[[folder:Night Raid]]

[[quoteright:130:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/night_owl_3050.jpg]]

! Tropes associated with Night Raid:

* AntiHero: Of the PragmaticHero and PayEvilUntoEvil kind. They want to take down the empire and rebuild society. However, they are willing to murder people and use ruthless tactics to achieve their goals (even resorting to killing ''[[SinsOfOurFathers entire families]]'' who are willing to exploit others [[spoiler:such as Aria's family]]). Even Tatsumi, [[NiceGuy one of the nicest members in the team]], had to resort to to lethal force in numerous occasions. The Night Raid members even [[LampshadeHanging state that they are murderers, not heroes]].
** Then again, their targets are all utter monsters who deserve to die and they try their best to avoid killing innocents in the crossfire, so their claims seem to be little more than SelfDeprecation, and they ultimately are [[SubvertedTrope genuine heroes]].
* BadassCrew: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] that it's a requirement to be a {{Badass}} in order to join the Night Raid since majority of their members are defected soldiers and generals of the Empire.
* TheBigGuy: Leone, Bulat and Susanoo to different degrees. Leone and Bulat are both BoisterousBruiser while Susanoo is more of a GeniusBruiser.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: They're the most CloudCuckooLander people you'll ever meet. They're also the most dangerous group of skilled assassins and one of most dangerous forces opposing the Empire.
* ColorCodedCharacters: All of them have unique colors for their hair and outfits.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Every member of the Night Raid comes from a painful past that caused them to take up arms against the Empire due to the Prime Minister's machinations.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: Every member of Night Raid is equipped with a Teigu that they found or retrieved from the Empire.
* ExperiencedProtagonist: At the start of the series, Night Raid was already FamedInStory as a group of extremely dangerous and efficient assassins throughout the Empire.
* GoodIsNotSoft: They don't have an option to be given who their [[TheEmpire enemy]] is.
* LaResistance: They're assassins of the revolutionary army tasked to kill certain people in the Empire to weaken the Prime Minister and collect Teigu from fallen soldiers to strengthen their forces.
* TheLeader: Najenda is the leader of Night Raid, who hands out missions and such-like.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: The Night Raid explain to Tatsumi that even if they're doing it for the greater good, nothing changes the fact that at the end of the day they are murderers and they will have to continue to be so until the Empire is reformed.
* PragmaticHero: Every member of the Night Raid are genuinely good people at heart but know that in order to change the corrupt state of the empire that they will need to be merciless against anyone that stands in their way.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: Even with the quite eccentric personalities of each member they all still manage to efficiently work together as an assassination group.
* TrueCompanions: Every member has absolute trust and confidence in each others' abilities and lives if need be. If something happens to one of their members they're instantly devastated and seeks vengeance for them so long as it doesn't put the rest of the group and their mission at risk.

!! Tatsumi
[[quoteright:195:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akame-ga-kill-2nd-pv-seventhstyle-002_4693.jpg]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Sōma Saitō

The main protagonist of the story who embarked on a quest towards the capital in hopes of joining the military and earning enough money to send back to his impoverished village. After narrowly escaping an evil ploy by sadistic nobles Tatsumi soon learns about the true corruption within the Empire and is recruited into the ranks of Night Raid whose task is to rid the Empire of this corruption by slaying the wicked. Further on whilst competing in a fighting tournament sponsored by the Empire he unknowingly manages to steal Esdeath's heart who unceremoniously decides to make Tatsumi her lover, much to his discomfort.

Tatsumi is widely regarded by many, both allies and enemies, to have an immense amount of hidden potential despite his young age. Lacking the skill and experience of his fellow allies in Night Raid, he makes up for the fact by becoming increasingly more powerful with every battle, with his rapid growth rate being noted by stronger members such as Akame and Bulat.
----

* AccidentalPervert: The day he needs to go on a mission with Mine, he enters her room without knocking to wake her up and ends up walking in on her changing. She then starts shooting him.
* {{Adorkable}}: Quite popular with the ladies and also prone to getting laughed at for his silly mannerisms by the other members of Night Raid.
* {{Badass}}: It's a given when you can survive battles against the best assassins and soldiers the empire has to offer.
* BadassAdorable: It's a trait that he's very well known for. Just ask [[VillainousCrush Esdeath]].
* BadassInANiceSuit: During his battle against the Three Beasts.
* BadassInDistress: Played with. When Esdeath abducts him, she has no intention of hurting him and isn't aware of the fact that he's a member of Night Raid and is put into a worse distress when [[spoiler:Syura traps him inside the palace in front of Budo and Esdeath who [[OhCrap finally learns that he is a Night Raider]].]]
* BadassNormal: Even before obtaining a Teigu he was strong enough to stand up to Teigu users.
* BattleCry: "INCURSIOOOO!!!"
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Mine.
* BreakTheCutie: In the first chapter he loses [[spoiler:both of his childhood friends]] and it just goes down hill from there.
* BequeathedPower: Incursio [[spoiler: given to him by [[BigBrotherMentor Bulat]] moments before he dies.]]
* ButtMonkey: He really can't get a break. He's not as much as [[ChivalrousPervert Lubbock]] but he's definitely one when he first joined the Night Raid and he's later had the bad luck of being chosen as [[VillainousCrush Esdeath's lover]].
* CantCatchUp: He quickly proves his worth as a fighter, but initially proves to be outclassed by some of the stronger opponents due to his tactics, while other Night Raiders handle them with ease. [[spoiler: Incursio's evolved form fixed this issue pretty swiftly.]]
* ChickMagnet: Every girl that Tatsumi comes across he unknowingly manages to win her affection, it's eventually [[LampshadedTrope lampshaded]] by Lubbock and Najenda [[ObliviousToLove much to his confusion]].
* CombatPragmatist: He ends up fighting one of the Rakshasa demons, who he knows is stronger and more skilled than him. How does he beat his opponent? He destroys the building that both of them are in, bringing it down on top of the Rakshasa demon's head.
* CountryMouse: He comes from an impoverished village in the countryside that he wishes to save by earning money in the capital.
* CuteBruiser: He's a young boy, but his fighting style involves getting close to the enemy and delivering many swift and powerful attacks.
* DeadlyUpgrade: [[spoiler: Forcing Incursio to evolve]] sounds awesome on paper(See TookALevelInBadass below), unfortunately because Tatsumi is still inexperienced in using it, this just means [[spoiler: Tyrant]] will slowly take him over and destroy his body.
* DealWithTheDevil: He begs Tyrant, who is still alive, for the power to protect Mine and crush the Empire after feeling he was too weak [[spoiler: following Lubbac's death.]] Incursio then evolves and he becomes a hell of a lot more powerful as a result [[spoiler: being able to fight both Budou and ''Esedeath'' on equal footing.]] However, he starts feeling the effects on his body as the fight draws on.
* DeadPersonImpersonation: Due to the fact that all witnesses at the scene were put unconscious by Nyau's Scream and the Three Beasts were all slain by the efforts of Tatsumi and Bulat, the Empire had no information of the recently deceased [[spoiler:Bulat. Since Bulat was known as the sole owner of [[PoweredArmor Incursio]], Tatsumi's [[TakeUpMySword inheritance]] of the Teigu has the Empire mistakenly believe that Bulat is still at large.]]
* DiedInYourArmsTonight: In the anime, [[spoiler:he dies in Akame's arms]].
* DistressedDude: Tatsumi finds himself captured and imprisoned by Esdeath once she decides to "make him hers". He manages to escape. Later, [[spoiler:he gets captured by Syura along Lubbock. Despite being revealed as a member of Night Raid, Esdeath tries to convince him to join her one last time. Tatsumi refuses and Esdeath decides to execute him herself. [[BigDamnHeroes Mine then shows up at the last minute]] [[ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend to save her boyfriend]].]]
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: Starts out BadassNormal but [[TakeUpMySword inherits Bulat's Teigu after Bulat's death]].
* EnemyMine: Played with. After witnessing his abilities in a local fighting tournament, Esdeath drags him to the palace in the hopes of inducting him into Jaegers--and to become her lover, unknown to the fact that Tatsumi is part of Night Raid.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: When [[spoiler:Incursio gets a powered up form]], his eyes have [[spoiler: Tyrant's]] cross-shaped pupils. Even after he stops wearing the armor, his right eye remains that of [[spoiler: Tyrant's.]]
* FusionDance: Forcing [[spoiler: Incursio to evolve]] made him fuse with it according to Budou. It may explain why [[spoiler: he gains Tyrant's exotic eyes, even after he's not in the armor.]]
* GoodEyesEvilEyes: Actively switches between soft TaremeEyes when he's lounging with friends, to razor sharp TsurimeEyes when he's ready to fight and kill.
* TheHeroDies: [[spoiler:Protecting the common people, as he always had. In the anime, at least.]]
* HeroicRROD: Pushing Incursio beyond his limits puts an enormous strain on Tatsumi's body. The armor slowly consumes him the more he pushes himself.
* IdiotHair: He has a rather large forelock of hair on top of his head. Which has a tendency to be rather [[ExpressiveHair expressive]] during times of emotion. Such as when Esdeath walks into her bedroom half naked, [[SomethingElseAlsoRises it stands straight up.]]
* FirstKiss: Tatsumi's was taken by [[VillainousCrush Esdeath]]. [[ClingyJealousGirl Understandably, Mine is upset at this.]]
* LoveYouAndEverybody: [[spoiler:When Mine finally confesses she likes him, Tatsumi cheerfully says he likes her too, as a comrade. Mine has to kiss him in the lips to make him get the point.]]
* MementoMacguffin: The parting gift given to him by the village chief is [[spoiler:the item that blocks Akame's [[OneHitKill Murasame]] from killing him.]]
* NaiveNewcomer: Incredibly naive when he first arrives in the empire, even getting scammed by Leone out of all his cash and almost killed because of his lack of common sense. Fortunately he gets better.
* NiceGuy: Kind even to his enemies, [[TooDumbToLive which almost got him killed a number of times]].
* NoBodyLeftBehind: [[spoiler: In the anime, his body disappears into nothing after Esdeath freezes both of them together.]]
* ObliviousToLove: He utterly fails to notice Mine's feelings for him [[spoiler:and has a really hard time figuring out what she means when she confesses she likes him.]]
* OfficialCouple: With [[spoiler:Mine]].
* TheOneGuy: [[spoiler:He's the only guy in Night Raid after Lubbock's death.]]
* OnlySaneMan: Occasionally acts as this in the Night Raid.
* PreMortemOneLiner: "You can beg the King of Hell for forgiveness."
* SkilledButNaive: Being someone from the country, he hasn't had quite as much fighting experience as the rest of the Night Raid, causing to attack rather recklessly in some of his battles.
* SlaveCollar: After Esdeath decides to make Tatsumi hers, she collared him in the arena and tried to drag Tatsumi off. When that failed, she just knocked him out.
* SoleSurvivor: Ieyasu and Sayo do not survive the trip to the capital, leaving Tatsumi the only survivor amongst his friends.
* SorryThatImDying: In the anime, [[spoiler:right before he dies, he apologizes to Akame for not being able to keep his promise to survive.]]
* StarCrossedLovers: [[spoiler:If the Great Lord's prophetic powers are to be believed, Tatsumi's romance with Mine won't end well.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: Chapter 54, [[spoiler: he ''forces'' Incursio to evolve even further.]] It not only makes him strong enough to keep up with the Empire's strongest warriors, but he's also capable of {{NoSell}}ing Esedeath's TimeStandsStill ability, albeit briefly.
* UnskilledButStrong: He lacks some of the more refined skills of the Night Raiders, but makes up for it for his overall fighting ability and speed.
* WeakButSkilled: He lacks the raw strength of a Teigu user at first, but his training does put him on even footing with some of them, and it makes him a ''monster'' against normal people.
* WhenHeSmiles: His smile is what catches Esdeath's affections.

!!! Teigu: Incursio

* AdaptiveArmor: Due to Tyrant's aptitude for adaptation and evolution the armor also inherits its AdaptiveAbility. As such, if Tatsumi needs to be faster, the armor will strengthen his legs, or if Tatsumi needs to be tougher it'll make itself harder.
* BadassCape: One of these comes with it.
* BladeOnAStick: Incursio's auxiliary armanent, ''Neuntote'', a halberd capable of cutting through several Danger Beasts in one swing.
* CoolMask: A helmet with a mask comes with it.
* EleventhHourSuperpower: In the anime's climax, he awakens Incursio's ultimate potential, growing vastly stronger and gaining {{Flight}} thanks to the Tyrant beast's adaptive ability.
* InstantArmor: The user can summon this armor at will.
* InvisibilityCloak: He can become invisible for a limited amount of time.
* NighInvulnerability: Incursio's known for its nearly indestructible defense.
* PowerArmor: The armor was created from the flesh of Tyrant, whose life force was so great that the beast is still alive within the armor.
* RedBaron: Demon [[InstantAwesomeJustAddDragons Dragon]] Armor: Incursio.

!! Akame
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0b733b19358448a9a9b56313e38e1c2a1398147295_full_1282.jpg]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/SoraAmamiya

The [[TitleDrop titular]] "[[RedBaron Red Eyed Killer]]'', Akame is a young girl that was infamously known for being the Empire's number one assassin. Akame's cold-hearted and serious demeanor stems from her hellish training the Empire forced her and her sister through after being sold by their parents. After being tasked one mission to assassinate former general Najenda she is convinced by her to not only spare her but also to instead join her crusade against the Empire by becoming a member of Night Raid. Her defection from the Empire sparks an intense rivalry between fellow assassin and sibling Kurome, along with a mutual desire to be the one to end the other.

Akame is often considered to be one of the stronger members of Night Raid, slaying even the strongest of enemies with minimal effort. Her hellish assassination training allows her combat ability to be on par with those as powerful as General within the military levels of the Empire. Her Teigu, One Cut Killer: Murasame, is a katana known for being coated in an immensely deadly poison that can kill those cut by it within seconds.
----

* ActionGirl: The poster girl for this within Night Raid and the entire series.
* {{Adorkable}}: Her social awkwardness and BigEater antics are really endearing.
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: She has really long black hair, is very pretty and displays a stoic and aloof attitude most of the time.
* {{Badass}}: One of the stronger members of the Night Raid and the former top assassin of The Empire.
* BadassAdorable: An absolutely ruthless and efficient killer... who has a tendency to be adorable in her free time.
* BadassBoast: She states that she will kill [[WorldsStrongestMan General Esdeath]] when the time comes. [[spoiler:In the anime, she does it in episode 24.]]
-->Esdeath is certainly powerful... But she has a weakness. She's alive... She has a beating heart. If so... I will kill her. Even if she is the fabled strongest in the empire!
* BadassLongcoat: An occasional part of her attire.
* BigEater: She can eat beasts several times her size in one meal. Tatsumi in episode 2 even wonders if she's the designated cook so she can sneak in bites of the food she's preparing. She denies it, while doing exactly that.
* BlackEyesOfCrazy: In the anime, her eyes turn black when she uses her trump card.
* BondOneLiner[=/=]PreMortemOneLiner: "Eliminate!"
* ButNowIMustGo: In the anime, [[spoiler:she leaves following the rebellion's success, shouldering all of Night Raid's darker deeds, never to be seen again.]]
* CainAndAbel: Abel to Kurome's Cain.
* TheComicallySerious: A lot of Akame's comedic value comes from her [[NoSocialSkills lack of social skills]] and her [[BigEater voracious appetite]], always while keeping the same deadpan expression.
* CryCute: When Tatsumi compliments her on not being affected when she loses a comrade, she cries and admits she's actually hurting, but on the inside.
* DangerouslyShortSkirt: A minidress, and she always fights in it.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: She and her sister Kurome were sold by their parents when they were young and forced into the Prime Minister's assassin creation programs. To clarify, her training was being forced into a large forest with 100 other children and [[TrainingFromHell being hunted by vicious Danger Beasts until only a couple were standing with nothing more than a sword.]] [[UpToEleven And that was just the first part.]]
* DefeatMeansFriendship: She was recruited into the Night Raid when she was [[TalkingTheMonsterToDeath successfully talked into it]] by Najenda when she was assigned to kill her.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Starts off initially as an EmotionlessGirl, but begins to become more compassionate after her interactions with [[NiceGuy Tatsumi]].
* DidYouThinkICantFeel: She's usually so calm and composed that Tatsumi thinks she's simply numb to emotions, but she admits that she isn't.
* EmotionlessGirl: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] since she was trained to kill her emotions to be a proficient assassin.
* FastballSpecial: On more than one occasion, Akame has been thrown by a strong ally to attack a foe.
* MarkedChange: In the anime, red marks appear all over her body [[spoiler:once she uses her trump card]].
* MasterSwordswoman: She's an extremely talented swordswoman, probably the best in the series.
* MeaningfulName: "Akame" literally means "[[RedEyesTakeWarning red eyes]]''.
* MiniDressOfPower: Her IconicOutfit.
* MurderousThighs: When Ibara of the Rakshasa Demons manages to take her sword, she breaks his neck with her legs to retrieve it.
* NeverHurtAnInnocent: Her first encounter with Tatsumi has him in the wrong place at the wrong time and with the ''wrong'' idea of who is good and who is bad. [[GenreSavvy She's very aware of this and avoids fighting him.]]
* NoPlaceForMeThere: [[spoiler:In the anime, she disappears after the revolution succeeds, taking all her sins with her.]]
* NoSocialSkills: Akame isn't the best when it comes to social norms and common sense. [[TheGadfly Chelsea]] once tried to lift her skirt to see if Akame would try to stop her, which she fortunately did.
-->'''Chelsea''': I was just testing to see if she had any kind of shyness as a girl. I got worried there for a second.\\
'''Akame''': Course I do! I’ve been taught all forms of common sense!
* TheNotLoveInterest: Normally, you would except the titular heroine to be the male lead's love interest. This not the case with Akame, who is just good friends with Tatsumi with very little to no romantic tension between them. Tatsumi ends up paired off with [[{{Tsundere}} Mine]] instead.
* NotSoStoic: But it’s evident that Akame represses her emotions to be an effective killer and [[TenderTears breaks down in tears]] while berating Tatsumi when he assumes that she already gets over [[spoiler: Sheele’s death]].
** This happens again in the anime [[spoiler:after she killed her younger sister, Kurome, mainly because how much she and Kurome loved each other]].
* RapunzelHair: It reaches down to her ''knees''.
* RedBaron: [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Akame of the Demon Sword Murasame]].
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Her name and her assassination skills invoke this trope
* SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining: Akame's rigorous assassination training makes her one of the strongest combatants in the story in exchange for a [[NoSocialSkills lack of social skills]] and [[EmotionlessGirl repressed emotions]] but her time in the [[TrueCompanions Night Raid]] slowly fixes that.
* TheStoic: She always carries a melancholy look around her teammates and when out in combat.
* SubmissiveBadass: In times of emergency she is given the role of defacto leader in Night Raid but ultimately she is satisfied with being Najenda's NumberTwo.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: She's cold as ice, always ready to kill her assassination targets in cold blood. Still, she's compassionate to innocents and cares a lot about her teammates.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Her appetite for meat would give [[Manga/OnePiece Luffy]] pause.
* TsurimeEyes: Her eyes are focused and sharp, befitting for a stoic and strong ActionGirl.
* VaporWear: A bit of ClothingDamage during her fight against the Rakshasa Demon, Ibara, reveals she doesn't wear anything under her usual uniform.
* WaifFu: Akame is a very lithe girl but she demonstrates [[FlashStep she can move faster than the eye can see]] and [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe bifurcate men]] [[CharlesAtlasSuperpower several times larger than her]] in the same motion.
* WalkingTheEarth: In the epilogue of the anime.
* WhenSheSmiles: A smile from her is a rare treat and are highlighted on each time.

