Awesome / Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold

Go To

  • Episode 1 shows what happens when you lock an exhausted and confused Gold Saint in a normal cell with a chain at the foot to keep him in: the only reason it even slows Aiolia down is that he's puzzled that someone thought they could keep him prisoner with a mere chain.

  • Episode 2:

  • Episode 3:
    • They say that if two Gold Saints were to fight each other their battle would go on for a thousand days without winners. When Milo and Camus fight, they demonstrate. Or would have had, had others not interfered...
    • Milo and Camus are fighting with God Warriors Sigmund and Surt helping the latter. Milo is engulfed in flames, when suddenly Gemini Saga arrives Out of the Inferno, looming over the Scorpio Saint.

  • Episode 4:

  • Episode 5:
    • Aiolia fighting an illusion of Shura because of his deep down grudge against him. He has trouble until the real Shura comes in.
    • Milo gets one via Heroic Sacrifice being not only able to trigger his God Cloth after the first try but also using his Cosmo to power up the god killing dagger all by himself even at the expense of letting Yggdrasil to take him like Aphrodite.

  • Episode 6:

  • Episode 7:
    • Aldebaran against Herakles, round two. Aldebaran gives a silent No-Sell to pretty much everything Herakles can throw against him, and this is simply awesome in comparison to the usual Worf Effect treatment he gets.
      • And then, noticing Herakles has Mind-Control Eyes, Aldebaran gives him the mother of all Bright Slap along with a Get A Hold Of Yourself Man speech against throwing away your soul for power.
      • The fact Aldebaran does NOT actually need his God Cloth to defeat him, yet he still activates it if only by mercy and to show him just how outclassed he was.
    • What does Shura do when he has to face Camus in the battle to destroy one of the statues keeping Yggdrasil safe? Destroy the statue under Camus' nose, of course. This is when Surtr loses his smugness-and Camus acts as if he should have seen it coming because it's completely normal of Shura. Had the Hall not had two statues'', Shura would have completed his part of the mission then and there.
    • Camus finally getting his act together and realizing that his former friend Surtr won't Heel–Face Turn and return to the good man he used to be, and so in order to save his soul, goes all out against him.

  • Episode 8:
    • Balder of Hraesvelgr faces Shaka. Balder is initially completely unwounded by Shaka's attacks, bragging about being a God, and possessing an immortal body along with Instant Runes powers.
      • Shaka is initially troubled by the above revelation, but quickly realizes that Balder is being played with by another God than Odin. Having figured out what was going on, he reveals that Balder was under his influence this whole time, like a monkey in the palm of Buddha. He then goes to declare all out war on the entity controlling Balder and using Andreas as a representative, saying that all of the Gold Saints will come to pay him a visit very soon.
      • Since the moment the statue of Buddha and the Mandala appeared, this was expected, but Shaka unlocks his God Cloth, and uses his most powerful technique, Tenbu Hourin to break Balder's immortality.
      • Since his Immortality has been broken, he is now suffering the backlash of all the wounds he should have suffered over the years. Shaka then earns another crowner when he uses the sensory deprivation effect of Tenbu Hourin to actually Mercy Kill Balder, giving him at least a peaceful death. Probably a Continuity Nod and a showcase of Shaka's Character Development, since in canon against Shun, he stated he did not possess emotions such as compassion.
    • During the battle between Mu and Fafner, the God Warrior was bragging about the new Odin Sapphires he created from the people he kidnapped through Asgard when a furious Deathmask walks in and literally steals the battle from Mu:
      • As soon as he enters, Deathmask asks Mu's opponent if he's the bastard named Fafner. Fafner starts bragging he'll take them both-and gets a Sekishiki Meikaiha, moving the battle to the Yomotsu where Mu can't interfere.
      • Turns out that the move backfired, as Fafner can take power from the souls nearby, and he has trapped Helena's brothers into crystals to experiment on them and they'd die if he died. Then, thanks to the cheers of the children, Deathmask finds the Heroic Resolve he needs to turn the battle and Take a Third Option about Fafner: thanks to his brand new technique, Deathmask first frees the souls that were powering Fafner up (also shattering his God Robe and Odin Sapphire in the process, and then, with the actual effect of his technique (yes, everything else was a collateral. Planned, but collateral), leaves him chained forever in Yomotsu Hirasaka between life and death, with the souls of the dead forever stomping over him as they go to the mouth of Hades for good measure.

