed.]]]]
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: After everything he's done for humanity, Shadis considers himself worthless. [[spoiler:You probably would too though if you tried to lead the Survey Corps for years but it's blatant your ability to do so is practically nothing compared to Erwin's. He even shown noting in a flashback, after Eren manages to stay balanced on his broken training gear for an second, that he's powerless to change even just Eren's mind.]]
* IJustWantToBeSpecial: [[spoiler:In his younger years he desperately aspired to change the world and become a perfect commander, but reality was much crueler than Shadis imagined.]]
* MarriedToTheJob: [[spoiler:It is implied that Shadis began distancing himself from friends after becoming commander, devoting himself to his work in hopes he may finally achieve something in his life. With his stepping down as commander...he certainly wouldn't have felt like it helped.]]
* MiseryBuildsCharacter: He's a firm believer in this, and uses verbal abuse as well as harsh disciplinary methods to prepare his recruits for life as a soldier.
* PartingWordsRegret: [[spoiler:Before she was killed, the last time Shadis spoke with Carla he took his anger out on her and insulted her.]]
* PetTheDog: He spares victims of Titan attacks from his DrillSergeantNasty routine. It's explained by another officer that the reason for this is because the point of said routine is to break recruits down so that they can be rebuilt into soldiers. As the Titan attacks that they survived would've already broken them down, tearing into them would be pointlessly cruel.
** [[spoiler:After Shadis tells the protagonists what he knew of Grisha, Eren shares in Shadis' HeroicSelfDeprecation sentiments, saying that he isn't special either, just the son of a special man. Shadis tells him Carla's response to him talking her down about the ordinary people's inability to comprehend doing great deeds - that Eren doesn't need to become great, he's already great...because he was born into this world.]]
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: At least, enough to consider that Eren's problem was faulty equipment, and not him simply being incompetent. His job requires him to be harsh and brutal, but he's also able to recognize the potential in each of the trainees. Much later on, it was revealed that [[spoiler: it was Shadis himself who sabotaged Eren's equipment in an attempt to save him from dying a pointless death outside the Walls. However, seeing Eren momentarily manage to keep his balance on the broken gear made Shadis change his mind.]]
** ''A Choice with no Regrets'' shows that he was this as Commander of the Survey Corps as well, arguing with Zackly to get Erwin's Long-Range Scouting Formation approved and trusting the latter when it's clear that he would resort to illegal means to get it approved, realizing Erwin's actions are for the sake of humanity foremost.
*** [[spoiler:However, in Volume 18, he's seen bluntly refusing to try Erwin's formation after he has it proposed to him earlier in his life, so significant was his {{Pride}}.]]
* RetiredBadass: Implied, as he survived in the Survey Corps long enough to become Commander in the era ''prior'' to Erwin's tactics improving survival rates significantly.
* ShoutOut: Several of his quotes in the dub were taken from ''Film/FullmetalJacket'', specifically the character Gunnery Sergeant Hartman.
* SurvivorsGuilt: When asked about Keith's personal life, Isayama noted he doesn't have a family because he doesn't believe he deserves happiness after so many died under his command. [[spoiler:Before he lashes out at Carla, bystanders are talking about how the unfortunate pattern that his expeditions keep ending bloodily and he's the only constant survivor of them... while Erwin's squad keeps staying intact.]]
* VeteranInstructor: He was the commander of the Survey Corps in 845, when the Colossal Titan destroyed Wall Maria. At some point in the following two years, he stepped down from his command and became an instructor.
* UseYourHead: Headbutting seems to have been his standard method to punish recruits. In a side chapter of ''A Choice with no Regrets'', he actually headbutts ''Levi'' when called in to initiate the three problem recruits. The latter doesn't flinch.

[[folder:Darius Zackly]]
!!Commander-in-Chief Darius Zackly
!!!Voiced by: Hideaki Tezuka (JP), Brian Mathis (EN)
The supreme commander of the military, with authority over all three branches. He is the judge at Eren's trial, and holds absolute authority over his fate. After the trial, he decides to give custody of Eren to the Survey Corps.
* BrokenPedestal: Erwin and Pixis are momentarily distraught when they find out that the great commander Zackly spent most of his lifetime harbouring a petty grudge against the monarchy, then indulging in gratuitous torture once the nobles are arrested.
* ChekhovsGunman: After passing judgement on Eren, he is not seen until his timely appearance during the overthrowing of the fake monarchy, where his authority comes into play.
* ColdBloodedTorture: He gleefully tortures the arrested nobles, revealing a sadistic personality beneath his reasonable mask.
* CoolOldGuy: He establishes himself by granting custody of Eren to the Survey Corps, but later confirms this when he arrives during Erwin's trial and has the King's Court taken into custody at gunpoint. Turns out to be a very dark subversion however; his cool demeanor masks a very psychotic and vindictive personality.
* TheCavalry: He arrives at the King's Court to settle matters, bringing news that the monarchy's misdeeds have been exposed and that he has seized control of the Central Brigade. Under his authority, Erwin is set free and all military branches officially no longer answering to the Monarchy.
* TheJudge: He oversees and passes judgement on matters concerning conflicts between the military branches.
* KickTheSonOfABitch: A dark {{deconstruction}}. Brutally torturing the captured nobles for no meaningful reason is one thing, [[AssholeVictim since it's pretty hard to pity the guys who tried to abandon half of humanity to die horrendous deaths]] [[DirtyCoward just to save their own asses]]. ''Rigging them up to a makeshift machine that forces them to consume their own excrement'' is when Zackly passes right into creepy old guy territory, making him just as bad as those uppity nobles.
* MinorMajorCharacter: He is the ultimate power amongst all three military branches, but rarely seen onscreen.
* NominalHero: He is seeming more and more like this all the time.
* NotInThisForYourRevolution: He admits to Erwin that he participated in the rebellion not for grand causes like saving the rest of humanity, but rather to root out the monarchy, whom he saw as undeserving of the military.
* NotSoStoic: For most of his onscreen appearance, he makes no overt expressions, but when he and Erwin are alone in a carriage following the overthrowing of the fake monarchy, Darius reveals his true colours by telling Erwin he had always wanted to snuff them out, though not for selfless reasons such as saving humanity. Suddenly, he starts gloating all the way through his speech, indicating just how much satisfaction he got from seeing the puppet king and his subjects getting humiliated during the coup.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He calmly and reasonably weighs the evidence presented to him, and accepts Erwin's proposal. He turns out to be the highest authority not involved with the GovernmentConspiracy, and stands against the Monarchy along with Erwin. Even after the reveal of his less than savory hobbies, he's still running a competent administration, and continues to defer to Erwin and Pixis's judgement on matters.
* {{Sadist}}: Once he gets to torturing the nobles, he can be seen shedding tears of joy and giggling like a maniac, claiming his way of humiliating them is ''art''.
** He later states wanting to publicly reveal his torturing of them, in spite of Pixis repeatedly telling him that no, it's horrible and would make the public distrust the military in the wake of their coup even more.
* TheStoic: He is utterly unfazed by people yelling at each other or Levi beating the crap out of Eren in his courtroom.
* StoicSpectacles: Intelligent glasses for a calm, controlled man.
* TokenEvilTeammate: He is this for the revolutionaries since he is not actually out to save humanity or anything, but rather joins up with the good guys for his own reasons. He also has a penchant for ColdBloodedTorture, so turns out he's not quite a benevolent as he first appeared, either.