!!! Teigu: Murasame

* KatanasAreJustBetter: It's a katana and can kill anyone
* LogicalWeakness: Despite Murasame's GameBreaker abilities, It's only really effective when it cuts an opponent and [[PoisonedWeapons they succumb to its extremely deadly poison]]. So when faced with opponents like [[PoweredArmor Wave's]] [[NighInvulnerability Grand Chariot]] or [[PeoplePuppets Kurome's]] [[TheUndead Yatsuhusa]], [[WorfBarrage it's nothing more than a regular katana]]
* OneHitKill: Its specialty, thanks to being a...
* PoisonedWeapon: One tiny cut and the poison spreads to your heart and kills you instantly. It’s also said that there’s no antidote for the poison.
* RedBaron: One Cut Killer Murasame.

!! Leone
[[quoteright:193:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akame-ga-kill-leone_7849.jpg]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YuuAsakawa

When she witnesses Tatsumi's ruthless kill of the last noble, she notices his potential and decides to recruit him. Her reason for joining the Night Raid is simply for the fact that she likes to fight and what better outlet for her abilities than to rid the Empire of their evils.

Excelling at information gathering and a strong penchant for battling strong opponents, Leone is often the one whose seen confirming the validity of the targets in which Night Raid is assigned to assassinate. * MeaningfulName: Leone means "lion" in Italian.

* TheTease: Towards Tatsumi.
* {{Tsundere}}: In episode six, after she tag-teams with Tatsumi to beat the drug smugglers, he asks what'll happen to the women the smugglers drugged. She says it's not their concern... then she lets it slip that there's a skilled doctor nearby, and she'll contact him over it. She insists it's because she knows one of the girls who was drugged. All of this happens with a small blush on her cheeks.

Once a high ranking Imperial Officer of the Empire, he defected after his former superior was framed for crimes he didn't commit because he refused to give into the Prime Minister's agenda. Whilst defecting he steals the Teigu Incursio and soon joins Night Raid. Known by his teammates for his passionate behavior, inhuman skill combat skill, and peculiar taste in men, Bulat soon takes a recently joined Tatsumi under his wing and trains him to be a stronger fighter.

His Teigu, Demon Armor: Incursio, is a short sword that can summon a full body armor that enhances the his physical strength and allows him to blend in with the environment.

----
* BadassGay: He's not too subtle about his interest in men. He's also a bonafide badass who could simultaneously take on three of the empire's strongest soldiers (who where also Teigu users) at once. His strength is explicitly compared to Esdeath's. That should give you an idea of how Badass he is.
* BigBrotherMentor: To Tatsumi.

!! Lubbock
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akame-ga-kill-2nd-pv-seventhstyle-006_898.jpg]]
--> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/YoshitsuguMatsuoka

Originally born the fourth son of a wealthy merchant family in a region, Lubbock left his wealthy life behind to follow Najenda when she served in the Empire and rose through he ranks to serve her by her side. When she defected to the rebellion he joined her and faked their deaths by changing the military records of both him and her as K.I.A.

His Teigu, Infinite Uses: Cross Tail, is a garotte on gloves that can be used in a myriad of ways such as enemy detection, makeshift shields, laceration, strangulation, and can be shaped into a number of different weapons.

----

* {{Badass}}: Takes out two of the [[MageKiller Rakshasa Demons]] by himself. [[spoiler: He holds out under torture, successfully fakes being broken by torture and kills Syura.]]
%%* BadassLongcoat
* BromanticFoil: To Tatsumi, being the silly, extroverted pervert to make Tatsumi seem more mature.
* ButtMonkey: Par course for his behavior in the Night Raid. He's either [[PervertRevengeMode beaten to a pulp]] by Leone or [[LaserGuidedKarma running away from Bulat's affection]]. Mine even states this is his designated role in the group.
* CantActPervertedTowardALoveInterest: He's remarkably respectful towards Najenda despite his tendencies.
* CasanovaWannabe: He always tries to woo any cute girl he sees. Unfortunately for him, they're either not interested or [[FemmeFatale trying to kill him]].
* ChivalrousPervert: He's often spending his free time trying to peek on [[MsFanservice Leone]] in the hot springs or cursing Tatsumi for his ChickMagnet status. He does show chivalry sometimes such as when he takes on two Rakshasa Demons to save a young Night Raid spy, and generally dislikes harming women.
* ColdBloodedTorture: After being captured by the [[spoiler:Wild Hunt]], he is subjected to this, including a GroinAttack.
* ConservationOfNinjutsu: Averted. He tends to prefer one on one combat, and excels at that. However, in episode 11 when he encounters several EliteMook all at once, he wisely runs away from them. Considering one gave him trouble, a lot of them was more than he could handle. Though they give chase, Akame fortunately saves him.
* CrazyPrepared: He hides wires under his clothes, around his body and even in his mouth.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He's shown to be the ButtMonkey for his perverted tendencies and jealously of [[ChickMagnet Tatsumi]] during the story, but in the midst of combat he demonstrates he can be quite the cunning and dangerous opponent as shown from his victory over two of the Four Rakshasa Demons, who have been known to be a group skilled in the art of killing Teigu users.
** He takes full advantage of this trope when [[spoiler: being tortured by Syura. He pretends to be broken by his torture in order to use the spare bits of his teigu he keeps hidden in his mouth to break his neck.]]
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Green hair and eyes.
* DisguisedInDrag: One of his many civilian disguises is a woman.
* ExplainingYourPowerToTheEnemy: He spends much of his battles talking about how his powers work, which benefits the viewer. This actually has some practical use, as his talking is often meant to be a distraction.
* FlechetteStorm: Aside from his Imperial Arms, Lubbock also has a few knives handy to throw when he's desperate.
* GreenEyedMonster: ''Incredibly'' jealous of Tatsumi's status as the resident ChickMagnet.
* GroinAttack: As part of [[spoiler:Syura's]] ColdBloodedTorture. [[spoiler:[[{{Squick}} He's missing one testicle now]].]]
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: [[spoiler:Izou cuts off a good chunk of the left side of Lubbock's body during their fight. As Lubbock slowly dies, Izou commends him for holding out as long as he did.]]
* HotBlooded: When it comes to his perverted antics.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: In a 1 on 1 fight, he's a pretty strong fighter, despite his slender appearance. He also has many tricks up his sleeve regarding his teigu, and often fools his opponent into thinking he used his most powerful attack, only to then be lured into a false sense of security when an attack or trap he laid out earlier catches them off guard.
* IfWeSurviveThis: Tells Tatsumi that once the rebellion is over, he'll try expanding his book shop and marry Najenda.
* IKnowMortalKombat: Claims that some of his uses of his wires were inspired by various manga he reads.
* ImaginaryLoveTriangle: He thinks he's competing with Susanoo for Najenda's affections. Najenda and Susanoo's relationship is completely platonic.
* LetsGetDangerous: He has this moment before engaging two Rakshasa Demon warriors.
* LoveAtFirstSight: He fell in love with Najenda the moment he first saw her.
* LovableSexManiac: He's a shameless pervert who constantly peeps on his naked teammates, but it's always played for laughs.
* PeekABangs: His left eye is usually covered by his hair.
* PlayingPossum: He can feign death by using his Cross Tail to cut off his own circulation.
* TheSmartGuy: He's the one that handles the alarms and defenses of the Night Raid's hideouts and he's also skilled in reconnaissance and information gathering.
* StraightMan: Very frequently early on, sharing the duty with Tatsumi.
* SubordinateExcuse: He joined the army and later Night Raid so he could be close to his beloved Najenda.
* TacticalWithdrawal: Regularly runs from fights he is not confident he will win, claiming self-preservation is key for an assassin.
* TrapMaster: A lot of his tactics involve outsmarting and leading his targets into traps using his Imperial Arms.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Najenda. He gave up his comfortable rich life and joined a rebel group of assassins all in order to follow her and remain by her side.
* UnknownRival: He thinks of Susanoo as his rival for Najenda's love.
* WeakButSkilled: While he lacks the raw physical power of [[LightningBruiser Leone]] or the devastating Teigu attack power of [[OneHitKill Akame]], several characters note him to have a great deal of combat experience and a highly tactical mind, often defeating his enemies with intuitive uses of his Teigu.
* WouldHitAGirl: He's seen killing a female assassin caught in one of his traps in episode 3. She begs him to let her go, but he refuses, stating that someone he knew once fell for a similar trap and died as a result. After he's done killing her, he laments having to kill such a lovely lady. And he does this again in episode 18 against the female Rakhasa demon.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Green hair.

!!! Teigu: Cross Tail

* BarrierWarrior: The wires can be weaved into creating shields strong enough to deflect attacks.
* BuildingSwing: Lubbock can do this using his cables.
* DifficultButAwesome: His Cross Tail is noted to take a lot of skill to use and relies heavily on the user's inventiveness and ability to multitask.
* RazorFloss: Cross Tail was made from the body hair of a Danger Beast renown for their extremely durable and sharp body hair. As such Lubbock can alternate between using the threads for either strangulation or laceration.
* RedBaron: Infinite Uses: Cross Tail.
* ShapingYourAttacks: He can shape his thread into a throwing spear, a makeshift shield, armor, and an axe.

!! Mine

-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YukariTamura

One of the more unruly members of the Night Raid. Mine is a temperamental girl who enjoys flaunting her genius amongst her teammates and tends to treat the less fortunate members, such as Tatsumi and Lubbock, like her slaves. She was born and raised on the western border of the empire and was mercilessly ridiculed for her foreign blood. Her mission is to make the country anew so the Revolutionary army's alliance with the People of the West would allow diplomatic relations to grow causing many races to mingle and prevent tragedies like what she had to endure growing up.

Her Teigu, Roman Artillery: Pumpkin, a rifle that can fire highly concentrated piercing shots of spirit energy. Pumpkin's secondary special ability magnifies the power of its shot in proportion of how much danger the user whose wielding it is in.

* ACupAngst: One of the things [[TheGadfly Chelsea]] likes to do to piss her off is point out her flat chest.

* {{Badass}}: When [[spoiler:Tatsumi was about to be executed by Esdeath, she charged into the execution grounds]] and decided to confront [[WorldsStrongestMan her]] and [[FourStarBadass Budo]], the '''two most powerful and feared generals of the Empire''' [[NervesofSteel without any signs of fear]] [[spoiler:in order to rescue Tatsumi]]. Bonus points for ''facing them alone''.
* BadassAdorable: This cute little, frilly dressed {{Tsundere}} is one hell of a sniper.
* BadassBoast: She casually stated the words below [[HopelessBossFight while facing off against General Esdeath and General Budo]].

* BathtubScene: Gets one in episode 9.

* DyingDeclarationOfLove: In the anime, [[spoiler:she dies confessing her love for Tatsumi]].
%%* ElegantGothicLolita
* FieryRedhead: Her hair is closer to pink, but otherwise she fits this trope to a T, being an aggressive {{Tsundere}}.
* GirlishPigtails: One of the characteristics that identify her as a {{Tsundere}}.
* GlassCannon: She has destructive power and range but she [[SquishyWizard lacks any kind of defensive measure against counterattacks.]]
* HairDecorations: Bows.
* HeroicRROD: [[spoiler:She uses all of Pumpkin's power to defeat Budou so that Night Raid can escape. However, she's left in a coma afterwards.]]
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Sheele. They always team up in battle and in a side story, she becomes jealous that Sheele becomes close to a little girl Night Raid are taking care of.
* HypocriticalHumor: She hates how insulting Chelsea is to her comrades yet Tatsumi notes she acted the ''exact'' same way when he first joined.
* InsufferableGenius: In terms of her sniping skill she's no doubt a genius. The only reason other characters don't comment on her impressive skills is because [[{{Pride}} she already beats them to the compliment]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She's a real bitch to Tatsumi when he first joins the Night Raid and she's regularly talks down to most of her teammates whenever they tend to act silly. However, she also proves to be good person who does care for her comrades. She is grateful to people who help her and she [[spoiler:kills Seryu to avenge Sheele's death as well as Seryu desecrating Chelsea's body.]]
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: Mine likes to wear a nice frilly dress whenever she decides to kick ass.
* LastKiss: With [[spoiler:Tatsumi in her death scene]] in the anime.
* LongRangeFighter: She has devastating range and attack power but she's only effective at a distance since most enemies can either [[MadeOfIron withstand]] or [[DodgeTheBullet outright dodge]] Pumpkin's shots.
* NoblewomansLaugh: She does one in episode 3, complete with holding her hand by her mouth.
* OfficialCouple: With [[spoiler:Tatsumi]].
* RapunzelHair: Her GirlishPigtails are about as tall as her.

* StarCrossedLovers: [[spoiler:The Great Lord has hinted that his prophetic powers have told him Mine and Tatsumi's romance will end in tragedy.]]
* TinyTyrannicalGirl: She's small, abrasive and tends to treat Tatsumi as her subordinate at first.
%% * TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Girly Girl to Leone's Tomboy.
* {{Tsundere}}: She always acts condescending and short tempered to her teammates especially when Tatsumi first joins the Night Raid. She's also occasionally sweet and affectionate and she does show that she cares for her teammates such as when she shows contempt for Chelsea for mocking the [[spoiler: fallen Bulat and Sheele]]. Later, she begins to go ''deredere'' on Tatsumi once she begins to fall for him [[spoiler:and when she confesses her feelings for him and he finally gets the idea, she decides they should start dating, stating "he should be grateful". Tatsumi even notices how she's still her abrasive self even when confessing.]]
* TsurimeEyes: A typical trait of a violent and haughty {{Tsundere}}.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: [[spoiler:She charges to rescue Tatsumi from his public execution and faces Budo and Esdeath, ''the two most powerful and feared generals of the Empire'', on her own all in order to save her boyfriend.]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Pink hair.

!!! Teigu: Pumpkin

* AbnormalAmmo: Pumpkin fires highly concentrated piercing shots of spirit energy.
* AwesomeButImpractical: In order to make full use of Pumpkin's destructive potential, its user must be in constant danger.
** The weapon is also prone to overheating at the least appropriate moments.
* CriticalStatusBuff: An ability of Pumpkin is that the power and range of the Teigu increases in proportion to the level of danger its user is in, with the bullets ranging from powerful small sniper shots to large destructive energy blasts when the danger hits its highest.
* InexplicablyAwesome: Not even Mine understands how her weapon works, only that it's an Imperial Arms, making it ancient and very deadly.
* RedBaron: Roman Artillery: Pumpkin.
* SniperRifle: Mine mainly makes use of it for.
* WaveMotionGun: Essentially what Pumpkin becomes when it becomes properly charged.

!! Sheele
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akame-ga-kill-2nd-pv-seventhstyle-005_123.jpg]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MamikoNoto

Growing up in the lower districts of the Capital, Sheele's clumsy nature made her a frequent target for ridicule amongst the people she wronged, leading her to live a life of depression and isolation. After finally making a friend that likes her in spite of her clumsiness she soon loses that friendship when she was forced to kill her friend's ex boyfriend when he attacked the pair in a fit of drugged rage. After losing her parents to a murderous gang out for revenge and effortlessly subduing said gang, she is soon recruited by the Night Raid so she may use her unnatural talent to efficiently kill to fix her society.

Her Teigu, Cutter of Creation: Ecstasy, are a giant pair of scissors made with the strongest materials in the world, allowing them to cut through virtually anything. A secondary ability of Ecstasy allows the user to emit a bright light from the blades, effectively blinding unsuspecting foes.

----

* ActionGirl: She can easily cut her enemies in half with her scissors.
* {{Adorkable}}: Her clumsiness makes her really cute.
* AnimeChineseGirl: She wears a {{qipao}} and she grew up in a very oriental-looking district.
* ApologeticAttacker: She has a tendency to apologize to her victims [[BondOneLiner after she kills them]].
* BadassAdorable: Don't let her appearance fool you, this cute {{Meganekko}} is really good at killing people.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She's really nice and clumsy, but she won't hesitate to cut you in half with her scissors.
* BrutalHonesty: When asked to convince Tatsumi to make his decision and join the Night Raid all she simply tells him is that he [[HeKnowsTooMuch knows the location of where their hideout is]] so he has no choice but to [[AnOfferYouCantRefuse join or get killed.]]
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Purple hair and eyes.
* CuteClumsyGirl: Perhaps her most defining trait outside combat as she’s useless at many mundane tasks such as shopping, cooking, and cleaning. She even forgets important details regarding targets and has to be reminded on a daily basis.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: She was always ridiculed for her clumsiness until she gained a friend who didn't mind it. That is, until one night her friend's doped up ex boyfriend barged into her house and nearly choked her to death until Sheele killed him. Unfortunately, her friend ostracized her and a gang of men working under the ex killed her parents and was about to do the same to her until she killed them.
* DefiantToTheEnd: Even while she's slowly dying from [[spoiler:being ''ripped in half'']] Sheele has enough strength to invoke Ecstacy's LightEmUp ability, allowing Mine to escape further enemy reinforcements.
* DissonantSerenity: This is what makes her such an effective killer. She can shut down all unnecessary thoughts and focus her concentration on eliminating her target.
* EatenAlive: Suffers this fate.

* ParentalAbandonment: See DarkAndTroubledPast above.
* SacrificialLion: She's made into a comforting figure for Tatsumi with a sympathetic back story and friendship with Mine only to be the first Night Raid killed off.
* ScarsAreForever: She has a scar on her right cheek that she tells Tatsumi was the result of a tough battle. [[spoiler: In actuality, [[CuteClumsyGirl the scar was caused by a careless Sheele scraping her cheek across a sharp tree branch.]]]]
* ScaryShinyGlasses: She does this from time to time.
* SmashSisters: With Mine.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Her hair is purple.
* ZettaiRyouiki: Grade A.

!!! Teigu: Ecstacy

* AbsurdlySharpBlade: Or scissors. It can cut through [[spoiler: Incursio and presumably Grand Chariot]] which are known for their near perfect defence.
* LightEmUp: Has an ability to generate a bright light to blind and momentarily stun opponents.

!! Najenda
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akame-ga-kill-2nd-pv-seventhstyle-008_1951.jpg]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/RisaMizuno

The head of the assassination group Night Raid, Najenda was a former general of the Empire that made the decision to defect to the Revolutionary Army after witnessing how morally bankrupt and corrupt the regime was from the actions of her colleague, General Esdeath. She successfully bands an army of her men together to defect to the Revolutionaries until she is blind sided by Esdeath's army in which she nearly lost all of her men and narrowly escaped death by her... with the exception of a shattered arm and a lost eye. During Dr. Stylish's assault on the Night Raid's hideout she reveals her two new recruits: Chelsea and the humanoid Teigu, Susanoo.

