Main Characters

    Kakeru Aizawa 
Voiced By: Yuko Sanpei

The protagonist and younger brother of star soccer player Aizawa Suguru. He used to play for the school team two years prior to the main story, but has taken up the manager position. After losing his brother, he rejoins the world of soccer.


  • Big Brother Worship: He greatly respects his brother and considers him to be an amazing soccer player.
  • Broken Tears: When he learns about Suguru's death, he breaks down crying.
  • Childhood Friends: He and his brother knew Nana since they were in elementary school.
  • Curtains Match the Window: He has dark brown hair and dark brown eyes.
  • Innocently Insensitive: When he reunites with Hibino, his childhood friend whose leg he injured years ago, he thinks that he's recovered from his injury. This leads to Hibino angrily admitting that his ligament is still torn and declaring that he won't let Kakeru score a goal when their match comes.
  • Luminescent Blush: His face turns red whenever he's around Nana, his friend and crush.
  • My Greatest Failure: Kakeru is haunted by the memory of injuring one of his teammates with one of his left kicks. He becomes quite scared whenever he uses his left foot.
  • Official Couple: In the end of the manga, he and Nana get together.
  • Stepford Smiler: Type A. He presents himself as a cheerful and happy kid. Underneath the surface, he doesn't consider himself a good player like his brother and is afraid to use his leg due to a past incident where he injured one of his teammates with a left kick.
  • Tareme Eyes: In contrast to Suguru's Tsurime Eyes, Kakeru has large, expressive eyes, which emphasizes his kind and soft demeanor. After the heart transplant, his eyes become narrower and sharper like his brother's.

    Nana Mishima 
Voiced By: Shizuka Itō

Childhood friend of Suguru and Kakeru Aizawa. When she was in sixth grade, she moved to California. She returned to Japan two years later and she becomes the new team manager.


  • Dude Magnet: During her first day at school, she attracts a lot of her male classmates' attention.
  • Hidden Depths: Like Kakeru, even though she takes up the team manager position, she's quite skilled in soccer. This comes into play later when she's recruited to play for Ishiki's team in the women's soccer league.
  • In-Series Nickname: "Seven" used by Kakeru and Suguru and "Little Witch" by fellow soccer players.
  • Living Legend: When she was in America, she was known as "Little Witch" due to her amazing soccer skills. This comes into play when she competes in the women's soccer league.
  • Ms. Fanservice: There are times where the series focuses on her curves and bust.
  • Pervert Revenge Mode: Anytime a guy pervs on her, she doesn't hesitate to attack him.
  • Seven Is Nana: Her nickname is "Seven", which is also her jersey number.
  • The Smurfette Principle: She's the only girl on the main soccer team.
  • Tomboy: When she was younger, she had her hair cut short and she was the only girl on Suguru and Kakeru's team. When she enters high school, she lets her hair grow out.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: When Araki gains a lot of weight, she goes to extreme measures to help him lose it. Her tactics include giving him tiny portions of food, putting tape on coin slots for vending machines, and putting laxatives in apple juice.

    Suguru Aizawa 
Voiced By: Jun Fukuyama

Kakeru's older brother and captain of the Kamakura soccer team. He's considered the best player in Japan in contrast to his brother. When he and Kakeru were on their way to school, they get hit by a truck with Suguru being declared braindead and Kakeru going into surgery.