!!House Reiss

[[folder:Rod Reiss]]
!!Rod Reiss

The father of Historia, a HeroicBastard living under the alias Krista Renz -- Lord Rod Reiss. Rod abandoned his daughter to be raised on a farm owned by the Reiss family, but came to claim her shortly after the fall of Wall Maria. Confronted by members of the 1st Brigade, Reiss allowed his mistress to be murdered and ordered Historia to live under a new identity if she wished to live. In truth, the Reiss family are the true rulers of mankind and part of the GovernmentConspiracy within the Walls. Lord Reiss is the ''true'' ruler of mankind, with the King merely a figurehead that allows him to rule from the shadows.
* AmbiguouslyEvil: He ''claims'' he's doing what's in humanity's best interests, and we really don't know enough about what's going on to contradict this. Historia ends up vouching for her father, and there ''do'' seem to be some much more serious external threats, but his actions are still seemingly quite damning. Tying Eren up in a creepy, bizarre dungeon and hanging around [[SerialKiller Kenny]] hasn't really helped his case all that much, either.
* CallingTheOldManOut: After Reiss spends quite a bit of time sweet-talking and manipulating Historia, Kenny points out to her that he's not the good man he says he is. Historia's terrible life was all because he was horny for a servant (despite being the ruler of all humanity). That the only reason he let her live was because of her blood and all he really cared about was himself.
* DisappearedDad: Historia only met her father when she was 10-years-old, when he tried to take his mistress and daughter to safety. However, he ended up abandoning one to die and forced the other to take an alias and go into hiding.
* ExactWords: While manipulating Historia, he claims that [[spoiler: if the Coordinate ability stayed in the Reiss family, that "Even ridding this world of the Titans would have been ''possible''." But Historia soon realizes that even though they had this power all along, they never actually used it against the Titans. Rod then admits that while they had the power to do so, they never did because they inherited the will of the First King.]]
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: [[spoiler: He outright states to [[TheDragon Kenny]] (who is about as ObviouslyEvil as we have gotten in this series) that he trusts him, and is it really all ''that'' surprising to find out which of the two of them turns out to be the bigger threat?]]
* IdiotBall: Rod decides that it is a good idea to have Historia transform into a "combat" Titan larger than the cave they are in. Had he had succeeded in having her transform, he probably would have been killed when her Titan breaks the ceiling.
** Lampshaded by Kenny, who wonders if Rod knew that much about Titans at all.
** Worse. Even if Historia had agreed, and her titan form ''didn't'' smash the ceiling, there's no guarantee that it wouldn't eat Rod and Kenny ''first.''
* KickTheDog: Lord Reiss gives up his mistress and watches her be murdered without a second thought. However, he's unable to let them kill his daughter and [[PetTheDog spares her at the last moment]].
* ManipulativeBastard: He is manipulating [[spoiler:Historia into becoming a Titan Shifter and eating Eren so that she'll acquire the Coordinate ability, and brainwashing her into being absolutely loyal to him so that he will be able to control everyone through her.]]
** At the same time, Rod is also manipulating [[spoiler: Eren into thinking that due to his father's actions, humanity will be ultimately doomed to extinction because the Coordinate ability is no longer in the possession of the Reiss family, which according to Rod, is the only family who can use the Coordinate power to its maximum potential. Even though they never actually used it to save humanity in the 100 years of possessing it.]]
* MrExposition: Rod's lips reveal many secrets that mankind (and the audience) have long been kept in the dark about.
* MysteriousParent: Lord Reiss, the father Historia only met once when she was 10. He is hinted to be an important figure connected to the Wall Cult, and later revealed to be the ''true'' ruler.
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler: After Historia shatters the vial of "combat Titan" and he sees Squad Levi about to rescue Eren, he licks it up, becoming the Titan he was preparing to turn Historia into and goes on a rampage.]]
* PetTheDog: Spared Historia if she agreed to changing her name and keeping her identity secret. [[spoiler: Later subverted as it turned out he mainly kept her alive because he needed her blood since all his other children had died.]]
* ShadowDictator: Reiss is the real ruler of mankind, though only a select few know him as anything more than a minor nobleman.
* SoleSurvivor: Of [[spoiler:Grisha's attack on the chapel]]. His wife and all of his children present in the church died.
* SuicidalCosmicTemperTantrum: When Historia ''rejects'' the vial of Titan serum and smashes it on the ground, the first thing he does is try to lick it up, and then go after the ''largest concentration of humans he can find.''
* TomTheDarkLord: Assuming it isn't short for anything, Rod isn't the most impressive-sounding name for being the actual ruler of humanity. His brother has a much more impressive-sounding one, which fits given that he was the original king until he, and his daughter, bit the dust.
* UnfortunateNames: He has ''six'' children, and his name is ''Rod''. It doesn't help that his last name is derived from the German word for ''Titan'', especially given the extraordinary number of Titan-related dick jokes that already permeated the fandom prior to his introduction as a character.
* UnreliableExpositor: The information Rod provided while playing MrExposition might be true. However, given his end-goal regarding Historia, there's a very good chance he had to distort the truth, or outright lie at certain points in order to achieve it.
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler: Kenny is just using Rod to further his own ambitions.]]
* UsedToBeASweetKid: In Chapter 68, [[spoiler:Historia gets a glimpse of his memories as she finishes him off]]. She sees that he used to be an idealistic youth who wanted to use the Coordinate to free humanity from the Titans. [[spoiler:Seeing his own brother and daughter, who both swore not to succumb to the First King's will succumb anyway, broke him.]]
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler: He slowly but surely loses his composure as the Survey Corps draw closer and even more so once Kenny's betrayal is revealed. But after Historia rejects his order to eat Eren and shatters the vial of Titan serum, he snaps completely and grabs her while screaming in a rage. Not to mention what he does after that...]]
* WalkingSpoiler: His existence provides hints of the greater conspiracy within the Walls.
* YourCheatingHeart: Had an affair with a house servant, who gave birth to his bastard daughter. Even though he was already married with children of his own.