Her last known Teigu, Speed of Lightning: Susanoo, is a living humanoid Teigu that functions as the user's bodyguard and can do household chores extremely efficiently and can fight on behalf of the user.

----

* AbsoluteCleavage: She's almost always wearing a shirt with a low neckline.
* ActionGirl: At one time she was nearly as strong as ''Esdeath''.
* ArtificialLimbs: Her right arm is mechanical, destroyed in an ambush by Esdeath along with an eye, when the latter found out that she had defected.
* BerserkButton: Don't say that she [[LadyLooksLikeADude looks like a man]], and don't bring up her age.
* BigGood: As leader of the Night Raid and The Revolution.
* BoyishShortHair: Gives her a masculine appearance to the point where Susanoo compares her to his former ''male'' owner.
* BraidsOfAction: When she was younger.
* CastFromLifespan: She is able to give Susanoo an enormous power boost, but it requires her to sacrifice a portion of her lifespan.
* CelibateHeroine: She's too focused on leading a rebellion to think about dating. Although she admits she could consider starting a relationship with Lubbock after the conflict is over.
* DefectorFromDecadence: She used to be a general in the Imperial army alongside Esdeath, but joined the Revolutionaries after seeing her in action.
* EyepatchOfPower: She lost her eye to Esdeath.
* GenreSavvy: She knows that she's no match for Esdeath in a straight up fight. So she deliberately hatches plans that either lures Esdeath away from her true objective, or manages to cause targets she's protecting to flee from her protection, where Najenda and her crew can then dispatch them without Esdeath's intervention.
* HandicappedBadass: After losing an eye and her right arm she comments that she can only use about 40% of her original strength. This doesn't prevent the fact that she can still [[CurbStompBattle curb stomp]] general class opponents with ease.
* IdenticalStranger: The reason Susanoo responded to her is because she resembles his previous master, [[CrowningMomentOfFunny who much to Tatsumi and Leone's amusement]], [[LadyLooksLikeADude was a man]].
* InSeriesNickname: [[TheLeader "Boss"]] and [[EmbarrassingNickname "The Hunk of the Rebellion"]].
* IronLady: Has the cool effectiveness down pat. This is not a woman you want to cross. And she has PowerHair, to boot!
* TheLeader: A mix of Type I and II. She is the one who assigns the separate members of Night Raid to the requests that are given to them and pairs them according to whose strength is suited for the task. It was her plan that tricks Esdeath into wiping out a gang of bandits for the Night Raid and leads to the [[spoiler: death of Bols and the weakening of Kurome]].
* PlotArmor: It is known that activating [[CastFromHitPoints Magatama Manifestation]] three times kills the user. [[spoiler:But when Najenda activates it for the third time in her battle with Esdeath in the Bolic arc she luckily survives only due to the fact that Susanoo reached his physical limit before her life force did.]]
* PragmaticHero: As RebelLeader, much of the series' bloodshed and tragedies can be traced back to her ambition. However, all of her actions are for the sake of a better future.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: When she first meets Tatsumi, she gives him an offer to join Night Raid and says they won't kill him if he refuses, though they can't let him leave either since he knows where their base is. She also tells him about what they do, which is to kill people who do evil things, and that they're fighting against the Empire to ease the burden on the people. Her painting the image that way helps convince him to join.
* RocketPunch: With her right arm, and can use it to pull herself forward too.
* ShipTease: She's not terribly opposed to the idea of hooking up with Lubbock, but she'd rather hook-up after the conflict is over.
* SmokingIsCool: Najenda is rarely seen without a cigar. She especially likes to smoke while looking badass.
* TalkingTheMonsterToDeath: In past she somehow succeeded in persuading Akame to abandon her mission of assassinating her and defect from the Empire, while also effectively recruiting her into the Night Raid and joining the Revolutionary Army. What makes this ''more'' incredible was that at the time Akame was the Empire's ''top assassin''.
* TragicKeepsake: [[spoiler: She keeps Lubbock's goggles with her after his death.]]
* YouMonster: Delivers this reaction to Kurome. She despises Kurome's Teigu because she feels it desecrates the dead.

!!! Teigu: See Susanoo

* ArtificialHuman: He was a Teigu meant to accompany important members of the Empire over long journeys acting as a cook, a medic, and a bodyguard all in one.
* {{Asexual}}: He claims that as a Teigu, he can't feel love. However, Lubbock thinks that maybe he just needs to find the right person.
* AttackReflector: Mirror of Yata, a huge shield capable of reflecting any projectile attack.
* BattleButler: He was created to be a bodyguard, so he also knows how to cook and tend house.
* BerserkButton: Nothing ever pissed him off more than learning that one of their targets had a habit of tainting people's food with am addictive drug.
* BigDamnHeroes: In his first appearance.
* {{BFS}}: Ame no Murakamo, a gigantic sword capable of cutting through [[{{Kaiju}} Destaghoul]] ''in one swing.''

* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Blue hair and eyes.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: [[SuperMode Magatama Manifestation]], which absorbs his user's life force to power him up. Doing this three times will kill the user.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: He's introduced in episode 11 in the anime, and knocks out Dr. Stylish's EliteMooks with little trouble while having no issue with the knockout drug that was keeping the other Night Raid members aside from Tatsumi incapacitated. * FlashStep: Jewel of Yasakani.
* HealingFactor: Being a humanoid Teigu allows him regenerate destroyed limbs within seconds.

* RealMenCook: Takes the role of being the Night Raid’s chef alongside Akame.
* SuperMode: Magatama Manifestation, Susanoo's trump card that gives him a major power boost, allowing him to use powerful techniques such as [[PublicDomainArtifact Ame no Murakumo, Mirror of Yata, and the Jewel of Yasakani]] but [[CastFromHitPoints kills his master after being used three times]].
* TeamChef: He's known for making the giant creatures [[BigEater Akame]] captures into luxurious meals for the rest of the group.

--> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/KaoriNazuka

A young girl who joins Night Raid later on in the story. Her town was eradicated by the Empire upon suspicion of harboring rebels. Her Teigu allows her to take on a multitude of different disguises.

----
!!! Tropes associated to Chelsea

* BathtubScene: Gets one in episode 12.
* BoringButPractical: She assassinates a target in episode 15 simply by striking at an artery in the man's neck. Contrast that to the more flashy kills done by other characters, who also usually tend to sever limbs, heads, and torsos.
* BrutalHonesty: In episode 12, she says Night Raid, while having semi-competent members, lacks good cohesion and will likely fail a mission. [[spoiler:She was saying that largely because the last group she was with ended up dying, and didn't want them to also get killed.]]
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: She usually mocks this kind of idealism, but after meeting Tatsumi she begins taking a more active role in missions, even endangering herself at times.
* CruelToBeKind: Chelsea seems to insult both Sheele and Bulat at first in episode 12, which ticks off Mine and Tatsumi. [[spoiler:However, she later shares with him that the last group she was with died except for her, and was hoping their unit cohesion was strong so they could assist each other and survive.]]
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Orange hair and eyes.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: When she's properly introduced in episode 12, she at first plays with Akame's hair, then offers her a lollipop. She also has a bad start with Mine, insulting the latter's [[ACupAngst small chest size.]] And later a cat shows up, causing Mine to go through CutenessProximity and give her cake to the cat. Said cat actually turns out to be Chelsea demonstrating her deception abilities. She also tricks Tatsumi when he attempted to prank her in the bath.
* FlowerMotifs: Hydrangea. They are seen in her backstory when she completed her first assassination [[spoiler:and when she's killed by Kurome's puppets]].
* TheGadfly: In her free time, she [[ItAmusedMe enjoys getting reactions out of her teammates]] and especially likes pushing Mine’s buttons, such as [[ACupAngst mocking her chest size]] and tricking her with her transformations.
* GuileHeroine: Since she's not a strong combatant, she has to rely on disguises to get close enough to her target to kill them.
* HairDecorations: Her butterfly headphone accessory.
* HiddenDepths: Her first kill was a viceroy who stripped his own civilians bare naked and killed them in broad daylight for sport. When she saw how positively it affected her fellow citizens, she sought to make the world a better place by becoming an assassin. However, somewhere along the line, she realized that being an assassin isn't nearly as romanticized as she thought. While she maintains her PayEvilUntoEvil mindset, by the time she kills [[spoiler:a NiceGuy like Bols]], she admits that it's not something she enjoys doing anymore.
* InHarmsWay: She initially criticizes individuals who would risk their lives doing the right thing and would not endanger herself unless the risk was minimal. She gradually begins to adopt Tatsumi's more bold tendencies. [[spoiler: This leads to her death at Kurome's hands.]]
* LoveEpiphany: Much like Esdeath, Tatsumi's resolve and his smile causes her to blush a bit and look at him at a different light in episode 15 after he says he has no problems fighting against the Jaegers, despite having gotten to know some of them.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: She starts running her fingers through Akame's hair seconds after meeting her.
* OralFixation: Always seen with a lollipop in her mouth.
* RedHeadedHeroine: Well, "heroine" is a bit strong, but she's certainly a redhead and aligned with Night Raid, which qualifies her nonetheless.
* {{Revenge}}: She kills [[spoiler: Bols]], who was the agent of the Empire that wiped out her town. Nevertheless, she herself admits she found it rather painful to do so.
* SmitingEvilFeelsGood: She found purpose and pride in eliminating evil from the world, but understands this also makes her a murderer, herself.
* SoleSurvivor: Of the other Night Raid assassination team that was annihilated by the Three Beasts.
* SweetTooth: She keeps a constant stock of lollipops, and later swipes cake from Mine.
* TastesLikeFriendship: After just meeting her, she wins Akame over by giving her candy.
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: Unlike [[GoOutWithASmile Sheele]] and [[ObiWanMoment Bulat]] her [[RasputinianDeath death]] was not slow or peaceful whatsoever. Once Kurome realizes that Chelsea [[spoiler:killed Bols, Kurome ''utterly annihilates'' Chelsea for it. [[{{Fingore}} All of her fingers on her left hand get shot off]], [[AnArmAndALeg her right arm gets lopped off]], [[InTheBack she gets shot in the torso]], and [[OffWithHerHead she's finally decapitated]]. ''Then'' her head is stuck on a pike, while the rest of her body was dissected by Esdeath for information (since Chelsea was a shapeshifter). Seryu fed the remains to Koro... which caused Seryu and Koro's own deaths as a result.]] To be fair, Chelsea did manage to leave a potentially fatal GameBreakingInjury on Kurome, who hasn't been the same fighter ever since.
* WeakButSkilled: Not as good in combat as the other women of Night Raid, but she's remarkably capable of deception and [[PressurePoint striking at vital points]]. [[spoiler: Too bad Kurome had been doped.]]
* WeHardlyKnewYe: May or may not be inverted. It appears she plays a rather heavy role in Akame ga Kill Zero, where she's given a fair amount of screentime.

!!! Teigu: Gaea Foundation

* MasterOfDisguise: She can take on the form of anything from a cat to a little girl.
* TransformationTrinket: In the form of a makeup box.

[[folder:The Jaegars]]

[[quoteright:340:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jeagers_black_clothing_2564.jpg]]
!Tropes associated with Jaegers:

* ALighterShadeOfBlack: They can be very ruthless, but they are not barbarians. They don't indiscriminately kill the Empire's citizens unless they suspect them to working with LaResistance. Every member at least have their own share PetTheDog moments. This is very stark contrast to Wild Hunt where they are willing to kill the Empire's citizens for ''any'' reason ([[ForTheEvulz even for fun]]).
* AntiVillain: Some of the members such as Wave and Bols are this, especially considering that the Jaegars themselves don't actively abuse the populace of the Empire and are actually intent on protecting them. Unlike [[EvilerThanThou Wild Hunt]].
* BadassInANiceSuit: The first time the group assembled, their first order of business is to meet the emperor in stylish black suits.
* BigBad: Esdeath, being the leader of the group.
* TheBrute: Seryu, alongside her Teigu, Coro. She's big on collateral damage and weapons and relies on heavy firepower more than subtlety.
* TheDreaded: Esdeath is already bad enough news for anyone opposing the Empire. So naturally the team she leads also brings fear to rebels.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Even the worst members of their group have a strict moral code.
* EvilCounterpart: To Night Raid.
* EvilGenius: Dr.Stylish, being a MadScientist.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5qhvynBgsE Jaegers. ]]
* PunchClockVillain: Other than [[CuteAndPsycho Seryu]], [[PsychoForHire Esdeath]] and [[MadScientist Dr. Stylish]] most of the members see being in the group as just a job and generally aren't villainous otherwise outside of combat.
* ThePsychoRangers: To Night Raid. Tatsumi even lampshades how similar the two opposing sides are.
** Esdeath to Najenda, the leaders of their respective groups and great tacticians.
** Kurome to Akame, child assassins who are one of the strongest memebers. Bonus points being also sisters.
** Wave to Tatsumi, newcomers to the team who become the OnlySaneMan. They also wear PoweredArmor with conflicting colors (White/Red vs Black/Blue).
** Run to Leone, yellow-themed characters who transform into animals (beast vs bird).
** Seryu to Mine, ruthless young girls devoted to their team and carry powerful ranged weapons. [[spoiler: This makes their fight well fit.]]
** Dr. Stylish to Lubbock, crazy geniuses with glove Teigus.
** Koro to Susanoo, being organic Teigus.
** Bols to Chelsea. One thinks he's a bad person despite being very nice, the other thinks she's doing good while being very rude and jaded. Also, one focuses on strength while the other uses deception.
* VillainousFriendship: Save for Dr. Stylish, they all seem to genuinely enjoy each other's company.
* VillainsOutShopping: Interestingly, the Jaegers are seen during their downtime from fighting, and some of them even have their own interesting background, such as Bols cooking for the others.

!! Esdeath
[[quoteright:206:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akame-ga-kill-2nd-pv-seventhstyle-009_9976.jpg]]
--> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/SatomiAkesaka

Leader of the Jaegars. A high-ranking general and the most powerful fighter in the Empire. A true sadist, she is an expert in torture and ''loves'' to inflict it upon others (indeed, the prospect of her "personal" attention is seen as a [[FateWorseThanDeath terrible fate]]). Ironically, when offered a title of nobility for hunting down and destroying Night Raid, she instead wanted them to find someone she believed could be her OneTrueLove (to the utter shock of everyone in the room).

Her Teigu, Demon God Manifestation: Demon's Extract, is the blood of an ultra class Danger Beast that she drank, allowing her manipulate ice with immense skill.

