Our main character. An intelligent and contemplative young man, Ken's defining trait beyond ordinary high school student is his lack of interest in control or change - he prefers to coast through life taking what comes, as long as he does not have to encounter pain. For the first fifteen years of his life, this was entirely possible for him, but naturally this couldn’t persist – and instead of confronting problems, he avoids them at all costs. By the time he gets to Araugakuen, he's nothing if not malleable – he’s prone to being pulled any which way as long as a treat is held under his nose, and he’s very impressionable. He’ll have to use the year ahead to mold himself into what he’s going to be for the rest of his life – a trip of self-discovery he’s never bothered to undertake before.

Fun Fact: He speaks English with an Irish accent, because of the English Laila taught him in childhood.

Ken’s guide during his first day at Araugakuen, and eventually his closest friend at the school. Arisu’s cheerful attitude, eagerness to help Ken, and general disdain for his consistent forays into danger all stem from the fact that he is the first real shot at a friend that Arisu’s had in years, and she doesn’t want to screw it up. She’s really aching to be able to trust someone and to have someone trust her in return – but so far, she only has the courage to do that with a clean slate. Still, she’s a kind, sensible, loyal friend – she just needs the experience to be able to show that to someone else. And she does care for Ken. Their mode of friendship is just not very usual.

Fun Fact: Arisu is half-American, and her birth name is "Alice." She has been insisting on the "Arisu" pronunciation since she was eleven.

Naruto is fat. Very fat. He has the same name as a famous anime character. He’s also very fat. He’s the fattest kid in Class 2-A (and the third fattest in the whole school), so he’s something of a museum piece to everyone else – often looked at, but never touched. And he hates it. He hates it so very much. You’d never know that he knows almost everything there is to know about Douglas Adams, that he cried after Sho Tucker transmuted his daughter and his dog in Fullmetal Alchemist, that he loves to tell jokes, that he can’t stop thinking about girls and what it would be like to be near one, or even that he spends extra hours every day exercising and always pushes himself beyond his limit so that one day he can wake up and not be fat anymore. He wants to be everything – anything but fat. Sure, he’s got a long road ahead, but he’s charging down that road as fast as he can. He just isn’t going very fast. Because he’s fat.

Fun Fact: Naruto is one of the very few Japanese homeschool students; Araugakuen is the first school he's ever attended.

Category: Other Male. Stats: 5'5", 124 lb.

Kaworu Hasegawa is a firm believer in instant gratification. If a situation does not bring him pleasure immediately, or does not bring him pleasure at all, he considers it a waste of his time - up to and including close relationships. Until he discovered Araugakuen, Kaworu had it in his head to skip high school. But Araugakuen was full of boys and girls; mumbling, insecure, impressionable, fat boys and girls. And Kaworu loves fat boys and girls. Their curves, their habits, the look of fear and pleasure in their eyes – he just can’t get enough. So, that’s what Kaworu’s been doing at Araugakuen for a year now – he’s been bribing the administration, getting his fill off giving others their fill, and ruining their chances at recovery in the process. Now that a new year’s begun, very few of the new students know him – and he’s got his eyes set on a young boy with insecurities galore.

Fun Fact: He likes kittens.

Seiichi knows, or rather has come to expect, that being a boor in the right way will earn you respect, and what Seiichi wants above all else is to be lazy, rude, and entertained – and not receive any punishment for it. For a dimwitted soul such as himself, he has accomplished this remarkably well. He has no qualms against insult for his own entertainment, jeers at every girl he sees (while not bragging that the hottest and the smartest girl in the school is his girlfriend), and basically acts like the laziest of tyrants. And no one, absolutely no one, has called him out on this to his face, because – and he knows this very well – at some point every student at Araugakuen has called on the Chess Club, and at some point every student owes something to Ariyoshi Seiichi.

Fun Fact: Seiichi is the only person in Class 2-A to begin the year in a faithful and steady relationship. Note that this does not include his girlfriend.