[[folder:Frieda Reiss]]
!!Frieda Reiss
!!!Voiced by: Creator/YokoHikasa (Japanese), Dawn M. Bennett (English)
Lod Reiss' eldest daughter, and Historia's half-sister. In secret, she befriended Historia and taught her how to read while encouraging her to become someone the people could adore. She possessed the power of the Coordinate, and was killed during Grisha's raid on the chapel. Her own lingering memories exist within Eren, and Historia unconsciously based her "Krista Lenz" persona on her.
* BeautyEqualsGoodness: Beautiful and kind-hearted, even being the only member of the Reiss family to show her sister any affection.
* BerserkButton: After Historia innocently tells her that she tried to climb over the fence around the farm to follow her, Freida became absolutely ''livid'' and violently lashed out at Historia for disobeying her.
* BigSisterInstinct: Quite clearly adores Historia, which is good, considering how everyone else related to Historia felt about her.
* {{Bishojo}}: She was a great beauty, just like her younger sister.
* CompellingVoice: Her powers appear to be tied to spoken commands, [[spoiler:and is later revealed to have previously held the Coordinate power inherited by Eren]].
* CoolBigSis: To Historia, her younger half-sister.
* CoolButInefficient: As a Reiss who inherited [[spoiler: the Coordinate ability, she has full access to its power, has the potential to manipulate all the Titans and could even eliminate them all. Too bad that like all the previous Reiss's she also inherits the will of the First King, which makes her feel humanity deserves their fate. So outside of wiping the occasional memory, she never actually uses this ability for anything. Which is why Eren's father chooses to break the cycle and steal the ability from the Reiss family.]]
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: [[spoiler: Grisha tore off her Titan's head with his teeth, taking the entire spinal cord with it. Suffice to say, she did not survive being eaten]].
* DeadAllAlong: According to official records, she was murdered along with the rest of her family by bandits while in a chapel which the bandits proceeded to burn down. [[spoiler: However, it's later revealed that she was eaten by Grisha Yaeger and is the source of Eren's Coordinate power.]]
* GirlOfMyDreams: A non-romantic example. Our first glimpse of her is when Eren has a vision, seeing her brushing her hair at her dresser.
* HeadbuttOfLove: Shares one with Historia prior to erasing her memory.
* HowDoIShotWeb: [[spoiler: She was inexperienced with using her Titan form, and did not know how to tap into its "unlimited strength", allowing Grisha to overpower and kill her]].
* TheIngenue: Historia's "Krista" persona is based upon lingering memories of Frieda, beloved by the locals for her gentle and loving personality.
* JediMindTrick: She commands Historia to forget about her, instantly erasing the girl's memory. It's clear she's done this repeatedly, though some echo of Frieda remains in Historia's subconscious.
* LivingMacGuffin: Like Eren, she possessed the power of the Coordinate. She regularly erased Historia's memories of their time together.
* LovecraftianSuperpower: [[spoiler: A Titan Shifter, and stated to have unlimited strength]].
* MeaningfulName: Hers is Scandinavian for "beautiful/beloved". It also incorporates the German word for "peace". She was such a dignified and well-meaning person that Historia later based her Christa persona off of her.
* MysteriousWaif: Next to nothing is known about this beautiful, delicate woman before the big reveal that Eren knew her through a memory. [[spoiler:Her own memories passed on from his father consuming her as a Titan Shifter, to be exact.]]
* MysticalWaif: She possesses the same Coordinate ability as Eren, but she can use it on ''normal'' humans.
* NiceGal: Was well loved by the people and it's easy to understand why. It also makes it easy to understand why she is dead.
* OnlyFriend: To a young Historia Reiss, being the only person who genuinely cared for her besides Rod, who was forced to keep up appearances.
* PosthumousCharacter: Frieda is revealed to have died the very night Wall Maria fell, along with the other legitimate children of the Reiss family in a fire that destroyed the chapel they were praying in. However, through a memory scan, Eren realizes that [[spoiler:his father Grisha actually murdered them as a Titan Shifter, ate Frieda for her Coordinate ability, and ended up getting eaten by Eren himself.]] Hange finds similar factual errors since [[spoiler:the chapel was built to withstand a fire, yet was demolished, hinting that it was the work of a Titan Shifter]].
* PrincessClassic: Everything "Krista" was, Frieda genuinely was in life. The eldest daughter of the Reiss family, she was secretly a princess and acted very much like one -- gentle, kind-hearted, and always encouraging Historia to grow up to be a lady that people would love.
* RavenHairIvorySkin: Dark-haired, and obviously a lovely young woman. Eren initially thinks that she resembles Historia.
* SilkHidingSteel: Implied, since when we witness a flashback to [[spoiler: Grisha's attack on the chapel,]] Frieda is seen possessively protecting her family from the possible threat. Turns out she was also [[spoiler: a Titan-shifter.]]
* SplitPersonalityTakeover: [[spoiler: The First King's ideology she inherited along with the Coordinate ability slipped through shortly after her BerserkButton was triggered by Historia. Frieda starts screaming at her that [[HumansAreBastards humans are all sinners]], and that we deserved this fate.]]
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth: Loved and admired by all, Frieda had everything it took to fill in as PosthumousCharacter.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: Pretty much an older, black-haired version of Krista. Eren also noted that she looked like Krista after having a short vision about her.[[spoiler: Her Titan form looks very similar to Kristia, including changing her black hair to blonde.]]