----

* AbductionIsLove: PlayedForLaughs. She couldn't understand why knocking out Tatsumi, dragging him to the palace and slapping a collar on him isn't a good idea. [[ComicallyMissingThePoint She just wants him to stand out as her lover]].
* AdaptationDistillation: After showing us what she did with the hero of the Northern Tribes, the anime adaptation removes several later instances of Esdeath's actual Sadist tendencies, relegating it to little more than her being a strong, though clearly AxCrazy, BloodKnight. It is still hammered home that she's a PsychoForHire, but most of what she's done is toned down, and it isn't the first instance of censorship in the anime.
* AffablyEvil: An extreme case where both sides are roughly balanced. She is a murderous, warmongering sadist who enjoys torture, pillages towns, and firmly believes in a survival of the fittest mindset. She is ''also'' AMotherToHerMen, expresses VillainRespect fairly frequently, doesn't care about achieving power (and turned down an offer of nobility when asked directly), [[{{Sadist}} mostly]] [[PunchClockVillain sees her line of work as just a job]] (and a way to find her OneTrueLove), and generally isn't villainous - some would even say ''kind'' - outside of combat.
* AMotherToHerMen: Surprisingly, considering her infamous sadism and cruelty. She will torture them as punishment for major screw ups, but it's light compared to what she does to enemies. In fact, when Run asked her point blank what they should do if confronted by her OneTrueLove, Esdeath ''unhesitatingly'' told him that if their lives were in danger, they had permission to kill him (although she privately admitted that she'd prefer to add Tatsumi as a subordinate rather than be faced with the scenario of killing him).
* AllWomenAreDomsAllMenAreSubs: Goes right along with her pure sadistic nature, but when she thinks Tatsumi is a masochist[[note]] After he asks her to PinchMe [[/note]], she is quite over joyed and thinks it's further proof they are made for each other.
* AnIcePerson: Her Teigu, Demon's Extract, can create ice from nothing, lots of ice. In fact, it's said to be the most powerful teigu in existence.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking / AsskickingEqualsAuthority: She's the {{Badass}} among badasses, outright stated to be the WorldsStrongestWoman, and because of this, she has one of the highest authorities in the Empire, is given a license to pretty much do whatever she wants, and anything that she wants will ultimately be given to her.
* AxCrazy: One of her more infamous moments came in her fight with Leone. Esdeath cut off Leone's ''breast'', just to see how quickly Leone could regenerate (and don't worry, she did regenerate pretty quickly). This is another instance where Esdeath's brutality is toned down in the anime - she never even meets Leone, let alone fights her, although the sequence where she scares Leone off from her KillingIntent remains. In general, many of the more horrific scenes, whether they had Esdeath or not, were removed entirely, which leaves Esdeath as still AxCrazy, but relatively hands-off in the anime.
* {{Badass}}: Indisputably the most powerful fighter in the series, ''bar none''.
* TheBaroness: The Sexpot type with the Rosa Klebb fear factor. She's attractive, incredibly sadistic, smitten with the young hero and is considered the most terrifying warrior of the Empire.
* {{Bathos}}: Casually slaughtering Danger Beasts in between bouts of acting like a schoolgirl with a crush on Tatsumi.
* BloodKnight: The reason she brutally kills all but a few people when putting down a rebellion. She wants that hatred to be preserved and spread once more, so another revolt happens in time, and that she may fight again. Hopefully against stronger/more worthy opponents.
* BreakoutVillain
* BreakTheBadass: She’s capable of doing this to every opponent but notable mention goes to ''[[SpiritedCompetitor Leone]]'' who flees from her just from the pressure of her ''KillingIntent''.
* CallingYourAttacks: Doesn't seem like she usually does this, but in episode 14 she comments that she did it specifically to show off for Tatsumi.
* TheChiefsDaughter: Back in her youth, she was the daughter of the Partas Clan Chief.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She literally smashed Suzuka into a wall for molesting Tatsumi and later gives Mine a terrifying DeathGlare when [[spoiler:she reveals herself as Tatsumi's girlfriend]].
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: A RunningGag of hers, particularly when it involves Tatsumi. See AbductionIsLove above for just one example.
* CommissarCap: Fitting with her Nazi-esque motif.
* CovertPervert: When she gets Tatsumi in her room after slapping a collar on him, and he attempts to leave by claiming he needed to shower, she actually says "[[FemaleGaze Maybe we should have showered together...]]".
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Blue hair and eyes.
* CuteAndPsycho: She's AxCrazy as all-hell, and yet she can smile and blush like an innocent girl or a kindly mother. Tatsumi finds himself unnerved by it - he abhors her psycho side, but he's attracted to her cute/nice side.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: She also lets some of her opponents go, so as to spread more hatred towards the Empire and incite rebellions which she would then brutally suppress.
* DangerouslyShortSkirt: A minidress with the bottom modified like a skirt, so she has the short part down. Also the [[WorldsStrongestMan World's Strongest Woman]], so ''you better bet'' she got the dangerous part down.
* DarkActionGirl: She's sadistic, vicious and is known as The Empire's Strongest for damn good reason.
* {{Determinator}}: Esdeath is one dedicated woman who just won't give up on something she wants, as shown in her pursuit of Tatsumi. [[spoiler:When he refused to join her and rejected her love one last time because of having a girlfriend now, she had to execute him under the Empire's orders. She then pretended to pull an IfICantHaveYou and she planned to wound him bad enough so that he will seem dead, then take him away to presumably nurse him back to health and resume her attempts to get him to fall for her.]]
* DoomedHometown: She was pretty devastated to learn that her village was destroyed by a rival hunting clan. Even today, she mourns the loss of her father and her village.
* TheDragon: To Prime Minister Honest. Even though she's a much larger threat to the heroes (and world!) than the FatBastard, she's perfectly content to serve him as long as he gives her enemies to fight.
* DragonInChief: She's only one in a long line of generals working for Prime Minister Honest (himself the root of all the corruption in the capitol), but she's [[SpotlightStealingSquad far more prominent]], [[InvincibleVillain far more powerful]], and [[TheHeavy holds much greater sway over the story than anyone else]], including Honest and [[OverlordJr Syura]]. In many ways, the only reason Honest is still the Prime Minister is because he's providing Esdeath with more and more enemies to fight, but if you mistreat her subordinates, you can kiss your ass ''goodbye'', and she's already proven that even the resident OverlordJr isn't safe from her wrath. Often times, it's very easy to mistake her as the BigBad instead.
* DragonWithAnAgenda: Doesn't seem overly interested in the political scheming of the Prime Minister, she just loves to fight and he happens to provide her with enemies to crush. She also tells an [[spoiler: imprisoned Tatsumi she will force the Prime Minister to free him if he agrees to follow her]].
* TheDreaded: She's notorious for her power as well as her cruelty, to the point where most people would rather haul ass than to face her.
* EntitledToHaveYou: She thinks this about Tatsumi.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Having previously established the the Prince of the North was an unstoppably powerful warrior who'd never lost a battle, the very first time Esdeath appears in person said prince is naked, chained and collared, kneeling at her feet, literally licking her boots. She promptly kills him with one kick, almost as an afterthought.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: One of the clearer examples amongst the Jaegers; she finds Wild Hunt to be obnoxious and disgusting, most notably, and she found Seryu to be far to AxCrazy, so she [[PetTheDog told Kurome and Wave to loosen her up]] and reel in her SanitySlippage.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Tatsumi attempts to convince her to use her influence to better the Empire from within by appealing to the good side of her he's seen: He tries to explain how the drastic class gap could keep people who loved each other apart, but her obsession with SocialDarwinist philosophy causes her immediate response to be that she can't comprehend something like that. To her, the strong fight for what they want and if they're strong enough to survive, they do. If they don't, they're too weak and she doesn't care.
* EvilCounterpart: To Najenda.
* FinalBoss: Serves as one in episode 24 of the anime. Despite the Empire falling, Esdeath vows to continue her "hunt". And if she can't find any rebellions to put down, she'll simply start one. [[spoiler:Fortunately she's stopped by Akame before she's able to put that into action.]]
* ForcefulKiss: She steals a kiss from Tatsumi twice. Although the second time was because she wanted to know if they were living in an illusion when they were sent to an island by Syura (and says no, it's real, because the sensations are too strong for it to be fake). Nevertheless, [[ClingyJealousGirl Mine]] wasn't happy when Tatsumi told her about it.
* FourStarBadass: When you kick as much ass as her there's no other position except as a general.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: She used to be a normal little girl from the Northern Frontier Lands who lived happily with her father and loved nothing more than hunting. As she grew up, her father emphasized SocialDarwinist philosophy in her upbringing for her own sake; the Danger Beasts running rampant around their homeland meant that she'd die if she couldn't become a force to be reckoned with by the time she became old enough to hunt. However, her village was later wiped out during a raid by an enemy tribe. Fifteen years, the death of her father, the destruction of her village, and the drinking of demon blood later, and she's the most feared warrior in the entire series.
* GoOutWithASmile: [[spoiler:In episode 24 of the anime, after being mortally wounded by Akame, she smiles as she cradle's Tatsumi's corpse and slowly freezes herself and him, before disappearing into the air after the ice vaporizes them both.]]
* GratuitousGerman: Most of her named attacks fall under this. [[spoiler: Averted with her [[Myth/HinduMythology trump card]].]]
* HeartbrokenBadass: After Tatsumi manages to escape from her... [[VillainousCrush love]].
* HeroKiller: She's responsible for the destruction of many prominent forces opposing the Empire, so she always had a fierce reputation (even Leone refused to fight her), but she definitely becomes one when she kills [[spoiler:Susanoo]].
* HiddenDepths: She may be a SocialDarwinist with a sadistic streak and a penchant for torture, but she's [[VillainTakesAnInterest looking for people who are strong]], so she may recruit them under her umbrella. If she sees you as strong, you're earned her respect, and she will [[UndyingLoyalty treat you as if you were family]]. Plus, she's looking for her OneTrueLove (no, really - and everyone who hears this is equally surprised). She's even overjoyed at the idea of said OneTrueLove being a masochist (which is [[PetTheDog oddly considerate]] of her). Perhaps because of that, she '''hates''' over-hyped strength (meaning, great fighters who turn out to be mere chumps when they face her, as she finds it incredibly boring). Even though she clearly enjoys annihilating her opponents, she has expressed a fairly strong sense of disappointment whenever they prove to be not as powerful as she thought; she regrets nothing, but appears sullen and bitter that they were not strong enough to challenge her. In addition, while she is merciless to her enemies, she's the type that would not accept mercy done to herself either; do not hold back, because she wouldn't hold back either.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: She's a sadistic SocialDarwinist who doesn't care how corrupt the empire becomes as long as she can fight, yet she respects strength above everything else, so if she thinks you're strong, she'll treat you almost like a mother or a very quirky older sister. She may be complicit in allowing the corruption of the Prime Minister, but she has enough of a code of honor not to actively torment the people of the Empire, and prefers to fight only active enemies of the Prime Minister. Furthermore, for all of her SocialDarwinist bravado, she has a ''massive'' problem with people who harm her subordinates, so even though she believes it is natural for the weak to die, she will take time out of her hands to avenge their deaths anyway, even though it goes against the very creed she's honoring her father over. In many ways, she's ''earned'' the loyalty of her fellow Jaegers, and she's [[PetTheDog actually very sweet]] to anyone whom she thinks is worth her time.
* HopelessSuitor: No matter how hard she tries, Tatsumi absolutely refuses to join her and become her lover. This comes to a head when [[spoiler:Tatsumi is revealed as a member of Night Raid and tells her he has a girlfriend now]] and Esdeath makes one last desperate attempt to make Tatsumi fall for her and become her subordinate. Once it becomes clear Tatsumi won't change his mind, [[IfICantHaveYou Esdeath decides to kill him so he can't be with anyone else]] [[spoiler:only to reveal in her inner thoughts that she never planned on actually killing him and still planned on getting him to fall for her.]]
* IControlMyMinionsThrough: Kindness, ironically. Despite her brutal philosophy, she's very kind (in her own way) and caring to her subordinates. She'll certainly torture them if they screw up badly, but she doesn't kill them, never cripples them, always heals them, and keeps it fairly light compared to her enemies. In fact, it's actually pretty rare for her to mistreat any of her subordinates ''at all'', and she tends to transfer money intended for her to her FacelessGoons instead. When Prime Minister Honest brings it up, Esdeath replies that she knows her soldiers will fight harder for her if they adore her rather than fear her. And to be fair, [[AMotherToHerMen her relationship with the Jaegers]] in particular shows that [[PetTheDog the devotion is mutual on her part]].
* IcyBlueEyes: To fit her general disposition, she has appropriately colored light blue eyes.
* IfICantHaveYou: She repeatedly tries her best to get Tatsumi to join her, and grows more desperate towards the end. Even when he let it slip that [[spoiler:he's already dating another girl]], she keeps trying, and clearly feels awful that he keeps rejecting her. Since he won't ever leave Night Raid, she ultimately decides to put Tatsumi up for a PublicExecution [[spoiler:but doesn't intend to actually kill him; instead, she plans to wound him bad enough so that he will seem dead, then take him away to presumably nurse him back to health and resume her attempts to get him to fall for her.]]
* ImTakingHimHomeWithMe: Tatsumi is the first person she encounters who fits her criteria for her perfect match, so she kidnaps him with the entire stadium full of spectators watching. No joke! She slaps a collar around his neck, starts to drag him off, and ''knocks him out when he asks her to wait a moment.''
-->'''Tatsumi:''' WAIT! Hold on a--\\
'''Esdeath:''' ''(Hits Tatsumi on the back of the neck.)'' No, I will not wait. Lets go to the palace where we can talk alone. \\
''Esdeath slings an unconsious Tatsumi over her shoulder and walks off.)''\\
''(A panel showing the spectators' reactions that includes a dumbfounded man, a stunned woman, and an utterly distraught Esdeath fanboy.)''\\
'''Lubbock:''' [[BigWhat WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED??!!]]
* InLoveWithYourCarnage: She gets quite turned on when fighting against Tatsumi's [[spoiler:powered up mode]].
* {{Jerkass}}: She's actually ''very'' aware of how the Prime Minister is manipulating the emperor and allowing the Capital to become corrupt and rampant with crime, but doesn't really care as long as she can fight and recruit strong people. Her adherence to SocialDarwinism is the main reason Tatsumi doesn't think LoveRedeems in her case.
* TheJuggernaut: In the course of the entire story Esdeath has ''never'' been harmed when she enters a fight. If her opponents aren't done in by her OneHitKill blows, they are immediately incapacitated or [[ColdBloodedTorture worse]]. This comes to a head in the Bolic arc, when she takes down [[spoiler: [[PoweredArmor Incursio Tatsumi]], [[LightningBruiser Leone]], [[SuperMode Magatama Susanoo]], and [[HandicappedBadass Najenda]] ]] ''singlehandedly''.
--->'''Najenda''': If you make a mistake, we'll crash head on into Esdeath. We don't have enough soldiers to face her yet.\\
'''Tatsumi''': How many do you think we'll need to defeat her?\\
'''Najenda''': [[NoKillLikeOverkill Fifty thousand elite soldiers]], and [[UpToEleven at least ten Teigu users like Akame.]]
* KickTheSonOfABitch: She helps put Syura on a HumiliationConga and forces Wild Hunt to disband as payback for killing one of her Jaegers. Wild Hunt '''definitely had it coming'''.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qP7JqSVC7gc Esdeath.]] Essentially the theme for the Jaegars without the lyrics.
* LifeOrLimbDecision: In the anime, [[spoiler:Akame wounds her left arm in their final battle. Esdeath then cuts it off to prevent the poison from spreading through her body.]]
* LightningBruiser: Most of her blows are OneHitKill and she's fast enough to dodge attacks from [[spoiler: [[PoweredArmor Incursio Tatsumi]]]] and [[SuperMode Magatama Susanoo]] ''simultaneously''. That's not even taking into account of her [[AnIcePerson Teigu]].
* LoveAtFirstSight: She falls for Tatsumi after watching him win a tournament and she goes to greet him personally. While he's expecting a cash payment, she instead puts a leash on him, then knocks him out and takes him into the palace.
* LoveFreak: She's pretty damn obsessed with Tatsumi, which makes her simultaneously CuteAndPsycho.
* LoveRedeems: {{Subverted}}. Tatsumi realized that she can't be changed from her current standpoint, because she isn't just a product of society or her time; she really is insane and nothing will change that, so he figures that she ''needs'' to lose if there is to be any progress at all.
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: [[spoiler:In the anime she cuts off her own arm to avoid Murasame's killing effect and isn't slowed down at all afterward.]]
* MamaBear: This is a recurring theme with Esdeath. Despite everything, she's rather protective of her subordinates. When River, Nyau, and Daidara were all killed, Esdeath - naturally - cursed them for being too weak and claimed it was "only natural" for them to die. Yet, she still gave each a proper burial, planted flowers on each of their tombstones, bowed her head, and declared her desire to avenge their deaths anyway. Also, despite wholeheartedly believing that the weak should be left to rot, she's known to comfort her comrades when they are in emotional pain (like Seryu), advises and mentors them like a mother, puts their families under her protection, and often swears revenge if any of her soldiers were killed. In addition, after one of her subordinates was killed by Wild Hunt, Esdeath swears to exact revenge, despite Wild Hunt's leader being ''the Prime Minister's son''.
* MarshmallowHell: Hugs Tatsumi's face into her chest in Episode 14.
---> '''Esdeath''': Let's get to know one another better!
* MeaningfulName: Esdeath --> S Desu, which means "I am a sadist" in Japanese
* MiniDressOfPower: Part of her IconicOutfit.
* MsFanservice: Even more so than Leone. Many a MaleGaze is dedicated to Esdeath.
* MrsRobinson: Esdeath is in her early twenties and she tries to make Tatsumi who is in his teens fall for her. She even states that she prefers younger men... Oh and the reason for that is because she want to be the dominant partner in the relationship as she stated.
* NatureVersusNurture: It is true that her SocialDarwinist mindset is the result of being raised in a very rural, unforgiving area of the continent where Danger Beasts ran rampant and her tribe being wiped out by a rival tribe. However, her penchant for sadism and enjoyment of torture is implied to be nature, not nurture. The northern tribes who decimated her village? She holds no ill will towards them, because as her father once said about her mother, if they lost, it was because they were too weak, and it is the natural order of things in the world. She decimated them because [[PunchClockVillain that was what her job entailed]], and she admits she probably would've killed them eventually anyway even if she wasn't a general (since they were a rival hunting tribe to begin with). Nevertheless, she still mourns the loss of her father and hometown, ''does'' protect the normal people of the Empire, prefers to cut loose only on her enemies, and she has since developed a massive BerserkButton towards ''anyone'' who harms her subordinates, so the question is rather ''how much'' of a sadist would she have been if things played out differently for her life. And to be fair, being given a name (see MeaningfulName below) that forced her to claim to be a sadist every time she introduced herself might have something to do with it.
* NobleDemon: The most triumphant example from the Jaegers (and definitely when compared to Wild Hunt). She's ''horrific'' to her enemies, but she doesn't actively abuse the people of TheEmpire, only fights direct opponents of the Prime Minister, has no issues with her soldiers protecting citizens of the Empire, largely sees her line of work as a job (although one she [[BloodKnight definitely enjoys WAY too much]]), possesses a sense of honor and respect to people worth her time, and genuinely cares for her subordinates - even when they disappoint or annoy her. While none of her actions are excusable, she's definitely one of the comparatively nicer villains in the series.
* NotGoodWithRejection: Yes and no. She's ''very'' driven to getting Tatsumi under her wing, but he keeps saying no. Eventually, she gives up when she realizes that he will never change his answer, [[spoiler:and begrudgingly decides to have him put up for execution while planning to wound him bad enough to make others think he's dead, take him away, and presumably heal him up and continue her attempts to win him over.]]
* OneWomanArmy: As Najenda herself estimated, she is worth ''no less'' than ten Teigu users and 50,000 soldiers.
* PantyShot: Zigzagged. Every now and then, we see brief black bars from underneath her skirt, which we assume to be her undergarments. However, in episode 19, when there's a clear shot of her crotch, there's a silhouette covering her panties. It's a fairly awkward form of censorship.
* PetTheDog: Surprisingly often. Among other such occasions, she comforts Seryu when she is devastated over Stylish's death (even [[WhenSheSmiles smiles sweetly]] when Seryu falls asleep in her arms), she shows a much softer side to her subordinates, she prefers to see Susano'o as a warrior and not simply as a Teigu, she personally nurtured Tatsumi when they were stranded on the island, she keeps the actual families of her soldiers under protection, she doesn't treat Bols any differently after taking off his mask (and even smiles after seeing it firsthand), she's incredibly protective of her subordinates (even when it ''goes against'' her SocialDarwinist creed), and orders her soldiers to protect the fleeing civilians at a botched PublicExecution.
* PowerBornOfMadness: She gained her Teigu by drinking the blood of a particularly demonic Danger Beast. It littered her mind with destructive, murderous thoughts, that she was able to control due to Esdeath herself being destructive and murderous (although she mentions that the demon blood has since been tamed).
* PowerTattoo: That marking on her chest, just above her cleavage, is her Teigu, and the reason she's AnIcePerson.
* PsychoForHire: She's a sadist through and through (although how much of one would she have been is up for debate) - perfect for the position of General in TheEmpire's military.
* RapunzelHair: Par course for the series.
* RedBaron: The Empire's Strongest.
* RoyalRapier: Her weapon of choice.
* {{Sadist}}: One of her most defining characteristics, as it's heavily implied that she's a sadist by nature.
* SexyShirtSwitch: She dons a plain white shirt, complete with AbsoluteCleavage and ShesGotLegs, when she gets Tatsumi to her room after a shower.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: She has no qualms about showing off her body in front of Tatsumi whatsoever.
* SingleTargetSexuality: She's Tatsumisexual.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: She's primarily searching for her OneTrueLove... which just happens to be [[NiceGuy Tatsumi]]. In general, she seems to have a natural liking towards good men. Other than Tatsumi, she holds a ton of respect for [[MyCountryRightOrWrong General Budo]], she prefers to see Susano'o as a man instead of a tool, she personally broke Liver out of prison, and she lets a small smile as well as a very tiny blush upon removing Bols' mask and persuading him to overcome his shyness. Tatsumi fits all of the traits she wants in a man, though.
* SmittenTeenageGirl: Not a teenager, but she definitely acts like this around Tatsumi.
* SocialDarwinist: An extreme example, she believes it only natural for the weak to die. Indeed, she even states she cannot understand "the feelings of the weak." It's to the point that when Tatsumi tries to reason with her and get her to use her influence to help eliminate some of the corruption within, appealing to the fact that she loves him with a scenario of a girl who's kept from her love by the large social gaps and corruption, she coldly states that she doesn't understand such things. This mindset is why Tatsumi keeps rejecting her advances.
* SuperpowerLottery: Being gifted with the [[AnIcePerson Demon's Extract]] automatically wins her this, allowing her to create ''gigantic'' blocks of ice out of thin air with little effort and instantaneously freeze anything within seconds. If that's not enough she has OneHitKill blows, she's fast enough FlashStep around her opponents, and has an impeccable [[SpiderSense sixth sense]]. If all that fails she can [[spoiler: ''[[TimeStandsStill briefly freeze space and time once a day]]'']].
* TogetherInDeath: [[spoiler:In the anime, after being mortally wounded by Akame, Esdeath freezes herself along Tatsumi's corpse before shattering both into pieces.]]
* TortureTechnician: Esdeath ''loves'' to torture people and her hobby seems to be finding new ways to make them suffer. The capital has a industrial scale torture chamber that she takes direct charge of whenever she's around; at one point upon seeing a vat full of people boiling alive, she demanded the water temperature be lowered simply to make them suffer longer.
* VillainessesWantHeroes: A fairly major part of her role in the plot is her love for Tatsumi.
* VillainousCrush: On Tatsumi, who managed to fit all her criteria for a lover plus the extra one (A pure and innocent smiling face would be nice). It seems to be genuine LoveAtFirstSight for her, as she only becomes softer and kinder when she's around him and is pretty determined in her efforts to get him to fall in love with her (even asking Bols for advice) despite the fact he stated he was going to join the revolutionary army.
* VillainRespect: After seeing [[spoiler:Susanoo]] perform a HeroicSacrifice, Esdeath is so impressed that she vows to remember him, not as a Teigu, but as a warrior. It's one of her more poignant PetTheDog moments.
* WeCanRuleTogether: She constantly tries to convince Tatsumi to join the Empire and become her subordinate, but he always refuses. She eventually gives up and decides that if Tatsumi won't join her, she will have to kill him herself - [[NotSoDifferent similar to how Tatsumi himself declared that if he can't convince her, then he will have to kill her as well]].
* WomanInWhite: In contrast to all the red she spills, Esdeath's outfit is white as snow. In addition, her skin is practically porcelain.
* {{Yandere}}: One of the rarer cases in that she never attempts to MurderTheHypotenuse. Instead, her psychotic nature generally comes from outside her interactions with Tatsumi, until he [[spoiler:tells her he has a girlfriend now and refuses to join her one last time]]. She still loves Tatsumi, but would rather have him executed as opposed to letting anyone else take him. [[spoiler:Though the execution was something she wasn't really planning on carrying out...]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Her hair is light blue.
* ZettaiRyouiki: ThighHighBoots variety.