  • Episode 9:
    • Saga against Sigmund of Granyl.
      • Saga initially inflicts a Curb-Stomp Battle on Sigmund, solidly cementing his credentials as the strongest Saint. He trounces Sigmund so badly that the chess piece Andreas uses to represent Sigmund breaks, and the fragment scratches his cheek. That's right, Saga is so awesome he could basically flip the Big Bad simply by beating one of his henchmen.
      • Then Sigfried gets a crowner from beyond the grave by sending his God Robe to shield his brother's body from Saga's Galaxian Explosion, and silently persuading him to stop the fight. This would have worked, if not for Andreas' Villain Override.
      • Saga acknowledging his opponent's worth, before unlocking his God Cloth, and unleashing his Galaxian Explosion with enough control that he took Sigmund out, destroying his armor, WITHOUT killing him, AND bringing him back to sanity!
    • Frodi resisting Andreas' Mind Control so he can have an honorable fight against Aiolia
      • And then resisting his Villain Override that was about to make him kill Lyfia against his will. The real crowner is that he could bring out enough Heroic Willpower to break his red Odin Sapphire before falling completely.

  • Episode 10:
    • Frodi and Utgardar's fight.
    • Aiolia goes all out God Gold Cloth on Andreas as soon as he is in front of him. It doesn't work but still.
    • Mu and Dohko pull a Big Damn Heroes to save an exhausted Aiolia. Then Saga joins too.
    • Aiolos gets one, despite not being present, when it's revelead that that arrow he shot at Andreas' eye blocks his powers and it's still inside his eye. Too bad Loki says "naaaah" and takes it out while revealing himself.
    • Shaka uses his God Cloth to buy time for Saga, Mu and Dohko to charge an Athena Exclamation, in an Heroic Sacrifice.
    • An Athena's Exclamation with God Gold Cloths.

  • Episode 11:

  • Episode 12:
    • Realizing he may lose, Loki decides to have all the Einerjahrs he directly or indirectly summoned die, knowing that the Gold Saints were among them. Cue horror when he realizes it had been Odin to bring back the Gold Saints through Lyfia.
    • The No-Holds-Barred Beatdown Aiolia unleashes on Loki while pinballing around using the Odin Robe's flying sword as a springboard. Had his opponent fallen literally anywhere but on Gungnir's tip after the final attack, Aiolia would have killed him then and there.
    • Lyfia resurrecting the dead Gold Cloths.
    • Aiolia and Aiolos using the fact Gungnir had been resurrected with the Cosmo of the Gold Saints and the Gold Cloths to deviate Gungnir's blasts.
    • Think Aphrodite being Worfed so early on in the series without a decent fight to his name a pity? Turns out Andreas having Yggdrasil absorb him first was his biggest mistake in the entire series. When Andreas gets his hands on Gungnir and destroys the Odin Robe, the tide's turned when the fallen Gold Saints return, all because Aphrodite was immune to plant toxins -even Yggdrasil's- and was able to develop countermeasures so the absorbed and "killed" Gold Saints were only kept in a deathlike state. Aphrodite even points out Loki's mistake to his face.

  • Episode 13:
    • When Loki shows he still has the upper hand, Saori, of all people, turns definitely the tide by sending the Gold Saints enough of her blood to complete the Gold Cloths' transformation into God Cloths. Poor Loki starts getting beaten up.
    • The Gold Saints delivering THE most satisfying and awe-inspiring "And This Is for... collective-speech" ever made as they proceed to beat the living hell out of Loki while wearing the awakened God Clothes.
Aphrodite: For the beautiful smiles of Earth's people!
Milo: For the adamant and unyielding justice!
Aldebaran: For the compassion to protect our dear people!
Deathmask: For the courage to defend those we love!
Camus: For the friendship that binds our will!
Shura: For the determination to face our mistakes!
Dohko: For the bravery that comes from within!
Mu: For the eyes that determine truth!
Shaka: For the pure and innocent hearts!
Saga: For the selfless undiscriminating love!
Aioros: This is our vow! Our legacy to the next generations!
    • A collective one for mankind (and planet Earth itself) whose prayers give Aiolia enough power to win-and shatter Gungnir.

  • After reading all the above, there's something to keep in mind: the Gold Saints did most of the above while weakened by having their Cosmo drained by Yggdrasil. Had they not been weakened, it would have been a very quick Curb-Stomp Battle.