[[folder:Uri Reiss]]
!!Uri Reiss
Rod Reiss's younger brother, the previous ruler of humanity and the former wielder of the Coordinate power. A humble and compassionate man, he befriends Kenny Ackerman after thwarting his assassination attempt and defeating him. Expressing regret that he was unable to "build a paradise for humanity" before it is inevitably destroyed, Uri passes his powers to Frieda before he can die naturally.
* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: Kenny cites the main reason for his loyalty to be that he considers Uri to be strongest man within the Walls.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Towards Kenny, and a worse offender than Rod. Uri trusting Kenny leads to Kenny waiting for an opportunity to steal the Coordinate power from him, and later his niece.
* LovecraftianSuperpower: He was a Titan Shifter, and skilled enough to perform PartialTransformation.
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: Knowing he has a HealingFactor, Uri does not flinch in the slightest when a knife is stabbed through his arm.
* MeaningfulName: ''Uri'' is Hebrew for "light of God" and may be derived from ''Uriel'' an angel whose name means "flame of God". Given that he had the Coordinate, an ability Rod classifies as "being God", and his last name is derived from the German word for "Titan", this is a clear nod towards him being the bearer of the First King's power. He may have even been given such a name on purpose.
* ModestRoyalty: Does not look down on others despite his status. He even bows to Kenny, apologizing for everything he has suffered.
* OnlyFriend: To Kenny. Despite their initial meeting and vastly different backgrounds, the two come to respect and genuinely like each other.
* PartialTransformation: Uri was able to conjure a Titan upper torso and arm to grab and restrain a target.
* PostHumousCharacter: Uri died before Wall Maria fell, so everything we know about him are from the memories of others.
* RecruitingTheCriminal: To Rod's shock, it was Uri who advocated having Kenny work for them.
* VaguenessIsComing: He somehow knew Wall Maria would eventually fall years in advance, hinting it only to Kenny.

[[quoteright:112:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrackerman_4845.png]] [[quoteright:122:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrsackerman2_1648.png]]
Mikasa Ackerman's parents, a loving couple living in a small cottage on the outskirts of Shiganshina. They were murdered by human traffickers seeking to capture Mrs. Ackerman and her daughter.
* BadassFamily: It is revealed that the Ackerman family possess a special trait, [[spoiler:which seems to grant incredible strength and skill once awakened. For this reason, Mr. Ackerman went into hiding near the edge of human territory]].
* TheClan: Mrs. Ackerman hails from one, and passed her clan's emblem on to Mikasa, which is apparently carved on her right forearm. What the emblem looks like is unknown, but it is traditional for the parent to personally pass it down to their children.
* CynicismCatalyst: Mikasa ended up so damaged because of their murder.
* DeathByOriginStory: Revealed to have died years prior to the story via flashback.
* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: The fact that Mikasa is an adopted orphan is an important part of her character.
* GoodParents: From what little could be seen of them, Mr. and Mrs. Ackerman were kind parents, raising their daughter lovingly.
* HappilyMarried: They seemed to be a genuinely happy, loving family. [[TooHappyToLive What a shame.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: Mrs. Ackerman tries to stall the criminals so that her daughter can escape. It's a wasted effort, since Mikasa ends up too frightened to run.
* LastOfHisKind: Mrs. Ackerman was the last known pure-blooded Asian.
* MamaBear: Mrs. Ackerman fought so fiercely to protect her daughter that one of the thugs panicked and killed her.
* MightyWhiteyAndMellowYellow: Averted. Neither of them seemed to care in the least bit about her rare heritage, and were HappilyMarried. The kidnappers that killed them, however, intended to [[InvokedTrope take advantage]] of it by selling mother and daughter off to wealthy nobles with a RaceFetish.
* PosthumousCharacter: Murdered long before the events of the story.
* SuperpowerfulGenetics: Both parents are more than what they seem. [[spoiler:Members of the Ackerman family awaken superhuman strength and reflexes through trauma. In addition, both the Ackerman bloodline and people of non-European descent, like Mikasa's Japanese mother, possess the ability to resist the Coordinate ability, which led to them being ruthlessly persecuted by the royal family.]]
* TheTalk: Mr. Ackerman narrowly avoids having to explain the birds and the bees to Mikasa... only to wind up on the wrong end of a dagger.
* {{Unnamed Parent}}s: Not even given enough screen-time to have established names. The world certainly is cruel.