!!!Teigu: Demon's Extract
* BloodMagic: The Demon's Extract is the blood of a Danger Beast that could control ice.
* FateWorseThanDeath: Those who consume it and are not compatible are DrivenToMadness, a fate all those before Esdeath have suffered
* HearingVoices: Drinking it will cause a person to hear voices commanding them to commit all kinds of heinous actions. Esdeath was too powerful and claims the voices have been tamed.
* KillItWithIce: Allows Esdeath to do this whenever she likes thanks to the Demon's Extract being able to infinitely produce ice from nothing.
* PsychoSerum: Takes the form of a ominous purple liquid that is consumed to gain its powers. Those who are not compatible are driven insane.
* SwissArmySuperpower: Because she can create ice without limitation, her powers can be used for all sorts of tasks. She can use ice to create bridges, give her a vantage spot, restrain or kill individuals, etc.

!! Wave
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wave_tropes_6155.jpg]]

--> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/YoshimasaHosoya

A former member of the Imperial Navy recruited by Esdeath as a member of the Jaegars. Wave is a simple man of common upbringing and is initially naive of the corruption of the Empire. Harboring strong convictions of honor and duty, Wave works tirelessly to make the Empire a better place for all.

His Teigu is Carnage Incarnate: Grand Chariot, a counterpart to the Incursio armor, but considered the superior model.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Wave

* AntiVillain: He doesn't really like the state the empire's in and is very well aware of the immense corruption of the nobles and of the [[PsychoForHire more psychotic members]] of his group but he embraces his role as an enforcer due to a debt from an unseen savior back in the navy.
* ButtMonkey: He tends to get the short end of the stick at times, from his punishment by Esdeath for allowing Tatsumi to escape to constantly being ejected off the battlefield by the Night Raid.
* CountryMouse: He is transferred to the capital via Esdeath's request for him. He tries his best not to look like a country bumpkin, but unfortunately he's still seen as one by many of the citizens there.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass:
** [[ButtMonkey When given the opportunity,]] Wave has demonstrated that he can [[CurbStompBattle curb stomp]] an [[spoiler: Incursio clad Tatsumi]] and overpower Akame, Mine, and Lubbock ''simultaneously''.
** In addition to this, he can [[spoiler:fight [[BareFistedMonk Syura]] in hand to hand combat, barring Teigu, and successfully defeat him. Bearing in mind that Syura is a much more established martial artist.]]
* DeusExitMachina: When Night Raid went after Kurome the first thing they do is send Wave flying off a la [[Anime/{{Pokemon}} Team Rocket]]. Fights against Imperial Arms users are tough enough and Wave is one of the stronger members of the Jaegers. Probably #3.
* EvilCounterpart: A subversion for Tatsumi. The Jaegers are antagonists but he is a Type IV AntiVillain, their characters and Teigus are pretty much the same.
* FailureHero: From little things like cheering up his teammates to actually protecting them, Wave finds repeatedly that he is incapable of either.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: His joining of the Jaegers and subsequent adventures with them, run parallel to Tatsumi's own.
* HypocriticalHumor: He laments the way most people react with fear or disgust to Bols due to the mask he wears along with his large size, despite usually trying to help them. Wave is then immediately reminded by the other Jaeger members of his first reaction to Bols when the Jaegers were first forming, and how he freaked out as well.
* ItsAllMyFault: He blames himself for [[spoiler:being knocked out from the Night Raid ambush that resulted in the death of Bols.]]
* LightningBruiser: While in Grand Chariot, he is powerful enough to overpower three Night Raid members, outrun ''Akame'' and like Incursio is NighInvulnerable.
* NaiveNewcomer: In comparison to the other members of Jaegars.
* NiceGuy: Actively believes his job will change the corrupt crime rampant within the empire and is always seen getting along with fellow members of the Jaegars, [[ShipTease especially]] [[DefrostingIceQueen Kurome]].
* NotSoDifferent: When talking to Tatsumi in episode 10, both of them learn they have issues with their respective teammates. Were they not on opposing sides, they likely would have been good friends and allies.
* ObliviousToLove: Not surprisingly, considering how he's a clear mirror of Tatsumi; he doesn't seem to realize how increasingly, Kurome's feelings for him aren't just those of friendship and camaraderie.
* OnlySaneMan: In the [[PsychoForHire Jaegars]].
* RageBreakingPoint: While Wave could put up with the Jaegars at first; when he sees Wild Hunt's actions, he completely loses it.
* SkilledButNaive: Esdeath makes it a point to inform Wave that his strength is perfect; but how he lacks mental fortitude, and thus as a result can be easily deceived or misled.
* ThisIsUnforgivable: When he witnesses Wild Hunt's actions; most notably their [[spoiler:rape and murder of Bols' wife and daughter '''on his own grave''', and Syura's attempted assault on Kurome, which brings him to a RageBreakingPoint.]]
* TokenGoodTeammate: The only person in the Jaegars that has absolutely no irredeemable qualities whatsoever. He’s never even seen killing a person, civilian or criminal, at all.
* WhatTheHellHero: He calls out Kurome [[spoiler:for continuously making use of Run's deceased body as one of her corpse puppets. He also calls her on casually assuming that the EmptyShell of their deceased friend is enough to substitute the fact that he's no longer alive.]]

!!! Teigu: Grand Chariot

* BadassCape: It even ''[[AntiGravityClothing floats]]''.
* CoolMask: The armor comes with a helmet with a mask.
* DarkIsNotEvil: It's all black armor, but don't forget that Wave is actually one of the most merciful members of the entire cast.
* {{Flight}}: Grand Chariot trades the InvisibilityCloak of Incursio for the usage of being able to fly for short amounts of time.
* ImpossiblyCoolClothes: Encompassing the wearer's back is a shield that floats without any support.
* InstantArmor: He can summon it at any time.
* PowerArmor: Grand Chariot was also made from the flesh of Tyrant after Incursio and Wave confidently states that because of this fact Grand Chariot is superior to its predecessor.
* NighInvulnerability: A given fact considering it was made from the same Danger Beast as Incursio, but it also proves rather effective at blocking attacks from Akame's [[OneHitKill Murasame]].
* SuperStrength: Grand Chariot is capable of cracking the defenses of Incursio with ''one kick'', a Teigu known for [[NighInvulnerability nigh invulnerable armor]].

!! Bols
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/781c4a83b81b7bb0ad9da1fd74465d2a.jpg]]

-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/EijiTakemoto

An intimidating, masked member of the Empire's Incineration Squad. Before joining the Jaegars, Bols's duty was to wipe out whole villages, burning troublesome buildings and populations to the ground in the name of the Empire. When not on duty, Bols is a compassionate family man with a loving wife and daughter he adores.

His Teigu is Purgatory's Invitation: Rubicante, a powerful flamethrower.
----

!!! Tropes associated with Bols

* AlasPoorVillain: After a long battle against the Night Raid he is ultimately dispatched by [[spoiler:Chelsea, who takes the form of a little girl who was once a citizen of a village Bols burned to ashes. He dies crawling to the memory of his wife and child.]]
-->'''Bols''': [[FamousLastWords I have to return home... Because they are both waiting... I have to return...]]
* AntiVillain: Firmly believes karma will catch up to him for his actions. He still does his job for the sake of his wife and child.
* BeingEvilSucks: He is well aware that his actions are terrible and has a horrible self-image as a result. Even so, he does his job to put food on the table.
* TheFaceless: We never see his face. The anime does not directly show his face, but closeups and a shot from behind show that he is blond and blue-eyed.
* FaceOfAThug: Between the scary mask, massive body and grizzly scars, people are surprised to find Bols is actually a really sweet guy.
* FireBreathingWeapon: His Teigu, Purgatory's Invitation: Rubicante, is a flamethrower can expel flames so hot [[{{Hellfire}} even water can’t extinguish it]].
* FreakyFashionMildMind: Despite wearing a creepy mask that freaks out nearly anyone he meets, Bols is actually a really nice guy and one of the most sympathetic villains in the series.
* FriendToAllChildren: In addition to having a child of his own, he goes out of his way to care for a lost and injured girl.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: He has a scar across his chest that looks like claw marks. They signify he is a tough guy who apparently has tangled with dangerous creatures in the past and survived.
* HappilyMarried: He has a wife and a daughter who love him as much as he loves them (i.e. very deeply). To the shock of everyone else in the group.
* NiceGuy: If it wasn't for his [[PunchClockVillain occupation]] Bols would be the nicest character in the series.
* PlayingWithFire: As part of the Incineration Squad.
* PunchClockVillain: Despite having a job that entails burning down entire cities, innocents included, he still views it as a job.
* ShoutOut: Big muscular guy carrying a {{BFG}} attached to a huge barrel backpack? Are we talking about [[MetalGearSolid Vulcan Raven]]?
* ShrinkingViolet: The first time Wave meets him, Bols is so nervous that he just stares silently at him until several other Jaegars show up.
* SuperStrength: He can beat Danger Beasts into submission with his bare hands.
* SupremeChef: He is noted by Wave to be an excellent chef, often making the meals eaten by the Jaegars.
* TakingYouWithMe: When he has his back to a corner he triggers a massive explosion in a last ditch attempt to kill Night Raid. Subverted in that Bols and even his targets survive.
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: He takes down some Danger Beasts with lariats and suplexes.

!!!Teigu: Rubicante
* {{Fireballs}}: Aside from functioning as a standard flamethrower, Rubicante can also fire highly-concentrated fireballs as a long-range attack.
* KillItWithFire: Can spew seemingly endless flames that burn hotter than normal flames and cannot be extinguished by water. These flames have reduced many villages and people to nothing.
* SelfDestructMechanism: Rubicante's tank can be detonated via a button switch, causing a massive explosion. This of course will destroy Rubicante, and should only be used when absolutely desperate.

!! Dr. Stylish
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stylish_tropes_8579.jpg]]

--> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/KenNarita

A brilliant doctor and scientist of the Empire scouted by Esdeath to join the Jaegars. Though unparalleled in his practice, Dr. Stylish is a man of questionable morals, taking great pleasure in experimenting on living beings, especially humans.

His Teigu is Glorious Hands of God: Perfector, a pair of gloves that multiply Stylish's hand dexterity many times over, allowing him to heal nearly any wound short of death.
----

!!! Tropes associated with Dr. Stylish

* AgentPeacock: The best scientist in the Empire, who is also a vain, campy pretty boy.
* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: When he injects himself with something in episode 11, he grows monstrously huge.
* CampGay: He blatantly hits on his fellow male Jaegars, except [[HappilyMarried Bols]], and even offers his transformed human experiments a “night alone” with him if they manage to kill any Night Raid.
* CatchPhrase: "Stylish."
* CombatMedic: He can deal a healthy dose of asskicking with his minion army while also repairing (and upgrading) any of his allies with his Teigu, Perfector, saving them from anything less than death.
* CombatTentacles: Syringe tipped tentacles.
* EvilIsHammy: The way he talks and moves tends to be extremely melodramatic.
* TheFightingNarcissist: He openly flaunts his good looks and "style." Even in his OneWingedAngel form he calls himself the ultimate in stylishness.
* FlunkyBoss: When he attacks the Night Raid hideout he send his entire minion army to attack them while he stands back and watches the outcome of the battle.
* FullFrontalAssault: After using a serum on himself that made him grow to Danger Beast size, his clothes were torn to shreds.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: He gave an antidote to his minions so that they would be immune to his poison weapon, making his subordinates praise him for caring. He then reveals he rigged those same minions with bombs to use against Night Raid, showing that he doesn't actually have any respect or care for them.
* LabCoatOfScienceAndMedicine: Never leaves his experiment dungeon without it!
* MadScientist: Loves to experiment on humans and seeks to create weapons more powerful than Teigus.
* {{Megane}}: To really play up his "doctor" look.
* MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate: Specializing in human experimentation.
* OneWingedAngel: After his army is destroyed and realizes Night Raid is coming for his head, Stylish [[spoiler:[[PlayingWithSyringes injects himself with a syringe]] transforming himself into a giant monster.]]
* PetTheDog: For all his immoralities, he was genuinely kind to Seryu.
* ScarilyCompetentTracker: He has three specially modified minions who have enhanced [[SuperSenses hearing, scent and vision]] to help him track down Tatsumi.
* SquishyWizard: He has an army of human experiments at his disposal that each have a variety of different upgrades and enhancements but stays back because he himself lacks any kind of offensive ability. [[spoiler: At least before his OneWingedAngel.]]
* SkunkStripe: He has a streak of white through his black hair. After assuming his OneWingedAngel form, the rest of his hair turns white.
* WeHaveReserves: Zigzagged. He initially doesn't seem concerned with the death of a few of his footsoldiers, due to having a large pool of them available via criminals in prison. However, he later uses a drug to knock out the Night Raid members other than Tatsumi, who isn't affected by it due to his Imperial Arms, and comments that the huge loss of men forced his hand. And when he transforms, he eats the minions who were with him until he was directly attacked.

!!!Teigu: Perfector
* TrickedOutGloves: Perfector allows Stylish to basically do what he does best, but even better. He can perform surgery and experiment faster than humanly possible.

!! Kurome
[[quoteright:201:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kurome_tropes_5383.jpg]]

-->'''Voiced by:''' Ayaka Ohashi

Akame's younger sister recruited by Esdeath to form the Jaegars. Like her sister, Kurome is a skilled assassin, forcibly trained since childhood by the Empire to kill effectively and without remorse. She holds a grudge against Akame for abandoning her and their former assassin squad in favor of joining Night Raid.

Her Teigu is March of the Dead: Yatsufusa, a katana that has the power to convert those it kills into undead puppets for Kurome to command.
----