  • The Ace: He's considered the best player in the school and has attracted a hoard of fans.
  • Aloof Big Brother: He's emotionally distant and doesn't seem interested in his younger brother.
  • Anger Born of Worry: The main reason why he's upset with Kakeru is because he knows his brother is a talented soccer player, but he chooses to be the manager instead of utilizing his skills as a player.
  • Big Brother Instinct: It's not obvious at first, but Suguru cares a lot about Kakeru. When they get involved in the accident, Suguru's first response was to leap towards Kakeru to shield him from the truck. The results were Suguru being declared braindead and Kakeru going into surgery for a heart transplant.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Whenever Kakeru has a flashback of his brother, he remembers Suguru giving him advice on improving his soccer performance.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: During the accident, Suguru used his body to protect Kakeru from the truck, thus taking the most damage.
  • The Stoic: He usually wears a stern expression for most of his screen time.
  • Tsurime Eyes: In contrast to Kakeru's Tareme Eyes, Suguru has sharp, narrow eyes to emphasize his serious nature and strong will.
  • Walking Spoiler: His death is a major plot point for the main story.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: He dies pretty early in the series.
  • When He Smiles: When he spends time with his brother off the field, he starts smiling.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: It's implied that he knew on the day of the accident that he was going to die.

Enoshima Soccer Team

    Ryuuichi Araki 
Voiced By: Akira Ishida

A second-year student of Enoshima High and midfielder of the FC. He used to be a part of the FC, but after a brutal defeat from the SC, he left the club.


  • Acrofatic: Whenever he's fat, he's still able to kick the ball with ease.
  • Big Eater: He tends to eat large portions, which is why he gains weight easily.
  • Changed My Mind, Kid: After talking to Kakeru about the phantom pass, Araki works his hardest to lose weight and touch up his soccer skills so that he can rejoin the FC for their match against the SC.
  • Determinator: When he starts getting weary during the Shonan High match, he sticks it out until the end.
  • Fat Comic Relief: Most of the comedy centres around his gut and how out of shape he is at times.
  • Formerly Fit/Fat: A rare one to sports anime. His introduction episode has him looking almost obese, then he manages to lose all that weight in 10 days. By episode 8, however, he lets himself go again and it becomes a recurring gag throughout the series.
  • Friendly Rival: Even though he and Suguru were on different teams, they made time to hang out and chat.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: His hair is about chin-length and he's quite handsome.
  • Temporary Bulk Change: His weight tends to fluctuate depending on the plot. He slims down for important matches and gains it in between them.

    Kota Nakatsuka 
Voiced By: Minoru Shiraishi

A second-year player and friend of Kakeru's. He regularly tries hitting on girls, which often backfires on him. Because he failed his exams for Kamakura High, he transfers to Enoshima High, the same school that Kakeru and Nana transferred to.


  • All Men Are Perverts: He's the central pervert of the series. He once wanted to grope Nana's breasts, talked about how good her body looks and spied on her when she was in the women's bath.
  • Anime Hair: His hair is very spiky.
  • Casanova Wannabe: He constantly tries picking up girls with very little success.
  • The Power of Friendship: He leaves the SC so that he can be a part of Kakeru's team.
  • Running Gag: Anytime he flirts with Nana or makes a perverted comment, he gets hit.

    Mako Hyodo 
Voiced By: Atsushi Kakehashi

A second-year of Enoshima and midfielder. He starts off as the captain of the FC, but after the two teams merge, he becomes the vice-captain.


    Coach Teppei Iwaki 
Voiced By: Shin-ichiro Miki

Kakeru and Nana's homeroom teacher and coach of the FC Club. He becomes the official coach of the Enoshima Soccer Club after the FC and SC's draw.


  • Curtains Match the Window: Black hair and black eyes.
  • Tough Love: In order to get the boys to work as a team, he makes them practice against a strong team. He also uses this match to make Araki realize why it's important for him to lose weight.
  • Tsurime Eyes: He has sharp and narrow eyes. This an early indication that he has a serious side underneath his friendly visage.

Kamakura Soccer Team

    Yuusuke Saeki 
Voiced By: Tarusuke Shingaki

A second-year player of Kamakura High and childhood friend of Suguru and Kakeru's. He starts the series as a defending midfielder, but after Suguru's death, he becomes team captain.


  • Undying Loyalty: He's known for his loyalty towards his friends, especially after two of his friends enroll in a different school.