[[folder: Zeke]]
!!War Chieftain Zeke
A commander of the Titan Shifters' forces, and the true identity behind the Beast Titan. He initially appeared within the Walls and transformed the people of Ragako Village into Titans. He takes command over Reiner and Bertolt by force, promising to end their long battle.

* AnArmAndALeg: Both of his arms along with one of his legs are sliced off after being forced out of his Titan form by Levi. This was intentional on Levi's part in order to keep Zeke from generating a new Titan body.
* BigBad: Firmly takes over this role with his reappearance, setting up a massive ambush in Shiganshina.
* BigBrotherMentor: According to [[WordOfGod Isayama]], he's that for the Titan Trio.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: He is completely put off and baffled when the Survey Corps soldiers just keep charging at him even after he nearly decimated them with his previous attack, to the point where he subconsciously crushes the rocks he's holding.
* EvilCounterpart: Shaping up to be one to Levi. Zeke and Levi are both the leading force and most capable combatants among their groups, and both have stressed relations at best with the people they're leading. Levi and Zeke are both willing to use force to coerce their unwilling soldiers to act, and both are willing to put their enemies through some quite horrific bloodshed to get to their ends. Chapter 83 highlights this, with the final line "An adult's heartless decision will take away the life of a childhood friend", essentially applying equally to Levi and Zeke. One could almost say they are the same character seen from different points of view.
* EyeScream: Levi shoves a blade into his mouth while he's pinned to the ground and keeps pushing until it goes through Zeke's skull, and out of his eye socket.
* {{Fanservice}}: Probably the one single canon example of fanservice in this series to date. He gets shirtless (for seemingly no reason, as he was wearing one prior to shifting) and unlike every other example, he isn't chained up, bleeding, or missing any limbs. Or his face, for that matter.
* FauxAffablyEvil: He comes across as very bumbling and cheerful, rousing Bertolt and Reiner with a fatherly speech and even comically scalding his lips on coffee, but he's proven a cold and ruthless individual who just as casually suggests Reiner to be fed to another Titan.
* FourEyesZeroSoul: He wears glasses, and is a man that casually kills those that are no longer useful to him.
* GreyAndGrayMorality: Both his side and the Humanity's side have done some morally dubious things.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: His army of Titans forming a semi-circle around the battlefield provided the perfect anchor points for Levi's Maneuvering Gear on open terrain to get within attacking range and take him down while all of his attention was focused on the rest of the Survey Corps. While Zeke does survive by the skin of his teeth courtesy of the "Mule" Titan, he's forced to retreat much to his chagrin.
* IdenticalStranger: As Eren notes when confronting him Zeke has a close resemblance to his father. The fact that Zeke seems to have some, as of yet, unknown past with Grisha makes this resemblance all the stranger.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: At the end of chapter 83, when he's facing Levi and Eren, all of whom are rightfully pissed, and his army is gone, through his own actions, save the "mule" Titan he's riding, and unable to go into Titan Form himself, he decides to "call it a draw" and run away, with Reiner in the "mule" Titan's mouth.
* NamesToRunAwayFrom: '''Warchief''' Zeke cannot mean a good thing.
* RuggedScar: He has a rather prominent one on his left forearm. What makes it worth pointing out is that by being a Titan Shifter, he shouldn't have any physical scars due to his HealingFactor. It's significance, if any, is currently unknown.
* ShirtlessScene: He's shirtless when he emerges from his Titan body in Chapter 70, revealing that he's pretty ripped.
* TheChessmaster: His intelligence is ranked an 11/10, and he proves to be a brilliant tactician able to compete against the likes of Erwin and Armin.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: He ''really'' should have taken Bertolt and Reiner's warning about Levi seriously.
* VillainyFreeVillain[=/=]DesignatedVillain: Even though he's most of the time cold and cruel, [[spoiler: what he actually want is to put an end on the war, so there can be no more suffering.]]
* VillainHasAPoint: He nonetheless has a point about Grisha messing around with Eren's head, perhaps more than once.
* WalkingSpoiler: Since he's the Beast Titan's true identity, this is a given.
* WorfHadTheFlu: He gets sliced up pretty badly by an enraged Levi, but he was taken very much by surprise and had no idea how powerful humanity's strongest is.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: He seems quick to dispose of anyone no longer useful to him, informing Reiner that if he's not completely committed to their cause, he'll have to....[[EatenAlive give up his armor]] to another Warrior.
* YouMonster: To Levi because the latter not only survived their last encounter where Zeke ordered an entire army of Titans to rip him apart, but that he's ''still fit enough to keep on fighting and challenge him directly.''

A childhood friend of Reiner and Bertolt, who sacrificed his life to save Reiner from a Titan.
* ChekhovsGunman: His death set a major event in motion, and serves as the trigger to more than one major revelation years later. [[spoiler: Devouring him allowed Ymir to regain human form, and the conversation Bertolt and Ymir have about it leads Hange to realize Titans possess a CannibalismSuperpower]].
* EatenAlive: Probably the youngest character to be eaten on panel.
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: Implied, as the Titan devouring him is seen sinking shark-like teeth into his midsection.
* HeroicSacrifice: Pushed Reiner out of the way, dying in his place.
* InfantImmortality: A notable aversion. While children are implied to die regularly, so far he's the only child shown dying on panel and in a fairly graphic fashion.
* MeaningfulName: French for "Little Warrior".
* PlotTriggeringDeath: One of several in the series. [[spoiler: His death is what allowed Ymir to regain human form, setting a major player back on the proverbial board]].
* PosthumousCharacter: We don't even learn of his existence until five years after his death.
* SuddenNameChange: His name is given as "Berwick" in the original version of Chapter 47, but changed when it is published in Volume 12.
* TakingTheBullet: For Reiner.
* YouKilledMyFather: [[spoiler: Subverted; Bertolt confronts Ymir about having killed Marcel, but seems to forgive her since she doesn't remember doing it and had no control at the time.]]