!!! Tropes associated with Kurome

* {{Badass}}: She’s easily the second strongest Jaegar after [[WorldsStrongestMan General Esdeath]], capable on taking on the ''entire'' Night Raid with her [[{{Necromancer}} Yatsufusa]] and almost winning. She’s also the only person that can clash swords with [[OneHitKill Akame]] and come out unscathed with no allies or supernatural assistance.
* BadassAdorable: Her allies and enemies alike take note of how cute she is until she cuts a group of soldiers to pieces in a single motion.
* BadassBoast
-->It seems if you want to kill me... You’ll have to do something like squash my heart or separate my head from my body.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: The very fact that both Run and Wave treated her with kindness is one of the main reasons why Kurome is emotionally attached to both Run and Wave. [[spoiler:[[SubvertedTrope This actually plays a role in Run turning into Kurome's corpse puppets]].]]
* BigEater: She eats cookies like [[UpToEleven Akame eats meat]].
* CainAndAbel: Cain to Akame's Abel, mainly because she betrayed her and the Empire.
* CharacterDevelopment: She's initially introduced as the ruthless [[CuteAndPsycho psychopathic]] assassin who's main goal in life was being her older sister's [[TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou sole murderer]]. Eventually through her interactions within the [[TrueCompanions Jaegars]] and Wave's kindness she begins to show a [[WhenSheSmiles kinder and sweeter side]] behind closed doors. This change is lampshaded by Run, when she encounters Akame for the third time, announcing her intent to take her down for the sake of ''the people'', and not her deep-seated grudge towards her. [[spoiler:This is unfortunately [[AvertedTrope averted]], as when Run is slowly dying from his wounds obtained in their battle against Wild Hunt, she unexpectedly decides that instead of letting Run [[PeacefulInDeath die peacefully]], she'll instead MercyKill him and force him to continue living as one of her corpse puppets.]]
* CuteAndPsycho: Emphasis on the psycho part.
* CuteIsEvil: As cute as she appears, one must not forget that she's one of the most sociopathic and psychopathic members of the Jaegers.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: She and Akame were abandoned by their parents after being sold to the Empire to be child soldiers. However, [[TrainingFromHell unlike Akame]], Kurome was instead subjugated to rigorous experimentation and [[SuperSerum numerous drug enhancements]] in the Empire's quest to create a new SuperSoldier.
* DarkActionGirl: Being the darker equivalent to Akame while being just as {{Badass}}.
* DefrostingIceQueen: She eventually opens up to Wave and confesses her fears to him and later when tending to Wave's wounds from [[spoiler:his fight with Syura]], she makes little effort to hide her care and affection for Wave.
* DissonantSerenity: She often goes into this state, particularly following her attempt to act like everything is fine with Wave after she [[spoiler:reanimates Run.]]
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Her first onscreen appearance shows her sitting atop a mountain of corpses humming a melody to herself.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: She can't understand why Wave is upset [[spoiler:over her usage of Run as her newest corpse puppet. She also can't understand why he isn't happy about her ability to keep his body in existence to prevent the total loss of their friend and his disgust when she attempts to summon him to spend time together with them like back when he was alive.]]
* EvilCounterpart: Of Akame. Besides being sisters, she and Akame are extremely similar in alot of ways, from general looks to clothing choices, they both wield sword Teigus and they're both master swordswomen. The main difference is that Akame is still a good person at heart who got fed up with the Empire's corruption and became a rebel, while Kurome's [[PsychoSerum "training"]] appears to have made a real number on her psyche and now she doesn't have any problem with working for such a corrupt empire.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: The anime toned down a lot of her yandere personality and instead portrays her more as this, although {{deconstructed}}. [[spoiler: The reason Kurome wants [[TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou to kill Akame alone]] is because deep down inside, she deeply loves her sister. However, because both Kurome and Akame has taken different paths in their lives, they are forced to kill each other. This is apparently true in episode 22 where Kurome and Akame met each other for the last time where Kurome shared her Pocky sticks with Akame and a brief chat with each other (and even slept together). Akame also reveals that she wanted to kill Kurome because she too, loves her sister, and they decided to have their last duel to the death. In the end, Kurome lost the duel and dies to Akame's blade (in addition the poison from Chelsea that Kurome suffered earlier), which Kurome's death has caused Akame to [[TenderTears break down in tears]] [[TearJerker because she feels Kurome's unconditional love to her and how much Akame loved her younger sister]]]].
* GameBreakingInjury: A rare villainous variant. After surviving an assassination attempt by [[spoiler:Chelsea]], Kurome has been visibly more tired and weaker in combat. A notable example is when she fought the entire Night Raid she was able to summon and control eight corpse puppets and still have the strength to fend off [[MasterSwordswoman Akame]] simultaneously while largely keeping the pace of the battle. After the failed assassination she can barely summon two puppets, [[spoiler:and is suffering from a potentially IncurableCoughOfDeath; thus ''losing'' a subsequent battle of speed against Akame, resulting in the death of Bolic.]]
* HeroKiller: She's the one who ultimately kills [[spoiler:Chelsea]].
* HiddenDepths: She confides to Wave that she’s afraid of being seen as weak because back in the Assassination Squad [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness those who are deemed weak are disposed of]].
* IfICantHaveYou: Kurome resorts to trying to kill Akame for choosing Night Raid over her.
%%* ILoveTheDead
* LaughingMad: She giggles creepily anytime she fights Akame.
* MasterSwordswoman: When you can fight off another MasterSwordsman that's wielding a OneHitKill katana [[{{Badass}} you're more than qualified]].
* MeaningfulName: "Kurome" literally means "[[BlackEyesOfCrazy black eyes]]".
* MercyKill: She delivers this to an unsuspecting [[spoiler:dying Run, in an effort to keep him "alive", ultimately enslaving and reanimating him with her Yatsuhusa into one of her newest corpse puppets.]]
* MundaneUtility: A rather darkly comedic version of this. [[spoiler:Basically, after she reanimates a dying Run into one of her corpse puppets with Yatsuhusa, she then suggests using it to summon him to spend time together with them as they did back when he was alive. For example, like when it's time to eat cake.]]
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: She is very adamant about being the only person who may deliver her sister's death by her own hands. Needless to say, the feeling is mutual.
* PsychoForHire: She was trained as an assassin just like Akame. Unlike Akame she completely buys into the MoreThanMindControl that was fed to her.
* PsychoSerum: It’s later revealed the [[spoiler:“cookies”]] Kurome always consumes is actually a new type of drug developed by the Empire to forcibly enhance their soldiers and [[spoiler:[[HorrorHunger she’s become addicted to them.]]]]
* RescueRomance: They had some ShipTease before the fact, but she begins to openly show her feelings for Wave after he saves her from [[spoiler:getting raped by Syura]].
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: While she was already going to kill [[spoiler:Chelsea]] in self-defense, the realization that [[spoiler:Chelsea killed Bols]] makes Kurome visibly enraged, leading to [[spoiler:Chelsea]]'s FamilyUnfriendlyDeath.
%%* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan
* SuperReflexes: Fast enough to dodge a sniper rifle shot from ''miles away''.
* SweetTooth: She has a giant bag of cookies that she carries around wherever goes just to snack upon.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: She and her sister look nearly identical except for the hairstyle and eye color.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: In her backstory presented both in the original manga and in Zero. She was shocked with the deaths of other children in the forest test and felt ill after being forced to kill a prisoner. Contrast with what she is now.
* {{Yandere}}: Her idea of loving someone is turning them into one of her corpse puppets.

!!! Teigu: Yatsufusa

* EliteMooks: Especially [[TheDragon Natala]] and [[BossInMooksClothing Destaghoul]].
** Destaghoul: An [[{{Kaiju}} Ultra Class Danger Beast]] that's nothing but [[DemBones an old skeleton given life]] but still wields [[TheDreaded the terrifying power]] it wielded in its previous life and is capable of firing a massive BreathWeapon that's powerful enough to ''alter the terrain''.
** General Rokgough: A previous general of the Empire that was [[DoubleAgent exposed trying to betray the Empire and join the Revolutionary Army]]. Wields a [[WhipItGood whip]] so masterfully that even Leone's SuperSenses can't keep up with its movements. Despite this, he was just a [[BadassNormal normal human]] in life.
** Hentarr: A [[LastOfHisKind survivor of the Ban Tribes]] and a target even Kurome [[WakeUpCallBoss admits to having difficulty in obtaining]]. [[LivingShadow Able to move through shadows]] and strike opponents in vital areas [[FragileSpeedster while dodging blows and retreating to the shadows.]] [[DualBoss Works in conjunction with Apeman for a devastating combo.]]
** Apeman: A Danger Beast that is noted to be a favorite for Kurome since he is [[DumbMuscle easy to use]]. Uses his new found undead body to NoSell attacks and [[LightningBruiser deliver fast and powerful blows]]. [[DualBoss Works in conjunction with Hentarr]].
** Woll: A famous guardsman that happened to be killed by Kurome when he was protecting a target of hers. Uses [[TakingTheBullet his own body]] to take blows for teammates when opponents get around his [[LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe giant riot shield]].
** Doya: A {{Gunslinger}} assassin sent from the Northern tribes [[PerpetualSmiler that wears a constant smirk on her face.]] She is very quick and fights using GunsAkimbo.
** Natala: Kurome and Akame's childhood friend that died sometime before the story began. He guards Kurome during Yatsufusa's activation since [[AttackItsWeakPoint Kurome is busy manipulating several other puppets]] simultaneously. Kurome quite confident in his abilities, stating he's ''10 times'' stronger than [[TheBrute Apeman]]. He fights using an extending BladeOnAStick.
** Kaiser Frog: A recent edition to Kurome’s collection. [[FrogsAndToads A giant frog]] that uses its long tongue to drag prey into its highly acidic stomach.
* {{Necromancer}}: Those killed by Yatsufusa are enslaved and can be reanimated by the user whenever they enter combat.
* RedBaron: March of the Dead: Yatsufusa.
* TheUndead: What will happen to those who are killed by Yatsufusa. All skills and abilities the victim had in life are retained, but they are under Kurome's complete control. They are left as little more than flesh and blood puppets.

!! Seryu Ubiquitous
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/serieux_tropes_9717.jpg]]
--> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/KanaHanazawa

A young Imperial Guards soldier recruited by Esdeath as a member of the Jaegars. The impressionable Seryu was personally trained by Imperial Guard Captain Ogre and holds an overwhelming sense of loyalty to justice. Upholding the law and punishing "criminals" without mercy, Seryu makes it her mission to rid the Empire of villainous forces.

Her Teigu is a biological type in the form of Magical Beast Transformation: Hekatonkheires, aka "Koro," who resembles a small dog but possesses a limitless stomach and a voracious appetite.

To top it off, the chapter in which she dies ends with the kids she'd made a habit of playing soccer with coming to the field where they'd hang out only to wonder why she's not there.]]
* AllCrimesAreEqual: Kills a bunch of petty thieves based on this philosophy.
* AnArmAndALeg: After she trips during a fight with Sheele, she loses grip of one of her tonfas. As Sheele moves in with an attack, Seryu puts her arms out in front to protect her body, though she loses both of her arms in the process.
* AntiVillain: She actually fights for the safety of the common people. The only problem is that she blindly follows the Empire to the point where she is reduced to a weapon.
* ArtificialLimbs: After [[AnArmAndALeg losing both of her arms]] to Sheele.
* AxCrazy: Very much so. When fighting she's constantly got a SlasherSmile on her face and half of her dialogue, both in and out of combat, relates to murdering evildoers.
* {{BFG}}[=/=]MacrossMissileMassacre: #2, #6 and #8, with #2 serving as four missiles that [[MoreDakka split and turn into an even larger volley of missiles]].

* BlackAndWhiteInsanity: You are with the Empire? You're good, no matter how corrupt or heinous you are. You are against it in any way? You're evil and must be killed, no matter what the circumstances were.
* BodyHorror: She willingly undergoes a painful experiment by Captain Ogre's persuasion to have [[spoiler:machine guns surgically implanted into her arms. This is taken a step further when she can sprout a gun ''from her throat''.]]
* BossInMookClothing: During her time in the Imperial Guard Forces.
* CoolBigSis: She tries to become this for Tatsumi when told that he'll be joining their group, patting him on the head and saying that he's amongst good people. It takes the danger of being found out to keep Tatsumi from cursing her out.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: She's normally a carefree GenkiGirl, but when it comes to fighting she's deadly and ruthless.
* CryCute: She cries many times for her fallen friends and loved ones, showing that while she is merciless towards "villains," she isn't a monster.
* CuteAndPsycho: Very cute girl on the outside with ''very'' twisted conception of right and wrong.
* DarkActionGirl: She's vicious and brutal when she's out to "eradicate evil", always with a crazy SlasherSmile in her face.

* EpicFlail: #1: Shinkou's Ball of Justice.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Even she felt that [[HidingBehindReligion Borick]] was a pig not worth the Jaegars' protection.

* HiddenWeapons: She has the barrel of a gun hidden ''in her mouth''.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: She believes that [[DirtyCop Captain Ogre]] and [[MadScientist Dr. Stylish]] were genuinely good people.
* InsaneTrollLogic: Helped a group of bandits because you were forced to? Just as guilty as they were in Seryu's eyes.
* KnightOfCerebus: Her battle against Mine and Sheele is the first reminder in the story that the Night Raid isn't invincible and even the [[AnyoneCanDie good guys can die]].
* KnightTemplar: A very dark kind. For Seryu, all those who break the law or oppose the Empire are deserving of death.
* JusticeWillPrevail: Her philosophy. If only she knew what kind of people Night Raid assassinated and her "saviors" truly were...
* LetsGetDangerous: Sweet and bubbly normally, but when she is "administering justice," a sadistic and cruel personality takes over.
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: She gets ''both'' her arms cut off and all she does is hysterically giggle over the fact that she [[EatenAlive defeated]] the evil villain. It's quite unnerving.
* MoralMyopia: Completely fails to recognize the flagrant evil in her mentors (and herself) while spouting on about bringing justice to evildoers.
* MultiMeleeMaster[=/=]MultiRangedMaster: Her personal armory held within [[HyperspaceArsenal Koro]], Judgement of the Ten Heavenly Kings, created by [[GadgeteerGenius Dr. Stylish]] that serve as extra modifications to her body that she can wield in the midst of battle.
* RapunzelHair: In her introduction, she wore her hair in a long ponytail that almost reached the ground, but it was shortened to shoulder-length after becoming a Jaegar.
* RedHerringShirt: Before being formally introduced in Episode 5 of the anime, she can be spotted briefly in Episode 2 as a member of Ogre's entourage.
* {{Revenge}}: Her initial motivation is the fact that Night Raid murdered her master, Captain Ogre.
* SanitySlippage: She's becoming more derailed as the series goes on, even killing a woman for assisting a group of bandits despite having been forced to do so against her will.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: Her outfit after joining the Jaegers features a scarf.
* SlasherSmile: When she gets into battle expect '''a lot''' of these.
* SmitingEvilFeelsGood: Nothing brings her greater joy than slaying evil-doers.
* SniperRifle: #7: Taizan's Cannon of Justice.
* ThisIsADrill: #5: Enma's Spear of Justice.
* ThisIsUnforgivable: Considering the fact that Night Raid was responsible for General Ogre's death, the fact that she says this to Night Raid after reminiscing of her training with him following her helping Tatsumi earlier is understandable. Later on, she even says this to Mine and Sheele before their fight because she blames them both for the deaths of both her father and Ogre himself, even though she has no idea that Tatsumi was the one who killed Ogre himself.
-->'''Seryu''': (to Mine and Sheele) My father died in the line of duty fighting villains like you! And you killed my mentor, General Ogre! I will never forgive you!
* ZettaiRyouiki: Grade A.

!!! Teigu: Hekatonkheires aka "Koro"
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/koro_tropes_3980.jpg]]

* BigEater: It finishes off opponents by eating them. No matter how many it devours, it never seems to get its fill.
* CuteAndPsycho: Looks like a cute and fluffy plush dog but when he gets hungry...
* GrowingMusclesSequence: It can temporarily bulk up the muscle mass within their arms to increase its attack power.
* HealingFactor: Being a biological Teigu grants Hekatonkheires the ability to heal from damage at an extremely fast rate.
* HyperspaceArsenal: Seems to act a portal to Seryu's arsenal by biting her arm off.
* KillerRabbit: Looks like an adorable plushie dog, then it [[MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily opens its mouth]], and it just gets worse from there.
* MakeMeWannaShout: Has a skill where it can emit an intense roar capable of momentarily incapacitating enemies.
* PetTheDog: [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe After getting blown in half]] by Mine's Teigu, [[spoiler:he manages to crawl beside Seryu and [[TogetherInDeath comfort in her last moments.]]]]
* TurnsRed: Can enter a [[TheBerserker berserker mode]] that turns it into a complete LightningBruiser but [[HeroicRROD overheats after a short time]].
* WalkingArmory: Koro's infinite belly houses Seyru's vast arsenal which she can command to equip when necessary.

!! Run
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ran_tropes_942.jpg]]

His Teigu is Limitless Flight: Mastema, which among many other powers, bestows him the power of flight, and gives him an angelic appearance.
----

!!! Tropes associated with Run

* AndIMustScream: [[spoiler:His look of horror as Kurome uses her Yatsufusa to "save" him says it all.]]
* AntiVillain: Like Wave, he's this. It turns out he wants to change the Empire from within following an incident where in his days as a teacher he had the horror of walking into witness the aftermath of his class after they were massacred by [[MonsterClown Champ]] from Wild Hunt.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: With only a few small clues Run accurately figures out that Dr. Stylish found the Night Raid base, assaulted the base with his army to acquire them for experimentation, failed and then got erased for his trouble.
* BadassBookworm: He is never seen without a book in his hand.
* BigDamnHeroes: Saves Kurome from being killed by a two pronged attack from members of Wild Hunt, [[spoiler:but ultimately sustains heavy injuries [[TakingTheBullet shielding her]] from a fiery explosion caused by Champ]].
* {{Bishounen}}: He is a very handsome individual, which he uses to his advantage, in fake relationships with women like his town's mayor and Cosmina.
* TheCharmer: He is fully aware of his good looks and silver tongue and uses them to get on the good side of people.
* ColdBloodedTorture: He makes sure Champ suffers before killing him, even rubbing flowers that cause intense pain into his wounds.
* CoolTeacher: Before joining the Jaegers, Run was a beloved teacher of a small village.
* FateWorseThanDeath: [[spoiler: In the manga, after he is fatally wounded, Kurome uses her Yatsufusa to turn him into a puppet, keeping him "alive."]]
* GoodWingsEvilWings: When Run activates Mastema he sprouts golden angelic wings to move about. [[spoiler:When Run is enslaved and reanimated by [[{{Necromancer}} Yatsufusa]] his wings are dyed jet black, akin to that of a fallen angel.]]
* HairDecorations: [[FeatherMotif Two winged clips]] on both sides of his hair.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: He may be a member of the Jaegars, but he's a actually a really decent guy who wishes to change the empire from within.
* HiddenAgendaVillain: Internally mentions having an ulterior goal to working with the Jaegars: he wants to change the empire from the inside.
* HoneyTrap: This was how he obtained his Teigu. By seducing his town's mayor, he was able to use her favor to work up the ranks of the military and obtain a Teigu.
* InternalReformist: Like Wave, Run believes the Empire needs to change and joined the Jaegers to reform it from within.
* NonchalantDodge: Can dodge a fury of attacks from [[LightningBruiser General Esdeath]] while still reading his book.
* {{Revenge}}: Despite his kind nature, Run seeks vengeance against Champ of Wild Hunt for slaughtering the children of his old village.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: [[spoiler:In the manga, he dies in his fight with Champ, but at the end of the anime he's still alive and will help Wave rebuild the Empire.]]

!!! Teigu: Mastema

* CatchAndReturn: Mastema's trump card, Divine Wings, allows the user to utilize Mastema's wings to deflect enemy projectiles back at them.
* FeatherFlechettes: Mastema has the ability to fire a molt of feathers in lethal volley in a resemblance like weapons from [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Gilgamesh's Gate of Babylon]].
* {{Flight}}: Mastema grants the user the ability to sprout angelic wings and fly.
* PerpetualMolt: The wings sprouted by Mastema constantly molt feathers with every flap.
* RedBaron: Soaring For Thousands of Miles: Mastema.

!! Prime Minister Honest
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/d455784a915ad2755e5e5c5324ad5f6d1405894606_full_767.png]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KoujiIshii

The defacto ruler of the Empire, as the Emperor highly regards Honest's council, even if everyone else around him knows otherwise but stays quiet lest they get removed and killed.
----

!!!The tropes associated with Prime Minister Honest

* BigBad: Technically, he's the root of all the corruption in the Capital but it's his subordinates (particularly Esdeath) that let him stay as comfortable as he is.
* BigBadWannabe: The only reason he's still in charge is because he has Esdeath's support. He will not even consider annoying her in any way, and allows her to do whatever she wants, even if she goes against his authority, because he knows his title, his authority, his reputation, and his ''life'' are all forfeit otherwise.
* BigEater: He’s even seen eating a cake ''whole''.
* DevilInPlainSight: Not to [[HorribleJudgeOfCharacter The Emperor]].
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: He cares for his son Syura, and [[spoiler: loses his shit when he dies... for all of '''one panel'''. After a few seconds of OcularGushers, he abruptly moves on and considers having another child.]] Dorothea is really unnerved by it.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Pities the poor sap that ends up being Esdeath's lover. When Esdeath decides to drink an entire vial of demon blood, Honest ''immediately'' tries to get her to back off since it could've killed her. He makes a toast with her once she proves him wrong by surviving and taming the demon blood.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: [[VisualPun Walks out]] [[ManBehindTheMan from behind]] The Emperor after The Emperor sentenced an innocent man to death casually and then supports said decision while [[VillainousGlutton engorging himself with food]]. When the man tries to convince The Emperor that he’s being manipulated, he puts on a kind face and successfully convinces the latter otherwise. What marks him being a complete and utter bastard is telling the condemned man that he’ll make sure to take care of his wife, ''every single part of her''.
* EvilChancellor: Evil Prime Minister to be exact. He plays the trope straight by having the most influential power in the entire empire, [[TheManBehindTheMan influencing the decisions]] of TheEmperor, and being his most “trusted” advisor.
* FatBastard: His argument is that the [[PostStressOvereating stress he gets from hearing about the actions of the resistance cause him to over indulge himself]].
* IronicName: He is anything but honest.
* ManipulativeBastard: Particularly regarding Makoto, who's little more than a PuppetKing. At one point, he mentions that he intends to drive Makoto into the same depravity as his own by getting him to drink, eat, and fuck non-stop when he gets older, so that even if Honest himself dies, Makoto will more than likely continue the same form of corruption as an adult. Esdeath, for her part, cryptically tells Honest not to allow Makoto to contract "adult diseases."
* NonActionBigBad: He has yet to face the heroes directly and so far just defers combating Night Raid to Esdeath, Budo and even his son, [[StupidEvil Syura]].
* PoisonousFriend: He is this towards the Emperor. While claiming to be guiding the boy, he proves to be a ManipulativeBastard, and will always try to convince the Emperor that he's doing what's in the best interests of the Empire. And in episode 23 of the anime, even while the Emperor starts wondering if he's going too far, Honest tells him to harden his heart and put down the rebellion for the sake of his people. Never mind that many of them are dying by the Emperor's own hand as a result.
* PragmaticVillainy: He's a ''very'' smart scumbag, most notably when it concerns the Jaegers, war strategies, and the defense of the palace. Everything he does is carefully calculated to keep his rule stable over the capitol.
* VillainousFriendship: His relationship with Esdeath is very professional and business-like, and they're often seen sharing drinks in his dinner table. Of course, Honest knows his rule is over without her support, so he makes sure to stay on Esdeath's good side at all times. They have an implicit deal - as long as he rules, his corruption creates more and more enemies arrayed against the capitol, which Esdeath - being a BloodKnight - would happily put down (although the Jaegers do protect the average folks of the empire when it comes down to it). Honest knows damn-well that a single ''inch'' out of line would result in Esdeath outright murdering him for crossing her, so he allows her to do whatever she pleases and makes sure not to boss her around (limiting his direct orders purely for combat-related purposes). This is best shown regarding Wild Hunt; when his son, Syura, asks him to disband the Jaegers on suspicion of secretly working against them, he counters by pointing out that Esdeath's very existence covers their asses, and refuses to oppose her in any way. When Esdeath humiliates Syura and provides evidence that he needlessly harmed the people of the Empire, Honest is ''forced'' to disband Wild Hunt.
* VillainousGlutton: Most of his appearances have him always consuming large amounts of foods.

!! Emperor Makoto
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8ccbab9cf184bf9424bd5db769f14de7.png]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Yo Taichi

The de jure ruler of the Empire, although everything he does is through the influence of Prime Minister Honest.

----
!!! Tropes associated with The Emperor

* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: In episode 22 of the anime, he is told by various advisors that the Revolutionary Army is marching towards the capitol. On top of that, they have a lot of sympathizers within the city walls, and he's warned that as powerful as Esdeath is, even she likely can't win if a large enough army shows up. He starts to wonder if he wasn't leading the people as well as he thought he was, but Honest once against interjects and claims he has to simply put his foot down every now and then to quell any dissent.
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: Outside of his duties as the emperor, he's really just a cheerful little boy.
* ChildrenAreInnocent: So innocent that he's very easy to manipulate.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: He is shown stoically [[DisproportionateRetribution sentencing an innocent man to death]] for objecting the political affairs of the Empire. He then asks the [[BigBad Prime Minister]] if he did well. [[WhatTheHellHero When called out on being victim of the Prime Minister’s machinations]] by the innocent man he immediately dismisses the man’s words as foolish ramblings.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: [[spoiler:In the final chapter of the anime, after being sentenced to death by The Revolution and before being executed, he accepts his judgment, admits that he was a bad ruler and finally asks Najenda to restore the country in his place.]]
* GoodIsDumb: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] as he is just a child.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Believes the [[ObviouslyEvil Prime Minister]] is his most trusted advisor.
* NiceGuy: Although he's clearly just a fake ruler, he's a kind young boy at heart, at least to to those he believes are good people and are loyal to the empire. He even tries to help Esdeath find her perfect match after Tatsumi gets away, but she respectfully insists that she's fine with finding Tatsumi again.
* PuppetKing: He is merely a tool used to distract the more feeble minded citizens of his court and by extension, the entire empire from the activities of the Prime Minister.
* SanitySlippage: In episode 23 he's starting to lose his marbles. Despite the massive destruction of the capitol, along with countless deaths, Honest keeps telling him that the rebellion must be stopped. He develops a crazy look on his face from time to time as he battles Tatsumi and causing considerable collateral damage.

!! Great General Budo
While he is not the Empire's Strongest, Budo is the commander in chief of the military, although he knows better than to boss Esdeath around. He is a man of immense strength, to the point where Esdeath herself respects him immensely.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Great General Budo

* AntiVillain: Although he was born from a line of generals who served the Empire, he cannot stand the current Prime Minister's very existence. At [[spoiler:Tatsumi's]] PublicExecution, Budo ''publicly'' declares his intention to kill Honest after the revolution is put down, with Esdeath right next to him at that. Esdeath herself smiled softly at his convictions and says she looks forward to fighting him.
* TheDreaded: Nearly as much as Esdeath.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He is sincerely disgusted by Honest's lack of sympathy for his equally-sadistic son Syura's death.
* FourStarBadass:
** Single-handedly stopped Wave's NoHoldsBarredBeatdown on Syura, and he is a fellow Teigu user as well.
** Takes out an ([[WorfHadTheFlu admittedly weakened]]) Incursio-clad Tatsumi clad with a '''single blow''.
* LightningBruiser: Incredibly fast and very strong.
* MyCountryRightOrWrong: Appears to have recognised the Prime Minister as a [[UnderStatement very bad influence]] to the young Emperor but is willing to look the other way until the rebellion is crushed. He knows that while the Prime Minister is using the Emperor as a puppet, FatBastard needs that puppet alive and well.
* PowerFist: His Teigu, ''Adramalech'' is the piston punch variant.
* ShockAndAwe: His ''Adramalech'''s power
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Wild Hunt]]

! Tropes associated with Wild Hunt:

* AdaptedOut: Apart from Syura and Suzuka, none of them appear in the anime.
* AxCrazy: Every single member is a psychopath that has no qualms about murdering people in the worst ways imaginable. Some members even feel compelled to do so.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: Every member of Wild Hunt is known to be equipped with a Teigu Syura found in his travels.
* EvilerThanThou: While the Jaegars weren't formed with the most morally compassionate people in the Empire, Wild Hunt has been introduced as a group hellbent on causing carnage throughout the Empire, excusing their actions as being a Secret Police group under the Prime Minister.
* ForTheEvulz: Syura does have an actual EvilPlan behind all the random murder, rape and torture - lure out the Night Raid by committing enough atrocities to become the most public symbol of the Empire's brutality and thus force their hand. However, besides this expected result he very much enjoys the process itself, and the rest of the Wild Hunt kill the Empire's citizens simply because they can easily get away with it.
* KickTheDog: Every chapter since their introduction Wild Hunt has been '''constantly''' kicking the dog.
* MeaningfulName: Named after TheWildHunt. They have a habit of raping and killing everyone in their way, too.
* PsychoForHire: The people recruited to make up Wild Hunt by Syura, are all definitely this. Enshin, Cosmina and Champ joined to engage in as much depravity within the Empire as possible, while Izou outright admits that he only came along just so to be allowed to kill as many people as he could.
* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: A very notable difference between them and the Jaegars to make them all the more monstrous. Syura, Cosmina, Enshin and Champ are all rapists. Especially [[MonsterClown Champ]], [[PaedoHunt who expresses sadistic glee at having his way with children]].
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: The Wild Hunt tend to throw a lot of weight around in the Empire simply because their leader is the son of the Prime Minister. As such any of their actions, such as rape and murder, can hand waved as [[BlatantLies thorough investigation]].

!! Syura
[[quoteright:222:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/270px-shura_first_appearance_8773.png]]

-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/RyoheiKimura

The son of the Prime Minister and leader of Wild Hunt. Left on a journey to explore the world and retrieve Teigu in other nations, he assembled the members of Wild Hunt.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Syura

* AmbiguouslyBrown: Strangely, he's very tanned compared to his fair-skinned father. Presumably, this is because he's spent the majority of his time away in the Borneo islands south of the Empire, but the Prime Minister also stated his mother is not very respectable and possibly foreign.
* AxCrazy: When he's not conversing with his father you can expect to see him raping some innocent girl and murdering her ForTheEvulz or pounding a fallen foe to death with his bare hands, cackling the whole time.
* BareFistedMonk: In his skirmish with [[spoiler:Wave,]] he demonstrates a vast knowledge of different martial arts he acquired during his travels outside the Empire.
* BerserkButton: Going against him as the son of the Prime Minister or even worst, leading him into being a disappointment in his father's eyes is a one way ticket to him intending to rip you limb from limb.
* DanceBattler: He takes down a group of seasoned martial artists just by using capoeira style kicks.
* {{Expy}}: Of Uday Hussein, minus the EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas trope.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: He has a giant X shaped scar across his face from the bridge of his nose.
* HumiliationConga: Later on, he loses to Wave in a fist fight, [[BerserkButton gets criticized by his dad for it]], then he loses [[spoiler: several members of his unit]], [[BerserkButton gets criticized by his dad for it]], [[spoiler: despite catching two members of Night Raid,]] Esdeath humiliates him by [[spoiler: proving that he was responsible for an incident that endangered the empire and getting what remained of Wild Hunt disbanded]], [[BerserkButton gets criticized by his dad for it]], and finally [[spoiler: gets killed by Lubbock when he pretends to have been broken by his torture.]] [[KickTheSonOfABitch The fans enjoyed those few chapters immensely.]]
** And to top it all off, [[spoiler:after Honest (the father he worked so hard to please) hears about the death of his son, he proceeds to weep for him... for '''one whole page'''. He gets over it in seconds, pretty much stating that he'll "make another son from scratch." Even after death the humiliation continues.]]
* KickTheSonOfABitch: People ''loved'' his HumiliationConga.
* OverlordJr: He's the spoiled son of the [[BigBad Prime Minister]] whose entire goal in life is to become as powerful and ruthless as his father and become competent in his eyes.
* OutGambitted: After [[spoiler: Run kills off a big chunk of his team and he's captured Tatsumi]], Syura is convinced that he's gotten the fodder he needs to have the [[spoiler: Jeagers disbanded.]] Esdeath completely outwits him by [[spoiler: hiding the evidence Run had gathered against Syura in particular, which saves his ass from the law... and then she counters with evidence against the rest of Wild Hunt, which has them disbanded at her request. He refuses the cross her because of the blackmail she still had on him.]]
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: He tends to instill fear in his enemies by stating his relation to the Prime Minister, which causes them to halt their attacks. [[{{Hypocrite}} He then calls them out for being cowards.]] [[spoiler:[[UnstoppableRage Not that this matters to Wave.]]]]
* SmugSnake: Due to his perceived strength and prowess, as well as family connections.
* ThisCannotBe: [[spoiler:When he is about to die by Lubbock's hands he blurts this out. Since he died without taking the throne and surpassing his successful father so that he could change the "boring world" as he called it, this is very understandable.]]
* TortureTechnician. Claims to be this. He later shows how and why [[spoiler:towards poor Lubbock.]]
* VillainousFriendship: Subverted. Although he seems to be great friends with the other members of Wild Hunt, most often when they gleefully indulge in their [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil "activities"]]; [[spoiler:when Champ and Enshin are killed, he states that he doesn't give a toss since they died so easily.]] This claim is then consequently [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] by fellow member Dorothea.
* WellDoneSonGuy: He's determined to prove himself to his father, and is noticeably afraid when his father is angry at him [[spoiler:for being beaten by Wave.]] Basically, humiliating or demeaning him in front of his father is the [[BerserkButton worst way to piss him off.]]
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: His hair is white and he's one of the most evil sons of bitches in the series.

!!! Teigu: Shambhala
* TeleportersAndTransporters: He can teleport himself or others to fixed locations. He used it to send Tatsumi and Esdeath from a mountain range to an island on the other side of the world.

!! Izou

Swordsman who loves to fight.
----
!!! Tropes associated with Izou

* {{Badass}}: Is apparently as strong as the rest of the Wild Hunt put together, and takes down Lubbock with a single strike of his ''sheath''.
** BadassNormal: His katana is stated to be normal (by their world's standard), and not a Teigu.
* BetterThanSex: While the Wild Hunt is [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil "investigating"]] a theatre group suspected of writing plays that harm the image of the Prime Minister, Izou instead prefers to stand outside [[BloodKnight carving any would be escapees to pieces]].
* BloodKnight: He loves to "make blood rain" and "feed" his sword Kousetsu the blood of his kills.
* EyesAlwaysClosed: He keeps his eyes shut unless he's cutting down scores of people, in which he reveals his [[BlackEyesOfCrazy black sclera]].
* FightsLikeANormal: All members of the Wild Hunt have a Teigu, but unlike the rest he has no interest in it and is entirely devoted to Koutetsu.
* HeroKiller: [[spoiler: As Lubbock would testify. Akame later avenges him.]]
* MasterSwordsman: Frequently cuts down groups of Mooks in single slices.
* NumberTwo: To Syura.

!! Cosmina

Cosmina was a singer who was convicted of witchcraft in the Western kingdom. She survived her village's attempt to kill her and was recruited into Wild Hunt for her voice-based abilities.
----

* AllWomenAreLustful: She happily indulges in her sexual activities, which include an entire theatre troupe of men, and shamelessly flirts with Enshin and Run.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: She was persecuted and branded as a witch because her voice has the ability to manipulate people. This such persecution later led to her entire family being killed and their house set on fire. Unfortunately, she survived the fire, but went [[SanitySlippage completely insane]] by the tragedy.
* DumbMuscle: A rare female example. In combat, [[WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer her only action]] is to face enemies and fire her destructive sound waves at them until they die. She thinks ''nothing'' about defensive measures and lets her guard down all to quickly on the battlefield, even when it's obvious that there's still potential enemies that pose a definite threat to her.
** Her "upgrade" by Dorothea turns this aspect up, as she is now a hybrid between a mantis and a tank.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: Her eyes have a [[BishieSparkle sparkle]] sign in her pupils.
* FreudianExcuse: She apparently used to be a sane, decent human being. That all changed when the people of her village, who feared her ability to influence their behavior with her songs, deemed her a witch and burnt her house down with her and her family in it. She was the only one to survive. The event turned her into the monster she is.
* GenkiGirl: She's always seen upbeat and energetic.
* GlassCannon: She has devastatingly destructive attack power she can emit over long distances, but other than that aspect, she lacks defensive ability of any kind.
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: Dorothea can repair her to some degree but turns her into a cyborg monster in the end.
* MadeOfIron: She's been known to mysteriously survive the giant fire that burned her entire house and family to ashes and even survived [[spoiler:a shot from Mine's Pumpkin but keeps a hole from it.]]
* MakeMeWannaShout: Her Teigu, Great Tremor: Heavy Pressure, allows her to transmit long range sound waves, strong enough to shatter the skeletons and implode the brain on any unfortunate target caught in its radius.
* TheNicknamer: Refers to her fellow Wild Hunt members Syura and Champ, as "Shurry" and "Champie", respectively.
* PlayboyBunny: The outfit that she wears from when she is first introduced.
* PsychopathicWomanchild: She has a constant smile on her face even when she's killing, flirts shamelessly with any handsome man in her company, and treats all of her battles as concerts where she's "entertaining" the opponent with her [[MakeMeWannaShout "singing"]].
%%* ReallyGetsAround
* TooDumbToLive: She tries to have her way with a heavily injured Run ''in the middle of a battlefield'' [[spoiler:and [[InTheBack gets shot through the chest]] by Mine for her trouble.]]

!! Dorothea
Alchemist from the Western Kingdom.
----

* ACupAngst: When healing Cosmina with her alchemy; she comments to Syura on how her great bust infuriates her, in a comedic fashion.
* AllWomenAreLustful: Demonstrates this towards [[ChickMagnet Tatsumi]], of course.
* CuteAndPsycho: anyone look at her and she seems the most innocent of Wild Hunt. When in truth she is perharps the most vicious.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: [[spoiler:She seemed pretty shocked of how the Prime Minister reacted to his son's death, considering that he died while trying to prove himself to his father.]]
* MadScientist: she is the Doctor Stylish to Wild Hunt. [[spoiler:She turned one of her colleagues into a enormous monster that grows stronger if it consumes flesh and was capable of surviving [[OneHitKill Akame's sword.]]]]
* TheMedic: She serves as this for the rest of Wild Hunt.
* SupernaturallyDeliciousAndNutritious: In chapter 50, when she's feasting on Tatsumi after he's subdued; she comments on how his blood is incredibly delicious, intense, and rich.
* VampiricDraining: Her Teigu allows her to bite into an unsuspecting victim and reduce them to skeletons in mere seconds.
* VillainousFriendship: [[spoiler:Friendship might be exaggerated but she seemed sad when she told the Prime Minister that Syura died. Towards the other Wild Hunt's members, however, it is subverted since she turned Cosmina into a insectoid beast for her experiments and didn´t seem upset when Izou was killed by Akame.]]

!! Enshin

Pirate from the Southern Islands.
----

* GenreSavvy: Unlike [[DumbMuscle Champ]] and [[ReallyGetsAround Cosmina]], he is not fooled by Run's [[{{NiceGuy}} facade]] about joining Wild Hunt and follows him when he leads Champ to another location, in the event that Run might try to ambush Champ.
* {{Lunacy}}: His Teigu, Moonlight Sword: Shamshir, is a sword that can create [[SwordBeam aerial blades]] which can grow stronger depending on the lunar cycle.
* ProperlyParanoid: Of Run's reasons for ingratiating himself to Wild Hunt, which turn out to indeed be insincere.
* ThisCannotBe: When Akame dodges the attacks from his Shamshir, and [[spoiler:then swiftly kills him with her Murasame.]]

!! Champ

Serial Killer Entertainer.