[[folder:Marquis Bart]]
!!Marquis Bart
!!!Voiced By: Kousuke Takaguchi (JP), Barry Yandell (EN)
A cowardly and selfish nobleman, on good terms with Commander Pixis. He thinks only of himself and his fortune, and serves to illustrate the corrupt nature of the nobility.
* AdiposeRex: The nobles are clearly not as affected by the food shortage as the lower classes.
* AristocratsAreEvil: {{Downplayed}} example, since he's just a selfish, cowardly prick. There are a few, more minor characters who are high-ranking businessmen whose priorities are on themselves.
* CanonForeigner: An anime only character, Dot Pixis' whereabouts when Trost is attacked are not shown in detail in the manga.
* DirtyCoward: He begs Pixis to abandon the people of Trost, and instead defend his estate.
* FatBastard: This plump noble certainly wasn't designed to inspire respect for the upper class.
* TheHedonist: Shown to be eating pastries by the handful, and drinking fine wine while most people are going hungry. He doesn't particularly care about anyone but himself.
* IdleRich: He doesn't seem to do more than play chess with Pixis, eat food most would never see in their whole lives, and drink plenty of wine.
* ILetYouWin: [[ObfuscatingStupidity Pixis throws his chess games against him]] and he's quite perturbed to be informed that this is the case.
* ItsAllAboutMe: He tries to get Pixis to have his men guard his own estate instead of, you know, Wall Rose, which is protecting ''the rest of humanity'' from getting eaten.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Called "Lord Balto" in the Funimation subs, and "Lord Wald" in the dub itself.
* StrawCharacter: Really only exists to show how selfish and useless the ruling class are.

[[folder:Pastor Nick]]
!!Pastor Nick
!!!Voiced by: Tomohisa Aso (JP), Francis Henry (EN)
An influential member of the Church of the Wall, which views the Walls as holy and opposes any form of alteration to them. He is killed by corrupt members of the Military Police who were torturing him for information Hange and Levi suspects to be Eren and Historia's whereabouts. They deduce that he did not talk.
* AlasPoorVillain: Found tortured and murdered. Hange and Levi both suspect he took not only the Wall Cult's secrets, but the secrets of what the Survey Corps know to his grave. Hange is visibly shaken by his death.
* TheAlcoholic: Was one before joining the Church of the Wall.
* ChekhovsGunman: Appears at the very beginning just as a zealous preacher in the streets. He becomes more prominent later.
* ColdBloodedTorture: Hange notices [[{{Fingore}} evidence]] of him being tortured prior to his death, and suspects the Military Police Brigade were attempting to learn something from him. The severity of his torture leads them to suspect they were trying to get information from him concerning the Survey Corps.
* CorruptChurch: Eren notes that the Church of the Wall makes it difficult to get important reinforcements to the Walls. He's also aware of how the Wall is filled with Colossal Titans.
* CrisisOfFaith: Is deeply shaken by the reality of people suffering due to the Titan attacks. Probably didn't help his prayer were viscerally proven to be in vain as he was saying them. Not enough to make him reveal what he knows but enough to reveal that there is someone else with the authority to reveal the truth.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Appears briefly in the background during Episode 1 preaching in Shinganshina well before his canonical debut.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He's a callous {{Jerkass}} as a bureaucrat who refuses to divulge vital information to the Survey Corps, and vies for Eren's execution despite the fact that his Titan powers resulted in the first major victory for humankind in its entire history. Yet he's clearly shaken when he sees the suffering that the people who have to escape the Titans go through, and [[PetTheDog he even attempts to help a child who's been separated from his family]].
* ExactWords: His oaths absolutely forbid him to give up any of the Wall Cult's secrets but saying that someone else knows them and doesn't have any such vows technically isn't included in that.
* HiddenDepths: He's introduced as a callous, ignorant bureaucrat, but we later see that he does deeply care for people besides himself. He even dies protecting the secrets of both his religion and the Scouting Legion.
* HighAltitudeInterrogation: Hange does this to him on top of a Wall to get him to explain why there's a Titan inside the Walls. He'd rather die than break his oaths of secrecy... but she lets him go when he tells her about an another source of information that is more free to talk.
* InterrogatedForNothing: When Hange and Levi speculate how much he told his captors before he died, they note that all his fingernails were torn off. Levi suggests that he didn't give up anything or only did at end, since "talkative" people give in after one nail but "non-talkative" people won't say a word after all 10.
* JerkassHasAPoint: The Wallist position about zero interference with the Walls makes a lot more sense given they know what's inside them.
* KilledToUpholdTheMasquerade[=/=]HeKnowsTooMuch: Before he can reveal what he knows, he's found brutally murdered. Hange suspects the Military Police Brigade to have been involved.
* LoopholeAbuse: Refuses to tell the army any of the information he knows via his cult, but directs them to a source that can without breaking any vows of secrecy. [[ColdBloodedTorture Alas, that was already too much for the higher-ups to let it pass.]]
* NotAfraidToDie: He'd rather die than reveal his cult's secrets. He seems to have proven it, as he endured lengthy torture before being murdered.
* ObstructiveBureaucrat: As well as being a corrupt church preacher, Nick advocated for Eren's execution, stating that his ability to transform into a Titan is evil by nature. His church is also the reason that the Walls have barely been changed in over one hundred years since they claim that any modifications are a defilement. [[spoiler:The obstructionism against any change to the Walls turns out to have a much more valid reason, though, given that any modifications would risk revealing or even releasing the Titans contained in them.]]
* PetTheDog: Goes out of his way to help a refugee child, showing he's not completely indifferent to the people's plight.
* PreacherMan: He acts as pastor at a Wallist church in Stohess.
* SinisterMinister: In his first appearance, he advocates for Eren to be executed. It's later revealed that he knew about the Titans in the Wall, and has likely been withholding other secrets.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: His title has three different translations -- Pastor, Priest, and Reverend.
* TemptingFate: Is in the middle of preaching how the Walls will always protect them ''exactly'' when the Female Titan crashes through his church.