----
!!! Tropes associated with Champ

* AssholeVictim: His death at the hands of [[spoiler:Run]] was a long, ''long'' time coming.
* BishieSparkle: Whenever he sees a child or gets passionate in speaking about his love for children.
* BlowYouAway: Storm Orb, an orb imbued with the power to unleash an incredibly strong hurricane.
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: When asked by Run if he remembers his massacre of students back in the town of Joyou, he struggles to remember the memory until he thinks about the amount of children he raped and killed.
* ChildrenAreInnocent: In a very twisted aspect, this is the reason why he kills children. [[NotAllowedToGrowUp To prevent them from becoming "filthy adults"]].
-->'''Champ:''' [[InsaneTrollLogic "Adults are worthless. They're all scum! Angels should just stay angels forever."]]
* DumbMuscle: He's strong enough to be recruited as a Teigu wielding member of Wild Hunt yet is easily fooled by Run into following him into some abandoned ruins in an attempt to ambush him and kill him with the promise of having prepared a group of small children just for his pleasure.
* ElementalPowers: His Teigu, Ace Solution: Die Leaguer, is a six orb imbued with an element that activates after being thrown.
* {{Expy}}: Of John Wayne Gacy.
* EyeScream: In his retaliation against him, Run fires a [[FeatherFlechettes feather]] into his eye.
* FatBastard: In terms of evil and girth, he gives the [[BigBad Prime Minister]] a run for his money.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: In the end he is killed when he [[spoiler:throws his Flame Orb at Run, who in turn activates Mastema's Divine Wings, which [[CatchAndReturn deflects]] the orb back at Champ incinerating him into a skeleton.]]
* {{Irony}}: He likens children to angels, which is why he kills them before they become evil and impure as adults, yet [[spoiler:[[DeathByIrony he is killed]] by an opponent whose Teigu likens his image into the form of an actual angel.]]
* KarmicDeath: His death [[spoiler: by Run is this, as he's killed by his own attack by a man with wings, an angel in effect. Ironic as he compares children to angels.]]
* MadeOfIron: Has the courtesy of being hit by a [[FlechetteStorm barrage]] of Mastema's FeatherFlechettes, which can pierce through bone, [[ColdBloodedTorture tortured by Run]], stabbed repeatedly in the torso and still has the strength to find Run and Kurome and attack the pair with his Teigu.
* MightyGlacier: He's very slow but can tank an incredible amount of punishment and his Teigu can deal immense damage in both long and short range combat.
* MonsterClown: Especially monstrous, when one considers his [[PaedoHunt sexual preference]].
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Beats an innocent woman to death simply because she tried to prevent him from having his way with a young child in a theater group.
* NotSoStoic: He drops his [[TheStoic stoic demeanor]] when he happens to spot a cute child. Unfortunately, this is also [[{{Squick}} coupled with arousal]]...
* PlayingWithFire: Flame Orb, an orb imbued with the power to incinerate an enemy to mere bones.
* StuffBlowingUp: Explosion Orb, an orb imbued with the power to induce an immense explosion.

!!Aria

-->'''Voiced by:''' Kanami Satou

A wealthy girl living in a huge mansion within the imperial capital. Aria appears to be kind-hearted and innocent, but in truth, she and her family are actually a group of sadists disguised as {{Good Samaritan}}s who lure unidentified people with kind words before drugging and then torturing them to death.

----

* ManipulativeBitch
* RichBitch
* StarterVillain

* VillainOfTheWeek: The very first one to appear, in fact.
* VillainousBreakdown: Once Tatsumi learns of the whole truth of her household's sheer sadism towards the people she lured to it, she snaps and rants about her views of others as nothing but worthless cattle, her belief in her right to toy with whatever she wants, and her jealousy toward's Sayo's hair motivating her to torture-murder her, all while putting on a NightmareFace and seemingly sounding like a VoiceOfTheLegion.

* KickTheDog: If it wasn't enough he framed an innocent man for a crime he didn't commit he also planned on forcing the man's wife to watch her entire family get executed one by one.
* NoKillLikeOverkill: Tatsumi cuts off [[spoiler:[[AnArmAndALeg both his arms]] and then slashes him into a bloody corpse.]]
* RedBaron: The Demon.

!! Liver
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/305a767c9821ad69875c9f9204254444.png]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/JojiNakata

The leader of the Three Beasts, the strongest military group in the Empire before their destruction and the creation of the Jaegers. Liver was formerly a righteous general in the empire and Bulat's mentor and friend. Refusing to take bribes, he was imprisoned until Esdeath, recognizing his strength, offered him a place under her command. As a result, Liver has since idolized Esdeath is unfailingly loyal to her. Liver led the Three Beasts in framing Night Raid in a series of political murders to lure them out, eventually confronting Bulat and Tatsumi aboard a cruise ship.

----

* AntiVillain: Compared to his two teammates. He is an enemy only because of his UndyingLoyalty to Esdeath for saving his life.
* {{Badass}}: Being a former general qualifies but fighting an Incursio clad Bulat on equal grounds is impressive.
* BadassMustache: It's quite spiffy.
* BloodyMurder: He can weaponize his own blood into a projectile.
* CordonBleughChef: While he loves to cook, it's noted by Daidara that Liver is an extremely terrible chef. His cooking is known to be as [[UpToEleven lethal as an average Teigu]] and even incapacitated [[WorldsStrongestMan General Esdeath]] for several minutes.
* CrazyPrepared: Knowing that Bulat is more powerful than him, he staged their battle in a ship in the open ocean, where his Teigu's power is maximised and Bulat cannot dodge his attacks for fear of allowing the ship to be destroyed. When this fails, he injects himself with a strengthening serum to engage Bulat in close combat, where he [[ThanatosGambit allows himself to be slashed]] so that he can utilise his blood magic to fatally wound Bulat with a lethal toxin in the aforementioned serum. [[spoiler: He succeeds.]]
* FallenHero: He was Bulat's former superior in the Empire's army but after a downfall orchestrated by the Prime Minister and being saved by Esdeath, he now serves directly under her as part of the [[QuirkyMiniBossSquad The Three Beasts]].
* HeroKiller: The Three Beasts were the most powerful soldiers under Esdeath until the formation of the Jaegers. They were responsible for wiping out the entire outskirts division of the Night Raid save for Chelsea, killing the ex-Prime Minister and his knights. River himself fatally wounded [[spoiler: Bulat]] before dying himself.
* MakingASplash: His Teigu, Black Marlin, allows him to control water in the vicinity. He notes that, unlike Esdeath's Teigu, [[ElementalBaggage he can't create the water.]]
* PeacefulInDeath: Dies contently, having succeeded in slaying [[spoiler: Bulat]] and served Esdeath to the best of his ability.
* RingOfPower: His Imperial Arm, the Black Marlin, which was forged from the remains of an aquatic monster, and gives the wielder control over water.
* ShapingYourAttacks: Such as shaping them into spears, dragons, or a '''giant snake'''.
* TakingYouWithMe: After a long battle he is eventually beaten by [[spoiler:Bulat]], but not before fatally poisoning him with Black Marlin.
* TeamDad: To the 3 Beasts, just like Bulat is to Night Raid.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Esdeath, although it appears to reach the point of romantic affection.
* WeCanRuleTogether: Tries this on Bulat. It fails, obviously.

!! Nyau
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/d81982c2844ffc0034d562fe0c7ce186.png]]

--> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/HitomiNabatame

A member of the Three Beasts under Esdeath's command. He wields an Imperial Arm in the form of a flute that allows him to manipulate anyone who hears his music in a variety of ways.
----

* {{Bishounen}}: Being young, he has a slender physique, large eyes, and postures in ways a girl might.
* CombatCommentator: He mentally explains all of Liver's abilities during his fight with Bulat.
* CreepySouvenir: Cuts off and [[CollectorOfTheStrange collects people's faces]], while they're still alive.
* EnfanteTerrible: He's appears to be very young and yet revels in torturing and killing.
* HairDecorations: He sports a small horn-like hairband. To compliment it, he also has a black devil tail.
* HorrifyingTheHorror: Nyau's "hobby" unnerves even [[BloodKnight Daidara]].
* InstrumentOfMurder: Can use Scream as a melee weapon.
* MusicalAssassin: Uses a flute Teigu called Scream to affect listeners depending on what he plays.
* PunchedAcrossTheRoom: How he is killed by a newly Incursio clad Tatsumi.
* SuperSpeed: His agility is above average, being able to match Tatsumi's, though he isn't as fast as Akame.
* TemporaryBulkChange: Secret Skill: Call of the Fierce God.

!! Daidara
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/14884e314ec1ada8ac44381242b90fc4.jpg]]

-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AnriKatsu

A member of the Three Beasts commanded by Esdeath. He is a large, imposing man with an interest in killing so as to gain more "experience."
----

* BloodKnight: Loves to fight so that he can gain [[ExperiencePoints "experience"]], so the stronger the better.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Considers Nyau's habit of skinning faces to be disgusting.
* HairDecorations: Strangely, he wears a headband with horn-like designs.
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: Bulat kills him by splitting him vertically down the middle.
* HotBlooded: He's loud, theatric, and eager to kill.
* MonochromaticEyes: His eyes lack pupils, giving him a strange and inhumane physical feature.
* SlasherSmile: Sports one constantly while in combat.
* SuperStrength: It's a requirement to wield Belvaac. He can cut through a whole crowd of [[{{Mook}} mooks]] in one swing.
* TheWorfEffect: He puts Tatsumi on the ropes, and is immediately killed by Bulat as a testament of his full power.

!! Zank the Beheader
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akame-ga-kill-zank-the-beheader_7902.jpg]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Satoshi Tsuruoka

A former prison executioner. Seemed to be normal once, though due to the sheer amount of executions he was required to do under Prime Minister Honest, he began to develop a bloodlust and soon started to kill random people at night, fleeing to a new area once a punitive squad was assembled to deal with him.

----
* AxCrazy: [[FreudianExcuse Considering what the Prime Minister forced to put him through]], who wouldn't be?
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: Two katars to be precise.
* BloodKnight: Though he prefers unarmed civilians incapable of putting up much resistance, he also loves to fight when he sees an opponent who can defend themselves.
* ExplainingYourPowerToTheEnemy: He arrogantly explains his Teigu's powers in great detail to Tatsumi as they try to kill each other.
* FangsAreEvil: To highlight his vicious personality, his grin contains pronounced incisors.
* HeadphonesEqualIsolation: PlayedWith. He doesn't wear headphones to isolate himself from people or reality, he wears them in an attempt isolate himself from the [[HearingVoices voices he constantly hears within his head]]. [[spoiler:When his headphones break open after he's defeated by Akame he realizes the voices have stopped and [[DeathSeeker thanks Akame while he dies]].]]
* HearingVoices: See TheMentallyDisturbed below.
* HoneyTrap: He uses this against Tatsumi to lure him out into an area where he could slowly torture and kill him. Specifically his illusion power allows him to look like the person his target cared most about, and in Tatsumi's case, Sayo. It doesn't quite work the way he expected against Akame though.
* HopeSpot: He likes to torture people before killing them. One method he employs is to tell them he simply wants to talk with them, which seems reasonable enough. However, he usually decapitates them, then talks to the person's head.
* TheMentallyDisturbed: Showed symptoms of Schizophrenia, hearing dark voices that drove him further and further into insanity.
* MotorMouth: Zank does ''not'' stop talking. Even when in the midst of combat he never takes a minute to cease conversation, even between attacks. He intentionally [[InvokedTrope invokes]] this because in his mind, [[HearingVoices the voices in his head]] [[JustifiedTrope quiet down whenever he speaks]].
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: He earned his nickname by killing lots of prisoners. And when that wasn't enough, he started to kill random people as well.
* OhCrap: When Akame nearly kills him while under the effects of his [[MasterOfIllusion Illusion Sight]], which showed her the [[CainAndAbel person she loves the most]].
* PerpetualSmiler: Always seen with a [[SlasherSmile giant grin]] ''constantly''.
* PowerPerversionPotential: Zank's "Spectator" Teigu had multiple abilities related to sight, but there was one he never used. [[spoiler: When Tatsumi used Spectator, that hidden ability was the ability to see through people's clothes.]]
* RequiredSecondaryPowers: Had Zank's body been in top physical condition, he would have been able to keep up with the CombatClairvoyance that Spectator granted and would have been a ''much'' larger threat.
* SanitySlippage: After delivering numerous executions of various innocent people who were sentenced to death by the Prime Minister, Zank eventually went mad from the immense guilt brought on by the many innocent pleas of his victims.
* SerialKiller: Of the Hedonistic kind, coupled with his threat to the populace and possession of a powerful Teigu, makes him a target for assassination by the Night Raid.
* SlasherSmile: He sports a rather terrifying one at all times.
* SuperpowerLottery: His Teigu, Spectator, is among the most versatile Teigu in the story. It grants Zank ''five'' abilities that when properly used in conjuction allows him to fight on par with ''Akame''. In the hands of a much more experienced combatant, it would have been a complete StoryBreakerPower.
* VillainousBreakdown: When he realizes that Akame [[NoSell isn't affected]] by his [[MasterOfIllusion Illusion Sight]] and proceeds to crack his katars, he falls into a mad craze and tries to finish her off before his weapon breaks, all while [[SmugSuper thinking he has still has the upper hand]] due to his [[CombatClairvoyance Spectator]].
* WakeUpCallBoss: Though just a VillainOfTheWeek, he seriously wounds Tatsumi in their fight. And even Akame isn't able to finish him off right away.

!!!Teigu: Spectator
----

* CombatClairvoyance: Grants its user the ability to see the smallest muscle movements of their opponents, allowing them to successfully predict what their next move is.
* ComboPlatterPowers: Spectator has been noted to grant its user a number of mental abilities.
* MasterOfIllusion: Has the ability to cast illusions of one's loved ones to catch them off guard.
* SuperSenses: Grants the user impeccable long range vision.
* {{Telepathy}}: Grants the user the ability to read their opponents mind.
* XRayVision: It can see through clothes.

!!4 Rakshasa Demons

The Prime Minister's personal executioners, the Rakshasa Demons are humans that undergo intense training to modify their bodies. Despite not wielding Teigus, they have defeated a total of five Teigu users. The 4 Rakshasa Demons are sent to guard Path of Peace leader Bolic when the Night Raid threaten to assasinate him. They assist the Jaegers in engaging the Night Raid.

----

* BadassAdorable: Mez, as Lubbock notes.
* BadassNormal: Despite not having a Teigu, they are capable of fighting on par with Teigu users thanks to their physical abilities. That being said, they are able to use their body in manners that hardly classify as 'normal'.
** Ibara overwhelmed Akame until he made the mistake of grabbing Murasame, while Suzuka overwhelmed an Incursio-clad Tatsumi in combat. Sten and Mez held the advantage over Lubbock for the majority of their battle.
* BareFistedMonk: All 4 members use only their bare hands in combat.
* BarehandedBladeBlock: Ibara catches Murasame's blade with his bare hands (and without a scratch, mind you).
** Sten catches an axe created Lubbock's Cross Thread barehanded.
* BloodKnight: All 4 crave combat and a worthy opponent.
* CombatSadomasochist: Suzuka occasionally lets herself be struck in combat so she can savour the pain.
* {{Contortionist}}: They are capable of twisting their bodies to ridiculous extents thanks to their [[TrainingFromHell training]].
* DeathByAdaptation: Because Wild Hunt doesn't exist in the anime, Suzuka is killed much earlier - in her fight with Tatsumi, the building starts to fall apart, and as she runs away, a boulder crushes her head. In the manga, she survives getting crushed by it, but given the omission of her being tortured for her failure, and the aforementioned removal of Wild Hunt, it's clear she's done for.
* DoesNotLikeShoes: Instead, they wear only footwraps.
* ExtendableArms: Ibara and Mez have displayed this.
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: Akame slices Ibara into half when he charges at her in a blind rage.
* MadeOfIron: Sten is impaled by Lubbock with scarcely any reaction, while Ibara survives getting his neck snapped. Suzuka survives getting a building dropped onto her.
* NeckSnap: Akame delivers this to Ibara, but that does not kill him.
* OhCrap: Ibara gets one when he realises that Murasame is cursed and that him grabbing it was in Akame's plan all along.
* SoleSurvivor: In the aftermath of the Bolic Arc, the only survivor of the group is Suzuka.
* SpeedBlitz: Ibara delivers one to Seryu when she doubts their combat capabilities.
* SuperSenses: They are perhaps the most proficient at this in the series, able to detect enemies in a crowd in an instant.
* SuperSpeed: Ibara is capable of this, and is fast enough to overwhelm ''Akame''.
* TooKinkyToTorture: Suzuka gets aroused when the Prime Minister tortures her for failing to protect Bolic.
* TrainingFromHell: All 4 underwent intense training in the harshest environments to achieve practically superhuman capabilities.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Suzuka underestimates Tatsumi because of his inexperience and gets a building on her head for her troubles.
* WorthyOpponent: Ibara considers Akame this.

----

* ClingyJealousGirl: In a FlashBack during episode 3 when Ieyasu and Tatsumi joke about finding women in the capital, she punches Ieyasu in the face. He wonders why she only punched him.
* ColdBloodedTorture: She's one of the many victims in a wealthy household's scheme of capturing and torturing newcomers from the countryside for their sadistic glee. She was tortured much more roughly than Ieyasu, [[DisproportionateRetribution simply because the one of the nobles hated how nice her hair was.]]
* DefiantToTheEnd: Ieyasu notes that despite the horrific torture inflicted upon her by the sadist nobles, she never once submitted to them.
* DetachedSleeves: The sleeves of her haori are cut to expose her shoulders.
* HairDecorations: The flower decoration in her hair.
* PosthumousCharacter: She is already dead by the time Tatsumi finds her in the first episode. But she is seen in a couple of FlashBack scenes when Tatsumi reminisces about them in later episodes.
* RapunzelHair: Her hair is very long and luxurious.
* ShipTease: With Ieyasu.
* StuffedIntoTheFridge: Her battered body is found by Tatsumi, enraging him into killing the noble girl responsible.
* ThreeAmigos: She, Tatsumi and Ieyasu.
* {{Tsundere}}: Type A. When Ieyasu and Tatsumi chat about how they're [[HandsomeLech eager to see what the women in the Capital are like]], [[ClingyJealousGirl Sayo]] promptly [[UnprovokedPervertPayback slugs him]] and he wonders in pain why [[ObliviousToLove she didn't also hit Tatsumi]].

!!Ieyasu
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/367px-ieyasu_anime_5541.png]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Kouji Takahashi

A boy who left the village at the same time as Tatsumi and Sayo. Due to [[NoSenseOfDirection getting lost]], he and Sayo get separated from Tatsumi on their way to the capital. Once Tatsumi finds them again, he finds his friend inside a cage, severely beaten and suffering from a fatal illness. Ieyasu succumbs to his illness shortly after their reunification.

----

* BloodFromTheMouth: He coughs up blood, confirming that he has been fatally poisoned.
* BromanticFoil: He was one to Tatsumi, being his lighthearted, goofball of a friend.
* ColdBloodedTorture: Like Tatsumi, he and Sayo both accepted the offer from nobles for some hospitality. Unfortunately, they drugged their drinks and subjected them to hideously sadistic torture. Sayo dies first from her wounds and after Tatsumi finds him he dies shortly after.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: He [[GoOutWithASmile smiles]] as he dies, wanting to go bravely like Sayo did.
* GoodIsDumb: He's the most cheerful of his friends about venturing to the empire and becoming famous. His friends note that his carelessness and lack of common sense will instead get him killed.
* HeroicWillpower: The ''only'' reason why he was still alive when Tatsumi found him while dying of the Lubora disease.
* IllBoy: The nobles that tortured him infected him with the Lubora disease, an incurable virus that slowly kills its victim.
* MartialArtsHeadband: He wears it as part of his standard attire.
* NoSenseOfDirection: Which is one reason he and Sayo got separated from Tatsumi when the three of them went to the capital together. This unfortunately causes a lot of problems for Tatsumi later on when he finds them in the first episode.
* PosthumousCharacter: He dies shortly after reuniting with Tatsumi in the first episode. But like with Sayo, he is seen in a couple of FlashBack scenes when Tatsumi reminisces about them.
* ShipTease: With Sayo.
* ThreeAmigos: He formed a trio with Tatsumi and Sayo.