The servant and mistress of Rod Reiss, and biological mother of Historia.
* AbusiveParents: Alma ''hated'' her daughter, avoiding her at all costs and reacting violently when Historia attempted to hug her. She only spoke to her daughter twice, and both times expressed how much she wanted her child dead. On the flipside, Historia's father flippantly seems to want ''both'' of them dead, but can't stand watching his daughter die.
* AssholeVictim: Considering how Alma treated Historia her entire life, no tears were shed when Captain Ackerman plunged that dagger into her throat.
* DyingDeclarationOfHate: She makes perfectly clear her contempt for her daughter as she dies.
* FarmersDaughter: Her parents run a farm, which is where Historia ended growing up. Alma herself is very beautiful and would often get dolled up when she goes to the interior to see Rod.
* EasilyForgiven: Played with. Even after all these years, Historia doesn't seem to have as much ill will towards her mother than she actually should, describing her as being very beautiful when explaining her past.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: She fervently denies that Historia is her daughter when they are captured by members of [[StateSec the First Brigade,]] presumably in an attempt to save her own skin. After Lord Reiss ''[[BlatantLies confirms]]'' [[BlatantLies that she and Historia are indeed in no way related to him,]] Captain Ackerman almost immediately opens up her throat.
* TheMistress: Rod Reiss is mentioned to have legitimate children, which means he was married while carrying out their liaison.
* OffingTheOffspring: She ''wished'' she had killed her daughter, while Lord Reiss ultimately spares Historia and forces her to adopt a new identity and go into hiding.
* PlotTriggeringDeath: Her death forced Historia into hiding under a fake identity, resulting in her eventual enlistment in the Survey Corps and role as the second LivingMacGuffin of the series.
* SlashedThroat: She is killed this way.
* ThatThingIsNotMyChild: Alma hysterically denies her daughter, while trying to save her own life. Considering how much she hated Historia to begin with, it's likely she always felt that way.
* UnequalPairing: Alma, a lowly servant, and Rod Reiss, the true ruler of humanity.

!!Edward "Dimo" Reeves
!!!Voiced By:
President of the Reeves Company, a merchant organization with many customers in Trost. First appeared blocking the exit of Trost with a massive supply of expensive items during the Titan attack, before Mikasa forced him to get out of the way. He became an ally of the Survey Corps and Garrison in their planned revolution.
* BaldOfEvil: He's a selfish man, willing to risk the lives of others for his merchandise.
* TheBusCameBack: He reappears in Chapter 54, after being absent since the invasion of Trost.
** BackForTheDead: Murdered by Captain [[spoiler: Ackerman]], not long after allying with the Survey Corps.
* ChekhovsGunman: Seemingly just a minor one-shot StrawCivilian, until he shows back up some time later. He becomes a vital ally to the Survey Corps and helps them capture Djel Sanes.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Played straight, but later subverted by his change of heart. After Trost, he grew from a selfish and greedy businessman to the primary force keeping the Trost District alive.
* DueToTheDead: Erwin praises his determination to help rebuild the devastated Trost District, and swears to avenge his murder.
* AFatherToHisMen: He appears to truly care about the well-being of his employees and the people of Trost who rely on his company.
* GracefulLoser: After Levi's Squad soundly foils his kidnapping attempt, he does not put up further resistance, even laughing at himself for being beat up by teenage Mikasa.
* {{Greed}}: He first appears as a corrupt merchant who cares more about his shipments than the lives of people. He grows out of this.
* {{Jerkass}}: He was obstructing the evacuation of hundreds of civilians and angrily shouts down any attempt at rationality before Mikasa threatened to kill him. Despite wailing children nearby.
** JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Levi notes this - if he were truly callous, he would have cut all ties with the Trost district, which is a ghost town save for people unable to move out due to being ground zero for the breach, and operate somewhere that would actually profit him. But he continues providing jobs and worries what will happen to the city dwellers if the Military Police takes over his company.
* LaResistance: His company has allied with the Survey Corps and Garrison against the Military Police and aristocracy.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: His actual name is Edward, but everyone knows him as "Dimo". It isn't clear if it's a nickname, alias, or a title.
* SlashedThroat: Dispatched while his back is turned, in a fairly gruesome manner.
* SmarterThanYouLook: Seems to have this opinion of Levi.
* StrawCivilian: Causes the evacuation of Trost to come to a stand-still, by trying to force his cart piled high with wares through a narrow passage. He criticizes the military openly, when Mikasa points out soldiers are ''dying'' to hold back the Titans until the evacuation is complete.
* TookALevelInKindness: Erwin notes that Reeves was so shaken by the devastation of the Trost District, that he had a change of heart and began to use his influence and resources to keep the ruined District alive. His efforts allowed the people of Trost to survive, after being abandoned by the government and military.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: He underestimates Mikasa's fighting prowess and caves when she threatens to "remove" him. In his second appearance, he jokes that his men have no chance against the Survey Corps, and Mikasa alone could defeat all of them.
* VillainRespect: In his first appearance in the manga he actually smirks after Mikasa threatens to kill him if he doesn't move his cart, indicating that he is impressed by her.

!!Flegel Reeves
The son of Dimo Reeves and heir to the Reeves Company. He's a spunky young man, and Dimo is doing his best to mold him into a proper successor.
* BringNewsBack: Flegel manages to make it back to Trost to inform Hange of the truth behind Dimo's murder.
* BullyingADragon: Snarks at '''Levi''' regarding the latter's height and assumes he's a servant when they first meet.
* BystanderSyndrome: After seeing what became of Dimo for siding with the Survey Corps, Flegel believes the best course of action is to go into hiding and give up on the rebellion and justice.
* DeclarationOfProtection: To the people of Trost.
* TheDragAlong: Hange repeatedly tries to convince Flegel to cooperate with the Survey Corps, but eventually decides to just drag him along.
* EngineeredPublicConfession: He lures the Military Police tasked with his assassination into a seemingly deserted neighborhood, before tricking them into revealing their role in the deaths of his father and his men, in full view of a large number of hidden citizens.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Presumptuously talking down to the WorldsStrongestMan... [[EveryoneHasStandards and then later voicing his disgust at Levi's cruel treatment of Historia]].
* HiddenDepths: He seems like little more than a bratty, goofy youth. But when push comes to shove, he turns out to truly be his father's son -- revealing a strong conviction and courage to help others beneath his initial cowardice.
* HopeIsScary: Hange tries to convince him to help the Survey Corps, but Flegel is terrified that he will end up like his father. He eventually changes his mind and supports the rebellion.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's quite presumptuous and needs to be kept in line by his father, but he has a good heart.
* JustBetweenYouAndMe: Goads the Military Police into doing this for him in order to exact a confession from them.
* RousingSpeech: To the people of Trost, declaring his intention to double-down on his father's protection of Trost.
* SoleSurvivor: His timely bladder saved him from otherwise certain death along with his father.
* TookALevelInBadass: Though initially unwilling to stand up to the Military Police Brigade, he comes into his own as the new head of the Reeves company and declares his intention to follow in his father's footsteps by protecting the people of Trost from the government.
* YouthfulFreckles: Fitting his naïve personality.

[[folder:Roy and Beaure]]
!!Roy and Beaure

A pair of reporters that work for the Berg newspaper company, located in Stohess District. While responding to the street-battle between the Special Operations Squad and the Anti-Human Suppression Squad, they find themselves becoming entangled in the growing revolution.
* BystanderSyndrome: Roy has long since embraced this attitude, understanding all too well the risk of doing more.
* CantStopTheSignal: The monarchy is furious to hear about non-censored press being distributed to the public, since the central government's vast corruption/conspiracy has irreversibly become public knowledge.
* GoingForTheBigScoop: Beaure ''wants'' to do this, but the older and more experienced Roy knows how the world works well enough to hold him back.
* GovernmentConspiracy: Roy discusses it with his younger associate, pointing out how the government uses the newspapers for propaganda and has spies planted in every single company to control what information gets released.
* HopeIsScary: Roy firmly believes that even if they ''did'' report the truth, the government would simply prevent it from reaching the people and silence them.
* IWillPunishYourFriendForYourFailure: Roy admits this is the reason he gave up on reporting the truth, since he knows the government will hurt his family and friends should he report anything but the official story.
* IntrepidReporter: Beaure is young and inexperienced, and shows eagerness to expose the Central Brigade's actions. In contrast, Roy has been around long enough that he realizes the futility of doing so and advises against it.
* PropagandaMachine: Beaure is disheartened to learn that the newspapers are merely this, while Roy has long since accepted that this is the way things have to be.
* VoiceOfTheResistance: Hange challenges them to be this, bringing them along to witness an EngineeredPublicConfession and encouraging them to print the truth for once. Their decision to do so clears the Survey Corps of all wrong-doing and exposes the misdeeds of the government to the people.

[[folder:King Fritz]]
!!King Fritz
The current monarch of the Fritz dynasty, an ancient royal family left over from the previous era. He is the ruler of humanity, and noted for his continued support of the Survey Corps even when popular opinion turned against them. However, he is merely a symbolic figure with little actual authority and a servant of House Reiss, the true rulers within the Walls.
* TheAlcoholic: Implied, as our first glimpse of him has a strong focus on the whiskey bottle beside him.
* BeardOfSorrow: Our only glimpses of him is of a haggard, melancholy looking man with a beard.
* FakeKing: The Reiss family is the true royal family. This guy is just a figurehead.
* NoNameGiven: He is identified only as a member of the Fritz family.
* PerpetualFrowner: From what we see of him, it looks like he's gotten used to frowning.
* PuppetKing: He is merely a figurehead, while House Reiss rules from the shadows.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Viewed as such by the Survey Corps, due to his continued support of them against strong opposition from the nobility and even the general public. The Wall Cult is noted to have acted to [[ObstructiveZealot obstruct]] access to the King, working against the military in their efforts to bolster defense and make headway in learning about the Titans. After the disastrous 57th Expedition, it is noted that even the King could not protect them from the wrath of the nobility and common citizens. Even so, when the Titan Shifters reveal themselves and kidnap Eren, he responds by ordering the Garrison and Military Police Brigade to assist in his rescue -- forcing his personal guard out of the Interior and onto the front lines. However, the trope is Subverted when it is revealed he is merely a PuppetKing for the true powers ruling over humanity, with his apparently reasonable acts part of a much larger conspiracy.
* UpperClassTwit: While a ''very serious'' and heated discussion is going on concerning the fate of the Survey Corps and humanity itself, he's.....napping. His handlers have to yell at him to wake up, and his immediate response is to wonder if its lunchtime yet.
